Solved: Microsoft. Word 2003 will not open files burned to cd

Q: Solved: Microsoft. Word 2003 will not open files burned to cd

I keep getting error messages when trying to open files created in Word 2003. The files burn to cd without a problem but when I try to open them off of the cd I get the file may be corrupt try to use recover text option or open and repair option. The odd thing is these word 2003 files open in Office xp without any issues. I have also got an error stating I do not have adminstrative rights on my cd drive. The cd drive is not a network shared drive so I am confused by this error. I have replaced the old cd-r/rw drive with a dvd r/rw and still get the same problems. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I have Windows XP purchased in 2005, and came with Microsoft Office.

I was using Microsoft word early this morning and something happened and now it won't open.

Of all my desktop icons, everything has color except the Microsoft is WHITE, which I suspected right away had been compromised.

I don't have any Microsoft word software, it came with my computer.

Help, can I get it back? I need to write some letters.

Thank you.

Hi, my problem is that when I was using Microsoft Word 2003, I reduced the font of one of the files I was working on and the entire file just transformed so that:
after every line, this symbol appears: ∂
before some lines, this symbol appears: ļ
and between words, this symbol appearsē

This actually happened before, but i, ah, don't remember how i got rid of it. I know it's kind of a small problem, but it's really driving me crazy.

Thanks.

I am using a computer in the office. There are two of us that use this computer, myself and my boss. Neither of us are really computer saavy, we understand the basics and thats about it. We only work in the office on rainy days, any other time we are outside. But we have been using Microsoft word 2003 for a few years and have never had a problem loading it until now. It takes up to 5 minutes sometimes to load the program. We are using Windows XP 2002 edition, service pack 3. The computer is a dell Dimension DM051 Intel (R) Pentium (R) D CPU 2.8GHz, 2.79 GHZ, 1.00GB of RAM. All our reports are in Word format and every time we open any report it is taking up to 5 min. to load. Is this a virus, spyware? I dont' think its the computer itself because we've never had a problem with this or any other program before. Any support or suggestions would greatly be appreciated thank you.

I recently purchased an ASUS Windows 8.1 64 bit computer.  I transferred my Microsoft Works Version 8.0 word processor and spreadsheet files from my old computer onto the new computer.  I just purchased the Microsoft Office 2013 Home and Student Edition (64 bit version) from an online vendor and installed the software onto my new computer.

I have no problems opening my Works spreadsheet files in Excel.  However, when I attempt to open a Works word processor file in Word, I get gibberish.  I did some research online and found out that there is a Microsoft tool called Works 6-9 Converter which allows one to open Works files in Word.

I downloaded the Works 6-9 Converter tool from the Microsoft Support website and installed it on my PC.  However, when I subsequently attempted to open a Works word processor file in Word, a dialog box appeared with the error message "Word cannot start the converter Wks9Pxy.cnv" and the file did not open properly (i.e., I got gibberish).

I did a little more research online and found out that uninstalling the Works 6-9 Converter, then downloading and installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package, and finally reinstalling the Works 6-9 Converter may correct this problem.  I followed these steps, but unfortunately when I attempt to open a Works word processor file in Word, I get the same error message and the file does not open properly. ... I'm getting the following error message when I attempt to open RTF files in certain locations on my computer: "Word cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges (location of file)". I found an article on microsoft.com about this error message and how it tends to come up when your anti-virus, especially Norton's, isn't up-to-date. Hi all -- I have read a lot about similar complaints, but the solutions
are not working. I have a new DELL XPS, and installed my copy of office
onto it. Whenever i double click a document (Word/Excel)The program
launches, but the document doesnt load. I HAD Norton A/V on the system
when it was delieverd, but i uninstalled it as soon as I got it. After
reading, I thought maybe the offiveav.dll was still registered from the
old antivirus install, but i cannot find the file when searching in my system,
including hidden files/directories.
So now i have no A/V scan, had AVG, which was requesting a virus scan
of the doc before loading -- I removed it, and the virus scan message
disappeared, but the document still doesnt load.
I reinstalled office and also tried deleting the normal.dot file and
ran word to create a new one. All have not given me a solution. Also did a repair from the help menu in word without help.
BTW from within Word/Excel i can go to the open menu, and open any file
without difficulty, but I cannot tolerate this problem. Anyone else
with a sililar problem and possibly a solution.
Thanks in advance.

