go here http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051 for info on how to tighten your security settings and how to help prevent future attacks.
On this page you will find links to Javacool's SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard. Get them both and check for updates frequently.
The Immunize feature in Spybot used in conjunction with SpywareBlaster , SpywareGuard and weekly scans with Spybot and Adaware will go a long way toward keeping your PC free of these pests..

Important!: ALWAYS check for updated detections and referencefiles before scanning with Spybot and Adaware. And be sure to check for updates to SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard on a weekly basis.

I currently use a program I use to play Spades called Paradise Chat Online (http://www.pcospades.com)
In order to run the program in Windows 7, which I did previously, you had to change compatibility to Win XP (SP 2) and run as an Administrator. I have tried that with this program, and Windows 8 will not load it. It gives me a Runtime error before the log in screen.

Any ideas on what I can do to run the program?

Try emailing the website as I don't expect many people on this forum will know much about that software. It may simply be that it's not compatible with Windows 8. Email their support at: [email protected]

We use Windows ME. My wife downloaded spy stormer, and shortly there after our MSN and our Windows update no longer work.

Then, to try to fix it myself, I redownloaded msn, but now seem to have the beta version, and not the 6.2 i orgininally had.

The windows update error message is the following:
The Windows Update software did not update successfully. Below are some suggestions to help you proceed:
You may have clicked No when prompted to accept the Trust Certificate. To allow the Windows Update site software to install, click Yes when presented with the Security Warning dialog box.
Your Internet Explorer security settings may be set too high. To install the updated software and access Windows Update, Internet Explorer security must be set to medium or lower, and active scripting and the download and initialization of ActiveX controls must be enabled.

The error code I am getting for MSN is 80072f0d.

Since then, I've downloaded adaware and spybot, and have used them to try to fix my problem - and have used an online trojan finder and fixer, which did find a few on the machine.

I read through this forum, downloaded Hijack this - and here is my log file.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

1) Why is it that AVG will give me a warning that I've downloaded a trojan horse virus, then when I run the program it says my system is clean. The trojan was in my system restore information file - but AVG didn't find it, which led me to asking the forum (problem solved, thanks DVK). I have the latest addition of AVG, so it's not a question of updating.

2) When I had the trojan virus, after running AdAware, AVG, HijackThis, etc. . .I tried system restore and it didn't work. As the virus was in a system restore information file, I'm guessing that's why it didn't work. Would that be correct?

thanks

I have followed this procedure while uninstalling many other programmes i.e
(a) Uninstall the prog from Add/remove
(b) Restart the computer
(c) Search for folders and files concerning that prog by "find" and delete all.
(d) If necessary, search the registry and delete unwanted registry entries.

2. Till now I had no problem with any prog but for NAV while I was on step (c) there was a folder "shared files" and I deleted it despite a message that deleting it might disturb other prog.

3. When I rebooted the computer, there appeared a DOS windows saying

"windows cannot find ....\Symantec\....blah blah. If you
have deleted the file intentionally, press any key to
continue, otherwise reinstall the prog you have uninstalled
or words to that effect".

4. Pressing any key allowed the booting to proceed but the Dos window appeared on every reboot till I reinstalled NAV.

5. Which means that you just can,t remove "shared files" of NAV and which further means that you can never TOTALLY remove NAV from your computer.

6. Is it right??

A:NAV can,t be totally removed??

Vypress Chat (http://www.vypress.com/download/)

I want to write a similar chat program which I intend to keep as a freeware. I have designed a prototype but it works between only two computers (client/server). Like vypress I don't want to maintain any server.

I hope for an expert's review about the methods underlying vypress chat program which are used to achive the desired behavior. Issues like maintaining a server-free user list, broadcasting messages, support for IPX etc. (please explain how a similar program should work, the concepts I mean)

THanks!

Installed adaware SE today, and was prompted to remove the old version. It said it removed it but it did not remove the desktop icon and the file I have it in has adware 6 installation there, about 1.5 Mbs worth. If I click on the icon in the file, it goes to installation wizard for installation. I cancel it right away due to the fact that I have the SE version. Any problems down the line, if not will leave it alone.

A:adware 6 not totally removed.

Hello JDE, Cannot you just right click the file and delete to recycle?. Sometimes ADD-REMOVE doesnt completely remove things. I would delete to recycle bin, and then right click the icon and delete it. I don't see a problem, but it would be better removed.>f

Hi,

I run windows XP and have r=the Free AVG anti virus and spyware. Lately the anti virus toldme I had a suspicious sys file in system32\drivers. It was called jej11.sys

AVG could not delete it and I had lots of trouble. Eventually I found I could get rid of it using the Repair Console and DOS.

