Making Word 2003 templates work in word 2007

Q: Making Word 2003 templates work in word 2007

At my work we have templates from Word 2003.

When we open them in Word 2007 they doesn´t work as they should.

We have for example a menu like

2 Electronics
2.1 Phones
2.1.1 Mobile phones

When you make an uppdate on the menu the sub-numbers disapear so it is
2 Electronics
Mobile phones

Also in 2003 you get a menu to the right where you can change in the list not only the types but also the numbering. Is there something like that in 2007?

A: Making Word 2003 templates work in word 2007

A couple of things.

Firstly here is an interactive guide for some of the features in 2003 - 2007. It is useful in some circumstances

In regards to using 2003 templates for 2007 - i noticed that not all things worked in the same way in 2007 especially when it came to printing (things would display differently to how they would print)

I work for a big company and i had to redesign alot of templates. Sorry.

In regards to changing the numbering, you now right click on one of the actual numbers within the document and you can change the numbering from there.

Hope that all makes sense.

Well i did a big report on my computer with Word Perfect i couldnt print it so i took to school on my flash drive. IN my first class i edited it on Word 2007 and in the class i could print it they had Word 2003 and i couldnt open my file and now i cant even open it in word perfect. I doubt i can use the laptops for a while anyway i can open this on wordperfect

A:Solved: Word Perfect- Word 2003 - word 2007

If you saved the file in the "new" Word 2007 format (with a file extension of .docx) then you will be unable to open it in the other applications.

For Word 2003 you can install a converter, but I know of no XLM converter for WordPerfect.

When using Word 2007 you need to "save as" Word 97-2003 format to retain backwards compatibility.

Morning all,

I'm trying to set up templates in Word 2007. Since the whole template thing seems to have changed (where has Normal gone?) I figured I'd start off by modifying the standard template. It gives some quick links at the top so you don't even need to customise your own buttons. Handy, I thought.

But every time I modify a style then specify that I want to be able to use the style in all new docs (Open styles dialogue from the Home section of the ribbon > Select desired style, e.g. Heading 1 > Modify > In Modify Styles dialogue, check "New Documents based on this template") I find that when I close the dialogue then re-open it, the selection has reverted to "Only in this document".

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what I can do to change this?

I use Outlook 2007 and Word 2007. I am trying to create a number of template letters that each include unique text and formatting so I can quickly send letters without re-typing text. I also want to be able to import addresses into these letters from Outlook so I do not have to re-type addresses. The mail merge wizard is really slow and I do not see how to save or access templates in the process. I can find bits and pieces of how to do this, but no clear path for creating exactly what I want. Please point me to a step-by-step guide for exactly what I need to do. Thanks!!

Windows Vista Home Premium SP1, Office 2007

I know how to save documents created in Word 2007 so it can be used with Word 2003 done manually.

Can someone inform me whether I can set my "save as" so documents created in Word 2007 will be always saved as default to be compatible with Word 2003?

A:Saving Documents Created in Word 2007 to be Compatible with Word 2003

You can us this compatibility update to read Office 2007 docs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) In earlier versions of Office - Download details: Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats. Meaning you can save your Word docs in their original format and Word 2003 will read them.

You might want to check this link out as well -

As far as setting a "default" save, to be honest, I'm not sure if this can be done or not.

Hope this helps.

This is what I did:

File / New
under templates I browsed through "Reports" category and selected "Report with Professional theme"

I've downloaded that template and I used only defined styles. There's a problem though on the first page: I want it to be completely clear but it has a solid 1px line at the bottom (maybe that's footer?)
I'm losing my mind trying to get rid of it with no luck. Can anyone suggest me how to get rid of it? I still want to use this template and all of its styles, and I've written way too much pages to transplant it in a new template.

This is how the solid line looks like:

I'm trying to print CD labels using the Avery 8691 template for Word 2007 and Vista. I used to be able to do this with Word 2003 and XP but something has changed. First, when importing a photograph, I can not make it exactly match up to cover the CD circle completely. I've shrunk it, expanded it, changed the format, changed the resolution etc. and am at my wit's end. It just keeps bouncing back to what appeared when I first pressed the 'insert' button.

