Hi all, do you know if it is possible to word-wrap text around an inserted picture in Word 2003? Basically, I'm trying to create a class reunion program with a one-page bio of a person with his/her picture in the upper right-hand corner. I have pasted a picture and positioned it where I want at the top; however, it forces the text below it downwards, which is not what I want. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Select the picture

Make sure the mouse pointer is hovering over the picture and click once with the right mouse button

Click once with the left mouse button on the menu choice "Format Picture"

Select the "Layout" tab

In the section called "Wrapping Style" click once with the left mouse button on "Square"

Beneath where it says Horizontal alignment click once with the left mouse button on "Right"

Click on OK

You should be able to type text to the left of the picture.

When I try to insert Picture from File in Word 2003, the system hangs at the point where I click on the chosen picture. This is a recent development (this week). The only recent system changes are the installation of Powerpoint Viewer 2007 and Spybot Search & Destroy.

Any ideas anyone?

Solved by copying the image folder to another HD, deleting the original folder and then copying back again. Looks like it was a FAT problem.

I cannot "insert picture" in Word 2003 and cannot edit it. The picture shows in Print Preview and will print I am using windows xp.

So the problem is that the picture doesn't display? Obviously you can insert a picture if it shows up in Print Preview. I've seen this error on systems that are low on resources such as memory and graphics. Or Hardware Acceleration settings are set too low.

About a month ago I lost the ability to insert/picture/fromfile into the body of a word document. It was a very useful feature and I miss it. I could resize and move it about. It was useful also in Outlook 2003 SP3, where Word is the default word processor.

Although it isn't likely, I would make sure you don't have any malware.

If all is clean, I would run chkdsk c:/r then reboot, run chkdsk c:/f reboot again, then get CCleaner and delete temp files, then defragment your hard drive.

I try and try to wrap a picture in Word in version X (mac) but no go.
In the Format menu I select "Tight" and pick "Center" for the radio button.
The text moves the picture or the text skips across the picture and leaves a blank space behind etc.
Confused really.

We just upgraded to Word 2003 (using Windows XP).

We have a document that has several lines of text at the top, followed by a multi-row table. It used to wrap the rows to the next page, but now the entire table moves to the next page when the table gets too big for the first page.

I checked the Table Properties and it is set to allow rows to break across pages.

There are no page or section breaks in the document.

Any ideas on how we can fix this?

1. Select all the text in the table, go to Format-Paragraph, and make sure "keep with next" isn't selected in the line and page breaks tab.

2. Ditto with "keep lines together"

3. Make sure the table isn't set for text wrapping (tho it doesn't sound like this is the issue, it does get real weird).

I recorded a Word 2003 macro to do the following:

1) Locate the next graphic (which is formatted "inline") in a document
2) Navigate to some text adjacent to the graphic
3) Cut the text to the clipboard
4) Insert a caption pasting the clipboard contents to become the text of the caption

The macro runs correctly except that it fails to record the pasting of text in step 4. The first time it runs the clipboard contains the correct text (which for the example used in this post is $$Image A$$) and that is pasted into the insert caption dialog box correctly. But when the macro runs the second time, with the cursor between the first and second graphics, although it places the second text block in the clipboard, the text from the first caption is incorrectly used in the second caption. In subsequent runs of the macro all captions are set with the incorrect $$Image A$$ text. The clipboard has the correct text (verified by pasting elsewhere) which fails to get pasted into the caption dialog box.

Although I am a VBA novice, I can see from the last line of the macro in the VBA Editor that the Title field has recorded the first caption rather than a paste command. Here's that last line:

Hello Everyone,

My wife has a document that she's created with stuff like this:

Name: ____________________ Date ______________

The lines are "fields" of sorts that need to be filled out with the required data. But when she types there it moves the other text over and parts the line so it looks like this:

Name: ___anthony_________________ Date ____02/02/04__________

As you can see, not only do the lines part where the text was inserted but because it is extending the lines by adding more text it makes the lines wrap. Is there any way to prevent this?

