Q: Kaspersky & BitDefender free today. Info from users of those programs wanted.

This may only be for the US. A link that can take you to the offers is at http://forum.raymond.cc/threads/kasp...8/#post-294755
There are a good number of other free offers, including ESET Smart security, AVG Internet Security, and Nero. They involve rebates.

I want to know from Kaspersky and BitDefender users :

1. How are these programs on false positives and over-aggressiveness with detection of so-called Potentially Unwanted Programs or Applications (PUPs and PUAs)? For me, avast! and Webroot have gone after way too many legitimate programs on my computer.

2. Do these programs allow user discretion before eliminating programs? I don't want them wiping good programs off my computer without allowing me the opportunity to whitelist them instead.

3. Do they tell you what they are doing or have done? One time I used the malware function of Glary Utilities. It got rid of something, but it never told me what it was. I have never again used the malware function on Glary Utilities.

Hey Guys,

If you are using Kaspersky on Windows XP, and your Blue Shift is not working, I may have a solution for you. If you go into Kapersky, go to My Security Zone and then application activity. Go to Category and then click all. Scroll down until you find everything to do with Blue Shift ( Half Life Launcher, installation etc). Right click on each of these and change the status to Trusted. The game should work now. I hope this helps I've had the problem for a while and it was driving me nuts. I'd also like to thank the user "fragger" for giving me the idea to look at Kaspersky. If your reading this, hope it helps you out buddy.

Now the last thing that I want to see first thing during a computer session is some celebrity's face or butt being displayed and masquerating as news. Can somebody help me with this situation? I have looked at AV softwares very thoroughly and boiled the choice down to these two. (I have AVG Cloud Care, free for a year with computer, and will uninstall it.) These two have good reviews following testing. No doubt personal preferences affect choice, but what do folks think about these?

I have Malwarebytes (paid) installed. I'm not on a network, just a lone wolf with a desktop, no WiFi or Cloud, no gaming, no naughty pics.

Thanks.

A:Kaspersky or Bitdefender?

Stev I have used Kaspersky for nearly six years on all my six machines and the only thing with it is I do use MBAM and SuperAntiSpyware to pick up the small fry - it is also cheap too mate.

The one thing it dos baulk at is using ADW Cleaner when one has to.

I currenty have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 on my computer and it is going to expire soon. I am trying to decide whether or not I should stick with Kaspersky or switch to Bitdefender. Kaspersky slowed down my computer alot and interfered with some programs. It didn't find and remove some malware that Malwarebytes had found. I was told that Bitdefender was a good program and it doesn't have the problems that Kaspersky has. I am wondering which one I should choose and what other people think of the programs. Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

A:Kaspersky or Bitdefender?

Well someone else will tell you that Norton 2010 is better or ESETs. So dont listen Test trial versions and see if rumors are true or not. If you uninstall properly, see programs site for uninstall tool, then no reason not to check them all out.

Personally I would not pay for any of them but that is also just something I say. Im also cheap when no real value is in sight btw. You mentioned Malwarebytes so does know one of the reasons. Dont think Bitdefender will remove need for Malwarebytes or protect more. Might be lighter or suit you better compared to Kaspersky though.

Was Kaspersky interfering or just doing its job? If you highly prefer silence may be test Nortons stuff. I believe they make a big deal out of not bothering user.

I am looking at Kaspersky or BitDefender and want opinions from those of you who use them:

I need a "user friendly" interface. I don't mean simplistic in the sense of limited ability to tweak, I mean easily navigable. I don't want to have to open six different boxes to figure out how to schedule scans, for example.

I want a supportive website with a searchable malware database with complete descriptions.

I will pay more for AV that does a better job of protecting.

I used to have Symantec Corporate Edition and liked it, but no longer have access to it. I am not happy with my current freeware (Avast).

