# Can't Open MS Project 2007 file in MS Project 2010

Q: Can't Open MS Project 2007 file in MS Project 2010

Does anyone know how I can open a MS Project 2007 file in MS Project 2010. The file that was sent to me is .mpp and created in 2007 but I own 2010 and it says Project cannot open file.

A: Can't Open MS Project 2007 file in MS Project 2010

You will need to convert the file or it will be displayed in Compatibility Mode with reduced functionality. Then, you can resave the project as a 2010 format.

Opening Project MPP files from different versions

MS Project Server files are saved in Project 2007 format .mpp and then re-opened in MS Project 2010. When the file is opened in MS Project 2010 the progream switches to compatibility mode but there are no tasks or project details - it is a blank schedule. I can open the same file in MS Project 2007 at home, but cannot open it at work on my laptop in MS Project 2010 (opens but is blank).

Any ideas what the issue might be? Belwo are my laptop details.

I have a user that has been using Project 2003 for several years. He last used one particular file in November, and now when he tries to open it he gets this error message:
Project cannot open the file
--check that the file name & Path are correct
--check that the file format is recognized by project
it is a .mpp file, and was created with and had all modifications done with project 2007. The only thing that has changed in the last several months is an upgrade from Win7 Ultimate to Win7 Prof.
I have tried opening this file on other computers and I get the same error message.
I have done a new/fresh install on a computer - same problem
I have repaired and also removed/reinstalled - same problem.

When I try to open my .mpp files that I created with Project 2010, I get an error message indicating that the 2007 version (I doesn?t have Office 2007 on my PC) is trying to open them and that I need to install a converter. Any suggestions on how I can make 2010 to open my Project files? (I'm running Windows 7, if that matters.)

Hi there, I've got a mpp file from MS project 4, but project 2000 can't read it unless I convert the file to the mpx format. I don't have a version of Project 4 with me to do the conversion. How else can I read it?

The original file was created in 2010 and saved in 2007 format - sent to me - I worked on it saved several times but when finally exited did not save. When reentered the file is blank however on properties shows it is still 655kb.

Hi, I am having a really strange issue, basically, since Thursday 2 users are struggling to open a project document correctly but one user is able to open the document correctly and use it fine. They are all running the same versions of office and patched equally. I have tried uninstalling, ccleaning and reinstalling project on one of the faulty machines but still having no luck at all. It is a really difficult situation to explain but basically the drop-down options aren't working for one column. Now it wouldn't be a problem to recreate the options, we tried this but after closing and opening the document a couple more times the problem returned on 2 of the 3 machines that use the file. I have tried restoring a couple of versions of the document, one from Thursday when it was working and also I tried as a test restoring the oldest version of the document in shadow copy but they both had the same problem. If anyone could help it would be most appreciated. I have also attached 2 screenshots to try and explain the situation a bit better.Best regards!

A:Microsoft Project 2010 no longer opens the file

Also you may have a look into the MS Project Organizer, if you see something strange there. The organizer you can also use to copy content from one file to another. After option 2 and 3 you can check, if the problem still exists. This way you find out, if the global template is possibly corrupt or if the project file has a problem. In this case, you need a Microsoft Project service for online repair. I hope you can fix file on this service.https://onlinefilerepair.com/en/project-repair-online.html

I have a coworker who has a Project file he made in a previous version - I think it was 2003. He has opened and used this file in the current version (2010) almost daily for the last several months. Today, for some reason, he is getting an error saying the file cannot be opened and that files saved in a version earlier than project 98 can't be opened.
He can open all his other Project files, even others he created in v2003.

Any ideas? I have asked our I.T. dept to let me install a previous version on my test laptop so I can try to open it in v2003. But, they are hesitant and told me to see if I can figure out what is happening with the file first since today is the first time he has gotten the message.
So, I'm asking you if you have any ideas.
Thanks.

Hope someone can help me or direct me how to proceed. I cannot install MS Project 2010.

System: Windows 7 x64, with MS Office Professional 2010 and MS Visio 2010
already successfully installed and running (even Outlook is running well)

Installation proceeds to about 75% and I get Error 1402: Setup cannot open Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\8B1D70235E082D119BD50006794CED42\A752DC3423F4EDB4B9D3416E1EC03870. Make sure that you have permission etc. etc.

