I have tryed stuff like ">=Now()" or ">Now() and =Now()" but nothing works please help
also can anybody help with my other problem about No changes to certain field in a table or form

THANKS

A: Solved: Access Date Today or after today

If this is the same field as the first post then you will be stuck with the default value of Now() or Date().
If it is a different field then in the validation property use >=Date().
Date() is used when you do not need to store the "Time" as well as the date, Now() stores the Date and the Time.

When items are loaned out we want them returned in 30 working days (approximately 6 weeks I'm not going to bother trying to calculate holidays) but to only come back on a week day Monday through Friday.

Field Name ReturnDate_Fld this needs to be calculated as 30 working days from the current date

or should I not worry about the extra effort and use the approximate by adding 42 to the BorrowDate_Fld (plus 42 days = 6 weeks)

Should I worry about this in a form or only set it as field in the report/query?

Hey guys,
I have a question about coding and setting an excel file to send emails. I am using an excel file to track maintenance work orders and I would like to get an email each day for each work order that is requested to be finished on that days date. I have attached the excel file I am using, and the column that is important is C, "Date Needed" - If that date is today's date, the cell turns red and I would also like to get email notification about it. A separate email for each cell that matches today's date.

Also, if possible, I would like for it to look at all the sheets, not just the current month's sheet. For example, if a work order was filed in July but wasn't needed until September, I would still like to get the email reminding me that it needs to be finished on xx date in September.

I have attached the excel file I want to use.

I have searched all over this forum and others and have found many posts similar to this, but I am not a great manipulator of code, so I cannot get any of the other solutions to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I need to return a number associated with a date based on today's date. For example: A1:A24 are numbers 1 to 24 and B1:B24 contain the 15th and 30th for each month of the year; 15-Jan, 30-Jan, 15-Feb, 28-Feb, ... 30-Dec.Cell C1 needs to return the number from A1:A24 based upon today's date compared to the date in B1:B24.For example today is 08/21/15, what number should be returned in Cell C1. It should be 15 as 08/21 is less than 30-Aug.message edited by jmichels

A:Return a number based on today's date compared another date.

Try this formula, see how it work for you:=INDEX(A1:B24,MATCH(TODAY(),B1:B24,1),1)This will work for most dates, but errors out if the Date is 01/14/15 or less.MIKEhttp://www.skeptic.com/message edited by mmcconaghy

Whenever I boot my PC, the date is always a year from the current date. I go into the date and time settings and reset it, but the next time I start the machine a year has been added. The same thing occurs if the PC is on past midnight. At 11:59:59 the date will be 1-29-2001, but then it becomes 1-30-2002.

This is a 3-month old Gateway P933. Gateway says this is 'impossible' and that some software must be setting the date incorrectly. I've run 2 virus checkers (nothing found) and don't have any unusual programs running automatically. I KNOW that this IS possible because it's happening. What are some possible causes.

Thanks

There is a file shared by my group where we track work orders scheduled by date. Column 1 contains a list of dates, in order, like so
5/30/06
5/31/06
6/01/06
etc.
Sometimes, when you open the file, someone else has scrolled up or down the page, so if you want to view today's date, you have to scroll up or down to find it. What I would like to do is create a macro that takes you to the cell containing today's date. I tried creating a macro that did the following:
1- Go to a cell containing a formula =TODAY()
2- Copy the value of that cell (this will be today's date)
3- Open the Edit --> Find window
4- Paste in the value I just copied
5- Click find

This worked great on the day that I created it, but today, it still goes to yesterday's date. When I look at the macro, what it's doing is always searching for the value that "TODAY" had on the date I created the macro. It's not smart enough to actually paste in the value I copied, but instead sees it as FIND: WHAT="5/30/2006"

Is there a way to use the Find or CTRL-G, or any other formula to take me to the cell containing today's date? It seems like this should be a simple thing, but I just can't figure out a way to make it work.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

A:Excel: Go to cell containing today's date

If you have a cell on the worksheet with =Today() in it, that cell will always show the current date. You look up that in your macro and use that to find your current date in the data.

Hi,

Is anyone else having a problem accessing some sites today. I am. Here are some of the sites I can't access...

http://wwwfriendsinbusiness.com/board1
http://www.imstarter.com
http://awsd.com/
http://www.910knew.com/pages/listenlive.html

What happens is (on the first 3) is that the browser tries and tries. I guess it eventually times out but I don't wait around that long.

