Hi,
I have just deleted @BIOS because I just read where it has no known benefit, I did this because my system is running is slow .

In Facebook the settings have altered so I cannot access the title part of frames to click on or the bottom of friends list to see the content,

Also the pages in general have this stupid advertising called Discovery that keeps coming up across the bottom of page

Also there is advertising that keeps coming up over the images of items for sale, this is adverting similar items
Can you please advise how best to get rid of this unwanted advertising and correct other issues please.
Thank you

I have an HP Pavilion Laptop, Windows 7-64bit.
My WMP11 does the following:
1. It clones music titles...even in front of my eyes.
2. Music files disappear.
3. Titles are now assuming wrong names even though content remains.
4. My music files come from my Music Library. Those have not changed or cloned..

5. I deleted WMP11 and re-installed...but all the above errors returned.
6. My Library files are skewed. Music is mixed with Video and with Documents and all around. Why? I dunno.
7. My music library is around 25GB; but it changes with the losses mentioned in #2 above.
8. I tried RealPlayer but their format leaves a lot to be desired by me. Also, it keeps requiring Flashplayer and no matter how many time I download it, it asks for it again.
9. I am 80 years old, not very computer savvy and I'm blessed with Parkinsons. Music is my hobby.
10. HELP.....PLEASE!

Help been receiving messages to compress my email. I use outlook express. I do not have a lot of email on the laptop I am using - what i have is `specialist'.

Have used aol for over 5 years. Up 2 years ISP aol and then to June this year, Plusnet relay.

Yesterday, during a saving proces into a compressed file to send to my uni, aa microsoft window appears. and at speed it is copying my inbox. It disappears and then when I look at email, find all that is left is 12/12/11 to 7/1/11. My uni checked my laptop. They are not in the archives. But they find some arriving into outlook under the title of `home' from aol.webmail (I use this a lot for everyday stuff)

I need these emails urgently and how to stop this happening in the future. I use Comodo av & firewall with Microsoft defender

Thanks in advance for what you can do. Oh yeah a trojan was quarantined about three days ago, but the offer to compress email has been showing since porbably March.

Okay so, I don't know if this matters but, I'm currently running my system in safe-mode with networking so it wont reboot on me.

So, a few days ago, in the middle of watching Red Riding Hood, my computer rebooted. Since then, it's gotten to the point where the computer reboots every few minutes, any time I log on and try to run anything, be it virus scans or whatever. And if I don't try to run anything, it will work for awhile then freeze up at which point I'll have to do a hard reboot. In safe mode, I've run both my virus programs, McAfee and Malwarebytes. Neither come up with any viruses. However, when I run CCleaner, it seems to come up with a couple of windows related issues, which it says it fixes but, it doesn't solve my issue.

So figuring windows got corrupted somehow, I wanted to reinstall. But BIOS doesn't recognize my dvd rom.

Once IN windows, it recognizes the dvd drive and installs it, but when I look at the device manager, it's installed ... Read more

I've just upgraded Win7 Home Premium to Win8 Pro on an HP Omni 27-1007ev machine, which had Office Starter 2010 bundled.

I carried out all the HP pre-upgrade recommendations to update HP, Windows and Office Starter before I upgraded to Win8, warning else Starter 2010 would not work in Win8.

Now when I open Starter 2010 it informs me its installed and that I should access it from Start/All Programs/Office Starter, etc. Dialogue also offers 'activate - have key' or 'purchase key' - for full 2010 product.

Obviously I can't use the Start/All Programs option in Win8 - or can I.

Oddly if I open a previously saved Word or Excel document it cranks up Office Starter 2010 with no problems.

Has anyone any idea how I can resolve this.

Thanks, Rob

A:Office Starter 2010 - bundled version...

I've not seen more on this but Microsoft won't allow word 10 starter on Windows 8, some boloney about it must be installed by the computer manufacturer and thus microsoft is helpless to do anything about it. In reality Microsoft has decided not to allow it's use with Windows 8 so you will have to go with a purchased office or one of the free Open Office choices (I think they will work in 8. Wordperfect could be a choice as well.

