I'm using another computer. Ge-force 3, Pentium 3, like 896 RAM, Service pack 2.

I can't really run muti things. Like when I am using flash get to download something and I try to run internet explorer. Internet explorer won't come out inless I pause the download. My other computer doesn't have as much Ram but has a better video card and a processor. Is it just that the processor isn't fast enough?

What I mean by funny stuff. Slow downs when I open something or go to a site (includes sites like this one) that normal loads fast for me other computer. Opening some stuff and it will freeze up for few seconds.

I now for a face it is not a virus since it is very rare for me to use this computer. This is the first time I used it since a 1 year ago. When I did use it, it wasn't for downloading. It was for the simple Starcraft game.

Oh and I forgot to also say that when I power up my computer. It always goes to the bois settings. I would need to set the MHz, time, and date again and again. How do I stop it form doing that.

My computer has been slightly slower than usual...and when checking the McAfee site it stated that the 6 trojans found were that of a low threat....I'm just double checking that it didn't miss anything because my computer's been kinda slower on loading internet pages since the scan. I am aware Mcafee is not the best tool for scanning but my folks paid for my computer and the program came with it. I have to keep it til it expires. Also any advice for site advisor's that tell you which sites have viruses? Mcafee's is useless.

I bought this computer from my friend recently...I promise it was at a very low price!!! haha for 250 this comp isn't so bad but there's sooo much junk on here, I have a HJT log ready, and I went through all the steps on the thread about what to do before posting an HJT log

One problem I had was that when I tried to use Adware SE Personal edition and I was scanning my computer, about ten minutes in my comp. would crash and that was in safe and regular mode.

That said here is the HJT log

A:Solved: Comp slow-internet slow-worm?

Answer Match 56.28%

I've just connected my second computer up to my ADSL modem and the internet is very slow. Slower than a dialup connection. The other computer which is connected up to the same modem works as good as ever.

My first computer is a 98 machine 500Mhz connected to the internet via a USB port, external ethernet adaptor and then into the modem using RJ-45 connectors. this has worked well over the past few months.

My second computer is an XP machine with 2.4 Ghz processor. I have just installed an ethernet card to network the two computers. I have used a category 5 cable with RJ-45 connectors to connect between the modem and the ethernet card. The internet works on the second computer but is very slow. I think some settings must be wrong but I don't know what to do.

My modem is a speedtouch510 and has 4 RJ-45 connectors at the back to connect 4 computers.

Thanks
Steve

A:Slow internet with 2nd comp using ADSL

I can only guess that it's something like the MaxMTU size is wrong for the ADSL connection. Try cruising to SpeedGuide and downloading TCP Optimizer to setup the optimum MTU size.

A:***Comp and Internet slow...PLEASE REVIEW LOG***

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Also if you have any programs that may prevent system changes (like Spybot's TeaTimer program, Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, and others), make sure you disable them before doing any of the fixes (or accept the changes for the fix we give you when asked by the programs).

Go to My Computer->Tools (or View)->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders (it's Show all files for Windows 98).
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs (run in Safe Mode) already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Ewido (only if you have Windows 2000 or XP). If you didn't, do them now. For more information, go to http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm

Hello,

My computer has been running really irregularly. When I close or minimize any window, the application does actually close or minimize, but I can still see it. It's like there's a shadow of every window I close. It won't go away until I open something new. I can use that windows to "erase" the shadow of the window that was once there--weird!!! Also, sometime the icons on my desktop don't work or just disappear altogether. I have to restart the computer, which takes forever. My internet exploror is slower than usual, many pages freeze. Often, it doesn't respond. I've run all of my virus scans, spybot, trend mirco, panda software, and a whole bunch of other suggestions from other postings...to no avail..

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Cecilia

oh yeah, this is my computer:

Internet Explorer runs painfully slow, some random pop-up windows at a low frequency. Firefox seems ok. Overall slowdown in computer performance.

Ctrl+Alt+Del shows Iexplorer.exe running with High Ram usage all the time.