Hello there,I'm not sure where the rumor of Kaspersky containing malware comes from, but it's nonexistent. As to answer your question...There is no universal "one size fits all" solution that works for everyone and there is no single best anti-virus. Every vendor's virus lab and program scanning engine is different. Each has has its own strengths and weaknesses and they often use a mix of technologies to detect and remove malware. In many cases choosing an anti-virus is a matter of personal preference and what works best on a particular system. You may need to experiment and find the one most suitable for your needs. Please read:Choosing an Anti-Virus ProgramHere are links to some recent BC discussion topics with opinions from other members:Looking for recommended anti-virus softwaresWhat is the best antivirus protection? What's the best premium security suite in the market currently?Recommend a good free antivirus programWhich antivirus and malware programs should I use together?Antivirus Solution? Here are links to polls about this very subject:Poll: Best Antivirus and FirewallPoll: Best Anti-Spyware/Anti-Malware/On-Demand ScannerMy personal choice is Emsisoft Anti-Malware as it is lightweight, features both AV & AM protection, has good protection and interface, excellent support. Hi, all!

With interest I have read the Emsisoft Blog article about free anti-virus vendors that bundle PUPs with them. Here, 7 out of 8 tested free antivirus suites bundle with PUPs. A bit further down the article, an important fact is stated, and I quote:

...Bitdefender Free is one of the only clean antivirus vendors that does not come with any PUPs.

I therefore would like to know: Which more free anti-virus suites than Bitdefender Free do not bundle PUPs?

Thank you very much in advance!

Regards,

A:Most free anti-virus suites now bundle PUPs except Bitdefender Free?

Well, Emsisoft Anti-Malware offers a 30 days trial of their program and doesn't bundle PUPs. Emsisoft doesn't bundle any PUPs at all in fact.

Hafif Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 vs Bitdefender Internet Security 2016?

Sistemi: Windows 10, 64 Bit, ?ntel.

A:Bitdefender vs Kaspersky (2016). System Impact?

It is not clear-cut answer.

Bitdefender adds less to system reboot. Kaspersky much longer reboot.

Bitdefender uses about 200 to 300 MB RAM.

Bitdefender requires more advanced IT knowledge to solve problems when it issues occur.

Kaspersky has much better protections - much. Bitdefender needs supplement like NVT ERP because it is weak against some malicious scripts.

Bitdefender is good for laptop; has low battery mode.

Kaspersky is good for desktop and probably the best IS suite for family.

If they absolutely don't know anything ("Hey, what's quarantine? What's scanning? What's definitions?") then Bitdefender without a doubt. If they know basic settings and to tell the difference between false positives than Avast!. I'll have to vote Bitdefender here, but Avast! is a much greater antivirus with those with basic security knowledge.

It will work with any combination of 2 (hard drive and cdrom or 2 harddrives or 2 CDroms) but if you add a third you get a "Windows Protection Error" coming up, it will come up in safe mode, I got the hard drive controller drivers from IBM's web site and the BIOS is up to date. (I also tried 3 harddrives or i and 2 cdroms still the same error) Now it sees the drives correctly in the BIOS and if it is the controller drivers I am using there are no others on the IBM site I can try (any one have some old floppies for this beast I can get a copy of or know the workaround

I can't find it's settings menu anywhere, when opened from the task bar all it gives is a small window in the bottom right corner, the "my bit defender" box on the page claims i need to register it (but this is the free edition??) and when clicked opens a small box window which just displays white saying "you need to have javascript enabled to view this page". whats more i find this page which suggest bit defender isn't an antivirus at all but rather it is a purely on demand thing like the free edition of malwarebytes, what is going on here? Please explain.Thank You.http://www.bitdefender.com/support/bitdefender-free-edition-549.htmlSee the section marked "important" at the bottom of the page.My machine windows 8.1, previously had AVG but I fully removed that before starting bitdefender's installation.Should i uninstall bitdefender and switch to avast instead?

