Hardware install and uninstall log

Q: Hardware install and uninstall log

My computer was stored at a person's house for 3 weeks. I am 99% sure my 400 gig hard drive was attached internal. I got everything out of the house but there is no 400 gig drive anyway.

How can I tell a history of the hard drive installed and uninstalled.

Thank you

I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.
Any suggestions for how to get this program removed?

A:Program wont uninstall it with Uninstall or Install Cleanup Utility

Is this a windows XP program or one for vista. It looks like a compatibility problem. Check with vendor to see if they have a version for vista. Some older programs will not work with vista and never will. There is an option to run in capatibility mode with vista but does not always work.

I installed Arduino software, part of which included installing a number of drivers. I uninstalled the software using the internal software uninstall feature. Apparently it removed the drivers, but for some reason they still show up in the Windows install/uninstall list. I try to uninstall them using the Windows uninstaller, but I get an error stating that the drivers are not there (at that address). The problem is, I cannot re-install the drivers, because for some reason they still show as being installed by the Windows installer and the software refuses to re-install.

So, how do I remove a file name from the install/uninstall list on Windows 10? A file name for a file that is already deleted?

A:Cannot Uninstall Drivers from Install/Uninstall List - Windows 10

Hi, Geek uninstaller (free) offers a range of removal options if you right click an entry.

However, you may have parts of the program left over.

1. Does the program's site offer a manual uninstaller or uninstall instruction?
2. Check the various folders that may have been created when you installed it for leftovers.
(Try Locate32 (free) - let it index all your files then you can quickly check for anything related to the name of your program on a find-as -you-type basis).
If you find any exe's left over, then use
Revo (free)
to force uninstall these.

Your problem will be knowing if anything is left over that you don't want.

Finally you can search the registry.
Try Regscanner (free) as this lists all found unlike Regedit which is 1 by 1.

Create a system restore point or back up your registry and delete remnants.

Good luck!

uninstall bing and malicious hardware from my MAC. I have installed what I thought would be adobe flash player for MAC but found myself with a possible virus or a software that makes bing my default webpage and all kinds of junk. Help!!!!Silvia

A:uninstall bing and malicious hardware from my MAC

This may help a little: this appears to offer a solution to specific to Bing - scroll down a little in the responses... this offers more thoughts... this one covers most of the browsers likely to affected (plagued) by bing.. whenever installing "anything" off the web - utilities especially - avoid the automatic installation offer. Opt "always" for the custom mode. Then carefully note and uncheck "any" boxes already helpfully checked for you... Invariably going the automatic path means you acquire no end of unwanted stuff much of it a real pain/pest; Bing being a classic one...message edited by trvlr

Today I had decided to uninstall my current AMD Catalyst driver, which was the 14.4 Release Candidate driver, and I looked up a guide on how to do it. I found a result for using the AMD Uninstall Utility to remove the graphics driver, and although that seemed to have worked fine, it also uninstalled every single driver I had, most importantly all USB drivers. Guess what that means? I can't use my mouse or keyboard (or any USB device for that matter)! So, for the last 3 hours or so, I've been switching USB ports, I've been rebooting my PC, trying to access HP's stock Recovery or BIOS, but mashing F8, F10, Escape, Delete or any other possible key on startup didn't help at all. So, now I'm stuck here writing about this because a few Google searches or asking a few friends didn't work (in fact one friend even referred me to this forum). Also, I typed this all from my tablet which has a detachable keyboard, in case you thought "how the hell is he doing this without a keyboard?".

Incase you wanted to know anything spec wise, you could check here:$pcmcat212600050008&cp=1&lp=2

I haven't modified the hardware at all, so this should be good enough (sorry I can't recall specs :|).

A:I just happened to uninstall every single hardware driver.

Did you try F11(System Recovery)?

Dumb question, I know!
Wouldn't happen to be a touch screen?

ok this is a weird thing for me, never had to deal with this and dont know what to do.
The problem: I had a video capture card/ tv tuner installed in my pc. At the time i had windows xp pro sp2.
I formatted my pc and installed windows xp Media center edition.
when i tried to install my capture card it wouldnt work.
It read the plug n play, it installed the drivers but when i went to any program to capture video, it wouldnt read it.