I used to be able to double click an image/picture from the Microsoft clip art gallery into a Word document.

Now, not only can I not connect via Internet to the Microsoft Image Gallery, when I double clip an image/picture, it is saved as a weird, unkwon file- which of course I can't insert..

Well i did a big report on my computer with Word Perfect i couldnt print it so i took to school on my flash drive. IN my first class i edited it on Word 2007 and in the class i could print it they had Word 2003 and i couldnt open my file and now i cant even open it in word perfect. I doubt i can use the laptops for a while anyway i can open this on wordperfect

If you saved the file in the "new" Word 2007 format (with a file extension of .docx) then you will be unable to open it in the other applications.

For Word 2003 you can install a converter, but I know of no XLM converter for WordPerfect.

When using Word 2007 you need to "save as" Word 97-2003 format to retain backwards compatibility.

I am having difficulty in getting word wrap to operate successfully.
After having entered a page of text, and inserted the picture, graphic, etc I then go to the 'edit wrap points' function which places a dotted outline around the graphic. If I then drag the graphic into place ie over the text, nothing happens.

I have also gone to the the 'Format > tight' function, but again nothing.

How do I get the text to wrap around the graphic as I intended.

I would appreciate any help.

In Word 2000, when I clicked the insert address button, the dialog box (select name) showed three radio buttons: Mailing, Business and Other, which allowed me to choose which address to insert.

These buttons are missing from the dialog box in Office/Word 2003. Is this by design or do other people with Word 2003 still have these buttons??

Any ideas on how to fix it???

I have a user in the network that when she is on Word and hits the Enter key, besides inserting a line, the line is highlighted in black.

She is the only user in the whole network with this problem, which puzzles me, because the applications are server based.

Besides, if I login as myself on her machine I get the same problem, but I go to my PC and I do not have that situation.

She has a thin client, so I think this is the source of the problem, because somehow the settings changed for the thin client, and they messed up her Word settings.

Any suggestions?

I go to Tools > Letters and Mailings > Envelopes and Labels. I would like to insert an address from another program, which is GroupWise 6.5. When I click on the Insert Address button, I receive a message that says, "Address Book failure: "Unspecified error". Check your Mail setup. You must have Extended MAPI version 1.0 or higher to use this feature." I wasn't sure if this was related to Office or GroupWise. It worked ok on Word 2000, while running GroupWise 6.5.

In Dreamweaver MX, under Edit>Prefs>Code Format, Automatically Wrapping is checked, and I can set the number of columns to anything but it won't wrap. It happened in my Dreamweaver class tonight as well. Does this feature work for anyone? Does anyone know what the problem might be?

I have tried MS help and Google but cannot solve this minor problem.

MS Word insists on making fractions such as "1/2" into tiny little numbers that are too small to read and not aligned with the following words. I cannot stand this and think it is caused by autoformatting which I did not turn on and have not been able to turn off.

In Word 97 I was easily able to insert an individual address from the Outlook Contacts folder into a Word document for a letter, label or envelope via the main toolbar in Word. In Word 2003, this icon seems to have disappeared and is now located in Tools/Letters&Mailings/Envelopes&Labels. When I click on the "open book" icon I get an error message as follows:
"Address Book Failure. 'Unspecified Error'. Check your mail setup. You must have Extended MAPI version 1.0 or higher to use this feature".
I have a feeling that I have inherited this problem from my earlier installation of Office 97 and when Outlook was installed with Office 2003, it merely "borrowed" the info in my .pst file to create a new one.
Is there a way round this problem?

I'm having problems with Word 2003 on Windows XP. As far as I know, I haven't changed anything, but when I came to insert a symbol in a document yesterday, nothing happened. Then, this morning, I've found that I can't drag and drop within Word documents either. I've done a virus check and nothing has come up, so I can;t think what's gone wrong.