Second, I've tried to put text on top of the photograph. I inserted it first, then the photo, but then the 'bring to front' option was not active so that didn't work. I inserted the photo first, but then can find no toggle (like in PageMaker) to create the text on top of it. I used to be able to do this too in Word 2003. I'd appreciate any help on these two problems!

I have several templates I need to save in Word 2007. I will be using these for my work at home job. The company sent the following instructions for downloading, opening and saving the templates:

Before you download a template from email:

Press Office button on far left
Press Word Options
Press Trust Center
Press Settings
Highlight: Disable all macros with notification
Check: Access to VBA (abbreviated?)

Then to download the template from email:

Right click mouse on attachment
Save As
On left OS© then on right there will be folders ? press:

(your name or whatever you have there)
Application Data

To open a template to create a document:

Open up Word
Click on the Office Word ? Office button?
Press New
My Template?then all your templates should be listed there
Double click on the template that you want to use

To SAVE as a document:

Office Button
Save As
Word 97/2003 document !!!!!!!!!! Do not save as a .dcx Always save as .doc
Save the template with Hotel code_date you called hotel_your initials

The titel of the instructions is "Vista Template Instructions". I do not have Vista. I have Windows XP. The company assured me the instructions were the same for my system since I am using Word 2007. But when I following the downloading instructions I have none of the options listed.

How can I save these templates in a folder on Word 2007?

All seems to work well except proofing in word 2007.  It defaults to a location called C;:\.......Microsoft/UProof, and I cannot change it to Microsoft/proof.  The file UProof does not seem to be on my computer.  I tried creating a new custom.dic, but it automatically defaults to UProof.  Is there any solution to this problem?   Thanks

A:problem running both word 2003 and word 2007 in XP PRO

Hi Esmo. For Word 2007, the Custom dictionary is actually stored within the UProof folder and Uproof should be there(earlier versions of Word used a different destination/folder called Proof). Uproof should be there (see below) and should contain your Custom.dic file. The UProof folder is located at: C:\Documents and Settings\*your user*\Application Data\Microsoft\UProofInside the folder called UProof is the Custom.DIC file, the file type of which is called Microsoft Office User Dictionary.dicFollow the path above to view the Uproof folder. To view what Word is using to proof, you should go to the Office Button, select ‘Word Options’ at the bottom.Select Proofing. I just started using Word 2007 and am having some difficulty adjusting to the changes. Unfortunately this is the software I am stuck with and no upgrade to 2010 is possible.

Specifically, I have created a lot of forms in Word 2003 by using text boxes to be filled by the user. I've also used links and references so that the user doesn't have to re-type some of the duplicated information throughout the form.

After creating these forms, I protected the documents and other people within my organization use them as templates. These forms need to be uniform throughout the department.

Several problems. I'm having a hard time familiarizing myself with Forms in Word 2007. Another issue, is that I can't get the Forms Spell Check to work like it did in Word 2003. I want my users to be able to check the protected portion of the document. They also need to be able to unprotect the document if they have to make some changes in the form.

It would be very helpful if there was a Word 2007 guide that explains the differences from word 2003 and offers an interactive training.

I'm desperate. Can you help me?

I have almost EXACTLY the same problem found in this thread:

The only difference is that I'm using Windows 7, not VIsta. I have tried to edit the registry as pointed out in post #66 of the above link but........ 1. "Word.Document.12" does not exist in the .doc folder
2. "Word.Document.12" in the .docx folder has a value of 0000
The .docx folder contains a file that reads: Word.Document.12 REG_NONE (zero-length binary value)

I'm pulling my hair out because ALL our old 2003 word docs will not associate with Word 2007. Excel and Powerpoint work fine. Opening these files the long way round is very painful and frustrating. Can anyone help please?

MS 2007 documents cannot be opened using MS Office 2003.

You can either get yourself a newer copy of MS Office or download and install a copy of Libre Office which will open all MS Office documents.

Libre Office is free, unlike MS Office.