I have a laptop with Windows 8 and Word 2003 installed.
When I double-click on a .doc file in File Explorer, a warning window comes up that asks whether or not I will allow a program to make changes to my computer. When I click yes, Word 2003 opens, but the file does not open. There is a warning message that says that there was a problem sending the command to the program.

If I try opening it directly from my documents folder without opening Microsoft Word Starter 2010 first, there's a popup that says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." Here is the thing: At my work, we have a shared document with a number of documents that about 15 people have to access. If one person is in the document, a message comes up that it is being used by another user and to press ok if we would like to make a copy. After hitting ok, the copy comes up. This does not result in a copy of the actual document after we close out.
To my point, recently, a number of PCs were upgraded. They are no longer able to make copies or to Read Only documents.
Tech support has been called a number of times, but they are not making any progress.
Does anyone have any ideas????

Hi,
I'm not sure when this started as I have not used Office in a few weeks.  My computer uses Windows 7.  Today, I went to open a document in Word and it said "File Conversion--Select the encoding that makes your document readable."  I can choose between Windows, MS-DOS, or other encoding.  I went to check another file and it says "The file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents."  It also says "The file is corrupt and cannot be opened."  I get the same kinds of messages with every document and with my PowerPoint as well.  All of my Office is 2007.
I tried running my AVG Free and SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition and they did not pick up anything.  I also tried restoring to my last update, but was told that I cannot because the file was changed in the process.  I had to restore for another, unrelated issue about a week ago and it worked fine.
I'm thinking this is some kind of virus but I have no idea how to handle it since nothing is picking it up and I can't restore to even three days ago.  Any help would be IMMENSELY appreciated, as I am a college student and need to be able to hand in final papers!
Thanks!

A:Cannot Open Microsoft Office Files; Word Docs Appear as Symbols

Update--I'm starting to think that one of my antiviruses cleaned out the virus because nothing is showing up, but my documents are still corrupted.  I deleted my normal.dotm file, and also scanned my C Drive for errors so I could revert to my backup from November 18, but everything is still corrupted.  I would like to know if 1) I got the virus, or if it is still lying dormant in my system somewhere; 2) if my computer is safe to use; and 3) if there is any way to get my documents back!
Thanks.

I haven't had Microsoft Office 2013 a week now and I already am having problems with opening documents that are in Microsoft Word's native format (docx). The problem lies within Windows and not word it seems. While the icon for docx files show the Word 2013 icon, it refuses to open with Microsoft Word 2013. Windows tells me that it does not know how to open docx files. It worked flawlessly since its install last Wednesday downloaded right from Office.com with the user name that was provided to me by KVCC, the college I attend. Office 2013 licenses are provided to all students as of 2016. Not even a week later, it is messing up. Word can still open .doc & .odt files but not docx files. Scroll down to "troubleshooting Word" and start at Step 3.

A corrupt "normal.dot" file will cause the type of issue that you have, reinstalling Word will not "fix" it.

I'm having a strange problem with Microsoft Word 2003 SP3.

It only happens on new docs. I'm a writer and when I open ongoing projects in Word everything is fine, but when I open a new doc. my Page Setup doesn't work. If I set it to have 1" of space top, bottom and sides, it doesn't work on the top. My first line starts at the very top of the page.

Also, the ruler up the left side should be dark where that top inch of space should be, but it isn't because it's not working. I discovered a temporary fix in Page Setup by setting the top space to be 2" and the sides and bottom to be 1". However, even doing this I don't get the dark inch or so at the top of my left margin ruler.

I did a repair in ADD Remove Programs but it didn't change anything. It might be a corruption in Word because I have the same Office 2003, SP3 on my laptop and I've compared all the settings on both computers and they appear to be identical.

Has anyone here run into this problem, and do you think uninstalling and reinstalling Office might solve the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Just recently something has changed with my Microsoft Office Word 2003 app.

I'm a writer and I have always been able to drag my pages that I have written today to a folder in My Documents and the same file would stay on my desktop for immediate access later. I realize other may not work this way but it is how I prefer to work as it has become my habit

When I try to drag and drop it now, it drops into the My Documents folder but it no longer remains on the desktop.