I have located the key using Registry Workshop. Initial message in "Change permissions" window is " No group or users have permission to access this object. However, the owner of this object can assign permissions."

Cannot assign permissions--cannot rename key--cannot delete key.

(Previously had tried to change permissions using Regedit--unsuccessful also)

Tried to run set-up.exe directly from the DVD "Run as Administrator"--get the same error message.

Also tried to install Project in Safe Mode--same error message. Tried to rename and delete the registry in safe mode--still not allowed.

What is this registry key and why can I not change or at least get rid of it? What do I need to do to get Project installed?

Thanks much,
KLE

I have a project that was done with Visual Studio 2012 but when I try to open the solution file in a separate computer running Visual Studio 2010 it shows as "incompatible". Likewise, when I try to run the executable, a message pops up asking to install .Net 4.5.

I've looked around in forums for a way to convert, or 'downgrade', this project to VS 2010. I found a solution that worked from VS 2010 to VS 2008 and thought I would give it a try. I opened the .sln file in notepad and I changed the version number from 12.0 to 11.0 and Visual Studio 2012 to Visual Studio 2010. Once I saved it, the icon of the .sln file changed from the 2012-look to the 2010-look. I opened it and it ran fine under VS 2012. When I tried to open it in VS 2010 I got the same incompatible reading as before.

Can anyone tell me if there are other changes that need to be made to any of the files so that this project can open and execute with VS 2010?? It would probably be easier to upgrade the other computer to VS 2012 but this is for a school environment and it is not my call to upgrade any software.

I am having a problem with MS Project 2007 crashing whenever you try and perform a function within it. The application will load, an will even allow you to connect to your Project Server. However, whenever you try to do anything beyond that (ex: open a project schedule), the application will crash.

I have tried repairing, and re-installing Project. I have also tried un-installing & re-installing all of Office (with reboots in-between each step, just to be sure). Project has all of the available updates installed, including the Office 2007 SP1. It is running on a WinXP machine.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,
I've checked the archives but can;t find a relevant thread.

I currently have Office 2010 Pro on my laptop and am going to be purchasing MS Project. But am unsure which version is the safe bet.

Can I install Project 2013 on a laptop running Office 2010 or is that going to be a problem and I should stick with Project 2010?

I don't need the latest and greatest version of Project so for my functional needs Project 2010 will be fine, but I figured if I am going to buy it might be best to get the latest version?

Note: I did find something on another forum about Project 2013 using Sharepoint 2013 and that conflicts over-writes some sharepoint 2010 executables thereby causing issues with 2010 suite ... but I don't have Sharepoint on my laptop so doubt this is an issue in my situation.

Anyways whats the safest bet, I really don't want to deal with conflicts or software issues. Stick with Project 2010?

Thanks!

Office 2010 is the first to be available as either 32-bit or 64-bit. I had to uninstall Office FrontPage 2003 [32-bit] before I could install the 64-bit version of Office 2010. I would imagine the same would hold true for all Office applications.

Hi all

Before I install office 2010 can anyone say whether the download from technet includes VISIO and PROJECT 2010 or do these have to be obtained and installed separately.

I don't really want to "undo" my Office 2007 installation until I know that these programs are available.

It doesn't pay BTW to have "bits" of different Office releases -- I learned this the hard way -- keep ALL the components at the same level.

For example don't install Office 2007 while keeping ACCESS 2003 for example.

Is there anyone here who knows the in's and out's of Project Server 2007. I am stuck trying to gain access to sites created either thru a browser or Project Pro 2007.
I did the Basic install, which installed and created a new site after installation. It installed SQL express, SharePoint Services, and made the changes to IIS. I am now at the point where I can log on to the default site created PWA (Project Web Access). What I would like to finally get to is create a site called "company name" and be able to connect to it with either Project Pro 2007 or thru Web Access.
I have gone thru MS sites for the past week, and I even bought a book. All say to do what I have already done, but I still can not get Project Pro to even connect to the default site.

