Error messages from firewall

Q: Error messages from firewall

My firewall (NIS 2003) has been generating error messages lately, the

“xxx has caused an error in yyy. xxx will now close”

kind of messages.
I just get them once in a while, and the program seems to be working fine in spite of these errors.

But, do the messages mean that the program has somehow gone bad and it’s not protecting me the way it should any more?

I’ve ran several virus, trojan and port scans and they all came clear. I’d hate to have a false sense of security, though. Would it be better to just remove it and reinstall it?

What’s your advice? …..

Looking for a firewall on here, I found a link to ZoneAlarm. When I tried to download it, I got the error messages: "Could not load the DLL library C:\Windows\system\kernel32.dll. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format." I clicked ok, then got the following: "Could not load the DLL library C:\Windows\temp\vsutil.dll. One of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found." Now what? Is there a way to fix this, or another firewall I could try? Thanks for the help. You all have been wonderful in dishing it out to me lately .

A:ZoneAlarm error messages-need a firewall

Well, I did some hunting of my own, and for anyone else who needs a firewall, I got one from this url: It downloaded and installed with no problem.

Hey BC community,Note: I have never had a problem like this before, it has just started this week.I play maplestory, and this program detected something wrong with my firewall. So I proceeded to my security settings and attempted to edit my firewall settings: turn it on/off and then this error code popped up:So I tried to edit the other settings and the same error code came up each time. After that came up SEVERAL TIMES, I went to a microsoft and other forums to search for help. They told me to go to this window:And said to go to: Windows firewall and do something with it...but it's not there to do anything to? I really have NO IDEA what to do! I have used this link Diagnose and fix Windows Firewall service problems automatically and downloaded the fixer. This told me that the problem may be occurring because of a group policy or Norton security firewall program. I do not know how to change either of these. Any sort of help would be much appreciated.

A:Error Code 5. Firewall. Firewall does not start.

Do you have norton security installed?

If so it uses its own firewall, in which case you do not need windows firewall on. You should not run more then one firewall at a time.

I am using Windows ME in a new Dell Dimension 4100 series, Pentium 3, 1.1 gig, MSN Office 2000 Professional.

I am having trouble saving a word document that was e-mailed to me. I did a "save as" into "my documents." Then I changed something in the document, and I saved it. Upon closing the document I was asked if wanted to save changes and I said yes.(this confused me as I don't normally get this when I do the normal 'save' under the 'file tab')
Later when I went to open this document, I got an error message, "Locked for editing by another user, click notify to open as a read only copy". When I clicked on notify, I got another error message,"Winword has caused an error in winword.exe. Winword will now close.Try restarting your computer."

When I tried to delete this document, I got the message "Cannot delete file. Access is denied. Source file may be in use."

I experimented and again saved into my documents, again made a change, hit save and closed the doc. When I got the message asking me if I wanted to save the changes, I said no. This procedure enabled me to reopen the document.

I don't understand what is happening and why the key seems to be how I answer the question, do you want to save the changes?

Can someone help?

A:Word doc-error messages: locked, winword error, source file

SOUNDS LIKE (tho I'm not sure), that Word didn't exit properly at least that one time. Next time it happens, and you believe Word to be closed, hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and see if "winword" is still in the task list. If so, click on it and hit End Task. Then delete your file.

If your programs aren't "really" closing down, you may just need to clean up your hard drive. Follow the instructions at:

You're computer is most likely going into default mode because there is something else wrong with it.

Welcome to the WSF, Junyahh!

Please use the following diagnostic tool. It has a powerful detection mechanism, and may help us get to the cause of your issues:

Please use the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool.
Download: Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Download
Select the version that applies to your system.
Save it to your Desktop.
Double-click the downloaded file to run it.

When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.
At the program's console, press the Scan button.

When done, the tool produces a log, FRST.txt, in the same directory from which the tool is run (Desktop).
Please provide the FRST.txt in your reply.

The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log: Addition.txt
Also post the Addition.txt in your reply.

Also, use the Farbar Service Scanner

Let's get a view of all services and dependencies scoped by the tool...
Make sure the following options are checked:

Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center
Windows Update
Windows Defender

Press: Scan

When done, FSS creates a log, FSS.txt, on the Desktop.

Please provide the FSS.txt in your reply.

Thank you.

So my laptop has a bunch of problems. It started out as a virus infection then I found out more problems.

First of all, thank you to Broni for directing me to the thread that tells me to run DSS.

