Hello,

I am having issues with Word and Outlook 2003. I just upgraded them from 2000 and now I am running into a couple of issues. Help!

Microsoft Word 2003
- Can't highlight or select an area on my Word page with my mouse. I can use my keyboard, but that becomes quite annoying as you can imagine.

Microsoft Outlook 2003
- Can't highlight or select an area on my page with my mouse. I can use my keyboard, but that becomes quite annoying as you can imagine.
- Can't open Word document attachments only. I can open excel, pdf, etc..., but not Word.

I have restarted my pc, reinstalled office 2003, erased the normal.dot profile, removed the 11.0\Word\Data registry and no luck. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have assigned a keyboard shortcut to Microsoft Word 2007. When I press those keys, Microsoft Word 2007 takes a while to open. If I close the program and press those same shortcut keys, Word opens up instantly. However, if I don't open word again for several minutes it takes some time to open just as it did when I first opened it. I haven't timed it to see at what point this occurs, but I did notice it after 20 minutes or so.

I am assuming that something stays in memory / running for a while (and this is independent of the fact that I already have multiple documents already open), which is why Word opens up again instantly. It is indeed instant and I am very happy with that speed, but I want it to happen every single time.

Does anyone have any ideas on how this can be done?

Note: This is being done on a Windows 8 Computer.

When I open a microsoft office word document a light blue screen comes up which is usually the screen behind the word doc that opens. In order for me to pull up the doc I am looking for I have to hit the menu on top left and click recent documents and then it opens the doc. Also, if I right click and choose word to open the doc an error message pops up saying "Windows cannot find C:documents and settings/administrator/desktop/charlie/d? make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again". I am using Office 2007 and this happens with every document I open that is a word document. It does not happen with Excel

I currently am setting up 4 new PCs for my workplace. They are runnin Windows 7 Pro 32 bit. I am having issues with MS Office 07. 2 of the PCs run all of the office programs fine. The other 2 will not open word or powerpoint. They just crash on startup. Both these computers are on a domain and the domain user has Admin privileges, however it still does not launch. When I log directly into the administrator account it does launch but if I go back to the domain user (with admin permissions) it fails to launch. I have read tons of forums and tried everything from the reinstalling, repairing, deleting the registry, deleting the normal.dot, running some registry commands and still nothing. I am out of ideas and curious as to why it would work fine on 2 of the PCs but not the other 2. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know there is plenty of info out there on this issue, but I have tried everything I can find and still no success.

I am using a computer in the office. There are two of us that use this computer, myself and my boss. Neither of us are really computer saavy, we understand the basics and thats about it. We only work in the office on rainy days, any other time we are outside. But we have been using Microsoft word 2003 for a few years and have never had a problem loading it until now. It takes up to 5 minutes sometimes to load the program. We are using Windows XP 2002 edition, service pack 3. The computer is a dell Dimension DM051 Intel (R) Pentium (R) D CPU 2.8GHz, 2.79 GHZ, 1.00GB of RAM. All our reports are in Word format and every time we open any report it is taking up to 5 min. to load. Is this a virus, spyware? I dont' think its the computer itself because we've never had a problem with this or any other program before. Any support or suggestions would greatly be appreciated thank you.

Open Word, go to the Office Orb, then Resources, and then "Run Microsoft Office Diagnostics.

This will check out the install and do a repair if needed. You will need to the "Office cache" file on the hard drive or have the Office CD handy, if it is needed.

I have many problems and get error messages when I try to open a MS Word document or try to get MS Word program to open.

Problem #4 and Error message #2:

Quit Outlook and all mail enabled applications, and then use the inbox repair too (Scanst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in the file. For more information aouth the inbox repair tool, see Help".

I keep getting error messages when trying to open files created in Word 2003. The files burn to cd without a problem but when I try to open them off of the cd I get the file may be corrupt try to use recover text option or open and repair option. The odd thing is these word 2003 files open in Office xp without any issues. I have also got an error stating I do not have adminstrative rights on my cd drive. The cd drive is not a network shared drive so I am confused by this error. I have replaced the old cd-r/rw drive with a dvd r/rw and still get the same problems. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The very first time you try and open up a Word Attachment within Outlook we receive an error message as follows :- "The System cannot find the file specified". If you leave Microsoft Word open and then double click the file again, the document opens.

I have tried all solutions\suggestions on how to fix this and none of these have helped. Has anyone else come across this issue and managed to resolve it?

I have created in Microsoft Word 2003 on an XP OS some lengthy documents. I created them using a view setting of 150%.