Any help or ideas, would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks

I have a scheduling problem which my lack of experience with MS Project won't allow me to resolve.
My project is scheduled from the start. The project is effectively the work of a small team over the course of a year.
I have added to my plan:

Durations
Dependencies
Constraints (only the bare minimum where tasks are actually fixed (meetings, events ,etc))
Resources (people only, no real materials to consider)
At this stage the vast majority of the work within the project occurs (as you would expect) at the beginning, or; “As Soon As Possible”.
Given that the work within the project is for a small team, most of the resources appear to be massively over allocated.
I have an idea of when I want the work to be completed during the year but have attempted and discarded the option of setting “Start No Earlier Than” or Finish No Later Than” constraints on my tasks as because:

Doing so still didn’t give me the schedule I wanted (was still over allocated even after levelling)
I want my plan to be as flexible as possible as I move forward. It may well be that some work finishes ahead of schedule and if I’ve set a SNET constraint on a task purely to give an indication of when I think it will/should happen, my plan won’t be able to move accordingly.
Most articles I’ve read on the matter suggest that over-constraining is a bad idea, probably due to the point raised above.
I want MS Project to schedule my tasks for me – I really thought that this was pa... Read more

Hi herebutlost,

Your 1. above says you have used levelling, did you do it manually over the whole project, did you clear previous attempts first ?
Important, did you restrict Levelling to only within slack (if so then remove that restriction).

I suggest this because Levelling is specifically to remove over-allocations.

Alternative method (this does not apply for Project 2007 and later versions) only for MS Project 2003...

Save the file in the Microsoft Project Database format:

1. Open your problem file (it may help to turn off automatic calculation if the file is reluctant to open).
2. Select File/Save As...
3. Save as type: Project Database (*.mpd) then click Save.
4. Close the file.
5. Re-open it from the .mpd file.
6. Select File/Save As... And save it as an .mpp file again.

OK, so, I'm in Computer Science (IT) so I have an entire course on how to use Microsoft Project 2007. They make us buy a little how-to book. I'm following that book as an homework.

So here is the problem. From the Resource Sheet, I choose a resource. Then, I go to Tools -> Change Working Time. I then click on the tab "Work Week". Then, I create a new exception for the resource. Then, in the boxes next to it, in the drop boxes, there's calendar to set when it begins and where it ends, right? Each time that I want to set the end day, Microsoft Project 2007 crashes automatically. It happens sometimes on the start day too.

Anyone can help with that?

P.S Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint are installed too, but in French. Project 2007 is in English.

EDIT

Ah... Project doesn't like it when we select Januray 1st to December 31st when we are January 10...

OK, so the solution was pleasantly simple.

I uninstalled Project 2007 and reinstalled it, using my (one-time) product key.
It installed, worked fine, and was activated immediately. It even retained all of my settings preferences and previous files list from before.
(You call that an uninstall? Yikes!)

Office 2003 had a brief hiccup after uninstalling Project 2007, but it was resolved internally quickly.

Very weird, but all is good now.

Hi all. My daughter's school offered students a free copy of MS Office Project Pro 2007. She has no use for it but I do, so I snagged it along with the installation product key.

I installed it on my current desktop to check it out - make sure I can open my old Project 98 files, etc. Works great! But I have not activated it yet (22 more starts to go!).

This version has a One Installation on One Machine license.

Now I plan on building a new machine in the next couple of months and I will want Project 2007 on that machine. So my question is: should I wait and install & activate once I'm on the new machine?

Some high end programs have an option to deactivate the installation on the old machine and reactivate on the new machine, allowing only one installation on one computer. Is this the case with Office progs? Or are they serious: installed on one computer - give it away with the computer when you upgrade?

A:MS Office Project 2007 Pro Activation query

Dear TVeblen

Let me quote you Microsoft Software License Terms (MSLT) for 2007

Quote:
15. REASSIGN TO ANOTHER DEVICE. You may reassign the license to a
different device any number of times, but not more than one time every 90
days. If you reassign, that other device becomes the “licensed device.”
If you retire the licensed device due to hardware failure, you may

Thus, IMHO you shouldn't have any troubles reassigning this copy to another device.
There is no procedure for MS OFFICE deactivation. One should simply uninstall software from first computer and then reinstall and activate it on the second.
Should you ever experience any troubles, you can always reactivate vie phone.

