I have been using this same Excel file for many years. I viewed on my new home laptop 2 days ago, using a 2010 Excel Version. It was created on 2007.

I opened it on my work computer, version 2003, and now get the above error message on both machines. The file can no longer be opened.

I have tried emailing it, still won't open.

I have chenged the file type to both .xls and .xlxs neither open.

I downloaded the program on the home page of this site, and it said no file issues, no known problems for this file.

When I click Open File, it still shows where I had the file opened (the file name in lighter gray font - but cannot open.) The original file is in black, and I can open. But, get that message.

I also tried to open and fix - and I tried both options, with formulas, and without formulas, and all it opened was foreign characters.

Any other suggestions? Or is this file gone? Unfortunately, my most recent back up is 3-4 months old...

Thank you for your help,

I've seen posts (e.g., this one) about getting the error message "This file is not in a recognizable format" when trying to open files in Excel. Apparently this can occur for various reasons, but an online search didn't turn up an answer for my own situation, so I'm posting the solution I came up with.

In my case, the error message appeared when I installed Excel 2007 on the same machine as Excel 2000 and tried to open 2000. To eliminate the problem:
Close Excel.
Go to Documents and Settings > Application Data > Microsoft > Excel > XLSTART. The folder contains a PERSONAL.XLS and PERSONAL.XLSB file.
Assuming Office 2000 and Office 2007 have been installed in separate directories in Program Files:
- Move the PERSONAL.XLS file to Program Files > Microsoft Office > Office > XLStart
- Move the PERSONAL.XLSB file to Program Files > Microsoft Office 2007 (or however it's named) > Office 12 > XLSTART.
Don't just copy the files--move them. The original folder should be empty.
Restart Excel 2000.

A:Solved: Excel error message: "This file is not in a recognizable format"

Thanks for that, but Microsoft recommends you do not have two versions of Office installed on the same computer - then the error would not occur.

My first time on techguy! I have a year old Gateway laptop PC running on XP (I think) and have Excel 2007. I have been working on the same dbase for months now and all the sudden it won't let me open it, saying ".xls file format is not valid." I've read through many threads on this site and know enough to say that: 1) My bad, I don't have it backed up 2) I've tried renaming it 3) I've tried opening it in Word and through explorer -- all to no avail. 4.) I went http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Best/xls-repair.html but found NO free software only to purchase. 5) I tried

Thanks in advance.

I'd attempt a clean reinstall, again:

Go into Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and hit enter.
Remove these applications:
1. Apple Software Update
2. Apple Mobile Device Support
3. iTunes
4. QuickTime

Restart the computer
Download & Install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:

Launch the Utility: Start > Programs > Windows Install Clean Up
Select any of the above mentioned applications, and click Remove

Restart the computer again

I just downloaded and installed SteadyState. I locked three users, but when the user logged on, they all got an error message, "Windows cannot copy file (file name..) Possible causes of this error include network problems or insufficient security rights. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator. DETAIL - The filename or extension is too long.

I can't find the file that is listed in the error message.
I unlocked the profiles and took off all the restrictions except blocking firefox and netscape. I am still getting the error message. How can I fix this?

A:Error: "Windows cannot copy file. The filename or extension is too long."

Hi,

We occasionally see this with locked profiles.  When a profile is locked, Windows copies the original profile directory (often c:\users\user.orig) to a temporary location (often c:\users\user).  During the user's session, changes the user makes are written to this temporary location.  When the user logs off, Windows deletes the temporary profile, thus cleaning up his changes.

When you see the warning about filenames being too long when the locked user logs in, the problem is usually that temporary internet files created by Internet Explorer exceed the default 260 character path length limit, so Windows encounters an error when it tries to copy these files to the temporary location.  It's possible that other applications could create long filenames/paths that cause similar problems.

I've been able to solve the problem by unlocking the profile, logging in as the restricted user, then emptying the user's temporary internet files in Internet Explorer.  Then log off, log on as the Administrator again, and re-lock the user's profile.

Hope that helps.

Hello,
I am getting the following error when moving files on the same drive or from one to another:

"Error Moving File or Folder
Cannot remove folder (insert folder name here): The directory is not empty."

