Hi, Running Win 7 pro (64 bit) on a dual core AMD system with 6GB RAM, GPU Asus EAH 5670 with 1GB DDR5
CPU has recently starting running constantly at 50%, and jumps up to 100% at slightest provovation, where it then stays until all apps closed where it then sits back around 50%.
Have checked task Manager, nothing CPU intensive appears to be running.
Hijackthis log file attached if anybody is feeling brave

I am using a HP Pavilion dv6 with an Intel i7-2630 QM, 6 GB RAM and AMD Radeon 6770M GPU (along with Intel Graphics Card). In the past few days, anytime I open a program, such as Mozilla, Chrome, Spotify, the computer's fans kick on. This has never happened in the past. Usually I have to run a video through the browser or play a game for the fans to turn on. The fan turns on when on AC power and when on battery. When this happens, the CPU usage is around 5-7% with 40-50% RAM usage (no change from the past). I am not sure why all of the sudden the laptop's fans are turning on. I have looked at the processes and do not see anything out of the norm and the average temp of the CPU's is about 51-54 C. I have not installed any new software in the past several months. Any input or ideas about why this may be happening would be greatly appreciated. I use Process Explorer and Core Temp to monitor my computer as well as Norton 360 as antivirus software. Thanks.

Hello all,

This is my last resort to figure out why Bert (my computer) is dieing on me.

He is a 1 year old computer with Windows Vista 64 bit (Instal, not upgrade) Service pack 1, with 4 gb of Ram, a 500gb hard drive, and a 3.0GHz quad-core processor.

Lately, ive had troubles with him though,

It doesn't always start up correctly, and freezes on the Microsoft loading page, with the green loading bar.

When i try to start it in safe mode.. you'll all reconize this next part: It gets stuck on Crcdisk.sys (Yes, that infamous problem)

Ive googled the subject till i was blue in the face, and ive managed to get it to start up again (only 50% of the time) by doing the following:

I try to start up the computer, it freezes on the loading page
I hold the power button for 4 seconds to turn it off
Turn off the power bar
Press Bert's power button to drain any residual power
Turn on the power bar
Turn on Bert, and it starts properly.

So problem 1 is, id like to figure out how to fix the crcdisk.sys problem permanently, and the second problem is arguably worse:

When i do manage to turn it on, the computer is extremely unresponsive. It will freeze doing ANYTHING (Opening folders/files, Opening/closing windows, Opening/closing Firefox, or Internet Explorer, Loading anything in firefox or internet explorer... Basically anything that a computer can do, will freeze it.)

It will freeze, and the window will "Not responding", and sometimes if i wait a good 30 seconds -... Read more

My computer has been BSODing for about a week now, I was getting IRQL_not_less_or_equal, and occasionally a page exceeder error or that, the main problem is that my computer has been running on normal mode now, but is very slow, and takes ages to respond, I have 4gb of RAM and it's never been this slow, also youtube videos are very slow, and freeze for like 3 seconds at a time then catch up, and I can't run games well, indicating a video driver issue maybe? Anyways, here's the Hijack this log

Hi,

Number of problems with my laptop but the main one now is that it constantly freezes (every 5 mins or so).
I wanted to post a log here from HijackThis but it says "your system denied write access to the Hosts".

Also both Malwarebytes & Avast! freeze the computer when I scan my computer for infections (this was happening a few months before the freezing every 5 mins started).

Really need to get this sorted now so I would appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Gubbo

My laptop has been freezing a lot lately. All programs freeze up, I get "Computer Not Responding" when I ctrl, alt, delete. Once I close the extra programs I don't need to run, I will try to open Internet Explorer or Yahoo Messenger but nothing happens. When I attempt to restart the computer, it will shutdown to the "Sony Vaio" screen saver and then sit there until I manually turn off the power switch. Also, usually after about an hour or so, I'll get the so called "Blue screen of death" and am forced to restart my computer.

I'm not really sure what the problem is and obviously it's stemming further than this, but here's a HijackThis log for good measure:

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Hello everyone,

I am a first time poster who is trying to help my friend with his computer. I believe he has been infected with some sort of malware, spyware, etc.

He has Avast Antivirus on his system. When his system boots up and connects to the internet, the realtime shield activity goes crazy. It is constantly scanning even before I even open a browser to access a web page.