I've tried running winword.exe/a, which brings up a new Word document without any of my customized settings but with the ability to insert symbols etc. However, if I then try and open my current document using that, the problem returns. Likewise, if I save the new Word document and customize the settings, switch off the computer and restart, I still have problems when opening old files. I've also tried deleting normal. dot and creating a new one using the winword.exe /a file, but it still reverts when I restart the computer.

Is there any way to restore this to normal because it's driving me mad!

First, let me start by saying I am not an IT computer person, I have very basic knowledge (other than what I do for a living) about computers, and I really need instructions that are easy to follow, please?

I am a medical transcriptionist. I have hundreds of auto corrects on my current computer with Windows XP Word 2002 on it. I am needing to, if possible, copy the auto corrects from Word 2002 to another computer with Windows XP Word 2003.

I also have hundred of words that I have added to spell check that it would be great if I could copy those as well.

I use Word 2003 for all correspondence, reports, etc., and would like to know if would be possible for me to set the default layout to Justify the print each time? In other words, when I type a letter, I always have to go back and highlight the content and then press Control "J", and wondered if I can set the program to justify automatically. I have been working on a fillin form and have been finding that when I highlight the REF field and bold it, that the text will bold. It is when I lock the form and enter new data that only the first word in the field will get bolded. Is there something I am missing or else I can do that will fix this problem? I tried to post the file, but I do not have permission to load .dot files.

Try checking off the "preserve formatting during updates" check box when setting up the fill-in field. It puts in a mergeformat into the field code which will maintain the format of the field.

This has been bugging me for quite some time.

Whenever I open documents in Word 2003, I get the following message:

"This file needs to be opened by the Works 6.0 & 7.0 text converter, which may pose a security risk if the file you are opening is a malicious file. Chose yes to open this file only if you are sure it's from a trusted source."

Well, I created it so I trust myself but what does this mean?

Just recently something has changed with my Microsoft Office Word 2003 app.

I'm a writer and I have always been able to drag my pages that I have written today to a folder in My Documents and the same file would stay on my desktop for immediate access later. I realize other may not work this way but it is how I prefer to work as it has become my habit

When I try to drag and drop it now, it drops into the My Documents folder but it no longer remains on the desktop.

Now, in conjunction with this problem, I have another new problem, which is that when I write a page of text in Word and save it to a My Documents folder it doesn't go there. Also when I save a picture to My Pictures as I've always done it won't be there when I look for it. Something is preventing me from saving things and I haven't a clue what it is. I have to open the My Documents folder and drag the Word text page into it. It's the only way I can save stuff for some reason.

Can someone please tell me how I can fix this problem?

I'm working with form fields in Word 2003 and I was wondering if it were possible to create a form field with a line extending to the maximum length of characters allowed? For example:


Where the underline is the form field. I know that MS shows them using tables to create a kind of pseudo line but I was hoping for something more...elegant? One that would be incorporated right with the form field.

I have created a business letterhead as a Word Template with company's logo etc as a picture on top right of 1st page.

When I type into the document or insert autotext entries, the picture stays put, even when I go onto second page. But when I paste text onto the first page, if its more than one page long, it causes the picture to relocate to the second page.

I've tried anchoring the picture. The picture is formatted to be square to text with vertical position absolute to page and "move object with text" is unchecked. I've also tried pasting without formatting. None of these work.

How do I get the picture to stay in its original position when pasting text of more than one page long?

I switched from MS Office XP Professional to MS Office Small Business Edition 2003. Before, in MS Word, I easily resized pictures inserted into a document by dragging on any sizing handles. I'm not able to do that in the 2003 MS Word. When I click on a picture, the sizing handles appear. But when I try to drag any of the handles they are frozen. They don't work. Any guesses why? Hi all, I am sure this is simple, but I have been struggling for hours now. I am creating templates in Word 03, which is essentially a letterhead style document with some areas 'protected' so the company 'brand' is maintained.