This is fairly common (once or twice a month) and it occurs usually with folders containing many subfolders when being moved by explorer gui "Move the selected items", or ctrl-x, ctrl-v . Repeated attempts through the same process seems to move the folders, but the errors increase as the concentration of stubborn folders increases.

There are no event viewer logs corresponding to these errors. (eventvwr.msc: system, or application)

I would have thought this would be a common problem, but extensive searches came up with nothing... so either it is rare, untroubling to others, extremely easy to fix, or my search queries suck. =)
I am going to run Checkdisk to make sure all is well there, and I will repost the likely failure.

A:"Error moving file or folder" "directory is not empty" one file left

Occasionally when I am deleting a file, it is difficult, I have to go through process explorer, search for the thread that is strangely(?) associated with that file in explorer (no reasonable dependencies could be linked, nor is the file being viewed), and kill the thread before deletion.

any thoughts?

Thanks =)

In short, paint is refusing to open a file and it's baffling me.

The file is a 14400 x 9662 8.62 MB black and white cemetery map saved under the .jpg extension. We have a bunch of other maps that are exactly the same setup; .jpg extension, black and white, and roughly the same size (some are larger some are smaller). All of the other maps open in paint perfectly fine, and - additionally - they open properly in every other picture viewing software we have. The reason we like paint is because it's black and white and basically all we are doing is typing names into boxes and drawing lines here and there; it's extremely simple and straight-forward, and, until now, has worked exceedingly well, and it's free.

The file is not corrupt. It opens properly in all of our picture viewing software. I have tried resaving it as .jpg, .png, .tif, and .gif in ms office picture manager and windows photo viewer to no avail. I have even tried importing the picture into MS Word, then copy and pasting the picture into a blank MS Paint window. From that point we can view and edit as needed as though the file had been opened properly to begin with without even experiencing lag. Then I can save it...as .jpg, .png, .tif, .gif, etc. (in order to use the .bmp extension without quality loss it winds up creating a HUGE file that paint won't open anyways. so .bmp is out). Then after paint itself has resaved the exact same file to a file... Read more

I am not sure why this happens, because it doesn't always happen right away. I have spent over two weeks on this file (yes, using it everyday and saving/opening with no problem up until yesterday) and it has a lot of critical, non-sensitive data. I have tried calling my helpdesk (they were of no help), tried saving the file as *.xlsx, tried opening in word and wordpad (I could see some data -- but not all the critical data was there). I have one major annoyance I cannot cope with in the win8 explorer.

When you select a file in the explorer you get a "file sensitive" extension in the ribbon menu (the green application tools in the picture).

Is there a way to disable this file sensitive" extension? it so annoying, because when you work a lot in the explorer with files the GUI constantly changes (color an the posotion of the name from the window).I get all kinds of different coloured menus which distract me big time.

Maybe there i a win8 feedback forum which I can address this problem? I'm really not unhappy with win8, but there a some really annoying things in it for me.

I have a tif file named "W.Clark" that I edited and tried to "SaveAs" "W.Clark2" (Format box in the Save As window indicated TIF). However, in Windows Explorer the file is just "File", not "MS Office Doc imaging file," i.e. a tif. Moreover, when I try to SaveAs "W.Clark.2" the file type become 2 File in Windows Explorer. Photoshop is not adding the appropriate extension. BUT, if I SaveAs "WClark" (remove all periods) the file gets saved as a TIF. If seems to me periods in the filename are a problem, but WHY - this has never been a problem in the past. Another thing that works is for me to manually type .tif at the end of the filename, for example, SaveAs "W.Clark.tif" will become a tif.

I rebooted the computer but the quirk persists. It appears to be related only to Photoshop as I did SaveAs on a PageMaker document (period in the name and at the end) and there were no problems - that is, the files automatically added the PageMaker extension to the end.

Under Tools, I have the boxed checked that says "Hide extensions of known filetypes" - I've always had this box checked.

I don't want to have to remove periods from existing filenames, nor do I want to manually type ".tif" at the end of all SaveAs....this quirk bugs me....it's appeared seemingly out of the blue today. Any suggestions????

Thanks in advance.

Ok, so I had the "file recovery virus." I was using malwarebytes and Another malware removal program (can't remember that name) to get rid of it. I remember one of them listed a file name with "boot" in it as infected so I deleted it as suggested. Well now I can't boot windows 7 64 bit on my HP Pavillion laptop. It said no bootable device was found.