I can't run a systems restore. I get the 0x800700B7 error. As well, Systems Restore says that I've never had a Systems Restore done before, which I think is odd, because I recall seeing Systems Restores created last time I checked (maybe a year ago?)

I also can't turn on Windows Firewall. I get the "Windows can't start the Mpssvc" message.

Mod Edit: Moved from Win8 to the Am I Infected forum ~~boopmeI randomly decided to look at McAfee and check my settings, etc.  When looking at the main screen, everything states its on and green.  I had the most current definitions loaded.  When I checked my McAfee firewall it stated on.  When I clicked to go into the McAfee firewall, the screen then changed and said it was off.  When clicking the Turn On button, it would immediately shut off.  I searched this issue and the blogs stated to look at the Windows Firewall under Services.  When I checked, it was not there.  I did a Windows Search for it and found it.  When it opens it gives tells me I need to Update the Firewall Settings.  When I click on Use Recommended Settings it gives me an error "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings.  Error Code 0x8007042c." I've checked out some of the blog discussions and followed a few thread about creating new register.bat files and running them.  I've also tried merging some .dll files also per the bloggers.  After doing these actions, the Windows Firewall now appears in my Services but when I click to start it I get the error "Windows could not start the Windows Firewall Service on Local Computer.  Error 1068:  The dependency service or group failed to start"

I am need some help. I have 2 problems right now and I am not sure if they are related or not. Everytime I try to upload a photo to a Yahoo group photo album I receive an error message "DNS error, cannot find server". This message disappears when I refresh and just hang out on the Yahoo site. This just suddenly started happening. Yahoo has been no help nor has Earthlink. I have deleted cookies and tried every suggestion offered by the error page, but nothing works.

Also, I cannot click on email links and get to the actual email. This also just started. I get "default mail client not properly installed" as an error message.

About 2 months ago I installed and then uninstalled Earthlink's Total Access CD. I tried to clean out my hard drive when I uninstalled by deleting things I didn't think I needed anymore. This is the only thing I can think of that I have done that may have changed things.
I am not a computer whiz by any means, but I am "computer frustrated". Does anyone have any advice about what I could try? Please be specific because I am not sure I have the background information many of you have. Thank you so much.

A:2 error messages I can't seem to fix

Hi hokieflag92, before we dive in on the DNS error, I need to know how you connect to the internet. Do you have broadband or dialup, and who is the provider?

As far as your e-mail problem. Lets check the simple solution first. Click Start, then Control panel. Under control panel look for Internet Options. After opening internet options, look for and click the programs tab up near the top. Look under E-Mail. Is your e-mail program listed their? If not, click the drop down arrow and see if it is in the list. If it is, select it, click apply. then click ok. Now try clicking on an e-mail link again and see what happens. Let us know

I keep getting various error messages on my networked computer. Rebooting helps, but the problems reoccur, sometimes after just a few minutes.

When I click on any file on the desktop, "Not enough quota is available to process this command," but even if I exit out of all open programs this message still appears.

Hello pealow:

Could you please post your system specs. If you look in your account profile here at TSG, there is a place where you can add your specs. They will appear above all your posts as a small computer that can be clicked on, so that techs can see them. Helps to post them in your posts, too.

If you could, please include in your specs for this post the OS and also how large your main hard drive is and how much free space there is on the drive...

Starting this morning, I am constantly getting all kinds of 'error' messages. I ran a full scan and it came back with no threats detected. I know very little about computers but I want to stop these messages!!
I have an Aspire laptop running Windows 7.

A:Keep Getting 'Error' Messages

If this is a malware question, you should follow the instructions in this sticky thread to provide the trained antimalware helpers with the information they need about your computer.

Just as important is providing a description of what's actually going wrong. What are these error messages and what seems to trigger them? From your description it is possible that there isn't any malware involved at all.

During startup several error messages pop up. Each pop up says ( '[explorer]' being the only difference):

[explorer].exe Bad Image

C:\Windows\System32\diskcopy32.dll is either not designated to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support

This just began happening today, but I don't want it to get worse..What can I do to fix this?

A:.exe Error Messages

Reading through similar problems posted by others it seemed like it might be relative information that very recently a hotmail e-mail account that I have had for a very long time was blocked by the system administrators. It was sending junk mail to a bunch of recipients that I don't know and in turn was getting postmaster delivery failure notices in the inbox for all of them.

