Image capture SW for outsourcing business

Q: Image capture SW for outsourcing business

I am starting a data entry service business this month, and am looking for image capture and indexing software that I might consider using. I am also looking for software that can digitize x-ray films.

Perhaps someone has some experience in this area that they will share with me?

I am also looking for disabled veterans who could work in our Roswell, Georgia location now, and perhaps later we will use some home workers.

Hi
I purchased a pinnacle studio 500 PCI card, but what I need to do at the moment is capture still images from the video source. (in this case a microscope)

The pinnacle software bundled seems only for editing and capturing video.

Does anyone know of any good free software that can capture still images from the pinnacle capture card? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Okay, I am sure that what I wish to do is possible. I just don't have the faintest clue as to how to go about it. I watch DVD's on my PC. (a Dell, with window XP home edition and the Inter-Actual Dvd player). What I would love to be able to do is to pause the DVD playback and capture the screen image as a graphic file. So I can make them my background or things like that.

A friend who knows PCs told me that it is just NOT possible on my machine because Microsoft has designed the operating system not to allow this. However, I found a company that offers a program that is supposed to be able to do what I want. (Herculesoft, the DVDgo Pro). But before I drop $50 on this...

Can I do what I want on my PC? and what do I need to do to be able to do so?

thanks for any advise. I'm about ready to pull my hair out over this.

Hello Melisenda,The following are about Windows Media Player, but they might help. They offer several possible solutions:http://www.quickonlinetips.com/archives/20...s-media-player/http://labnol.blogspot.com/2005/11/capture...om-windows.htmlI'm not sure if the InterActual DVD Player has similar controls. Can you play the DVD using Windows Media Player? The thread in the first link above also mentions VLC Player (from http://www.videolan.org/) as a possible solution for capturing images from DVDs.EDIT: I just noticed after posting this that the VLC Player is also mentioned in "Freeware Replacements For Common Commercial Apps" here at Bleeping Computer.

Hi,

Not too sure if I have posted this in the right section, but,

I want to capture still DV images from my camera (not movies) but software that came with the camera no longer works (for some reason). I have a firewire connection with the camcorder.

Can anyone point me in the right direction regards any free software which would allow mw to capture still images from my camcorders memory. I have had a quick search around the interweb but all these DV capture programs only save movies.

What would be my best option.

Thanks,

C h r e d g e.

PS/ Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

A:Dv image capture

Do you mean stills from tape? or stills from a memory card?

BTW, if you go to the manufacturers site you should be able to download any software that came with the cam.

I found this out purely by chance today. Had to deal with Microsoft to see about getting a warranty replacement for my nine month old Lumia 830. I was informed by the MS rep that after October 1, they would no longer responsible for the Lumia brand and that they would be outsourced to a yet unnamed company. The question is, who is it?

A:Microsoft Outsourcing Lumia as of October 1st?

I'm assuming from that information that some third-party repair service is going to be taking over for Lumia service and stuff.
I'm sure something like Asurion is to be expected.

Hi Folks,

I am looking for a software that will produce automatic image captures from DVD footage, something like a chapter thumbnail...

I do VHS to DVD transfers in house and I want to make DVD covers from my transfered footage's still images, I have already programmed the template I wanted to use using this program called "fotofusion" and now I need to be able to capture some still images from the DVD footage automaticlly. It would also be nice if I can set the intervals of the caption.

Its an on going job and I need to extract about 50 images per DVD, currently I do it manually but it is very time consuming.

Any thoughts ?

Many Thanks

I took a job where the previous person is suspected of A LOT of things.

I was able to put aside her computer after copying what files I might need to do the job, and use a different computer. Her computer sits virtually unchanged from the day she was escorted out.

Now I am being pressed to put it back into commission. I don't know if anything on it will be useful for evidence at some date as we investigate what she was doing. Maybe, maybe not.

What's the best way to capture the image, store it and be able to access it again?

I may end up just pulling the drive and stashing it, but I'm wondering what software is best for it.

Thanks

Alright, I have some sort of conflict, that is not listed in device manager, between a HP-PSC500 parallel port printer and a Kodak USB digital Camera. The printer and scanner works fine useing the HP software. The camera won't transfer pictures at all. No errors in device manager, but under the "scanners and cameras" applet, the properties of both the scanner and the camera shows as unavailable or disconnected. It's not a USB problem as all other USB stuff works fine, it's not a IRQ problem, It's not a twain problem, It's some kinda image capture problem.

Anyway, I'd like to delete and reinstall all files and registry settings related to video capture. Also, I'd like to try to find any unused capture drivers installed on the machine and delete them. Is there any way to do this without reinstalling? This machine is used for audio production and has 200+gigs of critical stuff on it. Fixing all the midi apps and sound stuff is a pain on installation.

Thank god this isn't my machine.