The document includes some drop down lists and some areas which are free for users to add their own letter specific content.

Currently, I have the date automatically inserting, drop down lists working .. easy. I have areas where users can enter their specific text ... easy.

BUT I can't find how to give users the ability to insert text or pictures, within a specific area if they so desire. The pictures will be completely user specific it may be a map, or a photo or a graph ... it's up to them and I what them to be able to do it .... any help would be appreciated.

Firstly, Word 2007 can be set to save all documents in compatability mode (.doc instead of .docx). Just save as, or under Word options set it as the default

Secondly Word is full backwards compatible with earlier versions.

I have a savvy computer friend and sometimes her emails do not wrap. Her emails are the only ones, among many other contacts that I receive mail from, that are subject to not wrapping. She tried several settings on her end and her emails still failed to wrap every time. She said that I am the only one who complains about this. I believe she uses Yahoo and I use a web mail account. Is there a simple answer? And as usual, TIA

A) It would be important to be sure what email/email programs she uses. Settings would be different for each, if they exist.

B) Far as I know, Yahoo! doesn't have actual word wrap settings.

Does she type all the way to the end of the compose editor? If she hits Enter before reaching the end, naturally word wrap won't kick in.

I've reduced Microsoft Word so that the window would only take up one third of the screen. I wants to word wrap in that confined space, like Notepad++, but I haven't been able to do so. I searched in Microsoft Office Word Help, reluctant to find the solution.

I downloaded a dictionary in notepad. I copied it to word. It is a list of words one per line. I was thinking of printing it. I need to wrap the text with one space between words and no hyphens. I can't find any help under word wrap. I searched for remove line break too but is only help for add line break. Does anyone know how I can make the text wrap? I've been able to make it into columns but not just have a single space between words. I think I could cut the # of pages almost in half if I could make it single spaces between words instead of columns.

Also, I'd really like to find and remove all words 2-4 letters long since they're in another file already, but this isn't so important.

As we know in Notepad there is Word Wrap feature which helps readers not having to scroll horizontally left to right and vice versa. I don't see how/where we can enable this feature in IE 7 internet options.

Does anyone know?

I've noticed an irritating thing about icons with labels too long to fit into one line, they end up looking like this (see Backgrounds folder). Is there anyway to prevent them wrapping the text this way?

Is it possible to have force IE10 to automatically fit the text to the width of the window? F.ex if I have docked IE10 app to the left, it would be really nice to zoom in to a readable size while avoiding horizontal scrolling. I searched in settings but didn't find anything. It would also be nice if it was possible to make it behave like IE on Windows phone where you can double tap to zoom in on a section.

I am using Microsoft Word Starter 2010 and have a problem with inserting pictures. I click on Insert, Picture, and am able to browse in my Pictures file. When I click on a photo from my files, only a narrow strip of the bottom of the photo appears in the Word document. However, if I use Works, the picture appears correctly. Does anyone know what I need to adjust? Thanks.

I have a Word 2003 document that resides on our server. Everyone who needs the document (it's actually a form) can open it. Is there a way to insert a box that automatically counts how many times the document has been accessed?
In other words, I want it to automatically count UP one (from the last time it was used) every time someone uses the form and display that number on the actual form.
Am I nuts???...or can it be done?

According to its description, ConsecutiveHyphensLimit property is doubtlessly very useful. However, it might be spared for better purposes, if the document is, essentially, a form. Actually, ConsecutiveHyphensLimit property is a perfect place to store the number of times the doc has been opened, because this property, unlike properties of controls of a form, gets saved with the document.
The attachment shows it all in action.

A more ordinary solution would be to store the number in a separate (text) file.