A little cynicial of Microsoft not to provide an alternative to handle all those .docx documents.

So I am trying to do the upgrade as I have had some issues with my desktop for a while. Simply will not open Malwarebytes except in safe mode. Other programs wouldn't open either. So I began mainly using my laptop. Needless to say I now HAVE to use my desktop for a few days and decided to upgrade to WIN 10 (I have it on laptop and its fine). I have tried dozens of times to upgrade only to keep encountering an error that Microsoft Office Starter 2010 needs to be uninstalled...but it is NO WHERE on my computer that I can find. I have tried uninstalling everything that has to do with Office (including 2016 version). No clcik-to-run items listed in program files. Did a search of C drive and came across two items marked Microsoft office starter 2010. Deleted them (no option to uninstall). Restarted. Searched the same way...nothing. Try upgrade. Failed again! Same error message. About to toss this old beast out the window...suggestions??

A:Microsoft Office Starter 2010 Won't Open

Hi jmrpjb,

Please double-check if the program that you uninstalled is 'Word Starter 2010' or 'Office Starter 2010'? Please share the exact steps that you performed to uninstall it.

You may also try the following steps to repair the 'Office Starter' in the mean while:
- Click 'Control Panel' > 'Programs' > 'Programs and Features' > Locate 'Microsoft Office Starter - English' > 'Right click' it and select 'Change' > Select 'Repair' > Follow through with the repair process

- If the issue persists, you may also try to uninstall 'Click to run' and configure 'Office Starter' again: "Cannot be opened" error when you start an Office Starter 2010 program.

'Office Starter 2010' is a 'factory installed' program that may not be re-installed. If any vital file has been accidentally deleted; or the program could not be repaired by the above mentioned steps, you may have to try to restore the system settings back to 'factory defaults'.

You may want to have a close look at the following article also: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982434

Hope this helps. Please share the findings; will take it forward.

Short answer- you cant.

Long answer- Starter is only for win7. More importantly, Starter is legally usable only when it comes preinstalled on oem computers preinstalled with win7. So you're also breaching the eula.

I recently performed a recovery operation on my HP Allin In One Pc 320 1010a to enable some components of the PC to be able to function. In doing this I lost the use of several programs including my Microsoft Officer Starter Pack 2010 which is very important to me considering I am the secretary of our local social club and responsible for typing up all the minutes, sending out correspondence and creating notices for our public notice boards. I have downloaded a free copy of this software but when installing it I get the error message "you must remove Microsoft Office Starter Pack and then install it again." I have tried to remove it using windows 7 uninstaller but it will not/cannot remove it so I try to install the replacement software but once again get the same error messaghe and the same result when trying to uninstall the software. So around and around I go HEHEHE. When I look at the programs list I find the software has a folder title but no contents in that folder. Is that why I can't remove it.

I'd be ever so thankful for any assistance anyone can provide me and I'd be over the moon if I can get Microsoft Office operating again.

Thanks for your assistance

What is the right way to proceed in order to get Office on this machine again?

A:missing Microsoft Office Starter 2010 from the installation disk

Broiyan, When you said that you re-installed windows from the DVD, was this the sya dvd's that you first made when you got your machine? Or was it just a windows 7 dvd?

Most OEM's can provide a ms office 2010 starter dvd if you ask them.

I "installed" microsoft office starter 2010 on my computer. After a week, I have not been able to open any programs affiliated with microsoft office starter due to click 2 run configuration failure. I was wanting to "uninstall" mso starter due to all the hassles with the program so I did a system restore with a date prior to the "installation." Will this completely remove mso starter from my hard drive?

Hey,

I have tried everything I know or could read to no avail. HP had me clean my ram with a eraser, do a couple of other things, including removing everything on my start-up. They couldn't figure anything out. So I have come to you. Info should be attached below.

As far as I know I havent installed any new hardware. Firefox stopped working when this started and it happened at random intervals. I have also gotten the following error codes from various screens: 0X0000007E, 0X0000001A, 0X0000003B.

Fairly new/decent computer. No previous trouble. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi -

Well, they missed quite a bit, I am sorry to say.