With the last link, the background loads in but the rest doesn't. Again, it keeps trying but nothing.

I had trouble with http://www.paypal.com loading in, too. The top of the page was loading in but nothing else so I could not log in. Now it is working for me, though.

So is anyone else having this problem? Not sure if it is my ISP, my computer, of it is something with the Internet today.

It has only happened today and has been this way all day for me, with the exception of paypal.

And yes, I have tried both IE and FireFox.

I cannot even update my Spybot and my TrendMcro PC-Cillin becasue I cannot connect to their servers.

Good Day, I'm new here and I've got a strange sort of problem. Recently my computer decided that system restore would come up stating that it couldn't restore my computer to that day's date. It also states that this is the result of an improper shutdown which was done during the system restore. The only thing is I hadn't done a system restore during that time. I tried going back before the date by two days and although it said that the restore was done successfully it still comes up now it comes up with the same message and the day's date that the computer has been started up. Has anyone ever seen this and do you have any ideas on how to correct it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
WAR1

A:System Restore keeps saying it can't be restored to today's date

I would think it was something that is corrupted in the system restore database or however is stores the information.

Only thing i could think of, would be to turn off the system restore for a day or two, then try turning it back on (might forget the old restores).

A:How do I get today's date in a cell, only with text in anoth

This is a possible way, however there are some flaws with this, if you enter some text in A1 today, B1 will display todays date, however, when you open the workbook tomorrow it will change to tomorrows date. Not sure how to overcome this really, wait for some of the Excel Gurus they'll more than likely have a much better way than me :)Put this in B1 and then type something in A1=IF(A1="","",TODAY())

Is it possible to put today's date into the Formula field in the design view of a table?

There is a string that includes that field as its prefix. Right now it's just a static value. The rest of the string includes just an incrementing value.

For example... the field contains A and the count is 000000. Thus the result is A-000000. The result is stored into one of my tables. I would like to be able to use dates so that it would be easier read.

I would like it to say... 103103-000000 ... 103103-000001 (later today)... 110103-000002 (if tomorrow)...

I have an excel spreadsheet with lots of dates on it. One time, I saw someone create an arrow or bar that automatically went to today's date on the spreadsheet, so a person would not have to scroll down through past dates to get to today's date. I tried to " create a new rule" in conditional formatting so that today's date was highlighted yellow. The highlighting feature works, but when I open the spreadsheet I am not taken automatically to today's date. Is that some other feature? Can it be done on the excel in google drive?

Hi,

I'm not sure about the "Conditional formating". But, You can have a code in the "Thisworkbook module" that will go to today's date.

Well, the problem has nothing to do with Windows 7, but I so got used to this Forum being the main resource of computer wisdom, so here it goes:

I have an old Sony laptop (PCG-VX89P is the model number). It worked very well for a long time (real 8 hours battery time) but eventually it was getting slower and slower, until at some point it simply refused to boot.

I thought the problem was with the hard drive, so I used the Spin-Rite to "repair" the drive, reinstalled Windows (yes, it's XP) and ... it still won't boot. it gets to the welcome screen, then I click on the user icon, it shows Desktop for a while, then the BSOD and it restarts so quick, I can't say what's written on the blue screen at all.

I thought the thing was done for. But, busy as I am, it was gathering dust for some time, until recently I decided to sell it for parts as an alternative to throwing it away. But having forgotten what the real problem was, I decided to boot it up and erase the hard drive again.

Of course the laptop's battery was drained completely, I had to plug it in and the BIOS screen appeared asking me to set the clock. I ignored it, since I did not care to use it, and miraculously everything worked - the machine booted up nicely, worked fine. OK, I thought, I'll change the time to normal, did it in Windows, and then rebooted - and it won't boot!

Next day I recall that this time change was the only thing I did, so I got into BIOS and changed the year to 1992 - the laptop boots... Read more

NO! Be with me here, THE CURRENT DIRECTORY IS NEVER INCLUDED IN THE PATH VARIABLE BY DEFAULT. What you are trying to do here is launching /usr/sbin/sshd start, and this is why you get that "Extra argument start" - which is ignored by sshd.

