Solved: outlook completed tasks

Q: Solved: outlook completed tasks

I am using outlook 2003 with an exchange server. I use my task list as a todo list. When I mark something as complete I see it has a strike through. The next day I come to my computer and the item that I checked of and had a strike through is gone. Does any body know where this went? I would like to keep these items as a reminder for when I fill out my timesheet.

I just started using Microsoft 2010 and in the Outlook tasks I have created recurring tasks. In the old XP version when I completed a recurring task, the completed task would move to the top of the list. Now, it just puts it below the original task. Is there a way to automatically move completed tasks to the top of the page?

Can anyone tell me why my Outlook 2007 send/recieve pop-up box shows strange numbers of tasks completed when i press send/receive ? Before finally showing 2 out of 2 tasks it will show 2 out of 3 or 4 out of 6 etc.

I only have one email account - very basic. I was wondering if this has something to do with the process of setting up Outlook initially when it creates a .pst file which i then deleted and replaced with my own .pst file from my previous computer.

I don't seem to have any problem receiving or sending mail otherwise. Should I just ignore this and disable the send/receive progress box ?

A:Outlook 2007 Send/Receive Progress # out of 6 tasks completed

Welcome to TSG!

When the Outlook Send/Receive Progress window pops up, click the Details >> button.

You'll get a window like the image below (email ids redacted) which will give you a better idea of what's going on. As you can see, my Outlook checks 6 addresses. A Send and a Receive is done for each address, accounting for the 12 tasks.

Hi guys,

Recently I have noticed if I add a task (like C:\Windows\notepad.exe) to the RunOnce registry key,
which is "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce\",
then after system reboots, the Vista destop does not show up (totally black) until the task completes (in the notepad case, until you close notepad).

while I can see the explorer.exe process in the taskmanager, it seems to be blocked. However, if I kill explorer.exe and start it again in task manager, the desktop shows up immediatly.

I found this behaviour on all Vista editions,
does vista behaves in this way? if it does, is it documented?

A:RunOnce tasks in Vista must be completed before desktop is available?

Hello Kenny, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If you wanted Notepad to open at startup, then you would need to place it in the RUN key or in the Startup folder in the Start Menu instead. The RunOnce key is usually only used for actions, like Windows Updates, that need to finish running something only at the next startup.

Hope this helps some,

I have an issue with one user where task can't be added to Outlook 2003 Tasks.
I was able to create a subfolder in it and I'm successful in adding tasks to that subfolder, but not in the main Tasks folder.

When ever I try adding a task, I get the following message:
"Please save the task order by clicking Save Task Order on the Actions menu in the "Tasks" folder. The view must not be filtered or grouped for Save Task Order to be available. Could not coplete the operation. One or more parameter values are not valid"

I've gone through every possible setting. I went as far as uninstalling and reinstalling Office and recreating the users Outlook profile on the PC.

Any other suggestions?

Outlook 2002 caused me no end of problems for years and I sat there and took it, but finally I decided to get rid of it and switch to Thunderbird. I'm happy with it, but one of the main reasons I stuck with Outlook so long was the "tasks" function, which gave me timed reminders of upcoming events, responsibilities, etc.

Can anyone suggest what I can use to replace it? I imported the tasks into Thunderbird but I have no idea if TB has a similar feature, or whether there is a plug-in of some kind I can use. I want something that will allow me to get reminders all the time about what's coming up...

Note: even though I have tons of tasks already imported, just being able to use these is not a deal-breaker; if there's a great plug-in I can use that would mean I'd have to start over on the tasks, I'd deal with it.

In Outlook, you can assign a new owner of a task and send them the task notice. When that new owner sends a updated task progress report our original task doesn't get updated to the new completed %. Is this normal or should it update the original task that is still viewed by the originator.

I have a fellow co-worker who has Outlook 2003 with Exchange. She has dozens of active tasks, at certain points; some of these tasks lose a chunk of the messages in the body disappear without any warning. I notice that when this happen, all the tasks that lost part of the original texts all have the same modification dates and the font/size get resetted to "arial, size 10" where she would have used a different font like times new roman.

What would cause Outlook tasks to get modified without anyone doing it and how do I figure what causing this issue and how do I prevent it?

