I had 2 files saved in microsoft word. They were for a cd label program. The files were print.doc and demo.doc. They have disappeared and I don't know where too find them or how to get them back on my computer again. Can anyone help? Thank you

A:lost files in microsoft word

Look in the recycle bin in case they were accidentally deleted. If they aren't there, go to Start>>Find>>Files Or Folders and look for print.doc in C:\ and do the same with the other file. If its not there its gone for good. Also open MS word and at the bottom File Menu there is a list of recently opened documents and you can look for it there.

I opened on an old document yesterday, typed about 4000wds, saved periodically, (autosave is also enabled) and saved when I closed it.
This morning when I opened it there was only the work I had done by the very first time I hit save. 5 hours of other typing was gone.
I've run a search for both .doc .docx and .wbk, manually looked though my folders and recycle bin, I've also downloaded and run Recuva. Nothing.

Any ideas?

I have lost a Microsoft Word feature (Microsoft Office XP Professional with Front Page) from my computer and I do not have the relevant disc here to restore it. What is coming up is "Error 1706 - C:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office10/1033/SETUP.HLP".

I have done several things that might have caused this part of my program to become lost. I set up some limited user accounts. I also used Tweak XP Pro and removed what were listed as unnecessary files, having read that these could easily be restored from the Recycle Bin if necessary. I then... ouch, dumb.... unthinkingly emptied the Recycle Bin.

I have tried System Restore on XP. I did a Registry Restore on Advanced Installer Pro (which was the program with which I emptied the Recycle Bin). I also removed Tweak XP Pro, which was supposed to restore the system to the same state it was in before the installation. None of these have worked. I really need to get back whatever is lost, preferably without having to access the relevant disc which I do not have with me.

I am using a laptop with Windows XP SP2. Would a program like File-Saver get back this feature? What else can I do? I need a simple solution!

I would sure appreciate help if you know the solution to this issue.

Regards, Cheryl

Hello Cheryl & Welcome to the forums.I am afraid you will need to do a repair install of MS Office. In order to do this you will need the install CD.Go to Add & Remove Programs and click on MS Office then click Remove and you will see the option to Repair, you will be instructed to put the CD in the Rom Drive. This is the only option I can see, maybe someone will have a better way, without the need for the CD and will chime in.I also used Tweak XP Pro and removed what were listed as unnecessary files, having read that these could easily be restored from the Recycle Bin if necessary. I then... ouch, dumb.... unthinkingly emptied the Recycle Bin.I am not sure how important these files were that you deleted and don't know if this will help.http://winsupportcenter.com/a/recover.htm

I recently had some problems with my PC and received Marvelous help from a couple of the techs. During the time I had these problems, something else weird happened that I just realized. My Microsoft Word is gone. I tried to update it and was told that there was nothing to update. Since I also have Works, I thought it would be okay, because I could use Works to write my letters, but when I went there and clicked on letter, it would only pull up labels and business cards. The part where you go to write a letter is gone. What happened?? The spyware didn't like letter writing? That is really strange. Can anyone please help me out and let me know what to do to get Word back??? Thanks!!

I am using Office 2000 with XP Pro, IE8, and SP3. I had three pages typed in MS Word for a newspaper article and lost everything except the first two paragraphs. I've never had this happen, so I certainly have no idea of what caused the problem. I was wondering if there is anyway to recover my information, there was a great deal of thought and work involved in this document. I would greatly appreciate any help I may receive, this has been energy draining as I have tried to recover this information to no avail.

Thanks for any help someone may be willing to offer.

Hi guys, By posting this I know I will probably get grilled for complete recklessness and stupidity. The truth is that you will be right. I have no idea how this happened, or even if this is what happened. Anyway, I worked the whole day on a word document without saving, at least that is what should have happened because now all my work is just gone. I have googled for about 2 hours now and tried multiple methods. With no luck. I have office 2007 and tried the following:

-.tmp and .asd and ~ files
- open and repair from windows
and others I can't remember now

If anyone has any advice, I'd appreciate it because I am quite desperate!

I had a word document open (it wasn't saved). I was working on something for a few hours. Then I opened another word document (that I have had trouble opening in the past) and it completely closed the other, unsaved document that I had been working on.

I hadn't saved the 1st document so I can't search for it. And when I open the 2nd document (that closed the first) it tells me that the document caused a serious error the last time I opened it and asks me if I want to continue opening it.

Please help! I really need to recover this word document. Is there any way I can do it?

My operating system is Windows XP, Home Edition.