Hello experts!

I have Windows XP Home Edition and Word 2003. My problem is in accessing certain templates and wizards directly through the Word program. For certain ones, like Calendar Wizard, when I try to use it via the Template Dialogue box in Word, I get the error message: 'Windows Installer Error 1635'.

The Calendar Wizard is installed on my computer, because if I go to Windows Explorer and open it directly from there, I don't have any problems. I just can't access it directly from the Word program itself.

It's as if Word 2003 and the actual wizard file are not communicating. I read somewhere in the documentation that Word 2003 only installs the template/wizard the first time one uses it. However, it seems my Windows Installer doesn't want to do it!

I have all the latest updates for Win XP in general (i.e. SP2), but I have never updated my MS Office software. I saw something on the Microsoft website about service packs for that too, but I am afraid to mess around with it any more.

Help!!! Any suggestions? I would be most grateful! I am in the middle of an online Word course, and my final exam is coming up in a very short time!

Thanks so very much,

Don't mind the curious ones, but I'm one of them. So anyway, almost one year ago now, the Word macro virus W97M/Marker.C was running rampant around Gordon College, with many teachers and students alike being infected. I was even infected with it thanks to one of my professors posting an assignment description document that had it. I was running AVG 9.0 at the time, and it was flagged many a time over. I think there were like six or so instances. My memory may be flaky, as my laptop has undergone many reformats since then, but what I do remember is trying to ignore AVG's warning, due to the fact that AVG has given me many false positives when I used it. The message Word gave me was that the document couldn't be opened because it wasn't available. But the strange part of that is that AVG had not removed anything from the file. I can think of two reasons why the file wouldn't run with the virus in it. Tell me which, if either, is correct. One is that Microsoft has since changed the macro format from 2003 and earlier versions of Word simply due to the many viruses that once existed for it, or two, that message was a very convoluted way of telling me that Windows 7 no longer supports Virtual device Drivers (*.vxd) as I was able to open the file after it had been cleaned up by Eset NOD32. Any knowledge you folks have would be very interesting, as I have always been curious about the very odd weekend of February 12, 2010. Now don't get me ... Read more

A:random curiosity about MS Word macro viruses and why (thank the Lord), they don't work in Word 2007/2010

I don't know the particulars of the macro virus you mention, but with Microsoft Office 2003, a significant change was implemented that effectively stopped the propagation of macro viruses.

Prior to Office 2003, macros were enabled by default, and opening a document with macros and auto-execute meant the macros were automatically executed (and thus the virus could infect and propagate).

With Office 2003, macro security was introduced. With a Microsoft Office 2003 default install, macros need to be signed with a certificate issued by a trusted root CA. Macros that are not signed will not be executed. Users have to explicitly lower the macro security level for unsigned macros to execute. Almost all macro viruses were unsigned.

In my Word 2003 program, when I click on File/New, on the right hand side of the window it lists four "Recently Used" templates. Three of these four refer to layouts of my letterheads of my previous home address, so are no longer of use. If I click on any of them, I get the error message "Word is unable to read this document, it may be corrupt". As I obviously have no further use for these three, (they having been deleted) I wonder if there is a way that I can remove them from that list of "Recently Use Templates", therefore only showing my current one. I have a one year old Toshiba Touch Screen, running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office Pro 2003. I am protected by AVG Premium Security: anti virus, link scanner, email protection, firewall, identity alert/protection.
Suddenly all the custom Word templates that I have created have become corrupted with the date being displayed as { DATE \@ "dddd, dd MMMM yyyy" }. Even when I attempt to insert a date in a new, blank (non custom created) document, it is displayed similarly.
The email address area displays an historic email address that is no longer in existence and is prefaced { HYPERKLINK mailto: ...............}
I have no idea why this corruption has occurred and wonder whether I should reinstall the Office Pro 2003 software; might this solve the problem?
In any event, I would like to know why such a corruption should suddenly occur and what might have caused it - might it happen again? I have never experienced this type of error in almost a quarter of a century using stand alone computers.