Problem is that each time I log onto the net a new sys file appears n the same directory. It is always called something new and sometimes it will delete easily... sometimes I have to use DOS.

I am begining to think that maybe this file is nexessary for the net. It does not seem to do anything. Also when it has appeared no more files appear no matter how often I log on but if I delete it it reapears (all be it in another name).

Is this a normal file being misidentifed by AVG?

Thanks for your help

Hello all!

I'm working on getting a nice minimalist setup going, and it's pretty good so far. The one thing I just can't seem to work out is managing the transparency on the taskbar. Ideally, I would have it absolutely transparent -- Windows only seems to let you go as high as about 70% -- and without highlights on the opened apps (this way, a pinned icon would look exactly the same as a currently-running icon).

Do I need to buy Windowblinds or something to get this going, or can I tweak my way there normally? If someone could help me out with this, it'd be awesome.

And while we're here, just as an aside: is it too much to hope that any of you fine ladies and gentleman have come across a nice set of clean/minimalist icons for popular programs? I mean things like Word, Firefox, WLM, Windows Explorer, etc...

A:Totally transparent taskbar, removed highlights?

Token is a pretty popular icon set made by brsev, it can be found Token by ~brsev on deviantART

I am concerned because I have uninstalled and deleted any trace of avast yet it still is showing up. This is my first post concerning this and I hope I provided enough information. I have had no other symptoms other than popups and they have stopped since I did cleaning in safe mode.

EDIT: Also, all antispyware and malware programs were disabled when these logs were made, yet they are still showing up.

Also, ran combofix before coming here for help. Quarantine log is attached as well.

I posted in the XP forum because that the OS we are using and I really don't know what other problem it could be.

I have never seen this before or anything like it - we had a computer with SPSS installed on it - control panel shows it is installed and last used on a particular date (around March 2008) - the program is gone - finit - nowhere to be found - registry shows that it was installed - we ran an undelete recovery program which found files and programs that had been deleted several years ago but did not find the SPSS program - it found the SPSS prefetch and some temp files but no program. We are totally baffled. If an individual had deleted the folder, we would have been able to recover it but it is like it was never there to start with. The only thing we did find was the Vmundo malware but I am having a hard time believing that it could have erased all traces of a particular program

Has anyone ever hear of anything like this happening at all? Ev-er?

A:Program Totally Disappeared From Program Files?!?

Hello.

It is possible to overwrite files with shredder programs so that even recovery programs can't see them.

I started my computer yesterday and found my Spyware Terminator program was just gone. No one could have accessed my computer to unistall it. Not sure if it's at all related, just thought I should mention it. Anyways, I reinstalled it and everything's fine here.

If this is malware, then it's just really bad.

Anyone else seen anything like this?

With Regards,
The Panda

Most of the well known specialized tools we use as malware fighters, including AdwClearner, are written by experts/Security Colleagues at various security forums like Bleeping Computer, TechSupport, GeeksToGo, SypwareInfo and other similar sites so they can be trusted.

Unfortunately, many of these tools (or their embedded files) are repeatedly falsely detected by various anti-virus programs from time to time. This sometimes results in an inaccurate site rating/warning of potentially dangerous software when that is not the case.

This was from quietman7 on the technet site from Microsoft. Big companies will detect these files as malicious, however this is not the case. There are times when antivirus results mess things up these are called "False Positives" so this file is to deemed safe to use.

I HATE modern networking with every fiber of my being. Once upon a time, networking was simple. To support huge corporate networks Microsoft has made it into a nightmare for home users.

Last week I upgraded to Win10. My wife backs up here win7 data on my backup drive. She is on the same wired network a I. After my upgrade she could not access the folder to backup her data. Everything was working for three years before the upgrade. In spite of all the assurances from Microsoft that functioning would remain the same I discovered the Win10 upgrade had changed the permissions. I redid them to allow everyone to read/write to her backup folder. Problem solved for a few days. Now, once again, she cannot access her backup folder. The permission changes I made remain but she gets a message asking for the "network username and password." After much googling I'm almost certain there's no such thing as a "network password." Since a network password does not exist it's impossible to supply one.

I can see her computer and access it. She can see my computer but cannot access it for the reason stated above.

Anyone know how to get past this roadblock?

A:My Wife's Wife's Win7 Macine Cannot Access my Win10 Machine.

You operate your PC as an administrator? In that case it may help to define a user "mywife" and a password, and to set the sharing and security settings for this user.

I installed a GIF creator program a few months ago and I thought I got rid of it for good. I found a new version of the same program and I want to try it out. After I installed the newer version, I get a message saying the "Trial Limit " has expired, and it wont let me use the new version or the old version.

How does my computer know I had the old version , I un-installed it months ago. I think the remains of the old program are hiding somewhere but I can't find out where.

