Microsoft WorksSuite 2005-Why did microsoft give me works 2003 sp3 update?

Q: Microsoft WorksSuite 2005-Why did microsoft give me works 2003 sp3 update?

On my desktop (windows xp) I have Microsoft Works Suite 2005. Recently Windows update gave me an update for Microsoft Works Suite 2003. My computer accepted it ok........but, my laptop (windows vista) rejected the update? Is there an update for the 2005 version or do they just bunch them together?

Hi, I am not sure about this....

I run Secunia - the software updater/ checker and it tells me that this is outdated and needs a patch for "security reasons"

microsoft visual C++ 2005 redistributable package (x86)

Does anyone know what this is and do I really need to update it?

Obviously I can make a system image before installing in case anything goes wrong but I was just more curious to know what this is.

Thanks!!

PS I am 32 bit!!

A:Update Needed: Microsoft visual C++ 2005 redistributable package

Microsoft Visual C++ is normally installed along side an application. They install runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries which are required to run applications developed with Visual C++ on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2005 installed.

Theres a good chance that a piece of software on your system requires the C++ libraries to run, it is safe to leave the application on there, you might have issues with a specific program if you remove it.

If you can verify the update is coming from Microsoft, there should be no problem downloading an update for it.

The autocomplete feature in microsoft outlook 2003 only works with some of my contacts. Not sure why this is? For instance, I have many contacts that start with i, but when I type in i, only some of these contacts come up as possiblilities? Any and all suggestions as to what my be going on are very welcome. Thanks!

A:Microsoft outlook 2003, autocomplete only works with some contacts??

Have you rebuilt your autocomplete list?? This list is populated when you send emails. As a quick alternative, unplug your network cable, send a test message to all your contacts, then delete that email from outbox. This will populate all your contacts in autocomplete list. Hope this helps

Also I was wrestling to find out why autocomplete didn't work. The reason was, I was using default profile. You have to create a profile after upgrading from Outlook2000 to 2003. Control panel->Mail->Create Profile->New. Then only Outlook2003 setup .NK2 file for that profile.

Suddenly for no apparent reason I get the "microsoft works ad in update" saying if I have installed works change the path below. I havn't touched works besides to use it in over a year. If I just click ok it seems to unload a file real quick then pops on and says Done! But if whatever it is doing is done why is it coming on every single time I try and use works?? My desktop icon for MS Works will only run this above error then never opens. If I try and open works from the program list it opens but after a good 2-3 minute delay. Keep in mind I am VERY computer illiterate so clear, simple step by step instructions would be helpful

I was looking for some information on Works 8 and came across a Microsoft Works 8 Update

http://www.microsoft.com/products/works/international/Update_1001.mspx

It doesn't give any instructions on how to install it and I don't know if I'm suppose to remove Works 8 before installing this 220MB update/upgrade. Although it does say if you have Works 8, download this.

I don't want to make problems with the current Works 8 version on my computer. This update removes Quickdraw and Word Art. Does that make the program more secure?

If anyone has any thoughts on this, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Sincerely, Libra

All you do is download it and run it. It will see your current version of Works 8 and upgrade it to the latest patch level. Updates such as this require the program to already be installed on your computer.

I recently purchased an ASUS Windows 8.1 64 bit computer.  I transferred my Microsoft Works Version 8.0 word processor and spreadsheet files from my old computer onto the new computer.  I just purchased the Microsoft Office 2013 Home and Student Edition (64 bit version) from an online vendor and installed the software onto my new computer.

I have no problems opening my Works spreadsheet files in Excel.  However, when I attempt to open a Works word processor file in Word, I get gibberish.  I did some research online and found out that there is a Microsoft tool called Works 6-9 Converter which allows one to open Works files in Word.

I downloaded the Works 6-9 Converter tool from the Microsoft Support website and installed it on my PC.  However, when I subsequently attempted to open a Works word processor file in Word, a dialog box appeared with the error message "Word cannot start the converter Wks9Pxy.cnv" and the file did not open properly (i.e., I got gibberish).