Hi
I am having trouble with Lab 4 for the 70-680. I have run sysprep on my Win 7 machine and created a WinPE boot disk but I can't boot WinPE boot image. I think it's 4.3 under Create WinPE Boot Image in the lab where you have to boot the image you created. I can't burn the image to a CD - I think I may have done an error before I did the sysprep where it shuts down your machine. I think I didn't point it to the hard disk in command prompt - I followed all the commands in the Labs word for word.
If anyone can help then I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi everyone,

I don't know if I'm in the right section but I been trying to deploy an image to a new model pc which I captured the image from an older model pc used Windows AIK added the chipset drivers offline and did a commit and now I'm trying to deploy this updated image to this new model pc and it doesn't boot into Windows Vista but it will work on the same model pc, althought if I sysprep the image again it will work on the new model, why is that, it's almost seems like the chipset drivers did get installed but then if I sysprep it works. The reason why I'm doing this is because a client has alot of applications and configurations which I want to avoid building her pc from scratch and just capture the image and the chipset drivers offline commit it and then being able to deploy it to this new model pc. It's odd because I'm sure I have done this in the past and for a reason or another it doesn't work.

Thank you for your help.

Mark

A:capture image to re-deploy to a new model pc.

The most common reason for an image to fail after Sysprep has been run is the installation of security software. Many security and anti-malware applications will protect the system files which Sysprep interacts with and the resulting image will fail, you may wish to disable or remove the anti-virus software before running Sysprep.

However, where your image will boot properly on the reference system, I would look first at other drivers beyond the chipset driver which are necessary for boot. Most specifically, I would look at the storage driver, especially if you are receiving a 0x0000007B error on boot. There are instructions available for preparing an existing image for migration to a new storage mode included in this Microsoft Support article.

Hi- Single Site, single domain. I have WDS running on Windows Server 2012 Standard. Have been using WDS for quite a while now without issue. Created a new image from scratch, applied all updates, installed apps.
Ran sysprep (successful) and rebooted to initiate an image capture. Selected the volume, selected the WDS server, and storage group. Ran Net Use to map a network drive to copy the image file to. Capture started and gets to 28% and then stalls. Left it overnight
and still at 28%. Tried it twice with the same results.

What's going on here? Where should I look to find info on what the cause might be?

I'm attempting to follow this guide to capture a Windows 7 image:

http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles-tutorials/windows-7/Deploying-Windows-7-Part10.html

I have a test PC with Windows 7 installed on it waiting to be captured.

I've installed the MDT 2013 Update 2 and Windows ADK for Windows 10 to my technician PC.  Unlike this guide, however, I have no tree under 'Deployment Shares'.  So I have no option to import an OS.

This seems to be a stumbling block to actually capture an image.  Is there something I'm missing?  Is there something that needs to be configured that I don't know about?  I'm still learning this whole process so it's entirely possible there's
something glaringly obvious I don't see.

Since the most recent update of the Sprout Workspace I have been unable to capture any images or use the document capture. I was able to roll back the updates two days ago and the system worked fine. When I started the computer the next day the update went in again automatically and now rolling back to the old Workspace is no longer an option when I look at the recovery points.  When I try to capture an image I get the following error message: "Request to capture Moment failed with new HPPC_RESULT value as [1.0.d.a0088888] (HPPC_ERROR_EMPTY) If I hit OK and close Sprout and then wait a little the light above flashes the way it should to take an image about 30 seconds to a minute after I tried to actually get an image leading me to believe there is some kind of excessive delay in image capture which is the reason there is no moment captured when the system is looking for it. I believe you have a big problem with your most recent update that is causing. I use this Sprout computer with my students and I need the capability to scan with this ASAP. Right not it is just another computer rather than the all in one device it was bought to be, and that is disappointing.

I have passed all the steps of the image capture wizard of the WDS Server 2008 R2...
In the middle of the process of the uploading the image captured it tells me "There is not enough space on the disk".
I canceled the process and I can see the xyz.wim file created in the local machine, but no in the WDS server (E:\RemoteInstall).
Obviously I have sufficient space on both, local machine where I am capturing the image and on the WDS server.
Also, both disk drives are NTFS without quota allocation.
Anyone has an idea of how to solve it¿?
I have read some information in Internet, but with no succesful.
Thanks in advanced.

A:WDS - image capture upload - There is not enough space on the disk

You have to create an small (10GB) partition in the client machine, and then in the wizard you need to specify that you want to create the .wim there.
It works like a charm.
Good luck!

Many years ago I had a webcam and bought software that allowed me to automatically capture an image every so often and upload it to a website. Now I have Microsoft Studio webcam and it does not come with any software that I can set up to automatically capture images and upload them to the website.

I know there is software out there that can do this and I have been searching the Internet to find it. So far I have had to restore my system three times. It seems that the software I find comes with a bunch of crap software that even if you tell it NOT to install, the crap software gets installed too. I figure that any software that comes with crap is crap by association; I don't even bother looking at the webcam software, I go straight to restore and get rid of everything.

I am hoping that someone here can provide me with a link to good webcam software. I might even consider buying another webcam if it came with the software.

A:Need webcam software to capture image and post to website

You can use reputable software like virtualdub (Welcome to virtualdub.org! - virtualdub.org), vlc (https://www.videolan.org/vlc/) or even ffmpeg (FFmpeg) to capture snapshots from your webcam. This can be done via command line.