I sent them to my employer, who is using Windows 98 and Microsoft Word 97. My boss opened them with his system and they displayed on the screen at a view of 200%. He wants me to send him Word documents that he can open from the CD-R that I send that will automatically display at 100% view on the screen so that he does not have to set the view for each document as it displays.

So what is the answer.

Is there a way that I can save my created documents so that when my boss gets them on a CD-R that they will open on his system at a view setting of 100%.

Is there also a way that his system can be set to default to 100% in reading from the CD-R.

My boss does not want to copy the documents to the system hard disk from my sent CD-R, preferring to read and copy directly from the CD-R that I send, so that the original documents will not accidentally be changed.

Any help would be appreciated.

I recently purchased an ASUS Windows 8.1 64 bit computer.  I transferred my Microsoft Works Version 8.0 word processor and spreadsheet files from my old computer onto the new computer.  I just purchased the Microsoft Office 2013 Home and Student Edition (64 bit version) from an online vendor and installed the software onto my new computer.

I have no problems opening my Works spreadsheet files in Excel.  However, when I attempt to open a Works word processor file in Word, I get gibberish.  I did some research online and found out that there is a Microsoft tool called Works 6-9 Converter which allows one to open Works files in Word.

I downloaded the Works 6-9 Converter tool from the Microsoft Support website and installed it on my PC.  However, when I subsequently attempted to open a Works word processor file in Word, a dialog box appeared with the error message "Word cannot start the converter Wks9Pxy.cnv" and the file did not open properly (i.e., I got gibberish).

I did a little more research online and found out that uninstalling the Works 6-9 Converter, then downloading and installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package, and finally reinstalling the Works 6-9 Converter may correct this problem.  I followed these steps, but unfortunately when I attempt to open a Works word processor file in Word, I get the same error message and the file does not open properly. ... INFO ONLY for those suddenly having "no response" with MS Office 2003/2007 Word:

Weeks ago I suddenly got a problem with Microsoft Word (Office 2003) usually failing to respond , unable to open or save files, and just "hourglass thinking". In fact I frequently had to go to Task Manager to close it. Tried everything I could think of and read in sites (renaming "normal.dot", reloading MS Office 2003, loading MS Office 2007 with same result, removing Adobe 9 Pro that had been loaded a week before, using "repair" command.............and nothing worked. Finally I found a solitary blog input somewhere saying that the person with same problem on Vista resolved it by uninstalling "Office Live DD-on 1.4". I had installed that a few weeks before I discovered the problem and never used Office on Vista PC since installation. I uninstalled "Office Live Add-ON 1.4" after many hours of trying other things.............and PROBLEM FIXED!
On my XP laptop and desktop, that Add-On has no impact on Office programs but is apparently a problem with Vista. I did not see any such notice on Microsoft site.

Hi,

I am having problems opening microsoft word files (attachments/uploaded files.)
I am able to save the file to my computer and open them without problems.

The issue is when downloading a file and simply trying to open them from the internet ie as an email attachment. I have also uploaded a cv to a site and when i try and open this i get the same error message

"this file could not be found.
try one or more of the following
*check the spelling of the name of the document.
*Try a different file name
( gives directory path)

Its just strange im sure i could just open documents to view before without having to save everything.

Just to clarify when 'save as' to my machine the documents are perfect. Its just the 'open' function when i just want to quickly view an attachment will not find the file all of a sudden.
hope this makes some sense!

Any ideas??? thanks

If he trys to open the attachments directly from outlook, he receives the error "the messaging interface has returned an unknown error". No other attachments cause this problem, just .msg files. I have tried reinstalling Outlook but the problem still occurs. An Outlook 2003 user in our California office that is having problems opening attachments from one particular sender. When she tries to open an attached RTF file in an e-mail from that person, she gets the error message shown in the attached GIF file. She sent the RTF file to me and I could open it in Outlook 2003 with no problem. I sent the same RTF file back to her as an attachment to a new e-mail and she could open it with no problem.

She is running Windows XP Pro and says the problem started after rebooting this morning as part of installing automatic updates.

A Google search finds lots of people that get the same error message when opening attachments and the messages go away after clearing a randomly named cache area used by Outlook. I don't think the problem is the same in her case because she can still open attachments from other people with no problem but can't go back and open an attachment from that particular sender.

Any suggestions that I can send to her in an e-mail or walk through on the phone?