I am using Outlook 2003 and I have a contractor using Outlook 2002. I have created many tasks for him in Outlook 2003 and assigned them to his email address. This makes them unable to be edited from my end. When he sends them back to me they show up as an email that is unable to be opened and I cannot do anything with the tasks since the last action I did was to assign it to him, and I no longer have control over the task from my end. The reading pane says "this item cannot be displayed in the reading pane. Open the item to read its contents" but I cannot open it, it does nothing when I double click or right-click and select Open.

We are both on the same POP3 server but we do not have Exchange. I am running Outlook 2000 on both my laptop and desktop computers. Ultimately I would like to be able to sychronize the information on both..on a continuous basis. In other words, sometimes I will be checking email from the laptop, other times from the desktop. At this point, I know of no way to keep the information straight, so that it is always in synch. Is this possible in an environment without an exchange server?

What I am currently doing is using the desktop primarily, then copying the files onto the laptop. I am not accessing or sending emails from outlook on the laptop. When I need to send emails from the laptop, I do it from the web interface provided by my ISP.

A:Tips on synchronizing Outlook Email and Tasks

You can, but its a bit of a hack (or very specific configuration) that can be accomplished if you have a cerrtain type of mail service, most of which are a monthly fee but Gmail and now I believe Yahoo (but you'd have to have the paid account), have what is called IMAP email (Hotmail (or Live! Mail) does the same thing though its more proprietary) that basically keeps all the email online the same as always but it also syncs with whatever desktop client logs in and is configured for IMAP mail so no matter what system you checked mail with, you'd have syncronous mail.

The cost? $0 if you use Gmail. You can find more information about configuration from within a gmail account under settings>Forwarding and POP/IMAP. You should even be able to forward your email from your current account to Gmail if its not already and allow the continued use of your current email address as well.

I think its very kool and I'm gradually trying to get all my accounts there or Windows Live! Mail is working pretty good for me also since I have mostly Yahoo and Hotmail accounts already.

I used to enjoy using the outlook to sync tasks with other users over the internet. It appears this feature is no longer supported on newer versions so I have been hunting for an online version. I down loaded this software call 4Teams. It turns out that you cannot do recuring tasks, so I removed it. Afterwards my outlook was only opening every other time. I reinstall/repaired it with the install disk. Still the program showed the additional 4-team button on the toolbar. And I was still having problems. So I totally reinstalled it, and it still showed up. Now it won't open at all.

By the way, when I use Ctrl-Alt-Del to stop it after it locks up for several minutes trying to load, I see two outlook items, one dim the other normal in the end program screen.

I have sent a support reuest to 4-teams but have not heard back from them.

I'm new to figuring out Tasks (etc) in Outlook 2003 SP2.

On Thursday 7/27/06 I entered a Task in the morning and gave it a Start date of 8/1/06 and a Due date of 8/3/06.

I then went into Calendar and told it to also show me TaskPad (View - TaskPad) and to show the TaskPad's next seven days of items (View -TaskPad View - Show Tasks for Next Seven Days) the Task shows up.

I then went to Tasks and selected Simple or Detailed view and the Task also showed up there.

But if, still in Tasks, I selected "Next Seven Days" it did NOT show up.

What's going with that?

Then, later in the same day, I entered a new Task, giving it a Start date and a due date of Today -- 7/27/06. But when I went into Tasks and chose to show Active it did two things that were really weird:

1. It did not show the Task has Start and Due dates of today. 2. It did show the Task that has a Start date of 8/1/06 and a Due date of 8/3/06 (it's Reminder is also 8/3/06). (Note that when I choose to show Next Seven Days this one still fails to show up, which it seems it should do.)

On more experimenting with that Task with a Start and Due date of today that didn't show up in Active after I created it, well, once I went in and changed the Start date to yesterday, closed it (which resulted in it showing up in Active, in red), and then re-opened it and changed the Start date back to today, then it DID show up under Active. But why didn't it show up under Active when I... Read more

A:Outlook Tasks date filters acting very weird

Okay, sorry... upon more experimenting I'm learning the quirks of the program:

1. Next Seven Days is really today and the next six days, so 8/3/06 was no included.

2. TaskPad in Calendar defines and treats Views very differently than Tasks does.

3. Active shows everything but Deferred so I'll "assume" I accidentally had that selected as the reason why a Due date of today didn't show in Active (I "hope").

We use Outlook to manage in-house tasks. Customers send in problems to a specific mailbox, someone monitoring that mailbox generates a task using that email and assigns the task to another user to handle it. The second user accepts the task, adds whatever work they do, and finally sets the status as Complete, which closes it on their end and sends an update to the monitored mailbox for closing it there.