I did a little more research online and found out that uninstalling the Works 6-9 Converter, then downloading and installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package, and finally reinstalling the Works 6-9 Converter may correct this problem.  I followed these steps, but unfortunately when I attempt to open a Works word processor file in Word, I get the same error message and the file does not open properly. ... You may want to check, but on my Vista I don't see any new add-on and I don't even have C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack folder. http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2010...lbar-update.ars As part of its regular Patch Tuesday, Microsoft released an update for its various toolbars, and this update came with more than just documented fixes. The update also installs an add-on for Internet Explorer and an extension for Mozilla Firefox, both without the user's permission. As you can see in the Windows Update screenshot above, Microsoft does not indicate that the update will install anything for either browser. It's also not really clear what the installed extension actually does.

Microsoft Office 2010 is installed on my PC (Dell Studio XPS8100, Windows 7). Another member of the household has asked whether she can install Microsoft Works 9.0 on my PC, now that her PC is on its last legs. (She greatly prefers Works over Office, for its simplicity and because of her long-term familiarity with Works.) If Works 9.0 is installed onto my PC, would this cause problems for Office 2010, Works 9.0, and/or my PC? If so, are there workarounds? Thanks.

A:Microsoft Works 9.0 and Microsoft Office 2010 compatibility

The official "word" from Microsoft (pun intended) is that Office & Works can co-exist on the same PC.

Provided you do not intend to share documents between Office & Works (ie both suites will be used separately), there are no "workarounds" or special procedures you need to remember when using them.

Finding it impossible to instal Security Update for Microsoft Works 9 (KB2680317) from WIndows Update

Windows XP SP3 [32-bit] Internet Explorer v8

Microsoft/Windows Update works when you let it "automatically" install updates - i.e. Click on "Turn Off".

It fails when I try to do it manually.

NOTE: It is only the install that fails - "A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed". I have no problem selecting and downloading updates.

I have tried a number of ideas posted here and elsewhere. But, so far, nothing has resolved the issue. This is not a result of a repair, serivice pack update, etc. I tried Dial-a-fix also, but it did not work either.

Notified that 3 automatic updates were available to be installed. Two of the three were installed just fine but (KB943552) which is a Junk EMail Filter update will not install. Checked via Google and this is a common problem but with an incredibly complex fix of the registry. I do have Outlook as part of the Office Suite but do not use it. I can live without the update but I am constantly reminded that updates are ready, etc. Any way to at least make the icon not appear other than to opt for no automatic updates? I have a new laptop with Windows XP SP2 on it, IE6 (though I use Firefox, not IE), and MS Office 2003 Student Edition. The latest update that popped up as "high priority" from Windows Update is this GDI+ Detection Tool (KB873374).

It sounds like you have to install it then run it and then visit MS Office website to check for updates...? Is this worth doing? Can it cause more problems than it will help? (I thought I've read about issues when updating MS Office with security patches...? And that you have to download yet something else to even check for Office security updates...?)

Or do Office security updates come through Windows Update, and I don't need to worry about this? (But if that's the case, then why even have this GDI+ thing available?)

I'm always worried about ending up with a bunch of conflicts with other programs like AVG, ZA, AutoGK, DVDShrink, etc. And I'm always hesitant to install something that has to run on my system.

I've got AVG and ZA, keep both up to date, and I have Automatic Updates turned on just to let me know when there's a critical update (so I don't have to visit the Windows Update site to get updates).

I was thinking I would only do the updates to Office that come through Automatic Updates and not worry about any others...

Also, what's the difference between Microsoft Update and Windows Update? Is it better to have Microsoft Update, or does that have its own set of problems associated with it? (A... Read more

A:Questions About Microsoft Gdi+ Detection Tool & Microsoft Update Vs. Windows Update

Well to start off the difference between windows update and microsoft update is as follows. Windows update is what originally comes with the computer and only updates the windows platform. If you choose to upgrade to the microsoft update it will check all of your microsoft programs for updates.
As far as going to the office website for updates... unless you want to install non-critical updates to your office suite then you shouldn't have to at all. Finally - that GDI+ detection tool is the little program microsoft uses to scan your computer for any of their products - that is if you use microsoft update and not the original windows update.
So if you like your computer to maintain critical updates by itself for the microsoft programs than yes use microsoft update and yes install the GDI+ decection tools.

Hope this helps you out!

Since buying my new Dell Inspiron computer with a Win 10 operating system I am able to download the game but then when I try to start it I find that I can't open the programme and play it..

Does it give any kind of error or does it just not start?