After waiting through an adwall ("20 seconds until your article appears") I did not get my article, but the website looked a little...dodgy.

can anyone confirm that www.sci-tech-today.com and its parent, www.newsfactor.com are OK and not suspicious at all? Someone told me that they were browsing on the computer today and a message from Google came up that said, an update to Adobe Flash Player is available, but they did not click on it or anything. I have cleared out my history, temp, and cache files in IE 8, rebooted and can not get to www.adobe.com to download the latest version of Adobe Flash Player, I have not updated Adobe Player in months and I do know that they are affiliated with Google.com. I went to Adobe's site, learning a long time ago NEVER to click on any pop up windows while browsing, and every time I go to www.adobe.com the page does not finish loading and the browser locks up, Is there something from an external server preventing the loading of the page?

Jack

PS. I do not recall an option to close the window, but I did click on Don't Install. (Did not give me any other prompts) The only others were Install or Ask Later. The Window was the same thing that pops up in your System Tray when an update is available.

There is also no problem with my existing Flash Player (Version 10.+) As of now, I am just going to assume a problem with the site.

Also, the site works fine in Firefox but not in IE 8. The problem seems to be some Flash Content that is loading on the page in Firefox with Adobe promoting a new version of software. The promotion ad is not coming up in IE 8, crashing the site. At least I know that I was doing nothing wrong!

A:Solved: Is There A Problem With Adobe.com Today?

This is a BIG issue all over the Net and it affects mostly IE 8 users and Adobe.com and instances of displaying Flash content. From what I have gathered:

****Note clean installs of Windows XP and new computers with Windows Vista or Windows 7 have this same problem.****** The conflict is between IE 8 and Flash Webpages being slow or not working at all in the case of www.adobe.com when visited with IE 8 and the applied software update below:

There was an update pushed to Adobe Flash Player around November 14th through the System Tray Manager indicator. Apparently Adobe uses something new in place of Active X controls for dealing with Flash Content and it was in this update. What is it now called?

Many users are having problems with some Flash web pages after this update and a conflict with Flash and Windows Update.

My Flash problems have only been a slow and sluggish response at Cnet.com and crashing at Adobe.com.

Some have reported workarounds with changing their screen resolution settings to make www.adobe.com work again, OR use Firefox to visit the sites that have this vulnerability, OR a rollback to IE 7, which is not affected by this Flash problem.

Updates on this topic? What is needed here?

1.) An update to Flash Player to patch this issue?

2.) A Windows Update to patch this issue?

3.) A redesign of Adobe's webpage to fix this vulnerability?

4.) With Cnet being slow with regards to 1-3, we may need an "All of The Above."

One last batch scripting question for today... i have a slight problem and i'm not sure of how to cure it...

I'm using the ( SET /P myvar= ) command inside on of my batch scripts..

and the command works exactly how i want it to, but there is a small loophole that i'm not sure how to fix, or if its even possible...

the command checks itself against a group of IF statements to direct the user around the script... as well as an error message if you input an incorrect selection....

like i said all the commands work correctly, but if you insert a SPACE instead of a character it will completely shut down the script, i previously assumed that it would go to the error message since it doesn't match any of the IF statements...

I'm unclear why it does this, and i'm looking for a way to prevent this...

When shutting down, I got the typical update message warning me not to turn off my machine until the update was installed. It shut down after the update was installed, and seems to be running normally.

Does anyone know what this is about?

A:Solved: I got an automatic XP update today! What's going on?

Nothing to be alarmed about. It was the monthly MSRT download:

"Microsoft releases a new version of the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool every month. After you download the tool, the tool runs one time to check your computer for infection by specific prevalent malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom)"

...and I'm wondering if anyone's had any success hooking it up to their own home networking gear? So far -- and I've been trying/googling for a couple hours now -- I haven't been able to do it.

I have a D-Link DI-514 wireless router, some generic yet perfectly functional wireless card, and Comcast shipped me an Arris Touchstone Telephony Modem (TM402P). My mom got the package that's phone service, internet service, and cable TV all on one bill or whatever.

I can connect perfectly when I have the modem straight to the PC, and it's working equally perfectly right now, connected through the router. But neither mine nor my brother's wireless cards can receive the signal from the router -- not just for the internet, for ANY network functions (files, printers, etc.). It's weird.

It's not the NIC: it still detects both of my neighbors' wireless networks (can't connect obviously, but they've always been there). It's not the wrong SSID or channel or WEP or anything like that -- it simply doesn't detect the signal the DI-514's sending.