The bugchecks -

I don't believe it to be RAM at this time because you have several device drivers that badly need to be updated. Any one of these or in combination with another could have caused memory corruption.

My original post requested this information but perhaps it was buried in the text explaining the details of the problem . So this is for HP tech support if you are out there:I am an official member of the One Million User Windows 10 Failure Club. Unfortunately this club has no benefits. I have an H-Joshua-H61-UATX motherboard that cant get past boot post. No screen, no cursor blah, blah, blah. CLR CMOS has proved useless. My last effort before I purchase a Mac will be to move around the jumpers for the BIOS RECOVERY, FLASH OVERRIDE, OT RESET, and OT RECOVERY blocks. The BIOS Recovery has 4 blocks of 2 pins with pin 4 missing. Pin 1-2 came jumped. The other blocks are 2 pin each, and are blank. These pins are there for a purpose but the community has found no information on them including how to use them for possibly recovering the BIOS. YOU ( HP) have this information. If you will not provide it please explain why not vise ignoring our requests.  I am sure the community understands the  risks associated with tweaking the BIOS ( tell Microsoft), but we are out of options. Please do not stand by ignoring our requests. We are already getting that from Microsoft.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details). If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Hi everyone,
I have recently upgraded my XPS 14Z from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  However, now none of my Office Starter 2010 programs will load.  No message, just the rotating circle mouse icon for a few seconds then nothing.  Trying to 'modify' the office installation in Control Panel gets the same response.  I might be abel to uninstall, but where would I re-install from and would I need a product key?
Thanks for any tips.

A:Office Starter 2010 and Windows 10

Office 2010 Starter is obsolete and has been replaced by Office WebApps. See here for details:
https://www.office.com/?ms.officeurl=webapps
This gives you basic, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote.
The limitation is that you have to store your files in your OneDrive and edit in a Web Browser.

Hi,

I went to install Office 2007 Home and Student on my new win7 pro 64bit machine and it stalled almost 4/5 of the way through, giving me an error.

Checked error code, and it seems (I think) I need to uninstall the 2010 starter version on my machine before I can install another version (couldn't they have told me that at the beginning of the install). Instead of doing that I decided to activate and try the free, starter version.

Have I opened a can of worms? Can I update the starter version (with security updates, etc.) without being forced nto upgrading it to a pay version? ?

Probably what I should do - is uninstall it, and go back and install my 2007 version.

A:Office 2010 Starter, questions?

Yes, Starter can be updated & I think even upgraded later as I'm sure I read it has the full Office code built in but don't quote me on that.

Office Starter 2010 is free on new computers & is ad-supported.

It only contains Word & Excel with a few features stripped out from the full version like Home & Student.

I also don't have a virus scan right now and I wanted to download one from my wireless service provider but can't. I did online scan from their website and it keeps on skipping 6 files. I am afraid to go online with out protection and desperately need help. Thanks.

I've got a Samsung notebook running Win7 HP x64. Office 2010 came preloaded on it. When you click on it it present the options to buy or enter a key for the full prog, or to use Starter for free.

Starter will not install. It goes through all the motions and then errors out after several minutes.

Neither will it uninstall. MS Office 2010 Click to Run is listed in Programs and Features, but the uninstall operation "cannot be completed".

So I'm stuck. I even tried Revo uninstaller, to no avail. I would appreciate any leads on this. I've checked several forums, and haven't come up with a solution yet.

Just bought a new HP PC and it came with Office 2010 Starter Edition. Haven't actually used it yet, though.

I've been looking around to find out what the "upgrade" prices are to turn this into Office 2010 Home and Student -- and apparently, there aren't any.

If I understand it, the following is now the case:
1) Office 2010 Starter Edition is FREE
2) There is no "upgrade" price for other editions
3) Upgrading other editions involves paying the standard full-retail prices.

Have I got it right? Or have I missed something?

A:Upgrading Office 2010 Starter Edition

I don't recall there ever being upgrade versions of Office to go from one package to another. The only upgrades were to go from an older, previous version to another. That would make absolutely no business sense to offer a cheaper upgrade from a free product than the standard full version.