I was editing a very large document in Microsoft Word and somehow wasn't able to save it and it disappeared leaving in it's place a file called ~WRL3892TMP. I can't open it as it says file not found and clicking on properties tab shows that it's a hidden file. Since I'm unable to open this TMP file, there is no way I can change the file extension from tmp to doc (saw this suggested elsewhere).

I am the only person using this computer so if it's a permissions issue, what do I do? I don't understand "permissions" either. I just want my document back..

Please help!

Thanks in advance.

Do you have an earlier version of the document saved anywhere? Perhaps you could reconstruct it from that point. There may be a way to restore the document from that temp file, but I don't know what it is. Sorry!

So I am officially desperate! I worked on a project in Microsoft Word 2007. I then went to go open it the next day and all of the text was completely gone!! I am only a beginner when it comes to computers so I have absolutely no idea what happened.
To better understand the problem here were the chain of events:
I worked on 2 documents, saved them in a folder, and then closed MSWord
I then worked on them the next day not realizing that for some reason they were opened as "Read Only"
Seeing that, I copied the the text and saved them in new documents
I went to Documents and attempted to move the new documents into the folder with the originals but an error message reading something like "this action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program" when the file was NOT open
In my frustration I attempted to move it over and over again to no avail
I gave up and closed the Documents folder and turned off my computer
The very next day I went to open the project and both the original documents and the copied ones were COMPLETELY EMPTY!!!
the files were still there but the all of text was completely gone!
Through Microsoft forums I've repeatedly tried the "Recover Text from any File" and "Open and Repair" methods
They've remained completely empty
I don't think I can redo the project correctly in the time it is due! Please any info will help. Thanks

Also, if this helps- I tried to save another Document and MSW says... Read more

I'm going to tell the whole story incase the answer is somewhere lost in one of the steps I took. I'm writing a paper for school and it needs to be on Word 2007. I have two accesses to this type of Microsoft Word. At my boyfriend's house and at school. I started it at my boyfriends house and didn't have my flash drive, so I e-mailed it as an attatchment to my yahoo e-mail. When I was at school, I opened it and worked on it again. I saved it. Later still at school, I opened it, worked on it again and saved it. As I was saving it I realized that the one I had originally opened from my boyfriend's house was the file extention .docx and the file extention my school uses, even though they both are Microsoft Word 2007, was .doc. So I saved it twice just incase one file wouldn't open. When I got to my boyfriends house, I opened the .doc file. It came up and I finished my paper. Throughout working on it, I randomly and continually clicked the "save" button. Not the "save as". When I was finally finished, I went to upload it onto the internet to turn it in like I always do, and I couldn't find it. I of course closed the program before I realized I couldn't find it, so I couldn't try to resave it as something else. I know I saved it more than once. I looked everywhere I can possibly think of!! The recent documents, my documents, everything.

I really need help. Please someone tell me there's a way to find it. It mus... Read more

It "saved" to a temporary folder. If you've searched the whole drive for the file name and it didn't show up, then it has already been wiped out. When working with e-mail attachments, you need to save it to a known location before making changes to it.

I lost a really important Word file that I opened by a webmail on IE7 by clicking "open" instead of "save." Then I edited the file yesterday and unfortuantely clicked "save" instead of "save as." Now I can't find the file, despite the fact that I turned on view hidden and system files. When I search for all files edited yesterday, it can't find anything!! I really need this file soon, so I appreciate the quick help.

As a test, today I opened the same file from Webmail and I again chose to "open" instead of "save." Then I edited it and then clicked "save." With it still open in Word, I looked at the "properties" and I found that it is in a subfolder of the "Content.IE5". After a lot of trouble I found a way to browse to Content.IE5, but I don't see that subfolder (\temporary internet files\low\content.IE5\QIM1AZLI) anywhere. In fact all the folders in the Content.IE5 folder seem to be most recently edited 2 or more days ago! It makes no sense. So either my Vista Home Basic is lying to me (it won't find that folder) or Microsoft Word is lying to me (there's really no such folder "QIM1ALZI"). I'm also worried that even if I found the folder "QIM1ALZI" that my file from yesterday (which is what I really need) will be in a different folder in the Content.IE5 folder.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi: Try running the system restore utility and select a restore point to a time before the automatic HP update ran. If you are unfamiliar with how to use this program, please read the info at the link below. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore Then change you HP update program to notify you that there are updates and you choose when to install them rather than it being done automatically. That way you can run them and find out which one is blowing up your system and you can prevent that one from running the next time. Or you can just leave things as they are if they are working OK for you. Paul

Hi

Here is a strange one. I have Microsoft Word 2000 on a computer running Windows XP SP3. I just began having a problem opening documents directly in Word. The documents will open but they are not right. For example, I have a document that is passworded out. Within Word, the document will open, but it does not ask for a password, and the contents of the document come up scrambled. Here is an excerpt of what it looks like:

+??+???7k'?p%V9
q|?F
t?Uzjikvn?nnU
b*79g?CAg?
t???c\0B?~I?_sD
l%*~tL
T,?*O?>.???l?C?
Ab/hA>[S?