For VLC, the command line should look like :

Code:
vlc --dshow-vdev="Monitor Webcam" --dshow-size=640x480 -V dummy --intf=dummy --dummy-quiet --video-filter=scene --no-audio --scene-path=D:\temp --scene-format=jpeg --scene-prefix=snap --scene-replace --run-time=1 --scene-ratio=24 "dshow://" vlc://quit

This captures 1 second and saves it as jpg images on D:\temp
More help on command line options : http://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_command-line_help

For Virtualdub (much easier) :

Code:
vdub /capture /capdevice Monitor Webcam /capfile D:\temp\video.avi /capstart 2s /x

Same as above but saves it as an avi video file.

For ffpmeg :

Code:
ffmpeg -f dshow -i video="Monitor Webcam" -c copy raw.avi \-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -t 1 -crf 25 D:\temp\video.mp4

This saves as a mp4 video file (h264 format)

Code:
ffmpeg -f dshow -i video="Monitor Webcam" -t 1 ?r 25 D:\temp\image%d.jpg

This saves as jpeg images.
More info here : http://sonnati.wordpress.com/2011/08...ing-?-part-ii/

Replace Monitor Webcam with the correct name for your webcam as seen by direct show. This can be done via ffmpeg too :

Code:
ffmpeg -list_devices true -f dshow -i dummy

To upload (via ftp, I assume but... Read more

Hello. I have an issue.

I want to capture an Linux OS custom image or a fresh one and want to use WDS to complete the job. Could it be done?

I know I can use WDS from server to deploy WIN 7 or anyother Win OS to other systems. But can I use the same service to deploy Linux OS to other new systems and how can I go around in capturing the Linux OS image.

I don't want to use any third party application to capture and deploy both WIN and Linux images. I can use SysPrep to capture Windows image, but how do I go about capturing Linux image?

Is there an in-built app for Linux to capture an image like SysPrep (for WIN)???

loaded both the boot.wim and image.wim into wds server.
the system deploys the standatrd win7 Pro image without issue.
The problem comes when I try to use the image capture wizard.
The client laptop boots to pxe without issue I get the screen that  lets me choose  what I want to load
when I choose the capture image item it loads as normal,(as the deploy does except that all that happens is I get a black screen with a white arrow cursor. the screen never turns blue like you would expect and the image capture wizard never appears.
I have followed all of the steps on the WDS set up page for creating a image capture boot file however as I said it never appears.

Like one of the other posters, I am trying to make refrigerator magnets. I’m using magnetic peel & stick business card magnets. Then print my own photos on blank business cards. (Like the other poster I know they’ll be flimsy but mine will be for decoration only.)

But the problem is - I can’t create my design the right size so it prints out as business card size. I can't make a business-card size rectangle in Paint to use as a template - it's never business-card size size when printed. Onscreen it looks exactly right - doesn’t print the way it looks. How can I create an image that is business-card-size when printed? I need a blank template to repeatedly paste different photos onto.

Also, can I print business cards individually? -like how you print one mailing label at a time in Word? Because I won't need hundreds of them, just one of each photo or design to make one magnet.

FYI, attachment shows the product I will use.

Hi all,Would someone please post a picture of the inside of their Business and/or Business Slim Topload case?  Specifically of the laptop storage compartment? Would someone please post a picture of the inside of the other type of case mentioned above (I'm assuming that most of you only have one case, not both a Business Topload and a Business Slim Topload)?  I guess I would like to be able to see pictures of the inside laptop storage compartment of each. What is the difference between the Business and Business Slim cases? Thanks.

I bought this Elgato capture card yesterday and I've been trying to get it to work. I've updated my driver, and changed the video quality on both of my monitors, along with the profile (quality) on the software but I keep getting this message:

I don't know what it means by "video output format" but I want to be able to record off of it, so thank you in advance if you know how to help me.

http://postimg.org/image/xo9n729c7/
the image link, if you can't see it.

A:Elgato Capture Card: Won't capture anythng

I'm not familiar with it. But based on the image, there is no input signal (upper right box - Game Capture HD "no signal").

So the error is likely trying to tell you to change the output video type of whatever you have connected.

Hi,
I recently purchase a DIY desktop computer but it does not come with a firewire port. I installed one on the pci slot and it was detected by the computer.
Now when I pluged in a 6 to 4 pin firewire cable to my DV cam, I could not do a capture in either the Movie Maker or Premier Elements. It says 'no capture device detected'.
I checked on the hardware under device manager, and it shows that the firewire card is working properly.
I also tried using the USB port on the DV cam to capture, but it was not detected. I heard that it requires a seperate driver from JVC manufacturer. My Cam model is GR-D270.
I would appeciate alot for any answer to my problems.

I have a person who fears his computer has been compromised, and he's using the "Norton Business Class" (his words, google told me it was Norton Business Suite) software to protect his system. Over the phone, he was able to tell me the firewall detected traffic to his computer after he thought he'd shut it off and gone to work.

I've never used the product, and I'm not finding documentation on how to use the software when I search the net. (I'm finding lots about the service, and standard information about what it includes, features, etc to sell the service. But no particular help documents or user guides.) Does anyone know how to pull the firewall logs from the software so he can send them to me for review?