So i thought my card had fried, as i did fine a small burn mark on the silver strip on the back of the card.
No problem, i ordered a brand new one.
Only to find im having the same issue, Its installed but when i go to windows movie maker, it says the hardware is in use already when it is not.
WinDVR that came with my card just shows TV fuzz.

the problem i think it is, Is that theres another card supposedly installed on the PC that isnt there.
in widows movie maker when i choose to capture video im givin the option between two cards.

Card 1: PCI TV TUNER PCI 2309 (This is my new card that i just installed)

card 2: BT878 VfW to WDM Mapper

now when choosing card one, It doesnt give any options in the drop down box for video source. and it says the hardware is in use after i click next a couple times.

When i click card 2 i get an instand error just by clicking it.

I have a compaq 5340 and it came with a "system save" partition on C:. When I installed windows XP I chose a new install and It installed XP on the system save partition and now it gives me the choice to dual boot. This is not what I wanted because I think "system save" is kind of important to my machine and I now want to uninstall XP. There's one problem however, and it's that under add/remove programs there is no "Uninstall Windows XP" like there should be. Is there any way that I can uninstall XP, or possibly delete all the files related XP in that certain partition without losing my licence to XP?

That looks sort-of like an uninstall message t'me. And whether I click yes or no, the embryonic game files in their Ubisoft folder all dissapear. I'd be grateful for any help in remedying this!

Did you install XIII in its own new folder? Or in a folder containing other games?

If it installs in a new folder of its own name, it should complete the installation, unless, like many Windows programs it requires you to shutdown all Windows applications - if it does, then shut them down before you install.

The catch22 with running other Windows applications is that there might be a conflict with what the new program is trying to install in terms of libraries - i.e. dll files which are loaded in memory and in use.

When I boot the device driver for the ethernet won't install properly. I have tried to update the driver and get error codes. I uninstalled it, found the latest version on the Atheros webpage and reinstalled. Still it won't work.

The problem started when I uninstalled Trend Micro's security, which by the way, won't uninstall. I had a windows teck work on my computer online and he tried several times to uninstall TM and went into the registry to remove files.

After that my Atheros driver doesn't work. When I open Windows Media Player it tries to connect to the net and can't sending an error window which stops the media player. I can't write CD's without skips and drags because of this issue otherwise I wouldn't care about the ethernet drivers.

Any solutions that will work? I'm a novice plus not expert.

A:Atheros ethernet driver won't install even after uninstall/install

You should use the Trend Micro Uninstaller : Uninstalling Trend Micro program using the Diagnostic Toolkit

After you run that, try to install the driver again. If no go, then run a sfc/scannow to check for and possibly repair any system files either you or the Tech may have messed up. Here's a link to a tutorial on how to do that if you haven't before, just click on the link : SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I have a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and it can not install or uninstall programs in any normal way. When you try to do so, it comes up with this error "The System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." Now, I have googled it and most posts refer me to use the Local Security Policy editor/snap-in which is NOT available in Windows 7 Home Prem. So, most say you have to edit the registry to enable this support, but I have not ran across a reg edit that will help me with this specific issue. My account is an administrative account and I have even gone as far as creating a new account with admin privledges and still get the same error. I even got that error in the middle of creating the new account, too. So, is there anyone out there who might know what registry entry I need to add/modify to get passed this issue? I will add that you CAN install programs so long as you right click the installer and run it as administrator. Thanks for your time.

A:Can't Install/Uninstall programs - policies to prevent Install

Welcome to the Seven Forums, peauxrouge.

If you are unable to install/uninstall any programs then it means that your computer is as it was when you purchased it. Are you the Administrator or not?

Try and log-in as the Administrator and then run gpedit.msc to change the Group Policy to allow installation/unistallation of programs. I am certain that one can run gpedit.msc from W 7 Pro upwards but I am not sure if it is possible in W 7 Home Premium.