I would add that I created this question in a Word document and when I cut and pasted it into this message, the date and email addresses were correctly formatted, although I had typed them in their 'program style form' as above, so I am even more confused and bemused!

You're going to want to uninstall MS Office 2003 before installing Office 2007. This will not remove your documents. However, its always a good idea to create a backup of your documents before doing such a thing.

If you have a product key for Office 2007 you can use that with a trial to activate the product.

Once it starts printing, you can use Ctrl.+Z to undo the deletion and then print the parents copies. Or, if you've saved a copy of the doc., you could print the parents page then select (hold down ctrl to multiple select) and delete the answers/print the students copies and when you close the doc. don't save the changes.

Hope this helps.

Happy Holidays!

Running Office 2007. Have made a template for a client that features VB (not legacy) CheckBoxes, ComboBoxes, and TextBoxes. The template is a one page document with tables; the client (a dental surgeon) enters patient name and date, checks various boxes about patient condition/recommendations for treatment, selects text from combo boxes. Auto text will also be included.

The problem: The template takes up to 60 seconds to load on his machine (New Dell, 1Gb RAM, NTFS, Office 2003). I save the template in "compatibility mode" on my machine (P4 2.8 Ghz 1Gb FAT32). Also, the template takes about 10-15 seconds to load on my machine.

How can I speed it up? Is it a compatibility issue?

I would like to get my word to integrate with my outlook. I am running server 2003 with outlook 2007. When I click on letters and mailings in word I get the address book. When I click the address book it says ms exchange and then it says ms exchange is unavailable. Retry or work offline. I would just like to be able to insert contact into my envelopes and labels. My outlook is set up with contacts not a global mail list. Any ideas? This should be simple but it seems that nothing with microsoft ever is.
PS It now will show the global address list and it used to have the contacts listed at the bottom and I could click contacts and then use them. I have global address all contacts etc but not outlook - contacts

No problems.

But, I just downloaded and installed Open Office. But I only want to use it for its Spreadsheet. However, it looks like its word processing component has taken over.

How can I make WORD the Default word processing program (again) ?

Let's say I have data contained in Excel with each piece of data in an adjacent cell...

Name: Rank: SSN#:
Smith, John R SSG 123-456-7890

How would I take that information and merge it into a memorandum in Office, all in separate documents?

So say the memorandum looks like this:
Whomever it may concern,

Smith, John R., SSG, United States Army, 123-456-7890 has been certified blah blah blah blah

So if I had 50 names it would produce 50 documents or something?

Is that even possible?

A:Merging Data From Excel Into Word (2003 Or 2007)

I think you can use Mail Merge to do this kind of thing.

I'm guessing your spreadsheet is in the .CSV format?

If you are using 2003, I'm not sure what the headings are at the top, but with 2007 you need to choose the mailings tab and then select start Mail Merge.

Select the Wizard and you should then have an option somewhere down the line to import a data source.

After doing this you should be able to insert the merge fields which should look like <<Surname>> or something like that.

From this you should then be able to create a template letter and print all the records out.

Hope this helps,

I just got Outlook 2007 but only have Word 2003. I want to set Word as my email editor. I've looked at all the Outlook Options and checked the Microsoft website but can't find how to set Word as the editor. If there is a way, please let me know.

The reason I want Word as the editor is I send a lot of screen snapshots and I used to be able to crop them in Word editor. I can't find a crop option in Outlook 2007. If there is a way to crop screenshots in Outlook editor then I don't need Word.

If you don't have the rest of Office 2007, you won't get the rich features it provides. With Office 2007, you can crop any picture right in an email message; just hit the contextual tab Picture Tools | Format.

I have created a business letterhead as a Word Template with company's logo etc as a picture on top right of 1st page.

When I type into the document or insert autotext entries, the picture stays put, even when I go onto second page. But when I paste text onto the first page, if its more than one page long, it causes the picture to relocate to the second page.

I've tried anchoring the picture. The picture is formatted to be square to text with vertical position absolute to page and "move object with text" is unchecked. I've also tried pasting without formatting. None of these work.