I don't know why, but the capture program on my laptop crashes whenever I hit "stop capture" after recording some gameplay footage. The software is up to date (2.0) and I don't know what else to do other than uninstall and reinstall the software. I was recording some gameplay footage earlier today and the program crashed as I hit stop recording. The video file didn't appear when I opened the program again but an m2ts file of the capture did appear in my videos folder with a bugged mp4 file. Options?

Hello. For all you Outlook gurus out there: is there a way to copy information from a non-business contact to a new contact?

For example, I create an personal individual (i.e. - non-business) contact with home address, home phone, etc. I save that contact. A week later I want to add a contact for that individual's spouse where everything is the same - home address, home phone - except for the spouse's cell phone number.

For business contacts I would use the "Save as Same Company" feature, but this does not work for non-business folks because they do not have the Business address populated (or should I say, it didn't work for me).

Any ideas that would make this a simple task?

Thanks

A:Copy non-business contact info to new non-business contact?

If I have understood correctly, I think this should help...

Quote:

Create a contact from another contact

You can create a new contact (contact: Person, inside or outside of your organization, about whom you can save several types of information, such as street and e-mail addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and Web page URLs.) from an existing contact by using the existing contact as a template, and then changing any of the information, as necessary.
In Contacts, in Business Cards view, click the contact that you want to use as a template.
Note You can also complete this procedure in the Address Cards and Detailed Address Cards views.
Press CTRL+C, and then press CTRL+V.
In the Duplicate Contact Detected box, select the Add new contact option.
When you save a contact or an Electronic Business Card (Electronic Business Card: A view of specific information about a contact, in a format similar to a paper-based business card, that can be inserted into messages.) with the same name or e-mail name as one that already exists in your Contacts folder, Microsoft Outlook displays a dialog box with options to either add the duplicate contact as a new contact or update the existing contact with the new information from the duplicate contact. To find out more, see Resolve or delete duplicate contacts.
Click Add.
The new contact will appear in Business Cards view next to the contact you copied.

I am wishing to install another level of computer backup on my 98se system-either
1. Symantec (formerly Roxio) GoBack,
or
2. Drive imaging. (The best rated appear to be Acronis True Image or PowerQuest Drive Image.)

I would, however, like to know something about each method that I have not been able to discover through the respective software sites or various reviews (CNET, PCMag , etc.)

Regarding GoBack:

How far back would I be able to go, given that I will be setting aside roughly 4GB space to GoBack. Would it be possible to take a snapshot after setting up my system (after a format), then not run GoBack until I am about to make another major change, then close it /disable it again until the next major change, and so on?
The reason I would want to do this, is that I find that problems often don't appear necessarily directly (or even soon) after any change to the system. Rather it can depend on when the program/process (that is causing the problem) is run. For example, I have recently had a conflict between my flatbed scanner and film scanner. I had not used the film scanner for a few months, so who knows when the cause of the conflict was first introduced, or what indeed it was?
Apparently, Goback keeps taking its "snapshots" continuously until the allocated space is used up, then starts deleting the earliest snapshots (to release more space). To me this does not appear enough to cover months of snapshots.
(In fact everywhere mentions a time scale of o... Read more

Just in case anyone suggests I right click and 'open with' in order to change the default program, i already know this isnt the case as this is the first thing i tried. Hey guys, it is good to be back on here as my problems are always solved, it has probably been a few years since my last visit! Anyway I am still running my 2006 Dell XPS 400 machine with windows XP SP3 media Center edition. It has a dual core 3ghz pentium CPU, 2GB ram, a 320gb Western Digital hard drive that is less than half full, and an Nvidia GeForce 6800 graphics card. love this machine so darn much as it does everything that I personally wanted to has one I had made back in 2006. And I absolutely love Windows XP. So being that the thing is 7 1/2 years old and I have never had a prior desktop last over 5 years without a hard drive failure, I feel as if I am running on borrowed time. This saddens me as I take great care of this machine and love it to death. Have everything set up the way that I like and I'm very comfortable with it, I don't adapt well to change LOL. So I recently began researching and found that hardware parts are pretty cheap now for this, but if the hard drive fails I will lose everything. So rather than install a new hard drive should this happen, and then boot from the original six and a half-year-old disks. Drivers, try to find lost photos, etc. I have learned about cloning software and have been researching it. So I purchased a Acronos true image 2014 an external Seagate 1TB HD (for other stuff too photos for the wife etc), And an internal hard drive dock, as well as a brand-new 320 GB Western Digital 3.5" 7200 RPM hard drive. Recently received automatic updates for the Win XP. This caused a crash on reboot after the updates were installed and completed. The message is "Stop: C0000221 (bad image checksum).  The image rpcrt4.dll is possibly corrupt.  The header checksum does not match the computed checksum."
I was able to run a repair for the OS (Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004) and was able to use my computer. I tried to identify the most likely update(s) that caused the error, but no luck so far. I was able to update some files and I lost internet connectivity and some other issues. However, a system restore fixed that issue.
I tried to use puppy linux to "fix/repair" the rpcrt4.dll but again failure occurred. Any assistance would be great.

The windows system image backed up on my external hard drive (2TB WD USB3) is not showing while restoring the PC from an image.

The only option available is my hard drive partition on which i also had saved a system image.

What is the reason?
Though windows recommends External hard drive for backing up image when backing up the system.