My husband made me a repair disk from his work computer but Under the system recovery options, it is blank. It says "if your operating system isn't listed, click load drivers". When I click load drivers, there are a ton of files listed and I don't know which one to choose.

Have you tried the factory recovery option built into the PC frm the factory, I believe it's the F12 key (for HP) at PC startup, that will over-write any date you may be trying to save though.

There is also the option in this tutorial linked below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Hi Guys, I wonder if you could help me with this annoying problem, I've tried to search the internet for a solution but all my efforts failed so far I have a Word document which I saved for the first time not giving it a specific name, so it automatically named itself by the first line of the text in the document. The problem is that since it is in Hungarian, it contained a Hungarian vowel that was not recognized by the program, therefore this letter got replaced by a ? in the file name. This caused the whole file to get corrupted, neither can I open it anymore, nor delete it from the disk or rename it.

Here's what I tried to do so far:
- rename or delete it by right-clicking on it - I get the error message "The filename you specified is not valid or too long"
- remove it with Move on boot - after restarting Windows, the file is still there, nothing happens
- repair the document from MS Word: File - Open - Open and repair - I get an error "This file could not be found"
- move all the other files from the folder containing the corrupted file, then run the following command as admin: del\\?\D:\Users\Bori\Documents\*.* - after confirming I want to delete the file, I get the following message: "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"

I don't want to format the disk for this one annoying little file, is there any chance to get rid of it somehow?

I'm running Vista 32-bit, service pack 2, home edition.... Read more

BUT no problems on my laptap which has the Viewer installed from the

Have had a few problems with computer of late - it was in the workshop

problem?

Grateful for any advice, suggestions as to what to do!

Hello. I am using a POWER USER account, Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 /w all the latest patches availible via microsoft update. I was trying to create a .zip file of a folder within the primary directroy of a backup hard drive I use.

For Example:
D:\stuff - I wanted to make a zipfile of the folder "stuff."

Then I get the following error "Cannot Create Output File."

However, if I move the folder to the destop or a subdirectory i.e. stuff/more stuff, then the .zip file is created with no problems.

Also, because user accounts [at least in my experience] have a tendency to decay, I created a freash power user account and the same problem persist.

Is this a standard security feature for power user accounts? Is there anyway I can "disable" it if it is?

Thank You.

I have been trying to setup a postscript printer on port "File:" so I can print anything from a webpage to a file for running through Acrobat 8 Distiller. When I first install the print to file, it works fine until I reboot the computer. Every time I print to this printer after the reboot, I get a pop-up box titled "Local Port" with the message "Cannot Print to File: Access Denied". I gather it is a permission problem of some sort as I can log onto the Administrator user-id and it prints to file fine. Any ideas on what permissions I need to set this printer to in order for it to work under a standard user-id?

Using Windows Vista Ultimate X64.

Thanks
Ian.

I have given up finding a solution to the problem. I no longer use Adobe Acrobat Professional full as I have tried both updates 8.0.1 & 8.0.2 to no avail, and is now unsupported as Adobe is up to version 9 of this software. I have opted for a freeware solution, so I have uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Professional and installed the freeware CUTEPDF Writer at www.cutepdf.com. It works beautifully on Vista X64 on all documents, including Microsoft Word and Scanned Images and Photos. I'm very happy with the results.

Wanted to resurrect an older thread, but its closed :
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/652638-error-moving-file-folder-directory.html

Please read completely before responding.
I am a 30 year IT pro, most of it as a programmer. I am the geek in charge of a tech non profit org in Hawaii. www.HawaiianHope.org
so yea.. i have at least half a clue.

Here is the deal.
In doing drive copies, data recoveries, etc... when we are moving a mass amount of data from one drive to another we run into this problem a lot.
"Error moving file or folder" -- "directory is not empty"
If you restart the move, it will continue on and keep going, restart enough times and eventually it will move all directories.

I think its a programming issue with windows and wonder if anyone has a work around ?

