Solved: Microsoft Office 2003 Word problem

Q: Solved: Microsoft Office 2003 Word problem

I'm having a strange problem with Microsoft Word 2003 SP3.

It only happens on new docs. I'm a writer and when I open ongoing projects in Word everything is fine, but when I open a new doc. my Page Setup doesn't work. If I set it to have 1" of space top, bottom and sides, it doesn't work on the top. My first line starts at the very top of the page.

Also, the ruler up the left side should be dark where that top inch of space should be, but it isn't because it's not working. I discovered a temporary fix in Page Setup by setting the top space to be 2" and the sides and bottom to be 1". However, even doing this I don't get the dark inch or so at the top of my left margin ruler.

I did a repair in ADD Remove Programs but it didn't change anything. It might be a corruption in Word because I have the same Office 2003, SP3 on my laptop and I've compared all the settings on both computers and they appear to be identical.

Has anyone here run into this problem, and do you think uninstalling and reinstalling Office might solve the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I'm having this problem with Microsoft Word.
I has never happen before and it doesn't happen with other office program like PowerPoint or Excel. Just Microsoft Word.

My Office is: Microsoft Office Word 2003 (11.5604.5606)
Part of Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003

The problem is when I'm using my Khmer Font (Limon) and I type a certain letter (only this one letter) which use Ctrl + Alt + T it change my font to Time New Roman size 10 and the cursor also change appearance.
I'm attaching the pictures of screenshot and logs I scan with MBAM and CCleaner. Although I don't think it's virus problem.
Please help me.

Thanks,

Sorry on the go

But all it is. Is that you have size 10 and then size 22 after it

I can't explain it clearly it's 10 10 10 10 10 22 22 22
And when you backspace the 22 size it stays 22 until you make it size10 again
As for that little dot, it must be the font at that size, or something

A:Microsoft Office Word 2003 problem

I have seen several suggestions for dealing with this problem, some work for some people, others don't and
some of them are potentially destructive, in my opinion, therefore I do not propose to supply any links.

However, I will tell you that I had the same problem recently. I run Office 2003 Professional Edition and
downloaded the Office 2007 trial. It was not for me and I uninstalled it. My problems then started,
with these 'Please wait while Windows configures' messages.

I tried all the usual 'repair' methods, but the only thing which fixed the problem was a complete
uninstall and reinstall of Office 2003. That would be my only suggestion and in addition,
I left the setup files on my hard disk, when asked, because there are some features that are not
immediately installed by the program, even on a full install and it saves digging out the CD/DVD
whenever you come across these features. (Don't remember too clearly which ones, I think it
may have been in connection with Publisher).

I appreciate this may be stating the obvious. If you can find an easier method, which you trust,
good luck.

btw, I am assuming that your computer is virus, adware, malware and spyware free.
You should run something like Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpware if you haven't
checked recently; presumably you have a realtime antivirus scanner.

Hello there.

Microsoft office 2003 problem.
When starting microsoft word on vista ulitmate, there seems to be a problem

This will automatically shut down, saying there was a problem and is shutting down...
The other programs seem fine, Excel, powerpoint, etc.

I havent a clue what this could be, has anyone else had this problem.
In the top right corner of microsoft word it will say "Finalizing Installation" and then after you type a couple of sentences it will shut down on its own..

This is for a friend of mine, who had microsoft office put on when she bought the laptop of a friend, though she does not have the disk, so i wondered if this is an installation problem.

Would this be some sort of copy of microsoft office 2003, that was put on for her
She has only found this out now as her son needs to use word for school
( vista ultimate, 64 bit, sp2)

A:Microsoft office 2003/ Problem with Word

I assume that you're opening up Word from the Start menu here...

Open up the Start Menu and go to Word. Right-click on it. Open up its Compatability tab which is the third tab.

2003 is an XP product. Therefore, Word (and Excel and Access if they're 2003 versions) should be run in compatibility mode for "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)."

If this is not so, check the box and select Windows XP from the list to make it so amd OK the box to close it.

See if it runs now.

When I open Word to a blank page I get the message "Windows cannot open the existing (normal). When I try to close it I get different messages that I don't understand concerning saving to "normal" "yes/no", etc. then finally closes to my desktop. I uninstalled the program and then reinstalled to only get the same thing happening. Is this repairable and are there any options to fix/resolve? Thanks

Just recently something has changed with my Microsoft Office Word 2003 app.