Now, in conjunction with this problem, I have another new problem, which is that when I write a page of text in Word and save it to a My Documents folder it doesn't go there. Also when I save a picture to My Pictures as I've always done it won't be there when I look for it. Something is preventing me from saving things and I haven't a clue what it is. I have to open the My Documents folder and drag the Word text page into it. It's the only way I can save stuff for some reason.

Can someone please tell me how I can fix this problem?

Thank you in advance.

Hello from first time poster here.

Word 2003 will not open files; I must open Word, then click on file via the Explorer interface, or click on the file and use "Open With" (Word) each time.

I have read many posts regarding Word xx not opening and the Normal.dot fix thing before posting this, and in fact have worked for years fixing other user's problems for a State agency. No joy, here.

Ann Troy's advice is great, and I followed what she said as well as my past experience, with negative results. I have:
1) Renamed all Normal.dot to Abnormal.dot, restarted the 'puter.
2) Done the Fix/Repair thing with MS Office 2003
3) Removed Word, Reinstalled with MS Office 2003
4) Completely Reinstalled MS Office 2003, then did the Normal.dot thing.
5) Cleaned out all instances of Normal.dot (both user profies and the MS
main template folder), rebooted (as with each operation above) and
then added in an old (previously working) Normal.dot file from an
archived and normally disconnected USB hard drive file.

Other Office apps - PPT, Excel, Access - all work perfectly. I use a standard McAfee Anti-virus application supplied by my ISP (Comcast).

Although I can get Word to work this crippled way, this is what I do for a living and it's killing me in time to have to hunt down each Word file instead of clicking on the shortcuts to just open them in Word.

This occurred overnight - last night. One minute everything worked; then an hour later I returned to the ... Read more

I have created in Microsoft Word 2003 on an XP OS some lengthy documents. I created them using a view setting of 150%.

I sent them to my employer, who is using Windows 98 and Microsoft Word 97. My boss opened them with his system and they displayed on the screen at a view of 200%. He wants me to send him Word documents that he can open from the CD-R that I send that will automatically display at 100% view on the screen so that he does not have to set the view for each document as it displays.

So what is the answer.

Is there a way that I can save my created documents so that when my boss gets them on a CD-R that they will open on his system at a view setting of 100%.

Is there also a way that his system can be set to default to 100% in reading from the CD-R.

My boss does not want to copy the documents to the system hard disk from my sent CD-R, preferring to read and copy directly from the CD-R that I send, so that the original documents will not accidentally be changed.

Any help would be appreciated.

I may have deleted something in the Add/Remove list... but I don't remember what it was.
Any help would be appreciated

Good afternoon people,

Firstly, I would like to say hello to everyone who've helped me in the past with my Access help. It's been a long absence with study commitments and such, but as is the purpose of this group, I would like to ask for some tech help:

The situation: Microsoft Word (as part of Office 2003 Professional Edition) frequently closes without user notification on my dad's laptop (Windows Vista Basic). It's recently started, and it interrupts his work. He says that the issue occurs when he minimises documents, but he didn't indicate a frequency of this occurrence. He also told me that once he successfully saves a document and closes Word, he then encounters issues when opening said document; it says that the file has been "corrupted" (I can't remember exactly what the dialog box says), and that the data can be recovered, or to proceed with opening the document. Data recovery doesn't work, and when he proceeds to open the document, Word returns "Program not responding" and "Critical error caused by the program" and other prompts of this nature, which then forces the program to quit.

I am aware that a similar problem is in the Microsoft Knowledge Base for Word 2003, but was last revised in 2004 (so covered only xp and 2000), and am not certain if this issue is the same for Windows Vista. It related to the "Handwriting Recognition" program.

