Stop Date updating itself in old Word Docs.

Q: Stop Date updating itself in old Word Docs.

Hi

I use the Word short-cut icon 'Insert Date' when I create a new letter. I DO NOT TICK the update automatically box within the shortcut.

The problem is ...if I want to pull up this letter in say 6 months time and re-print it - the letter opens with the current date rather than the original date of writing. Therefore - I have no real proof that this letter was written 6 months ago unless I kept a hard-copy!

I particularly find this annoying when dealing with contract letters. So lately I have been using the basic version of a date by manually typing in 23/11/2008 rather than the fancy Sunday, 23rd November 2008 as the former stays constant.

Any cures for me?????

I receive periodic Word (.rtf) documents from a property rental agency whenever my property is rented. The document contains the dates rented, the renter's name, etc. There is a "date field" in each document which automatically shows today's date, rather than the date the doc was created and sent to me. If I want to forward the doc to the renter a week later how do I stop the date from updating when I send it and stop it from updating when the renter opens the file?

Hi Guys - I'm new to this site and not very tech savvy or sure of which forum topic to post this under. If I'm not posting under the right topic please let me know which topic thread would be more suitable.

I run Word 2007 on Windows 7. I recently had a virus hide all my documents and programs - the virus has been removed but it has changed things around.

I cannot open the word documents I have stored in My Docs. All the icons next to the name of the word files are showing up as a little orange page - when I click on the file name, a Microsoft Office 2010 window comes up which says "The Microsoft Office Product needed to open this file is not installed on your computer". And then it has the invitation to purchase Office 2010.
Does anyone know what's going on here with this and know how I can rectify this & change this back somehow so I can open & read these docs in Word 2007 again?

I can open Word 2007 and make a new document and save it but if I go to open it again it has been converted into this other file with the orange page icon and I cannot open it.

(I can open & save in wordpad - the wordpad doc can be saved in My Docs and it will reopen so I can read it again. Also my music, picture and video files all open ok.)

Hi Guys
I am new to this forum and not very technical minded so please bear with me.

I have a monitoring spreadsheet through which i monitor c40 word docs. The biggest issue i face is that these words docs have a box with an expiry date on it. I normally have to open each word doc every week and update the date to current date. Then i go back in spreadsheet and manually update a column which has conditional formatting and goes red to alert me. For my purpose i will have the same date in all word files

WHat i want to achieve is to have a button in my excel file which when pressed updates the date in all word docs to current date. Word files will be closed during the update

I hope i am making sense

Thanking yo uin advance

I have a folder of documents created on Word perfect X4 that I need to convert to Word 2003. I have Word 2007 but have found that some with older Word versions (before docx) have trouble opening them.

I tried the Word batch conversion utility in the program but the docs came out garbled. This would save me a lot of time.

thanks!

A:Need to batch convert Word perfect X4 docs to Word 2003

It is not the conversion that is the problem, you need to make sure that Word 2007 is set to Save As "Word 97-2003" documents to be the default.

I have installed MS Office Home and Student 2007 on my Dell Inspiron 1720 running Vista Home Premium. Previously I used MS Works that came pre-installed any e-mail with a Word attachment just opened when I clicked it.
Now when I get e-mails with any Word attachments I am unable to open the attachments without first saving them to the desk top, then opening Word 2007, then opening the document from the Word 2007 menu.
Similarly with all my old documents I have to go through the same long winded procedure to open them
Is there a simple way to cure this??. I'm not a tech whizz but if the cure is simple I can give it a go

Hi

Here is a strange one. I have Microsoft Word 2000 on a computer running Windows XP SP3. I just began having a problem opening documents directly in Word. The documents will open but they are not right. For example, I have a document that is passworded out. Within Word, the document will open, but it does not ask for a password, and the contents of the document come up scrambled. Here is an excerpt of what it looks like:

+??+???7k'?p%V9
q|?F
t?Uzjikvn?nnU
b*79g?CAg?
t???c\0B?~I?_sD
l%*~tL
T,?*O?>.???l?C?
Ab/hA>[S?

This goes on for 20 pages.

However, if I go into Windows Explorer and open the document by double clicking on it there, it correctly asks for the password and opens fine. Weird, no?