Hi,

My mother-in-laws computer is running very slowly, both opening windows, folders and the internet. She is running AVG, but I have a feeling that there may be stuff that is affecting the overall running. In Startup, there are a couple of items with just squares. Tried deleting them, but they come back.

Had to get onto the right computer to post this.

Hi, I reset my modem and went through the process of getting us back online. "Sprint" our ISP has a CD to do this. It scans through making sure you have everything hooked-up and everything. It got us back online but our connection is still rather slow it seems. The CD contains software from Earthlink called Total Access! It keeps you log-in on the main E-mail account towards who pays it. Meaning just it "surpose" to keep you conected 24-7. Do I need that software installed?

I'm on a network here. The router is: Netgear MR814V.2 Wireless/4-port. It detected my connection and it detected as not require log-in. I find that a problem as when you install the modem are try to get the thing online it does require log-in by E-Mail. So... Should I redo everything and install the software first and then hook the router up?

I did this on my Bro. computer but I can move stuff around to mine.

Note: All computers have Sp2 Windows Professional.

Need any more Info.? Let me know!

I'm not sure if my computer is infected or if it's just getting old (about 4 years) but it's gotten incredibly slow just in the past couple months. My internet connection has begun to fail at random, but other devices (tablet, phones) still are connected just fine. I update and run malwarebytes daily but nothing is ever found. Today the wifi light on the actual hardware of the laptop would not turn on, and no internet connection could be found. Finally with some digging, and I don't know really what I even did, the connection came back. We did just get a "faster, better" modem from comcast a while ago which is when the problems seemed to start, but as I said before, other devices like phones or tablets have no connectivity issues.

I have a Gateway NV55C notebook running Windows7.

Thank you so much!

I need someone to help me remove unnecessary programs in my computer. I'm seeing a lot of things in my Task Manager.

A:Computer kinda slow~

hello let's first be sure there is no malware here,Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Download Link 1Download Link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
For instructions with screenshots, please refer to the How to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Guide. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click... So I have a PC, with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installed just yesterday. It is running sluggerish if I can say so.
I will try to explain now. When I'm on YouTube, it sometimes freezes to the point that I can see the mouse pointer moving, but I can't click on anything for about 5 seconds. This occurs after I enter and exit fullscreen mode as well. Next thing is that Twitch videos lag. I know for sure that it is not a problem with my ISP.
Sometimes, even when I'm not in browser, it lags. I don't know how to explain, it just feels like it's not fluid. It's like I'm using a pc from 2005.
An Intel i5 4460 with 8GB RAM and R9 280x video card shouldn't have any problem doing this basic things. What I'm trying to ask here is how to fix all those problems and optimize my PC to run at it's potential. I need full details on why it does the things it does and how to fix them, to fully optimize my PC. If you guys need more info, please ask.

Thank you!

A:PC running kinda slow

As you said you only installed it yesterday, its more than likely that its downloading the 200+ updates, that uses a lot of bandwidth, give it a good day for those and check back in 3/4 if its still a problem.

Hi! I'm using a samsung  laptop with windows 7 32 bit os and  intel icore i3 processor  with 4gb ram.

The other week, I started experiencing this slow computer and browsing. Then I started to check on the processes and services that is running through the task manager. I saw that there is 100% cpu usage even if I am only using vlc. I ran rkill and it terminated one malware process called rezip.exe. I usually ran rkill whenever I feel like scanning my computer for viruses or malware then I use jrt, mbam and adware cleaner then emsisoft anti malware; and it's the first time I've encountered that rezip.exe being terminated by rkill. Then last week, as I did the same to somehow eliminate the malware, it detected a missing service called tbs. So in an effort to resolve this on my own, after I ran rkill, I ran jrt, then adware cleaner,  and mbam. but nothing was found. Then I started to search the internet for whatever the culprit maybe. I saw that a some malwares and rootkits can bypass an outdated program and enter your system so I have decided to download updates for windows. Over 3 days, I tried to do the same thing, but nothing was found and the win update downloader won't download anything and because of the length of time of waiting I leave my laptop on while I hope to update it when I wake up the next day. I also tried to download updates for NVIDIA  since it is my graphics driver and it always pops in the taskbar but I can't seem to download... Read more

Suspicious of something not right on a Dell laptop. (besides it being Dell.)