I'm a writer and I have always been able to drag my pages that I have written today to a folder in My Documents and the same file would stay on my desktop for immediate access later. I realize other may not work this way but it is how I prefer to work as it has become my habit

When I try to drag and drop it now, it drops into the My Documents folder but it no longer remains on the desktop.

Now, in conjunction with this problem, I have another new problem, which is that when I write a page of text in Word and save it to a My Documents folder it doesn't go there. Also when I save a picture to My Pictures as I've always done it won't be there when I look for it. Something is preventing me from saving things and I haven't a clue what it is. I have to open the My Documents folder and drag the Word text page into it. It's the only way I can save stuff for some reason.

Can someone please tell me how I can fix this problem?

Thank you in advance.

Good afternoon people,

Firstly, I would like to say hello to everyone who've helped me in the past with my Access help. It's been a long absence with study commitments and such, but as is the purpose of this group, I would like to ask for some tech help:

The situation: Microsoft Word (as part of Office 2003 Professional Edition) frequently closes without user notification on my dad's laptop (Windows Vista Basic). It's recently started, and it interrupts his work. He says that the issue occurs when he minimises documents, but he didn't indicate a frequency of this occurrence. He also told me that once he successfully saves a document and closes Word, he then encounters issues when opening said document; it says that the file has been "corrupted" (I can't remember exactly what the dialog box says), and that the data can be recovered, or to proceed with opening the document. Data recovery doesn't work, and when he proceeds to open the document, Word returns "Program not responding" and "Critical error caused by the program" and other prompts of this nature, which then forces the program to quit.

I am aware that a similar problem is in the Microsoft Knowledge Base for Word 2003, but was last revised in 2004 (so covered only xp and 2000), and am not certain if this issue is the same for Windows Vista. It related to the "Handwriting Recognition" program.

Additionally, as always, there are a multitude of ... Read more

For some reason just lately when I'm tying pargraphs in Word, the letters I type are slow to appear on the page. They appear a couple or three seconds after I've typed them, and in some cases, when I review the paragraphs, I find words that are missing two or three letters.

Something must be using a lot of my resources, but I keep all my security programs updated and I have loads of disc space and tons of memory. I had the same problem once before on another system and never solved it.

Can anyone please offer suggestions as to what's causing this?

I've run into a bit of a weird issue with my Microsoft Word. Whenever I highlight/select text, and press any button (space, "x", backspace, delete, etc.), instead eliminating all that text and performing the action that I pressed, the text just stays in place as if I never highlighted in and the action is carried out at the beginning of the selection. I've never seen anything like this before, and I'm really not sure how to search in the help function for it, so does anyone have any idea how I might fix this? Microsoft Updates roll back my personal settings. Following a crash, I reinstalled the OS and several applications including Microsoft Office Professional 2003. I spent a long time amending the personal settings; and changing the desktop background wallpaper, folders options, start-up preferences on utilities such as Uniblue ?PowerSuite?, and so on. Everything was working excellently! Then I went to Microsoft Update. There were 21 critical updates which I duly downloaded and installed. When I restarted my computer I was utterly horrified to find that all my changes had been annulled. The computer worked all right, but I was ?back to square one?. Mistakenly thinking that some inadvertent act on my part had done the damage, I wiped my hard disk and repeated the whole reinstallation process, including amending personal settings. Once again, all was fine ?. until I downloaded and installed the Microsoft updates!!!

I feel sure that one or more of the Microsoft updates are causing the trouble. Having reinstalled everything (for the third time!), I shall next do a ?custom? Microsoft update.

Can anyone advise me which of these Microsoft updates I should avoid (i.e., uncheck in the list)?

The computer is a Packard Bell EasyNote GN45 with 1GB of RAM and a new 160GB Western Digital hard drive. The OS is Windows XP Professional (SP3).

I can't exactly tell you why this seems to work but in my experience I have always downloaded or installed the Windows updates prior to installing anything else such as other programs. Based on your explanation as to the computers bad behavior and the fact that you attempted the same process twice with the identical results I would suggest that you do the clean format and clean install then installing the updates prior to any other program installation.

Hi, I've been having this problem with MS Word 2003 for a little bit.

