ZoneAlarm error messages-need a firewall

Q: ZoneAlarm error messages-need a firewall

Looking for a firewall on here, I found a link to ZoneAlarm. When I tried to download it, I got the error messages: "Could not load the DLL library C:\Windows\system\kernel32.dll. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format." I clicked ok, then got the following: "Could not load the DLL library C:\Windows\temp\vsutil.dll. One of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found." Now what? Is there a way to fix this, or another firewall I could try? Thanks for the help. You all have been wonderful in dishing it out to me lately .

A: ZoneAlarm error messages-need a firewall

Well, I did some hunting of my own, and for anyone else who needs a firewall, I got one from this url: http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads34.html. It downloaded and installed with no problem.

My firewall (NIS 2003) has been generating error messages lately, the

“xxx has caused an error in yyy. xxx will now close”

kind of messages.
I just get them once in a while, and the program seems to be working fine in spite of these errors.

But, do the messages mean that the program has somehow gone bad and it’s not protecting me the way it should any more?

I’ve ran several virus, trojan and port scans and they all came clear. I’d hate to have a false sense of security, though. Would it be better to just remove it and reinstall it?

What’s your advice? …..

Thanks!

A:Comodo Firewall v7 vs. ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall 2015 v13

The best protection is based upon the user's habits, so both could give some users the same protection level.
You could not apply this to all users since some are reckless and neither one would be able to provide protection.

Comodo Firewall has HIPS which is more likely to flag more false positives which most inexperienced users would not know how to deal with. Of coarse if the user utilizes UAC, then HIPS would not be needed.

ZoneAlarm is more user friendly, uses Behavior protection instead of HIPS which will not flag as many false positives.
ZoneAlarm is more compatible with programs.

For myself Windows Firewall provides excellent protection along with UAC with no issues at all.

Just a note: Never trust review sites or testing sites, they will install a product use it for about an hour or less then write a review.
You need to test a product for at least 30 days in order to see how it works and if any potential problems occur.

Enjoy!!

I just now D/Led Zone Alarm Firewall,

And ran it from the file, It did not state that it was a firewall, it stated that it was the ZA suite, and just sat there basically without really downloading it displayed one digit in the window but did not go any further.

I had problems and had to cancel one of the suite before, . .

Is this a hard to download and Install Program or is it just me, . . I need a better firewall, . .

but this does not seem to be working.

Can anyone suggest anything ?

They call it a suite because besides the firewall, it includes an email scanner, and monitors your virus protection (for a year-free)

I recently subscribed to cable connection. With the cable ZoneAlarm Suite was included. My problem is this ---- In program control under programs there are two columns named ACCESS and SERVER. When first using all the columns have a blue question mark in them. When operating ZoneAlarm sends an alarm to either allow or deny access. If you check the little box and click allow, the question mark changes to a green check mark.Well I have been using this firewall for three weeks but the check marks do not stay. The next time I boot up I have to go through the firewall alert status again because all the check marks have changed to question marks. What am I missing. Are not my selections supposed to remain permanent once they have been set?Driving me nuts!!!!!!!

Have latest version Zonealarm Pro installed; at grc.com each port is stealthed except port 113 (ident), indicated as closed. realize that port used to establish a connection with another website, however should be able to stealth port 113; a function of my ISP? or can I stealth port in some manner?

Thanks

A:Firewall/Zonealarm

Q: Why is port 113 open? (#225)
A: Port 113 is often left visible by firewalls such as Black Ice Defender, Norton, Defender), since 113 is the IDENT port.
IDENT is used when you connect to mail servers, or to IRC servers, to find out "who" is using the service. With IDENT filtered, your ISP mail server (unlikely) or IRC server (likely) may refuse your request or take a long time to respond as it waits for a closed/open response.

It is possible to remove IDENTD as showing up as a port, by reconfiguring your firewall to over-ride the default rules. As above, if IDENTD is filtered in this way, IRC and mail servers may not work properly.

You can also decide that IDENTD is safe, since just having it visible does not mean there is anything that can be exploited on your side, and live with the less than "perfect" results.

Hello,

I have been using the CA personal firewall still, in spite that I am not using their anti-virus suite anymore, but just because I could Never uninstall it, it never let me do it. I mean, I can't find it on my computer anymore but the Windows Security Panel is still showing that I am using the CA as my personal firewall. I tried to install ZoneAlarm but apparently, it never worked out or, I have been wondering, maybe the ZA firewall program has overwritten the CA, and running since well but under the old name of CA, would that be possible ?...

Otherwise, if I have effectively still CA running on my computer, can I ever uninstall it for good (and replace it by ZA) or it is not worth because anyway both are working well ?