How do I get the picture to stay in its original position when pasting text of more than one page long?

Does anyone know anything about WinCVS? My office has been using WinCVS for document versioning (because it's free and it works) and up until we switched to Office 2007, everything was fine. Now, we need to begin saving our documents (mostly Word) in the new format (with the .docx ext.), but I can't find a way to connect the new .docx version to the old .doc version(s). For example, a document called "document1.doc" has been altered and the new version is "document1.docx." Because the document is saved in the new Word 2007 format, with a new file extension, it will not save as the latest version of the old document, only as a new document. Is there a way to "connect" the old and new formats in WinCVS?

A:WinCVS for document versioning-switching from Word 2003 to 2007

If you want to save a document to be compatible to open in word 97-2003 you cannot simply automatically save the document because it will save as a .docx. Therefore you cannot click on the disk icon at the top to save your document.

Go to the at the top left corner.
Choose Save As. Another menu will appear.
Choose Word 97-2003 Document from the list.
Choose where to save your file.
After the file has been saved as a .doc you can now just press save instead of save as. You can also press on the save symbol (a floppy disk) to automatically save the file now.

Hi all,

Hoping somebody can help me out here. I sent this off to Microsoft about a month ago and have since received three emails in response, one of which said 'try reinstalling' another saying 'are you sure this is the only program in which there is a problem' and a third saying 'please bear with us, we're experiencing high levels of requests right now and need more time.' That was ten days ago.

Yes. Well. I'm hoping somebody out there can help instead

So some background information. I purchased a new laptop about two months ago, on which had Windows Vista (business) automatically installed. I installed myself Office 2007 and updated all the necessary security features and upgrades and so forth. All programs are genuine. This is a decent quality laptop - decent speed (set me back around $2k AU)

About six weeks ago now I began having problems with my computer. It would suddenly freeze on application - the screen would go white and I would lose the ability to click on anything else. alt+ctr+delete had no effect, nor did leaving it alone for a while. Every time this happened I would need to hard restart.

After a system of elimination, I realised the problem occurred when I was opening 2003 Word Documents. (Almost) every time I opened such a document I would freeze up. As a uni student, I'm constantly receiving various documents from other parties which I have been left unable to access.

Office 2007 can read previous versions of Office no matter which program in Office you are using, other versions will need the compatibility pack from Microsoft so they can read 2007 version.

I did use Office 2007 myself recently in a temp job for seven weeks and I don&#8217;t remember seeing an option to save a document in an earlier version format, is the computer is still under warranty?

What ram and processor have you got? Some problems with Vista are caused because If buying a new PC or laptop beware of the differences between &#8216;Vista-Capable&#8217; and &#8216;Vista Premium Ready&#8217;
A PC that is &#8216;Vista-capable&#8217; can run Windows Vista, but won&#8217;t necessarily get everything working. <<<<<<<<

&#8216;VistaPremium-ready&#8217; PC, can get all of the more demanding features such as Aero working correctly.

At the very least Vista needs a truckload of memory and a lot of the cheaper notebooks only come with 512mb of ram unless you have paid for extra, where at least a gig is needed, Ideally 2 gig of memory would be the way to go.

But you did say a reasonable lap top and going by what you wrote it obviously was not like this at the beginning. (Two weeks after you brought it, it started to play up, or is that when you installed Office and its been playing up since you installed it? I recently installed Office 2007 on a new Vista 64 bit system. I was unable to install my previous version of WordPerfect Office 12. When using WP on my previous Windows XP system, I was able to go into the word processor, click open, go to the wp folder (where I kept all my documents) and do a search based on a particular word I was looking for. For example, I could type in the word "hebrew" in the files box and each document file that contained that word (not only in the file name but in the contents of the file) was listed. I could then preview the contents of each document file and open the one I wanted.

Does this feature work in Word 2007 under Vista 64? I have only been able to find a file name with the word I type, even though I know many other document files contain the word I type in the files box. This has been very frustrating because it means I have to preview every file to find the one I want rather than just the files with the typed word in its contents.

Thank you for your time in this matter.