If you don't need any of the premium features, why not just use Office Live?

Hi,I have recently bought a new laptop computer after my desktop died, too much work!! The new one came with MS Office 2010 starter pre-installed. However, I already have and have already used, on the old computer, MS Office Professional 2010 which I need for work.So far, I have uninstalled the starter version and I installed my copy of MS Office Professional 2010 on it with the relevant serial. To this point everything seemed to be going well. I transferred over the documents from the external HDD to their own folder and also this went well. NOW the problem starts when I try to open a word or Excel file. If I double click to open one of these files, instead of the file opening a Window opens up saying that the MS Office product is not installed and gives these three possible options:1, "I have already purchased Office 2010 - ACTIVATE";2, "Go online to purchase Office 2010 - GO ONLINE" or3, "Use Office Starter 2010 - USE"If I first open the adapt Office program and choose "OPEN" from the menu and open the file that way it opens OK.What can I do? A:Microsoft Starter 2010

A common problem from what I've heard. Here's the suggested fix:

1. click on Start

2. Type "appwiz.cpl" and press enter.

3. Check if Microsoft Office 2010 is in the list, you'll need it later.

4. Click on Microsoft Office Starter 2010 and select "Remove". This will open the standard uninstaller of Office 2010.

5. Click on Yes in the window that just popped up.

6. Go to Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office 2010.

7. Click on "Use", and in the next window, click on "Open". This will re-install Microsoft Office Starter 2010.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Upon starting a new document, I entered the margins prior to typing. I entered the Title of the document and centered it horizontally 1.0" from top. I do my work using Print Layout and when I did this particular one, the title is at the top edge with no space even though the top margin is set at 1.0". Then when I viewed it by going to the Print mode, the margin is 2.0", and the bar at the bottom shows the amount of the "line" at 1.5". So I've got all these different top margins and the one I formatted my document with doesn't even show up in any view. White space is checked, I have no columns and rows setup, I deleted the title and typed it again and it still shows the different margins. I have spent over 1.5 hours today looking for the problem and doing research online. You're my last hope. Can you help me so that I'll know what to do when it happens again? Thank you

I want to upgrade these laptops to Win 7 Pro in order to be able to join them to a domain. But, legitimate Win 7 installs are getting hard to find. Those that I have found do a clean install only.

Is there a way to save my Office Starter software such that I can restore it after the clean install?

I have Windows 7. I have used Microsoft office starter that came with my Dell for 3 or 4 years now. Don't need full blown office so I never purchased it. Now, it will not open. I get the same message when trying to open excel or word: "Microsoft Excel (Word) Starter 2010 cannot be opened. Try again or repair the product in Control Panel." I am very computer illiterate. I tried a system restore but that didn't help. I tried using control panel and searching for a fix, but I don't really know what I am looking for.

A little history: about 10 days ago I tried to upgrade my AVG free edition. Some glitch caused my pc to only reboot in safe mode. From there I did a system restore, then uninstalled AVG. Seemed to be fine. I installed a free Panda antivirus program. Didn't notice anything wrong, but when I tried to use excel for my payroll spreadsheet, it would not open. I tried word with same result. I performed another system restore and the only difference I see is that Panda is suddenly gone but I didn't uninstall it.

I have no idea what to do and I need those files badly. If anyone can help I would be so very grateful. Just please be very specific in your replies, please. STEP BY STEP! Thanks!

A:Microsoft starter 2010 can not open

Have you actually tried what it suggested by running a repair? Go to Control Panel, Programs, Programs & Features, and then locate Starter 2010 in the list. If it works the same as the other versions of office, you should see three options at the top, i.e. Organize, Uninstall and Change. Click on Change. When the window opens, click on Repair, and then follow the prompts from there.

Well, my son being the computer savvy expert that he is called the freakin number. He let whomever on the other end log into our computer and then told my son he needs $200.00 to clean it up for us. Could anyone tell me what (if any) damage could have been done?? This is the kids computer, so, as far as i know there is no important login information on it. But it is connected to the house wifi and I just don't know if that could be an issue.