A:Need some help bitdefender free vs avast free

Can you open the Bitdefender program/interface, then take a screenshot of it to post it here so we can see what you're seeing? Also, many free Antivirus products will ask you to registry in order to use them. So they are free, they just ask you to register yourself in order to be able to use them.

So, I'm choosing a free antivirus software to use on my daily driver (I'm a vary advanced user) and I'm trying to decide between Bitdefender free and avast free.
First, I've heard that Bitdefender is dead/unmaintained/buggy?
Also, I've heard avast is kind if shady, I've heard rumors that when you call tech support they pretend there are problems on your computer to get you to pay money, and that it downloads malware on the users pc (Just rumors I've heard, Not accusing them of anything).
So which do you think I should go with? Thanks

A:Avast Free or Bitdefender Free?

Hi Robo11 First, I've heard that Bitdefender is dead/unmaintained/buggy?It's false. Bitdefender is still actively developped and have quite a good share of the Antivirus market. About the buggy part, it's down to the user's experience. Personally, most of the experiences I had with Bitdefender were quite bad. It was buggy, hogging resources, hard to uninstall, etc. But for some, it might just be the "best Antivirus" they ever used. Also, I've heard avast is kind if shady, I've heard rumors that when you call tech support they pretend there are problems on your computer to get you to pay money, and that it downloads malware on the users pc (Just rumors I've heard, Not accusing them of anything). It's false as well. There's no reputable Antivirus company that would do such a thing. Also, avast! forums offers malware removal assistance in the same kind as BleepingComputer, and there's also UNITE members helping on its forums, so I really doubt that this would ever happen. If you're torn between these two products, since both of them are free, I would suggest you to give them both a try (one after the other, not at the same time) and see for yourself which one you like better. My personal choice goes to avast!, but that's just me. Hi,

I wonder if someone could tell me a bit about a UMAX S6E scanner,
i've been given one and it has an SCSI connector at the back.

It also has a fitting that looks like a parallel port fitting,
but its not marked, and i don't know if it would run from the parallel
port or not. I don't have any SCSI stuff or experience, so if it would
run from the parallel port, that would be my approach.

The previous owner had it running using the SCSI fitting, i think on
an Apple machine, its not a new scanner but i think it has pretty good
definition/resolution.

Can i run it from the parallel port ?

A:Bitdefender Free AV

I was using this.

Pros:
-It is very light and minimalist.
-Tiny interface,
-It has the lastest BD signatures.
-Behavioral detections
-MAlicious webpage blocking

Cons:
-Viewing the interface takes sometime.
-Scanning speed too slow
-No additional settings to configure it for yourself.
and I think it looks like an abondoned software..

I have been using AVG free and I really liked it. It did however steal focus a bit too often for me causing my games to minimize and getting me fragged. That really was a bummer.

I have downloaded and installed bitdefender free and was wanting some opinions from the security experts here. I don't see it recommended often, and did a search of the forums with not many results.

I see the paid version recommended, but not the free one.

A:BitDefender free, any good?

I had it on my PC as a backup. So it was not running all the time. It is a easy and simple one I like. But I did a upgrade to there newer version but it was only good for 30 days. Don't know why it happen like that because it says right at the top I had the free version.
Anyhow I did get it all uninstall and reinstalled like there tech said but had the same trouble still.
Then I unistalled it and went looking around and cleaned up other files and folders and cleaned up the registry.
I want to install it again but was waiting for the 30 days to pass before installing it again.

But I liked it and it was good till that newer version came out and I installed it and what ever bug in it was putting a time limit on the free version.

Hello Malwaretipsers!
Just heard about Bitdefender free antivirus and downloaded it.

I am very happy with the low system impact
but I miss an exclude feature, and a way to remove things from quarantine to be able to use it.

My question is:
If I use this purely as my only security product will that be enough?
OFC, windows firewall is still enabled.

I use google chrome with adblock+ and scriptno & ghostery.
sure, I might download stuff on utorrent, but will bitdefender free protect me?