Running slower and buggier than i think it should be -- any advice might help. Startup takes ~ 7 minutes on this piece.

laptop is normally used for light net surfing, AIM, and homework in Office.

Hey all:

Been kinda slow lately on my HP Pavilion 1440, wunnin Windows XP.

I ran the Quick Malwarebytesantimalware last night, and that got rid of about 40 things, and then ran the long Superantispyware overnight, but only got a lot of tracking cookies.

What do I need to run to test/check/clean up my machine?
No error messages, but it's just lagging somewhat.

Thanks,

Jeremy James

Yeah so my dell laptop is overheating at times and the browsers and the sites i go to are kinda slow. But with Chrome its an exception. I was just wondering if there is any software that can check my laptop up and see what needs to be checked and resolved.

A:Dell Inspiron Laptop overheating, kinda going slow..

Certain Dell models are notorious for overheating. You can use Core Temp to check the temp of the unit. As for problems, there are a few P.E. environments, that you can run off of a USB stick, to run system tests (CPU, memory, hard drive, GPU).

I just recently acquired 2 old PCs from an accounting firm that they no longer want. They had windows 98 on them. I reformatted one, and installed Xp home edition to it. All was fine, but when I tried to connect to the internet, I get this message "Internet Explorer could not open the search page". I thought I had some connection settings wrong....nope. Then I thought it could have something to do with the wireless access point im using, so I hooked the pc directly to my cable modem......nope.

So I then took the other pc and booted it normally without reformatting or messing with any settings, and I get the exact same problem. The people who used the computer last at the accounting firm assure me that it worked on their network.

What really confuses me is that every once in awhile, I'll be able to go to google, and it isn't some cache either, I have full searching abilities on google, but as soon as I try to go to another site, I get the same error and google will again not show.

I getting frustrated with this. Right now I am reformatting the 2nd PC and installing XP Pro just for the heck of it.

Again, if anyone knows anything about the error message "Internet Explorer Could not open the search page" please help me out, and don't point me to this. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/219004 It didn't help.

Thanks

I have been reading on different sites to download different anti-spyware programs. Right now I have:

1. Ad-aware
2. Spybot
3. IE Spyad w/ Zoned Out
4. PC pitstop driver alert
5. Spyware Blaster
6. ATF Cleaner
7. PC Pitstop Driver Alert
8. Hosts Xpert
9. Windows Defender

Will these slow down my system, or make it take longer to shut down and restart my comp? Is there anything on this list that I should not have? If it's not a big deal, does anyone recommend any more apps I should download or things to do to make my system better?

If I install almost all of the reputable spyware removers and system optimizers, etc. on my comp, will it slow down my system? Will there be any negative consequences?

Right now I would opt for a faster computer over a secure one, so I would prefer speed over an increased possibility of a virus, etc (still want an anti-virus though). I'd like my comp to shut down and restart quickly, but of course it's not that big of a deal.

With that in mind...I was wondering what the computer "gurus" think is the best way I can optimize my computer? If you have a lot of experience, then what would/do you do, and what do you download for your comp? What programs should I download or buy? I'm willing to pay money for programs that I can buy at the store or pay to activate full versions of trial software, etc. if it will help optimize my computer or help my computer's speed. A:Newbie questions. Will anti-spyware, etc. slow down comp? Best way to optimize comp?

As a rule, you use:
1 firewall
1 antivirus
* Norton is not the best program around, and it's a resource hog, but since you bought it, you'll have to live with it until it expires.
* Using more then one of each is asking for problems (conflict).
As for antispyware programs, you can have as many, as you want, however, I wouldn't use more then 2 as startups, since you want fast computer.
Your computer specs look very good, but the lower number of startups, the better (this is another thing to check).
As for antispyware, I'd keep Spyware Blaster as a startup program, and I'd add a-squared: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
You may want to run others, you have once in a while, or when any problem arises.

In addition, you want to keep your computer clean of garbage, and for that purpose, you want to get CCleaner: www.ccleaner.com

Once a month, you want to run defrag. I recommend free jkDefrag: http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/ instead of Windows defrag.