Hello, Vista forums experts! Got a fairly simple question but I wanted expertise before I proceeded. Here's the basics:

1. I am running Vista Home Edition SP1 and Office 2007 Professional. Everything is fully up-to-date with patches, etc.

2. In the summer, I installed Office 2007 Professional that works perfectly (or as perfect as it can be).

3. Two months ago, I took a college course that required Microsoft Project 2007 Professional to be installed on my PC as a 60-day trial.

4. The course has ended and I want to uninstall ONLY Project, but I am worried that the uninstallation may strip away parts or features of Office that I do NOT want to uninstall. (ie: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc...)

5. Is it safe to uninstall or should I just leave it on my PC? (It's not like I'm hurting for the hard disk space).

Any thoughts or methods?

Thanks so much!

I have been working on a VB 6 (SP6) project as part of learning the program. Today I tried to open the proect to work on it but when I open the project in the project explorer and then double click on the project name, it does not open any further to give me access to the forms.

I opened the folder with the project and I find 3 files. filename.vbp, filename.vbw and filename.frm

I tried the same with some other projects I have and they all opened fine.

Is there a way I can rebuild this project so I don't loose eveything. I tried to open the backup of the same project and it fails as well.

I have used the project managmenet template that is available to you when you open Access 2007. I decided to make it a File Managmenet system instead and renamed the Project table Files, and the Project List form to File List form. Although I have changed the autoexec macro to open the File List if the Getting Started screen un-checked, I get an error message every time I open the project saying the Project List form name is still in a macro somewhere and it has been renamed or deleted. The program then opens as it should, I just get that error message every time I start. There are no other macros in the template and I can't find any VBA programing where I can change the form name to File List. I do not get a macro name where the error is, so it must be in an embedded macro, but I can't find it for the life of me. Need to solve this before I go nuts! Help!!

I am looking for some help with MS Project 2007.

I have installed Project 2007 in a stand-alone environment (advanced setup) for evaluation purposes & have been trying to find documentation which explain how to setup & configure email notifications.

Despite browsing through various Technet articles & Google searches my attempts so far have been unsuccessful.

Can someone provide any documentation, links, or details on what I need to do?

Hello all,

I am new to Microsoft Project 2007 and have a question regarding how this software defines a work week.

I have created a new calendar that is a 6 day work week and 60 hours a week for a project that I am working on. Thus, I know how to change the working time, the default work week, and under the "options" tab in the "change working time" menu I have changed the defaults to match what my calendar has for starting and ending times, etc.

My question is since I have changed the work week to start on Monday, if I start a task on a Monday and assign it a duration of 1 week, the task does not end until the next Monday. Since I have defined a 6 day work week, a week to me seems like it would be 6 full working days, and if it started first thing Monday it would end at the time I assigned on Saturday as the close of work. If I assign the task a duration of 0.98 weeks it ends on the Saturday that I wish it would end on, it does in fact end on Saturday.

If you change the view to "calendar" a task that starts on a Monday and has a duration of 1 week, or any round number of weeks, will continue through all Sundays and into Monday at the time that I set work to start on Monday.

How do I make a week in my situation last only 6 working days? (IE how can I start a task that will take one week, start on a Monday and have it end on Saturday at the close of business?) Obviously tasks that are constrained to start directly after this task that end o... Read more

A:Microsoft Project 2007 Work Week Defiition

Just to clarify, if you have a task with the Project standard calendar with a duration for 1 week and start it on a Monday, it will finish on that weeks Friday. If you then assign a task that is start to finish constrained to the first task, it will start on the next Monday after the first task finished the previous Friday. My problem is that since I changed the calendar, the tasks run through the non working days and up to the start of business to the next day.

Thanks

I have a custom category to apply to my project plan, but more than one category can apply to each task. Essentially I need a multiple select drop down list.

I can create the custom field and the drop down list, but it only allows me to choose one option per task.

Does anyone know if it's possible to do this?

Hello again everyone. I apologize in advance for the long post, my primary question starts and ends at the bold font way down there if you wanna skip to it.

I am going to start working on a way to combine all of our half a dozen excel sheets and separate, inconsistently named customer lists into one single file. My first idea is to use access as I have (extremely limited) experience with it. What I need to figure out is exactly HOW I am going to combine these excel sheets into one file.