Also, the most important thing for me is that it's secure enough to make my banking business on the computer.

Thanks for the help!
I was in a rush writing this, so It might miss a red thread, but hope you understand what I am asking

A:Bitdefender free good enough?

Yes Bitdefender Free is really a fine product, unless you may experience stability issues.

It came as a Cloud Based AV so you need an active internet connection; + you don't need to worry about as it has web filter too.

edit: I posted this question on the bitdefender forum. I saw that the latest build of free edition was announced with the hope that it would support windows 10. My immediate reaction is that in fact it does seem to behave properly.

A:bitdefender free edition

Interesting, devs said, that it will no longer be supported and no 10 support and now, they released a new version.

Thanks for the update, I loved BD, it is lightest AV ever, I used it on 10, until it stopped working.

Hey guy. I installed BD Free on a new install for a customer and everything seems to be running fine. It updated and is scanning , but when I tried to register it I got this message, " the connection to the server failed, the product can not be activated". I tried installing it on an old xp I had to see what turns up and got the same error message as the other computer. Any ideas on what is going on ? I went to the BD forum but that seems useless.

Guys,

Today is the big day when Microsoft said it would no longer allow the blocking of Windows XP SP-2 for XP users through runnnig Windows Update or enabling Automatic Update. My questions for everyone are:

1.) What has changed from this day foward with regards to Windows Update, especially for XP users?

2.) Can you still choose the option to do Custom Install for Windows Update?

3.) Is there ANY opt out for Service Pack 2, if you go to Windows Update?

Anyone who wishes to provide the new steps or things that the user may see when they go to Windows Update, please post in this thread.

Is there anything that we should do BEFORE we go to the Windows Update page? The issues for this thread are:

a. What is new?

b. What has stayed the same?

Users, please post any issues that you experienced when you went to do your Windows Updates. Mods or Admins, you might want to pin up this thread.

I tried KIS 2016 latest on Win 10 64.

Few queries -
1. I see alerts are Windows type alerts & not Kaspersky GUI type alerts, anyway to get KIS GUI type alerts?
2. I see it has ads/tracking, etc.., how good is it? Is it good enough to replace programs like ABP, uBlock Origin, etc...?

HTTPS scan -
I dont like HTTPS scanning. I see it is required for safe money, url advisor, etc...
I in a way liked the implementation of HTTPS scan in KIS...it is not used for all the websites.

HTTPS scan ---
I opened a bank website...checked the certificate & it was Kaspersky cert. KIS asked to open the website in protected browser & I did so. In the protected browser I checked the certificate & it was not Kaspersky cert but original cert...thats good.
So why HTTPS scan enabled is needed for safe money? Coz websites under safe money use original certs & not Kaspersky certs.

And I tried few HTTPS websites & all showed original certs. Only bank websites showed Kaspersky certs but under safe money browser bank websites too showed original certs.

So I am little confused how HTTPS scan in KIS works & on what websites it works? Coz as mentioned above all the HTTPS websites I tried showed original certs. Only Google search showed Kaspersky certs.

So why HTTPS scan enabled is needed for safe money, url advisor, etc..? Coz if HTTPS websites are using original certs & not Kaspersky certs then it means those websites are not scanned, m I right?

Hello Everyone!

I was checking my grandmother's computer, which was unbearably slow. She hadn't run her virus scan in about 2 years... (-_-) so I figured that was the problem (since she didn't download much of anything).

Guess as it turns out, some other grandkids had been noodling around on MSN and clicked an exe file or something, because suddenly the scanner came up with several alerts to the TR/Crypt.CFI.Gen. Deleted it via the virus scan, but I did some extra searching and I found a post in your forums saying to use HijackThis to double check if the components were uninstalled or not.

I ran HijackThis and it came up with a log I don't understand. Not to mention when I clicked the SendLog button it told me to send it to this forum.

I was wondering, am I in the clear now? (Or is it still hiding?)