Is the old program hiding in the registry ? If so how do I delete it from the registry ?

A:I can not totally get rid of this Trial Program.

Yes, it still has entries in the registry.

Uninstall the newer version of the software.

Then go to start -> run -> regedt32 or regedit. Then right click on My Computer at the top left inside the regedit window and Export. Save that somewhere. That is a backup of your registry now incase something goes wrong or you delete the wrong registry entries.

Now go to the edit menu and go to find. Type in the name of the program and hit enter. It will come up with a result, see if it looks like the program you had installed, if so delete it. Hit F3, it will find the next entry, repeat the first step (make sure it is the program in question then delete). Repeat until you have extinguished all entries with that program name.

Then repeat the above steps but replace program name, with the company that made it.

Once you have convinced yourself you've cleaned it up. Reboot your computer and then install your newer version.

Post back if you have any questions.

I hope this is the right place for this. Having problems with computer and was sure it was as a virus. I did a scan with my main protector and it came up with nothing. I tried House Calls and it came up with some tracking cookies so I finally used avg and it found two viruses and too many tracking cookies to count. lol I figured the first program was pretty useless and far to big anyway and deleted it. Well it didn't completely delete and now I cannot get back onto the net. My internet is still working. I am using my wireless connection to it on my net book. I have been told by my internet provider that I will probably have to use my window's program to repair it or completely erase my hard drive and start again. If there is another way to fix this I would love to know. I cannot find my windows disc Any suggestions or a "nope" you need to buy a new windows program
would be appreciated.
If I do need the windows program to fix it, rather than start over again, would that work with a new registered program?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Susan

A:program didn't totally delete, no net now........

By 'main protector' do you mean a 'normal' antivirus program or a suite that includes a firewall and anti spyware etc.?

Whichever it is, I know that some AV companies provide removal tools on their websites eg; Symantec/Norton and McAfee, and it is possible that yours does as well. Are you willing to name your 'main protector' in case someone here has experience with it?

If the program you wish to remove still has an entry in your Add/Remove list, it is possible that Revo Uninstaller can get rid of it for you;http://www.revouninstaller.com/ (providing you can d/l it, or any other removal tools, to your notebook and burn a copy of the .exe file to install on the affected computer)

If you do decide to try Revo be sure you read the instructions carefully and be aware that, depending on which settings you use, it will modify your Registry (although it does try to create a System Restore point first!)

Obviously, if you do still have active malware, getting rid of the old program may not change things that much.

Hello All:

I am running XP home and have down loaded a free program with a limited trial period. Unlike winzip where you can uninstall it and then reinstall after so many days for unlimited use, this program seems to know that it was already installed once on my machine. I've used the uninstall feature of the program to remove the program successfully, then I've gone through with regedit to remove any additional traces of information left behind in the registry. So it appears to have been removed.

If I were to download and run this program at a later date it won't allow me. Is there a way to remove the hidden information associated with this program, (which I imagine is hidden away some where in the registry) that stops me from reusing it once I've used the trial period? Unfortunately I don't use it often enough to purchase a copy.

P.S I also ran Ccleaner after removing the program, with no luck.

Thank you all in advance for any insight to my question.

Cheers

Jack

I need a program like trillian, to handle my MSN, YIM, and AIM names. I don't like trillian because it doesn't have voice chat in it, and it doesn't have all the smilies like the other messengers. Any help is appreciated.

It's been around for a while, but if any of you haven't caught the most recent version which came out about 5 months ago, you'll be amazed. The program is Trillian, and while similar to other instant messenger programs, Trillian combines them. It has connections for IRC, AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo IM. Not to mention it has a clean interface, hogs little system memory, and has built in file transfer. It can also be set to slighlty transparent so that it doesn't get in the way of other programs and work. Excellant program, I highly reccomend. http://www.ceruleanstudios.com

A:A great chat program to take on icq and aim

I like it a lot as well! not that i IM very much but it's a much cleaner way of being able to chat to anyone, no matter what service they use!

My McAfee virus scanner has for some reason not been updating itself for I guess a few weeks now. I just reinstalled it and it immediately forund a few "PUP"s. A short time later while working I got a pop up saying that it had detected a PUP and that it could not clean it. McAfee reports that it may be read only. I have searched for the file but cannot find it. Any ideas how I can get rid of it.

The last one I had made some expensive phone calls
EDIT seems there are a couple more just slightly different number in the file name

A porn dialer has been downloaded onto my computer. At start-up it says that a program is requesting information from some site and how do I want to connect. I thought I had the dialer removed, but now my computer will not shut-down. I've been working on this for hours and I'm down to my last straw.

Three finger salute shows that the "System Idle Process" is clicking along using a lot of CPU. To top everything off, the dialer is still there.