If not then either ask the vendor about how to change the Group Policy or just clean install W 7 Home Premium from scratch once again.

Hello all-

My friend has an old laptop laying around that was broken so I told him hey what the heck bring it over and I'll fool around with it. He brings it over and I get my good old external HD that I use YUMI to install windows with. This thing is going nuts beeps & boops the whole time; I figured out the built in keyboard is fried due to liquid damage at some point I yank it out, I connect my dell wired keyboard that I use for all my "projects" and start again. I wipe the laptops HD and start my install. It completes the install portion that is booted from my external then restarts into in windows to finish the install on its own HD. Makes it all the way to the end where the screen flickers like its adjust the resolution. Moments after that "Windows could not be installed on this computers hardware- please restart"

I check everywhere online and I find a tutorial on this site that explains how to enter device manager in safe mode while installing win 7 (which I didn't bookmark like a fool!) I find that it has a LIST of drivers not recognized (graphic card is one). I down loaded the drivers from Acers website but while restarting the Win 7 install I click i the load with drivers button and it says they aren't in driver format.

Hi, I "upgraded" my old Compaq PII 300 machine to XP Home, it worked OK for awhile but now it's gotten so slow it's almost unusable, there isn't any spyware or virus on the machine so I think I want to reinstall the original 95 restore disk and then I have a 98 upgrade disk to install 98SE on it. Or another option is to use a Win 2000 Pro disk I have. What do you think is the best option? I've read you can't use F/disk on XP and if you use the XP disk to format it just reinstalls XP again.

Hi all,

First timer here. I have a weird issue. I've attended the MS event The New Efficiency a while ago and was given a free copy of 32-bit windows 7 disc. I read on the forums that the same disc and key can also be used on a 64-bit machine. The same day after attending the event, I installed windows 7 on my 32-bit Thinkpad and activated it. I played with it for a few days and I didn't really like it (I've been using XP for a long time). So I formatted my Thinkpad and re-installed XP Pro.

Last week, I built a new 64-bit desktop PC (core i7 and all) and since I already have the windows 7 key but only 32-bit media, I downloaded a 64 bit version from *cough* you-no-where *cough* (I verified the checksums and all) and used the 32-bit key. It accepted it but it is not able to activate it. It says it cannot use this key, please try a different one blah blah. There was an error code (can't remember now) something like C004C008 which I looked it up and found that the error code occurs when the key reaches the maximum allowed activations which is usually 15. But I've used it only once on my thinkpad and I did not give the disc to anybody. There was an option to call automated phone support to get activated which I did but even that got rejected. I think activating windows 7 on my thinkpad previously is preventing me from installing it again on new machine.

What are my options? How do I activate my windows 7 copy on my new desktop?

Welcome to 7 Forum!
When you installed the 32 bit version to your laptop did you activate it with MS?
If you did the you will need to contact MS to get authorization on a different system.

Well, I suspected that my computer was infected then asked a friend for help, he sent me a link with a step by step to run a lot of tools and make sure the computer was safe.
I followed the instructions and used the following tools:-
RogueKiller -
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
HitmanPro -
But after all the procedure, I got some problems with my pc.
Like I said, I'm not being able to install and uninstall anything, also I can't run anything as administrator nor run .reg files. In all these cases, I got a message saying ""The specified service does not exist as an installed service."
I suppose that the problem was a .reg file I used do enable the "UAC" at the end of all the procedure. Even though my UAC was already disabled before everything, I thought it was a good idea to enable just in case...
Also I couldn't get a DDS log because when I try to run the DDS I got the same message: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service."
Does anyone knows what can I do to fix it?
Thanks in advance.
PS: I have attached all the logs from the tools I used. (Except from MGlogs and TDSSKiller that was too big to upload, but they're all attached here:

Hello macedo -
From your basic post you do have "Compromised or Infected files" on this computer -
From Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Report =>
PWCrack-SnadBoy => NOTE SnadBoy is a hack tool for the Windows platform.
Across all ThreatExpert reports, the file "revelationhelper.dll" has always been identified as a threat.
What you have is called a PUP or Potentially Unwanted Program (usually a Rogue application)
Also - PUP.Optional.Softonic.A \ SOFTONIC\Universal Downloader (Tracking Downloader)
From Hitman Pro report =>
Program is altered or corrupted since it was code signed by its author. This is typical for malware and pirated software.
The file is located in a folder that contains core operating system files from Windows. This is not typical for most programs and is only common to system tools, drivers and hacking utilities.
Please follow these directions and repost to our Experts for the best help.
Please follow the instructions in this Preparation Guide starting at Step #6

I was running some software and then stupidly tried to update the software. The update didn't work and now the software wont run either.
I get a Licensing Error message:
" Unable to initialize adlm: Internal Error Message: <Error initializing the Usage tracking component.> Error Code: <-104> "

I tried to "system restore to an earlier version" hoping all new system registry changes will revert back to when the software ran perfectly, and that didn't work. So I thought I could just uninstall this software completely using the uninstall/remove utility, then I deleted every file and folder I could find. But when I try to reinstall it tells me that the software is already installed, and so it wont install. Surely I don't have to reinstall my OS to solve this problem !?

Could anyone help me with this, is there a way that the original installation put a file deep in the far recesses of my system that wasn't removed ?

I am running on win7 64bit.

I just replaced my motherboard, I went from a 945GPM to a 945GCNL. I also changed Processors, P4 3Ghz to a Pent D 925 Ghz. I had the new chip in the old board and it worked fine. When I boot up the new board and try to install all the Drivers from the CD, I keep getting this error: Intel® Express Installer < The application failed to initialize] successfully-(E0441203). I also can't get a task bar/start button to appear which I had on the primary boot. I can access the web via Firefox and Netscape, IE won't load, neither will Windows Media Player. I went to the Intel site and downloaded the drivers from there and still no luck. I can't even uninstall anything, checked the Bios and my audio is enabled but I have no sound. Is there a way I can access the Control Panel without a START button? I just know don't what else to do, Can somebody Please Help Me?

To put it simply, my entertainment category under accessories in the start menu has uninstalled itself. Will installing Windows XP again help fix this? I honestly don't know what caused this affliction and it's making me a little angry. . . considering I don't know why it happened.

My computer is a Dell Dimension E510. It's not very old; it's been around since late January, so about half a year. It works very well and I have lots of RAM. So is there anyway to install it again besides the Windows XP CD? Also, Macromedia and Quicktime isn't working. Everytime I try to install Macromedia Flash Player, it's like nothing ever happened. Same with Quicktime; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Does anyone know what the heck is going on?

Hi folks,

We have a problem with my husband's computer.

Computer: Dell Laptop, about 1-1/2 yrs old (no more info than that, sorry)
OS: Win XP Pro

The problem: The computer hangs every time we try to install or uninstall any software. Sometimes we can end task on the install or uninstall attempt; other times, we have to reboot to get out of it.

Also, if he goes into the Event Viewer, when he clicks on "Application" or "System", he gets this error message: "Unable to complete operation on 'Application' [or 'System', if he clicked on 'System']. Access is denied." This is despite the fact that he is logged on with an administrative account.

Another symptom is that when he logs on, he gets the graphic which he chose for the background on his monitor, and the Taskbar, but no icons for at least 30 seconds.

We've scanned for viruses, trojans, spyware, adware, etc. -- nothing (and the computer is protected by both software and also being behind a firewall).

A:Install & Uninstall Problems

Hi and welcome,
I would do a post in the HJT forum. What you are describing sounds malware related. If you are infected it would prevent your antivirus from reporting correctly. If you come out clean from that we can check some other things.

hi, i have been faced with many problems with regards to my computer for a very long time. I can't uninstall most of my programs; some said that it lacks the log file while others say it cant be modified. I cannot use Microsoft Office too. When I open Microsoft it will pop up a window that says "preparing to install" and eventually the file cannot be opened.