A:System image on External hard drive is not accesible while restoring PC from image

Your system may not be able to see usb devices at boot. Check in bios for a setting that enables USB at boot. If there isn't such a setting, and if your system is fairly old and can't see the device, you'll have to copy the image to a separate partition on the hd.

I'm trying to use True Image 11 to image the system partition of my laptop. When I get to the place where it asks me to select the partition to image, there are two: the main NTFS system partition and a small recovery partition. Should I select both or just the system partition? I have heard that the recovery partition must be in a certain place on the HD to be usable. If so, and if I needed to restore the image , the recovery partition might not be restored to the same place and would therefore be unusable. Any advice on how to proceed here? Thanks.

A:Using Acronis True Image to image disk with hidden recovery partition

you should image it to the recovery partition, although it may not be a good idea to have it on the same HDD
I myself use an external drive which is probably the safest

My system:
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
C-drive is a 250GB Plextor SSD
Acronis True Image 2011

Background:
I setup a weekly scheduled disk image of my system drive (C that gets sent to an external HDD (4TB). This was working very well for months with incremental backups most of the time and a full backup every five or six weeks. I recently noticed that my backups haven't been happening since mid-August. No errors or anything. They're just not running.

I opened Acronis and tried to run a backup manually. But when I click the Back Up button, nothing would happen. I recreated my backup scheme as a new backup and ran that. It runs, but my computer slows to a crawl and eventually (within minutes) nothing responds to my clicks in or out of Acronis. The hard drive light on the case lights up, and even after I've let it run for several hours, it never finishes. I have to reset the computer to get it back up and running again.

Changing compression levels or priorities doesn't make a difference.

I installed Macrium Reflect and tried running the same disk image backup there, but I had the same problem.

I also tried doing the backup using Windows backup program. The backup doesn't slow down or crash my computer, but it does fail at the end of the process. I get this error:

One of the backup files could not be created.
Details: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

Hello,

Before I re-imaged my laptop, I made sure to do a backup of personal files + a system image in case things went wrong.

The imaging was successful, and now, the new Win7 OS recognizes the old backup as a backup from another computer (as it should).

However, is it possible to manage this old backup? (manage => edit)

Now that I don't need the old system image, I would prefer to get rid of it ... plus, I created a backup for my current image so there's quite a bit of space used by backup files..

Thanks

My new computer, arriving soon, will have Windows 7 Home Premium OS, same OS I have on my current (Old) computer. Using True Image 2013, I made image of the entire Old Computer hard drive (I switched to disk mode). I will recover that image to the New Computer, using Universal Restore, from an Acronis Boot CD. (I read somewhere that recovering an image using the CD recovery disk is not the same as recovering the image using the TI program installed on another drive. Is this true? If so, why would it be?)

I assume that the recovery will overwrite the Win 7 OS in the New Computer, leaving the Win 7 OS from the Old Computer. Is this a problem? Will it affect anything? Is the Win 7 OS on the New Computer going to be different, higher version than the old OS? If so, should I do anything about that, like try to upgrade to the latest version/build? Alternative: should I leave the Win 7 system on new computer, yet recover everything else? How do I do that?

Many thanks for any help. Most appreciative.

A:Need help recovering image to dissimilar hardware with True Image 2013

The restore doesn't overwrite the OS (per se) but instead, since you did a full disk image, it will replace all the existing partitions on that disk (if any) with the partitions contained in the image backup -- essentially, erasing the entire disk. When done, what you have on that disk will the same as what is in the image backup.

Don't know about Universal Restore, since I use Redeploy from Macrium Reflect (MR) to do the same, but in the MR version, you do the following:
1) Connect the media containing the image
2) Boot from an MR CD (or USB)
3) Restore the image to the new disk
4) Insert disk or USB that contains the drivers needed for the new PC
5) Select the MR option to recover to different hardware -- MR then scans the PC for hardware and devices and installs the drivers from the disk or USB that you provided
6) Remove USB and/or disk, and reboot
7) Will boot into OS with new drivers installed

I presume that Universal Restore from Acronis works much the same way ...

I recently had problems with BSOD. I was able to fix the underlying cause, but this got me nervous. So I am thinking of starting a program of periodically creating system images of my laptop - both the C & D drives - so that I could restore my system in the event of hardware failure. Make sense?

I have some questions to make sure that I understand the underlying System Image & Repair disk process, & also when I would use a Windows 7 ISO image.

(1) Am I correct that when I restore from a system image of both C & D drives, that both drives are **totally** recreated?

(2) Will I still have a legal copy of Windows 7 when I restore using the system image?

(3) Should I make sure that I have a repair disk before I restore from system image? If so, why?

(4) Is it necessary to periodically recreate a repair disk? Or once a repair disk is created, it is good for any future repair that may be needed?

(5) There are sites where one can download a Windows 7 ISO image.
    (i) Am I correct that restoring from this image just installs Windows 7 and no other programs?
(ii) Will I still have a legal copy of Windows 7 when I restore using a Windows 7 ISO image?
(iii) When would I restore using a Windows 7 ISO image rather than restoring from a System Image?