Hope someone can help :-)

A:Use Zonealarm Instead Of Ca Personal Firewall

Perhaps the best solution would be to reinstall The suite from CA. Reinstall it to the same directory as the first time. I don't know the version you have. Then uninstall it again as something went wrong.
Do you have Icons in the sytem tray for either ZA or CA ?
If so Right click and close/stop either or both, so they are not running.

Uninstall from Control Panel Add/Remove Programs.
After highlighting CA suite there, click the Remove button.
When the Product options window shows,Be sure to check ALL the boxes.
Click Uninstall
Reboot the computer.

Check and see what the Security Panel says now.
It should be gone and install ZA.

I have a computer with Win2000 as O/S, which is connected to a
workgroup of my office (5 different computers hooked up).

I installed the free ZoneAlarm firewall, and have security setting at
default. I am trying to access other computers within my workgroup,
and with the firewall active, it is not accessible at all.

When I turn off the firewall program completely, it then allows me
to access other computers. All the computers are connected to outside
internet as well, and there have been no problem so far until I installed
the firewall on my computer.

There is one more computer with the same ZoneAlarm firewall, but that
one does not display the same symptoms and it has Win XP home edition
as its O/S.

I want to have the firewall activated all the time, and hence I am faced
with a problem I don't know how to get around.

Is there a setting in the ZoneAlarm that will allow me to access other
computers in my workgroup without turning it off? PLEASE HELP!!!

Check Point's ZoneAlarm division plans to announce that it will give away free licenses to its ZoneAlarm Pro firewall software on "Patch Tuesday," or Tuesday, Oct. 13.

The free giveaway will take place on line for 24 hours, at ZoneAlarm's Web site here.

ZoneAlarm Pro is a subset of ZoneAlarm's security services, a step up from its free firewall but less protection than its ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 2010 suite offers.

ZoneAlarm Pro includes the two-way firewall, download monitoring, anti-phishing protection, plus a couple of advanced features: OSFirewall, which looks for changes in the OS that might have been missed by an antivirus program, and credit monitoring with the three major credit bureaus. The latter feature typically comes with a year's subscription.

I'm wondering, is the hardware firewall reliable enough that I can I go ahead and get rid of ZoneAlarm (since it is such a resource hog)? Or is it better to keep using both? Or is the difference so miniscule as to make no difference?

ZoneAlarm Free Firewall continues to be one of the leading security solutions on the market, so today the application received a new update that?s supposed to enhance the protection offered to users.

ZoneAlarm Free Firewall 13 comes with enhanced stability, minor UI tweaks, but also with a new privacy toolbar that offers Internet Explorer 11 support. This means that full Windows 8.1 compatibility is also being offered, so you can install the app even if you?ve already made the move to Microsoft?s new OS version.

The feature lineup remains unchanged and includes a two-way firewall that blocks malicious applications from sending your data out to the Internet, but also advanced download protection to stop dangerous files from reaching your computer and an advanced firewall to stop attacks which anti-virus solutions cannot cope with.

The privacy and security toolbar also offers enhanced protection, offering site checking, do not track, Facebook privacy scan, and private browsing.

As you could easily guess, the application continues to be available free of charge and in addition to Windows 8.1, it also works quite flawlessly on all the other Windows versions still supported by Microsoft.

I run a dual-boot (XPx86/7x64) with a slew of legacy and newer games on XP. I kept XP because I still revisit the legacies and I did not want to go through the hassle of reinstalling all of the others on Win7.

I run the free Comodo Suite on Win7 but on the XP, I run ZA v.7 because I suffered the infamous ZA/ISP conflict with v. 8. After that I stopped upgrading and no longer follow ZA since my XP surfing is limited to known/safe sites, primarily game patches.

So I will give v. 9.2 a try.

I'm guessing that this is a re-installation? To stop True Vector Service type services.msc into "RUN" and <OK> Scroll down to True Vector, one click it, and up on the left select "STOP this service." That should do it. It may be necessary to stop the vsmon.exe process in Taskmanager as well. Check for that after stopping the "Service." I recently downloaded a trial of ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall 7.0. I liked the product very much but it has knackered my beloved BitComet 0.91! Curses!

Since I've installed ZA firewall BitComet has been crippled (it usually downloads at around 70-80kb/sec max.) it's max DL rate is now around 10kb/sec.

1. Initially, I tinkered with ZA setup to see if BitComet was not trusted/authorised to access the web but everything that the ZA control panel showed me was positive i.e. confirming to me that BC had full access to the web.