Hey guys,

I have a spreadsheet that I am using to make a proposal for my company. In one section, there are about 6 cells merged together to create an open space, and I have a large segment of text pasted in (400 words)

Is there a limit I'm not aware per cell? The word wrap works on the first 15 lines or so, and then simply cuts off and continues as if there was no word wrap formating on the cell

I have a customer whos daughter was down for thanksgiving. She needed send an email, and used her dad's windows mail on his vista computer. She simply changed the font, and apparently that's when everything went haywire with the word wrap function when typing a new message. When typing a letter, the sentence continues on and on instead of automatically fitting to the window. what gives?

Your observation that change of font caused the problem is probably accurate. To calculate when to word-wrap, software needs what is called font metrics because every character is a different width in all except a few special fonts. Possibly the font she used is corrupt, and giving maybe zero for every character width.

It is not clear from your post if you are complaining that the word-wrap setting is now failing even if the standard font is restored. Is that the case ?

In that case you would need to set word-wrap on again, but nobody can help you without knowing exactly what is 'windows mail' ? Could be anything of a long list of email packages.

Its been about 9 years since I last worked with either access or excel and now im trying to fix a database that seems to have been corrupted.

I had to emergency save data from a dying access database into an excel spreadsheet.

I tried to rebuild the database and import the data from the spreadsheet but wherever there was a line break in an address field, it was replaced by a lovely square symbol. I discovered that in excel this is what happens to data that was word wrapped that is no longer word wrapped. It seems the option to word wrap isnt available when i try to reenter the data into the new access database.

There are 9000 entries so its not possible to go through each one individually to remove the squares...

SO im looking for an expert who can explain so an idiot will understand to help me out with some things.

1) how to remove these squares en-mass without damaging the data or changing its meaning

2) how to set it up so that the data with squares still make sense as an address incase of mail merge or how to resume the word wrap thing in access

3) how to import data into access without datafields being deleted when they dont meet the input rules (even tho theyre set up identically to the database the info came out of) or how to change input rules without losing data.

I'm sure there are loads more things but this is all i can think of for now.

Please help. Its been 9 years since i last had to do this kind of stuff and I cant remember a thing.

Welcome to the forum.

1) Copy the little square then hit "CTRL"+"H" on the keyboard to bring you into Find/Replace. In the Find What: section paste the square ("CTRL"+"V"). In the replace section type in a space. Then click on the "Replace All" button.
2) If those fields have multiple line addresses they should be migrated into separate fields.
3)If you import into a new table it should allow you to import all the fields. The only problem you might have is the field names which Access gets particular about.

Can you post a sample of the data with mock or fake values?

Word 2002 is missing(greyed out) Insert Row/Column when I right click a selected row/column on a table. Please see the attached pic for what I see. However, I am able insert rows and columns from the toolbar.
I've ran office repair, reinstalled word, and rebuilt the file.

I am using Excel 2003 at office, are there any experts to teach me how to use Marco or VBA to automatically insert lines before and after designated word in each cell under the same column.

We are using Microsoft Word 2003. When running a spell check the word pubic is not flagged as being misspelled (I know it's not misspelled).

However we would like to flag it as misspelled as too many people are leaving the letter L out of the word Public and not catching it before they send out documents.

I know how to edit the Custom.dic but how do I edit the built in dictionary.

I am assuming that pubic is not a word you would use in correspondence- in which case you could use "AutoCorrect" to correct.

Tools> Autocorrect--- then give the word you don't want used and the substitute word you do want used.

If there is a time you need to use that word, you can turn off AutoCorrect when the document is finished and manually make the correction before sending it out.

I have an old version of Word (2000), so I am presuming that MS has not chaned the name of this feature.

You didn't give any examples of which words are giving you problems.

I'm guessing that you are referring to the red squiggly underline for mis-spelt words, in which case it could be the language setting of the documents you have pulled off of your network being different to your default language.

Check what you have in Tools / Language / Set language.

I know how to save documents created in Word 2007 so it can be used with Word 2003 done manually.

Can someone inform me whether I can set my "save as" so documents created in Word 2007 will be always saved as default to be compatible with Word 2003?