95% of the time, this works flawlessly.

Sometimes the second user goes through all the motions and closes out the task, but the monitored mailbox task is never updated correctly to show it as closed. This leads to a minor amount of tail-chasing and finger wagging as people get confused and wonder why something is still showing as active.

The problem seems completely random - it's not just a single user, it's happened to numerous users. It won't all happen at once, but maybe 1-2 times a week that the process breaks down. All of my testing has everything working correctly.

My inclination is some type of user error, but all parties insist that they always do everything the same way and couldn't possibly be causing problems. A manager escalated the issue to the company president and in turn the issue became my issue and I need to find a resolution.

Web searches don't show any kind of history of this, or the results are buried so deep in other topics of a similar nature that I can't find them. Does anyone have any idea if this is a programming iss... Read more

Hi everyone! I support a medium-sized law firm and we've recently upgraded from office 2003 to 2007. Needless to say there's been quite a number of small glitches that we've been trying to work out for a while and they've been getting me stumped.
One problem is that a number of users use tasks to handle deadlines and they're frequently updating the due dates several tasks at a time. Some have been reporting that if they update about 20 due dates they can no longer update any more dates until they restart outlook. One guy also said that after he sent an email the due dates were updating again, but pushing the send/receive button didn't cause the same effect, which seems confusing to me.

It seems to me that it might be an issue with the exchange server and possibly caching, but I can't figure it out.
We're using exchange 2003 SP1 for our mail by the way. All help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

My Power User Tasks Menu is not totally functional. Only the "Run" task launches. None of the other tasks work from this menu. I'm running an account set as administrator, and have tried the separate Administrator account to no avail.

Running Windows 8 Professional x64 upgraded from Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
Gigabyte P67A-UD7-B3 motherboard
Core i7-2600K 3.40 gig

I have tried implementing this tutorial: Tutorial: How to make Windows 8 understand you ARE the Administrator

Any suggestions?

I'm posting here after giving up finding the answer either from Apple, limited use experience or search since in this forum are found folks frequently knowledgeable across silos (I've first tried the MS Office forum to no avail)

Given: MS Outlook '07 + iPhone.

Problem: To sync Outlook Tasks to the phone maintaining the sort order of my desktop Outlook. If you sync using Apple's iCloud tasks are placed in the reminder app which does not allow for custom sort and seemingly sorts by the least reasonable measure.

I could get tasks to sync using Outlook Connector and (opening an account with) Hotmail. However I can't find a current straight answer as to whether that option falls under $ subscription. Further, even if I did sync this way I don't know if the tasks would still be rearranged by the phone or whether it was the iCloud that rearranged them when I attempted that route.

Lastly, I could (for $10/mo) just have my entire Outlook sync through Rack Space's Hosted Exchange. Apart from getting tasks to the phone this does have another important benefit that might also be achieved using Connector. But if I'm going to pay for this, even if the $10 is double a MS charge, I'd prefer going with Exchange. But the core question remains the same (which I cannot get from RS either). Will the tasks on the phone, after sync, maintain 'my' sort order from Outlook.

Anyone got an idea it's surely welcome.

A:Wrong forum (but) Outlook tasks sync iphone MS conn vs hosted exchange

First, I don't own an IPhone but a Droid, but I've synced and configured Iphones at work thru our Exchange Server. Syncing works very well with the email, calendar and all the Tasks goes under Reminders in IPhone and the sort order in Outlook stays the same as far as I know if not I'd hear complaints from the Users.
But, with the hosted Exchange solution I don't know if it will make any difference. Best thing to do is give it a try for a few days and see if it works for you. Most of the hosted exchange providers should have a free trial.

Have you tried iMExchange App on your phone to sort your Tasks in the Reminders App?

I need some code whereby the user has to enter values in certain fields before they can save and exit the workbook. For example, if they enter the letter "A" in any row of column M, then they have to enter a numerical value of between 0 and 50 in the same row column T. Does that make sense?! Any ideas?

A:Solved: Force fields to be completed - MSExcel

Yes. Use this event macro (see attached image).
It will run before the workbook is closed. You can evaluate a criteria and depending on it, set Cancel to true or false. If you set Cancel true, then the Workbook remains open. In this branch of "If... Then... Else..." you can also set up an MsgBox to inform the user what he must do to be able to close the workbook.
The macro must be on the Workbook's class module.

