Capitals Lock in Open Office.

Q: Capitals Lock in Open Office.

This annoying problem, thankfully, only occurs occasionally. While rushing through typing a document in Writer, I must do something wrong without realising it. Suddenly the Capitals lock comes on, and I cannot get it off. In order to get lower case letters, I have to put put on Capitals Lock, and vice versa. The only way I can cure it is by doing a restart, and that is such a nuisance. Any suggestions? Allan

I use Open Office word processor and spreadsheet, and I am very happy with them. I am having a small problem with Open office word processor, or Writer, as I think it is called. I would like to have the facility to switch font quickly and easily to small capitals as is possible in MS Word. Does anyone know how to do this? Allan

Hi all,

Recently had perfectedsecurity virus that hijacked my homepage. Followed some previous threads on here and seem to have killed it.

Used ATF cleaner, Smitrem and ewido but not sure if advice was all applicable to me.

At the same I developed a problem where I'm getting random characters and capitals inserted whenever I type anything anywhere. The cursor also jumps to other lines etc.

Has just taken 5 mins to type this single line. Without constant correction it would have said this......

'hWES SINGLE LINEHas just taken 5 mins tweboo type tp0'

Using XP home edition SP2 on a recently purchased notebooK.

Hope someone can help.

Open Office not responding normally.. It said it crashed said it would repair document but went round and round and round some more, never repairing the document. An email with a Microsoft Word document could not be opened.

A:Open Office not responding - delete Open Office? How?

Well you'd uninstall it. I don't think the process is any different than uninstalling other software but you can take a look at this:http://www.wikihow.com/Uninstall-Op...(Don't click on any of the links there.) Then you can attempt a reinstall. Make sure the version you're installing is compatible with windows 8.

I understand that if a user installs Open Office on a machine with conventional Office 97-2003 that Open Office will use its own suite of products for each application. (Unless the user ops to use Office to open the applications by unchecking the corresponding application boxes during Open Office's installation.) But if a user chooses Open Office as the default for applications on a system that also has Office 2007 on it, how does Open Office deal with this if the OO applications remain checked as the default?

Does the current version of OO even understand how to DEAL with the new Office 2007? I understand that OO can not read docx documents, which is the default for Word 2007, (although this can be easily changed back to doc.) I found out that Open Office 3.0, scheduled for release this fall, will be able to read docx documents. What's so great about docx docs anyway?

Using my example, assume this situation on a new Windows Vista machine. (fresh installs of each program or Office 2007 OEM (factory installed.) What behavior would be expected here?

On the "Age" thing, don't even go there we have members in their 90's who get shot down in flames for calling the "Age" Card. I'm just 71 and, more than likely, there's a 17 year old reading this.
Unfortunately, in this Forum, once you've hit the "Post" button. That's what you've get, unless you grovel to FE and he makes the change with his Silver Mouse. But don't press your luck, he might weaken the once, but is unlikely to weaken a second time!
The technology is available but using it makes for sloppy composition and allows people to Post one thing and then change it, after others have replied, which might make them look stupid, which few of us admit too. Just bought a new laptop with Windows7 64bit installed-my first exposure to Windows7. I had Office 2007 installed on my old Dell 32 bit machine. I had also recently pruchased Office 2010 and installed that on my new machine.

Now, when I try to open those 32bit 2007 files with 64bt 2011, Iget an error message that "no picture file is available", or words to that effect. When I try to "open with", the only option displayed is "Microsoft Office" with an icon that looks like a picture file. When I try to browse to the proper office program(Excel, for example), there are none of teh Office suite programs displayed, only "Microsoft Office".

I can navigate seperately to the proper progran, Excel, etc., and drag the file into the application, and it opens, and all seems to work OK. I "save as" the proper application file, but it still will not open with double-click on the file name.

I have not seen this particular item in the forums and would appreciate very much some help in fixing this issue.