This goes on for 20 pages.

However, if I go into Windows Explorer and open the document by double clicking on it there, it correctly asks for the password and opens fine. Weird, no?

I tried opening other documents from Word that do not have passwords. They open, but the documents include a bunch of formatting instructions that usually remain hidden. But from Windows Explorer they open fine. Here is an example:

Document opened with Windows Explorer

Blaine
Blair
Brody
Bryce
EVAN: English form of Welsh Iefan, meaning "God is gracious."
Lucas
Quentin
----------------------------------------------

Same document opened from within Word:

Brody
Bryce

On my old Thinkpad Windows XP notebook, which is almost three years old, the language bar is now starting to malfunction. I usually need to switch between English (US) and Chinese (PRC), and the language bar has been working for me in doing so until recently. Now, when I open Microsoft Word 2003 and try to switch to Chinese, Word freezes and I have to use the Task Manager to end the Word process.

I have been able to switch to Chinese (PRC) on my desktop with the language bar, but even when I do so, the language bar still says I'm on the English language (the only reason I know I'm on Chinese is because there's a check mark next to the language).

My dad had recently installed an update from Java, and in the process inadvertently installed OpenOffice as well. He had also installed Windows Live Messenger and in the process installed Rhapsody player as well. I did a System Restore to a point before he installed any of this, but that didn't help at all.

What could be the problem? I've cleared my registry. I've tried using the language bar in safe mode and it has the same problem. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the East Asian language files, but that hasn't helped at all.

Is there any program that I should use to diagnose this problem? And afterwards, how do I solve it?

I have several password protected documents from an old crapped out computer that are done in a very old version of WordPerfect and I cannot open them up in my current computer's "Microsoft Works Word Processor". I have created in Microsoft Word 2003 on an XP OS some lengthy documents. I created them using a view setting of 150%.

I sent them to my employer, who is using Windows 98 and Microsoft Word 97. My boss opened them with his system and they displayed on the screen at a view of 200%. He wants me to send him Word documents that he can open from the CD-R that I send that will automatically display at 100% view on the screen so that he does not have to set the view for each document as it displays.

So what is the answer.

Is there a way that I can save my created documents so that when my boss gets them on a CD-R that they will open on his system at a view setting of 100%.

Is there also a way that his system can be set to default to 100% in reading from the CD-R.

My boss does not want to copy the documents to the system hard disk from my sent CD-R, preferring to read and copy directly from the CD-R that I send, so that the original documents will not accidentally be changed.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Does Vista Microsoft Word Support Old Format Microsoft Word?

I'm assuming you're talking about the new office 2007? meaning word 2007?

If that is the case, then yes it does run older versions of word. In the sense that if you have a word document that was made and saved in Word 2003 it would work in 2007.

Just like when you make something in word 2007 you are able to save it as a Word 03-07 document so it works on both versions of Microsoft Word.

Have you recently activated OfficeXP?. Only time i've seen this happen is when Microsoft Office has not been activated or after the office program has been activated, and then the program has not been closed. Without activation, Office programs operate in Reduced Functionality mode and tend to act this way.

To check whether the product has been activated, click Activate Product on the Help menu. If the product has been activated, a dialog box is a displayed with a statement that the product has been activated. Otherwise, the Office Activation Wizard starts and permits you to activate the product.

I can't seem to get Microsoft Word to open off my desktop. When I double click the icon on my desktop, I get the following error message:

App Name Winword.exe
App version 9.0.0.6926
Mod Name mso9.dll
Mod Version 9.0.0.6926
Offset 0004551a

I have tried reinstalling the software from my Office 2000 cd.

I have also tried renaming the mso9.dll file to mso9.old and then using the install cd to repair the install.

So far no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this happened at the really poor time with me being in the middle of a large proposal.

Thanks.

When I use WORD from Microsoft and go to shut it down, and exit a document, a menu pops up for templates and says the document "may have affected the template and do I want to save it". What the heck is this all about.

I tried to get rid of every template except Avery, however it won't delete because it says it is " in use"...
I don't get it. Can someone tell me how to shut this off and delete all the stupid templates which I don't need in the first place.

Hello, bleepingcomputer community!

I really have no idea what went wrong with my MS Word. Bold has become it's default font type.