I set the hardware up the same way I'd been using it with DSL for years, and no signal. I configured the router well enough to [obviously] connect to comcast on this PC. I tried spoofing my router's MAC address to match the MAC address of this PC's NIC. Didn't do anything.

I must've power cycled about two dozen times this evening. A few times, the WLA... Read more

Today I saved and opened a bmp file that really wasn't one, it was the W97M.Gogaru.A Trojan Horse. (I just tried to paste in the Symantec link, but it looks wrong and I don't want anyone to be afraid to click on anything here!)

Mine was from a Japanese clipart site. My own stupid fault, I know. I have changed the View to show all file extensions, now that the horse is out of the barn. I don't think it's gone, I'm still finding things that upset me (see below) and I badly need a shoulder!

Norton quarantined it right away but couldn't repair the infected file: Windows\~s.exe~. I got the Symantec info, deleted the bmp (actually an RTF macro-thing) that caused it, did a Find for files created about the time it happened. I found two things: an html file (W97M.gogaru.a[1].html) and an RTF file (search[2].rtf). Their "origins" were temporary internet files - their "origins" came from places with those eight numbers/letters like temporary internet files have. I deleted both of those. Norton hadn't done anything to them, though, so I don't know if they were just the shells of the trojan or what.

I did a NAV scan (updates are current), did a Cleaner scan (also current), a TDS-3 scan (current), and finally the Symantec online scan. Everything is okay, according to these many sources. I have two trojan scanners and end up with one anyway. I didn't have TCActive or TCMonitor activated, though (I do now).

Anyway, the qu... Read more

Hello,
This is my first post and it is to do with a problem (not a bright start). I have this Sony Vaio VGN-NR21M/S and have vista installed on it. Today I was downloading few programms (Adobe Nitro, Microsoft Onepoint, Daemon Tools). I also ended up some programm called "homeview" which sounds very wrong. And this homeview installed a folder containing nothing but the uninstaller. I removed it straight away, but i guess it was a bit late. My web broweser (IE) started acting funny. On google upon any search and when i clicked on it it took me right back to google itself and got a bit slow too. I didnt take much notice of it. I then installed Daemon tools and restarted my computer. Upon restart after log in straight away the BLUE SCREEN came up ofcourse disappearing in few secs. There was a general Memory dumping problem. whenever i restarted it occured and I could not use the laptop. It worked in safe mode and I tried to use network in "safe mode with networking" but could not get online. I went to a Laptop shop and someone looked at it and saw that when in safemode the Norton Antivirus is switched off(i.e. from boot/startup option) then in normal mode the laptop was fine. Now I got it working like this but my IE is really slow, I get passed on to this site smartbizsearch. I did a Ad Aware Scan and their seem to be some Malware. Another thing When i go on to Control Panel -> Problem report then again the blue screen comes up. Please Could some one help ... Read more

Windows 8 is SO different from XP - especially since I've never owned or used anything like a fancy cell phone, ipad, or tablet!!!
"learning curve" is an understatement!!

But, Set up went smoothly (knock wood) and I am trying to figure out what all the top/bottom/side pop-ups are all about.
My computer does seem to running faster - I haven't done a speed test yet.
I LOVE the way my shop home page looks now. SO much better than the XP. Maybe Etsy doesn't work well with XP anymore? Don't know.

I saved everything on my desktop to the spare hard drive, but I didn't copy any of my Favorites - I'm sure I can do without 99% of them anyway.

So far, so good.

Ooh, got to go - the guy from Charter just arrived to hook me up ... going from a "speed" pf .40 to 30!! Woo-hoo!!

Hello,

I booted my pc this afternoon and I opened up firefox to read my emails. I heard a clicking sound from speakers. Exactly the kind of sound I hear when connected to someone on skype - when they brush past their microphone or move it. I listened some more and heard a few piano notes (lol) and then fast typing upon a keyboard. Immediatley I thought that I was still connected to my friend on Skype from a previous night (as riduclous as that is) My microphone was still plugged in so i removed it but the sounds continued. I ctrl alt and delete, no skype running in proceses or applications.

I became seriously concerned and opened up cmd, typed in netstat -ano and to my disgust i had established connections from an unknown Ip/Ip's. I learnt how to do this a while ago and it is as far as my knowledge goes.