The idea here is that I need to be able to track; Customer name/address, what we pick up or deliver to them, and individual records for every stop we do at that customer.
As it stands right now we have 6-7 different sheets that cover the various services we provide. Each one however is listed like vertically:

*Price code(s)*
Date of pickup/amount picked up

As an example we might have something that looks like this:

Company X
CODE1234
01.01.11 125
01.02.11 250
01.03.11 120
(insert any number of pickups here)

So on and so forth with each different customer starting immediately below the last pickup. New pickups are entered by inserting a row, thus shifting everything else down. This results in many hundreds, on some lists a couple thousand rows.
The only way they are kept in order at the moment is that they are in alphabetical order. This is the way the previous manager did things in Excel. Needless to say it does not do us very good when attempting to obtain various ... Read more

Hello, I have a user here who cannot open all project files. Upon trying to open it, Project 2007 crashes. When opening it again, the attached screen shot shows up. I have started project first, then removed the file from the disabled items list, and it still crashes. Everyone else is able to open this file. I have saved the file to his desktop, still crashes. I have logged on as myself on his computer, still crashes. I uninstalled Symantec Endpoint Protection, still crashes. I uninstalled, cleaned the registry, then reinstalled Project, still crashes. I updated the rest of his Office suite to 2007, with service pack 2, still crashes. I installed service pack 2 for Project, still crashes. I have run Microsoft diagnostics, but it doesnt find anything. So I have not been able to figure this out, and I have run out of ideas. I want to avoid as much as possible a full rebuild on this machine because of all the user settings and software that he has installed on this. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what might be causing this to crash? Thank you

I have a user that has been using Project 2003 for several years. He last used one particular file in November, and now when he tries to open it he gets this error message:
Project cannot open the file
--check that the file name & Path are correct
--check that the file format is recognized by project
It is a .mpp file, and was created with and had all modifications done with project 2003. The only thing that has changed in the last several months is an upgrade Win7 Ultimate to Win7 Prof.

I have tried opening this file on other computers and I get the same error message.
I have done a new/fresh install on a computer - same problem
I have repaired and also removed/reinstalled - same problem.

A few years ago I got a copy of MS Project Standard 2007 from my daughter's school which I installed and activated on my new office PC when I built it, using a one time only product key (Academic Promotion).
(FYI - upon careful reading of the license I saw that the software is for a current student or teacher - or a family member of a qualifying student, which was true at the time and is still true until May of this year)

Now I am considering upgrading this PC to Windows 10 in a clean install.

My understanding is that I will lose Project 2007. I will not be able to activate it again on my "new" PC and I will have to revert back to my previous Project program or buy a new/old copy of 2007 (and factor this additional cost into my decision making).
Am I correct?

Second question: since I already have the installation media, is there a way to just pay Microsoft for a single license - new product key without having to go through the whole dance of buying another DVD?
I'm not interested in newer versions, and especially not interested in paying $25/m for Project 365. More replies Answer Match 84.84% Need some help with Open office3. Hi I am trying to share a Microsoft Project file (.mpp), but I can't. I have all shareing options enabled correctly - I've share alot of files from my computer so I know how to do it, but when right-clicking & selecting Share With on this file, it just opens the Advanced Sharing options which is specific for all file sharing, not this particular file, & they are set correctly (network discovery on, etc., etc.).

There is a lock on the file's icon, could that be the reason? I can't find any locking feature or other options to make it accessible. It's in my users/public/documents folder, & when selecting that folder from the remote computer, it shows everything in there but this file.

I have two laptops, and old one and a new one. Both are running Windows XP Professional and both have identical versions of Windows Movie Maker. The only difference I can think of is that one was upgraded to Windows XP Professional and the other came with it. I also have a Sony Digital 8 video camera.

I can capture & edit videos in the old computer, but that computer is not powerful enough to play them thru both its own screen and a projector at the same time. I work for a church and this is something we do frequently, so this is a necessary ability.

The church bought the new laptop to correct the projection problem. Now I can not capture the video correctly. I follow all the same steps and it appears to be going great. Then after it creates the clips, I go to play the clips so I can begin editing them and nothing happens. So, I end up creating the video in one laptop and then transferring the video to the other for the presentations.