Try running it in Windows XP compatibility mode by right clicking on the shortcut then selecting "Properties". Go to the Compatibility tab, check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows XP. Checking "Run this program as administrator" in the same tab might help as well.

Keep in mind that that game is almost 13 years old, so it may just not be compatible anymore.

I've always logged in with a local account and just sign in to individual apps w/my MS account. With 8.1, my MS account is often "forgotten" by various apps, and I'm prompted to switch my local login to a MS account. I just sign into that app again, but this has gotten old.

I hate the thought of having to use an MS account, but MS's frequent pestering is kinda doing what they intended - wearing me down to where I'm about to give in.

Should I? Is it that bad? Or should I continue to fight the good fight?

Whilst trying to restore my money 2005 back up to a new computer, I keep getting the message "money cannot locate ..... or cannot open it, possibly because it is a read-only file or you do not have permission to change it or your disk is write protected". It doesn't matter whether I try restoring it from my back up or a new file - still the same message. I've tried copying the file from my thumb drive onto C:drive but still the same message. Any suggestions? BTW I am the computer administrator.

Hi welcome to the forum,
I have never used Money or whatever, but my question to you.
Is it the same OS as your prevous Computer?
Windows 7 stores things in a different place so maybe the file contians a link to it's original location so it won't be able to find whatever it's looking for.
Have you tried importing the data instead of copying it an opening it?

I'm on a fresh reformat, not a pre-built computer its a custom built with Windows 7 64bit professional. Just a quick question I went ahead and installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable X86 and X64 and by looking at my "uninstall or change a program" area I have 3 Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables listed there, I'm assuming by accident Windows updates installed over one for a different version. I'm assuming the regular Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable is the X86? because the other two say X64. Now, should I leave it alone or can I go ahead and remove the older version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable? Which of those two X64 versions is older? and can remove.

If you want a free solution, it's online with Quicken (well, online they call it Mint but it's from the same people). Here's the link: Free Personal Finance Software, Budget Software, Online Money Management and Budget Planner | Mint.com.

If you prefer to keep it on your desktop, Quicken is excellent (and what I use) - though it does go for $40 (possibly more for S&H) if you choose the cheapest outlet for the basic edition - more if you want additional options. Here's the link: Quicken Deluxe 2010 - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com.

Here are four free financial managment software options (including mint mentioned above) which you can review to see which, if any, fits your needs: Free Personal Finance Software: Top 3 Free Online Finance Software Programs.

Finally, while this is a bit overwhelming in terms of the number of options - I've sorted to show just the free ones but you can expand the search if you want - here's a very comprehensive list of options to review: Personal Finance Software - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com. With 26 pages of listings, it's almost manageable - the full listing including options that aren't free is 883 pages!

If you're looking for free, then I'd recommend Mint simply because it's from the makers of Quicken so it's likely to have similar features and options (and I consider them very good - but I haven't tried the online version myself as I have the desktop product so ... Read more

I need a little help with Microsoft Money 2005. I am trying to figure out how to back up my entire file for me. It only seems to backup a small portion of my file, since it only requires one disk and my money file size is about 4MB. Is there a way to have it back up the whole file to a jump drive? Thanks in advance for your help.

A:Microsoft Money 2005

I'm running Money 2004. I've been using Money for a few years now and have not had any backup problems. The backup file is compressed & somewhat smaller then the live file.

If you click BACK UP you should be fine. There is also an option on the backup menu to make it smaller. Click TOOLS, OPTIONS, select the BACKUP tab; or when your backup window opens, click OPTIONS.

If it would make you feel more at ease, you can test using the restore feature.
First do the backup; & second, rename the original .mny file, (example GOOD.mny). Start money & select the restore feature. Then select the backup file taht you just created. If everything comes out okay you are fine.

IF NOT, close Money, rename GOOD.mny back to its original name, start Money, click FILE, OPEN, & highlight the correct file.

I'm not sure about going directly to a jump drive (for some reason 2004 will only backup to floppy or hard drive) but once the backup is finished just copy or drag & drop like any other file.