Additionally, as always, there are a multitude of ... Read more

You got it save it as a Word Document in Open Office. If you opened it and then resaved it in Open Office it may have saved it as an Open Office file type instead of a Microsoft Word File Type. I know there is a way to make Open Office to default to saving as a Word Document. Just look thru the settings. So your first step to investigate is too see what file type OpenOffice is saving as by default.

when i try to open microsoft word the computer freezes. i found out about using wordpad instead, which is fine, and using wordpad does not make the computer freeze. i click on start, then on run, then type in wordpad. but someone recently sent me a microsoft word document as an attachment, and when i tried to open the attachment the computer froze again. so i sent that email to a friend who opened the attachment, then copied and pasted the contents in an email back to me.

is there a way i can access microsoft word documents without bothering my friend (in terms of copying and pasting in an email?).

what other information do you need in order to help me with this problem? i have windows 98. a friend uninstalled then reinstalled microsoft word, but it did not help.

thanx,

For some reason my Microsoft WORD isn't opening up.. When I click the icon the programs starts to open (by that I mean the 4"x4" square logo shows up) and then it stops there before opening up the whole page. Then It freezes up and I am unable to do anything else. I went to my documents and clicked a document there and the same thing happened. This is what I've done so far:
1. I did system restore and nothing was fixed.
2. I deleted WORD and Works and then reinstalled them. Still, nothing was fixed.
3. I deleted all "normal.dot" hidden files (I read about sweets problem with WORD and tried that). After trying that, WORD opened, but I was unable to open a document because it said at the bottom of the page "requesting virus scan". It goes no further than that.

I think the problem started after I downloaded a calendar template from the last Windows Office update newsletter.

Hello,

I'm having problems with all programs in Microsoft Office 2003. Here's the situation...

6 months ago I took a computer class which taught the use of Microsoft Office 2007 programs. As a part of the class, we got a trial version of Microsoft Office 2007, which is supposed to last for 180 days.

A few weeks ago the trial period ended and I could no longer use Office '07. I uninstalled the trial software and wanted to go back to using Office '03.

However, now whenever I try to start any program from Office '03, I get a message box telling me it's beginning some kind of installer. After a minute of this box, I get an error message saying:

"This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."

I downloaded and used the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility, but it didn't help. I can't run any of the Office programs, repair them using the installation CD, or even uninstall any of them. I'm running Windows XP Professional.

What are my options? Are there anyways to fix this problem?

I have two problems with Word 2003.

First, regardless of any changes made to a document, when I close the application I do not get a prompt asking if I want to save the changes.

Second, I cannot open more than one document at a time. If I have a document open, and I try to open a second document, it flashes the second document on the screen briefly and then closes it, leaving me with my first document open. There are no windows minimized to the taskbar, and there are no documents (other than the first document I opened) listed in the Window menu of Word.

I have installed all updates and service packs (both for Office 2003 and for Windows XP), and I am not using any 3rd party add-ins. I even tried uninstalling all Office related applications and reinstalling. No dice.

This has been going on for quite some time now, and I cannot find ANY information that seems to relate. I am begging for help here, so anything is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a user who has been using Word 2010 for a couple of weeks with no issues until this morning where she is no longer able to open word documents using either File-Open, Open on the quick access toolbar or CTRL O.

At present if you go to the file tab and select open - it goes back to the home tab but does not display the open file dialog box.

You can select an item from the recent file list and this will open, you can select a file in windows explorer and double click and it will open so the association is OK. But I cannot get the open dialog to appear in word.

Excel and other office programs are working fine it is only Word.

The user is using Windows 7, Microsoft office 2010 standard.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Office software but the problem has persisted.

I have been unable to 'google' my way through this one, so hopefully someone here can suggest a solution.

I've set my Folder Options to open .RTF files in WordPad. It now shows that WordPad is the selected program to open these files.

But whenever I double-click on a .RTF file, it always opens Microsoft Word (it doesn't even open the .RTF file -- it simply opens Microsoft Word with no document showing)!!! If find this very frustrating, because Microsoft Word takes too long to open (and once I open it, I then have to find the file and open it), whereas WordPad is pretty much instantaneous.

And, yes, I know I can select "Open With...", but I shouldn't have to do this. Can anyone tell me how to make the files open in the designated program???

There are a couple of ways you can do it. Go to Windows Explorer/View/Folder Options/File Types. Select Adobe Acrobat and associate it with .pdf files.

The easiest way would be to go Start/Find/Files and Folders and type *.*pdf and enter. You will get a list of the acrobat files on your computer. Highlight one of them. While holding down the shift key right click on it. Select ďOpen WithĒ and make sure the little box that says to always use this program to open this type of file is checked. Browse through until you find the Adobe Acrobat reader. Once you select that you will open all of your pdf files again in Acrobat rather than Word.