I have a suspicion that the copy process is getting out of sequence. That it is trying to move a folder before it actually emptied it. Possibilities are :
1) windows forgot its place in moving through and navigating numerous sub directories and it is having a problem with “recursive calls.”
2) Computers with hyper threading or dual core processors are spawning the movement of files across multiple processes, and some are getting ahead of the other.
3) It did actually move the file, but the cache or something in memory has not updated, or the full data write has not completed yet before it tried to move the directory. (delayed write)
Yes, you can copy and then delete the old... Read more

A:"Error moving file or folder" -- "directory is not empty"

This is a known issue. It is by design.

As you may know, moving is in its essence an unsafe process. It would be better to use the actual sequence of copy and then delete.

Hi,
how can I change this?

Some background - this may not be the issue I need to solve at the end of the day:

I believe the location is causing crashes, since I blew up lots of Library registry values (in an attempt to remove them from the OS), and I think it defaults to the library page.

eg, 2shared - file upload and sharing
[edit: stupid editor auto href'd the text... bah]

crashes IE and Firefox (not Chrome for some reason... possibly because it uses its own code?) when I click the browse button (same for any "browse" button that spawns a native find-your-file thing).

It may be something else, but anyway...

edit: If I disable "Expand to Current Folder" in Win Explorer, the crash does not occur. So perhaps it is trying to expand to a folder that is broken?
I want to keep "Expand to Current Folder" on, though, as I like the feature.

A:Default "Browse for file" location in web browser "choose file" box

Hello Silmeria,

It may be best to do a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before you blew up the registry to see if that may sort this for you. Afterwards, you could use the tutorial below instead to remove libraries without blowing up the registry like that.

Libraries Folder - Add or Remove from Navigation Pane

Hope this helps,

A:How to convert "PART file" to 3gp format?

I don't think there is anything like that in existence. The .part extension of a partially downloaded file right? Like what GetRight tags on to the end. If so you have to go back and get the rest of the file or download a new copy or somehow properly truncate that .part file and give it the correct extension that it is supposed to have.

Hello!

We have shared folder on server that specific users can open it. In that folder there are bunch of excel files that they need to fill in. Problem starts when one user opens the document and starts filling the excel file, in that moment other user opens the same excel file but doesn't get the "file in use" notification. I have that problem for now only on one pc (win7, office 2010 standard + sp1). I tried to reinstall office 2010 and install all the updates but with no solution. Tried to delete all remaining Office folders but this also didn't solve the problem. Excel file on server is in 2003 format. On other pc with office 2010 standard upgraded from office 2003 professional i don't have that problem when opening the file, I receive "file in use" notification. Does anybody had similar problems and knows how to solve it? Thanks

A:Excel 2010 "File In Use" notification doesn't show

Problem solved. Permissions from the main folder didn't inherit on child folder thus user could open specific file in child folder but couldn't get "file in use" notification. After readding user as domain admin problem was solved.

Using Windows Vista, I have a Microsoft Office Excel 2003 file which I use regularly. It is password-protected, contains Macros and has many sheets which contain linked formulas between sheets.

Yesterday, I went to open it after I used it several times throughout the day. It's now giving me a "Unable To Read File". I clicked "OK" "Enabled Macros", typed in password, and it gave me "Excel found unreadable content in myfilename.xls. Do you want to recover the contents of this Workbook? If you trust this Workbook, click Yes." I clicked "Yes", and it took me back to click "Enable Macros" again, then to insert password again. Then it gives me the "Unable To Read File" again, then password again. Then it brings up a window with "Damage to the file was so extensive that repairs were not possible. Excel attempted to recover your formulas and values, but some data may have been lost or corrupted." I clicked "Close".

When I looked at the sheets, it just contained alot of numbers; no format or words, etc.

I've tried to open it in Word, as others have suggested, but it has not worked. Can someone help me recover this file? I really need the contents in it's original format.

Thank you in advance.

I was going through some photos that I have saved over the years and came across two that will not open.

They are of my grandmother and great-grandmother and at one time, I probably tried to touch them up with an old version of Adobe Photoshop. They are in a file format that I do not recognize and cannot open with any program that I now have. The file format is "*.mix" and this is a format that I would never have used to save old photos. I have no idea how they ended up in that format.

I have tried to open them with all my photo editing programs and even MS Word at the suggestion of one of the results of Google searches. Nothing works.

Anyone else here had a similar problem?