We have several end users who have reported the following problem:

While working in Excel, the user(s) will wish to send a file via email. They select File --> Send To --> Mail Recipient (as attachment) and get an error stating that Outlook was unable to open one or more attachments.

If the user saves the file locally (to their desktop or My Documents for example) and then creates a new email in Outlook, they are able to attach the file to the email (by choosing to insert attachment/clicking the paperclip) and send it in that way.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there a reason? Is there a way to fix it? Our users much prefer the shortcut of sending excel worksheets as attachments from within the program.

All the PCs are running Windows XP Professional and Office 2003.

This is a good one. One approach would be to narrow down culprits:
1. User - does this happen on other pcs? If you login does it do the same thing?
2. Computer - again is this happening elswhere to same user?
3. Software - Run a repair on office? If its the user profile it may not help.

It's a pain to have to open in webmail when I want to save files to my harddrive.

Would GREATLY appreciate any assistance in correcting this.

MS 2007 documents cannot be opened using MS Office 2003.

You can either get yourself a newer copy of MS Office or download and install a copy of Libre Office which will open all MS Office documents.

Libre Office is free, unlike MS Office.

I have a user running Windows XP and Office 2007 Professional Plus. With her Outlook 2007, she is having difficulties bringing up e-mails that have attachments. She uses the reading pane and when she clicks on a message with an attachement, the reading panes goes blank and it can take 10 to 15 seconds before the message appears in the reading pane window. Even after she has viewed the e-mail, when she clicks on it again it still takes 10 to 15 seconds for it to appear in the reading pane.

Any other e-mails are viewing fine with no issues. You click on them and they come up just fine.

We run Symantic Anti-Virus Corporate edition 9.0 but I did not see a feature on her program to disable e-mail scanning in case that was the issue for some reason.

No one else is having this issue.

Is there any settings or anything I can look for in Outlook that may resolve this issue?

I appreciate any and all help!

Have you tried turning off the attachment previewer?
Turn attachment previewers on or off
Attachment previewers that come with the 2007 Office release are on by default. If you don't want to use some or any of the attachment previewers, follow these steps to turn them off.

In Outlook, on the Tools menu, click Trust Center, and then click Attachment Handling.
Do one of the following:
To turn off all attachment previewers, click Turn off Attachment Preview.
To turn off a specific attachment previewer, click Attachment and Document Previewers, clear the check box for a previewer you want to turn off, and then click OK.
To turn them on, click to select the Turn off Attachment Preview or specific attachment previewer options.

I have a problem because I need to learn to use microsoft access for a test and the thing is I have Microsoft Office 2007 while the school has Offcie 2003. I really need to know if it is possible to switch from Microsoft Office 2007 back to Microsoft Office 2003 and how?

A:Microsoft Office 2007 -> 2003?

I don't know if it is possible to revert, but would the school be willing to allow you to download access 03 for home use as you are a student there? I know that at least some colleges allow this. If you haven't already asked them it won't hurt to do so.

edit: if they did allow this you would probably have to promise to uninstall the program when no longer a student.

There are probably easier ways (maybe a table, for instance) but you could insert (I have 2003 - don't know the 07 commands) an autoshape box (or two or more, as needed) after your word - then copy that/those and paste a duplicate after the rest of the words where you want them.

I click on an old XP word document and say "open with" and do a browse and go to winword.exe in Office12 which is under the program files of (x86) and it does not make the connection but I can open up a New Word document in 2007 then go to open and then I can open up any old word document. Try not browsing to the winword.exe, you are offered different programs in the "open with" dialog page. Just scroll down and choose "word". if it works then open again and choose "Always open with word option".

Recently,I borrowed my friend's USB memory stick to transfer files and my AVG Anti-Virus Professional found a virus (.dll) as i enter the contents of the USB
He says it is some visual basic application program so,just for security I quarantined it and deleted it
Then...a day after that
I opened a file on Microsoft Word 2007 just to see things good
But as i open it,Microsoft Word 2007 hanged
It didn't move actually (scrolling down doesn't work and it is non-responsive)
You can see the file in the work area
As then i was able to terminate the application
There was this file on my desktop that appeared immediately called "~$E Assignment" and it was a bit of transparent and it is a Microsoft Word 2007
Out of curiosity,I viewed it's properties but nothing came up valuable
I didn't even accessed it because I was highly inspecting it was malware
So i deleted the file But I'm wondering though, since I didn't came up with any searches on the internet about the file,Is it malware?
Also,Corel Draw X3 seems to be running in background...as i open security task manager it says it is some driver thing even if the main windows didn't show up and haven't even opened it
After some time, the process was gone so it didn't show up in the Task Manager