I've run spybot and killed everything is showed. Below is my HiJack log, can anybody help me out here???

Not entirely sure where to place this but I'm having a weird issue that nobody seems to have an answer for me with. All Voice Chat programs don't seem to work on my machine. When I run Ventrilo, I get stuck on contacting server forever. Teamspeak errors out without connecting. Even the internal voice chat program inside of World of Warcraft doesn't respond. I have a mic, which works fine to pick up sound, but for whatever reason, none of the voice chat programs seem to function.

I assume the problem is probably related to a router or some such, but I have another computer connected to the router that has none of these issues. In fact, I have at one time or another connected at least 3 other computers to my router and all 3 worked just fine. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.

For the record I'm running Vista on an Alienware computer, Comcast is my ISP and my router is a wired Dynex DX-E401.

Thanks.

Have a look at TextNow. You can text from your phone using the app and text from your computer using the web interface. It's free if you don't mind a few small adds or you can pay about $5 to take the adds off. Of course if you don't have WiFi available you will still need a cellular connection.https://www.textnow.com/

Hi,

So I posted this on audio/video instead of gaming because I think it's a bit more related to audio/video, yeah?

I have a single monitor and I want to start streaming on Twitch.tv. My one problem has been having the ability to integrate twitch chat with my videogame. I'd like to be able to have my twitch chat on top of my game, a bit transparent so it's not just bulging out awkwardly or covering up my game, always on top of my game, and by click-through-able I mean I'd be able to still click the area of my videogame where the twitch chat is without it switching from my game to the chat window. Another optional but highly desired feature would be to be able to capture just a portion of the chat so it's in a smaller box with only the chat and doesn't show the buttons at the top of the window(close, minimize, maximize buttons) nor the text box for typing in chat. I tried their Twitch app for Android and it crashes only when I try to view my channel, so I can never see my channel's chat.

I have windows 7 and I'm currently using Evolve broadcaster for streaming. Anybody have any suggestions? I've tried evolve forums and they don't have any suggestions. They have a pop-out "Twitch Viewer" but it doesn't have any settings options to make it always on top or transparent and whatnot.

A:Program to Keep Twitch Chat Transparent, Always On Top, and Click-Through-able

You would have to approach the software developers with these ideas, not a tech problem as such.

First off:

Im running WinXP SP2 with a Dual Pentium M 2Ghz processor and 2 Gigs of ram. Its normally a fairly fast machine, and it is. It runs Games like TF2 and the like very fast.

The problem has started recently in the past 4 days, 6 days after I had installed new RAM ( previously had 1 gig, now I have 2. During the first six days their was no problem )

Basically: Any attempt to Open or save a file using any program that uses Windows Explorer to open files ( pretty much all programs except for those that have their own Open/save browser like GIMP ) Is very slow when browsing around folders. For instance, in firefox ( althought the problem is not limited to firefox ) I want to open a flash file. Browsing to the flash folder will cause it to hang for a good minute or two. The browser hangs longer depending on how many files are in the folder that has been opened, and whatever program that is being used to open the file becomes unresponsive during the time it is frozen. Sometimes the program will crash altogether. The problem is not limited to one hard drive or one network drive.

CPU usage does not spike during the hangup, and stays at around 2~5%. Other programs running in the background ( if any ) do not become unresponsive.

The following fixes have been attempted thus far and none of them have helped.

1 ) Freeing disk space ( now 50% of C: is free )
2 ) Defragmenting ( Both C: and D: )
3 ) Checking to see if any broken network drives are mapped ( To m... Read more

I bought Easy Hi Qrecorder program a few years ago. It worked fine. I had to re-download to a new computer as the other had crashed.

I use XP home edition. The Easy Hi Q recorder is reputable, from Roemer Software. I redownloaded it to the next computer which had been recently cleaned out of my son's user account and all his programs and files.

The Easy Hi Q downloads fine and installs. But when I click on the execute file to start it, I get "DWGTrueView 2010 wanting to install instead, which was part of an Autocad program my son had, for mapping. I can't seem to get rid of this mix up. Then of course it can't find the "source" file from that autocad program since it has been deleted for months. I also tried a clean disk and defragmented after deleting all my sons files.
I just want my Easy Hi Q recorder to work properly and open up.

I just tried an XP repair using the XP disk. Still no change. And it took all afternoon to do this.

I have a Downloaded Program File entry, that has "unknown status", no creation date, and it says "none" under Last Accessed.

It does claim to be 4kb's in size.

This program file has no name, but instead, is a grouping of numbers and letters, all enclosed in parenthese..{}.

Highlighting it, and right clicking it only brings up the properties of the entry.

It cannot be deleted either from the keyboard, or from the menu...File>delete..Edit>cut.