After the bootup process is complete, I then disconected his internet signal and opened the shield activity in Avast. It indicated that there were already 5,500 items scanned in the webshield and 3,700 in the file shield.

He had indicated to me that a few weeks ago, Avast started popping up some blocked messages but his system was still running at a good pace. Application now though have come to a crawl as the scanner runs non-stop. The computer runs fine when you disconnect from the internet.

I haven't done anything yet as I didn't want to do anything wrong to screw it up more.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Eric

First of all, hello to everyone using this forum!

Here's the thing. A few days ago, I noticed something that my C partition was getting full, so I deleted a few programs and some unecessary files like some pictures etc. Along with the partition clogging I noticed that my computer boots up a lot slower than usual and some programs run slower as well. Another problem: I have a great internet connection, both fast and stable, and yet, since the problems began, connecting to sites has become a lot slower (even though it says my connection is perfect as usual) and I have to reconnect my internet in order to be able to browse for 5-10 minutes. I have scanned my computer using AVG 9.0 and I haven't found anything. I really hope someone could help me fast becouse this is becoming intolerable.

Here's a little example of whats happening with my hard drive: yesterday I cleared it out completely using Disk Cleanup and deleting some items manually. It had 1,66 GB of free space. Today when I started my computer it had 774 MB of free space. Approximately 2-3 minutes later it was on 773, even though I didn't do anything. I deleted the content of the temp folders, and I had 1,20 GB of free space. A few minutes later, it was on 1,17 GB.

Hope to hear from somebody soon, and thank you in advance.

Good evening!

I was directed to a suspected unsafe site about a week ago. Since then, I've noticed my computer being busy or loading when in the past it had sat idle (I run windows 7 so I get the busy circle right by my pointer for about 30-45 seconds during the happenings). This happens during all times of operation; web surfing, program running (iTunes, Media Monkey, Microsoft Word), and even sitting idle on the desktop. My "issue" occurs even after a fresh restart or power up. \

I'm suspecting I somehow downloaded some type of process that is always running and hogging resources from my system. I could however be paranoid. I want to confirm or dis-confirm my assumptions with some help here. I have posted my recent Hijack This log below. I've used Hijack This! Before, however It's been a year or so and my skills at identifying things are dull. Please, if you would take a look and let me know if I have anything that shouldn't be present in my log file. I greatly appreciate it!

Hi, recently my computer has been having an increased number of physical dumps and is running at a sluggish pace. I haven't installed any major new programs recently and usually just use the computer for internet and word processing so it should not be too much for it to handle. I currently use AVG, Kerio Personal Firewall, and counterspy as defense against malware/adware. These programs do not seems to be helping so I am hoping that you guys can help me isolate the problem or problems.

Right after you install a new OS and programs and do everything to setup your computer is it worthwhile to do a Hijackthis scan and save the logfile for comparison?

Urge

A:Running Hijackthis on a new computer

HijackThis only scans certain areas of a computer's system/registry to help diagnose the presence of undetected malware in known hiding places. Given the sophistication of malware hiding techniques used by attackers in today's environment, Hijackthis is limited in its ability to detect infection and generate a report outside these known hiding places. This limitation has made its usefulness nearly obsolete since a HijackThis log cannot reveal all the malware residing on a computer. As such, HijackThis has been replaced by other preferred tools like DDS, OTL and RSIT which provide comprehensive logs with specific details about more areas of a computer's system, files, folders and registry keys.

Hello there and welcome to Bleeping Computer's security forum. My name is David, I will be helping you with your log today. It is a good idea to print off these instructions. There is a possibility some of the instructions will need to be carried out where internet access is not available.A print out of the instructions would be a good reference to make sure you don't yet lost. Also, it is important that you complete the instructions in the right order, and that you don't miss out any steps. If you have any queries about the process or just general questions, just ask. Please set your system to show all files. Click Start, open My Computer, select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.Select the View Tab. The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to create "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. A:Hijackthis Log; Computer Running Slowly...