Thanks,

Grubby

Hi,

I have a 2003 SBS machine and have various clients connected through exchange to get mail. Users typically leave outlook running the whole day while they work on programs such as access/excel.

I have noticed that on some machines excel and word docs open very quickly over the network until outlook is left open and connected to exchanged. we are opening the files on a variety of win 2003 servers, however when they have their outlook exchange account connected I have seen the docs take anywhere from 3-5x the normal amount of time to open.

I have also noticed that opening email attachments such as xls and doc are also very slow while connected to exchange, but it seems to vary from file to file, some seem better than others.

does the connection to exchange complicate the process of opening docs on remote machines or does it sound like I have a misconfiguration somewhere? I would like to get the performance of opening a file (say a xls) on a network share to be the same as it is when outlook is not connected to exchange.

I do not have these PCs running in offline or cached mode as we have a shared calendar that does not display correctly when I enabled these features. Clients are running office 2003,2007,2010. Turning on cached mode does not seem to make much if any of a difference btw.

Thanks for any insight you may have

I'm running Windows 7 on my new computer, which came with a trial version of Office 2010. Rather than buy the full version when the trial expired, I installed the Office 2003 I had on my old -- now dead -- computer. I now find that I can't open the Word and Excel files I created with the 2010 version. My view is that the F-Lock key is a hardware toggle on the keyboard electronics, not a state of a registry key. While I sympathise, I have doubts you could accomplish it in the PC registry.

I have been running Windows 7 64bit Ultimate RTM, with Office 2007 for about 2 or 3 months. For the first two months or so it ran rock solid. Before that, even the Beta ran great. But over the last month or so it has been getting buggier and buggier. Primarily with the Office 2007 applications Outlook and Excel. I have had similar problems with Abobe Framemaker also.

When in Office or Excel, the application locks up. Task manager will start, but it will not kill the application. Other applications and the OS still run, but Office (or Framemaker as the case may be) is dead in the water. The only way to fix it is to hit the reset button. This is now happening 5 or 6 times a day. I have two RAID arrays on this machine, so boot time is considerable.

Has anybody else run into this problem?

I looked this up online and it said that this was caused by installing as a user, not an administrator. So I uninstalled office entirely, booted, and reinstalled as administrator.

Hello,

I am running Office 2003 on Windows 7. My PC is only 6 months old and everything has been running like butter. All of a sudden Office files open slowly when double-clicked from their respective locations (they would normally blink up). If I open Word or Excel and then open the files from there, they open quick. Outlook on the other hand, is just slow to load up...which it wasn't before.

I did a ton of research online and couldn't get a clear fix. My thoughts are:
Anti Virus? (I'm using AVG Free)
Ad-Aware Free? (Ad-Watch live is on...however it was on before)
Windows update or office update?

But obviously I'm here to get your thoughts. It's a pain in the ass when I bought a new PC so it could perform quick, and now spreadsheets and email take 20 seconds or more to open.

On my Win7 PC I have open office and on my WinXP Laptop I have Office 2007. Both have one major problem: the spell-checker does not work regularly for English and does not work at all for other languages, e.g., French, Spanish, or German.

I did read other threads regarding this problem and I did go through the routine of Tools-option-writing aids; and marked "check spelling as you type." I also have my abc on the menu bar checked and the adjacent ABC is underlined with a red wavy line (which means the spell-checker is active).

The problem is that when I activate the Eng language in my task bar and type a wrong word, it will be marked with a wavy red line-- which means my spell checker works for English. Now while I still have English on my language bar, if I type a word in Spanish, the spell-checker doesn't work because the foreign word is not marked with red-wavy line. If I change the language in my task bar to Spanish and write a wrong Spanish word, again the spellchecker doesn't seem to work.

Anybody has any idea what seems to be the problem?

I greatly appreciate your help.