What happens is, I open the application, and the Word box pops up like it's about to open like it should, but then it takes forever to open, maybe over 10 minutes or so, unless I just end the process like I usually do since it takes so long.

The only thing I've noticed different about anything when I open it is, Navw32.exe starts running, and if i end that, an alert window opens that says "The document C:\Documents and Settings\David Solis\Application Data\Microsoft\Normal\Templates.dot is still infected. Do you want to delete this file?". I'll click no, and Word opens.

Any idea what any of this is, why it's doing it, and how to stop it? Thanks!

well when you get to 1000 i think Word is adjusting Left, & Hanging/First Line Indentation ...... e.g. when you start from number 1 .... Word usually sets to Left = 0.25, Hanging/First Line 0.25.

You can adjust it according to your needs by changing those values. Goodluck

I've tried numerous times to set up an Outlook acct in order to be able to email docs from Word. When I would click on mail, an outlook email window would open but "send" etc buttons don't work.

Today, I tried to intergrate Outlook to use my MSN Acct. That failed, too. Can't even get an email window to pop up in Word now.

I acquired my Office Word 2003 by downloading a 3-mo. trial version that came w/my new PC/Windows XP. Trial period is over and I have NOT converted to the full Office 2003 program.

Once Trail period expired, it's my understanding that not all Word functions are now available to me.

Could it be that being able to email from Word is one of the functions I lost?

In both Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, when I do a "File, Open" command, a box comes up showing the contents of the last directory I used. If I then attempt to use the drop down from this box to navigate to a new directory, it takes 65 seconds before the drop down list appears, and then another 30-40 seconds before the drop-down menu responds to my request for a new directory.

I have uninstalled and re-installed Microsoft office, and I have run the "detect and repair" option in the help menu. Nothing seems to fix the problem. I have no idea why this is happening or what Microsoft Office is doing during those 65 seconds to produce the drop down list and during the following 30-40 seconds to navigate to a requested directory in the drop down list.

I do not have this problem with other applications such as Lotus 123.

Any ideas?

A:Solved: On my computer, under Office 2003, where are MS Word macros stored?

They could be in many different locations:

- Within the document in question, which is probably not the case since you're missing your macros.

- In your normal.dot, which is normally located in your profile directory (usually C:\Documents and Settings\YourUsername) under \Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\

- In any .dot file in your Word Startup folder, which is usually in your profile directory: \Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP\

- In any other .dot file in any other folder, that was manually added to Word through Tools, Templates and Add-Ins. If your macros were not in any of the previously mentioned locations, search the hard drive for any .dot files and check whether your macros in there...

Here's a problem I haven't seen a solution for.

I couldn't find my MS Office CD when I installed a new HD. So, I installed OpenOffice v2. 4When I found the CD for MS Office 2003, I loaded it and then unistalled OOv2.4. Now, everything about MS Office except Microsoft Office Word works correctly. When MSWord is opened, a error message says "Microsoft Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close." There is a check marked box that says, "Recover my work and restart Microsoft Office Word." If the box is unchecked, MS word does not open, If left checked, MS Word opens but no documents are "recovered" and documents cannot be opened from MS Word. Only by going to Windows Explorer / MY Documents can Word documents be opened. MS Word cannot be uninstalled, either. Reloading MS Office 2003does not resolve the problem. Fortunately, all the documents created in or converted by OpenOffice v2.4 converted to MS Word. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi All....

"An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Please run Setup and select 'Repair...' to restore this application"

Now i assumed that this was due to the fact that this was a student account. We then upgraded the account to Domain Admin, and we are getting the same error.

This is in an enterprise, and if we were to repair the Word File, We would have to do it on all 18 computers on said domain.

Is there an alternative?

You got it save it as a Word Document in Open Office. If you opened it and then resaved it in Open Office it may have saved it as an Open Office file type instead of a Microsoft Word File Type. I know there is a way to make Open Office to default to saving as a Word Document. Just look thru the settings. So your first step to investigate is too see what file type OpenOffice is saving as by default.

When I exit MS Office 2007 Word a pane appears that says "Word has stopped working and will search for a solution" (which is never found) followed by "Word is re-starting." After the re-start, I'm able to exit Word without further messages or difficulty. This is more of a nuisance than anything else but I have the impression that the program (at least the version I have) may be somewhat unstable.

I've looked for a solution on the MS Support Web site to no avail and wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience with this program.