So in recent days I have been advised by Microsoft that they cannot provide me with support resolving a windows 10 activation issue. I replaced a motherboard for one of my clients and it failed activation even after reentering the key. Everything looked as it should be to activate. I went to Microsoft for support and they refused to help me because i am a technician ..not the owner of the PC. This policy of not providing tech support to computer repairers because they are not the owners of the system is ridiculous. I am interested to know if anyone else has had similar experiences from microsoft "support"

New motherboard (if it's a different model than the one you replaced) = new system according to Microsoft's EULA/ToS for Windows keys. So if it's an OEM key, new motherboard = buy a new key.

Curious if anyone has tried this service. Seems like a lot of newbie problems can be fixed here ... and for free.

Get Free Windows PC Tech Support and Malware Removal at Your Local Microsoft Store

What You Can Get For Free

This service is a part of Microsoft?s in-store ?Answer Desk? service. Think of it a bit like the Genius Bar at an Apple Store ? yes, those Microsoft Stores feel very modelled on Apple Stores.
The Answer Desk website allows you to choose a nearby store and make a free appointment. Drop in and a ?Service Advisor? will offer some free services for any Windows laptop, no matter where you purchased it.
Free services include ?extended diagnostics,? ?software repair or support,? ?virus and malware removal,? and ?PC tune-ups.? For comparison, just the ?Virus and spyware removal? costs $199.99 if you go to Best Buy?s Geek Squad instead.
We recommend against using the Geek Squad, obviously. You can service your computer on your own. But, if you do want some professional help, you can get it for free. And, if you have relatives you live near a Microsoft Store and they ask you to help remove malware from their PCs and make it run faster, you can tell them to take it to a Microsoft Store and have Microsoft do the work so you can avoid the frustration and save your own time.

There?s always a catch. Microsoft Stores are retail stores where they want to make money, not service locations operated only for the benefit of their customers. They do offer some paid services,... Read more

It can't hurt to try, but I'd prefer finding support online or having a trusted, tech-savvy friend look at it first. In theory, they should be experts on their own products, so much of it will depend on the particular agent you are dealing with. If I had a relative that I couldn't get to easily, I'd probably suggest it, because the people at Best Buy's Geek Squad are clueless.

I am thankful for the volunteers at BC; good morning to all.

Everything was fine last night, but this morning no Word/Excel Starter 2010 docs will open.  The popup reads:

"Microsoft Word Starter cannot be opened.  Try again or repair the product in Control Panel."

I did this Change/Repair from Control Panel and got this message:

"Repair Microsoft Office Click-to-Run
Repairing Microsoft Office Starter 2010 - English was unsuccessful because an internet connection is required.  Ensure your computer can access the internet and try again."

I think it's obvious I do have internet access because I'm submitting this topic, but apparently MSFT Office doesn't know this.

I opened Click-to-Run Application Manager at the Control Panel and got the same error message as above. Snip attached.

I restarted and attempted the Change/Repair from the Control Panel with the same results.

From glancing in Microsoft Community concerning this, I see that those for whom the repair would not work were encouraged to uninstall Microsoft Word Starter 2010 at Control Panel, then go to Start>Programs>Microsoft Office 2010>click "use", click "open", then reinstall Office Starter 2010...however, each said this didn't work as there is no "use" option available, plus there's an error that Click-to-Run Application Manager won't function.

I tried to do System Restore back to 11/7/2015, but I'm still getting the same "unabl... Read more

I have initiated the 'Word Starter' on my new pc, Word started off ok and I managed to create a letter template, but now when I open Word and use it I find that it does not close down, the little blue circle starts and nothing happens... then it says 'Not Responding' and I have to click the red x again and a box comes up asking me to re-start or close Word, and after a short period it closes down.???