Hi,

I have a client that has Office 365. They have two people with this issue. It's not really a huge problem but more as an annoyance. Whenever they go to open a document through an Office product (Word/Excel: File>Open>Computer>Browse) the documents appear but they're missing the icons next to their name. There's barely any information on it when Googling this and they all seem to lead to dead ends for us. The two I have found are http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/172/t/194050.aspx and http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/d4b70639-eda4-49b4-b5e5-e0ffd87b16c5/word-and-excel-file-and-folder-icons-missing-in-file-open-dialog-box?forum=officeitpro neither have resolved our issue. I have ran a repair on Office, re-installed office, recreated Windows icons, and opened the programs in Safe Mode to no avail. No Add-Ins are causing the issue. You can see the icons to the left of the files in Internet Explorer when going to Documents. Any help would be appreciated!

Hey All,

Here is my issue. The Company we consult for has not transitioned all of the way to Office 2007. We have a number of machines that still have Office 2003. Compatibility Pack works on almost all issues.

Current issue is one of our users received a PowerPoint 2003 that has embedded PowerPoint 2007 files. When the user opens the PowerPoint 2007 file Office 2003 shuts down. He has to download the 2007 file to his desktop.

From what I can see this is because the file conversion process shuts down Office 2003 before attempting to open the PowerPoint 2007 file.

Another issue that may be complicating the error is we had to run a Fixit patch from Microsoft that was causing Excel, Word and PowerPoint to be scanned which caused long opening times. I don't remember the KB article for that one at the moment but will find it if I need to.

Thanks for any help in advance.

This computer doesn't have Word installed so I installed Office Start (not knowing the difference). Now every OO document on my desktop is taken over by Word - literally with a big W. I can't open it unless I agree to a long list of rules, including personalized ads, which I don't want.

I realize that this is not primarily a Windows7 problem, but it just bothered me to see one program stopping me from setting the file associations for another program. And I need to vent.

I have been running both Libre Office (LO) and Open Office (OO) for months now, not a heavy user, just trying to keep both going while I figure which one I liked best. These apps share file extensions, and are very file compatible, and I had always been able to open the same document in either

Both families of programs pinned to the Start Menu had, for months, contained file history of many documents, some documents showing as history in both app-families, and able to be opened in either LO or OO. Yesterday, I upgraded Open Office. First thing I noticed, the LO apps pinned to the start menu had their document history icons changed to OO icons. Sure enough, these documents, in the history list of a pinned LO app, open in OO. Rats, I think--I guess I will have to re-assign the extensions to LO. . . . No can do! I have never had this happen before, but I now when I use "Open With" on a file with the shared extensions, (.ods, .odt,...) then "Choose Default Programs...", then "browse" to set a new default, the LO app does not stick. So far, I am unable to set the file association to any of the LO apps.

I have occasionally seen software, usually pretty sleazy and undesirable software, that would hijack file associations, would take-over as much of the compute... Read more

Copy or cut the shortcut.

Go to C:\windows\start menu and delete the old Open Office Document Shortcut and paste the new one in there.

Most here use Open office. It has been found to be compatible with the famous and expensive MS product Office.
It has been used by many and they are satisifed. I never heard of the other, which says something in itself.
The most important feature that you want is comapatiblity with MS Word, as most people use that. You want to be sure that you can send them doucments and it can be read. Well, you have that with Open Office.

I don't use text documents that often but did download Open Office and I like it. But I shouldn't need both OOo and Windows, should I? I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it came with Windows Office Powerpoint Viewer 2007. Can I just uninstall that program?

I LIKE being able to uninstall Windows stuff because--as I understand--they tend to take up a lot of space. But OOo is 374 MB and Windows is only 133 MB. The "Viewer" looks like it may be an introductory abridged version of the real thing and I suspect I don't need it. I think it's what it is--only a viewer--as I see nowhere I can compose a doc.

Can I dump it?

Thanks, as always for your generous help.

A:Can Open Office let me remove Windows Office?

Powerpoint Viewer is independent of MS Office. It was designed for people, who don't have Office, but wanted to open Power Point presentations.
It's up to you. You can keep it just for that purpose, or use OO to open pps files.