I tried opening other documents from Word that do not have passwords. They open, but the documents include a bunch of formatting instructions that usually remain hidden. But from Windows Explorer they open fine. Here is an example:

Document opened with Windows Explorer

Blair
Brody
Bryce
EVAN: English form of Welsh Iefan, meaning "God is gracious."
Lucas
Quentin

Same document opened from within Word:

So far, I found a software that is able to change this called 'Attribute Changer' but it only changes the date modified in the folder and, when you go into the actual word application > file > info, the date created and modified are not changed. I am not using Windows Live so I am not 100% sure why that is occurring, but why don't you just send the mail from Word directly?

I presume that as you are using Word you have Outlook as well. Configure Outlook with your Live settings http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...218231033.aspx.

Clicking on the "Office Orb" in Word gives you the option to then send your mail/document/whatever directly from there. Would it not be a lot easier than importing the document every time?

If I click OPEN or SAVE AS, etc.

It "jumps" into the middle of the files in the box.

It comes up with the A, B, etc. files but then jumps over so the E,F,G files are on the left side.

If I want files starting with the beginning of the alphebet (and seems like I have more of them there) I have to scroll BACK to the left to get to them.

Not a big deal, but I'm wondering if there's a way to get it to come up and stop with the A, B, etc. on the left, instead of jumping into the middle of the file box.

Maybe I accidentally set it like that and didn't know it.

Thanks,
Carrie

I use Windows XP on my desk top PC. The scanner is a HP Scanjet 3300C.

About 3 days ago a problem has arisen with opening scanned Word documents.

Normally I would be able to double left click, or single right click and click Open, to open scanned documents. This applies to recently scanned docs and ones scanned months ago. Something has now changed.

I cannot open them with a double left click or a right click plus Open. I can only open them by a right click on the file and then a left click on preview in the menu.

The drop down menu brought up by a right click now has "Open with ACDSee" instead of "Open" and "Print with ACDSee" instead of "Print".

I imagine that I have inadvertently pressed something somewhere to create this problem but I have no idea what. Please can anybody advise me: a) how to stop it for future scanning and b) how to remove it from existing scanned docs?

Many Thanks in anticipation, Geof.

Can anyone recommend a good tool for converting Word (2007) documents to PDFs?

I have PrimoPDF. It works pretty well, but it cannot handle equations.

I also have Acrobat, but it screws many of my Word settings and it also has trouble with equations.

It doesn't have to be freeware, but I'd prefer to keep it around $50 or less.

Thanks for any suggestions.

A:Best way to convert Word docs to PDF

When you say you have Acrobat, do you mean you are using the Word 2007 ad-on or using Acrobat Reader? If the ad-on is not working for you, I hear good things about CutePDF but I have never personally used it. CutePDF works off your print option. If you are looking for a stand alone client, check out PDFCreator. Do you have a aversion to free-ware? I don't know many pay options because I am poor.

A:Can't print word docs

Make sure that you have a printer selected at the time.

Its also possible that a corrupted Normal.dot file can cause this, and any document that you create will use this as a template.

Find and delete any instances of Normal.dot (you must have at least 1, if you cannot find any then its more to do with the search preferences, as it may be a hidden or system file)

Word will create a new file when it first runs.

It may not fix any older documents you have created but copying and pasting the contents to a new document may help after deleting Normal.dot

Does a person have to keep documents that look like this:
WRL0164.tmp

There is about 25 of them located in Documents

They appear to be duplicates of real working docs that I have in MS Word. If I delete them will my MS Word docs still open and can I still work in them?.

I really cannot afford to delete them if MS Word needs them to function correctly.

When I open the tmp. docs they look just like the originals, and I can work in the tmp. docs just like I work in the real MS Word docs.

A:tmp.docs MS Word can I delete

Word does that in case a mistake is made in the original so that you can revert to a prior save.

The easiest way to determine is it is safe to delete a file is to rename it.
If after a day or so there are no troubles then it is safe to delete.

Ahoy-hoy,

Trying to figure out a solution to this problem...

When working with Word documents that are fairly large (containing many pretty tables and graphs), I cannot save (it tells me to try closing other applications, even though I don't have any others running).

This happened the other day with a Word file that was approximately 40 MB.

Machine has 256 MB of RAM, 24GB free HD space, running Microsoft Office 2000....

I know that upgrading the amount of RAM might help solve the problem (go up to 512 or something), but before I do that, I was wondering if there were any settings that I could tweak or alter that might alleviate this problem?

I don't really like the idea of customizing the size of the paging file (rather leave it as Windows has set it).

Let me know if you have any thoughts/ideas.