It didn't open to My Documents folder but was in the general folder list of the whole computer. The location was called "FTP File Locations." It's never appeared on the Save As menu before. This made me think of the file/print sharing control, which is now located in the Windows Firewall, but I don't use that Firewall, I turned it off to use Norton. What was FTP Locations? And is there any way to disable file/print sharing without using the Windows Firewall? (These may be the same thing, I don't know.) Also, in Network Connections, I thought I'd find file/print sharing control there, but now XP wants me to run a whole Network Wizard thing..I'm afraid I'll somehow set up a network instead! or enable all kinds of things..I don't want to create a disaster here.

(My son installed an FTP program months ago for work he was doing, but the program was removed. I just searched for it, it's definitely gone.)

This is a stand-alone, non-networked home computer.

P.S. I saved another Word doc and now it's back to opening to My Documents folder as usual..now I can't find the FTP Locations anywhere.

I successfully downloaded the file using Chromodo so I assume there is something corrupting the download via windows 10 Microsoft browser?

Hi there
on the download is there a SAVE AS option -- that might work if you change the default to .xls

Otherwise I think there are some xlsx viewers where you could view the file or change it to xls. (Note changing to xls will possibly remove some formatting etc).

This is driving me bonkers and I have almost no hair left. I really hope someone can help.

When I attempt to copy or move a file or folder from my Win7 box to my WinXP (SP3) media server, the operation nearly always fails. Take, for example, my trying to copy the VLC Media Player folder (704 files, 75.1 MB) from Program Files on Win7 to the C: drive on the media server via a mapped drive (X). In all cases, after hanging up at some point during the copy, I get this message:

Network Error
There is a problem accessing X:\<whatever current sub-folder copying is>
Make sure you are connected to the network and try again

I should note here that you only see the message come up if you wait for it (~1 min) after the copy hangs. If you try to cancel the hung copy before the message comes up, you can crash explorer.exe. I must also stress that there are no other access problems on the network. Files on the media server are accessible as expected from the Win7 box. Performing the same copy in reverse ("pulling" the same folder to the XP box from its console instead of "pushing" from Win7) works perfectly. All machines are in WORKGROUP and the same exact credentials are in use on all machines. All machines run the same version of Symantec Endpoint Protection and have firewall rules configured to allow all LAN traffic. All machines are connected through a Linksys SD2005 5-port GB "dumb" switch. Routing/DHCP is provided by a D-Link DI-604. ... Read more

I have had my vista pc and my windows 7 (basic) net book setup to let me share files (through an Netgear DG834PN Route) for around 18 months with no problems.

However as of 3 days ago I can no longer do this and non of the network tools can fined or solve the problem. I can uses the internet though my rooter, see my vista pc on the network as well as the media streaming (windows one) thing.

I can also access my net book hard drive from my pc no problem and transfer/delete files as well?

When I do try to connect the following error message is given:
"Error code: 0x80070035
The network path was not found"

How can I fix this?

P.s. I know windows 7 basic has not create home group ability, but it worked with the one I made on vista. I can not afford to upgrade my copy of windows 7 so that is totally out of the question.

P.p.s I am a dummy at this stuff.

I have tried Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, no joy!!

A:network error message: "Error code: 0x80070035". No file shareing help

Welcome to SF,

Firewall might be the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone".
On some Firewalls or Security Software you might need to completely uninstall them.

Hiya, I could use a little help resolving what should be a simple problem. It's really a long story, but to skip to the important part, I'll just recount this little tale:

I wanted to delete some files off of an old external hard drive to make space for some new stuff. It didn't matter, since the files I was deleting had been long since copied to a new drive. However, Vista, in its infinite wisdom, told me I couldn't delete the files, and it was for my own good. I politely said, "okay, Vista! Thanks for keeping me honest!"

But then I muttered, "I already have a mother" under my breath, and proceeded to go behind Vista's back and turn off User Account Control so I could delete the files anyway. Well, I knew that wasn't the best idea, so I immediately turned UAC back on afterwards, but it was too late. Vista caught me, and after the second restart, smote me with a problem I'd seen once before: nearly every program on my computer was said to have been closed after it "encountered a problem" or some nonsense, and when restarted again, the disk checker was run, found numerous problems, and did whatever it had to do to go about fixing them all.