Hi there,

I'm facing a werid issue. We're shifting from win xp to win 7 in our place. So we installed win 7 and most of the major softwares e.g. office 2007, firefox, adobe on one particular system and then imaged the entire installation. Now the installtions went fine and everything, but the issue now is that out of the office suite ms word keeps crashing. I uninstalled the suite and reinstalled a fresh copy, but the problem is still there. When I load the other office modules like powerpoint, excel, access etc they work fine. MS word takes lomg time to load and when it does, it crashes at the first instance of any command giving like opening a document. This particular issue is going one with at least 4 computers. So i was wondering whether there was a fault with the imaging? but the rest of the computers we imaged are working fine. So if anyone could help me out. Please?

I have a 9 chapter document that I have numbered accordingly. Each chapter is numbered with chapter number followed by page number. For ex. 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, etc. My problem is that all chapters numbering sequence is correct except for chapter 2. Every page in that chapter stays at page 2-1 (in the footer). Can you please help me fix this problem.

A:Microsoft Word 2007 help

Check in the formatting of your footer. Is the 1 on a section page number counter? Or is it a set digit? The beginning of chapter two should have a section break (new page) via the Page Layout Tab, in the Page Layout Group. Chapter Three should be the same way. Then, in the footer of Chapter 2, add 2 Head and Footer Tab>Insert Page Number, not linked to the section above. The numbers should be in the correct increasing order now.

With Word, I have words that i use that are correct, but it keeps underlining them in red and i know you can add the words into its dictionary so that this doesn't happen for those words anymore. I forgot on where you do it, i know i should know as i've been using word since Office '95. I just always click on ignore. Someone did tell me once, but i need my memory refreshed.

A:Microsoft Word 2003 - Need Help

The easiest way I found was to run spell check and when the pop up dialog box appears on words not in Word's dictionary( red squigglies) , there is an option to ignore, change, etc., or "add to dictionary". It is there that I make a decision whether to add or not, and I add it to the general dictionary. Check the HELP to determine how to set up a *special* dictionary, if that is what you want to do, just for these words.
Hope this helps.

Hum.. You want to insert a mathematical expression in your text? Or do you want Word to calculate a quare root for you?

In case of the former, you have to install an Office component called Equation Editor.
If you have that, then you can do Insert->Object->Create New->Microsoft Equation

Otherwise, you can always draw the formula in Paint and then copy-paste to Word

Hello to all good people

Thanks in advance!

A:Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 on the same computer

It should be okay, but you'll have to be very careful how you do the installation:

1.  Watch every step, do NOT accept the defaults all the time.

2.  Install 2003 first, if you've not done it already.

3. The first thing you're asked, is WHERE to install.  Create a new folder name, instead.  So at the end of the path it gives you, instead of accepting 'Microsoft Office', instead type something like 'MSO2003' or whatever you'll easily remember.  MS always installs multiple nested directories with the same names, so if you're gonna use two versions, you want to change the ending folder name of at least, one of them.  (I have, for example, MS Office 2002 and 2003 on the same machine, so I renamed one of the directories MSO02, for that reason.)

4.  After installation, shut down, go walk for a few minutes and then turn the machine on again (soft reboot doesn't work well with Office).

5.  Do something else on your machine for awhile, don't just do the next thing as the 2007 installation.  Give Windows time to 'populate' all its references with recognition of the new installation.

6.  So maybe after an hour or so, you can now install 2007.  It will notice that you have 2003 installed, and offer to replace it.  Say no to that.

7.  It too will present you with a default directory which is the same as the default you saw in #3, and again you want to specify a uni... Read more

Hello,

I'm having a formatting issue with Word 2007.

The problem I am having is that the document is not holding the format when I reopen it or when I add blocks of text. The main problem comes in the reference sections of the document where tabbed indents are lost and spaces appear randomly between words. This causes the text to move throughout the document.

Very frustrating. Thanks so much for any and all suggestions.

A:Microsoft Word 2007 Problem

When you add blocks of text, before inserting, format it to the document format you already have. Another choice is in "Advanced" choose it as a Cut/Copy/Paste option. For the reopening problem, "Register" the title of the document choosing Formatted Text in the Auto Correct screen.