I've already checked out FORMAT > FONT. There, there are 2 groups of font styles: Latin Text Font and Asian Text font. Asian text font seems to be working fine. I have choices of changing them to regular, italic, bold, or bold italic.

However, for Latin text font, I can only choose italic, bold, or bold italic. My sister and I most often use times new roman, which is under Latin text, so that's why this is quite a problem for us...

Could anyone help us, please?

Here are my specs:
System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Media Center Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Dell Inspiron MXC061
Genuine Inter® CPU
T2300 @ 1.66GHz
1.66 GHz, 0.99 GB of RAM

MS Word:
Microsoft Office Word 2003 (11.5604.5606)
Part of Microsoft Professional Edition 2003

I didn't know what information I should include here, so I just typed stuff I saw in ABOUT and Properties.. ::
Thanks again for anyone who could help!

Hi, I've been having this problem with MS Word 2003 for a little bit.

What happens is, I open the application, and the Word box pops up like it's about to open like it should, but then it takes forever to open, maybe over 10 minutes or so, unless I just end the process like I usually do since it takes so long.

The only thing I've noticed different about anything when I open it is, Navw32.exe starts running, and if i end that, an alert window opens that says "The document C:\Documents and Settings\David Solis\Application Data\Microsoft\Normal\Templates.dot is still infected. Do you want to delete this file?". I'll click no, and Word opens.

Any idea what any of this is, why it's doing it, and how to stop it? Thanks!

Dave

When I got this XP desktop tower (used) I installed Microsoft Office Professional 2007 from my discs (with product key). I was typing an article for a newspaper in Word last night, and suddenly I could no longer type. It said "offline" down below the word document in the lower right corner. I clicked on help and a red error message stated that I was not connected. I saved what I had typed and shut down the doc. I went online and tried typing my addy and password in my AT&T email program and my keyboard wouldn't work!

I checked the plug-in on back of tower and it was fine plus the keyboard was lit. I shut down the pc. This morning I can type again but wish to know what went wrong with Word 2007 and how to fix it. Microsoft Diagnostics Tool came up and ran tests. Could not ping my stmp or inbound and outbound mail. Is this some problem with Outlook? I never used it. I went to the Microsoft Office website and searched everything to find a solution and alot of the articles were for changing template, registry, etc. I don't want to do the wrong thing.

I have IE8 and it takes me to my AT&T homepage from desktop.

Hello all,

I have recently been having a few problems with Microsoft Word 2010.

The first of which is that it keeps trying to handle download requests:

This happened when Action Centre told me that I needed a driver for my memory card reader so I clicked download from the Dell website, and it tried to open the download link in word.

Its also done something similar before, but I can't remember the details

Can anyone think of a reason as to why this is happening?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

I think you mean .doc document, not doc. document, right?

Are you opening it from Explorer, or from within Word?

Have you tried opening another .doc file?

Try creating a new document, save it as .doc, close it, and open it again.
Report if that works.

Good luck

I was just wondering if anyone might happen to know as why Microsoft Word is changing my hyperlinks to where it is saying Hyperlink and then the mailto information instead of just displaying it as a link like it should be.

I am using Office 2003 Professional for the most part with the exception of Outlook. When it comes to Outlook I am using 2007.

If anyone might happen to have any idea as to why that is occuring and as to how I can fix it permanently, then I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know because at the moment I am totally stumped as to what it could be.

Sounds like Word is displaying the field codes. I don't know whether it's the same in Office 2003, but in Word 2002, you'd go to Tools/Options and select the View tab. Under "Show", deselect the Field Codes checkbox and click OK. Hope that helps.

I've been having this problem for a little while now. When it first occurred, I didn't think it was much of a big deal. I just assumed that it was a temporary problem and that it would eventually go away. Unfortunately, the problem hasn't gone away yet. It keeps occurring. It doesn't occur everyday, but it occurs every few days or so.Here's the problem: Sometimes, when I open Microsoft Word, it won't open. A box pops up telling me that the feature I am trying to use requires me to install it with my Microsoft Word installation CD. So whenever this problem occurs, I have to go get the Word CD and insert it into the CD-ROM drive and it installs whatever "feature" it says that needs to be used.I'm not sure what's causing this problem, but it is very annoying. I upgraded to Office XP SP3 and I also used the "Detect and Repair" feature from the Word Help menu, but none of this has seemed to help. Is anyone else having this issue with Microsoft Word 2002? Does anyone know what could possibly be causing this? I really would like to get this problem fixed permanently so that I won't have to keep having to get the installation CD. I also used the same installation disc to install it on my mom's computer, and it does the same thing on hers also. What can be done to fix this?(Moderator edit: post moved to more appropriate forum. jgw)

I remember when installing 2003 that it asks you if you want to remove the install files or save them to a folder. Did you prompt it not to save?Try using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301Read the whole pageYou can use it with your version

Hi Roisen,

You're seeing the "formatting marks". Depending on your version of word, there should be a button visible on your toolbar with this symbol: ¶ That button toggles the formatting marks off and on.