I did a Registry scan using the RegistryBooster and the result shows that there are many errors with my computer. I had searched for registry and the key uninstallString to try to force uninstall a program, but i dont know wad to do eventually to uninstall the programs.

I also tried installing the Windows Installer Clean Up. However, whenever i try to open the program, the "preparing to install" window pops up too. I waited for it to finish loading and after which nothing happens.

i wanted to use iTunes recently for my iPhone so i need help urgently.

Do inform me of any info i need to submit about my system. However I need guides on how to do so. Thanks alot for the help.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, and system is about one month old. Bought the Ultimate because it's supposed to allow you to install older programs. Today, I tried to install my Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced (retail disc). It went so far and threw up an error. Tried reinstalling to no avail. Now it won't even let me uninstall it (it starts to uninstall then throws an error). It appears to have all the folders on my C drive now but it does not start. Should I try reinstalling or uninstalling in Safe Mode? Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. I do not want to use the newer versions. In fact, I'd rather use v6 if possible as never had a seconds problem with it.

A:can't install/uninstall Nero 7

No help to your situation but I have Nero 7 Premium running quite OK in Win7 32bit.

Because it is/was on the list of programs likely to fail under Win7 via the M$ compatibility list I did 'Install' and 'run' as Administrator.

Do you have 'full' administrative privileges with the logon you are using to install it?

I have heard of problems when trying to install some programs without full Admin privileges. This is because you don't have full write access to 'Program Files' and some of the installation files go to the 'Virtual Store' within your user logon data area which causes problems.

A:Uninstall IE 10 and Install IE 8 on windows 8

Hello Lirus, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I'm pretty sure that any version other than IE10 and above will only be able to be used with Windows 8.

What application are you having a problem with IE10? Is there a newer version of it available that may work better with IE10?

Depending on what the application is, you might see if installing and/or running it using compatibility mode for the Windows it supports may help.

However, if you have an issue with a site in IE10, you might see if using compatibility view in IE10 for the site may help.

Hope this helps,

Just bought a pre-owned laptop with Win7, and upgraded it to 10. Now having a problem launching a program because of a Realtek issue. Can I just get rid of Realtek and install an AMD driver like my other Win10 laptop has (and works just fine)?

A:Uninstall Realtek and install AMD?

I'm unaware of any AMD audio devices that are comparable to a Realtek sound chip. At a guess, the AMD sound drivers are only for an HDMI output, assuming that your laptop has one.

If you're prepared to lose the onboard sound and only get it from external devices (like a TV), then go for it.

Any corrections will be humbly accepted.

My mom has never been good with computers, and now she has a virus somehow, probably because she clicks on advertisments like "Your computer clock may be wrong, click here to correct!".

Now I need to reformat her computer, because I've done everything I can to fix it but none of our scans find anything. The only problem is putting in the Windows CD, because the drive broke a while ago. We put in a CD wrong and it shattered.

My plan is to take a CD drive from another computer in the house, put it into the infected computer, reformat, and then put the CD drive back in its original computer.

EDIT: Our problem is that the computer keeps crashing when she does certain things, like open AOL, or get to th end of a virus scan.

None of our scans get complete, they all fail near the end and the computer restarts.

Recently I did a (bad) manual uninstall of the game Guitar Hero 3 on the pc by following a quite guide. It involved deleting an entry in the registry that was contained in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.

This now has made the game disappear from the Add/Remove Programs window and so I cannot remove the game from windows memory by that.

When I try to reinstall the game from the CD, I get the Windows Installer package come up and give me the option to Repair or Remove the applicatio. Neither work as I get the message "The wizard was interrupted before Guitar Hero III could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again."
That then re adds some entries to my registry, relating to Missing Shared DLL's. I've ran Error Nuker and it detects these entries that point to missing files and deletes them. However when I try reinstalling again with the CD, it does the whole "repair or remove" options, and if I do either, adds those registry entries again.
Any Ideas? I got no response on another forum, so I thought to try this one.

First, I've had login popup problems, but resolved finally thanks to the Hound. But my present concern is because I can't uninstall certain things I need to uninstall. What happens is, when I click that button, the process begins and seemingly goes through the motions, but when it completes it still remains installed.