My O/S is Vista Home Premium; the MS Office 2007 is the Student and Teacher Edition; my computer is an HP Pavilion a6345f.

Hello,

I'm having problems with all programs in Microsoft Office 2003. Here's the situation...

6 months ago I took a computer class which taught the use of Microsoft Office 2007 programs. As a part of the class, we got a trial version of Microsoft Office 2007, which is supposed to last for 180 days.

A few weeks ago the trial period ended and I could no longer use Office '07. I uninstalled the trial software and wanted to go back to using Office '03.

However, now whenever I try to start any program from Office '03, I get a message box telling me it's beginning some kind of installer. After a minute of this box, I get an error message saying:

"This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."

I downloaded and used the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility, but it didn't help. I can't run any of the Office programs, repair them using the installation CD, or even uninstall any of them. I'm running Windows XP Professional.

What are my options? Are there anyways to fix this problem?

Hey everybody

I've been trying to figure this out for a while, but just can't seem to get it to work right.

I have the Microsoft Office Access 2003 Developer Extensions, which has a packaging wizard, that is used to package up a Access database and include a runtime environment, so users without access on their computer can use a database.

I have access on the computer in my office, so I take the file I want to package, and run the wizard, creating a setup file for the database and runtime. Now, I go over to the server, run the setup program, and have it installed on the server.

I can run the database on the server fine. I open it up, it runs in runtime mode, just as the package wizard said it should, and I can do whatever I want. The problem I am having is, I try to create a share, so that I can share this program with users on the network.

When I do this, it just doesn't work right. It is saying that it can't find the file "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\ifg_agent_database\ifg_agents_modified_10_13_05.mdb"

Any ideas on what is going on?

I used to have a problem with blue screens on my toshiba laptop running vista. That problem was solved. However, since then microsoft office word 2007 is not working properly anymore. Whenever i try to save, open or close a file the program stops responding and crashes. I tried uninstalling microsoft office, scaning the computer registry with regsupreme pro and cleaning it and then reinstalling microsoft office but the problem persists.
The problem is only with microsoft word, all other office programs work fine.
My best guess is that something went wrong with some system file.
I have absolutely no idea what to do. If anyone can help me somehow i would appreciate it.
My last resort is formatting the computer which i would like to avoid.

I have created in Microsoft Word 2003 on an XP OS some lengthy documents. I created them using a view setting of 150%.

I sent them to my employer, who is using Windows 98 and Microsoft Word 97. My boss opened them with his system and they displayed on the screen at a view of 200%. He wants me to send him Word documents that he can open from the CD-R that I send that will automatically display at 100% view on the screen so that he does not have to set the view for each document as it displays.

So what is the answer.

Is there a way that I can save my created documents so that when my boss gets them on a CD-R that they will open on his system at a view setting of 100%.

Is there also a way that his system can be set to default to 100% in reading from the CD-R.

My boss does not want to copy the documents to the system hard disk from my sent CD-R, preferring to read and copy directly from the CD-R that I send, so that the original documents will not accidentally be changed.

Any help would be appreciated.

I recently installed the Microsoft Office 2010 Beta, but this morning its intro screen stays stuck at "Starting Microsoft Office Click-to-Run." Googling it resulted in only two threads, neither of them having the answer.

I'm back to using Office 2007, by simply setting my Word and Excel documents to open by Office 2007 by default, but now my Word and Excel icons have become much less pretty, such as my Word icons becoming a very plain "DOCX" icon instead of the normal "blue W" icon. I checked, and the file types are still regular Word documents. Is there a way to get the pretty icons back?

A:Office 2010 Problems: "Starting Microsoft Office Click-to-Run" & Unattractive DOCX icons for Word documents.

Regarding changing the icon:
Go to either My Computer or Windows Explorer.
Click Tools, Folder Options, File Types tab.
Scroll down to the DOCX file type (file types are in alphabetical order), click on it one time to highlight it.
Click the Advanced button.
The "Edit File Type" screen appears.
There is a Change Icon button in the top right area.
Click the Change Icon button.
You should have other icon choices to pick from.
Side note: If you don't like any of those icons, you can always hit the Browse button,
and browse to where other icons are, (you can assign any icon to any file type that you want, it is a matter of personal preference).
Icons are found in .exe files (executables), some (not all) .dll (dynamic link library) files, and .ico files.