If you're one of the Windows 10 fast ring insider users who has upgraded to the latest Redstone version, you may discover that Kaspersky no longer works with it.
Microsoft doesn't have a fix for it yet, so it's advising users to switch to the built-in Windows Defender.

I just got Kaspersky pro installed on my Windows XP Pro machine and right away it found the Lovescan worm. I knew i had a worm because the other night i turned off my firewall for just a few minutes and i got this RPC failure popup that shut down my machine after 60 seconds. I had to do a Ctrl Alt Delete and shut down the file in processes before Kaspkersky was able to delete it.

Anyways my main question here really has nothing to do with that. Kaspersky is reported corrupted files. I just did a scan a few minutes ago and it found 4. One of them was the new AIM Messenger install file that was located on my desktop. I believe i remember reading a while back that Kaspersky finds several corrupted files but they aren't really corrupted or something. So are these files really corrupted or is Kaspersky just confused? What do i need to worry about Kaspersky finding, just Virus's and ignore the rest?

A:Kaspersky Anti-Virus Users

It had 6 listed earlier but i just ran virus scan and it shows 4. These are the files that are showing up as "corrupted" in kasperky.

C:\Documents and Settings\burningrave101\Desktop\AIM Messenger 5.5.3583.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\burningrave101\Desktop\AIM Messenger 5.5.3583.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\burningrave101\Local Settings\Temp\GLB29.tmp
C:\Program Files\Gigabyte\ITE Raid Driver Setup\WIN2K_XP\iteraid.sys

I renamed the AIM messenger file from Install_AIM.exe to that back before i ever even run Kaspersky. I dont guess that has anything to do with it though.

And i found this information on Kaspersky "corrupted" files.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus has found a corrupted file, what does this mean?

A corrupted file is a file which contains different information than Kaspersky Anti-Virus is expecting. A corrupted file does not point to a viruscontamination.Click to expand...

Hi,

I have already installed avast! anti-virus 5.0.

For extra protection, I have installed Bitdefender 2009 free which is just an on demand scanner (no real-time or on-access scanning). It offers free automatic updates and allows scheduled scanning. It also shows an icon in the system tray.

I was thinking that by doing this I would have the benefit of scanning with 2 different antivirus engines. But does Bitdefender antivirus 2009 free interfere with other antivirus software installed? Although Bitdefender 2009 free is just an on demand scanner, yet I see its many processes running all the time.

Thanks

A:Bitdefender free 2009 + other antivirus ?

Even when one of them is disabled for use as a stand-alone scanner, it can affect the other and cause conflicts. Anti-virus software components insert themselves into the operating systems core and using more than one can cause instability, crash your computer, slow performance and waste system resources. When the stand-alone is actively running in the background while connected to the Internet, they both may try to update their definition databases at the same time. As the programs compete for resources required to download the necessary files this often can result in sluggish system performance or unresponsive behavior. When the stand-alone is running, the primary anti-virus may interpret the activity as suspicious behavior or vice-a-versa and there is a greater chance of them alerting you to a false positive. If one finds a virus or a suspicious file and then the other also finds the same, both programs will be competing over exclusive rights on dealing with that virus or suspicious file. Each anti-virus may attempt to remove the offending file and quarantine it at the same time resulting in a resource management issue as to which program gets permission to act first. If one anit-virus finds and quarantines the file before the other one does, then you encounter the problem of both wanting to scan each other's zipped or archived files and each reporting the other's quarantined contents. This can lead to a repetitive cycle of endless alerts that continually warn you that a v... Read more

I am actually trialing Bitdefender paid version, just asking because my trial is over in 89 days. Is Bitdefender Free a very good alternative? Does it have Photon, Idle Scan, Active Virus Control, etc? Note that I am actually on an Emsisoft subscription, which is going to expire in 147 days. Also, I just need protection until Black Friday because I will get a new computer then.