Hello Remykins, I dont see any malware in you log but yYou have two antivirus productes running. I (and MicroSoft, McAfee, and Symantec) do not recommend that you have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time. The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:1) False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.2) System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Therefore please go to add/remove in the control panel and remove two of these and leave one. You may choose which one you leave. AVG7 Antivirus or Trend Micro Antivirus Let me know if that improve the speed. ******************Your Java is out of date. A:Computer running VERY VERY SLOW... HIJACKTHIS LOG... plz help

I'm having the same problem you are zz. Go to your system info and see how much RAM is being recognized by your computer. Also, go into your BIOS on startup and see what it reads on "system memory". I am currently having the same problem. Talked to Dell and they are sending me a new motherboard and techinician but I don't know if that's the problem. I was sent two new stick's of memory but that wasn't the problem. It's showing I only have 64 instead of 256.

I had lovgate.x and downloader-er viruses so I don't know if it's still having an effect on that or not.

If anyone can help us with this problem it'd be greatly appreciated.

I think I may have the same problem, but first can you tell me what is "Hijackthis"?

I know my system has a virus, but symantic doesn't seem to be able to remove it. I have lost control of the web browser. Is there another way to set the home page for IE other than using tools -> options?

A:Hijackthis log . . .computer running slowly & popups

Welcome to TSG

You need to start your own threads so no one gets confused on what is what. I have ask for your post to be moved

Go to http://majorgeeks.com/download3155.html and download 'Hijack This!'.

First make a folder on your computer in my documents called Hijackthis and then Unzip it to that folder.
Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.

Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.

Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

My computer has been freezing up without much of anything running. I usually only have firefox open with facebook and this mostly happens in the battery saving power option. This did not happen when I first bought the laptop. I usually have to put my laptop on the highest power setting to avoid problems. My laptop doesn't seem to freeze as frequently after AVG put a file into the virus vault but it still happens. Can this just be my from the speed lost due to the lower power setting?
When I run hijackthis, a window opens stating that, "For some reason your system denied write access to the host file." I don't get this when I run hijackthis in safe mode. There are a lot of 023 entries that have @, unknown owner, and (file missing), and I have read that it is unusual for a legit file to contain these. Any way that I can get hijackthis to write to a host file? I'll post a hijackthis log upon request.

System:
Asus N35SV-A1 Windows 7 64-bit SP1.

A:Computer running slow, hijackthis problems

I found the reason for the hijackthis warning. I wasn't running it as an administrator. The shortcut on my desktop doesn't list that option.

Thanks for any help. I have a dell desktop that runs horribly. Extended boot times taking up to 5 mins, constant hard drive access, even when relatively dormant. Brought in to Best Buy for assessment & repair. Paperwork indicated multiple virus and trojan infection removed. Run AVG 2011, windows firewall and scan weekly with MalwareBytes and SpybotS&D. Performance of system improved for week after BestBuy services, but has reverted back to previous lousy performance. Suspect children accessing game site that may be compromising system, but scans not showing any viruses or trojans. See large number (15-20) of "mshta" processes running after system has been on for an afternoon. HiJackThis logs follow. Can anyone assist in interpreting this information and make recommendations as to possible remediation?

I have run every single spyware/adware/malware/greyware and anti-virus program I have and not 1 thing comes up except for the random cookies, etc. My computer is really bogging and it's fairly new. I am attaching my Hijackthis Log to make it easier to diagnose. Please any assistance would be great. I am supposed to be receiving 15mbps from my internet service and I am only receiving 5mbps. My cable company, Comcast, has assured me that there is nothing wrong on their end and that I should be receiving 15mbps, they've even come out and check the lines twice, finding nothing wrong. I feel there is something hiding in my computer that is making it this way considering Ad-Aware 2008, Spybot, CCleaner, Avira and whatever else never find anything wrong with my PC.

Hey, i was told this is the site to come to post a HijackThis log and get the best analysis...Hope you live up to expectations because i have a real problem.

My Dad's PC is running at 90%+ CPU usage when idle, doing nothing...This is making the PC horrendously slow and frankly unusable. I have tried all the ususal; Virus scanning with Norton, Adaware (all updated), and nothing. There's seems to be no obvious reason as to why the computer is behaving so erratically. If you want more info on this go to: http://computerforums.org/showthread...6&page=1&pp=15, the forum i usually use...We've had a go at it there with no avail!