Has any other business gotten this? We got a letter from Microsoft corperation that their Office 2003 suite contained 3rd party code and they require for us to stay licensed and compliant that all installs have to be upgraded to SP 2 and then to SP 3 when it gets released...

It does not go into specifics but is on Microsoft company paper and is addressed from them so I am not thinking this to be some kind of HOAX... but I can't find anything mentioned online about it at all on the internet.

Has anyone else seen this does anyone have a link to the story as to who the third party and why they are sending out this letter and what was infringed upon enough to require a mailing to customers? (PS I only spent about 5 mins looking for it under search terms like Office 2003 service pack 3rd party code.)

Ok, so here's the story: everytime I open a document in MSWord 2003, its fine, opens and works and I can type and do whatever. The first time I save the file, it saves properly, however, if I CTRL+S again, it asks me to specify what file I want to save it as, and when I try to save it as the one I have open, it errors me, saying that the file that I have open is a read-only file. That's weird, because in the properties I can clearly see that its not read-only.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I un and reinstalled on my PC but the problem continues. Any help will be greatly appreciated =]

Thanks in advance.

BTW I am using XP and the in the blue bar of the open document it says "DocumentName (Read-Only)" after I try to save it for the second time.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post in, Im new, but I really need help because my comp has been acting weirdly these past few days.

I wanted to install outlook (office) 2003 to solve this. I removed office
XP with Control Panel and ran a good disc to install office 2003. The
installation stopped several times when the wizard could not find certain
.cab files, but when I checked the disc the files were on the disc.... ? I
tried this several times with the same result.....

I have an older laptop Toshiba Portege 4010 933MHz, 750 MB RAM, 20 GB HD
capacity with 7.25 GB free, running XP Pro SP3, AVG and Malwarebytes...

Tips? Ideas? Solutions?
Thanks.

Try to copy the disc on your hard drive. If there is read-error present on the disc, you will not be able to copy all files. If not, try to install it from hard drive itself.

I recently installed MS Office 2003 on a computer running on Windows XP Professional and it was working fine. From the installation, two run time errors would come up when I would log on to AOL instant messenger. To fix this I went to internet properties and disabled script debugging (other). The "disable script debugging" for internet explorer was already disabled. From there on I stopped receiving the error. When I restarted to see if the settings would remain the same my computer wanted reactivation for some reason. So I tried to reactivate it over the internet but no connection was being established. I even went and connected the cable from the cable box directly to the computer and even that wouldn't work. I was sure that internet worked on it because it had worked before I restarted. The problem is I have to reactivate my computer or I can't log on to it. Is there a way I can fix this or somehow restore my computer without logging on.

Hi everybody,

I have two probs. & hope someone knows the solution(s).

1. Have successfully installed Office 2003 into Win 7. To date (the last 3 weeks, that is,) I have none of the crashes, stops, error messages, etc. that some people here have. Outlook 2003 is working fine and Word 2003 does, too, in Win 7 (fingers crossed) . I only have a minor annoyance, though: In Word 2003, I cannot get the little "office assistant" to appear like I could in XP. When I try, the message comes up:"...requires Microsoft Agent 2.0 or later". Where the hell do I get Microsoft Agent 2.0 (or later)? I do like the little characters, though I suppose I could exist without them. Any suggestions?...

2. My username will probably appear here as FLYUERBOB. When I registered I accidentally mistyped it - should be FLYERBOB. I've tried the "change profile" field, but it doesn't provide for modification of username. I really don't fancy re-registering just to exclude a miserable "U". How can I change this with my current registration?

Many thanks for any help.

After completing setup and customization of Word 2003, I discover that my new default blank page ignores the margins I've set. The cursor blinks right along the top edge of the page even though I've set a top margin of 1.25". Somehow, that's gotten into the basic configuration of Word as there's nothing I can do to get any blank page to load properly. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Word, then copying from my other PC my Word 2000 normal.dot (which is how I originally set up Word 2003), and it still opens any default document with the cursor hugging the top edge of the page. I also tried opening a previously-created Word document with the same margin settings, erasing the content to make it a blank sheet, and using it to create a new normal.dot and a new startup.dot. The process of converting it to .dot format brings back the edge-hugging cursor which did not happen in the document before saving. Help!