A:How Does Bitdefender Free Compare To Other Products?

it have all the futures from the paid version only photon isnt in it(that says the bd staff) but for me, its using for sure some caching, fingerprint system). I dont know why almost all saying that this free av is bad. Its the best av for a user who just dont know nothing. He cant make anything wrong. Set and forget, for real. Some ppl saying its alrdy not delovement anymore. But i dont think so, u still get every 1-2 hours signatur updates, the Forum for the free version is still opend and the detections is as good as the paid version. Sometimes the detections is even better(maybe because its more cloud based than the paid av from bitdefender). If u have a emsisoft key, use EIS9. The behavour blocker is top notch from eis.

Hello,

This is a mini-review of BitDefender Free. ** See illustration below in thread and next post for important infos **

Pros:
Virtually 0 % resource usage on my W8.1 system (even when running full scan).
Essentially requires no user interaction; virtually "set-and-forget."
Requires virtually no user knowledge/experience to quickly learn to use properly.
No cost (but not free).
Signature database identical to paid version (but local signature cache is tiny, so detections may take a long time until BD Free cycles through entire signature database during its continuous scan).
Malicious URL blocking that does work equivalent to paid version.
User can manually perform full-system scan.
Real-time protection (Virus Shield with heuristics/Active Virus Control).
Can Quarantine, Restore and re-Quarantine detected files.

Cons:
No firewall.
To be effective, system should not be turned off so as to always have continuous scan running.
Scans are so slow that malware may be on system for far too long.
No way to increase scan speed.
Essentially no support (but there is a PDF manual).
Online offers when register product.
BD Free will auto-delete files without user approval during installtion; it deleted Emsisoft's a2hook32.dll during the initial installation scan (see posted screenshot in thread with reason why BD Free did it).

Impression:

BD Free is the minimalist AV taken to the absolute limit. It is so extreme I consider it "Experimental." A curiosity... Read more

That's the question. MSE works pretty well but it seems BitDefender gets high marks (everyone is assuming the free version is using much of the same engine found in the pay version - I hope that's true). I'd like to give it a try if they can work together without stepping on each other.

A:Can free BitDefender and MSE live together happily?

I do not recommend having two anti virus programs on one computer at one time.
It doesn't matter which two brands. Just install one at a time.
I use MSE and many have good luck with Avast but still just one at a time.

Greetings,

In 2013 I tried Bitdefender Free 2013 on my WinXP computer.  I chose to uninstall it and thought I had using their own uninstaller program.  Now.... 1.5 years later I found Bitdefender again on my computer.  I was running Pitiform Speecy (nice program) and saw I had 2 antivirus programs running..... Avast! and Bitdenfender.  Wow... was I surprised.  I uninstalled Avast! because of an iastor.sys BSOD problem and that seems to have solved that problem.

Now, however, I have tried to uninstall Bitdefender but can't find a way.  It doesn't show up in Revo and I used the Bitdefender uninstall program again.  It appears to have worked but it still on the Virus Protection tab in Windows Security Center and also on Speecy.

Any help to remove Bitdefender completely is appreciated.

Sometimes the uninstall works more effectively if you first stop and disable the program's service (and associated processes) or perform the removal in safe mode so there are less processes which can interfere with the uninstallation.

BD Free AV was just released for the english market (it has been available for Romanian users for quite a while). I installed this on my W7 x64 machine this morning and it has been working flawlessly. It is very much a set it and forget it AV that is cloud based. It uses about 100MB of RAM on boot for a couple of minutes and then fluctuates around 30MB and below. It has very little disc I/O, especially when compared to other cloud based AVs like Panda Cloud. The UI is as simple as anything I have seen, and there are no settings to configure. It will auto update itself hourly, do an auto quick scan daily, and an auto full scan weekly.