Thanks

open windows explorer and click on tools>folder options. then select the 'file types' tab and scroll down to .DOC file extension. highlight it and select the 'change...' button. it will then open a second dialogue box to select the program to open it with. word should be there under recommended programs, but you can browse to the word.exe file if it's not listed.

How may times have you used the cd?
I would advise using a new CD every time and just copy the new files required.
When you have quite a few cd`s transfer them onto a new cd or dvd if required.

Not sure how to go about this. I am not a programmer by any means but need to make a program.

I have a text file that is in what is called BAI format (bank standard format to send info). Basically this is a CSV file with a header. Right now I use a mail merge file to update the date field. I am looking to automate this so I would only need one "dummy" file and have a program that will update the date field automatically. The file is opened with notepad. I have done some VB but not a lot. I am looking for the best way to go about doing this. I tried to get some of the programmers to do it but no one wants to worry about supporting it, so I am taking a crack at it.

All help is very much appreciated. One idea I had is maybe a macro in excel but not sure if it would mess up the formating. I will try to get a copy of the file I use and post it.

Hi

I am currently using Windows Xp Pro and I wondered is there a way I can stop a program from sending documents to my printer. I will explain more below.

At the moment at work I use a programm called TCAT and every time I make a change in that program and exit a booking it sends a print out to the printer that we do not need. 90% off the paper used at my works printer is this useless print out that eventually gets put in the recycle bin.

Is their a way I can tell windows Xp not to print when I make a correction/change in TCAT or is this only something that the makers of the software I use can do which is a company called Comtec.

P.s. I need the software to have a printer assigned to it as it will crash or a bug report will run if no printer is assigned. Is there a way to assign a non existant printer or a virtual one or something.

Thanks

Terry

What I need to do is:
1. Take a word template (master) and copy it to the top of each of 1500+ word docs that already exist.
2. Once done will copy the whole set to a new location that we need to move our repository of these 'jobdocs'.

Currently my set of jobdocs is in one location...and once done, the new docs will be copied to a new location.. and we will zip/archive the original jobdocs ..

I have spent that last 2 days reading the posts here and various online, whitepapers, and recovery docs from "leading" software / document recovery tools. Nothing is working but I still do not believe all is lost. Yes, my bad for not having a backup - that aside...

I had a workstation at my office that got infected. The employee was saving her Word 2010 docx's to her "My documents" folder instead of the "data drive". A "g-squad" type person came out, told me it could not be disinfected so he wiped the system and reloaded Win7. Not sure how he "wiped" it but I imagine he just deleted the partition on Win7 reload. I freaked when I saw he didnt backup the docs in the my doc folder before he reloaded, and he told me that was MY fault for not backing up...

He popped in a CD and

Hi

I have a shared folder on the network with Word (2003) documents used for mail merge letters.

Recently one user went through updated the signature line on all the documents, plus changed the page setup so that the first page always prints on letterhead.

All the users have the same default printer including the one who updated the documents.

When the user who did the updates, opens the documents, they all default to letterhead for the first page. But when I open these same documents on any other user's computer, they all default "heavy glossy."

I was under the impression that the page setup was saved in the Word document itself. I tried recreating the normal.dot on one of the computers, but that didn't make a difference.

I double checked that the user who did the updating was working in the shared folder, on those same documents. The changes to the text show up and all.

Now if I open the shared folder as another user, I can go through and save the page setup with the correct default paper type, but I'd have to do that for each user, for 50 -75 documents. Just trying to avoid that.

Any ideas?

thanks

I have a Word doc that is a table consisting of family mmebers addresses, email addresses, birthdays, etc. I used to be able to simply attach the file to an email and send it to as many as 25 recipients without a problem. Now when I send it, nobody even receives the email. I can send any other type of word doc attachement without a problem. I thought maybe the file was corrupted so I created an entirely new document with table. The same thing happens- nobody even receives the email. I use Outlook Express (8) and Word 2002.

A:can't email Word docs that have tables in them

If the Email is not bouncing back to you then it is being received. But it may be in their junk mail folders. Also their Email program may be blocking Emails with attachments that include executable s. Try zipping the document before sending.

Hi,
I am not able to access "word" at all.
I can not use it for my own personal projects and I cannot open any word documents such as "email attachments" .
Even when I try to click Microsoft word on my start up menu, programs ect..
I always get the same response which is a dialog box saying " installing windows" . Then another box opens and says "windows was not able to install because a dialog box is open. Please close and try again".
It does this every single time I try to read a word doc.
I went to fed-ex and was able to retrieve my "word doc." attachments contained in my emails, NO PROBLEM.
Any information would be helpful.
THANK YOU, mj

When did the problem first start? If you enabled system restore you could roll back to a previous recovery point.