Oh, yeah, Save. You can do something similar with save. The macroname will be
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean)

End Sub

Hey all,

Well this place helped me write my first cmd script so i would like to share it with you all and hope you enjoy it.

This particular script allows you to back up selected files or folders from a client computer through to a server after answering a couple of questions.

Its a great script but unfortunantly i have no need for it as it does not meet our requirements any more (note i only wrote it last week ).

The script comes with a backup version, and a restore version... so the theory is that you can back up selected files and folders from one client to the server, then restore it from the server to a new client, all with simple prompts.

I have also commented throughout the batch file as much as i could so hopefully it should be fairly easy for any admin guys using it.

The items it backs up are:

My documents
All pst files on the system
NK2 file - outlook file that remembers email addresses when creating new email and entering email it automatically suggests previously used email addresses
Outlook signatures

Its easy to add extra things to this script aswell. Also it is fairly easy to create it to do all of the backups without any prompts...

basically this is a batch file that is simple, but i spend a day or so writing it, and im proud of my crappy script so if anyone can find any use for it please do try it.
(now i just have to work out how i upload it)...

Thank you and commends are definately welcome

I am logged in as administrator. I have previously entered scheduled tasks and all of them are running as scheduled. All the scheduled tasks are owned by administrator. Slide show is on the tool bar. I don't have a scanner or camera, so don't know if that would appear there as well.

But now i got XP and there i usually nothing under tasks its all under process's but when i try to shut them down i crash my pc. How do you shut down all that stuff and is lower CPU usage better than Higher CPU usage??

A:Solved: Shutting down background tasks

When in doubt, just google the process that's running and you'll find an answer quickly of what it is, and how vital it is.

CPU usage should be as low as possible -- however, do not try to close the System Idle process (which takes up 99% CPU most of the time), as this is an essential process that doesn't actually take away from performance, it just keeps the CPU busy during non-peak usage.

You can also download programmes to set what starts when windows loads, which will save you time having to close them all down. Can't think of any off the top of my head, though.

Hi! I've just recently built a rig for gaming. It's my first build and everything has gone perfectly until now.

Whenever I try to do certain things it completely freezes up. Can't move the cursor, open task manager, nothing. Dead. And it does not come back, I let it sit for 8 hours last night and nothing. It happens during (but not limited to) the following tasks:
- Downloading.
- Changing my screen resolution.
- Viewing certain sites (Tried to visit the Sapphire homepage).
- Moving some files from a USB to the hard drive.

The only thing I can think is that I have some old RAM in my PC right now that is currently just there until my Crucial Ballistic sticks come in. I removed two sticks (there's 4x2GB sticks) and I was immediately able to download Steam. Then I tried to download a game.. nada. Any ideas? Thank you guys!

Also when you "Right Click" a exe file or icon and you select "Run as Administrator", the Administrator account will be used for that program this one time.

Upon start/restart of infected computer, said computer would over-utilize CPU performance to the point that other software functions on the machine would not be able to reasonably initiate at startup.

In actuality, the malware was creating multiple IEXPLORE.exe instances running as background tasks. These instances were then creating randomly named .EXE (0 bytes) and .DLL (22K bytes) files. These files were located on the local HDD under the path C:\Documents and Settings\"Login Name"\Local Settings\Temp and had the filename prefix characteristics of "Tnnnnnnnn", where nnnnnnnn was a randomly generated number. These files were children of the background IEXPLORE.exe tasks and could not be deleted until the respective IEXPLORE.exe task was terminated from the Task Manager utility.

This malware had initially gone in and found all non-critical executable references in the machines HKLM and HKCU Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run registry keys. The malware then went into those directory locations for ALL executables found, created a .BAK subdirectory moved the real executables into the .BAK subdirectory and then replaced the original executables with a malware executable of the same name. Would any of you tell me what program you would use to take full-control over the services/programs you have running on Windows XP? There are complicated programs & services, which cause amatuer-administrators on Windows XP to get "Access Denied messages"whenever they try to disable services like RPC by using MSConfig.exe or Task Manager. Even when using the Component Services program (Dcomcnfg.exe), there are certain services, which do not allow you to stop, disable, or remove them from your Startup & Services-list.

I've already tried Autoruns, WinPatrol, and Task manager to kill programs & services, which continue to run without my permission. Online Amor is 1 of many programs like RPC, which does not allow end-users to disable or stop them from automatically, running.

So if any of you have any time, please name the program(s) you would use to have full-control of your Windows XP system so you can disable, unlock, and get rid of programs, files, & services, which become difficult to remove even if you have "admin privileges".