I prefer to use Word 2003 rather than Word 2010, and sometimes docx require 10, tho I am sure they open in 03.    There used to be a "open with ......." and you can select the software you wish, but I am not getting that.    I just want to "set" docs to open with 2003 automatically.   For some reason both of them "instal" themselves rather than just open up. Hope someone can help. JudyEdit: Moved topic from Windows 7 to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

In the old microsoft word, when you had more than one document open, they would all use the same window, and minimize within itself. However I now have 2003 and when I open a new document, they are completly seperate windows and use two buttons on the task bar. I liked having all my documents open in the same program that i can control with the x in the corner. This is hard to explain so i Hope you know what i am talking about. I know it is possible to change this setting because ive used antoher computer where it has done this. I just can not find it in the options or anywhere I have looked. Any help would be appriciated. Even maybe a term i could use to look for it. THank you

In Word 2002 (XP version) you can go to Tools > Options, click on the View tab and clear the checkbox labeled "Windows in Taskbar". According to the Word Help, this will force all Word document windows to be represented by a single button on the taskbar. Word 2003 should be similar.

I am writing a companion to a book I wrote several years ago.
I am still using Word 2003 and I am wanting the formatting, etc. to match the old book.

I have a folder of documents created on Word perfect X4 that I need to convert to Word 2003. I have Word 2007 but have found that some with older Word versions (before docx) have trouble opening them.

I tried the Word batch conversion utility in the program but the docs came out garbled. This would save me a lot of time.

At my work we have templates from Word 2003.

When we open them in Word 2007 they doesn´t work as they should.

We have for example a menu like

A couple of things.

Firstly here is an interactive guide for some of the features in 2003 - 2007. It is useful in some circumstances

In regards to using 2003 templates for 2007 - i noticed that not all things worked in the same way in 2007 especially when it came to printing (things would display differently to how they would print)

I work for a big company and i had to redesign alot of templates. Sorry.

In regards to changing the numbering, you now right click on one of the actual numbers within the document and you can change the numbering from there.

I bet someone here can answer this one. I've been unable to find any forum who even understands this question! I'll put it as plainly as I can.
When occasionally using Rich Text (or HTML) format for composing an email in Outlook Exp 6. The word-wrap can't be made to work.

Even if you change the MIME encoding to "none" from Quoted Printable and the Word-Wrap settings become un-ghosted and available to ask for a word wrap at say, 70 characters, it doesn't seem to make any difference - the word wrap line goes on to over 100 characters across the page before it does a Carriage Return (wraps to new line) - If you then switch the MIME back to Quoted Printable from None, the Word Wrap settings goes back to Ghosted-out and still the word wrap doesn't work. Is Outlook Express not actually capable of doing word wrapping when in Html format? Or is this a bug?

I normally use Plain Text but sometimes I need to put some small jpgs into the text like a publication to illustrate something and this is the best way to do it. It's highly inconvenient to use WORD and attach it to the mail.
Anyhow I'd be glad of someone who knows why this won't set or if there's a way it can be made to wrap.

I am having an issue with word wrap in outlook 2007. I always want to send email as text at 76 word wrap. I tried several number of wraps 72, 74, 76 and 80 but all the same. below is my sample email with messed up word wrap.

I have almost EXACTLY the same problem found in this thread:

The only difference is that I'm using Windows 7, not VIsta. I have tried to edit the registry as pointed out in post #66 of the above link but........ 1. "Word.Document.12" does not exist in the .doc folder
2. "Word.Document.12" in the .docx folder has a value of 0000
The .docx folder contains a file that reads: Word.Document.12 REG_NONE (zero-length binary value)

I'm pulling my hair out because ALL our old 2003 word docs will not associate with Word 2007. Excel and Powerpoint work fine. Opening these files the long way round is very painful and frustrating. Can anyone help please?