The PID of the established connections was 1864 x 4, 1863, 1620

I also wrote down the IP's

All conections seemed to be using port 80 if i am not mistaken.

Now when i checked the PID against services and processs one was Telephony among others (i think 1863) and that made me think Skype. The other was Avast!

After writing down all info on the netsat cmd, i closed firefox and the sound went away. At this point i was thinking maybe i had a pop up window open and an advert was playing or something (it has happened before lol), but this does not explain the connections.

Skype had been starting up on boot even though I had disabled it from doing so using msconf... Read more

I just FINALLY got DSL and have been spending time getting security in place and firewalls set up etc. Updated Norton, ran SPYBOT, defragged, etc etc and then if you can believe it got caught by stormer, thinking it was legitimate.

Just after I ran it I then installed spy sweeper, which found a lot of stuff, except this.

I got worried when apps began slowing down. I then decided to check up on stormer and found to my dismay that it is a horror show.

I then decided to try and back up some important stuff on a CD and couldn't get EZ CD Creator to run. I then tried WMP. It is getting an error internal app error, and I just updated it yesterday! Looks like anything that uses resources won't run.

I have been spending hours trying to find the solutions and get rid of it before I have to reboot for some reason and lose my internet connections and who knows what else.

Did the usual Remove Programs and of course nothing. Ran Clean Sweep, but saw nothing relating to stormer. I'd like to kill these people!

So I found this site and ran HJT

Hi, I have a Dell Dimension 4700, built one year ago. Today is the day the warranty will expire, and if I renew later rather than now, it will cost more. I have had no problems with the PC as of yet, and my one support call went well. It used to be my understanding that it's not a good idea to buy the extended warranty on... most any product really. But from some threads I've been reading in various places, I'm thinking maybe with Dell I really ought to. I don't know if what I've read has been skewed by the fact that often it's the unsatisfied that take the time to proclaim that, but what I've read of others' experiences has been scary, and sounds like often one is lucky if they even get appropriate help *with* a warranty still in place.

Strangely (I think), with this model the only type of warranty available, original or extended, is next business day at-home service (with phone support too of course). I don't need that much convenience but I have no choice. So, a one-year extension would be $109, two-year $179. (Don't think I'd be interested in the three-year for $239 at this time, even though I do intend to still have this PC then and beyond.)

Ok so of course I'd rather not pay this but it won't take food off my table or anything. So should I go for it? Thanks so much if I can get some opinions before the end of the biz day (It's about 7 AM CST here now.)

I couldn't find a software forum so I'm posting this here.

I remember using voice recognition back in 1998 where you could talk to your computer and it would do what you said, or if you said "Begin dictation" it would then type everything you said until you say "Stop dictation" where it would then start doing what you say again, and you could say "Go to sleep" and "Wake up" to turn voice commands on and off entirely.

If it worked so well in 1998, it can only be near perfect now, and for some reason I'm making more and more typos using a keyboard so I think it's time to switch back to voice recognition.

What are good options available in 2011 that allow both voice commands and voice dictation?

Thanks

Hello,

I am using windows 7 with excel 2007. I am a Truck Driver Recruiter and I have to figure out each drivers experience level. I have created a spread sheet to help me calculate the number of months that a driver has at each job. =DATEDIF(B17,C17,"m")*COUNTIF(D17,"y")*COUNTIF(E17,"y") is the formula that I came up with to count the months at the job, is the job a DOT driving job and is the job verified. It is working great. What I am trying to do now is only count the months of employment that fall within the last 3 years of the current month. For example:

Joe driver has worked for XYZ Trucking from 9/06 to 1/10 (we only use month and year not exact dates) this gives him 40 months of experience. However I also need to know how much of that time falls within the last 3 years of the current month. So I don't want to count 9/06, 10/06, 11/06, 12/06 of his employment time. I am sure there is a way to do this but I am just not good enought with formulas to figure it out. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I attached a sample page to this post.

Thanks

This is the result of a bad database update from Avast.....this happens to one or the other of the antivirus companies at least once a year! No joke.....

See here> http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r23428578-False-positive-in-Avast-or-is-it-real~start=220

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=51609.0 <<< post about it at Avast user forums, it is operating a bit slow right now due to so many people accessing the site.

If you notice other threads at TechGuy or at any of your favorite sites, you could point them to that page.