The properties of this entry show it to be an Active X control, (with no creation date, no access date and no status. It does not appear to be damaged...it does not say that there are any damaged files associated with it).

I dont feel comfortable giving you the codebase http address, because Im not sure if it turns into a link that anyone can access. But I will tell you that it includes the words; fpdownload, macromedia, polarbear, ultrashim.cab

Using my search bar to go to that location brings me to a folder, with an apparent program that has yet to be installed.

There are 3 icons in this cab folder...a .dll icon, a configuration/notepad icon with the name "erma", and the remaining icon is an INSTALL icon.

Clicking on any of these icons brings up a command to "extract", or copy.

I do vaguely remember going to macromedia.com, (adobe.com) a couple of weeks ago, and downloading and installing the adobe flash player and the shockwave player. I seem to remember that when I first began us... Read more

I have the following files: an nfo file, 21 files named *.r00, *.r01 etc, an sfv file and a rar file which I have extracted...there are now a bin file and a cue file in an extracted files folder. What on earth do I do next? Please can someone help me with step by step instructions for a complete dummy !! Thanks.

A:Installing a downloaded program

Hello Rubi. I am a little confused with what kind of file you want help with so I am providing the instructions regarding the *.bin and *.cue files.

How Do I Use or Open Bin, Cue, or ISO Files?

If you are looking for instructions on extracting the *.rar and *.r01 files, then please go here.

Hope that helps.

I use a program (downloaded from the internet) which has become a problem.
It has been OK, but when I updated it to the newer version, it made my startup and shutdown, real slow.
I have uninstalled the program and wiped all traces of it.
My PC then ran as fast as new.
Am I allowed, in this Forum, to say the name of the program?

A:Downloaded program is problematic

I'd say so? Would help us to identify any common problems with said program. Maybe when you installed the new version, it added itself to the programs that start on boot. Could be something there.

I downloaded Norton Internet Security from the Net. Tried to install it but ran into a problem so I want to do an XP Home System Restore to a date earlier than the download. Doing so will lose all the recent downloaded Internet files so I need to find the NIS download file and burn it to CD before doing the restore. The desktop icon properties show the path but Windows Explorer only shows four temporary Internet folders, I think it creates new ones for each session, and I cannot find earlier ones. I've tried "show hidden files" but without success and have run a search in Explorer as well.

Any suggestions on how I can find older downloaded Internet files?

A:Where does IE6 put the downloaded program files?

Where the download is saved depends on your browser settings and whether you selected a folder at the time.
If you can remember the name of the downloaded file (or part of it) you can do a search for that file. If you cannot remember go back to the download site and follow the links to download and at some stage the filename will be visible.

Hi

may i ask you why my legit windows 8.1 pro 64bit full updated doesn't warn me anymore when i run a program downloaded form the net ?

for example if i download a program like process hacker under w7 i have a window like this
under w8.1 i haven't it
and i have never changed any settings

thanks

A:why no warning when i run a program downloaded ?

Windows 8 uses the SmartScreen filter to perform an application reputation check, and it now does system wide (not just when downloading programs with Internet Explorer like it did before).

In Windows 7 when launching these downloaded applications, you get the following notification:

In Windows 8, SmartScreen will only notify you when you run an application that has not yet established a reputation and therefore is a higher risk:

The user experience for applications with an established reputation is simple and clean: you just click and run, removing the prompt you would have seen in Windows 7.

I have two programs in this folder , one of which is my antivirus(norton) and the other is Download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab. I ran an hijack this log about a week ago and it did not show up on the log. Ikeep a log to compare readings, this scan it showed up on the hjt log. Are these programs already installed and can be deleted from the folder?

A:Downloaded program files?

The Norton one will be your update ActiveX,
The Flash is macromedia ActiveX control.

Both can be deleted,

However when you next update Norton it will be reinstalled, and by deleting the shockwave control will mean you will not be able to view some websites properly

Both are legitimate controls and can be safely left on your system

Hi,

In Internet Explorer, when I look at:
Tools->Internet Options->General Tab, Browsing History, Settings->View Objects
a window pops up titled C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files. I came across this while trying to resolve another problem....which will be in another post and has nothing to do with this post.

The status of one of the files is "Damaged" and I have no idea if it should be deleted and reinstalled or deleted and not reinstalled, or just left alone. It also states the install date was on 4/29/05 (which would be before I purchased this HP Pavilion laptop--I purchased it after September 2005). The last access date for the program states today, 12/7/07.
Here is the program file description:
{49232000-16E4-426C-A231-62846947304B}
Under Properties is the following info:
ActiveX Control
80KB
Status: Damaged
Code Base: http://ipgweb.cce.hp.com/rdqnbk/downloads/sysinfo.cab

Would this damaged program be affecting the performance of my laptop? Since it's been installed since I've owned it, I wouldn't know if the performance is slower than it should be or not, or why the laptop is accessing a damaged file (and what happens when it does access this damaged file???)