What version of Microsoft Office do you have?

There is an option to run a repair on the office installation or some versions have diagnostics you can run.

I had my desktop computer re-installed with xp and did not know that my word docs would be forever lost during the process. I am not a computer wiz at all, but there were so many important word documents for my work/college that never made it into my flash drive. So if there is any way that I could at least open these files it would be greatly appreciated!

A:HELP!!! Re-installed XP but need old word docs back!!!

If it was a Repair Install, there should be no issue. A New Install might be more problematic, however if there was a format, you need to stop using the PC immediately, because every read-write operation it performs degrades the chances of data recovery.

There's a "favorite" data recovery program here on TSF by most techs, but I've forgotten what it is. Keep bumping the thread if necessary. Someone will come along and give you the name of it.

Hi ive upgraded my PC & now use Win 10. My old MS word will not work with win 10.My question - Is it true that newer word versions will not open on older versions? I need to do a CV and if I'm sending it to potential employers / agencies that have the older version on win 7 or even vista / XP, they will not be able to read it?Is it better to then get the oldest version that works with win 10 i.e MS office 2010 to avoid this from happening?

Hi, Welcome to SF,

Did you upgrade from Word 2003 to Word 2007 or you remove and install word 2007 ?

The Steps you could try

1, Ran a Office diagnostic
2, Delete the Normal.dotm file ( Start %appdata% > Microsoft > Template > Delete all files under there ( Don't Shift delete them )

Hope this helps

Every now and then when i send a Word doc as an attachment to a client, they will say they recieve the document but when they open it it's blank. But not every time, its very random. It's weird i sent one yesterday to a co-worker, he got the doc but it was blank. so i sent the same doc to him a half-hour later and he got it and it opened just fine. What's up with that?

A:Blank Word Docs as Attatchment

Sometimes this will occur when the document in question is actually still 'open' on your computer and the cached version can be interfering.

Another option that this would be occuring is when it's trying to 'upload' your attachment file but it isn't given enough time to fully attach itself (most common with web-based e-mails).

Which e-mail client are you using to send the e-mails?

Okay, well I have noticed yet another problem, but first some background info.

I have my Cavalry CAUM 500GB External HDD connected to my WNDR37AV Netgear router, utilizing it's sole USB NAS port. It set up and ran perfectly... I had NO problems whatsoever with anything, until now.

I am having a major issue. Every single Word Document that I have stored on this drive is COMPLETELY blank, not even the "page" is displaying on them and all options are grayed out. This ONLY happens when I try to open/view them from this drive - the problem miraculously corrects itself when I drag and drop the file onto the Desktop and THEN open them (where they are perfectly fine, viewable and everything else).
What is going on here? I use Word Documents EXCLUSIVELY (can't stand WordPad/NotePad)... so it is very important to me that I be able to actually use them AND while they are stored on THIS drive (it is the only EHDD I have). It would be a real chore to have to keep dragging them out and putting them back in - not going there.

So... does this mean my drive is about to die? It isn't making any noise... doesn't have any other problems either! Please tell me there is a simple fix for this! Hell, I'll take a near-impossible fix if you've got one of those!
EDIT:

It tells me "This file could not be found" and lists it's directory path...

It is clearly there, the data has NOT been corrupted or otherwise destroyed...

When I drag these Word Documents off of the EHDD and ... Read more

A:External HDD - Word Docs BLANK!!!

My questions before we continue farther is:

I am running XP Pro/ Office 2003 on a Dell laptop with 2GB. System configuration has been stable (corporate machine) and have not made any huge changes lately. Several weeks ago Word documents began to take a minute to open, in the meantime the application from which they came (such an an Outlook email) freezes. Same holds true if I click on a URL link in an Outlook email- it takes a minute to display in the browser (Firefox current version). If I open a Word document from a Firefox download, FF will hang for the minute it takes to open.

My IT department has completely uninstalled Office, cleaned the registry, and reinstalled Office, but problems persist.

What else can I try to fix this issue?

Thank you very much for your help.

A:Word docs take 60 seconds to open

unfortunately, as it's a corporate machine, we can't really assist in that matter. You need to rely on your IT department to solve the issue.