Office XP tries to Install when I start WORD/EXCEL in Office 2007.

I upgraded from Office XP Pro to Office 2007 Standard. Whenever I start WORD, EXCEL or POWERPOINT, Office XP is looking for PRORET.MSI to try to install. If I close it, Office 2007 apps open normally. This happens every time I open any of the three apps mentioned if a copy is not already open. BTW, this does not happen when I open OUTLOOK 2007.

Can anyone tell me how to stop this irritating occurrence? Thanks!!

Assuming you had Office XP installed at some point. You need to be sure it was uninstalled properly. Try OrkTools , it comes with an unistall wizard, if you can't uninstall from Programs and Features in Control Panel.

I can't seem to be able to convert back to 2003 MS Office. I switched the default to OpenOffice 3.2 to give it a try, but I want to switch back until I can play with OpenOffice a little.
I went to, Default Programs-Set your Default Programs, but the only MS program that is listed there is MS Outlook. It's not showing Word or Excel. I definitely didn't want to try clicking on Outlook hoping that word or excel are within this same heading. I don't use Outlook and I didn't want to mess up my email program.

I've never had much problem putting Office Libre or Open Office on a computer.
A neighbor needed help with an HP Printer.
OK, found the software downloaded and installed.
(this is a Walmart HP Computer, cheap and slow, Windows 10)
He wanted to manipulate documents and print.
I believe he needs a basic word processor.
Attempted to download install both without success.
Anyone know this problem? Have a solution?

Installed on my PC I have an old copy of Microsoft Office 2000. I use Word for my documents and made a spreadsheet on Excel for a game I play, other than that I have I have no knowledge of using the other features of this suite such as Access, Outlook or Powerpoint.

While downloading the latest Java update I noticed an ad for a freeware program called OpenOffice.org and after Googling it found that as far as I can see it is the same sort of thing as the Office 2000 suite only newer and probably more modern.

My question is, would the Open Office.org program be better than my outdated Office 2000 Suite and would I still be able to read my word documents etc using this program or would I have to keep Office 2000 as well.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice offered.

UC Berkeley student and I'm supposed to be writing my thesis which is due soon (tomorrow actually), but am instead entirely inconvenienced by all the computer virus issues I'm running into. I need a solution SOON. I downloaded Avast while in Safe Mode and then had it run prior to restarting my laptop in regular mode and that seemed to solve the bulk of my issues. I've tried everything, including various scanners like Avast, Win Patrol, SpyDoc, ComboFixer, GoRedFix, and more but many don't catch whatever it is and others that do detect it just can't seem to get rid of it...I had a huge mess of problems and I think they are solved except for these: 1-Google searches are redirected, unless I "ctrl" click cashe several times at once. In that case usually one of the pages will be a proper page instead of a scam search site or a random junk site.2-OpenOffice docs aren't opening. (They did right after I first ran Avast, but not any more.)3-This virus somehow crept over to my boyfriend's computer. He hadn't downloaded any programs all month, but yesterday his Google searches began being redirected too and his computer exhibits everything I mentioned in problem 1 but not 2. Good morning,

I just did a Clean install of my Windows 10 Home last night after it developed several corrupt files that I couldn't repair. I previously had Microsoft Office 2013 Professional Plus on my computer but I somehow think that could have something to do with my corrupted files (not letting me utilize Windows Update successfully).

My question: Does the free 'Open Office' program have a program I could utilize to open Power Point Presentations that I had saved on an External Hard Drive? If so, it would keep me from installing Office 2013 again.

When I had Office installed I only used it for the Word Program and to open Power Point programs.

Any ideas?