I'll try to make this as concise as I can:Problems/steps taken:- Running Windows XP SP 2/Office Pro 2003.- User noticed problem this morning; some corporate patches or updates may have been applied since yesterday (not sure).- Initially couldn't open Excel files by any method. Excel would hang and the task would have to be ended.- Used Add/Remove Programs on Office 2003 and chose Repair. Didn't notice a change. Then did Change on Office components and unchecked Excel to remove it. Later re-checked Excel to put it back on.- Noticed that I could now open Excel files by double-clicking on them or opening from recent Excel files list. File | Open or toolbar Open button still make Excel hang.- Also noticed that Save As command from the file menu (or the toolbar, if you add a toolbar Save As button) also makes Excel hang.Notes:- There are no files in XLSTART under the Office11 folder or the user's profile. There are no .xlb (customized toolbar) files on the system. There are also no Add-ins running and never were.- Running Filemon.exe (from Sysinternals.com) shows that several files are not found as Excel tries to Open or Save As, but I'm not sure I see any unfound files that should make any difference. It keeps looking for shell32.dll repeatedly after it's already been found in C:\Windows\system32, where the file does reside.--------SOLUTION (my boss found this, and it worked):This was caused by a recent Microsoft patch. I have a friend how has a problem with Word 2003. It could be happening in Excel and PowerPoint, but she doesnít use those so we donít know.

Word opens fine, and if you find a file you want to open through My Computer or Windows Explorer, and you double-click it the file opens quickly.

However, if you attempt to open a document through the following method you run into a problem. If you open Word, click the Open button or go File >> Open, and than click the Look in: drop down arrow to browse to a different location it takes between 7 and 10 seconds for the menu to drop down. This happens every time when you first attempt to do this after opening Word. If I leave Word open and do it again itís fine (if I remember correctly).

The problem persists, however, as I choose a new drive to look at and begin double-clicking on folders to open them. Iíll get a 7 to 10 second delay attempting to open some folders, and virtually no delay when attempting to open others. For the most part, however, there is a delay. Just like I stated above with the Look in: drop down menu, however, once Iíve gone into a folder this way it opens up very quickly from that point on, as long as I donít close Word. If I close Word the problems start up again.

I tried a number of things to resolve the issue. I started Word in safe mode and that didnít work. I tried turning off DDE something or other by going Control Panel >> Folder Options >> File Types, choosing DOC, clicking Advan... Read more

A:Solved: Open office files all turned into word docs! Help!

Hi Roy,

most likely what has happened is that Windows has somehow assigned ODT files to Word.

First, check whether the extensions of the files are still ODT. For this you need to switch off the option "Hide extensions for known file types" in the Folder Options of Windows Explorer (Tools, Folder Options, View). You can now see whether the files have a .ODT or a .DOC extension.

If they are still .ODT, do a right-click on one of them while holding the Shift key and choose "Open With...". Now you check the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box and locate "swriter" in the list above. If swriter is not there, you'll need to click on Browse and locate it on your hard disc, probably in C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org\program\

After doing this, .ODT files will always be opened by OpenOffice.org, and the icon will also change accordingly.

If the file extensions are actually .DOC, and you don't use Office, you can use the same trick to assign .DOC files to OpenOffice. Then when you modify one of these .DOC files, don't just Save them, but use "Save As" to save them as .ODT files.

All this is assuming you use Windows XP... I don't know how assigning file types works in Vista...

A:[SOLVED] Can't open Word or Excel files from Explorer window

You probably need to set the file assocations.

If you go into your Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types (tab), then scroll down until you locate those file extensions (.doc, .xls, etc...).

Alternatively, there is probably somewhere in Microsoft word, or excel where you can automatically set file associations, but it would depend on which version you have.

With Word, I have words that i use that are correct, but it keeps underlining them in red and i know you can add the words into its dictionary so that this doesn't happen for those words anymore. I forgot on where you do it, i know i should know as i've been using word since Office '95. I just always click on ignore. Someone did tell me once, but i need my memory refreshed.