I tried to uninstall another unneeded service, and I got a popup headed by the name of Ghost installer. So somewhere in my system is a glitch of some sort that is blocking me from uninstalling. Obviously need much appreciated help. Thanks cliffb

I recently tried to upgrade my version of itunes+quicktime only to get an error msg stating an older version could not be removed and the installation of quicktime would be aborted. I tried to manually uninstall from add/remove in control panel but got an error msg stating it could not find quicktime.msi. I did a seach for that file and found 2 instances of it and tried pointing the uninstall to them with the same outcome. I then tried to do a seperate install of quicktime and used a much earlier version hoping I could upgrade from there and "trick" the computer into it, but it "tricked" me by putting the older version somewhere where I can't find it and not doing what I want besides. Sometimes using windows alone to uninstall things just doesn't work right. Some things require a little more "persuasion" to leave the system, here's what i normally use:

Since upgrading to Windows 10 I can not install or uninstall anything on my laptop. I first noticed it when I tried removing Office 2007, as I now have a license of Office 365, but it kept freezing during uninstall. I overlooked it as a software error that I couldn't be bothered dealing with.I then realised Plex Media Server wasn't functioning correctly, as I no longer seemed able to stream to my Panasonic smart TV. I noticed it required an upgrade on my laptop, so tried downloading the update. It downloaded fine, but during installation it kicked up an error.I also tried the recent iTunes update - same problem, it downloaded fine, but during installation kicked up an error. Then the same thing happened when trying to update AVG anti virus. Downloaded fine, then kicked up an error during installation. I think this time it said something about another installation being in progress, but I can assure you there was not after many restarts,This has happened as soon as I upgraded to Windows 10, from Windows 7. Please help!

Many times when I uninstall a program using the Uninstall Wizard in WME, I get the message "some files where not able to be uninstalled. These must be uninstalled manually." BUT, IT doen't tell me WHAT files and praytell there is no way for me to have any knowledge as to what/where these files are (aside from the fact that they must be in the bowls of my computer somewhere). How do I figure out how to look for these files relative to what ever program I have uninstalled.

A:install/uninstall question

Look in your program files and see if theres still a folder with the software you installed, some may be left in there.. C:\Program Files

I've tried searching the forums b/c I know I can't be the only one with these issues...but every topic seemed to have slightly different issues! Please let me know if this has already been addressed.
I never had this problem with my old laptop (Windows XP) but since using Windows 7 now, I've noticed that I try to download some programs, and I guess they never install properly? The icon will be on my desktop and I doubleclick and nothing happens. Or I doubleclick and it says "preparing to install" and nothing ever happens. Or, here recently, I dowloaded Skype, used it once fine, and tried to use it again yesterday and sure enough, I click the desktop icon and a box pops up saying "preparing to install" and nothing ever happens. Sooo I figured I'd try and uninstall and re-install, which leads to my other issue...
I tried to uninstall Skype (and other programs) and it says "system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation" then "you do not have sufficient access to uninstall, please contact system administrator". Well I am the only user account and am the administrator. I even tried changing the "owner" to my user/administrator account for Skype and all subfolders and still have this problem.
I don't know if my install and uninstall issues are related...I know it's annoying though to download a program and can't use it, can't uninstall it.

A:Xp Install/uninstall Problem

Have you checked the status of the Windows installer service in system services? Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services. Scroll down to Windows Installer & check the startup type. The default setting is "Manual". If the startup type setting is "Disabled", highlight this service, right-click & select "Properties". Use the drop down box to change the setting to "Manual", Apply and reboot. The web site is an excellent resource for system services. It is probably a good idea to check the startup type on the other services as well. You should check your event viewer for error messages as well (located in same area as Services). I recommend a periodic review of your Event Viewer logs - pin a shortcut to your start menu as a reminder.