Any info would be greatly appreciated....

I need help with trying to load a google earth and Itunes on to my computer. When I download the programs on to my laptop then double click on the icons to download the program it start up going through it`s normal process but then the process stops and a message comes up which says:

THIS INSTALLATION PACKAGE COULD NOT BE OPENED-VERIFY THAT THE PACKAGE EXISTS AND THAT YOU CAN ACCESS IT, OR CONTACT THE APPLICATION VENDOR TO VERIFY THAT THIS IS A VALID WINDOWS INSTALLER PACKAGE

I have downloaded both program on a different computer then saved it to cd but even this did not work it came up with the same message

A:Can Not Load Program That Is Downloaded From The Net

With Vista it's a good idea to right click on the installer and select "Run as administrator".

I've installed the latest version of iTunes on several computers without any problems.
Google Earth, OTOH, fought me tooth and nail before I got it installed - not a real pleasant experience. It took a lot of googling to get it to work correctly!

I tried to install the free version of Spamfighter, but when it came to activation I got a message saying it was impossible to connect to the server and to check my connections which are good. I tried another similar type program called Bullguard and got the same result. I ran anti virus programs and tried again without success. I then tried a cd burner program, and had no problem installing and running the app. I am running xp pro sp3. Any ideas?

A:Activate downloaded program

Why...did you decide to try to install malware-defense programs...at this time?

What other such programs (e.g., firewall, AV, etc.) are currently installed on your system?

What is the link from which you downloaded said program?

Can you go to Windows Update and successfully check for critical updates?

Hi I have just started using windows 10 on a new PC. I have tried to download an anti virus program. It downloads and installs (well it appears to) but the program is not there when finished. Not in the programs lists or on 'remove programs' either. I cant find any way of searching the PC like I did in XP or Vista 'search for all files and folders'. Is this option still there hidden away to make things more difficult? I am at the end of my tether with this. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

My computers are both running Win 7 64-bit. I am thoroughly confused when it comes to placing programs that I download into their proper folders: That is, program files (x86) vs program files. I have read stuff on this, but still confused. for the most part, even when a dl'd program suggests being installed into PF, I, for whatever reason, place it into PF (x86). Although I have read that placing the program into the wrong folder may cause the program not to work properly, so far I have not had this problem...nor any other problems that I am aware of. Could someone please set me straight on this issue?

A:Program Files or Program Files (x86)-Where to place downloaded program

I let the installer put it where it is supposed to.

If I trust the software I trust they know best where it should be installed/placed.

If I can't trust the software maker why am I downloading/installing their program?

Hi.
I have an HP Pavilion running Vista home premium.

When I am cleaning my computer out at the end of the day, I open up internet options and "veiw objects", which brings up my DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES folder.

In there are 3 or 4 active x files.

But 1 in particular has a status of DAMAGED.

Vista is different in that I cannot just delete this damaged file, like I could in XP, or in earlier windows versions.

All I can do is right click it, which brings up a "properties" link.

This damaged file is an active x file, and the "code base" reads like this:

http://platformdl.adobe.com/NOS/getPlusPlus/1.6/gp dot cab (I changed this to read 'dot com' because it appears to be a direct hyperlink to my computers files...and I dont know if anyone could click on this and open my files...so, i added the dot com)

The link takes me to a gp[1] file that looks like it originates from my adobe illustrator installation, and inside this file are several Adobe GetPlus application files, a .dll and a .ocx active x file.

Here is the explorer folder trail to this GetPlus folder that is apparently corrupted.

Temporary Internet Files>Low>Content IE.5>PO6ALQ9S>gp[1] (which appears to be a cab file, as it has that icon that looks like a two drawer blue file cabinet with the bottom drawer half open).

Hello,
While searching for programs/files to remove that I no longer use I opened my downloaded Programs file and found "Adult Links". (Yes my husband visits those sites) Anyhow, when I try to remove it, a box comes up with the following: "These program files are currently being used by one or more programs. Please close some programs and try again. You may have to restart Windows" I closed all programs except "Explorer and systray" and restarted, but it just won't go away. I've been trying for a couple of weeks now. Also if someone knows how to remove it, could there possibly be a way to block it from coming back?

I'd really appreciate any and all suggestions.
Thank you

Hi..I'm looking for some advice here..I cannot remove a program that was downloaded from bearshare. I've tried restarting in safe mode, going into deleting the program, but it keeps asking me to insert the disk I originally downloaded from--and I don't have it.

A:Can't Remove Program Downloaded From Bearshare

Short Answer: Download, install, and use the trial version of Uninstall Plus! You can download it from HERE. This program can often succeed at uninstalling programs that otherwise are stubborn to remove.Long Answer: Using peer to peer websites is one of the top ways computers get infected. You have to ask yourself "Why would someone give me something of value (such as music) for free?" The answer is that bundled with the free something is a malicious something that you don't want on your computer. My guess is that you are experiencing other buggy behavior from this computer as well. If so, chances are good that you are infected. If you believe you are infected, then consider posting a High Jack This! log in the HJT forum here at Bleeping Computer. To find out more, read the Preparation Guide found HERE. It is very important that you follow ALL of the instructions found within before actually posting the log.

Good evening everyone---

First, I will state that I'm using WinXP Home and IE6...

I was wondering if anyone could please tell me how to get the files within the C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files folder to appear? It used to display all the active x controls and plugins that I had downloaded, but now it shows zero items? However when I right click on the folder and choose properties it says it contains 6 files. They also do not appear under add/remove programs in control panel.

I would like to get these files to appear, so that I can right click on them and choose the remove option.

If it isn't possible to get these items to appear, is there some command I can execute in order to remove/unregister these active x controls/plugins?

Much Thanks in advance!

Hi
I have a desk top PC with Windows XP SP3 and use IE 8. When I clicked on Tools> Internet Options.>General Tab>Browsing History>Settings and then View Objects I found there were 17 entries with one dating back to 2005. Some entries are associated with programs that have long since been removed. Of the 17 files listed 10 were shown as "Installed" in the Status column while 6 were shown as"Damaged" and 1 as "Unknown".
Some of the "Damaged " files have either "none" in terms of size or "none" shown as a creation date.
Can anyone tell me whether or not it is safe to delete these entries?

Hi All,

I'm using Blink Personal antivirus. Blink uses a program called "SyncItGUI" to download updates for Blink. I'm using the MS Resource Monitor and its showing that SyncItGUI is downloading a lot of data. I live in India so I have limited bandwidth. Is there a tool that will log how much total SyncItGUI is downloading? It runs in the background. The Resource Monitor just shows the current rate of download (i.e. the download speed). I want to know how much it downloads in total. Any tools can do this? I did an internet search and didn't find anything. I also looked at the Windows logs and didn't find anything. Thanks,

Running down a dream....Click to expand...

I have "Damaged" downloaded program files, all of them at this status. What the heck could cause this? And what are these files in the first place? I have copied them prior to this damaged thing, on floppy disks. Do not know what the heck to do with the copies, but have them.
1-What are these "downloaded program files" and what do they mean to me, my system?
2-What could have caused them all to show as "damaged" in the status of each file? How do I figure out what caused this so it does not repeat itself? (had only 1 prob that day, with install of Microsoft updates?). Really think I should find out if I did something naughty that system did not approve of, so I can apologize to it and fix it up so it is happy with me again.
3-How do I use the copies of these files, if I need to, and do the "out with the old, in with the new" dance...how do I install the new files back into the system and get the damaged ones out?
Thanx for you help, again...have a great day!!

A:Damaged Downloaded Program Files?? What's this all about??

Downloaded program files are ActiveX controls and Java programs that are downloaded automatically from the Internet when viewing certain pages. They are temporarily stored in the Downloaded Program Files folder on your hard disk.

These can include perfectly legitimate applications, like Macromedia Flash player, Quicktime player, the Google toolbar installer, and the like, but also spyware.

The best way to view them is as follows:

Go to Internet Options > Temp Internet Files > Settings > Show Objects.

If any of them are damaged, right click them, and choose Remove from the context menu.

You'll just be prompted to download them again whenever Windows or an application needs them.

Cheers,

My wife has her separate user account in Windows 10 and I have mine. She needed to download Jobulator for her work. It asked for my password since I am listed as administrator. While she was signed on her account via Windows 10, she downloaded Jobulator. Now, when I sign on to my account I see her program listed and sitting on my screen. It stays on top of other windows and in reality I don't need or require the program. If I delete if from my main Windows screen will it delete it from her use? Thanks for the help.

The "codebase" has an entry that I cannot put in here because it give access to my computer, and this program, (I think.)

I seem to remember that when I first began using my new computer with the vista OS, that these needed to be updated or installed to run so... Read more

I only do what the voices in my head tell me to do...Click to expand...

All of the Downloaded Program Files on my WinXP were listed as "damaged". So... I went off road and just simply deleted the file...the Downloaded Programs File, not each seperate file, as I had some type of error when I tried to do so, I believe something about the file was being used somewhere else, to close everything and try again, but would not delete no matter what I closed down.

Now, go figure, there is no longer a Downloaded Program File on the system.

My question is...does this return when there are new files that are downloaded for use? Or???? This is sounding more and more like an X-Files case...should have not cancelled the show!

Thanx for your time and help!! Hopefully I will get it some day!!

Had a few machines that do this now, after the infection is COMPLETELY gone... you get couldn't be downloaded for anything you download in IE. Repairing/Reinstalling IE doesn't help, replacing windows defender program folder does not help.

Experienced this on vista/7 x86/x64

A:How to fix "program couldn't be downloaded" in IE after removing infections?

FYI works in other profiles, not just the one that was originally infected... so it's some sort of registry key issue for currentuser

Hi
I have both HP Photosmart Essentials and HP Photosmart Primier. I inadvertently checked for the Essentials to always open my photos, when I really want Primier. Where do I find that list of 'open with'? I have looked everywhere. Probably in the wrong places.
Thanks for whatever help you can give.

I have Windows XP 2005 which had the Norton Security pack with McAfee Firewall and McAfee Anitivirus. The antivirus expired. Oops on my part. I purchased and downloaded The Shield Deluxe 2008. Immediately I had windows popping up that stated - Detected: Riskware: Invader and messages of processes trying to inject into other processes. I have no clue what this means or the action to take. Is anyone familiar with this? I uninstalled the McAfee antivirus from Add/Remove. I don't know if I should uninstall The Shield or if it is actually working. Is there hope?

Hi Bleeping Computer,

A cracked program was installed onto my computer. I scanned my computer with malwarebytes and got rid of it, but I saw the program listed in the startup tab in the task manager menu.

I disabled it, ran malwarebytes again and the anti-virus said my computer was clean. I still see the cracked program listed and am not sure if my computer is actually clean.

Can you please help me determine if my computer is actually free of malware?

Thanks for your time

I downloaded an alarm clock program, and it's pretty cool, so I kept it. I wanted to keep it on top so I right clicked it and clicked a word I can no longer remember, but it wasn't "keep on top". Now my mouse cursor treats it as if it is no longer there (can't click on it) and the program, which name I can't remember, isn't in the add/remove programs list nor is it in google.history...So I'm confused, is this spyware? it seems like a cool little program, and it works fine, but since I chose the wrong command when I right clicked it I can't set up alarms like I wanted too. I need help......

A:Downloaded program not in add/remove or google.history

What happens if you hold right click on the clock?

I downloaded the program from the phishing site and installed it, when I clicked on it, nothing happened so I went to googe and typed in the name and then was directed to the real site where it had news of a spoof site.

So what i've done so far is: i'm currently running a scan using nod32, I emailed the program to nod and kaspersky as well as the author of the original software at phyxer.org, and ran hijack this. Here is the log, what should I do guys any help is appreciated.

Hi, I am still having a problem trying to get rid of a file dealing with Dialer.one0none. The only time this shows up is when running Norton Anti Virus scan, as being in c:/windows/downloaded program files\109554.exe. I cannot delete it using NAV. When searching for this file, it is no where to be found.
My question is this, Can I delete the entire contents of the c:/windows/downloaded program files? Maybe this would get rid of it.
I am running Windows XP Home ed. I am on cable and do not have my phone connected to the computer. There don't seem to be any problems other than this keeps coming up on my virus scan as a threat and when I try to delete it, it fails. I have tried the Safe Mode way, also have submitted a HJT Log earlier. I just need to know if the c:/windows/downloaded program files is needed. Thanks for your help. Roger

Hi All,

I'm new to vista, have just installed Home Premium yesterday, and having problems already

Vista just simply won't run or save a program or file that I have downloaded.

I am logged on as the administator, and when I try to download a program, if I try to run it, it will download it, the progress will go to 100%, then when i click run, it just vanishes and does nothing else?? If i click to save it first, it asks me where to save it to, then just vanishes.

I have a dual core 1.8 system, 2gig ram, and a 256 graphics card.

I've had a search on the 'net and can't find this problem anywhere, Can anyone help please?

Regards, fb

So I accidentally downloaded an antivirus program that is really a virus.

It really sucks. Internet explorer refuses to work. Task manager has been disabled by the administrator. Any program that operates under windows explorer fails to run properly. This makes it very difficult to use the computer.
What exactly is wrong? Do I need to repair the registry? What if I did not make a backup?
This problem has been plaguing me for a long time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, i'm wondering if it is possible to change a open with option back to unknown application on some files. i accidentally clicked open with the picture opener and its stuck on it now. how can i revert this? step by step if possible.

Thank you.

A:How to change a file's open with program to when i first downloaded it

Go to Default Programs in Control Panel open it, select Set your Default Programs. First off you need to know the extension of this file you do not want any program to open, example, jpeg, gif..etc.. Select each program that can open this file and uncheck that extension for it, then would be back to unknown.