That's about it. If you have more questions, please, ask.

Well dude.. i would just go with ad aware.. it wont really slow the comp down

somthing activly scanning such as norton avast etc.. will slow your comp down by taking resources... just go with a scanner like adaware that doesnt use resources..

EDIT: Norton sucks... seriously

Hi, I am having a bit of a internet problem. I will first give you all my specs. I have a Arris SBG6580 gateway, custom built desktop w/ Windows 7, Timewarner Cable ISP, and I am hardwired into the gateway with my motherboard(Gigabyte 990fx, so it is not a wireless setting problem). My Lan driver is 7.088.0617.2014 downloaded straight from the gigabyte website. I would also like to add this just started in the last 3 or 4 weeks and there were no hardware changes made on my end it just started out of nowhere. I will be connected to the internet watching movies, listening to music, connected to Teamspeak or Ventrilo on one monitor and playing Guildwars 2 on the other. Everything will be fine then all of a sudden my music/movie will stop and I will be unable to connect to any website HOWEVER I will stay connected to Teamspeak or Ventrilo (they can hear me and I can hear them) and I will stay on my online only game. If i try to change zones or characters that is when I will be disconnected. But the simple fact I am still able to play and talk means I still have internet so why can I not go to any websites or change zones, etc.

I have contacted Timewarner multiple times explaining to them the problem and all they do is resend the signal to my gateway. When I contacted Arris/Motorola they said my Downstream power was too high so I then had a technician come out from Timewarner and they put a device on the end of the coax to lower the power to around +1 Downstream. Which is what i ... Read more

MOVE THREAD TO THE MOST RELEVANT FORUM PLEASE

Every few minutes, I won't be able to load up a webpage or a game I'm playing will lose connection. It'll then take about 30 seconds for it to be solved, and then a few minutes later it'll happen again.

Strangely, in the bottom-right in the taskbar, it never shows that I've lost connection, and my brother who lives in the same house apparently isn't having the same problem. Even more strange is that I do not get disconnected from MSN or an IRC chat I'm in when this happens.

I'll notice that when opening a web-page, the progress bar just stops at half way and the web page just never opens. I can then try many different websites and the same thing happens.

I'm using a wireless connection and the signal varies from 3-4 bars out of 5, on average. The wireless router is 2 floors down from where I am, but if I was losing connection because of that, I'd be disconnected from MSN wouldn't I? And as I said, when the web pages aren't loading, in the task bar it still shows a 3 or 4 bars out of 5 connection.

I'm using Windows 7.

Somewhere there was a thread about someone complaining that they could not surf the web in IE, even though they were connected to the internet.

I have the same problem, but I use FireFox (WAAAAAYYY better...) which works fine and decided that I would give up on trying to upgrade my OS (in this case, Windows 2000)

Some solutions said reinstall Win2000, but I really could not do that, because this is my work computer and can't afford to take it of for that period of time.

Long story but I have found a way, which made me pretty excited , use Firefox or whatever, but open our microsoft update page in Windows Explorer (START -> Right click -> Explore), for some reason that works.

Anyway, this may help somebody, thought I'd drop this post.

Cheers!

A:Internet Explorer problem kinda solution

I don't think that is the solution. You are still using IE, only the IE page displays inside a Windows Explorer window.
Back to the drawing board....
As long as you use IE only for updates, you are fine. For everything else there is Firefox (or Opera or Mozilla).

Hi, thought I'd see if all is well on the folk's PC, since I'm not up close and personal with it like this often. For one thing I think the google toolbar entries are different than they are on other machines I have it on. (Mainly want to make sure nothing sinister is going on, but would also be interested in shutting off everything that can be. For example I did install Windows Messenger and enable Remote Assistance since we are going to try that when the need arises after I leave again, but assume I should figure out how to keep Windows Messenger from being on all the time. It's not enabled in msconfig or anything.)

Here's their log. We all thank you!

Hello -

A group that I am associated with is evaluating a Sharepoint 3 site, and I have been having problems with testing Windows 7 configurations.