Users have (at least) two ways to go to overcome those unforeseen problems that occur.

a.  Make clones of the hard drive reflecting the O/S.

b.  Use backup software which creates a file which can be restored, item for item.

I have done both at some time...right now, I prefer making a clone of my O/S (dual-boot) partitions...while backing up data files on extra hard drives I have lying around.  User preference determines whether a user backs up...or creates a cloned image.

You might take a look at Macrium Reflect, a program that seems to do each pretty well.

Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download - http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

Those ISO files of Windows 7...are covered by this pronouncement here at BC:  Recommending ISOs of Windows Recovery Discs or pre-made ISOs of WinPE-BartPE - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic382841.html .

In addition to being illegal...those .iso files...or any file NOT obtained from a legal, authorized source...are subject to reflect code, errors, malware...or something else that the user has not bargained for, IMO.  If I were a malware misanthrope...that would be my favorite vector...giving an unknowing public something "for free" that they have no desire to legitimately obtain.

I have read about 50 threads in regard to the topic. I'm just looking for clarity here. I have a homebuilt system that got a virus Alureon.gen!k. Before researching it I let windows fix it. Computer won't open any applications now.
Decided to go to my Image to save time (NOT!). The image is on a USB external HDD currently attached directly to the computer. I can't get it to find the bleepin' Image!

The HDD was attached to an NAS over the network where it saved my windows images and backup files from the NAS. The drive's structure looks like this:

E: R6 Backup
Office Server
Office WindowsImageBackup MediaID.bin Data Drive Backup Files

Inside the Office folder are three items: Office, WindowsImageBackup, and a MediaID.bin. The Office folder has file backups. The WindowsImageBackup contains the expected image folders and files.

I understand from the threads that the WindowsImageBackup needs to be in the root of E: so I have done this two ways, neither of whiched worked. First I simply renamed the Root Office folder, and then I undid the rename and moved the WindowsImageBackup out of the Office folder and into the root of E:.

hey,
okay i've installed a new burner on my computer (LG - GCE-8526B). it works. it plays cd's, whatever.
but nero is being a total jerk with it and any time i go to burn audio files, right when i tell it to burn it asks what 'image file' to save it as. if i just type in anything it seems to burn through sucessfully except that the cd is still blank by the end of it.

when i go to "Choose Recorder" it only gives me the option of 'Image Recorder - Virtual device' and i cannot choose anything else or de-select this.

if i go to autodetect cd-rom it only allows access to my E drive (dvd player) (the one i want is F). i checked that it is all installed properly as a slave drive (same as the one i was replacing).
also it won't give me the option of any test burns or a speed choice before burning.

basically how do i make it stop thinking that everything is image files!!
please help! this is driving me nuts!!
appriciate any input
cheers

Hello Antonio, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yes, you could download a Windows 7 ISO for you edition, and use it to create a bootable DVD/USB to install and activate with your COA product key. The tutorial below can help guide you through it.

I see this frequently enough that I am now wanting to know why.

I have set Acronis True Image to limit the maximum file size to 1.95 GB. This is to facilitate putting them onto a DVD later. I don't understand why, occasionally, a file in the middle or beginning of a set is smaller. In the below example, numbers 1 and 8 are much smaller than I would expect, especially #1.

Why is this?

Is this normal?

Sony Vaio VGN-CR320E #1 .tib 770,048
Sony Vaio VGN-CR320E #2 .tib 2,093,796,352

A:Question about the image files Acronis True Image makes

Number 1 is the backup of the partition table (MBR). The others are just smaller because the backup ran out of data before making a full one. The second backup appears to be incremental.

If this is a single backup (which would mean maybe around 35 GB's of used space in XP), then I have no idea why 8 is smaller.

I have a Dell XPS 17 laptop that has dual drives - c & d. The c drive crashed and was replaced by dell. We are now trying to do a system image recovery from the d drive. We are following How to do a System Image Recovery in Window7 from seven forums.com http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/675-system-image-recovery.html
After Selecting the System Image from the D Drive (STEP TWO, # 5 and 6), the computer prompts to create a repair disk. The only way to move forward is to create or not create the disk. In either case, it then has you restart the machine, takes you through the process again.... Step 5/6.... Never gets to Step 7 to actually DO the System Recover!
What am I missing. We have been at this for over 2 weeks and any help would be much appreciated!

A:Windows Image Recovery-Can't move forward after selecting Sys Image

Are you booting off your Windows DVD? Or are you using the Windows Recovery Environment by hitting DEL or PF8 to pull up Windows Repair?

I would think the only time you are asked to create a repair disk is during the actual TAKING/creating of the System Image (after it is complete).

I'm using Outlook 2003 on Windows 2000.

I am using Outlook preview pane. When I preview a message that has embedded images, the first image will be blank with the red x in the upper left corner. However, any remaining images in that email or the email trail are displaying properly.

If I click on "forward" and Outlook opens the message in a new window, then ALL images display properly - including the first one that was not displaying in the preview mode.

This has happened to me in the past, then it started working correctly, then yesterday I'm back to having the error. No new programs were installed yesterday. The only thing I can think of that I did yesterday was to turn on Google Desktop Toolbar within Outlook. I have since turned it off and restarted Outlook and restarted my PC and still have the problem.