2. In desperation I uninstalled ZA which did not fix the problem.

3. I have resorted to restoring my PC to an earlier point, pre-ZA - still no joy.

4. I have DL'ed most recent BC - still no result.

I guess ZA has somehow blocked the required ports that BC used to use, and now I'm left with rubbish DL speeds. Please help!

I bought this computer from a neighbor. It was installed with CA's (Computer Associate) suite which
was Pest Patrol, AV anti virus, firewall and a spam detector. The program expired after one year and
I don't want to pay to continue using it. I went to control panel and deleted all the CA EZtrust programs.
I then had to cleanup anything left under program folders and any shortcuts remaining. I attempted to download
the free Zone Alarm firewall and it said I still have EZTrust firewall installed on my computer. I have tried it
at least three times. I gave up on that and downloaded Comodo Firewall and it said I have Zonealarm installed
on my computer but it let me download and run it. I downloaded the 32-bit option for XP-SP. After a restart when
the system came back up everything was frozen - couldn't move the pointer and couldn't perform a ctrl-alt-delete
function. Had to power down manually. Tried this twice. Computer was useless at this stage. I had to go to safe
mode and completely remove Comodo. Computer came back up fine. So right now I have had to turn on the
Windows firewall which is nearly useless for security.

I downloaded the AVG 75 free virus program to replace the EZTrust antivirus program but I am stuck without a
proper firewall. I don't need any replacement for Pest Patrol or anti-spam but I really need an adequate firewall. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In cleaning up a mess over on the "HJT log" forum the advisor who helped me out noted that I'm only using the built-in Windows firewall, and that I really need a firewall that can monitor outgoing as well as incoming traffic. Based on my experience, I'm inclined to (belatedly) agree with him. He suggested either ZoneAlarm or PC Tool Firewall Plus.

I'm leaning towards ZoneAlarm, based on what I've heard in the past, but I would like to know if anyone has any experience in running the ZoneAlarm Free firewall with Avast! Antivirus 4.8 (free version). Will they work well together without conflicts? A quick check on Google was inconclusive.

I have a question regarding ZoneAlarm Free Firewall and a clean Windows 7 Pro install I did back in January of this year on an Asus N53 series laptop. I have been using ZoneAlarm Free firewall for many years with my Xp systems and decided to continue using it with my Windows 7 install. I am now reading that Zone Alarm has become (has been) very resource heavy and that the Windows 7 firewall is much improved over previous versions of Windows firewalls. So my question is, Is Zone Alarm still as resource heavy (version as of 1/2013 to present) as it has been in the past or has it improved?

Zone Alarm used to be a great firewall but I've heard it's nearly impossible to completely uninstall. I was thinking of uninstalling Zone Alarm and using the Windows 7 firewall or Comodo instead. Opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A:Windows 7 Pro and Zonealarm Free Firewall

Hello slipstream55 and welcome to Seven Forums.

Just my personal opinion FWIW. I've been using the built-in Windows 7 firewall without any problems. It's definitely more robust and user configurable than previous versions but like beauty, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Others may totally dislike the 7 firewall.

If you want to remove ZoneAlarm the do make an uninstall tool.

Or you could get the 30-day trial version of Revo Uninstaller which should also work.

Hello,

I have a cable modem and I use ZoneAlarm as my Firewall. I recently went to Steve Gibson's web site (Gibson Research - grc.com) and used the security test program called 'Shields Up' which probes ports etc.

Everything was great except port 135 (RPC). It said this port cant be closed and said to get a fire wall program.

I just started using ZoneAlarm, how do I block this port?

Thanks for help

Seeing lots of thumbs-up on this site for ZoneAlarm, but doesn't it contain its own antivirus function? I'm quite happy with easy EZTrust and wish to avoid any conflicts--have post-traumatic stress disorder from past negative McAfee experience--any way to get ZoneAlarm sans antivirus component? (I'm on cable modem, Win ME, have lots of memory.) Opinions much appreciated!

A:EZTrust antivirus vs ZoneAlarm firewall?

I think the Antivirus component of ZoneAlarm that you are referring to is MailSafe, which protects against vbs viruses hiding in attachments. It should be compatible with, if not complimentary to E-Trust's protections.

I was wondering if anyone could help about this. I've had no luck on the ZoneAlarm forums. ZoneAlarm firewall will not update when I click on 'update' - I just get 'error'. This can be temporarily solved by clean installing, and I'll be able to update for a few days, but then I'll start getting the error message again.

As usual any help really appreciated.

Hi !! just wondering if it was OK to disable my Norton Firewall which the updates are due to expire & try the FREE Zonealarm before hand ??

Any help is appreciated.

A:Disable Norton Firewall To try Zonealarm ??