Thanks and regards,

Just recently began having Word, Excel, and Powerpoint [Office 2003] lock up if I try to choose a file to open or a picture file to insert, or do a file save, etc using the "Look in:" and "Save in:" drop-down menus. The programs just hour-glasses there forever with no error messages. I Have the latest updates to Office 2003. I uninstallled the 908531 windows security update of 4/11/06 and instaled the newer version of 4/25/06, WindowsXP-KB908531-v2-x86-ENU.exe.

I've uninstalled anything releated to HP printers that I can find [we have a network shared HP Officejet 7210]. Device manager looks clean.

System is a P4 2.4 GHz, 1 gig ram pc. Same thing has happened on a second pc on my home network! Scans with AVG, Spyware blaster, Adaware, Spybot S&D, and SuperAntispyware turn up nothing.

Ran Office 2003 Repair, said it did, but did not help this issue.

I recently did Disk Cleanup and Error Checking, so I might have removed a program I needed to click open and read my Open Office text files.

Which is better between this 2?Can open office such as Ms Word file can open all existing Word document for MS word 2003,2007 and 2010?

A:Open Office VS Office 2007

In order to answer that question we would need to know what you define as "better". For instance, if your main consideration is price then OpenOffice is better since it is free to download. However, if you need the ability to create and run VBA macros, then Office 2007 is better since OpenOffice doesn't support VBA.

When I tried moving them back to the desktop, the MS Office files would not read the OpenOffice Excel equivalent.

AFAIK, both the MS Office and OpenOffice versions are the latest.

Hello, and thank you for any help. My computer had a virus that CatByte helped with back in December and January. I believe the same problem has returned. After booting up my computer, I am not able to open ANY programs by clicking on the icons. Instead, I must open the task manager and shutdown different programs until I am finally able to open something. I have run Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware - neither of which have found anything. I believe this virus came in on a bogus Adobe update nearly a year ago and I've been battling it on and off since. I did find in the "Scheduled Tasks" folder of the control panel a scheduled Adobe update daily. I have deleted that, but still need to get rid of this problem.I ran the DDS scan and will paste it and attach the required file. However, I have not yet been able to successfully run the gmer scan. Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

Here is the setup: Win 2k server, shared folder 'Documents', clients - Win XP Pro, every desktop has a shortcut to 'Documents' on server. 'Documents' folder with all files and directories was copied to server from Win XP shared drive and then shared.

Here is the problem:
User opens Excel spreadsheet or Word document on a shared drive, makes changes, closes it, then, after a while, tries to open the same exact file. At this moment message shows up 'File In Use', and it says that this file is locked for editing by the same user. No other users have this document or spreadsheet open at this time.

Another user was trying to save changes and got a message preventing him to save changes to the original file, user then saved it as a file with a different name. Then tried to delete the original file, file disappeared and reappeared when the folder was open the next time.

This doesn't happen with every file. I selected all files and folders in the 'Documents' folder and tried to uncheck 'Read-only' attribute, it appeared shaded and checked, I checked it and then uncheck it and applied to sub-folders. That didn't help. These files keep popping up.

In order to solve this problem I go to open sessions on the server and kill session for that particular user. Then user is able to open the file without any messages.

What to do in this situation? What is the problem here?

New ASUS Laptop with Vista 64 bit Home Premium and Office Standard 2007 Upgrade. Office Standard was installed by Geek Squad. Then, when MANY MANY problems cropped up within a couple weeks, they reformatted the drive and reinstalled Vista and Office Standard again. (Don't get me started about Geek Squad!). Two versions of IE8 are installed: 32bit (path under "Program Files (x86)") and 64bit (path under "Program Files").

Open 64bit IE8 directly and it works just fine. However, open a link (such as from an Outlook received email) and both IE8 32bit and IE8 64bit open simultaneously and lock up. Can only close the two IE8 apps via Task Manager. Can't uninstall the IE8 32bit as it is not listed within Uninstall. Manually open IE8 64bit and copy/paste the url from the email, very inconvenient but no problem.

Geek Squad says "give us more money and maybe we can fix it", even though the problem occured immediately after their Office Standard installation. Ideas?