I recommend using the BD product page that I linked to in this post (#1) to download the product, as some of the direct downloads in the Wilders thread didn't want to install the english version. The user manual is very well written, and gives a ton of info on the design philosophy as well as how to install, manage and uninstall it. This could very well be one of the best new AV releases in quite some time.

A:BitDefender Antivirus Free vs Avast Antivirus Free vs Avira Antivirus Free

Resource Usage (eg: CPU, RAM): draw, with the indication of Avira, since BitDefender takes overall a little bit less of CPU time, but consumes much more RAM.
Level of Protection and Features (eg: Antivirus , Firewall, Behavior Blocker): Avira has more features, configuration options and is generally more effective when it comes to the malware detection (Proactive and Reactive).
Overall Winner: Avira.
Edit: I've just noticed, that you've added Avast - as the third contestant - to BitDefender and Avira. Still Avira is the winner here. Avast is not too hungry for PC resources and perhaps has more features, but its engine is not so good, and its detection ratio usually lags behind both: BitDefender and Avira.

This thread has been mainly created for kaspersky products users.
How do you find the technical support?
I find it really bad. I sent them a mail regarding kaspersky slowing down the internet connection, they sent me a reply with a solution which didn't work, so I sent them back a message saying the solution didn't work and to provide an alternative, I haven't received a message again, its been a month almost!
I used the kaspersky forum & I find the members especially the senior members and moderators extremely rude.
I remember sending a Personal Message to a moderator, I sent the PM with my caps lock on, he replied back saying he wasn't BLIND and wasn't stupid to read message in caps. Now that seemed unprofessional

Hello Bleeping computer. I come here to seek your excellent help.

So today, I went to do a full scan of my system with my antivirus (Bitdefender Free Edition). To my horror, the notification bubble popped up and said it had found and removed 40 something threats. I found this a bit strange since I had just ran a Malwarebytes scan that came up completely clean, and my computer was running fine. I tried to view what it had found, but it kept glitching out (Apparently, Bitdefender Free has a reputation for glitches). I tried to view the "An on demand scan is ongoing" event (Even though it said the scan had finished), but it said zero threats found in the event. Also, when I went to the threat control tab, there is nothing in the quarantine. I know that Bitdefender Free will sometimes delete infected files instead of quarantining them, but it seemed like out of the 40 something threats it said it found, at least a few would be quarantined.

The program was glitching out pretty bad, reloading the events and not allowing me to clear them (A system reboot fixed this). I continued to scan with Hitmanpro which found a couple PuP registry entries (Which, since my trial had expired, I manually deleted with Regedit), and AdwCleaner, which found a registry entry for a proxy server override? (Something like that), does that mean that I was using a proxy server? If so, That's bad.

I understand that Windows Defender will now also protect you against PUPs and is much more robust than in previous versions of Windows and provides much better security.

Would I be better off with the free version of Bitdefender Antivirus, or should I stick with Windows Defender?

(Windows 10)

A:Windows Defender vs Bitdefender Free Antivirus

Windows 8 and Windows 10 integrates a robust version of Windows Defender for its anti-virus and anti-malware protection. IMO Windows 8/10 Defender is just as good as any other free antivirus solution (and probably easier to use for the novice) without bundled toolbars or nagging popups...read Is Windows Defender Good Enough. With that said, Bitdefender is one of the few free anti-virus products which does not bundle toolbars or have nagging popups.Although Windows 8/10 Defender provides some anti-malware protection...it is weak, meaning it does not provide comprehensive protection and cannot prevent, detect and remove all threats at any given time. This is true for most anti-virus solutions. Anti-virus and anti-malware programs each perform different tasks as it relates to computer security and threat detection. Essentially, they look for and remove different types of malicious threats. In simplistic terms, Anti-virus programs generally scan for infectious malware which includes viruses, worms, Trojans, rootkis and bots.Anti-malware programs generally tend to focus more on adware, spyware, unwanted toolbars, browser hijackers, potentially unwanted programs and potentially unsafe applications.Anti-virus and Anti-malware solutions with anti-exploitation features protect against zero-day malware, drive-by downloads, exploits and Exploit Kits. Therefore, you need both an anti-virus and an anti-malware solution for maximum protection. I've heard that Bitdefender was the best antivirus software out there so I decided to give the free version a try before I bought the paid version. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium [Up-to-date] and I experience two significant issues:

1) Once installed, I could no longer use CTRL + Shift + Esc to access the task manager. Actually, I couldn't even access the task manager at all. After I uninstalled the free version, I could access it again.