Sure. Just don't run the two simultaneously.
Disable NPF, then go into the options, and uncheck "Start as Windows starts".

Only then install ZA.

It doesn't matter whether you have 12 firewalls installed (although I don't recommend you do... ), as long as you don't run more than 1.

Hi BC,
Haven't been here for awhile because all going very well. I am a longtime user of Firefox, Zonealarm free firewall, Avast & Malwarebytes.

A few days ago I upgraded Firefox to 4.0.1, mainly because it was said to have better security.

In looking over my list of extensions, there is mention of the Zonealarm security toolbar (3.3.5.1--latest) with no noted problem. However, further down the list is a warning that Zonealarm Security Engine (1.5.265.2--latest) is incompatible with this version of Firefox and is disabled.

Does this mean that when I am using Firefox, my Zonealarm firewall is completely shut off? If not, what part of the firewall is still functioning?

My main plan if there are no other suggestions is to go back to the prior version of Firefox.

Suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Satellite Internet (through router/WAN)
AVG Antivirus (free) daily updated
Zonealarm free version 7.0.362.000 regularly updated
We just set up the home network recently due to a change in ISP and the possibility to connect with multiple computers at the same time.

I ran the Shields UP test, Common Ports and except HTTP, NetBios,HTTPS, MSFTDS, which show in Stealth, everything else is listed as open.

What can I do to close all the other ports, or hide them from intruders?

Thanks.

Hello everyone! I'm posting to check if any of you may help me..

I installed a while ago ZoneAlarm Free Firewall and since then i've been having lots of issues with my League of Legends Client. When a new game is about to start, it won't. It just doesn't. Now if i go to the firewall and turn it off, then i can play online. Alright, you may be thinking "just add an exception". I did. League of Legends opens way too many processes for the client and i added every single of them, it still happens. Sometimes i can enter to the game, sometimes i can't..
Any ideas?

Hi,

I am using the free ZoneAlarm Firewall on my PC, and was happy for quite a while. Until recently, when I routinely checked the permissions of programs inside ZoneAlarm. I found, that a number of programs I previously denied Internet access, had now full Internet access!

I changed back their permission to no access. And a week later, I saw they again had full access. This frightening experience repeated several times, since then.

I suspect two things:
- ZoneAlarm published information how to alter its Firewall for installing software
- a new type of Trojan Horse or Virus

Exact version of ZA used:
9.2.058.000

Settings in ZA program control:
Program Settings: Medium, Smart Defense: Auto

OS used:
Windows XP Home, SP3

Antimalware used:
Ad Aware v.8.3.6

Antivirus used:
AVG AntiVirus, v.9.0.872

Is it possible for Software to alter ZoneAlarm's settings? Are here persons who made the same experience?

Hi

I Am thinking of replacing the firewall of windows for zonealarm free firewall. Why? For improving, I suppose.
The truth is that the my computer is OK, when it had it with Online Armor free, the only thing that it was noticing is that it was late a few seconds more in starting, nothing more.
ZoneAlarm's idea is because it is an excellent firewall that does not have HIPS, according to Pcmag it is the best firewall of the market... I would like so much to know your opinions and that you were helping me to choose the best option.

Thank you friends.

OK, so i got computer associates eTrust internet security suite. everything but the firewall went on fine. I had zonealarm, and you're supposed to uninstall ZA first, I did, but it still didn't work. ZA was still in my registry. So I reinstalled ZA and then uninstalled it, no good.

So I search the internet for how to get rid of ZA. I find some stuff and so I follow the directions and delete a lot of stuff that was hidden in my system files (doesn't uninstall mean remove from my computer?). I can not remove Zone Labs from my registry. I have downloaded Jvpowertools and stuff like that, but it won't leave.

Now I can't install the eTrust firewall or Zonealarm. Did I delete too much, I only deleted things created by ZA. I really don't like not having a firewall (only windows).

I have a copy of the error message that pops up when I try to install the eTrust Firewall.

A:Firewall Problem(s) (Zonealarm and eTrust)

So ZA was still installed when you tried installing eTrust? Try removing eTrust from Add/Remove Programs. Remove any ophaned folders in the Program Files also.
Try to uninstall ZA via Add/Remove Programs. Was this a paid version of ZA or the freebee?

ZoneAlarm Free v 8.0.065.000
Windows Firewall - OFF

I've been using ZoneAlarm Free Edition Firewalls for years and just upgraded to their latest version, 8.0.065, yesterday and noticed that I'm carrying many old program entries that I feel might be adding unnecessary time to the computer startup time during a reboot or restart.

So, my question is this...

What if...I deleted ALL the entries listed in "Programs" and rebooted/restarted my system?