One thing I would recommend is that you check the defragmentation status of the drive, and have your IT department use whatever application they use to clean out the temp files as well.

Hey guys. I could really use some help. I noticed when I booted up my laptop a few minutes ago that AVG failed to load. Furthermore, clicking on the icon does nothing. In addition, whenever I try to open a MS Word 2007 .docx file I get the following error msg - "The file ... is not available." (I looked up this issue and I don't think it has anything to do with Norton antivirus since I do not have or ever had Norton). However, I think that whatever is causing AVG not to run is also causing these documents not to load. I use my laptop for class and I have class tomorrow morning so I could really use some help. Thanks! Attached is a hi-jack this log.

NOTE: I tried system restore; it did nothing. AVG still fails to load at startup and Word docs still are found to be unavailable. I tried booting into safe mood and accessing documents--no luck there either.

Well, I don't know so much, but the same thing happened to me. It turned out that somehow, instead of just 'saving as', I had created a master/sub document relationship between all of the docs.

For example. an xp user tried opening a .docx file that was on a share. Word would crash... copied the file to the local machine, same thing crash. Another user using Win 7 was able to open the file no prob, as well as another xp user. I tried opening the file with my win 7 machine, the file will not open, crashes....

Hi everyone,

Since a few days, any new documents I compose in MS Word (version 10.0.4219) look fine on screen (also in print-preview), yet come out all garbled up with added smilies, special symbols, characters replaced by vertical lines; these characters&words then reappearing further down the pages; each page being printed out as at least four messed-up pages.
The same problem on both our home computers, which both print via a router: US Robotics 8022; the printer is Minolta PagePro8L.
Printing out of Outlook, also for recently received messages, is no problem. Printing any old Word docs is also no problem. Pasting material from the problem files into an old file does result in the same garbled printouts. System details for my laptop appear at the bottom.

I have tried the following:
1) resetting the router to factory settings
2) reinstalling the router and its printserver
2) reinstalling the printer driver (it has no XP driver, but the NT has always worked fine since first use of the router 6 months ago)
3) renaming normal.dot
4) scanning repeatedly with Symantec Antivirus corporate edition; Spyware blaster; AdAware 6

Things that may or may not be relevant:
1) A third computer is also connected to the router; just before the problem kicked in, I upgraded this PC from Me to XP and had to reconfigure it for the router; and meanwhile upgraded the router to its most recent available version (since then reset, cf. above)

Can someone tell me the rules around these temp docs that get created when you open/modify a file? Which of the 2 documents hold the changes...the original that you open or the duplicate file that starts with ~$?

Am I making sense!!!??

For example I open a file called Local.doc. Once that file is opened by me, a duplicate file that is semi transparent gets created called ~$Local.doc. What happens if someone deletes that ~$Local.doc while I am working in the original?

Thanks in advance

A:Temp Word docs that start with ~$

While the file is open, the ~ file should be locked and be unable to be deleted.

Hi. I have a problem that is causing much frustration, and I would sincerely be grateful for your help. I am an admin for a Windows SBS 2003 domain. I have a user who is running Vista Enterprise Edition, as well as Office Pro Plus 2007, and has been running both without any serious issues, until today...
The problem: The user opens up MS Word, creates a new document, and attempts to save it in My Documents. He gets an "Access Denied - contact your administrator" error. Also, if he goes into a previously saved Word document in My Documents, after opening it and making a change, when he attempts to save it, he gets the same error.
He is an administrator on his machine, and has disabled User Account Control weeks ago. To further troubleshoot, I had him log into an XP machine and access his My Documents, edit a file, copy/paste - and it worked fine, which leads me to believe there is something on his Vista machine that is causing the problem.
I double-checked our Group Policies and everything seems to be in order.

Can anyone give me any ideas of what I can try please? Thanks!

this tech-know-nuthin' desperately needs help from one of you technowizards...

it's taking over 2 minutes for any of my documents to open!

all was fine till i opened a document emailed from someone whose docs worked ok before... when i saved the latest one from that person to my desktop, it took forever to open and close... after that, all my own docs also took minutes to either open or close, as well...

i've:
deleted that doc and emptied the trash,
emptied my sent email file and trash stored on the puter,
dumped a huge number of files after saving them to a cd,
emptied the trash,
done a full norton scan and windoc repair 3x and an ad-aware scan/repair 3x,
restarted afterwards,
let it rest overnight,
but still have the prob...