2) I couldn't shut down my computer. It would just freeze on a the desktop background screen and wouldn't do anything.

3) Chrome became extremely slow.

I'm not sure if there's a solution to these issues, but I'd love to hear it if so.

A:Bitdefender Free Antivirus issues with Windows 7

1. Just to be certain you meant CTRL + ALT + DELETE to access the task manager? I wasn't sure if that way even works..?

2. Are you sure nothing got passed BD or the AV you had before maybe scan with Zemana..

3. Did BD install any extensions to chrome? Sometimes extensions can clutter your browser and cause more harm then good. Possible run CCleaner and see if that helps.

Instead of waiting until I am desparate can anyone suggest a free portable AV program

Because I mentor dinosaurs (older than myself) I want to have a portable AV if their PCs are very sick.
In the last week I have had two infections (I think from hoax emails) that took me 2 days to clear up.

Today I discovered SuperAntiSpyware portable ... is not portable.
- the download is an executable that "installs" SAS onto a PC and after uninstalling leaves a substantial collection of registry items behind.
- CCleaner only found 3 of 22 items
- I manually disabled the orphaned items with "_obs" affix.

When I ran the "extracted" SAS in its alleged portable "mode" the registry inherits another 7 new SAS keys

Any suggestions for a decent/acceptable emergency AV for PCs that are so "ill" only an inserted thumb-drive will do ? . . . .

run SUPERAntiSpyware as a portable application by INSTALLING it to a THUMB DRIVE

I'm looking for a (free) discussion board to use on my website, but my desired specs are making finding what I want difficult.

I want a board that simply lists (in a date-ascending order) the poster's comments once they've submitted their entry. I don't want a fancy forum with 'topic', 'last post', 'replies' columns. I want my forum to be completely 'open' as far as discussions go (hopefully, people using it will stay on topic anyway).
Do I want a forum, message board, or bulletin board?

Here's an example of how I want my forum to look and operate. Does anyone know if normal forums are customisable enough to make them look like this? Thanks.

here is the promo link

A:Kaspersky Internet Security 2015 1 User need info

License keys usually have an activation period when you have to insert the key into the product before the key becomes unusable. I don't know what kind of license Kaspersky is offering exactly on this Newegg promo. You better call their support if they know to help.

Your options could be to buy 1, 2 or 3 Years of subscription

So did Microsoft just make a new offer? No, this is about something has been offering for quite awhile. You just have to know what to look for.You can still get your hands on a no-cost upgrade to Windows 10 by turning to a page for people who use assistive technologies. Here is the page you want:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgradeThey use the term' 'assistive technologies' defined here:Assistive technology is an umbrella term that includes assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices for people with disabilities and also includes the process used in selecting, locating, and using them.So this has a very broad range. I could include family member with a condition that would benefit ma technology that helps or rehabilitates. Also, Microsoft not putting down hard rules and proo0f of need or use. Until further notice,  you will use your own good judgement.Side note. Rather than install Windows 10 as an upgrade to anything, just install it as fresh install on a new disk or a clean partition. A upgrade have fail due to software compatibly issues.

A:How to Get Free Windows 10 Today.

I'm sure there is a subset of people who were resistant to upgrading to Windows 10 only until Microsoft said "OK the free upgrade offer is over now" when they decided "Oh yes it is".Allegedly it requires a call to MS support at a certain point in the process now, as it was subject to abuse.