You should turn off the Standard Shield in Avast for now, in order to have a usable computer.... depending on how your Avast settings are, you may have files going to the Virus Chest or being deleted....or ignored.

To turn off Standard Shield which unfortunately, leaves you without some protection.... right click the "A" Avast icon and select "On-Access Protection Control" and, in the list of shields on the left, go to Standard Shield and hit the Terminate button..... You will have to re-enable this Shield, when the problem has been fixed. Usually, they issue a new Update which fixes Avast's program, but of course you have to deal with any files that may have been Deleted or Moved to the Chest, etc

I searched Regedit and found the HOSFS.SAM and suchost.exe in the registry. I downloaded the Hack This progam and here is my log file:-

I have a Date/Time field that I need converted to just a Time field.

It comes back with 2/11/12 0:00:00

I need just the 2/11/12

I thought about changing it to a text field but I think there will be an issue with the month because it does not bring back a 0 in from the months with only 1 digit.

This table that I am creating is being sent to a txt file and that is where I see the issue. It looks good in Access, but not the txt file.

Any suggestions?

Hey guys, within a few hours im looking to go on a craigslist spree around the city buying parts, and also going to bestbuy probably for the video card. I need some help since im kind of a dummy with hardware still, but note that i am learning more now! ;D

Anyway I will list my specs. My PC atm is a bit of a dump. This is what i am looking to achiev...

I was told i need bandwith, so i can, say...run 4 instances of World of Warcraft all at once (if wanted to)
I want to water cool it (probably not today, might get parts today though)
I want to run 2 monitors. I will not be running 3.

I dont play like BF or anything too demanding but i still want the cards as if i ever did start to.

I am only running a 250w power supply i believe on my toaster...with a radeon r7 200 series.
8gb system memory
AMD Athalon x4 750k, 3400 MHZ, 2 Cores, 4 logical processors. Quad Core
Core Clock 1188 MHz
Radeon Software: Crimson
System Model: MS-7721

Uh not sure what else i need ill attach pictures. like i said..kinda new lol.

What i do know...
is im going to buy the Samsung 250 SSD from bestbuy
also i am debating between TWO GTX 960's or ONE GTX 970X
They are equivilent to prices.
And honestly..i kind of want two cards for the look. But that means im going to have to change some things? This is my grey area of what I need to know. And also going to buy a whatever power supply. probably a 750w

Please give me a hand asap as im looking to get the hell out of here! xD

how do you set up a password before opening mail? My e-mails have been opened by co-workers and i need to have it protected?

A:outlook today

These instructions are for Outlook 2000. Other versions should be similar.

Right click on either "Outlook Today" (if you're using the Outlook bar) or "Personal Folders" (if you're using the folder list view), go to Properties. On the General tab, click on the Advanced button. Leave the "Old Password" field blank, enter the New Password twice, click OK.

Just be sure to remember the password you enter because getting into your email files if you forget it will take some time and probably some money (for a password retrieval program).

First of all.... Hi everyone, this is my first post... hope I'm good to go in this area?

My problem started yesterday evening when my PC would not boot. This happened a couple of times in the last 6 weeks with no real answer to the cause. No infectious files of any kind were found.
System Restore was what got me back to being able to boot fully until last night. It would just not restore to anywhere that was workable/bootable. So, I had to resort to using my XP disk and the repair feature. The repair worked and I was able to boot my PC again......... BUT I kept getting an Installation Error dialog box saying "Setting Product ID Registry Failed". No matter what I did I was unable to clear it and MY PC ran crappy all the while. I decided to search the Internet for that particular error dialog and found that others were trying to solve the same issue and I finally came across a forum post from this forum that gave me what I was looking for and that is why I joined today.

The problem was my CA Security Suite that I have been running for around 2 years without a problem. Once I uninstalled it my issue cleared up and reappeared when I installed it again.... needless to say, I am trying another AV program right now (Comodo). I still have no idea what originally caused my boot failure and was wondering if there are an other CA AV users that have experienced the same or similar?

PS. I'm not a computer geek in any shape or form and I'm feeling very lucky that I was able... Read more

A:My XP Yesterday and Today

Different security packages & indeed any software can cause different problems (or no problems at all) for different people, it just depends what other software you install (may be incompatible), or even Windows updates can cause trouble on some machines.