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Hello referee07;

Copy your .pst file from your old computer to the new one or your portable hard drive.

To launch the Outlook 2010 Export/Import wizard, first go to File menu, navigate to Open, and click Import.

In the Import And Export wizard, select Import from another program or file option and hit Next

Under File Type, select Outlook Data File(.pst) and hit Next

Now choose the file to import, select the options, and hit Next

Once done, finally select the folder to import from(if you want to import complete data don’t change any settings) and make sure Include subfolders is checked. You can either import the file to the current folder or choose the folder.

Hope this helps!

The Scythe fans sound like a tornado when I first turn on the computer but it gets quite once the bios and PSU start regulating them and you can't notice it when playing games or listening to music. I bought a generic filter for the intake fan and realized that it wasn't needed because the case already comes with filters that you just slide off and wash.

This was my first build ever and I must say I'm quite pleased with the results. The bios defaulted the memory at 800mhz 1.9v so I bump... Read more

I have a couple of Word 7 files which can't be moved, deleted or renamed. Any attempt results in a message: This action cannot be completed as it is in use by another program. It is not in use by any program I am aware of. When I open the file, it says (Read Only) in the title bar but the properties dialogue boxes are not checked as read only. Of course, I can't save any changes to the file unless I go to 'save as' but that still leaves me with an undeletable/uneditable file. I am using Vista Ultimate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:This action cannot be completed...

Unless you're particularly interested in the mechanics of why this might be happening, I'd suggest booting to safe mode (press the F8 key early during Windows startup) and moving or deleting the files from there. You probably won't have trouble deleting the files that way.

I did not get any replies so will try this again with updated info. Downloaded Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 October 2002 Update(EUU3) to computer but when tried to sync it to handheld got message: "Synchronization Cannot be Completed Successfully" and have not been able to sync since then. Same message and then disconnects. Have reinstalled Activesync twice..even going to older version. Have done disc cleanup and defrag. Have deleted recent programs including the EUU3. Also soft resert on handheld although problem developed in computer before could sync to there. There is no problem in connection of handheld with computer..just will not sync. Any help much appreciated as cannot download or sync any material to handheld(iPAQ3835) at all.
Thanks!!! John

Hi everyone!

Ive just completed my upgrade from an MSI 745 Ulta mobo and ATI Radeon 7000 series 64meg AGP x4 graphics card to an Abit NF7-S mobo and ATI Radeon 9550 AGP x8 256meg graphics card and I gotta say, boy what a difference.

Now I have to save up my pennies to get myself a better processor, I have an AMD Athlon XP Pro 2000 and was wondering what i should replace it with?

There's a fair ammount of choice out there so i was wondering if anyone has any recomendations?

A:Just completed an upgrade

Nice speed jump!
Upgrading always starts with budjet. If you are going to keep your Mb , then simply buy the best (fastest) CPU you can afford at the time.If you are saving pennies you will probably be able to get the quickest cpu your mb can handle.

Having successfully performed a 3 hour chkdsk by means of a downloaded microsoft program which did this automatically, the screen is left hanging and there is no option available to exit from it. I tried switching off and then on again but this just puts me back to the start of the chdsk routine which then completes again. So I'm stuck in a loop from which I can't escape !! What do you recommend ?

A:After chkdsk has completed

Hello ,

here is a shot in the dark

turn your system on & then back off

then un plug your system

them push your power button as if you wanted to start it and hold it for a count of 10

this will clear the compleat system of power and maybe reset way your system starts / you may want to reset the bios also by crossing the bios jumpers or just pulling the litheum battery from your mother board for at least 3 minutes

then try your system

you may be looking at wipeing the driver & reinstalling

have you tried to get into the recovery console useing the Windows XP cd ?

Good evening..i have just completed the combofix scan on my Openlabs Neko TSE. Which is my music workstation with a built in computer. Please can you review my log for further advice.? I really appreciate you for this. This workstation is the key to all my productions. I have been freaking out all night. Aloha!

Hello,That request about NOT posting CF logs is primarily to keep people from running the program unsupervised. Please read this topic: which explains that reasoning further. Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at step 6.Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Since you have run ComboFix, please include the ComboFix log in the new topic. If you cannot produce any of the other logs, then please create the new topic anyway, include the information that you were unable to produce the other logs and why and include the ComboFix log along with a description of your computer issues.Orange Blossom