A:Microsoft Word 2003 - Need Help

The easiest way I found was to run spell check and when the pop up dialog box appears on words not in Word's dictionary( red squigglies) , there is an option to ignore, change, etc., or "add to dictionary". It is there that I make a decision whether to add or not, and I add it to the general dictionary. Check the HELP to determine how to set up a *special* dictionary, if that is what you want to do, just for these words.
Hope this helps.

Hum.. You want to insert a mathematical expression in your text? Or do you want Word to calculate a quare root for you?

In case of the former, you have to install an Office component called Equation Editor.
If you have that, then you can do Insert->Object->Create New->Microsoft Equation

Otherwise, you can always draw the formula in Paint and then copy-paste to Word

I assume this is some sort of TOGGLE.

I had been trying to turn OFF the damned automatic text replacement buttons, etc (as when a word should be capped or is spelled wrong).

Apparently, I tossed these BOTTONs out--or more likely toggeled them off.

Any help Most Appreciated.

THANKS

Hi Guys

i'm running windows xp, i'm having trouble opening certain e-mails, when i open one sometimes a blue Microsoft Word screen comes out in the background, you know like if i was going to write a letter, and then i get a window that states " The Command cannot be performed theres a dialog box open, close the box and continue ' but when i close it i get another window asking me for my 25 product key which i found and i type it in with caps or no caps and i get a window that states i put in the wrong product key, i can finally open the email opening it with Note Pad, but still i think i might have future problems with this product key thing is there anything i can do, like maybe download Microsoft Word ?? i'm totally lost here, any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Microsoft Word 2003 !!!!!!

You have to type in the product key exactly as it appears. It is case sensitive and make sure that you type a 1 for number and l for letter, same for 0 number and O capital letter.

I have MS Word 2003 sp3 working on Windows XP sp3, and when opening a document based in a template with some macros, MS Word return an error: "Could not open 'http://**********/*****.dot' ".
The path given on the error description does not exist, but the template does exist in my template directory "D:\MSWord\Templates" and this path is configured in "file locations" of the Word options in "User templates" and in "Workgroup templates".
Ivan so, after selecting 'OK' in the error window, word could effectively open the document?
Someone Know why this happens and how can I avoid this boring error window all the times the document is opened.
Thanks,

I have a new laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed. I'm running Microsoft Office 2003 and want to change the normal.dot file, but I can't get at it. Windows Explorer tells me it's at C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\normal.dot, but I don't see andy AppData in the Users\Owner display. Currently to open a Word file, I basically go through C - Users - Owner - My Documents - WORD.DOC

I have similar ACCESS.DOC, EXCEL.DOC, PDF.DOC, PPT.DOC folders in My Documents to get into files for those Microsoft Office programs.

A:Normal.dot in Microsoft Word 2003

In Explorer go to Tools menu, Folder Options, View, then make sure to enable Show Hidden Files Folders and Drives.

Otherwise you wont' see AppData.

Also select to Set all Folders with those settings.

Hi, I've been having this problem with MS Word 2003 for a little bit.

What happens is, I open the application, and the Word box pops up like it's about to open like it should, but then it takes forever to open, maybe over 10 minutes or so, unless I just end the process like I usually do since it takes so long.

The only thing I've noticed different about anything when I open it is, Navw32.exe starts running, and if i end that, an alert window opens that says "The document C:\Documents and Settings\David Solis\Application Data\Microsoft\Normal\Templates.dot is still infected. Do you want to delete this file?". I'll click no, and Word opens.

Any idea what any of this is, why it's doing it, and how to stop it? Thanks!

Dave

Hi there,

I asked a similar question before in that it involved Microsoft Word 2003; and I have another in a related vein now. Is it okay/or safe to have 100 and more pictures in one .doc file? I don?t mean that the pictures here are ?as-is? -- in other words, big pictures -- but they are in fact shrunken down in the document ? sort-of like small stills, lined up. Is this okay to do?

A:Care with using Microsoft Word 2003

I don't see why there would be ay issues having that many images in one file.
At least if anything, it would be up to the computer, not MS Word, MS Word is made for large documents, if required in the office.