I use Add/Remove Pro (freeware) as an alternative to the Windows version. It is available for download at - freeware. Of course, installation of this program will not be possible if the Windows Installer service does not function. In that case, download Nirsoft's utility MyUninstaller. This ia a stand-alone utility that does not require installation. This utility provides greater detail on installed software than the info contained in the Windows version. As stated above, try uninstalling some minor program.

This is my very first post, I looked through all the other posts and could not find one similar. So I do hope I am doing this the right way...

I have a Dell Laptop = Insperion 1721

I wasnt sure I even had a problem at first but now realize that I have a huge problem. I first noticed when trying to install the new version of Itunes, I got an error message stating that I could not install the new version. Didnt pay much attention to it went on with what I was doing online. Next time I opened my laptop a few programs wanted updating (Adobe, Java, HP) tried to install them all and none would work.
I thought the fix might be to uninstall them as maybe the files had become corrupt, but I could not install anything. Everytime I try I seem to get a new error message with a different set of words and numbers.

I spoke with the IT guy at work who recommended that I use the fix : Remove Internet Security 2010 (Uninstall Guide)
Which I have done twice today and nothing comes up infected. It let me install the Rkill program so I am guessing it is just programs already on the computer.

Thanks very much for any help..

I have a stand-alone WinXP Home Edition 5.1.2600 SP3 Build 2600 and Windows Installer 4.5.6001.22159. When I do anything requiring an install or uninstall it downloads and starts to install, but then I get message: "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer Package." I've tried several things, such as procedures in Microsoft Article ID: 555175, with no luck.
I can't even install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, update Adobe Reader, remove an old Java, etc. Have no idea what I might have done to cause this. I do run McAfee, CCleaner, Registry Booster 2, AdAware, XP RepairPro, Winferno Registry Power Cleaner, Wise Disk & Registry Cleaners, but never had the problem in the past.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks. Ron

So, I've had VHScrCap installed for a while, and until recently, it worked beautifully. However, it suddenly stopped working and every time I would go to broadcast my desktop, all I would get is a black screen. So, I decided to reinstall. I uninstalled the program through the Control Panel (Windows Vista), and re-downloaded the installation file for VHScrCap. However, when I try to install it, it tells me that the program is already installed.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I used Add/Remove Programs to uninstall AOL. Apparently, the uninstallation process also wiped out Excel as I can no longer access it. Some other funny things happened like Microsoft Image Writer was set as my default printer, when before I had Adobe and also had actual printers installed. When I tried reinstalling Excel off of my Office CD, the installation process began but was stopped midway when the following message popped up with the title of "Problem with Shortcut": "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it." There is an OK button at bottom. Some research seems to point to some problem with the msiexec.exe file.

I purchased an OEM copy of XP Pro and would like to remove Win7RC and install XP Pro. What would be the least complicated way of doing this? I built the computer and originally had Ubuntu installed on it until I decided to tryWin7RC. Everything works flawlessly so far with Windows 7RC but I don't plan on buying a copy of the final release.

I've been told it is easy to upgrade, go from a older OS to a newer OS., but downgrading is a different beast. I have one bright idea . Installing Ubuntu to delete the Win 7RC OS,then installing XP to delete Ubuntu.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:How to uninstall Windows7RC & install XP pro

Why not just load the XP disk into the drive, restart, boot from CD/DVD, then format the drive where you want to install XP. No evidence of having another operating system once you format it. I have done it several times going from Vista to Win 7 Beta, to Vista again, then onto Win 7 RC. Though I have never upgraded an operating system, just installed over and over again, its easy. Just hate waiting for the updates to complete.

Good luck

I am new too this and appreciate any help that someone can give me.

I lost something and I installed a program to help me find it on my computer. I cannot remember the name of the program and when I installed it...sometime ago.

Well now I have all kinds of things on my pictures of cogs, pictures of frames, pictures of colors and lines etc. etc. It appears that when I used the program to find something it went all the way back to what looks like things that were put on the Window 7 when it was first put into the computer. The other day when I was using something on the computer it indicated that I had 80,000 items, the majority of which are the pictures of cogs etc. that I have indicated above.