Hi, I really really need your help. I bought a laptop about 2 months ago which is toshiba a110 and it has been working fine up until now. However, I tunred it on yesterday and a ridiculous amount of error messages keep coming up on the screen. They always say the same thing which is "C:\Windows\System32\COMMDLG32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support." However at the top of the message there is always a different saying such as "Itunes helper" and then it says bad image.
The error message that repeatedly keeps coming up at the top of the box is always this "mskagent.exe"
I really hope you can help me asap because its so frustrating!!

I recently moved and when I plugged my computer back up everything was a mess. I got the mouse and keyboard working and got rid of several viruses among other things. I believe that my computer is clean now; however the printer won't work, I get a "One Button Application" error message that reads, "The Service has returned a service-specific error code". Also, my Windows Media Player won't run. The error message is, "Cannot play back the audio stream:no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding." I don't know what this one button application is. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

A:error messages HELP, HELP, HELP!!!!

First Question:

Are you running an HP computer?

I ask because HP has a One Button Disaster Recovery. If you are trynig to run the service as a user account and not a Local System Account you will get that error. Any service that tries to run as a user account can get a simular message.

Right-click My Computer and from the drop down menu click Manage.
From the Services and Applications menu, click Services.
From the right scroll down menu, double-click Task Scheduler.
Click the Log On tab, select the Local System Account and Allow Service to Interact with Desktop options, and then click Apply.
Click the General tab, click Start.

from Microsoft KB article 223170

I would also ensure you have all the latest drivers (NIC, Video, Audio and DirectX). Once you have them all downloaded:

Right-click My Computer, select Manage.
In the left side highlight Device Manager.
In the right side, expand (click the "+") Display Adapters and right click every adapter listed and choose Uninstall.
Do the same for Network Adapters.
Expand Sound Video and Game Adapters, find the one on the list that represents your Audio Card and uninstall it.
From the Action drop down list, choose Scan for Hardware Changes.
Once they have all been replaced, Update DirectX (never let DirectX have the last word on your drivers) then update the drivers (if you weren't prompted to do so during the 're-discovery')

Let me know how it goes

Bridge is malware. You should post a log for us to review.

Make a folder on your hard drive, like My Documents\HJT
Download Hijackthis.
Unzip the file to the folder on your hard drive.

Double click on Hijackthis.exe then click on the "Scan" button, then click on "Save Log".

Copy and paste it back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

What's going on and how can I fix this? I can be surfing the net or checking my e-mail and I receive these messages, it also states that a event log is being generated. This just started happening today I haven't downloaded or changed anything.

I would find it interesting to see how many error messages show up in your event viewer, on average, each day.

I can get a lot when I am installing/configuring new hardware or software, and most of my error messages get generated on each start-up. On average when things are running reasonably well I still get 10 or 12 a day. Most (all?) of these don't seem to cause any problems for me.

In any event - how many do you get?

A:How many error messages do you get each day?

The same 3 at each startup.

I have a Linksys router and 2 wireless Linksys adaptor cards. The "wired" computer (the one with the router, adaptor card and cable modem) is an HP with Win XP. The wireless comp has a Win 98SE os. I continue to receive the following error message:
"There is a hardware conflict for IP address with the system having hardware address 00:OF:66:6C:1B:IE" The "192" address I'm sure is me, the other is my wife's.
I have called Linksys tech support several times. They've attempted to come up with a solution, however I still get this message.
I've set-up the wireless network several times in an attempt to get this resolved, but still get this message. I tried running the hardware troubleshooter on my comp, but because one of Microsoft's "critical updates" messed that up, I can't even do that.
I've tried running various "troubleshooters" including Fix-It Utilities 6.0, but nothing shows up.
This is becoming increasingly annoying........

Hi all, I am running Windows 7 and I.E. 8 and Chrome and have tried Firefox too and have the same problem.

Everytime I type, click a link, navigate to a new webpage etc I get the error 404 message. The irony of this is that a simple refresh on the page once the error 404 message has appeared then lets the page load as normal.

I cannot for the life of me think what is causing this, our network runs through a router with my PC and my sisters wireless laptop the only two connected devices.

Any ideas or help would be much appreciated, this is happening in all 3 browsers mentioned above.

Coupla weeks ago I got a virus on my computer. My antivirus software found it in a scan, but couldn't remove the files for me. On the advice of my antivirus company (Bullguard), I manually deleted the files (from windows/system32).

The virus is gone, but every time I log on to my computer, I get three RunDll error messages, saying "the specified module cannot be loaded" (or something like that). I get one message for each file I deleted.