WHAT a MONTH! My "new", now 4 mo old system had a bad memory stick which caused sooo many problems that I have had to reformat hard drive, reinstall W2KPro, and start all over! Have been on the line with MS tech support almost constantly for the last 22 days. Bummer! BUT... hopefully this system will operate correctly now...
I use a free auction build/submit software called AuctionSubmit for posting eBay auctions. The eBay "categories" need to be updated or it will not post the built auctions. When I try to update I get a ( run-time error 3315: Field categories can't be a zero-length string ) pop-up box. This program did work on the machine before the reinstall just fine. The other thing that has changed is installing Norton Internet Security software. Is there a possible conflict between the two programs? I really need to get back to work but can't without the Auction Submit. Help!!!
Thanks,
Jan

A:Need help after Microsoft Tech Support! Run-time error! @#?&!!!

A lot of AntiVirus, Firewall and other similar software can cause headaches through conflicts etc. The best plan is to shut down such software before installing anything else. Try uninstalling your ebay program, shut down norton, reinstall ebay and then turn norton back on (allow for restarts etc), this may solve your problem. Good luck.

The other possible causes could be that you are running different versions following your reinstall of Windows; ensure all your software's upto date if you can, this tends to result in smoother systems altogether.

Hope this helps.

The title pretty much says it all. What I have been seeing for some time now is a lot of my clients that click on ads in the right hand advertising panel of the facebook page have ended up with malware on their systems and big warnings on the screen to call a toll free number to fix their system and when they do are told it is Microsoft tech support which it is not and they want access to your system. If you give it to them you are then really in a jackpot of a problem. So just a warning, I tell my clients that it is a good rule of thumb NOT to click on anything in the right pane of their page as you have no clue which ones will cause this issue. Of late mostly the ones about stars dying or having other problems seem to be the most likely ones but I have seen it in others as well. One would think that facebook would do something about these type of things but sadly they are about the almighty dollar and don't seem to care. So every one please watch what you click on facebook. Especially if it seems to good to be true because if so it usually is.

A:The Facebook Microsoft Tech Support Scam.

Unsolicited phone calls, browser pop-ups and emails (aka Tech Support Scamming) from "so-called Support Techs" advising "your computer is infected with malware", “All Your Files Are Encrypted" and other fake "alert messages" has become an increasing common and prolific scam tactic over the past several years. The scams may involve web pages with screenshots of fake anti-virus software displaying warnings of bogus malware infections, fake ransomware and fake BSOD which include a tech support phone number to call in order to fix the problem. More nefarious scammers will talk their victims into allowing them remote control access of the computer so they can install a Remote Access Trojan in order to steal passwords and other sensitive personal information which could then be used to access bank accounts or steal a person's identity.Microsoft does not make unsolicited phone calls, display pop-up alerts in your browser to call a support number or send unsolicited email messages to request personal or financial information or to fix your computer. If you have not done so already, you may want to read Beware of Phony Emails & Tech Support Scams.

Okay so this is a pretty long story. Anyways I needed C++ Redis 2015 for a program for school to work, It kept failing so I went through the trouble shoots, repairing, deleting, reinstalling, repairing all previous C++ redist versions, restarting computer etc etc Then I went to the next trouble shoot which was to update windows. It would not update even after running the update reset tool and cc cleaner and at this point I was fed up and contacted Microsoft.
After about three hours of the techie screwing around in my pc she says lets try updating to win10. I say fine as long as I can downgrade back to win7. It upgrades, windows updates are working but god win 8/10 on a non touch screen sucks. So I almost immediately switch back to win7 after confirming that windows updates are working and C++ redist 2015 would download without fail. But apparently the techie deleted my catroot folders at some point into her troubleshooting, I stopped paying attention after like 2 hours. This of course corrupted my bios. Which gave me the amazing 0000000X6 Process1_FAILURE_INITIATE BSOD
At this point I had been up like 20 hours and stopped using my brain, she recommends I get into bios and switch the boot options to my Disc Drive and reinstall windows which I knew I wasn't going to do because I have like 100 hours of school work including my dissertation and thesis and 80% of my group project on it and am not willing to lose it. And here lies the problem, after my frustration and exh... Read more

I appear to have multiple viruses wreaking havoc. At first things were just v. slow, then there were a few screen wipeouts and my wireless connection just kept shutting down. Now, I am only able to boot my computer to XP using the Last Good Configuration, must go to the internet directly thru the Verizon DSL box (Linksys Wireless G not working at all), and must disable patch-resistant Sasser popups using Run/shutdown -a before I can get on the web. And once I am on the net, I can browse generally and check yahoo email but can't log in to other password sites (for example, MyEbay) or complete online transactions (for example, purchasing anti spyware software online), and I battle constant pop up ads.