I do know that CA Security Suite has attracted a fair amount of criticism over the years because of numerous problems experienced by it's users. I used to be a sworn enemy of Norton Internet Security for years because of it's bloat and heavy RAM usage, but all that is in the past. NIS 2011 is as different as night is to day, the bloatware has gone and it no longer slows down a user's PC at all. It is now my first choice for security software and I've bought a 3-user licence for it.

I've even installed it on my wife's laptop - Vista with 2GB RAM - and it loads faster than it did when Avast Antivirus was installed.

BSOD caused by your ATI display driver

As it is the same BSOD error, there is a high probability that your graphic card is faulty

Possible causes:bad RAM/PSU, incorrect RAM timings/voltages, bad Graphics card, overheating, outdated driver

Uninstall the ATI driver then use driver sweeper to remove leftover ATI files
Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

Then reinstall your driver: ATI Radeon
This was likely caused by the following module: atikmpag.sys
Bugcheck code: 0x116 (0xFFFFFA8008021010, 0xFFFFF88006133F94, 0x0, 0x2)

Hello.

I was posting here a couple of weeks ago about my bluscreens and
was told to uninstall slysoft's Virtual Clonedrive
and remove Acronis True Image.

Today I got 3 new bluescreens in a row.

Can someone give me a clue about what the problem could be?=
The RAM should bee ok due to memtest86

A:3 bluescreens today

3 different BSOD's and they blame 2 different Windows components.
Most likely this is a hardware issue, but it can also be a problem with Windows.

To rule out 3rd party stuff, let's start with running Driver Verifier according to these directions:

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drive... Read more

The third one I know said something like "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and one of them said something like "win32k.sys The driver mistakenly marked a part of it's image pageable instead of nonpageable".

I tested my RAM and found no errors.

Does anyone know what these error codes mean?

Thanks

A:3 BSOD's today

Ok the third error code "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" probably means a heating problem. Next time the BSOD happens, reboot into BIOS and check CPU temp. Post it here.

I will get back to you on the other codes. Gimme a half hour or so.

~Lordbob

EDIT: Since you made that backup, have you changed ANY of your hardware?

Additional EDIT: What are the stop codes? These should appear on the BSOD itself, not the monitor thing. Can you get a shot of the screen itself?

A:Hijacked by Look-Today, Please Help!

Welcome to TSF.

Please do not post your log into someone else's thread. I have created a new thread for you here.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

I, too, have gotten the OpenCloud AV today. I downloaded Spyware Doctor and PCDoctor but neither one worked.

I went and tried your Remove OpenCloud (Uninstall Guide) here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-opencloud-security, but I couldn't even open Internet Options. The Internet Options window would flash quickly and disappear. The same thing happens when I click open my Task Manager, the window just flashes quickly and disappears. It won't stay open. One time it did, I tried to end OpenCloud and it wouldn't allow me. It said that if I tried to end this task, I would lose saved data so I was afraid to challenge it.

I also tried your instructions from this page: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic420826.html, but after I downloaded MiniToolBox, I couldn't run it so I couldn't check mark the following checkboxes:

Report IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings
List content of Hosts
List IP configuration
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

The window where I'm supposed to check the above would also just open quickly and close again. The window doesn't stay open for me to do anything.

Please help or direct me to a removal guide that will work. Thank you.

Please help me, i got 2 BSOD this morning while just browsing the internet, can anyone please determine the cause for me from the dumps attached

A:2 BSOD's today, please help

Both crashes are inconclusive. You'll want to turn on Driver Verifier. In addition to not checking Low Resource Simulation, also do the same for Force Pending I/O Requests and IRP Logging. Have the rest of the options checked. Reboot immediately after you finish it all (by clicking the Finish button). If your system starts BSODing at startup, go into Safe Mode by mashing the F8 key at startup then disable Driver Verifier. Send us all resulting crashdumps.

I did find both your network drivers and your video drivers to be fairly up to date. There's the possibility that the new versions may have a bug or two involved but if they do Driver Verifier should catch it. Otherwise, we can venture to guess they're pretty safe.

I have installed the free USA Today app on the Metro interface and have used it without problems. Today I clicked on a story but now can't get out of it. I can return to Metro with no problem, but when I return to USA Today, the same story is there and I can't go to anything else. Anyone know how to get back to the original?