Specifically, I have a Windows 7 system using IE8 and Office 2007 student. I can check out, edit and check in a document using Word, but when I reopen the modified file from the Sharepoint 3 site, my changes are not visible.

Does anybody have experience with a problem like this, and if so, were you able to find a solution?

Many thanks for any help or suggestions.

Bob

Hi,
I would like to surpress the CheckOut and/or CheckIn notification when I open a file on a SharePoint share for editing and saving

I have some macros working that correctly do the CheckOut and CheckIn of a file on SharePoint.

However, like the command Application . DispalyAlters = False to avoid the confirmation prompts when deleting or overwriting a file I was wondering if there is an option when addressing an Excel file which I open to modify or add a record to avoid getting the Prompt, it reduces the click moments for a user and also avoids the mistake if somebody places a check-mark and the file remains checked out for all others.
I hope I was able to explain my requirement

Hi guys.. looking for some support if possible.  Pretty much a noob to HPDM but I'm learning fast!! I have a new deployment of HPDM 4.7 SP3 installed which has an agent version of 4.7.3660.23743. I've inhertied a Thin Client estate which mostly has a 4yr old version of the client out there, ver 4.4.3660.12990. These clients are mainly t610s.  Ive tried to import 10 or so of these clients manually, but they arent checking in and remain in the Unidentified tab.  Ive found some newer thin clients, t620s, running clients around 4.6, and they check in no problem and i can upgrade them via the _Upgrade Agent job, no problems. If i try to manually point these older agents to my DM server, I get "Error of writing gateway address, please retry it", i guess the agent software is corrupted in some way.  These are all WES7 32bit clients so there appears to be no MSI or method for me to deploy this manually. Willing to set a GPO to upgrade these agents if need be.. is there any manual method for upgrading 32bit OS agents? Tried to pick apart the _Upgrade Agent task also, to see if i can script this manually, but I'm having no luck with this.  Any help appreciated with a way to upgrade my agents!!  ThanksAndy

Hi and welcome to TSF! I will say right off that Norton (aka the resource HOG) is probably your biggest issue. There are a few things to clean here though......

This took me one Google search to find:
msnappau.exe is part of the Microsoft MSN toolbar system, which initiates an update facility for the MSN downloadable toolbar. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference.

I've had this Dell Dimension 5100 for almost a year now, and everything has been flawless until recently. Now when I turn it on, it takes a long time to stop loading everything - it sits at the "Welcome" screen for 3x as long as before, then when the desktop shows up, it's only the wallpaper. Eventually the icons appear. After that it still takes quite a bit longer than earlier for the hard drive to settle down. Also, if I use standby, my computer becomes slower and less responsive (especially while surfing), eventually getting to the point where I just have to restart it. Sometimes it won't even turn off unless I hold the button down for 5 seconds. I have clicked on the "Turn Off" icon and left the house for work, only to return to the "Windows is saving your settings..." screen 9 hours later. Spyware/virus/HiJack scans produce nothing of significance. I have run WindowBlinds for months as well, with no issues until the same time recently when "the memory cannot be read..." errors started popping up. Re-install did nothing, so I no longer run it, and the errors are now gone. I'm at my wit's end. Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch...

A:super-slow startup, slow glitchy comp

Well when you have windowsblinds using it to make you a desktop that uses up quite a bit of memory and makes your computer take a while to start up. Also you might have quite a bit of stuff in your start up. To check this click start run and type in msconfig and uncheck everything you don't need in start up. If you want to make it easier you can get a tuneup utilities trial and use the start up manager and delete any and all start up entries you don't need as well as restore them if you need them later. Also you might need to run the registry cleaner that comes with the trial of tuneup utilities. It would be easier to install it and just click on the 1 click maintenace on the desktop if you installed it and checked the option to put it on your desktop. Here is the link to it: http://www.tune-up.com/download/tu2006/ all you have to do is enter you email address and click the button and it will download. If you need any further help just reply.