I have ran detect and repair and it did not help.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thank you

Hi! I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong forum and if a thread on this subject already exists, I just couldn't think of any other place to put it.

I got Windows 8 and it's working pretty much perfect after I fixed a few issues. But there's an interesting thing happening, and I don't know if it's a 'feature' or something I can correct. When I go into one of my image folders and right click on one of my pictures to set it ask my desktop background, it will work, but then the image folder will scroll all the way all the way back up to the top, and it does this every single time.

This is kind of annoying, and I'm not sure why it does this... is there anything I can do about it, or am I missing something obvious?

Thanks!

This happens most often to my Windows 7 Forum shortcut.
This what it looks like now.......

Now and then, it would change into something like a globe. A little later, it would revert back to the " normal " image.

What causes that ?

NO, I did not install anything when this happened last time.

Thank you.

A:desktop shortcut image changes then back to initial image

Does the screen flicker when this occurs?

If so, I'd guess it's something to do with Windows temporarily switching from Aero to Basic for some reason.

That in itself would suggest you may have some sort of a conflict with your graphics card or setup.

You might want to check the Event Logs and see if there is anything untoward going on.

On Recovery Partition.

Hi,

Have had a search and can find nothing concerning the question I have - I'm not even sure if this is the correct forum.

I have a Dell Venue 11 Pro (5130) running Windows 8.1 Pro, what I would like to do, if possible, is to replace the factory restore on the recovery partition with a custom image so that if or when
the factory rest option is selected it uses my custom image and not the default one.

The problem I am having is that the default image is only 6GB in size where as when I create my custom image it is approx 14GB in size.

Is there a way of editing the default image to add in certain settings and software?

Regards

Fugazi

A:Replacing Factory Restore Image With Custom Image ...

Modifying the System Recovery partition is not what you want to do.  You will not be able to modify is, and you may find that you need to use this at some time in the future.  I would suggest that you use a program like Macrium Reflect.  You can find a tutorial for it here.

Just thought I would share the solution I found to my problem mounting .iso images in Windows 8 Pro.

The very helpful error message I was getting was this:

and in powershell I got this:
Essentially the problem is that windows .iso mounting does not like 'sparse' files. I had used Acronis backup to backup my original .iso files and this DOES use sparse files. You can check if a file is 'sparsed' by looking at the files details in properties. The 'P' in the attributes represents a sparse file. See the screenshot below.

The result? When I restored my .iso images I could no longer mount them.

The simplest solution I have found is to just copy the .iso to a new file - this seems to create the new file without the sparse flag set.

Hope this helps somebody!

A:Windows 8 refuses to mount .iso image because image is 'sparse'

For anyone that is curious.. Sparse files are files that have "reserved" space in them that is not technically part of the data. An application can create a sparse file so that it leaves room to expand it in the middle without having to recopy all the data. I can understand why Acronis would do this for a backup image.

Shouldn't Acronis also have a file viewer?

I have Corel Photo House and Photoshop 4 photo editing software. I don't really use them a lot, and admit that I'm not very good at doing most things. One thing I've had occasion to do lately is to take a person from one image and copy it to a second image. The problem is that it takes a really steady hand, and patience, to trace around the outline of what I want to copy. I try to facilitate this by slowing my cursor to crawl speed, but I still have trouble accurately following the subject's outline.

Is there software -- preferably freeware -- that has an easy way of transposing/copying portions of an image?

It's my otherhalfs parents PC who have been away so i've been using it to check his emails/run his business. This happens with each program I open, it happens on the windows start up screen a couple of times when selecting which user to log in as, then comes up alot when the PC has started up

I've posted some logs below if they make sense to anyone?

The tutorials here mention installing a SATA driver to access disks that are not recognized, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

Any suggestions?

not sure if I am doing something wrong..
I am now installing Windows 10 clean install to the SSD, in the hope it will ' prep' it and then try again.

At that point there should have been an option with Acronis to format and partition the SSD, as it appears there was no partition on it.

AFAIK you should not have to "prep" the SSD in any way, as so long as it is recognized by your PC's BIOS Acronis will take over the formatting of it when you Restore from your HDD image backup.

Hello, I have recently developed a problem. Every time I go to open up an application, I get a bad image error saying the application or DLL is not a valid Windows image and to check it against my installation diskette. I have seen multiple problems like this on the forums here, but the solutions look pretty specific to each problem (sorry if I'm wrong about that).

Anyway, I have done virus scans with AVG Free, Malwarebytes, and Microsoft Security Essentials, all of which have found something. I have cleaned up all of these problems, but I'm still getting the bad image errors. The weird thing is when I go to open up an application, for example Google Chrome, I get the bad image error, I click "OK", and Chrome goes ahead and opens like nothing ever happened. This is the same deal with all of my other applications.

I have posted my HijackThis log below (since it appears to be mandatory for solving the problem), and thank you to anyone who can help!