Hi,

Basically I have IE/win explorer windows sized to a preferred size and width, but if they are open on the desktop and my computer locks after inactivity or I manually lock it, when I input my password and unlock the desktop all the windows have shrunk and moved to the top right of the desktop and I have to manually resize them all again

I just cannot find a solution to this and I have to continually resize them back to how I have them.

Also when I open certain windows programs, they always open to the top right and never in the center of the screen, which is annoying, so I have to drag to the center to see them properly, is this a bug in windows or can this be fixed?

Thanks for any help.

If you don't remember the password then there are most probably two chances that unless you can remember the password, both are easy, slim and none.
That's the reason for security software, not allowing access unless you know the password.

A:compatibility of "open office" suite and Microsoft Office Suite?

Hello alpad,

When she saves the document to send to the professor, which format is she saving it in? If she saves it as the default .odt, Word won't be able to open it. In the small window by "Save as Type" she needs to click the arrow to cause the drop down menu to come up, then select the proper Word version to save it as. My version of Open Office has the following MS Word options:

MS Word 97/2000/XP (.doc)
MS Word 95 (.doc)
MS Word 6.0 (.doc)

There is also an XML version. The latest version of Open Office, version 3, is also compatible with MS Word 2007; however, I don't know how that appears in the drop down menu as I don't yet have that version of Open Office.

Once she has chosen the proper Word format, then she needs to save the document. This is the version she should submit to the professor.

Last night, I experienced a strange series of occurences on my computer (Windows XP/Compaq Presario) that had inadvertently ended - and I am not sure if it will resume - or perhaps even turn into something worse.

I think I might have picked it up while doing research on some websites for proposition bets for the upcoming Super Bowl. I noticed when I was typing, that I was doing so in all caps - even though my Caps Lock was disabled.

When I enabled Caps Lock, it then started typing all lower case letters.

Other keyboard symptoms: the period and the comma were not available, only able to type > or < with or without the Shift key. Also, the Shift key didn't work with most keys for characters. There were also issues in selecting text in a field.

Another nuisance during this period is that when I clicked on a link, it would open up a new browser window, as opposed to the link opening in the same window. I thought this problem was exclusive to Firefox (the browser I was using at the time this all started) but I also opened up Internet Explorer and found out that this was happening there, too.

Frustrated, I restarted the computer. I made sure no keys were stuck. When I rebooted, it appeared I was still experiencing these weird symptoms. I had double clicked on an icon on my desktop, it had selected more than one icon and opened the first one to the right.

I immediately ran Spybot. Surprisingly, during the run, it appeared that thes symptoms spontaneously discontinue... Read more

Another nuisance during this period is that when I clicked on a link, it would open up a new browser window, as opposed to the link opening in the same window.

Frustrated, I restarted the computer. I made sure no keys were stuck. When I rebooted, it appeared I was still experiencing these weird symptoms. I had double clicked on an icon on my desktop, it had selected more than one icon and opened the first one to the right.

I immediately ran Spybot/ AVG. found nothing - problem stops at random.
Good news, for now, is that a Spybot search found nothing major, and an Anti-Malware scan turned up empty.
I guess my question is, what should I do if I find myself typing the wrong characters again today?

And has anyone else experienced this problem? The more people know about this, the better! ... Read more

I am still using MS Office 2003. I realize soon I will need to upgrade. Since I am on the cheap side, I was wondering if Open Office would be a good substitute. Could I still use all of my MS files? Is there a way to import the MS files to Open Office? Any info that you could give me on Open Office would be appreciated.

Thanks,

The files produced by Microsoft Office 2007 are also called Office Open XML, OpenXML, OOXML, Office 12, .docx, .docm, .xlsx, etc. (other extensions). OpenOffice.org 3 can open these files, but it cannot save in these formats.