Just really really don't want to format this PC as it has a great deal of business information which'd be a nightmare to back up.

Anyway, that's the short...Here's the hijack this log:

A:Computer Running at 90%+ CPU When Idle...HijackThis Log. All Help Appreciated!

Hi & Welcome to TSF, WiredChild.

My first guess when seeing a clean HJT is the Antivirus running. Norton is a notorious resource hog - and it's likely the cause to the slow of this computer. However - we'll take a look at the system first with an online virus scan - and see what comes of it. There may be something not showing in HJT.

Please download CleanUp! and install it. Do not run it yet!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:Click "Options..."
Set the slider to "Standard CleanUp!"
Uncheck the following:Delete Newsgroup cache
Delete Newsgroup Subscriptions
Scan local drives for temporary files

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

WARNING - CleanUp! will delete all files and folders contained within Temporary Directories. If you knowingly have items you would like to keep that are stored in these locations; Move Them Now!!!

Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component. The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to: Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:Extended

Scan Options:Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK & have it scan My C... Read more

Hello,

the computer that I am using is running very slowly.
I ran Ad-aware SE and it detected lots of critical objects which I promptly removed. I then rebooted the computer and then ran ad-aware again and there is still malware present, but a lot less. Yet when connecting to the Internet via IE most of the objects re-appear.

So after running ad-ware, I ran Hijackthis and got the following log:

Hi! First wanted to say thanks. This is an awesome site! Without it, I would not have found out about SpyBot and HijackThis! Thanks again!

Here goes--
My computer (especially the Internet) started running a lot slower in the past couple of days. I ran SpyBot and cleaned up cookies, etc. Then I ran HijackThis for a Log File to post on here.

Also, when I turn on my computer and log into my 2nd account (I have two on here), it takes forever to cycle through. I know I have a lot of stuff in my StartUp menu and have disabled all the ones that I can figure out how to.
I have to disable a bunch of them Individually each time I log in. Talk about a pain!!
I have yet to figure out how to disable the rest of them. Any help would be appreciated!!

Here is a log file of my system right when I log into the account. This is after I ran SpyBot and cleaned the system.

A:Computer & Internet running slow - already ran SpyBot and HijackThis--Help!

I do know that Norton Utilities can slow ya' down dramatically. If you look at your list, it is pronounced throughout. Maybe you could try disabling some of the features temporarily (leave antivirus on) to see if they are making the difference.

As for stopping other programs from starting up automatically when you power up, most programs have an option for this somewhere. (usually in options or tools, ect.) Look for something like: Start with Windows, or Run at Startup, & select not to. This is the first way I suggest, but there are others. Be sure to only stop the ones you don't want to run all the time. (most) I turn off just about everything except antivirus & firewall, & then I turn on as I need to use them.

Another thing I suggest, & actually before anything, is to try to find what is hurting most. Try to just shutdown a running program 1 @ a time, until you find what's draining you. A good peice of info to have in your hand.

Hi. My computer has been acting strange lately. A few times it has crashed and shown a blue screen with white writing for a second but never long enough for me to read it/write it down. I ran ad-aware and spy bot in safe mode a few days ago and they found a few things but not much. About three weeks ago it was acting similarly. When I would open task manager the CPU usage would bounce between the 2-3% range and 100%. An IT guy took a look at my computer and pretty much just had me run ad aware and spybot. He also made it so that a few thing don't start right at start up and had me get rid of window blinds. It was running fine for a weeks but then the crashing started. Once after it crashed windows told me that it had recovered from a serious error. The log posted in this post was done when hjt was on my desktop. I've since moved it to its own folder and the log from a second scan is in my second post. Let me know if you can help! Thanks.