Wouldn't ZA simply ask me permissions for the programs that would be starting and then as I open new programs/applications ZA would ask me permissions at that time thus creating a new Program list of ONLY active Programs I use?

Are there any listed Programs that I shouldn't delete?

To me it sounds logical and ZA would simply act as it would if I were installing it brand new but I'm just making sure no harm could come from doing this.

Thanks

For the anti-viral program, I think I will use AVG free, for anti-malware I will be using ad-aware free edition and Spybot - Search and Destroy, and for my firewall I am going to use Zone Alarms firewall. DO you think that this is a good combination of security or should I change them. I am sure that AVG Free and Spybot -S&D have real-time protection which is pretty much vital.

I need some information about ZoneAlarm firewall.

Will it block spyware/adware from getting on my system? Right now I have Spyware Doctor, but it does not prevent adware from getting on my system. It only can remove them after I have been infected. It does not block adware/spyware.

This is why I am looking into the ZoneAlarm firewall. I want to stop the problem before it gets on my system.

Thanks everyone.
Scott.

A:ZoneAlarm Firewall..Adware/spyware..

I use Webroot Spysweeper, and it has active protection. But its not free.

A firewall's duty is to block unrequested packets from entering the system. Some spyware is installed during surfing, and for those kind, the firewall will do nothing about them since you requested (surfed to) that site.

A freebie solution is to use the Firefox browser and use an add-in called noscript. Firefox doesnt use ActiveX and noscript blocks javascript from executing. The whole idea is that some spyware are ActiveX modules and rely on bugs in javascript to install.

Looks like others are having some problems also, but I downloaded and installed 3 updates this morning: KB951748, KB951978, and KB890830 and then Zone Alarm began blocking all incoming and outgoing including my dsl connection to at&t. I tried to do things in ZA, but nothing worked until I did a system restore back to yesterday.

Just in case it wasn't the updates but a fluke, I installed them again and same thing happened; ZA wouldn't even let SpySweeper or AVG free check for updates. So I did another system restore back to yesterday.

How can I figure out which one of these updates is messing up ZA? Is there a way to download and install the updates one at a time?

How do you let ZA know about this? I'd really like to do the updates.

Thanks for your help,

Got this from another forum.

A friend at another forum I frequent wrote these tips for me to help me
increase the security of my ZoneAlarm Pro firewall, and so I am thinking
that some of you guys might find it usefull as it turns the humble
ZoneAlarm Pro into a force to be reckoned with. Actually, I think it was
written not just for me, but for anyone (newbie or advanced computer
user who hasn't tried this firewall before - but if you already run it
and have yours configured the way you want it then you may not want to
make any changes.

Configuring The Standard Settings

Launch ZoneAlarm Pro and click to highlight the "Overview" tab on the
left hand side . In the pane that appears on the right hand side click
the "Preferences" tab and in the section "Check for updates" check
"Manually".
In the "General" section you can also configure ZoneAlarm to load at
start up which is advisable because this software is your first line
defence against uninvited invasion of your computer by a whole gamult of
virues, trojans, spyware, adware and bots! Virus checking software does
have its place but remember that prevention is always better than cure!

ZoneAlarm Pro's program control is automatically configured. When you
run it for the first time it will ask on behalf of programs installed on
your system for permission to access the Internet. Your Browser will be
the first to request - just tick the "Yes" box and the &quo... Read more

In case anyone is interested, I can detail the process of how to do so. It is not for the install and simply make it work crowd. It's a bit of a process, you have to do this, that and the other thing, but once it is working, it is set and forget and all is well.

So yup, if anyone is seriously interested, I'll add instructions here by request.

Hello,

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 (courtesy of a new laptop) and I've experienced a Metropolitan Police virus, really awful.

I managed to track down the cause of the infection and have removed it, run various scans and my machine is clean. However, I'm seriously considering formatting the drive and starting afresh.

Over and above this, I'm considering possibly changing firewalls to something more industrial strength. For my purposes - home use primarily with no file-sharing applications - would the Windows Firewall be sufficient?

Thank you.

A:Is the Windows Firewall sufficient or should I use ZoneAlarm or equiv?

Most here would tell you it is sufficient.

The tone of your post ("something more industrial strength") implies that you are suspicious of the built-in firewall.

So, why live with that? Particularly since you have apparently become infected after using the built-in firewall.

Even if most people tell you the built-in firewall is sufficient, your suspicions will likely remain.

There are numerous alternatives.

I'm not saying an alternative will be more protective, but you will likely feel better about your protection---which is at least equally important. It's nice to feel safe, even when you aren't.