I am running Vista and Word 2007. I would like to save the document as a Word 2003 document so it can be opened in older versions of Word. I use "save as" and select Save as Word 97-2003, but when I try to open this document on an older machine "Windows XP and Word 2003" it opens with a lots of symbols and then the text is jumbled into one continuous paragraph.

I know there is a complatibility pack that can be downloaded for Word 2003 that will allow users to open Word 2007 documents, but I would still like to be able to "save as" Word 97-2003 so people without this compatability pack can still open this document.

Any help?

I just started using Word 2007 and am having some difficulty adjusting to the changes.

Specifically, I have created a lot of forms in Word 2003 by using text boxes and dropdown lists. After creating these forms, I protected the documents and other people within my organization use them as templates, i.e. performance review forms, OSHA First Report of Injury.

My problem is that I can't convert some of the forms to 2007. Sometimes the 2007 Protect Document feature works great and other times it doesn't work at all. I really don't undertstand what the problem is.

I tried to upload the form here but I received an error message which said that the format was invalid.

You can either get yourself a newer copy of MS Office or download and install a copy of Libre Office which will open all MS Office documents.

All seems to work well except proofing in word 2007.  It defaults to a location called C;:\.......Microsoft/UProof, and I cannot change it to Microsoft/proof.  The file UProof does not seem to be on my computer.  I tried creating a new custom.dic, but it automatically defaults to UProof.  Is there any solution to this problem?   Thanks

Hi Esmo.For Word 2007, the Custom dictionary is actually stored within the UProof folder and Uproof should be there(earlier versions of Word used a different destination/folder called Proof). I normally use Word 2003 for documents, although I use Outlook 2010. This morning I opened a Word 2010 document and after quite a while of some sort of an installation, I was able to open the Word 2010 document. I did not think too much of it, except that later I was sending an e-mail and attached a Word 2003 document and when I went to check it (i.e. open it up) it opened in Word 2010. How do I disable Word 2010 as my default program to open Word documents. I do not want to uninstall the program, but at this point I am not ready to learn how to use Word 2010.

I have a Lenovo laptop which my husband purchased for my daughter. It came with the Vista bundle and recently he downloaded Microsoft Office Suite 2003. The laptop is set up with different users, specifically my husband as the administrator, myself with administrative authority, and my daughter with no privileges. I work as a medical transcriptionist and am planning on using the laptop when I go on trips. I downloaded Nuance MedRemote Webtop. This program has 3 components: one component with the patient demographic information, an audio player to listen to the digital voice recordings, and then a Word program. It can work with Word 2000, 2003, or 2007. I have MedRemote loaded on my main computer with Word 2000 on an XP platform and it works fine. On the laptop, however, the MedRemote cannot find the Word program. It gives me an error "Word not available." However, I do have Word 2003 and it works fine. I have run the detect and repair option on Word 2003 in the hopes that this would help, but it did not. It may be that MedRemote is not finding the "" page. Can anyone help with this? I really appreciate it!

My user has spent years building her Auto-Text feature within Word 2003 to the point it is now, but her company just bought her a new Windows 7 Pro machine with Office 2010 installed. She asked that I migrate her Auto-Text data to Word 2010. After researching on I found that this data is stored in a file and this file needs to be migrated to (in Windows 7)
C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office.

Having done this, I now find the file I placed there in this location, as well as a new file that Word 2010 has created, but the two aren't merging. I see the new file has macros enabled... Does anyone have any ideas on how to merge these files into one file useable by Word 2010?


A:Help with migrating a Word 2003 file to Word 2010 is the global template for Microsoft Word and is stored in different locations on the system based on the version of Windows and Word.

You dont want to merge them you want to backup the existing file to something like normal.old.
Then replace the file in the correct location, which I cant research for you right now.

The bad thing about doing things like this is that if gets corrupted, all the work put in to this is lost!