Hello,Pasting in contextual information from another topic ~ OBHere is a little history.March 30th A Windows problem first became evident as the CPU spiked to 100% and on reboot, Windows would not boot up stating it could be a hardware or software problem. At that time I thought it was the motherboard and had it swapped out because the error I had was different but the symtoms were the same prior to the system not booting.April 6th got the laptop back from HP and put in my HD to boot from. It worked for a day and then the CPU spiking issue was found, only this time with no failure to boot.Since that date I have tried to isolate the issue but to no avail. I have tried various restore dates and images, as well as manipulating the data on the master image (delete WoW before issue is active and reinstall it from scratch). None of it has worked. My latest attempt was to restore from my oldest image available [the other night]. It was left restoring and hasn't been tested yet. I am not sure if the "issue" will be visible on it. I tested one last night 3-4 weeks later (Feb 16th date) and it was but apparently never became active for close to 2 months...End of added material. ~ OBThis is in reference to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic219056.html and http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/218815/cpu-runs-at-100-constantly/.I have attached the log files that you requested. A:CPU running at 100% constantly

Hello All,

I wanted to provide an update to this. I blew away the image last night hoping to restore from the factory settings and get it up and running. That worked for about an hour before the symptoms came back. That normally leads me to think that there is something on my home network that is passing a virus along before I can patch windows, but to add further confusion to this topic, the same situation has occurred on my work laptop. Both are HP NC6400. That is the only similarity. The work laptop is running XP and my home machine Vista. I had both machines rebuilt and the work one without ever stepping into my house exhibited the same issue on a fresh build. Is it possible that there is something resident in the BIOS of these machines, or that a Virus screwed up the CPU's?

It seems I have had some lag of late, and I thought it was due to a loose connection in my CD-RW....but since I have completely removed the CD-RW, as it seemed to stop the lag for a day or so, i continue to get the same thing over again...CPU constantly running resulting in lag

It isnt spyware/or a virus, as I've check into that pretty thoroughly...

To me, it sounds like the CPU is constantly running and is somewhat loud during gaming...causing lag...
Anyone's help would be appreciated?

Hi, i just got my Lenovo 501S-14IKB today. Everything is working fine, its super fast in comparison to my old laptop. Only problem is, that the fan seems to run all the time and is making noticable noise. the temperature of the cpu aer all in the range of 20 only the hd was at 34. so normally that are not temperatures where cooling is needed. If i let the notebook idle for 2 min it goes dead silent but starts again even if i just scroll down a homepage. And even if i start programms whicht take more resources, the fan does not get louder. Is there anyway to controll the fan? Help would be really appreciated, Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english

Hi,

I have two computers, one computer runs smoothly at a cpu level of around 10%, and has less RAM, hard drive space, and runs more cpu related tasks, it has a duel core 2.4, my other computer, however, runs at 100% all the time, no matter how many processes I kill in tskmgr.exe, it runs incredibly slow, it has a duel core 2.2.

I've ran malwarebytes, CCleaner, registry cleaner, defrag, and it still runs at 100%, it didn't used to do this, it's happened for at least two months, but it keeps getting worse.

A:S41 - Fan constantly running

That is usually caused by the vents that allow air to be drawn over the CPU heat sink being clogged with dust   Once the CPU gets hot, the system will slow down, and eventually just shut down to protect itself from a meltdown.     I would try using a vacuum cleaner hose and a can of computer cleaning air to blow/suck out the dust and see if that helps.     I that still fails, you may have to remove the base cover (see page 34 of the Lenovo S41/U41 Hardware Maintenance Manual) and clean the fan manually.     In rare case the heat sinks fail, or the thermal heatsink compund beween the CPU and the heat sink cracks and fails to transfer heat to the heat sink efficiently, mut most likely you will find the system is full of dust. Lenovo used to have a fan cleaning program in the Lenovo Energy Managment software, but I think it removed it for some reason.    It is supposed to run the fan backwards and forwards at high speed to try to clean the dust, but if it is really plugged, it probably will not work. Good luck. Lenovo S41/U41 S41-35 S41-70 S41-75 U41-70 Hardware Maintenance Manualhttps://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_s41-35_s41-70_s41-75_u41-70_hmm_201503.pdf

My CPU usage is always running at 50-55%, which it wasn't doing a week ago. When I check the "Processes" tab under Task Manager, there isn't any application/browser/programs that are taking up that cpu usage. I also ran a virus check with TrendMicro and it came up with nothing. I'd like to be able to know what is running in the background and stop it. It's making work related programs and browsing more slow.