I checked the plug-in on back of tower and it was fine plus the keyboard was lit. I shut down the pc. This morning I can type again but wish to know what went wrong with Word 2007 and how to fix it. Microsoft Diagnostics Tool came up and ran tests. Could not ping my stmp or inbound and outbound mail. Is this some problem with Outlook? I never used it. I went to the Microsoft Office website and searched everything to find a solution and alot of the articles were for changing template, registry, etc. I don't want to do the wrong thing.

I have IE8 and it takes me to my AT&T homepage from desktop.

It seems you were temporarily disconnected. Report back to this thread if it happens again.

When I put the cd in to install Microsoft Word 2007, I immediately get the error "the language of this installation package is not supported by your system." This did not happen on my laptop. It installed fine there, so it is not the cd.

First thing I did was chkdsk. I have went in add/remove. Have no other Office installed. I have tried turning off firewall, etc., still immediately get the message.
Language/Regional setting are at English.

Any ideas on what to check or how to get this to install on my desktop. Running windows xp sp3

Hi.

I installed Microsoft Word '07 on to my HP laptop about a year ago. Come to think of it, maybe exactly a year. I got it off of a legit CD that was bought at a computer store. It's a real, non-trial Office '07. A few days ago I tried to open a document, and a message came up saying-
"Preparing to Install"
That's funny. So I decided to let it do it's thing and install whatever it needed to install. Then this came up-
"This update package could not be opened. Verify that the update package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer update package."
Now whenever I try to open a Word doc that message comes up. I don't know what to do and I am pretty concerned. I bought the product! I don't want to buy another one!

Know what I mean?

If anyone knows what I can do to help this problem, I would really appreciate it. Thanks, RexRaxer

I recently got a new computer which has Microsoft Office 2007.  I don't know how to use Microsoft Word 2007, so I installed Word 2002 on this computer.  The problem is, if I try to open a document with Word, the computer automatically wants to use 2007 unless I manually open 2002 first.  I have even tried removing Word 2007 from Office 2007 without removing the other features of Office, but when I try to open a document in Word I get a prompt to configure Word 2007, again unless I manually open 2002 before opening the document.  Can I fix this?  I haven't used the other Office programs yet, but I really don't want to remove them.

If you right click on a document and select "Open with" and then "Choose default program" you might be able to set the default program to Word 2002.

When I opened Word documents, I would receive the message, "There was a problem sending the command to the program." I tried changing the compatibility for the program to Vista Service Pack Two and then Vista Service Pack One. In both cases, that fix worked only for the document that I opened immediately after changing the compatibility. I uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft Office 2007, but the same message appeared when I opened document. Using regedit, I deleted the ddeexec key from HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.12\shell\Open\ddeexec without exporting the key first. Afterwards, the application would open without the message appearing, but the document would not open. Finally, using Notepad, I created a registry file using the information from http://www.dilloway.co.uk/reg/del-ddeexec.reg and merged the file into the registry. There was no change from the previous fix.

How can I fix the problem? Preferably, I would like a solution that does not involve uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Office 2007 as I do not have a disc of the program and therefore must spend time and data downloading the program from the Internet before reinstalling.

Thank you for any help that can be provided.

Welcome to the forum. How are you opening the document from word or from an email or from explorer?

Hi,

I've opened a document (.doc file) with Microsoft Office Word 2007.
The document is all written in Hebrew, and I have the Hebrew Language Pack that I've downloaded using Windows Vista's Windows Update application.

So, back to Word 2007.

For some reason, the "Find" button, located in Home>> Editing, is grayed.

When I click the "Find button, two options show up, and the first of them is grayed and I can't select it:

"Find..."
"Go To..."Click to expand...

Why is it grayed?
I just want to find a few words, and I don't understand why such simple action is not possible.

Thank You!
We are sorry, but we are unable to complete your request.
The following problem(s) exist:

There was a problem processing your key request

but right below it, it says

BECAUSE YOU HAVE PURCHASED A NEW LICENSE FOR OFFICE 2007 SOFTWARE, YOU MUST PRESS THE ‘Download Now’ BUTTON BELOW IN ORDER TO RECEIVE AND USE THE SOFTWARE. YOU MAY ONLY USE THE PRODUCT KEY WITH THIS SOFTWARE

now ive looked, and ive had friends look, and none of us see the "download now" button...im in afghanistan so its hard to call microsoft during their hours cause of the missions i go on..i need this program for my college classes, and now i think i might have to drop at least 2 classes because of this...hopefully i wont have to though..

i also never recieved an email receipt. i guess i should just stay up and call microsoft huh...

hopefully it dont have to come to that, but maybe i missed something? or maybe the key will be emailed when they fix the "problem" with generating it??