Now I'm not sure what all that was about, because everything seems to be running okay now, save for one minor thing. That little "click" sound you get when navigating windows explorer was nowhere to be heard. I tried another restart and another disk check, b... Read more

Hi All,

I'm having some issues with WinDBG and a crash dump analysis for a Windows Phone 10, so I hope someone could answer this question here.

Background information:
Recently I bought a brand new Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM phone which keeps restarting over and over on a very random basis. After reading several threads it turns out that many people are suffering from the same issue and generic remediation steps are not working
at all. This includes using Windows Device Recovery Tool, turning off certain features such as WiFi & Bluetooth, SD card usage, etc.
After troubleshooting this issue for a while I decided to get on with Field Medic application which clearly indicated a 000000F9 crash. Unfortunately this didn't tell anything too specific so I captured a minidump from the phone and went straight to WinDBG
for further analysis.

Now my issue is that although I can load the crashdump into WinDBG, I'm unable to get the appropriate symbol files as WinDBG is constantly complaining about not finding the required files. I've changed the required sympaths as necessary so I've been trying
to use the official MS online repositories but WinDBG just doesn't want to cooperate and get the files. Unfortunately I couldn't find an offline symbols repository for Windows Phone 10 and therefore I'm stuck with the analysis. The symbols would be required
in order to nail down the root cause making the 0000009F crashes. So far I can only see that this is possibly a driver re... Read more

I am having trouble opening some Excel attachments within emails received. I have Windows 95. When attempting to open it, an error message says, "whatever the file name.xls: file format is not valid". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

A:Excel 95 file format error

Hi,
Are the files sent to you as a routed workbook?

If yes, this article describes the symptoms: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q211/9/19.ASP

Or are you using a version prior to Excel 97 (you mention Excel 95, which is Excel 7.0) to open Excel 97 or Excel 2000 files? (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q170/3/11.ASP).

Excel is only upwards compatible (meaning you can open files of an earlier version, but not of a later version).

I got an ATI video card today and put it into a system here:

Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 on Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000-G board with socket 478 Pentium 4 3000-MHz processor and 512 RAM.

Video card is here:

It won't play simple MPG clips so I figured I would install the DirectX 9c that's on its CD. I get the following error on attempting to install: "A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted."

The installation aborts at this point.

All of a sudden I could not find my sent mails in the Sent Items Folder. I looked for help from the forums and got a suggestion to create another profile to test whether I can see my sent mails there. I followed the instructions but there was not enough to lead me through so I don't think I completed creating a profile. Then I got another suggestion to purchase the Registry Booster to clean up my registry. After I did that I was able to see my sent mails again.

However I still continue to see the Outlook Data File Popup with the message "This data file has not been configured. Select an existing file to configure or try the name of a new file to create". After I clicked "OK" then I got another pop up to prompting me to choose a file from the Libraries.Documents directory. I clicked "Cancel" then I got another pop up with "Properities for this data file must be defined prior to use". I clicked "OK" and then I got the Outlook Data File Popup and the same subsequent popups again. After clicking through I was able to start my Outlook but when use the registry Booster to scan I got more error messages. So apparently these errors from Outlook is mucking up my registry. Anyone has any idea about this problem? Please help. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Helen.

A:Outlook 2010 Error message "This data file has not been configured"

Hi Helen,

Firstly, you certainly do not need any registry boosters to solve Outlook data file issues - was this a recommendation made by someone, or was this suggested to you by an automated pop-up? If its the latter, is there any chance you could be infected by some sort of malware?

To solve the Outlook issue, do you know where your Outlook data file is being stored? Can you do a search on your computer for all files with this extension:

.pst

Post back here with your findings. Also, can you tell us about your current system : what anti-virus software are you using. I'm a bit concerned about this Registry Booster : generally speaking, in most cases you really do not need/want to be mucking with the registry at all.

Regards,
Golden

"File Error
Exception of Type System
OutofMemoryException was thrown."

The above error message occurred while trying to copy my XP OS partition from my WinMe partition using a program which I believe is using xcopy which I downloaded from http://www.lexunfreeware.com/

I am trying to backup my programs which are on one partition, my WinXP OS which is on another partition and my data which is on another partition.

I am backing them up to a 2nd hard drive.

I was successful in backing up the "program" partition but received the error on backing up the XP Partition.

Any ideas what may have caused it?