Hi folks,

I have this problem that is hard to search for on Google. We have a lot of word 2000 documents connected to a simpel text data file (data.doc) that is used with mail merge.

Here is our process:
1.) data.doc is opened, filled with all variablenames we can use in our documents (name, country, etc.)
2.) data.doc is opened, filled with the actual data (from a database) belonging to the variables name (Kees, Japan, etc.)
3.) Our 2008 application does step 1 and 2, then starts a template word 2000 document which has that data.doc file attached for mail merge. The template is now filled in with the correct data.
4.) 2008 application tells MS Word to print the document.
5.) Works fine and we have ourselves a nice document filled in with data we specified in the 2008 application.

Now comes the problem, some new computers will have office 2007 instead of office 2000 installed, during testing we have encountered that it does not error but the office 2007 installed computer does not fill in the data and just shows mergefield names <<name>> <<country>>. Also when printed out. So it seems like the datafile is not connected when opening the template in word 2007.

If we let our 2008 application show us the document visually first, we can re-attach the data file again and we can print the data, however there are 3 thing wrong with this approach:

1.) More user input which is not needed.
2.) MS Word is opening and showing, somet... Read more

Right now what is happening:

We are using Microsoft Word 2003. When running a spell check the word pubic is not flagged as being misspelled (I know it's not misspelled).

However we would like to flag it as misspelled as too many people are leaving the letter L out of the word Public and not catching it before they send out documents.

I know how to edit the Custom.dic but how do I edit the built in dictionary.

A:How to remove a correctly spelled word from Word 2003 regular dictionary

I am assuming that pubic is not a word you would use in correspondence- in which case you could use "AutoCorrect" to correct.

Tools> Autocorrect--- then give the word you don't want used and the substitute word you do want used.

If there is a time you need to use that word, you can turn off AutoCorrect when the document is finished and manually make the correction before sending it out.

I have an old version of Word (2000), so I am presuming that MS has not chaned the name of this feature.

I'm guessing that you are referring to the red squiggly underline for mis-spelt words, in which case it could be the language setting of the documents you have pulled off of your network being different to your default language.

Word 2007 User 2: Gets the error message: ?Word cannot open this file . The encryption type used is not available. Contact the author of the file. More encryption types are available in the High Encryption Pack.?

Therefore I suspect some kind of encryption pack must be installed. I believe the user 1 has XP and user 2 has Win 2000 pro. are using XP. Do you know where these encryption packs are available? In the project explorer window you will see a folder called "Modules" that you can open to show all the modules attached to the document. These modules is where you VBA code is stored. You can right click each module and selection the option to export to the location of your choice. Once exported you can copy or save them to another machine and then re-import them by openining the VB editor on the other compuer and choosing FILE >> IMPORT.

I know how to use bullets, but if you tab in the bullets, it will stay tabbed throughout the entire document unless you set up tabbed bullets again. When I try to backspace to go back to left alignment, it will delete the bullet and still stay tabbed. Basically what I am asking is after you do a tabbed bullet, how do you go back to aligning the bullets left again?

A:How to make bullets work in Microsoft Word 2007

Try shift-tab instead of Backspace to shift the tab to the left.

I'm having a very hard time with Word 03 Professional. For some reason, my macros have been disabled, and I'm not even allowed to make new ones. The exact message I'm getting is "The macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of your Macro security settings." My security settings are at low right now; I've went to Help>About Microsoft Ofiice>Disabled Items, but nothing is there. I'm not sure what to do next. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a sub routine designed for Excel 2003 that calls the 'Save As' routine and allows the user to input their own file name and directory etc. I would like to convert it to a Word 2003 routine can anybody show me how or suggest a method by which I can do the same in Word ? Word doesn't recognise the 'Application.GetSaveAsFilename' method in this routine.

I have tried using a MsgBox to define a file name and the use the ActiveDocument.SaveFileAs to save the file but I can't allow the user to choose his own directory using that method and its clumsy !