I was on the phone with microsoft yesterday about one virus I identified - Sasser. They had me download two files to fix it - the Sasser Worm Removal Tool (KB841720) and I believe a patch (KB835732) but they didn't work. Tech Support gave up, said I was probably "infested" with other viruses that were preventing these tools from working. Can someone help me?

I've run samples of other anti trojan and spyware and virus hardware - some found nothing wrong with my machine (Trojan Hunter, Panda) - others found multiple issues. Spyware Doctor found 14 infections including Splotchbar, Altnet Software, Rapid Blaster and C-Dilla, among other lesser items and Xoft Spy found a worm and a trojan horse I believe not listed in Spyware Doctor - but I can't get tho... Hi: Office 2010 Starter only installs on PC's with W7 (which is what your PC came with originally). It would still work if you upgraded from W7 to W10 and it was installed on W7, but now that you have installed W10, it won't work. There are free Office-type programs out there that will read and edit MS Office files. I like this one for example... http://www.ksosoft.com/downloads/windows

Many changes between 2007 and 2010 - I've read elsewhere that there's not much, but that's not correct. Here's my list, curious what others have found:

Good
1.) Each program launches almost instantly. In the grand scheme of the universe, what's a couple seconds? But now when you open a program and - boom - it's up, I must say I like that. Also like the little colored swirly stuff in the splash page.

2.) Ribbon - had no problem with it in 2007, but I know people who hated it and it wasn't consistent with all the programs. Making it customizable is a gigantic improvement.

3.) Backstage page - At first I didn't know what to think, but now I like the organization it brings. Much better than that dumb gleaming dot.

4.) OneNote - I use this almost every second of my waking life, I can't believe MS in the past has relegated this thing to the low end of the totem pole. Finally, a full visual upgrade. Linked notes - excellent. Search is improved. Page/subpage sidebar is easier to read, and I like how you can close and open all the subpages under a page. Draw mode much more user friendly.

5.) Word - Drag and drop. What the hell took so long? Easier to work with photos, charts, etc. Most likely never edit photos in Word because I've used Photoshop for the past gazillion years. But I must admit, for bare bones stuff, this is sufficient.

6.) Outlook- much better organization. This might be more drastic for me than most because I stopped using it for a few years. Setting up your acc... Read more

Help!

As I shut my machine down last night Windows informed me it was doing 15 updates, which I allowed it to do.

This morning, the machint took a little extra time to boot up, I guess because it was finalising configurations.

Now I see all my icons for Word/ Excel in the folders and on Desktop have turned orange. When I click on a Word/ Excel Icon I get a dialogue box promting me to Activate an already purchased copu of Office 2010, Go online to purchase, or Try Office free for a limited time.

I have tried a Repair on Office 2010 Starter, but that has made no difference.

I am, however, able to open the documents by opening the application (Word/ Excel) and searching for the documents via the application's Open dialogue box.

Does anybody know what I need to do to fix this?

TIA.

Hi

Does anyone know how or if there is a way to reinstall MS Office Starter 2010 back onto my Toshiba laptop? I purchased this in 2012 and it came with this preinstalled but I have uninstalled this following MS advice when unable to open WORD yesterday. Instructions online to 'fix' this problem were to uninstall and then reinstall but this isn't happening! I have contacted MS who told me to contact Toshiba but have been told that once uninstalled as this was preinstalled when purchased then it can't be reinstalled. Has anyone else had this same problem and, if so, have anyone managed to get the software back???

Greetings Ya'll,

This is my 1st post, & since I'm trying to be a "sponge" on how Windows 7 operates, I imagine that I'll have many more.