Upgraded FF from 43.xx to 47.xx, because it was bugging me. My firewall, good old ZoneAlarm, which has happily gone through every FF upgrade for years, has suddenly decided to not recognize the new version.

Didn't get a 'this program has changed' prompt after the upgrade and a reboot, and at this point, if ZA is on, Firefox flat does not work; it won't pull a connection and the firewall doesn't recognize that it's trying. I've manually removed the Firefox entries from ZA's program list, and it still isn't picking them up. Manually added firefox.exe and the plugin container to the list with all green allows, nothing.

And yet, the instant I disable ZA, everything works. Google and the FF KB have been spectacularly useless, and the only thing that even sounds remotely plausible is from the ZoneAlarm support forums like five years ago; removing the ZA database in safe mode and forcing it to rebuild a clean allow/deny list.

Anyone have -any- other thoughts before I go through with this?

I can't seem to configure ZoneAlarm 7 to allow incoming connections, using utorrent.

I was using PC-Cillin before this and had the same problem. The thing is, before using PC-Cillin I was using ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 6 and had no problems at all.

At the time I'd allow utorrent full access to the "Internet Zone" and "Trusted Zone" on "Program Control" and everything was set. Now, as I'm using the basic ZoneAlarm Firewall (v7) side by side with Kaspersky Antivirus, I'm having problems.

As before, utorrent has full access to the "Internet Zone" and "Trusted Zone". However, when using utorrent the firewall is reporting many blocked access attempts on inbound data.

I've noticed that in "Program Control", the setting is at "Medium". This means "Programs must ask for Internet Access and server rights." This is what I would have had it set at, when using ZoneAlarm Security Suite 6. However, when I have brought the slide down to "Low" setting which means "Program is in learning mode", utorrent has increased speeds.
The firewall however still reports many blocked access attempts.

In "Alerts and Logs" I can see many IP address's trying to send packets via TCP and UDP through my chosen port, but they're blocked EVERY time
I can't see anywhere on ZoneAlarm how to allow incoming connections through my chosen port... Read more

A:Having trouble configuring the new ZoneAlarm Firewall (v7) with utorrent...help??

I think I've found my problem guys! From the uTorrent Forum website I found this: http://userland.info/stuff/Bittorrent-Poison-Lavigne.jpg

It's a printscreen of someone's Azureus client showing the same problem as I have.

In fact if you guys have time to spread the word at this link it discusses my problem: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=23346

How is the ZoneAlarm Free Firewall these days ? is it worth to try it ? Can't find any real test recent.

ZoneAlarm Free Firewall - Personal Computer Firewall Software

A:ZoneAlarm Firewall free these days? Is it worth trying it?

I used it half a year ago on max settings for several days or weeks. It worked OK bundled with some other security progs. I like it has a module monitoring programs. I think I'll try it this year again.

I'd like to look at recent tests too.

I once tried using ZoneAlarm free and Avast on a Windows98 computer. It worked well but I haven't used it long enough to be sure.

I now have a chance to try ZoneAlarm free and Avast free on Windows2000 computer.
I'm uninstalling McAffee firewall and on-access scan (hope it does not leave traces!)

I intend to take the latest Avast, and ZA 6.5.714 (not 722 which is current, but has some issues with the hosts file). There is also Pest Patrol running as resident on this computer, a corporate version, not the one from CA.

I will be using Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D on demand.

Any suggestions? advice? golden thoughts on the mix and installation?

A:Do Zonealarm Firewall And Avast Free Coexist Well?

That should work fine. I would include the following free programs to help prevent spyware, homepage hijacking and increase your browser security:? SpywareGuard? SpywareBlaster? IE-SPYADAnd use Ewido Anti-Spyware v4.0 as a stand-alone scanner to supplement your anti-virus program.Ewido Install and Scan Instructions

I got ZoneAlarm Free Firewall on my computer at work, and I am really happy with it. I like that it is easy to use and works with the company imposed antivirus software.

I am thinking up upgrading to ZoneAlarm Pro firewall for my home computer. Pro also comes with identity theft and anti-spyware protection for $30 usd, but I have a couple of questions:

1) Does Zonealarm or Zonealarm PRo create any issues with Bit-Torrent?

2) I really like zonealarm, but do you think the Pro is a good value?

3) How good is their identity theft protection, has anyone used it?

A:Zonealarm Pro firewall - does it create issues with bit-torrent?

Well we can't help with no. 1 as we don't assist with P2P related questions as you will see in the site rules.

But since you asked other questions, I will leave the thread open with a reminder to those replying that they must abide by the rules as well. Thanks for understanding.

I have ZoneAlarm Extreme Anti-virus/Anti-spyware. This software includes firewall security.