Unfortunately, while it has made donating easier, the Web has also led to an increase in online donation scams that play on our conscience. In our effort to lend aid quickly, many of us set aside our cynicism and become more susceptible to these false solicitations. In addition to conning givers out of their money, donation fraud also takes its toll on legitimate groups, denying them funds for relief efforts and cheating real disaster victims.TIPS ON HOW TO AVOID ONLINE SCAMS• Improve your computer's security and use current technology to help block spam. • Be on guard if you receive an unsolicited e-mail from a charitable organization asking for money. Since KB2538242 pertains to the VS 2005 /redistributable/ package then definitely do NOT try to uninstall it. It is the "runtime" libraries that are needed for other programs installed on your computer to work properly. Uninstalling it may break some unknown number of other programs. DO do the update if suggested by windows update, and if that succeeds, leave it alone at that point.

I have downloaded Microsoft's Virtual Server 2005 (currently a free download) and would like to install it on my Windows XP Pro system. The documentation with this software references IIS and requires it be also downloaded and installed. I'm confused about where to go on Microsoft's site to download the "World Wide Web Service component of Internet Informations Services (IIS)." I've downloaded and installed the Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Manager for Windows XP, however I don't see anything in the components or documentation for about a "web component."

1. Have I downloaded the correct file?

2. If this is not the correct file, what should I download and where specifically can I find it?

3. What component of this program (or the proper program) is the world wide web service component?

4. Finally, I see references to VSWebApp.exe. Is that, by any chance, what I'm in need of and if so, where on Microsoft's site can I download it? My searches have failed to help me find it.

I'm certain, it's apparent I'm a newbie. I'm usually able to google my way to what I need to know, but I've failed miserably this time. Any help would be welcomed.

IIS is already present on your machine, just not installed, and the "World Wide Web Service" is a component of IIS - get it like this:

Start - Settings - Control Panel
Add/Remove Windows Components
Check "Internet Information Services"
---> Click "Details" to de-select SMTP and/or select FTP services if you want

Although it got rid of the microsoft security essentials alert trojan...a bunch of new fake antivirus pop ups still would come up. So i repeated the steps and ran both Rkill and malwarebytes again. This time malwarebytes would just shut down part way through the scan. Afterwords when i'd try to reopen it. It would say...

Windows can not load the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item

I would try deleting and reinstalling malwarebytes and the same thing would happen, first it would shut down during the scan then not give me permission to access the program afterwords.

Then it got EVEN WORSE...i tried getting a clean install file for both rkill and malwarebyes from my other pc on a memory card to transfer over to my laptop when i discover...this bastard trojan has disabled my memory card reader!

So now i've tried hijack this, security task manager...you name it, no matter what program i try to open, whether i'm in safe mode with all wifi switched off or otherwise. Every program i open gets shut down then im locked out of permission to access it.

A:Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Wi

Try temporarily disabling your antivirus application and if you have a third-party firewall installed, enable the Windows firewall temporarily but disable the third-party one.

This has solved the same problem for many other people according to what I've read elsewhere on other forums. Seems to be a common problem with Net Framework updates.

If this solves the problem and the update installs okay, you can re-enable your antivirus and third-party firewall, but remember to disable the Windows firewall as having two firewalls running together is not advisable.

Today Secunia tells me that Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition is "end of life". I don't know what it does. I assume it runs in the background. But I don't know what to do with it. It's listed in Revo so I could remove it. But the removal could affect other things. So rather than do something stupid, I thought I would ask about it and someone who knows something about this will point me in the right direction. Secunia did not say the program could be updated. It says "end of life" and the "click to update" link goes to a more recent version of Microsoft SQL Server. Again, I thought it would be best to ask about it before doing anything.

I had this program because when I was taking some courses in college, I was required to have this program on my computer to complete assignments online. However, I am no longer needing this program and I am having a very difficult time removing every bit of this software off.

I'm just curious why Visual Studio seems to be difficult to remove from the computer? Is there a reason behind that, or is it just one of those software's that are a pain to remove?

Any suggestions on how to get it to be removed completely without running into problems? I did start to remove some of it, however I've ran into a bump in the middle of removing it.

I don't know. I have tried to use programs that are supposed to remove programs completely off your PC like revo uninstaller, but I was very confused. I was hoping there was a way around not having to install something like revo uninstaller. I was hoping there was something kind of like what norton had, a uninstaller for their particular software and anything that is tied to it or whatever.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Resolved. See my last post.