I've been using Microsoft Word Starter 2010, up until it started freezing my PC. I actually had to hit Control/ Alt/ Delete in an attempt to get out of Word, & free up my PC. That took me to a screen that showed me that OFFSPON.EXE was not responding.

I ran a web search for this & found that it was somehow tied into the "Ads" that are supposed to come up on Word Starter 2010.

The document that I was putting together is frozen, anytime I click on to Word, & I have to repeat the process of Control/Alt/ Delete all over again.

My question is, ..., What is a recommended "Free" alternative for Word Starter 2010?

I do not want to store my data online, or on a "cloud", but on my PC.

I've also been reviewing several sites that offer Free software, & there seems to be good results with "Libre", & "Open Office", but, I'm also seeking more input on these two, or possibly any other alternative.

Any thoughts?

A:Free Alternative to Microsoft Word Starter 2010

Either of the 2 you mentioned LibreOffice or OpenOffice are good alternatives and are mostly Word compatible. Another very good one that I have used is called WPS Office.

Hi: Try reinstalling it. I have zipped up and attached the install file below. You have to be connected to the internet in order to run the file. Download, unzip and double click to run the file. It will contact the Microsoft Office 2010 Starter download site, and download and install Office Starter 2010. I don't know if you have to uninstall your current version or not. Try it without uninstalling it and if it doesn't work then I guess you can uninstall it and redownload the program.

Hi
Long story as short as possible.
Just upgraded to full version Windows 10. In the previous 2 tech builds IE stopped working. Error
“ This page cannot be displayed “
Microsoft x 3 Techs 5 hours of remote assistance could not resolve the issue. I had no terminate the connection as was taking too long. Their final suggestion was that they feel there must be some (add-ons) preventing IE from starting.

I cannot cover all they did here over 5 hours
However, here are some key areas of trouble shooting done

Remediation
Reset Winsock and Network Settings
Reset Proxy Settings
Created another admin account (IE did not run with different user)
Removed Kaspersky Security
Internet options > advanced > restore default > Reset IE settings
All IE add-ons have been disabled within IE settings
Msconfig > turned off all services

Has anyone else had an issue like this? I’ve just created and attached a diagnostics scan as this is beyond me level.
Thanks all

A:IE not working. Microsoft Tech 5 Hours remote support did not fix

After the Recovery, I lost my Microsoft Office Starter for word, anyone know where I could download one? Thank-you

A:Where to download microsoft Office Starter

Hello ZenUser,

I understand you looking to download Microsoft Office starter.

If you did a recovery with the built in recovery partition or recovery disk created from the system or purchased from HP. You should be able to go to start, all programs, scroll down to Microsoft Office 2010 click it, and then a box should come up and give you 3 options. Click on Use office starter 2010 which should be the 3rd option. From there just follow the prompts.

Again this will all depend on how you did the recovery.

Let me know if this helps you.

Thanks

Am able to use it fine now with no more warning but am I safe after giving the remote access? Here are some tips for those who are playing around with MS Office Starter.

Microsoft Office Starter 2010 Tips and Tricks 6: Excel Starter, Beyond Basics

In this week’s Tips and Tricks article we are going to focus on three features in Excel Starter that allow for quite a bit of utility. When thinking about using Excel Starter to create a family budget, for instance, these features should help you go beyond the basics. Let’s get started.
Define Name

Define Name is a feature to name a cell or a series of cells to later be used in a formula. Not only does this allow you to reference a series of cells easily, it helps define them to make it easier to remember, understand, and reuse them.
Start by opening Excel Starter 2010. In our example we have created a list of Expenses. Select this table, then go to the Formulas tab and click Define Name.

Then type a name into the Name textbox that defines the list and click OK.
.
Once you have done this you can use the Define Name in other formulas like this SUM formula.

Conditional Formatting

Conditional Formatting allows you to set Excel Starter to format particular cells based on the data that is present. There are a number of rules you can set. We’re going to start with an example table of the NFL standings.

Don't worry about the title - please verify your location -- it goes through to the correct page. !!!!!

Looks like most of the support for Office 2010 will end in 2015 -- Ms is obviously pushing everybody towards The Cloud and subscription Office 365.