That's from their FAQ section and I'm pretty sure that the file types that they save in cannot be read by MS Office

Ok, so I have openoffice.org and every time I go to open it under my taskbar, it wants to not open. I press control alt delete together and then task manager to see what is going on. I find under processes, that openoffice is taking up about 50% of my dual-core cpu. When I check the gauges on my desktop, core 1 and core 2 are both 100% maxed out. What is going on here? I just want open office to open normally. Instead, it won't open at all.

Hey I was thinking of giving this suite a shot.
It looks like Star Office is realy Open Office supported by Sun. Am I way off on this?
Also wondering for basic home office documents and such what opinions of Open Office there are on 7. being able to shuffle documents back and forth to a PC with MS Office (Word). And, if anyone has tried the speech - dictation in 7 with the writer.
Thanks!

A:Open Office Q

Open office and star office are more or less the same thing although slight variations may exist due to their separate development cycles.

As for compatibility OOo can load DOCx format but currently cannot save the format, I believe that the same applies for XLSx and PPTx.

OOo fully supports the 2000/XP/2003 office formats which are still the standard for most organisations.

Microsoft office 2007 does not have support for OOo formats but Office 2010 does.

Although I have not tried the speech functions this should work in OOo as this is designed to be application independent

Guys,

Has anyone used Open Office, which is avaliable at www.openoffice.org ? This is a UK competitor to MS Office and Coral's Office Suite? Do you like it, how does it compare to the other products? Is a spellchecker pre-installed on the Write program? (The compatable for MS Word.) What are the pros and cons of this software?

The wife’s laptop and mine are connected thru a local wireless network.

I have a DELL Inspiron 6400 with Intel 2 core and run Vista Home. I use MS Office 2000 for all my needs and FoxMail for my emails.

The wife has an HP with Intel Celeron and also runs Vista Home. She uses Open Office 3.0 for all her needs and she has HotMail for her emails.

We both use IE 8.0

When she tries to send me an Email with an attachment which is written with Open Office, she gets a “Banned message” notice and the email does not go thru. On my Email I also get a “Banned message”

However when she sends me just a message which is written on HotMail or a photo attachment the message goes thru.

Any ideas why she can’t send Open Office attachments?

Thank you

I'm having a conversion problem sending mail with Open Office
attachments to computers with Microsoft Word. I've tried the help
site but it doesn't help. (too many help0s there) There must be a
very easy solution to this that I'm missing.
I'm mainly concerned with Open Office word processor.

Edit: I'm using a computer with Mepis 6.5 Operating System.

A:Open Office

Convert the OO.o file to either a .pdf or a .doc file, since most people either have Acrobat Reader or MS Office on their system. Simply open the OO.o document and use the File/ "save as" function to replicate the text as either file type to your hard drive, and then send that.
OO.o can read (open) Word files, but currently Word cannot convert (read) OO.o file types.
Hope this helps,
John

I came across this thread:

http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/784338-microsoft-office-2007-wont-open.html

but it didn't have any answers.

I'm having the same problem with Office 2007. One day all of my Office programs are working find and the next they will not open

I tried to open them via right click but it only wanted to open previous versions and I don't have older versions.

I've even tried reinstalling but it won't fix the problem.

Any ideas would be great.

I am thinking about Open Office for my daughters notebook if I can't get the student Microsoft Office 2003 as that is all that she needs.
However it seems to be an elusive proggy now that 2007 is out.
I have been in and out of different forums and seen some discussion about the program having some problems????

I really would like to have Outlook instead of Express for her as she has a Palm but the price of 2007 and her need for its bells and whistles is simply not warranted.

I would appreciate experienced members comments as usual they are always like a good thermometer!!!!

Kind Regards.

A:Open Office?

My free advice -the program is free, why not try it and make your own decision? If you go to other forums that discuss MS Office 2007, you'll read about problems with it, too, as you can about virtually any program. Open Office has it's own forum - http://www.oooforum.org/forum/h e r e, if you haven't checked it out already.I use Open Office on one PC, and haven't had any problem, although my usage is very light.