I tried replacing them with legacy controls but can't get them to work. Several problems. I'm having a hard time familiarizing myself with Forms in Word 2007. Another issue, is that I can't get the Forms Spell Check to work like it did in Word 2003. I want my users to be able to check the protected portion of the document. They also need to be able to unprotect the document if they have to make some changes in the form.

It would be very helpful if there was a Word 2007 guide that explains the differences from word 2003 and offers an interactive training.

I'm desperate. Can you help me?

Yes, I am using outdated software, but this 5-yr old laptop came with XP and it still works great for my purposes. I am also using Office 2003.

I have been asked to format a Word 2003 document with a header/page numbering system as follows: Name / Title / page number; e.g., Smith / Report / 17. It should appear at the upper right.

I see there is a way to do something close: Author, Page #, Date, by going to View, Header and Footer, Insert AutoText. But that's not going to cut it.

Is there a way to accomplish what I've been asked to do (Smith / Report / 17)?

You don't need to use AutoText. Since only the page number changes, just type in the rest how you want it and insert the page number field at the end.

I am using Microsoft Word 2003. Whenever the program is opened, it dispalys the four most recently opened documents in a right panel. I know that I did not open those docs, which means someone else did. But when I go to "last accessed" in the properties for each one, none of them display any recent dates. I have even opened several docs today and the "last accessed" date is not changing to today's date either.

When I open Word or Excel in Office 2003, I get a Column on the right headed by a task pane "Getting Started" I can eliminate on a per case basis but want to eliminate it for all documents when opened. Is there a way to do this?

Same procedure for Excel.

If that doesn't work, (it does on mine) there is a registry edit, but you will have to Google for that,
and you should backup your registry first, if you go that route.

I just upgraded to Word 2003, which I use for medical transcription. With the amount of word processing I do daily, I rely heavily on automatic capitalization at the beginning of a sentence. However for some reason, it will not capitalize if the previous sentence ends with a numeral followed by a period. I have gone into Exceptions under Auto Correct; however, no numerals followed by periods are listed, so I cannot remove them and solve the problem. Any ideas? I never had this problem with my previous version of Word.

I'm considering buying another license for word 2003 to use on another computer. I'm confused about oem versions available. I thought oem versions couldn't be used except on the computer they came on, but that might be the software versions that are only installable via recovery cds and not the software that comes on its own disc or on its own disc in its own box. has an Office 2003 Professional OEM for sale. They have OK web of trust, norton and macafee scores and were included in a nextag search, so I think they are legit. Assuming it's ok to buy an oem version, what is the difference between buying an OEM vs full version? They also sell academic versions. Should one only purchase an academic version if one fits Microsoft's criteria to purchase an academic version?

You cannot buy standalone OEM software legally. They come with hardware. However, Outletdeal and similar places legally sell it by including the hardware it's bundled with. In other words, they are advertising the software but what you get is the software AND the hardware it comes with. For example, Roxio is often bundled with CD/DVD drives. You buy Roxio OEM, you get a qualifying drive that it ships with. So yes, this is legal as long as they are shipping everything as the package it is licensed for.

Another thing with OEM is that the software is only supported by the vendor, not the software company. Outletdeal offers installation support as is required. I have no experience with them so I don't know anything about the quality or extent of the support.

Some OEM software does not qualify for an standard upgrade path. This can vary depending on the software, and full versions are usually upgradeable. Outletdeal states that their OEM offerings are upgradeable but I have no way to verify this or find out what, if any, stipulations there are.

If you qualify for an academic version of software, you will be asked to provide proof that you are a student or an authorized representative of an educational institution in order to purchase it. Usually this is either a purchase order from the school, a student or faculty ID or something similar. As long as you meet all the requirements of the academic licensing, then you are entitled to full support, etc.

How would I go about easily putting tables together side by side on word 2003? When I copy and paste tables of the same length, it always drops off to the next page etc. Here's a quick screenshot of what I'm trying to do, mocked up on paint