I bought a new Dell XPS 420 with Microsoft Works Plus 2003 preinstalled. Everything works fine except Word 2003. Certain things I try to do take forever. For instance, trying to insert a chart, print anything, copy and paste something into Word, and several other things can take 60 seconds or more to load. During this time, the program is basically froze until it completes. If I try to close it, I get the ever present ?program not responding? message.
I've tried uninstall/reinstall and ran ? repair Word?. Nothing seems to help. I downloaded the trial version of Word 2007 just to see if it would work, and it worked fine.
I'm running Vista Home Premium 64bit.
If anybody has any ideas, I would appreciate it. System Info below.

Hey,

I have a problem where Word 2003 crashes when I open a document, especially if that document is an email attachment, or something I havn't authored, it happens about 95% of the time. It usually freezes and i can't type, or use my mouse on the page, i usually have to right click on the window bar to close the window. It then pops up a window that I have chosen to close the unresponsive program and asks me to send notification to microsoft. I have dloaded all the latest security packs etc., checked the msoft website, visrus checked and run the office recovery software as well and havn't had any luck in fixing the problem.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

In the old microsoft word, when you had more than one document open, they would all use the same window, and minimize within itself. However I now have 2003 and when I open a new document, they are completly seperate windows and use two buttons on the task bar. I liked having all my documents open in the same program that i can control with the x in the corner. This is hard to explain so i Hope you know what i am talking about. I know it is possible to change this setting because ive used antoher computer where it has done this. I just can not find it in the options or anywhere I have looked. Any help would be appriciated. Even maybe a term i could use to look for it. THank you

A:Microsoft word 2003 question

In Word 2002 (XP version) you can go to Tools > Options, click on the View tab and clear the checkbox labeled "Windows in Taskbar". According to the Word Help, this will force all Word document windows to be represented by a single button on the taskbar. Word 2003 should be similar.

I have never had a problem with Microsoft Word until now. I can use Word fine on my computer. In the past week or so, however, when I send Microsoft Word documents to people, sometimes they say they can open them and sometimes they say they can’t open them. It depends on the person. On some of my e-mail clients (I have multiple e-mail accounts), I can open the files I send myself (i.e. I will send an e-mail to my multiple e-mail accounts and I will attach Word documents to that e-mail. On some clients I can open the files I send myself, and others I can’t...I did a check disk /r (checkdisk repair) on March 9 and it fixed the problem. I could send Word documents and everyone could download them and I could send Word documents to myself and download them via AOL Mail, Yahoo, and everything. And then the problem came back again. When I click on the file in the mail client that doesn’t read the documents correctly, the attachment comes up as saying that the mail client interprets the .doc file as being related to Notepad (specifically listing Notepad as the program it wants to open the file in), not Word. Then when I try to open it (either straight from the e-mail or after downloading the file back to my hard drive), it tries to open in word and gives me the converter message. When it was working for a little while on March 9, the way I knew a Word document would work correctly even before trying to open a file is that AOL.com Mail would list it as being a Word doc... A:Microsoft Word 2003 nightmare

I haven't read nor absorbed your entire message.
There's one thing that comes to mind immediately - your clients may have slightly different Word. If they have 2007, you need to send them the 2007 version or have them open as previous version (if possible).

Long ago there was an office update which added some sort of converter to my Office2003. Perhaps if you save as some other than 2003 .doc it would work. That update permitted me to open a document or two someone sent me.

Edited: what is one supposed to do with that megaupload site? All I see to pay lots of UK currency. I'm willing to try to open your
files in my Office2003 but not under those conditions.

do a search on your system for normal.dot and when you find it, rename it to normal.old

try to open Word

if it works, and you have no macros or personal changes made to your normal.dot, then simply delete normal.old

I have 'Microsoft Office Word 2003' on my old computer and I wanted to place the program on my new computer except that I can't find the cd.

My Question:

Is there a command that I can use, say in the "run" program to transfer all the files of 'Microsoft Office Word 2003' of to a thumb drive and transfer the 'Microsoft Office Word 2003' to my new machine?

I have Windows XP and Microsoft Word 2003. I am trying to print a greeting card for the first time. The card size unfolded is 7 1/2 by 11. Once folded it wll be 71/2 by 5 1/2. When I choose print, I get the message "The margins of section 1 are outside the printable area of the page". I don't understand what section 1 is. I've moved the margins and I still get the same error.