I know there is the possibility that the problem is having a Sony camcorder, but I don't understand why creating the movie works in one computer and not the other. I've also looked into getting Sony software, but have had little luck in finding any info on it - the only thing I have seen is MovieShaker. Just a guess, but try moving the backup of your project file to the same folder that the original was in and then renaming it to the name of the original. Also make sure that the data file is in its original folder with its original name.

A:Solved: Microsoft Project file error

First of I will suggest you to open a new file in Project and then insert this existing file into the same. Because of the way Project stores files, file fragmentation may be the basic cause. To make sure this isn’t the problem: open your .mpp file then select File/Save immediately before doing any other action. Only if you save immediately after opening does Project defragment its .mpp file. If you do not have external links in your file, (i.e. resource pool, master with subprojects, etc.), then a good practice is to always use Save As instead of a straight Save with your file after editing.

Here's what I'm looking for to organize my work. I want to keep a list of my to-do list and project ideas and for each item, I want to assign it more than one subject tag.

For example: the note "sign timesheets" would be tagged as HR and Finance and if I was looking for my HR stuff, it would be there and if I was looking for my Finance stuff, it would there.

Does this make sense? Can I do this in excel (i can use this) or access (very limited experience) or some kind of online app? thanks!

sfran7, welcome to the Forum.
It can be done in either Excel or Access, but Access is better at "Relating" data the way that you want, as that is what it is designed for.
I specialise in helping Posters create their databases and tailor them to fit their requirements, but also try and teach them Access basics at the same time. (See this Thread which I am currently working on - http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/867163-learning-access.html)

What I would need from you is some more Examples of what you want to put in and more importantly what you want to get out (as that will control what goes in )

I can only work in Access 97 - 2003, not 2007.

A:Visual Studio- Windows Forms(Help needed, open a notepad from project)

I don't have visual studio installed right now to give a precise, but if my memory serves......

You can start notepad by using the Process class which has the static method Start that does precisely so. You can use it to run notepad in the event handler of the menu, optionally by passing a parameter to automatically open a file if you want. Look here for more details: Process.Start Method (System.Diagnostics)

For the icon, you can use an ordinary button with a blank Text property and a picture on it and it will behave much like any ordinary button (notably the Click event) but with a more graphical aspect. The best I can tell right now is that you explore the property sheet of it and see what properties can control the appearance. By trial and error you can discover some interesting things about controls.
never tried too much with the Calendar, but again, explore the property window.

I use Windows system, and there is always mswmm file while using windows movie maker. Now I have found the result.

First, Know the MSWMM File
.MSWMM file is a Windows Movie Maker project file. By saving the project, it allows you to return to the movie and make modifications at a later time. However, if you're satisfied with the movie and would like to upload and share the result through YouTube, you will need to choose "Save Movie File" under the "File" menu (which is different from "Save Project", which creates the .MSWMM file).

Solution I: Save and Play the MSWMM File
You have to open the mswmm file in Windows Movie Maker and save the movie to your computer ( this step you should use Windows computer):
Go Finish Movie > Save to my computer

The 2 options for saving a video file from Movie Maker are either DV-AVI or WMV. To create a Mac-compatible video file, open the MSWMM file in Windows Movie Maker, save the movie at the highest quality setting WMV or preferably as a DV-AVI format file. Import this finished AVI or WMV file into iMovie or other Mac video editing application.
After the MSWMM file saving as AVI or WMV file in our PC, you can play the WMV/AVI files on your PC and convert them to another video format or burn to DVD.

Solution II: Edit and Burn MSWMM File to DVD on Mac
Talk of burning to DVD, if you are using Mac, how should we do?

I am unable to open a password protected Excel 2010 file in Excel 2007.

When attempting to open this file nothing happens but on clicking the office button the New and Open options are available but all the other options are greyed out.

Using the open option has no effect on this file whatsoever.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

A:Excel 2010 file will not open in excel 2007

Does is need to be saved in a different format. Wasn't there a change in the default around that time??