You might also try the keyboard shortcut of ctrl+shift+* (asterisk)

In Word 2007, the formatting marks button is on the Home tab in the Paragraph group. If that doesn't work, click the "Office" button -> "Word Options" ->"Display" and clear the check-boxes of marks you don't want visible.

Hello,

I'm having a formatting issue with Word 2007.

The problem I am having is that the document is not holding the format when I reopen it or when I add blocks of text. The main problem comes in the reference sections of the document where tabbed indents are lost and spaces appear randomly between words. This causes the text to move throughout the document.

Very frustrating. Thanks so much for any and all suggestions.

A:Microsoft Word 2007 Problem

When you add blocks of text, before inserting, format it to the document format you already have. Another choice is in "Advanced" choose it as a Cut/Copy/Paste option. For the reopening problem, "Register" the title of the document choosing Formatted Text in the Auto Correct screen.

A few days ago i had to have my HP Presario reformatted. I lost my Microsoft Word 2007 among other things of course and have been unsuccessful in reinstalling it. I have tried endless ways of getting it back, but the best i have been able to do is install a Compatibilty pack 2007 Office system and an Office Word viewer 2003 plus .Net Framework 3.5 and 4 Client profile! I read somewhere that i needed these things in order to install Word.  All that has happened is still no proper access to it and a slower computer!  Windows also decided i needed 177 updates, taking close on two hours to complete!!. I am working in Google Chrome..

I am slowly losing what i have left of my marbles. Being only 75 doesn't exactly help either lol!. There are a number of important documents i must attend to which need Word rather urgently.

There is another issue which might be responsible. I keep being told that i need to 're Sync the phases' (this is a new one to me).  and finally i have re done my DNS.

I hope some kind soul can solve this for me please. I shall be ever grateful. Thank you and regards JH

PS. I live in the Philippines so there may be a time lag in my responding to any replies.

I was using Word normally only a few hours before this started.

Word types random sentances by itself. It also prints multiple pages, opens new windows and changes the page set up all by itself.

I brand a file onto the computer from my USB device just before this.

Anyone got any idea what the problem is and how i can fix it.

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the program, but the problem remains.

Help!

Hi,
I'm having this problem with Microsoft Word.
I has never happen before and it doesn't happen with other office program like PowerPoint or Excel. Just Microsoft Word.

My Office is: Microsoft Office Word 2003 (11.5604.5606)
Part of Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003

The problem is when I'm using my Khmer Font (Limon) and I type a certain letter (only this one letter) which use Ctrl + Alt + T it change my font to Time New Roman size 10 and the cursor also change appearance.
I'm attaching the pictures of screenshot and logs I scan with MBAM and CCleaner. Although I don't think it's virus problem.
Please help me.

Thanks,
Rasmey

Sorry on the go

But all it is. Is that you have size 10 and then size 22 after it

I can't explain it clearly it's 10 10 10 10 10 22 22 22
And when you backspace the 22 size it stays 22 until you make it size10 again
As for that little dot, it must be the font at that size, or something

Operating System Windows XP home sp2

My Microsoft Word program has for some reason locked Times New Roman font style in BOLD type on my document creating page. I have gone to Format-font and set the style to REGULAR which is what I want and had previously--(a correct preview is displayed) but when I hit the default button the font style does not change back in Word !
I have repeated this several times but my word page still types in Bold! I have checked other using other font styles and everything shows BOLD.

Help please, Tom

You can try searching your computer and deleting/renaming the file Normal.dot which is the template that Word uses for all documents. To find the location of your template file click TOOLS >> OPTIONS >> FILE LOCATIONS and then select User Templates in your list of file types and click the modify button and the path to your template file will be displayed.

It's usually something like:

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

After finding this file in your computer, rename it to something else like Normal.Old or delete it completely and then open Word. Word should automatically recreate the Normal.dot template for you. If it works properly after renaming the template file, you can delete the old one since a new one will have already been created.

NOTE: Normal.dot may be hidden so you may have to go into your Window Explorer options and change them to show hidden files and folders before doing your search.

(MY COMPUTER --> TOOLS --> FOLDER OPTIONS --> VIEW --> SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS)

Regards,
Rollin