A:USA Today app problem

I finally solved it. Left-click and it will shrink the news story. On the top left corner, there is a backwards arrow that will take you to the intro.

I have a major issue with IE7. I am running Win Vista Home 32 bit. Everything has been fine up until the past week. I cannot open into a new tab. I cannot open into a new window. Both freeze IE7 and causes me to restart IE7. I have run a Windows Defender scan, as well as an AVG scan and nothing is detected.

Also I can not download anything. I have a link to download software (AVG upgrade) in an email attachment and it fails. I cannot download ANY software of any kind, because it fails to download.

I have searched Microsoft for answers, tried disabling add-in's and nothing is improving the performance. I have read some of the posting here, but I can't figure out what I need to do.

PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME. I am a distance learning student and need to work on classwork due today!!! I NEED HELP!!!!

Hello

Today my windows crashed 3 times, 2x in 5 minutes and 1x after ~30 minutes.

Im using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (Installed for just 3 days).

Hardware changes (3 days ago): new harddrive, HDD => SSD (OCZ Vertex II).
Software changes (3 days ago): Win 7 Pro 64bit => Win 7 Home Premium 64bit (fresh install because of the new harddrive).

What could be the problem?

Thanks,

Tim
Edit: forgot to mention, the first crash came after starting a youtube video, second after loading an URL in winamp (mp3 stream), and third after playing a youtube video (like after 30 secs playing).

These were caused by your Atheros wifi drivers which is of course two years old and in need of updating and nwifi.sys.

After updating the wifi driver I would also run a system file check to verify and repair the system file

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You might see if doing a System Restore at startup using a restore point dated before this problem can fix it for you.

Hope this helps,

I received a phone call this morning saying that my IP address was targeted by hackers. I let them into my computer and now I think that I should not have done that. They charged me $200 and it is on my credit card but I should be able to get that reversed. What else should I do?

A:I think I was scammed today

Change all your passwords for a start as the scammer may well now have all your existing ones. Then run a full anti virus scan and malware scan to find out if any nasties have been installed on your PC.

Hello to all on the forums. I've been having some strange BSoDs recently, and today have two. It's gotten to the point that I'm getting seriously worried. I've followed the instructions on posting BSoD's and have attached my logs below. BlueScreenView seems to suggest that the ones today were caused by something called dump_dumpfve.sys and ntfs.sys. Any clues?

For my system, I've manually disabled both the AMD HDMI Sound option and the HP Photosmart printers (which may show up in the system health log). I couldn't really follow much else in the logs.

Any help? Thanks a ton in advance.

EDIT: I've run sfc /scannow with no errors. MBAM and MSE both show my system as clean. I've run memtest for 4 passes with no errors.

A:Very odd BSoD today

Enable driver verifier. Let it run for 24-48 hours and upload any new minidumps it creates.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Download the latest drivers for your Logitech devices - http://www.logitech.com/en-us/suppor...oads/downloads

Please run these tests and report back the results
1. Memtest86 - Run for 7-8 passes - RAM - Test with Memtest86+
2. Prime95 - Run all three tests for 3-4 hours each or until fail - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-prime95.html

Hey there,

I had my third BSOD today just some minutes ago, so I started looking for help, and found this forum. I would really appreciate it if anyone would be kind enough to help me, and take a look at the .dmp files. The pc has been doing fine since I built it, actually(though I'll have to admit this was the 4th BSOD in total).

I hope I have provided all the required information; the .html(perfmon /report) is named 3xbsod and is inside the zip.

Many thanks!

P.S.:
My pc is running with Win7x64 (System builder OEM (I built the PC myself)), and is also the original OS on this PC.

The age of the hardware/OS is 1-2 months.

A:Third BSOD today.

I see a possibility that your memory has damage.
The best way to check for that is to let memtest86 run overnight. We have a tutorial here on using it.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
I say overnight because you need 5 to 7 passes for a reliable result (and even then it doesn't always catch everything but it's better than guessing)

I don't know how long it's been there, but in the Settings->Network & Internet hub, there is a little link "Network Reset".

I was having trouble with my wireless dropping every few seconds, and I did this reset and everything is now running great. I think cycle after cycle of upgrades might have resulted in something strange in my networking configuration.

I haven't even looked at that, usually going thru network icon on taskbar. Most of the settings bring old style panels anyway.