I'm trying to install Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Suite 10. I would ask on the sony forums, but they are complete idiots with their impossibly complicated registration process for the forums (telling you your zipcode is wrong but not giving you a place to actually give it to them, or telling you need a computer ID number when you can't find it unless you install the software...which won't install).

Anyway, I try to install it on windows 7 Home Edition 64bit, and there's a problem with Microsoft Visual C++ 2005. It says it needs to install the service pack for it, but when I click to install it via the Sony software, it says "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click Ok to try again or enter alternative path to a folder containing the installation package 'vcredist.msi' in the box below."

I read around and others have this problem, so they uninstall c++ 2005 and reinstall it and it tends to work for them. Well, I can't uninstall it and start over as it needs the same file to uninstall it. Catch22.

I downloaded a vcredist.msi file from rapidshare, but it didn't work. I can't find just that file on the MS site. There's a vcredist.exe, but I think you have to some how extract it from that, but it won't work. I can't do anything with this. Thanks in advance for any help.

I am trying to install some software. The installation goes smoothly until the last minute, when the installer tries to install "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable". This also works, but at the last minute it hangs with one second left to go, thus preventing me from installing the software at all. An error then pops up, saying: "Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800736B3."

I am running on Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit with SP1.

Can someone tell me how to fix this?

Hey guys.

When ever I try to play some games, for example GTA Vice City, GTA IV, GTA: EFLC, COD: MW2, COD, Black Ops etc from Steam (even from the Games DVD) it tries installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2005. I don't know what it is, and why it installs it or even needs it.

Screenshot:

A:Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Installer Error

Quote:
Microsoft Visual Studio is a complete set of development tools for building ASP.NET Web applications, XML Web services, desktop applications, and mobile applications. Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual C#, and Visual J# all use the same integrated development environment (IDE), which allows them to share tools and facilitates in the creation of mixed-language solutions.

Source: Visual Studio 2005

As I would understand it, the Visual C++ program on your machine would allow interaction with any other program (your games) that has been developed with any of the above mentioned programming languages.

Have you checked in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features, You may have C++2005, and 2008.

All you need to do is update them and the errors should stop.

I have created in Microsoft Word 2003 on an XP OS some lengthy documents. I created them using a view setting of 150%.

I sent them to my employer, who is using Windows 98 and Microsoft Word 97. My boss opened them with his system and they displayed on the screen at a view of 200%. He wants me to send him Word documents that he can open from the CD-R that I send that will automatically display at 100% view on the screen so that he does not have to set the view for each document as it displays.

So what is the answer.

Is there a way that I can save my created documents so that when my boss gets them on a CD-R that they will open on his system at a view setting of 100%.

Is there also a way that his system can be set to default to 100% in reading from the CD-R.

My boss does not want to copy the documents to the system hard disk from my sent CD-R, preferring to read and copy directly from the CD-R that I send, so that the original documents will not accidentally be changed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Microsoft has released a general-purpose software tool for assessing the security of applications, part of a growing suite of free offerings designed to help third-party developers design safer programs.
Microsoft Minifuzz is a lightweight file fuzzer, a type of tool that detects software bugs by throwing random data at an application. Under Redmond's Secure Development Lifecycle (SDL), all code under development must be extensively fuzzed so buffer overflows and other common flaws can be identified before it goes into production. Plenty of larger developers have adopted the practice, but smaller shops aren't climbing on board yet.

The install stalls for a very long time when it first starts the install. Message saying "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable" with nothing else but the cancel button.

After about 15 minutes, the progress bar comes up with "Gathering required information..." above it. The bar will progress to almost near the end then I have to wait a long while again.

Then "Preparing to remove older versions of this application..." and stalls again near the end.

Then it returns to the first message where it has the "Please wait" message and nothing but a cancel button.

Then a progress bar appears again, just a bar no accompanying text, and stalls at zero, no progress.

It goes through multiple stages of progress bars that finish quickly then it asks to repair.

If I wait long enough it will go through its cycle and complete itself. All the stalls are about the same length.

After that, the Microsoft DirectX installation goes through the same length stalls, first stalling at Initializing.

No other install has this issue and in fact they are fairly quick. C++ redist and DirectX are the two that always stalls and takes forever.

I have had this issue with many installs of windows 7 previous to my current one and I never really tried to fix it due to me being patient and usually having other things to do. It has gotten to the point that I am tired of waiting for this every time I install somethin... Read more