I keep getting Windows Security Alerts, telling me to turn Windows Firewall on. I don't want to do this, because I already have ZoneAlarm Firewall enabled. Why wont Windows Security Center detect the ZoneAlarm Firewall?

Also, Windows Security Center is telling me that "ZoneAlarm Extreme Anti-virus is on, but is reporting its status to Windows Security in a format that is no longer supported. Use the program's automatic updating feature, or contact the program manufacturer for an updated version".

Now, I already updated everything. What's wrong?

Btw, I am using the 15-day trial for ZoneAlarm Extreme Anti-virus/Anti-spyware. Is this software any good, or do I have better options? If so, exactly what should I download?

Thanks a lot!

Thank you in advance for your replies.

I got this log report from ZoneAlarm Firewall log. I just installed ZoneAlarm Firewall and CNET TechTracker so I do not know what I am doing.

I am being continually invaded daily by trojans using Windows Firewall so I added ZoneAlarm Firewall.

I am running XP SP3.

192.168.1.1 I think is the address of my router, not sure.

When I tried to update programs on my computer using CNET Tech Tracker, only one of the 30 plus programs would update. From the report below, is there a reason why programs will not update from CNET TechTracker?

Do I need to adjust a setting to make ZoneAlarm Firewall/CNET Tech Tracker more functional?

The log report is below...

A:Interpretation Of ZoneAlarm Firewall Report And Tech Tracker

If you are really worried about the trojans i would intall bit defender security. The ZoneAlarm firewall is a bit out of date. Having said this there does not apear to be anything wrong with the report. All the port numbers are relatively low suggesting every day items.

Is it ok to run both? Or do they conflict?

A:Solved: Windows Firewall and Zonealarm running at the same time

You should not run both. Zone Alarm is better because it has two protection so you should use that and turn off the XP one.

I am kinda worried of all this "NetBIOS" thing being reported in the Alert Log. It happens about every minute for 6 to 7 mins before before suddenly silenced. I did an updated virus scan but found nothing.

At first I thought it was sort of a 'heartbeat' from the ISP to check if my PC is still connected (and those were blocked by ZoneAlarm) because after not using the internet for sometime, it says I am working Offline.

But the catch is that all this NetBIOS activity happens only between 2pm to 6pm GMT, 10pm to 2am in Singapore, and it sporatically happens for a short period of time before nothing else is reported.

I don't use a public computer, but a home PC connected to a wireless internet router via LAN. Wireless so that it can transmit an internet connection to my family's laptops.

I am still a computer newbie, so I know nothing of the complicated stuff of 'whatyacallit'. I just follow the manual and somehow it work.

A:ZoneAlarm Firewall keeps reporting activity related to NetBIOS

Well what you could do is remove NetBios support in the network properties since it is not necessary to have.

I am rather extreme when it comes to privacy. If you are also and use Windows XP Service Pack 2, this post is for you.

I installed ZoneAlarm Privacy Suite about a week ago. By default I use Mozilla Firefox, but for Window's Update, I use IE.

I have set ZoneAlarm by default to block all cookies, ads, and mobile code. I edit the settings on a per site basis, and then have all cookies expire at the end of the session. When you edit the settings, ZoneAlarm will remember them and you won't have to edit them for that site again.

For Window's Update, you DO NOT have to add it to the trusted site as their website instructs. For the Window's update to work, set ZoneAlarm so that a green check mark appears in the Mobile Code column for Microsoft.com in the site list under the privacy tab.

Your Internet Options in IE in the Internet Zone should have disable checked for unsigned ActiveX, and ActiveX marked as unsafe.

Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins I have set to prompt. Note that my computer is a stand-alone. If you have a house network, you may wish to check "Administrator Approved." ActiveX marked as safe I have set to enable.

I have also enabled automatic prompting for activeX controls. If all the questions drive you buggy, I suppose you could set this to disable, but if you are worried about something being installed on your computer that shouldn't be, click enable just to be on the safe side.

Window's Updater will work fine with these s... Read more

ZoneAlarm free firewall fails the ping request part of the GRC Shields Up common ports test. When I used to use Comodo firewall it passed it, although Online Armor didn't.

Is a firewall failing this part of the test anything to worry about, and can ZoneAlarm be configured to pass it? Security settings are on high.

A:ZoneAlarm Firewall fails Shields Up ping request

If you are behind NAT router then leak\ping tests will give erroneous results.

You must setup a LAN with another computer behind the NAT router - and use the other computer - to accurately leak test the system you wish to "test" - or - you can set up port-forwarding from your NAT router to your PC.

Leak tests always cause confusion because how to set up your system to accurately test is not explained.