Hi. Just wanted to say first, Thank you! for this incredible website and the work you do. I've tried to use it to answer questions and problems I have but right now I am at a halt. My computer runs very slow and also takes about 10 minutes to load/startup and I have about 7 programs on startup. I've tried to use alot of the spyware, antivirus and optimizing software(spybot, AVG, spygaurd, advanced windows care, ccleaner, superspywareguard, ad-aware, and more) out there to help but there's still problems. Here are some of my computer specs:

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Media Center edition, with Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel Centrino Pentium M processor, 1.60 GHz
Video Device: Ati Mobility Radeon X300
Hard Disk: 60 GB
Physical Memory: 1,535 MB (System Cache: 7958K)
Kernal Memory: 102108 K (Paged: 77204K, Nonpaged: 24896K)
Handles: 14955
Threads: 609
Processes: 63
I've tried to find what processes are running that could be malicious but they all seem to check out ok with the programs I've used. I have never formatted my computer - could that be the problem? Many thanks.

Hi, My computer is running really slow, and i got told to go into, regedit. then 'edit' then 'find' then 'run once'. hopefully to locate a possible virus. is this advice correct and if so does it work? thanks to you all

A:slow comp

No, bad advice.

If you're not familiar with the registry never edit it. In addition if you indeed do have to edit the registry, you should back up the keys before you do it, so if you muck something up you can restore them.

Have you run a virus scan on your computer? Did it find anything?

Hey everyone, one of my computers has been very slow lately. It's about 4 years old. I have a comcast cable internet hookup but it goes slower then a dialup connection. Programs on the computer also open up very slowly, or freeze up.I've ran numerous antispy ware's, cleaning tools, and defrags. I'm thinking that it could possibly be that I have low RAM, but I'm not totally sure. Any ideas?

I'm on my grandpas computer. He told me he thinks he has a virus. He was saying it was running slower than it used to.

I cleaned it up a bit. Got rid of some unused programs, took a lot of things off the startup. It's slightly faster, but hes still complaining. Is there anything suspicious on this log?

I have had to download firefox as a browser as every time i use IE i get a load of IE pop ups advertising things which relate to the searches I am doing. Also my Cpu usage is constantly jumping up to 100% every time i open a new program and just scrolling down a page can make it jup to about 50%. Hey everybody, I've been having some problems with my comp. Some days it will run perfectly fine, but most of the time it's so slow, and freezes frequently. My comp is slow with programs (especially opening) and also on the internet. Aso, my processing light is always on, no flicker, just a solid light. I usually get frustrated and shut it down. I've ran a lot of anti-spyware, defrags, and disk cleanups. The disk cleanups used to allow it to run a lot faster, but now it doesn't help one bit. I'm thinking I'm just low on RAM, but I'd rather ask people who know what they're doing before I jump to conclusions. Hopefully someone can help me! Thanks everyone!

Hello, all apologies on the delay.

Your log is very difficult to analyze in this format. Please run another scan with HijackThis and when you save it to Notepad, turn off WordWrap and post it here once again.

hi. xp pro, sp3, dell laptop 1520, 30gb free space. i have run avast free, malwarebytes, check disk, temp files, disk cleanup and defrag. it's not only slow when accessing the web, it's slow when opening files or programs in my computer.
thanks for your help, boyd.

A:Comp is really slow

Hi boyd, I'm having a bad storm here and have to shut down until its over. In the meantime try this and see if its just a program in your start up cuasing the problem.
Go start - run.
Type in msconfig
check to selective start up circle.
uncheck the square box that says load startup items.
Do not uncheck or check anything else
click apply and ok and let it reboot your computer.

If everything is wrking fine that way providing your antivirus is running which it should be just leave it that way and you'll have your speed back.

I'll check on you when the storms over

Patmark.

Please download WebRoot SpySweeper from HERE (It's a 2 week trial):Click the Free Trial link for "SpySweeper" to download the program. NOTE: DO NOT click the Free Spyware Scan link. Install it. Once the program is installed, it will open. It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes. Once the definitions are installed, click Sweep Now on the left side. Click the Start button. When it's done scanning, click the Next button. Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button. It will remove all of the items found. Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window. Click the Summary tab and click Finish. Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply. Then reboot your computer - IMPORTANTThen post a new HJT logDavid