Here is my Hijackthis log:

I have a Compaq Presario PC, windows XP W/SP2 installed. Model # SR1503WM. The CPU constantly runs whether computer is being used or not. I have checked the task manager and it shows CPU as 0% and compaq connections agent as the only application running. I have 1.24GB of RAM installed. I have Norton installed and AVG and have checked for spyware and computer seems to be clean of any. The unit seems to be cool as it is not hot when felt or air from it, and also is free of dust clogging vents and inside of unit. What could be the problem. It is 2 years old this month. The noise runs me crazy after a while, thanks!

In Windows Task Manager, under the Performance Tab, my CPU is showing at 100% permanently. I've tried closing down some of the high runner processes but nothing makes any difference.

I've run several cleaners (RegCure, CCleaner etc) but again nothing makes any difference.
My PC is constantly freezing, hanging, sputtering and is becoming unusable.

I also noticed that when I manage to perform a normal shutdown, everything goes normally BUT my screen stays on, and the power button light remains on, but I can hear the drives and fan stopping. I then have to perform a manual powerdown by holding the on/off button for about 8-10 seconds.

My machine is a 3.06 GHz Pentium 4 Compaq Presario, 18 month old, O/S is Windows XP Home Edition, with SP 2.
Anyone out there have any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed that my notebook PC (DELL Inspiron 700m) hard drive has been running more or less 100% of the time the machine has been powered on. Task Mgr/Processes indicate that "msiexec.exe" is running at 99 and CPU usage is at 98-100%.
At the same time, I have also had several incidents of "about:blank" pages in IE (6.0) opeing themselves automatically. During a 30 minute period last night a total of 8 pages opened (I had 8 IE windows opened automatically).

1) are these two issues related?

2) I have checked that "Windows Installer" in Systems is set to "Manual".

3) I also try to turn off the msiexec.exe in "Processes", but it turns it self on within seconds again.

4) I have run multiple spyware software applications trying to find and delete the cause of the "about:blank" problem, which I think is a browser hijack, but to no use. I've run Webroot's "SpySweeper", SpyCatcher and F-Secure's "BlackLight" and Trend-Micro's online "HouseCall". Each of them found malware, but didn't solve the problem.

5) I am using Microsoft OneCare with Defender as my antivirus and malware protection.

I'm at a loss and unless someone has a solution I don't see any other way but to reformat in order to solve the problem.

Please help, someone.

Tor-Eddie

I am using Windows xp Home Edition, which recently started running VERY slowly. Task Manager tells me that iexplore is running even though I never use IE. On a couple of occasions, IE has spontaneously opened to unfamiliar webpages. I downloaded HijackThis and have begun the process, but I need help deciphering logs and such. I don't want to make a false move. Thanks in advance.

Looking in the task list, I found services.exe, svchost.exe and wscript.exe all floating around 15-20% of CPU capacity. Ran Malwarebytes just to see if it noticed anything...found a trojan..

Searched the forum here and found nothing on this one. As I suspected, Malwarebytes was unable to remove it and the trojan has restarted after my system restarted. I'll keep searching.

I am running WinXP Pro SP3 and I have had an ongoing issue with my rundll32.exe suddenly spiking to 50% and then fluctuating around there. I use all the usual suspects (Spybot, CC Cleaner, Avira Antivir, Malwarebytes) and my system is clean of viruses and malware. I have prepared a HJT log file, a task manager screenshot and a system32 screenshot. The rundll32.exe icon is not the standard white icon or icon with a symbol, but looks more like a piece of paper. Is this normal for this icon?I will provide any other information to anyone who can provide me some assistance.Thank you in advance for you time and advice.

Have taken delivery of a new desktop pc and it is ok except for the fact that the fan cranks up to (a noisy) full speed when pc switched on and carries on like this until it is turned off.
I queried this with supplier's help desk but they assured me that this is normal?
Should I just accept that it is (normal)?

Have run Spybot, CCleaner, Malwarebytes AntiMalware and defragged - no problems found. As of the last week or so the cpu load is almost always 50%, sometimes it flicks up or down 1 or 2%. Only other problem I seem to be having is that Windows media player network sharing has not been working with my xbox 360. It tries to access the connection and keeps timing out. Is there any other info I can give to help?Hello Last 10 Posts [ In reverse order ]jarofpants,We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. Please do not multiple post here, as that only pushes you further down the queue and causes confusion to the staff. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible.Thank you for understanding.Regards,The weatherman (Moderator)