my file folders and final draft program docs open as quickly as ever, but the windows docs take 2 minutes or more and it's driving me nuts!... and while they're trying to open, everything else either freezes or takes an age to work, as well...

another weird thing is that the doc page sent as an attachment that may have caused this didn't have a ruler showing and when i opened my own doc pages, the ruler had disappeared from all of them, too!... the only way i could get it back was to drag the ruler icon to my toolbar and click on it after opening the rulerless docs...

any suggestions?
love and fingers crossed hugs, maia

Hi all this is my first post on this website. Im posting because my mother cannot access some of her MS Word Documents. Ive posted up three different screens showing what happens. You can see on the bottom left of the first picture there is one Word document that will work, but the rest of them dont have the "Word" Icon appearing. Then when I open it, it asks me which program I want to open it in, I select "Word" and then it brings me to that weird "File conversion" screen. Any Idea of what is going on?
Thanks
Alex

Hi icefox and welcome to TSF

It seems that your files extensions have been changed so I would go to folder options, go to the View Tab, and uncheck hide known file extensions. Then go back to that folder and change all of them to .doc. See if this works

Hi there!

I bought a new computer today -- running Vista Home Premium (some notifications have suggested that they recommend installing 64-bit versions of software, so I assume it is 64-bit).

I had imaged the c: drive from my old xp laptop using Ultraiso onto my portable hard drive into an iso (split into several .isx files). I mounted it to onto the new computer and tried to open some JPEG, word & excel files that were in there and got a message saying that the file format is not supported or I don't have the latest updates. I've checked all the updates and they are up to date. The files all appear to be in the image - they just won't open. Any idea why this is happening?

Thanks in advance!

Hi. Just joined. I'm unable to open old word documents (i.e. Word 2000, Word 2003) on Vista's Word V. 9. Can anyone help.

Thanks

Could you post the error message you get? If you get one....it sounds like a compatability problem. I would take a look at this update, and see if maybe you need it, Im not the most tech savy to know if it would be what does work.

Best of luck to you

Assume I have 2 docs and I want to find out the changes between them.

The feature "Track changes" is not enabled and I don't want to enable it.

I just want a one-shot comparison.

In old Word 2003 there was a menu

Tools->Compare and Merge Documents....

Where EXACTLY is the corresponding menu in Word 2007

Thx
Peter

Having print problems on XP and now on XP2 with HP720C.
Printing from Office in Word 2003 is OK if it is in black and white. If colour is introduced the print fails either straight away or part way in.
Print test page in colur is OK.
Printing in colour off the internet is OK.
Any ideas please.

Greetings everyone!

Help! I'm working with a client who's having a problem with her fonts disappearing after she receives Word docs from me. Here's the text from her email I just received:

"When I opened your Word doc with the changes in it and started working with it, all of my font changes have been lost. I have this short list of font options now, whereas before I had a ton of them. Which version of Word are you working with and do you know what would have caused that? If I open ANY of my Word docs now, I don't have access to some of the fonts I previously used, because they don't show up as an option."

I don't a clue what the problem is. Any one know what's going on? Could it be we do have different versions of Word? Any suggestions, comments and feedback are greatly appreciated!

Kind regards,

Janet

A:Fonts disappear in Word docs?

Are you using a template for these documents?

"all of my font changes have been lost"
WHAT changes? She made changes to YOUR document and they're lost?

"short list of font options"
Sounds more to me like she picked a different printer.

I don't think this has anything at all to do with your document.

I use Word 2003 as I don't like Word 2010. Lately when I have tried to open an attached document from an email, Word opens, and its all greyed out. Can you tell me how to fix this please?

It also doesn't work with saved documents. They will open with 2010 if I am given the choice, but I prefer 2003. It has been working fine up till the last two days.

Windows 7 pro 64bit

MS word 2010 installed

I am changing out my HD in the desktop and want to move my word docs to the new HD. I can get them, only a couple dozen, to a thumb drive but I am seeing something on a few of the docs. As they are all listed I see a exclamation ! symbal within the W icon. This ! is in a yellow box. What is this and what does it mean. If I double click on these docs they will open in word and are editable. If they won't backup to a thumb drive I'll have to retype them before backing up. I don't want to do this unneccessarily so I'm asking here what to do

thanks

Whenever I Try to open a Word document store on the server Word flashes 2-3 times sometime freezes but most of the time takes 30-60 seconds to open the document. I have the same version office on the server and the Workstation. This really cuts down on productivity any help would be appreciated. Hardware has been ruled out.