I've recently got a new machine and had copied my old PST file over. Whenever I go to open it I get "File access is denied. You do not have the permission required to access the file C:\Users\*username*\Documents\Outlook Files\*pst file name*"

I created a test archive and was able to open that one (same location ) just fine.
Is there an add-in/converter tool I need to run in order to be able to open my old PST file?

Hi folks

I'm developing a project in C++ and I want to get the best performance possible. My software code should be platform independent, so I can run it in any OS. My knowledge about hardware is almost "null", so I came here to ask a newbie question
Today, I am compiling the project only for 32 bit machines, forcing the OS of 64 bit machines to translate the compiled instructions.

My question is: This approach I've chosen (compile only in 32 bit) impacts the performance negatively if I run it in a 64 bit machine? Is so, would it be slower than a 32 bit machine (completely equivalent machine, but 32 bit), or it would have the same speed?

A:32-bit vs 64-bit for C++ project

I really know almost nothing about this, so fools rush in. A 64 bit computer is a 32 bit computer until something tells it it isn't. So, many programs are 32 bit and a 64 bit deals with them as such. To the best of my very limited knowledge, you don't actually have to "force" a 64 bit machine to deal with 32 bit software, it does that natively.

As to speed of execution a 32 bit program would have slower execution speed than a 64 bit, all other things being equal.

With that said, probably a more important consideration is to write code that is capable of taking full advantage of the current crop of hyper threading and multi-core CPUs.

I think that multi-threading in a 32 bit program, would likely exceed single thread performance @ 64 bit.

Hey guys,

I have someone that would like to put something from Project into a PowerPoint presentation. I am unfamiliar with Project, so bare with me. In pProject, they have text on the left with charts on the right. We are only able to select the text. How can we select the charts too, and just paste into PowerPoint? Is this even possible. If it matters, we are using Win98se.

Thanks,

Hi
am kullslym and I need help with my final year project work. Am asked to build an electronic attendance register system for schools, churches etc, and I just don't know how. Can anyone help?.

Please don't get offended, but this is suspect. If this is your final year project and you have absolutely no idea where to start...there's a problem. Anyway, we aren't supposed to help with homework so I recommend contacting your professor.

Noticed I had gotten Project 1 virus after homepage became a chinese site. Ran AVG and then that isolated Project 1. But chinese site kept returning as homepage. Then did a system restore and that fixed the homepage issue. Also before I did a system restore, Itunes kept popping up at startup up also until I did a system restore. Now itunes wont run--it says I need to reinstall.

I did all the steps suggested. I do have service pack 2,IE7, but cannot access windowsupdate page.

Log will be in next post.

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Apologies for the long delay in response. We have a large number of HijackThis logs to handle and it?s taking us longer to catch up. If you haven?t received help elsewhere already and still require assistance please perform the following:Download RSIT by random/random and save it to your desktop.
Double click RSIT.exe to start the tool and click Continue at the disclaimer.
When the scan completes it will open a log named log.txt maximized, and a log named info.txt minimized.
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of both here.

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don?t hear from you in three days this thread will be closed.

Project Overview

A college administrator is planning a new campus and intends to build a network in the new facility that will provide students both high availability and ample bandwidth, but at the least cost.

The administrator realizes that he will need expert advice in designing the network, and has asked your instructor to recruit the best networking students to assist. Your instructor has decided to allow students to compete for the honor of designing the campus network.

You will utilize your knowledge of networking principles to plan and design the new campus network.

Your plan should include, but not be limited to the following issues:

* What type(s) of cable to use and where to use them.
* What LAN topology to use.
* What networking devices to install and where they will be installed.
* How to segment the network to achieve optimum performance.
* Provide an average bandwidth of 4 Mb per user.

Research Supplement

In order to recommend a design that is aligned with the real-world requirements and evidences a cost effective solution to business needs, prepare a report that lists the features and prices of equipment (hubs, switches, routers, etc.) that you have considered for your plan. Your plan should analyze these competing features and prices and offer justification for your recommendations of equipment.

Hi all,

I've got a task from my teacher. We're working on an C#.NET application that makes it possible to send free SMS through a gateway. I found an information and a gateway on that page (ozekisms.com/index.php?owpn=315) that seems to be working for as the engine. Here a C#.NET SMS demo project is provided with full source code. Do you have any suggestions to my project? Any useful idea?

Many Thanks