Someone told me that I should delete these items. Some of the items I can delete. Some of them have to be deleted by the adminstrator, and some have to be deleted what appears to be a computer specialist. I deleted some things but decided to stop since I really don't know what I should or should not delete.

As you can see this is a real mess that I have gotten into. I hope someone can help me. Thank you. P.S. I did not find what I was looking for.

I just installed Win7 on a computer I built. This computer never had any OS prior. I installed the Beta 7100 version of windows 7 only to discover that a lot of the hardware drivers are not compatible with win7.
I decided to buy a new copy of Win XP Pro SP3 and install This instead. The problem is when I run the setup for XP it does not detect my hard drive and says that it can't locate a hard drive therefore I cannot install Win XP or format the hard drive in question. All I have is press press F3 to quit intallation and restart your computer. I have tried everything to get the hard drive formated but I am unable to uninstall Win 7 .

A:Unable to uninstall Win 7 & Install XP SP3

Welcome (I guess I've been here long enough to be friendly that way

My first attempt would be to boot up the Win7 DVD, and us that to completely delete all the partitions on the drive.

Then, re-boot the machine with the WinXP CD. That should, in the course of the install, find the drive and pretty much force you to create a partition into which WinXP can be installed.

As for the driver issue - a lot of Win Vista drivers work. But, I find it strange that Build 7100 didn't have all the drivers you need. It did for me, after I updated the MBO firmware and my board was, literally, only days old when I did my first Win7 install.

Edit: Have you attempted to do a Windows Update? I've downloaded three or four updated drivers for my machine that way ---- and they worked

I have encountered a serious problem in that I cannot install or uninstall any programs onto my computer. For this particular instance I'll refer to my Bearshare program.

I am running Windows XP Home edition SP2 and I've tried a system restore back to when everything was working properly. Unfortunately I get multiple errors when trying to perform different applications. These include; when attempting to uninstall Bearshare, a box pops up unable to find INSTALL.LOG; when trying to reinstall the program, I get an error saying "Could not initialize installation. C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER~1.COY\LOCALS~1\Temp\GLC6.tmp the process cannot acces the file because it is being used by another process." I have tried to delete my temp files and they all say that they're write-protected or being used by another program.

I have rebooted, done system restores and rebooted numerous times. When trying to open Bearshare after a system restore it says that some files are corrupted and cannot open the program. I can't uninstall, reinstall or open the program. This problem actually persists through most of my programs on my computer and programs that I've tried to install since. Please help me so that my computer doesn't suffer. I'd hate to have to pull the plug.

hi guys

is it true?so if it happens , how can i clean my registry?

A:install and uninstall is harmful?

I don't like to install/uninstall programs very much because of the possibility you mention. But, here's something proactive you can do. Make a restore point both before and after you install something new. If you don't like it, then use system restore to remove it. If later you have problems, but not with the program you installed, then you can restore back to the point right before you installed it. Of course older restore point eventually will be removed so you need to create restore points periodically at points where your system is functioning properly. See my sig; there are other ways of making sure you can go back to points in time where your system is working properly including what's in my sig and programs like Acronis True Image, Paragon, etc.

I don't like registry cleaners. IMO, they can do more harm than installing/uninstalling a few programs.

After getting rid of newdotnet6_38.dll my computer pritty much was in a really bad state. I had to reinstall some stuff and reorganize some other stuff. When I got to Civ 4 it did not let me reinstall saying that there was an updated version already installed that it had to be uninstall first. When I tried to uninstall it woud not let me. So I called costumer service and after tring a couple of stuff we whent into the directory to delete it, but it was not there.

A:Cannot install or uninstall Civ 4 main

So whats going on is simple, the folder has been deleted for some reason, but the registry is still there.
Use Windows Clean up Utility to bring up your "Program Files" Registry entrys
Find the Civ 4 and delete it, then you will be able to re-install.

CAUTION: I highly recommend you delete the utility after you use it because if you 'accidently' delete something vital you can hose your system. But its easy to use and Add/Remove programs will uninstall if fine once you're done with it. PM me if this does the trick alright?