Dim file_name As Variant

' Get the file name.
file_name = Application.GetSaveAsFilename( _
FileFilter:="Excel Files,*.xls,All Files,*.*", _
Title:="Save As File Name")

' See if the user canceled.
If file_name = False Then Exit Sub

' Save the file with the new name.
If LCase$(Right$(file_name, 4)) <> ".xls" Then
file_name = file_name & ".xls"
End If
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=file_name
End Sub

Because I do teaching for people who have both versions (2007 & 2010) of Word, I have to keep both on my computer. How do I get .doc and .docx to associate with Word 2010?

Because I work mostly in 2010, I want to default to opening with 2010 but I can't do it. When I do try to correct the association (through the Control Panel) it WON'T associate with 2010. I go to the winword.exe in the correct folder for 2010 and click on it but it just stays the same, still associated with winword.exe in the 2007 folder.

A:need word 2007 AND word 2010, how to set file associations

FileTypesManager is pretty good in cases like this one.

Download this free application, run it, look for docx. Hightlight it and press F2. In a new window delete anything in the User Choice field. Close that window and find Open coomand for docx in main Window. Make sure that command-line leads to Office14. Repeat for doc.

I am converting a large website of Microsoft Word files to TeX files and have written several useful Word macros to automate this process. When I converted from Word 2007 to Word 2010, the macros I wrote disappeared (a lot of supplied macros do appear). They don't appear even when I open a doc file where they have already been used in that file under Word 2007. It didn't occur to me to save the macros elsewhere, and apparently installing Word 2010 destroyed them.

Where can I find them?

I have a Lenovo laptop which my husband purchased for my daughter. It came with the Vista bundle and recently he downloaded Microsoft Office Suite 2003. The laptop is set up with different users, specifically my husband as the administrator, myself with administrative authority, and my daughter with no privileges. I work as a medical transcriptionist and am planning on using the laptop when I go on trips. I downloaded Nuance MedRemote Webtop. This program has 3 components: one component with the patient demographic information, an audio player to listen to the digital voice recordings, and then a Word program. It can work with Word 2000, 2003, or 2007. I have MedRemote loaded on my main computer with Word 2000 on an XP platform and it works fine. On the laptop, however, the MedRemote cannot find the Word program. It gives me an error "Word not available." However, I do have Word 2003 and it works fine. I have run the detect and repair option on Word 2003 in the hopes that this would help, but it did not. It may be that MedRemote is not finding the "" page. Can anyone help with this? I really appreciate it!

Windows 7 Professional Edition Service Pack 1 Build 7601
Microsoft Office 2010

My user has spent years building her Auto-Text feature within Word 2003 to the point it is now, but her company just bought her a new Windows 7 Pro machine with Office 2010 installed. She asked that I migrate her Auto-Text data to Word 2010. After researching on I found that this data is stored in a file and this file needs to be migrated to (in Windows 7)
C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office.

Having done this, I now find the file I placed there in this location, as well as a new file that Word 2010 has created, but the two aren't merging. I see the new file has macros enabled... Does anyone have any ideas on how to merge these files into one file useable by Word 2010?

A:Help with migrating a Word 2003 file to Word 2010 is the global template for Microsoft Word and is stored in different locations on the system based on the version of Windows and Word.

You dont want to merge them you want to backup the existing file to something like normal.old.
Then replace the file in the correct location, which I cant research for you right now.

The bad thing about doing things like this is that if gets corrupted, all the work put in to this is lost!

I normally use Word 2003 for documents, although I use Outlook 2010. This morning I opened a Word 2010 document and after quite a while of some sort of an installation, I was able to open the Word 2010 document. I did not think too much of it, except that later I was sending an e-mail and attached a Word 2003 document and when I went to check it (i.e. open it up) it opened in Word 2010. How do I disable Word 2010 as my default program to open Word documents. I do not want to uninstall the program, but at this point I am not ready to learn how to use Word 2010.