I previously backed up my C drive with no problem. The other day I did a new backup and when it reached the end it gave me Error 56 "Specified sector not in valid read or write range." I had to click OK and it shut down. After trying to create a backup when it go to resize the partition again, it got to 2% of the total partition resizing and was checking the index structure I got the same error message... Then after it went to 100% I got the error message, "Unable to restore image. The first primary partition on drive 1 is not of type FAR, FAT32, NTFS or free space."
When I tried to reboot I got a blue screen of death which flashed so quickly I couldn't read the message. It could not load windows so it gave me the black screen with the different options <safe mode, last good configuration, etc.> nothing worked.
I tried to restore my image and after trial and tribulation the entire progress restores to 75% and copying data 100% then it was checking the file entries and lost clusters <entire progress 80% and I got the Error #56 again.

I think your C: drive when you boot from the Win98 CD is your CD itself. That's because its DOS you are in, and the primary partition (if it is still readable) is NTFS.

Can you delete any partition in the target disk and try the restore again? Make sure you have nothing but unpartitioned space before you start. This may get rid of the error.

Uhuh. So I'm sure you've heard of this before, because I've read it on a few other forums. however, my problem has some quirks.

So i turned on my computer the other morning, and everything was restored to the way it was when I originally got it. I went to Help and Support in the Start menu, and something popped up that said blahblahblah.DLL is not a valid windows image. It did the same thing with Windows Messenger, and Windows Live.

Now most of the support forums are saying to just reformat everything with the installation disks because I have malware. However I can't do this because my laptop is an Acer Aspire One, and doesn't have a disk drive.

Is there any way around reformatting with the disks?

Thanks so much!!!

Most image programs make such an image of the entire drive/partition, unless you specify otherwise. If you had bot images on that drive, then one would have overwritten the other. Best is to make you images in another partition/HD from that which you are copying.

I am looking at a system for a friend that has got W7 Home Premium installed. However, he made a system image of his Windows 7 Ultimate system (using Backup and Restore) as he has all his work applications on it (some of the software he uses won't work with W8 or W10.)
I booted the system with a W7 Home Premium DVD with the external drive (with the image on) plugged in. It listed W7 on the drive, but when I clicked on Next, it said This version of the recovery options in not compatible. This also happens if I select to Restore an image from a different drive.

Hi
I foolishly took on a friend's infested PC as a favour. I've got most of the problems sorted but there remains an intemitent windows pop-up saying "Bad image: SensAPI.DLL not a valid Windows image". This appears repeatedly, especially at startup, when installing something or particularly (so it seems to me) when using antimalware programs like Spybot or Hijack this. When installing Zonealarm is popped up hundreds of times and nearly prevented me from doing it. The title bar of the pop-up will have the name of an executable such as zlclient.exe for Zonealarm.

Maybe this is actually a corrupted DLL but other pages I've read suggest it could be malware. Any advice or suggestions appreciated. You ask to specify the type of infection. I'm sorry but I don't know exactly. Please feel free to ask for more details.

Does anyone know about this trojan and could it be related to the sensapi.dll issue described in my original post?
The sensapi.dll pop-up pops up nearly 200 times in the first minute at startup with zlclient.exe in the title bar. Once I've closed all these by clicking the x in the corner it seems to behave itself.

I need a little help figuring this out. I made a backup image a while back on my network. Now that I want to re-image, I reboot as requested, wait for it to load, and Windows says it can't find my backup, "if it is on a network, close this window , type the network location."

Putting in the network location does nothing, I'm just returned to the screen where it would list the backup image if it had found it, but there's nothing there.

Thinking perhaps my NAS was the problem I copied the image onto a portable hard drive, but after rebooting into the restore program, Windows 7 doesn't find the USB drive.

I know the image was good, because I got an "image successful" message when I made it. Any ideas?

A:"Bad image" / "not a valid Windows image" error

Update: fixed!

I appreciate that y'all help folks for free on here, but nonetheless got a little bit impatient looking at a possible week's waiting time, messed around a bit and what I did ended up fixing it. Hopefully sharing this info here may help others with this same issue.

After running multiple antivirus, anti-malware, and anti-spyware scans that still didn't fix it, what ended up working was running sfc\ scannow to scan and repair system files and deleting the dll file mentioned in the error message (and that folks here said looked like a malware / spyware generated dll rather than an authentic file), mswnlwkl.dll. I no longer get the error and now Firefox works just fine again.

My best guess was that it wasn't a malware that was generating the error messages, but rather one of the spyware or antivirus programs I used deleted a virus that had changed some information somewhere in the registry or a DLL file (or whatever), and that was calling on this rogue DLL file that Windows couldn't recognize. Basically a virus was removed but left behind traces that screwed with some of the system files.

I am getting multiple dialog boxes showing up when I boot up my computer and while I navigate through my computer once it's booted. The dialog boxes read:"Bad Image- The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\0034.DLL is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."THere are multiple files being used under this error as well. All coming from my System32 folder. How Can I get rid of this problem? It is extremely annoying. Is it a virus? Should I just delete all the files? Hi everyone,

I have been trying to restore to a system image located on my had drive, i boot up into the recovery tool and select system image recovery, Once the box opens up it begins searching for an image to restore to. But every time i get an error saying windows can not find a system image on your computer. It says attach the back up hard drive to the computer and try again. It will never detect my backup image, but it detects my hard-drive. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

The folder with the image is called Windowsimagebackup. there is nothing else on the hard drive but that.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