Is there any way to get rid of these messages? It seems that some remnant of the virus is calling for the files to be opened, but then finding the files are absent. Or something.

Any ideas?

The error messages are Sockconv has cause a error in ESOCK2REG.DLL and I believe the other says Rundll has caused an error in NEWDOTNET2_109.DLL. I don't know what I need to do to correct these errors. I would greatly appreciate anyone who can help me with this problem.

Keep getting error 403 messages
and the word java at the bottom,

If anyone can help me please.

A:Keep getting error 403 messages

Are you getting the error message in your web browser or is it coming up in some other program? Is thre anything else besides the word "java" in the message?

If you are getting the 403 error message using a web browser, it means that you do not have permission to access the particular contents of a given web server.

if you are connecting it with USB port then try connecting with another USB port on your dell. else you can also check by connecting your camera on a different PC and see if its giving the same error. if not you might be having a hardware issue.

Hello RheanunI do not have my antivirus working all the time but I do use avast. Before we start, you need to realize that you are missing one important program on that computer: An antivirus. This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world. You need to install an antivirus program as soon as you can and run a complete scan of the computer. I recommend you download one of the following the free antivirus programs: Avast or AntiVir orAVG antivirus Never install more than one antivirus scanner or firewall on your system! Several together can give you problems and decrease the reliability of it seriously! * Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop: Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan. Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan. Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen. Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start. Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file. When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:

This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-fo... Read more

I believe this is equivalent to a "page cannot be displayed" type of error.

Are you running a firewall, such as Norton Internet Security or ZoneAlarm? If so try turning it off and see if the error goes away.

I have posted this elsewhere on your forum, but as I use Spyware Doctor, it could be relivant to this topic so I have posted it here too - sorry if any confusion is made by this

Right, well this might or might not be an IE problem, as its not the only program this is effected............. Basically, im getting an error literally every 20 mins, whether it be IE6, Windows Media, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Fruit Machine emulator....... basically any program im using, I am getting an error where the program has to terminate - when I click on the error information, its refering back to a text file (ive already researched this and its basically just writing to the file a log and is not the actual problem). Also from time to time, im using IE and all of a sudden, without notice of any errors, IE just closes itself down.

This is really annoying me this problem, as I have virus scanned and used Spyware Doctor to remove viruses and spyware etc, but I have still not found whats the do. I have Hijack This, if anyone can help me , or is willing to help me, id be very appriciative

Trying to download a small program file from this site:

I have had 2 separate copies of this software until yesterday. I use them to post auctions to eBay and since eBay has changed categories AGAIN... I was not able to update them this time. The software will not post auctions unless these are current so after NUMEROUS attempts I deleted the programs and would like to download new copy with updated categories already in place. I have downloaded from both site 1 and site 2 ( 2 times each) both to a "downloads" folder on my desktop and to the WUTemp folder on my C: drive. When I attempt to unzip the downloaded file I get the following error:
"file is not a valid winn32 application". I am at a loss as to what may be causing this???
I have noted a change in system performance lately but am unsure if it has anything to do with why I am getting this error. I have timed how long it takes to open a program from the shortcuts/desktop and even the "notepad" function. They can take up to 15 seconds to open. System is as follows:

Pentium-4 2.53 GHZ 533 BUS
M-Board P4-S5/DX+
Memory DDR 1024MB
Hard Drive 80GB UDMA-100 7200 RPM

While not the fanciest/fastest system out there... it should open programs quickly and did until a few weeks ago! Whatever is causing this is getting worse. Available memory is 771,804KB. I have almost nothing on the system. I do have Norton Internet and virus software but disabl... Read more

If I read your post correctly
by enabling script debugging it will alert you to all script errors it comes across.
Make sure you have a check in Disable script debugging and make sure there is not a check in the notification box.
Click apply and restart.
Also to ultimately fix the error from the webpage you are viewing is the responsibility of the webmaster.

I recommend a system restore. Go to Start, type System, then click on System Restore (hopefully it comes up...). Follow the instructions to restore your system back to how it was a day or two ago. If that doesn't work then try this:

Click Start and type cmd into the search box, press Enter. Up pops the command prompt. Type in regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\ExplorerFrame.dll and press enter. You might have to reboot; I'd do it anyway.

If that still doesn't fix the problem, I just found this patch from Microsoft:
Error message when you try to start Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista: "You must be an administrator to open Internet Explorer on this desktop"
It's not directly linked to your problem but I found someone who this patch had worked for.

Hope that helps