Hi this is my first post and i have a question regarding templates in word. Let me give you you some background first, my friend runs a businness and many years ago someone set up a report system on word that involved loading the template and a series of windows would pop up requesting information i.e. name, address and some are radio buttons to select options these are then merged into the template. The program this is running on is a very early version of Winword and due to compatibilty issues he would like to use a newer version of Word. All i would like to know is if this is possible and to point me in the right direction. I know this could be done using Access and merging but i was hoping there would be another solution that would just involve using Word. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Welcome to the forums. Without looking at the actual files, I am guessing they are using Fill-In fields and other form items. Could you e-mail the files to me so I can take a look at them? You can e-mail me by clicking on my name and selecting the option to e-mail me.

I have created some templates for Word 97 and have just discovered that if a user has created an Auto Correct entry for a word, when that word is typed for the second time in the same form field, the word is deleted. It doesn't happen with every word in the Auto Correct list, though, just certain ones, eg, 'Mrs' and 'Mr' disappear, 'about' doesn't. Has anyone else experienced this, or can anyone suggest a solution?

A:Word Templates

Elaine, you've explained more than most, but could you give me an exact example? For instance, you say "when it's entered more than once..."; does that mean they're typing Mrs. in one spot in that form field, more text follows, and then they type it again and it removes itself? Would you be willing to email one of the templates that this occurs on along with one of the autotext entries that goofs this up?

I have recently been having a problem with my Word templates that I haven't had in the last two years we have been using them.

Normally, when you open a template, you actually open a new document based off of the template. However, I have a system that, when you double click on the template, instead of creating a blank document, it actually goes into the template itself. Any idea how to fix this or what caused it?

Thanks, Becky

A:Word Templates

(this is for WinXP and Office 2000).
it looks like the default action for a .dot is set to 'Open' rather than 'New'.

to check this, instead of double clicking the template file name, right click on it and see which option is highlighted, I suspect your's is 'Open'.

To correct this, assuming you are in a browser window, click Tools , then Folder Options, then 'File Types' tab, scroll down to DOT, highlight it and press 'Advanced', highlight 'New' and press 'Default'.

On my old computer when you went opened WORD and Selected FILE NEW it came up with a box filled with templates. On my new computer I get nothing - Where-oh-where did my templates go?

A:Word: Where-oh-where did my templates go?

Hit Start-Find-Files or folders and type in:

Find the path to the location of these files on the hard drive.

Now, go to Word, hit Tools-Options-File locations and double-click the user or document templates location.

Basically, they need to match, so you've got two options.

1. Copy/move all of the templates into the location noted under File locations in Word; or

2. Change the location to become the path of your templates.

Defaults (I believe) are:

Office 97:

c:\program files\microsoft\microsoft office\templates (or very similar)

Office 2K:

c:\windows\application data\microsoft\templates

Hey guys, im new here!

I thought i'd ask a question thats been bugging me...

in Microsoft Word, i know you can create templates, i've created a basic one.

I want to make a letterhead as a template, but actually functions so that members of staff, at my company, can simply select and fill in the gaps, like the templates when creating a CV/Resume on Word.
My firm is a solicitors firm, so we need something that would actually benefit.

I've thought of using MACROS, i tried them and they failed.

The things im struggling on...

i want the last page to say "yours sincerly..." so i tried putting this into the footer, so its automatic so it saves time, but this enters it to every page.

Is there a way i can enter the signature on only the last page, but as a template?

I want the signature to be displayed only on the last page. If i type a letter which currently has 1 page, i want the signature to stay on the end, but if i shift to an extra page making the letter 2 pages now, i want the signature to automatically be displayed and moved to the bottom.

Also, i saw on the macro, you can make a section in capitals only.
I think this worked, but then when i saved as a template and then opened it, it wasn't in capitals, i could shift in and out of upper and lowercase.
Is there a way i can force capitals onto a certain section, such as "Ref: JHHDF525"?
incase staff enter "jhhdf525" instead?

I hope this can be done and isnt too much w... Read more

This one has driven me nuts *many* times, but I think I have it now, so thanks to you for asking.

In your *template*, use a CREATEDATE field (Insert -- Field), something like
CREATEDATE \@ "dd/MM/yyyy"

Try it then test by tinkering with your system clock.