While typing a document, I did a stupid thing (stupid because I don't know what I did to do it).
The document now has the paragraph symbol before and after each paragraph. Also, each word is separated by a dot. What do I do to remove the symbol and dot?
And will the document still be readable?

I really screwed up these programs. I downloaded a free trial of system mechanic and something happened to the programs. When I open word or excel a installer opens and trys to install the program but gets an error message that a cab file is missing. Error 1311 c:\msocache\allusers\90000409-6000-11d3-8cfe-0150048383c9\4t561401.cab The computer is a Dell and on microsoft site said I had to go to manufactor for help. They won't do anything except ot sell me the programs as the warranty is expired. Only other thing I can think of is to restore the computer to its origanal state but it would wipe out all the stuff on it. Tried to back it up on floppys but too many files 80,000. Any help woild be greatly appreciated as I have very little knowledge of computers. thanks

Hello,
Using XP OS, Word 2003 here,

Bascially I'm taking reports from Access (2003) and exporting to word. When I do this, they always look like the attatched document.

Basically I want it to not look so darn ugly with giant gaps between paragraphs and a crapload of new lines at the end of every line.

Any ideas?

Hi, hopefully someone can help me with this somewhat minor, but annoying problem with Microsoft Word 2003.

Any time I open a new document in Word 2003, the cursor is at the very top of the page. It's not at the vertical position that the page setup window says it should be at (1"), but it is in the proper left margin position.

To solve it, I have to go to the menu: Format>>Borders and Shading. I click on the Page Border tab (which is defaulted to "None") and click OK. At that point the cursor moves to the correct position.

I have to do this every time I open a new document to get the cursor in the right starting point for the doc. I assume this has something to do with the Normal.dot template, but I can't figure out how to fix it. I've tried editing and saving Normal.dot with the cursor in the correct position, but that hasn't solved the problem.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

A:Solved: MS Word 2003-Can't fix problem with Normal.dot

Welcome to the forum.

You have it hiding the "White Space" at the top of the "Print Layout" view. To stop this from happening you will want to go to the border at the page at the very top and you will see an icon with two arrows pointing north and south that says "Show White Space." If you click on this icon it should get you what you want.

Hi

I have a Word fill in form that at some point had Track Changes turned on.

It is a form several people use. Every time a new person, or new computer accesses this form, the formatting ballooons show up, and print as well.

I can turn it all off for each user in their Word settings, but how do I get rid of these formatting balloons in the document itself? That way, whenever it gets opened for the first time by someone else, I don't have to go and turn off all the track changes stuff.

thanks
Bobbi

I working on a client laptop that has Vista on it. She had Office 2007 student version on it and then installed Office 2003 basic version, also. I know that can cause a problem, she did not want Office 2007, but wanted to keep 2003.

The main problem is she has a copy of her resume on a flash drive and wanted to use it on office 2003. I have Office 2003 Pro on my XP computer and on my Vista laptop. I have no problem reading the resume off the flash drive on ether computer. The file is off Word 10 program version.

This laptop was a mess. No updates, 761 spywares, but no virus. Clean up and updated. Remove both Office program and ran a reg cleaner. And installed just Office 2003 basic edition. Everything works, but still have a problem.

Will not open file. Keep getting ********.doc is locked for editing by 'another user' ... This does not happen on the other computers. What is happen with this laptop????

Hi. I have a 250 page document that was set up with standard 1 inch margins on each side. not sure why, but when I opened the document to day, word is adding an extra inch of white space to the right side. I've checked page setup and the margins are still at one inch (and the ruler at the top of the display shows that as well.

Any ideas what may have gone wrong or how to fix this? When I print something out, the print is scrunched down to a smaller size to fit in the smaller space.

NOTE - if I open a new document, things display correctly (treating page as if standard 8.5 inches wide). If I cut and paste my document into this new one, however, I'm again faced with the pseudo 9.5 inch page.

Thanks

A:Solved: Word 2003 Problem with Margins

OK - finally figured it out. I must have clicked on Markup at some point which adds the width to the page so comments can appear in the extra wide margin - I didn't have any comments so that hadn't occurred to me as a possibility. Clicking Markup for a second time (under the View menu I believe) collapsed the page back down to normal proportions. Figured I'd post this instead of just deleting the thread in case any one else had a similar problem.