Leak tests are a waste of time... most of them are obsolete since they have not been updated in many years. Even if they were updated regularly, I do not see much value since, as I said, proper instructions are never provided.

Leak test results are not something the typical user should fret over... really.

I think it is.. I love Zonealarm.. the free one.... I tried to install it on my friend's dad's computer but It keeps zapping and bringing me to the Blue Screen Error Message page.. so I have to restart it manually (pulling the plug) I think it's because it's running another firewall....

I think he has Comcast or something like that.. it's Cable.. I don't think it's great because i think it lets other programs enter.. Zonealarm tells me When a program (even a safe one like firefox) wants to enter my computer.. but I don't want to mess with someone eles's computer without asking you experts first........... It was built into his browser....

??? thank you..........

A:Question.. Is zonealarm better than a built in High Speed Cable firewall?

Uninstall ZoneAlarm and see if the blue screen stops occuring. Is your friend's dad running Vista? If so you can go to Control Panel > Security Centre and see if he has another firewall running. Windows XP's Security Center may also list the firewalls in use too, but I dont remember.

What do you think of Windows own firewall? Does it also stop outbound connections?

What is it like compared to Zone Alarm? Is ZA in itself any good?

Also, is there a tool similar to ZA's internet lock where you can temporarily enable / disable internet access?

I just downloaded the ZoneAlarm Free Firewall. I knew I'd have to let it change my search engine and allow Chrome to be installed, but had read these changes were easily removed. I uninstalled the Chrome and reset the Firefox seach bar to use Google, no problem. But although Firefox starts with as wanted, each time I use a tab to open another Firefox page, those new pages have the ZoneAlarm  search engine in the adress bar and in the middle of the page search box, and the Google search engine in the upper right search box.

Does anyone know how to get ZoneAlarm search to go away?

A:ZoneAlarm firewall download changed my Firefox search engine choice

1.  In addressbar (no quotes): "about:config"
2.  Click Enter
3.  Search for (no quotes): "browser.newtab.url"
4.  Double click on #3.
5.  Enter your desired URL.
6.  Press Enter.
7.  Click Home Icon.

Hi,

I have a WEP 128 with 2 desktops and 2 laptops, all with Zonealarm installed, and connected to the Orange Livebox router, by wireless.

On 1 laptop, I have a printer connected and have enabled it for Printer Sharing. I also have shared documents on each of them which I have allowed access. If I disable ZoneAlarm I can access the workgroup, \\MSHOME.

Otherwise, I can't. I have to turn Zonealarm off.

I have tried:
Allowing the IP range of 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.255 to the trusted zone... doesn't work.

Any one have any ideas?

Thanks.

A:Sharing printer files over Orange Wireless Network and Zonealarm firewall

PING is a useless test for this condition.

I'll refer you to a Vista Page, but everything except the Public vs Private comments
apply to ALL Windows systems.

For firewall control, you need special ports to be allowed, but only for YOUR lan addresses.

IF your lan is 192.168.1.1 thru 192.168.1.255, then

Code:

allow TCP/UDP in src iprange 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.255 ports 135-139,445
allow TCP/UDP out dest iprange 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.255 ports 135-139,445
allow UDP in src iprange 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.255 port 631
allow UDP out dest iprange 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.255 port 631

the first two are file sharing and will work for Mac, Linux and Windows,
the last two remote print spooling

I installed ZoneAlarm free version several days back and got this alert from ZoneAlarm a few days later:

ZoneAlarm Security Alert

The firewall has blocked Internet access to Carol.netgear.com (63.251.179.56) (TCP Port 445) from your computer [TCP Flags: S]

All local IPs are in the 192.168.xxx.xxx range, including the "Carol" computer.

I did a little research via Google and came up with the following text on a web page. I used those instructions and the alert came back today with the same IP number. The first alert was several days ago. By the way, Windows Updates is disabled and I have manually done none since following the below instructions:
Symptom:
You receive an alert from ZoneAlarm SiteAdvisor as follows:

The firewall has blocked Internet access to whatever.com (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) (HTTP) from your computer (TCP Flags: S)

Why this alert:

Windows Update has updated (changed) the files used for networking and internet access and ZA does not recognize the new files. The file names and locations may match; but, the new file sizes and checksums don't.

To solve this, just reset the ZA database:

- Boot your computer into the Safe Mode.
- Navigate to the c:\windows\internet logs folder.
- Delete backup.rdb, iamdb.rdb, *.ldb and the tvDebug files.
- Empty the Recycle Bin.
- Reboot to Normal Mode. You may see a 'new network found' alert. Set it to "Trusted". Then do as follows:
