explorer.exe error black screen, white screen, about:blank

Q: explorer.exe error black screen, white screen, about:blank

I'm not sure if this is one virus or if my computer has somehow picked up several, but it is pretty much completely screwed. I can't access ANYTHING properly so i am posting this message from another computer.

This is what happens when I turn my computer on:

1. blank blue screen with program error message: "explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows....".
2. if i click "ok" the message goes away and i am left with a blank blue screen and i have to reboot the computer
3. if i don't click ok windows starts to load up an looks normal at first but then another error message pops up (the same one) and the screen turns black and says some junk like "Warning! You're in danger!" and then some junk about spyware.
4. then a few seconds later another error message pops up and the screen turns white and says "Active Desktop Recovery. Microsoft Windows has experienced and unexpected error..." It gives me an option to "click here to restore" but nothing happens when i do click it.
5. and then another error message pops up and the screen goes black again, then another message and it goes white and so on.

I can't really open any programs properly because another error message will pop up and shut down the start menu before i get a chance to open anything.

I managed to run ad-aware and it found some problems that i cleaned up. then spybot found nothing. then i rebooted and was having the same problem so i rebooted in safe mode and scanned for spyware again and found nothing.

I somehow managed to run hijackthis and print the log. so now i guess i'll have to type it up! (i might do some abbreviations)

Please help!!!! this is so very sad and frustrating

why do i have so many svchost.exe's running? why do i have both WINNT and winnt? And System32 and system32?

A: explorer.exe error black screen, white screen, about:blank

Yes, you've got a few malware entries in there (a CoolWebSearch hijack, and a couple of trojans), though it's not going to be easy to remedy without seeing the complete HJT log. Can you possibly copy the log to floppy and then post it from the other computer?

What's the Windows OS?
eg. Is it Windows 2000 sp4? Or is it WinXP Pro sp2?

What version of HijackThis is it? v1.99.1 is the latest version.
Is HijackThis.exe running from a permanent folder, and not from within a zip file in a Temp folder?
This is important. Make sure HijackThis.exe is installed in eg.
C:\Program Files\HijackThis
Re: your questions at the end of your post:
Don't worry about WINNT / winnt and System32 / system32
They are both exactly the same (whether smallcase or uppercase or a mixture).
svchost.exe is legitimate and is an integral part of Windows NT/2k/XP (Services Host).
It is normal to have multiple instances of it running.

Anyway, try this for now...
If possible, please download the following apps and transfer them to the infected pc.
CWShredder (free standalone version)
http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html
http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWShredder.exe
AboutBuster
http://www.besttechie.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=1488 (tutorial)
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/AboutBuster.zip

You will need to unzip AboutBuster.zip to a folder on the good pc,
then open AboutBuster.exe
click the Update button
download the updates
then copy the entire AboutBuster folder over to the infected pc.
Download the attached cleanup.zip file.
The zip contains a .bat and a .reg file.
Unzip them and copy the .bat and .reg file over to the infected pc.
Make a copy of them on the desktop and in My Documents.
You could also run them both directly from a floppy.
However, don't run either just yet.
I will tell you what they do and when to use them later in the instructions below.

Now run CWShredder
Simply open it, and click "Fix"

________________________________________________
Now run AboutBuster
Click the Start button and follow the prompts
Don't reboot just yet.

________________________________________________
Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab:
Checkmark "show hidden files"
Uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"

OK everything and close Folder Options.
(note, those are the WinXP instructions, it might be different for Win2k)

________________________________________________
Go to: Control Panel > Internet Options
General tab > Temporary Internet Files > Delete Files:
Checkmark "Delete all offline content"
Click OK
Click on the Programs tab, then click the "Reset Web Settings" button.
Click Apply then OK.

Note: You then might need to reset your desired home page c/o General tab

________________________________________________
Now run the .reg and .bat files from my attachment.

Double click registry_fix.reg first (or right-click it and select "merge")
This will remove references to the malware from the registry.
Click Yes/OK to accept the merge.

Now double click deletefiles.bat
A command prompt will appear and start automatically deleting the malware files.
It will also delete all Temp files.
If you get a prompt at any point, type Y and hit Enter.
Otherwise the command prompt will auto exit.

________________________________________________
Empty the Recycle Bin
Disable System Restore
Control Panel > System > System Restore tab:
Checkmark "Turn off system restore"
Click Apply/OK
(You can re-enable system restore once your system is confirmed clean)

Those are WinXP instructions.

If your Windows OS is Windows 2000, then ignore this, as there is no System Restore in Win2k.

________________________________________________
Run HJT one more time
and confirm that none of those entries we got you to fix earlier have returned.
Make sure you checkmark only the bold-texted entries from my instructions above.

________________________________________________
Now reboot into Normal Mode
You might now need to right click the desktop,
select "properties"
and choose your desired wallpaper c/o the Desktop tab.
Close all windows.
Run AboutBuster again
Run CWShredder again

________________________________________________
If you CAN get online but can't access any web sites, then It's possible now that you might need to reinstall your ISP software. This is because your DNS/Tcpip NameServer was hijacked by one of the trojans

The only way I could fix this for you is if I knew what DNS your ISP used for this registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{FCFFAD89-8D48-49EC-BA2D-4703CF71009D}:
NameServer= ???

You could try going to:
Control Panel > Network Connections
Right click your default connection, select "properties"
then in the Network tab, click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", then click "properties"
Make sure both "obtain...automatically" options are checkmarked.

Go to: Start > Run
Type: cmd
hit enter
In the command prompt, type:
ipconfig /flushdns
hit enter
type: exit
hit enter

Or you could contact your ISP and they should be able to tell you what to use for IP and DNS addresses.
Though it might just be easier to reinstall the connection/software.

One thing's for sure... 69.50.184.84,195.225.176.37 is a hijack and is NOT provided by your ISP.

You could also try using one of the Open-RSC Domain Name Servers from here:
http://support.open-rsc.org/.servers/
http://support.open-rsc.org/How_To/

Basically, you'd go to the Network Control Panel, and under properties for your default connection (same instructions as above), instead of using "obtain dns server address automatically", you'd checkmark "use the following dns server" and enter the Open-RSC DNS Addresses.

The choices are:
199.166.28.10 (Atlanta, Ga)
199.166.29.3 (Nederlands)
199.166.31.3 (Orlando, FL, USA)
199.5.157.128 (Detroit, MI, USA)

Use the two nearest to you...

Hello All,

Recently I built a new PC Show Us Your Rig [6]

I am having a display issue with it. The graphics card is an R7 260X 2GB overclocked edition from Saphire.

Now these issues don't happen regularly but it is worrying so I'd rather deal with it sooner than later

Sometimes in game (like Arma 3 ) and I occasionally see it on desktop. parts of my monitor only a small area usually top right I can see image being distorted it is usually white/black squares last around 10 seconds or so. I have two monitors and it happens to both monitors so I'd rule out a monitor problem.

Now today I was watching Top Gear on BBC Iplayer towards the end of the show my screen just went blank (black) I could only hear sound for around 10-20 seconds and then that went of to.. I'd had to force shutdown. This also happened to me the other day when I was changing HDMI cable (I have two monitors, and sometimes I switch to TV HDMI)

Here are the idle temps for the hardware (according to CPUID)

Graphics Card = 36c (96F)
CPU = 30c (82F)
Mainboard 111C (231F)

in game GC is around (50/60c) have not seen it get higher than this
CPU can get upto 40c

I have a 650w Corsair PSU unit. Also I have 3 case fans, two front, one top, so enough cooling.

Anyone know the likely cause? (I am guessing it's GC)

PS: All drivers are up to date and room temperature can be quite high 20c (I always have heater on)

A:Screen going blank, little white - black/square dots..

could also be ram related, a dodgy stick can cause image issues.
I found that out after being 100% sure my card was duff got it RMA'd and the new one had the same issue... derp!

try the latest beta driver from AMD see if that helps. Lots of people seem to be having driver issues with the new r7 and r9 cards.

Hi all,

Starting yesterday my computer would go through startup... while loading the desktop it would crash to blue screen with white text (unfortunately, I can't remember the exact error message). If restarted, it either goes to a blank black screen or back to blue, and I could only get the computer to operate in safe mode with networking. My antivirus software (avast free, malwarebytes)scanned and found no infections.

I have Windows 7, Samsung laptop.

Today, I was able to start the computer normally and am functioning with internet (still acting a little funny), but I am sure something is still not right. I also did a system restore last night, with the same problems (crashing, not starting up).

Any assistance would be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Brit

PS: I (goofily) started a similar topic in the "Windows 7" forum section without knowing this section was down here... Sorry! I tried to delete the topic/post but couldn't. Thanks.

Hello,I will be helping you with your problems. Please be patient while I assist you. Some points for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of us Please do NOT run, install or uninstall any programs, unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Butt... Hello, I'm new here and I so hope someone can help me, since I'm not the sharpest computer tool in the shed
This issue has started happening and I have no clue..I have cleared cookies, history, etc..but that hasn't worked..
Here's the deal...When I click Internet Explorer Icon of my desk top or go to start, programs, etc..to open Explorer, it seems as if it's going to open, then the screen goes black for a second..then a blue screen comes up and says "An error has occured...ctrl,alt,delete, to restart..click any key to continue to windows..etc...you know the one...
Well the error is this: 0D:000:0000FA16...I can click any key and return to desk top..
Can someone please help me..The only way I'm able to be here is, thankfully I have JUNO as my ISP and they have their own browser window..
Also in checking mail, for instance, in Hot Mail..if I clicked a link in an e-mail to go to a certain page..same thing...black screen...blue screen, error..etc..
It would be wonderfull if someone could maybe e-mail me step by step what I might could [email protected]
Thanks

I've got a problem with my laptop, a 2010 HP G60-635DX. First, a little history. This was my wife's laptop until she dropped it and broke the display screen. We hooked it up to a monitor and she was good to go. Last Christmas I got her a new computer and again she was all set. In the meanwhile I've been using this old Dell laptop from 2006 with WinXP in it. Works, but is slow as all get out. A few months ago I decided to use my wife's old computer for myself. It comes with Windows 7 and works quite well. Last June I made the mistake of trying the Windows 10 upgrade, and what a disaster that turned out to be. So I reverted back to Win7, but I lost all the drivers that came with it, so I was stuck. So recently I bought a new screen for my wife's old computer, and I installed it today. So guess what? The screen works fine, but all I get is a blank white screen Nothing at all! It's as if the computer can't display anything at all. I just don't understand it. The computer fires up, but that's it. No start screen, no nothing. Just a blank white screen.
Anybody have any ideas as to what's wrong, and how I could fix this?

Hi, I've been having this problem. When I start my computer, the whole screen is white for awhile, then it turns black. There is no windows startup logo or my computer brand logo. Then my screen starts flashing and the power button on my monitor blinks and the monitor makes TOK sounds every 2 seconds and then the screen flashes and starts doing that over and over until it decides to make the whole screen white and stay like that. Here's what it looks like:

I tried manually restarting my computer by holding the power button and after a few tries, sometimes, if I'm lucky, it will let me login and then everything is fine.

Today, I went through this process and today I tried turning off the monitor when the screen was white. It restarted and black flashing but made the screen turn white faster. I just kept trying, turning the monitor off and on again because I didn't know what to do. Then I was so lucky, the login page for windows came up and I was able to login; now everything is normal. I can go online and everything without any problems until I shut down my computer and start it up again. Then it's back to square one.

Can anyone help me fix this problem? Should I buy a new monitor? I've had this one for a few years, but my desktop is new; It's one year old in 3 days. (April. 4)

Thanks in advance!

I have a brand new HP Pavilion with a touch screen. Out of the box I noticed there was a white speck on the screen which I couldn't wipe off. When I turned the screen on the speck appears to be black. The speck returns to white when the screen is on, but displaying something dark. This seems to me to be strange behavior for a dead pixel, but I don't know anything about the new touch screens.  I found a 'dead pixel test' online, and against red and green backgrounds the speck appeared black, while the test would indicate that it should appear white were it so.  I think that the speck seems to be 'above' the rest of the screen slightly. Does anyone know what this is?

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop that on Sunday while I was using it mysteriously shut off and then rebooted and when it came back on instead of getting a log in screen to log into windows it just has a black screen with a white cursor. The computer is running Windows Vista. I was on facebook at the time it did this and I also was using my iPhone as a hotspot via usb cable.   I am also having this same issue with my Dell all-in-one desktop computer which is also running Vista. It mysteriously did the same thing on Saturday. It was having other issues prior to the black screen that I was getting help with so when my laptop ended up having the exact same black screen with cursor instead of log in screen I was confused since it wasn't having the other issues the other computer was having prior to it happening to it.  I am getting help for that computer on TechSpot.  Could my iPhone have a virus or something that transferred to my desktop and then my laptop via the usb cable? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...Thanks!

Hello,
Recently my laptop screen had to be replaced due to a cracked screen. Original screen was a Samsung and the new screen is LG. After this, whenever I install Intel HD graphics, windows boots up till the login screen and then goes black, one bright flicker, then completely black again. However, when I boot into safe mode and replace Intel HD graphics driver with Standard VGA adapter, everything works fine, except for crappy graphics ofcourse. I tried installing various old/new/latest versions of driver software, upgrade/downgrade BIOS, install monitor.inf file from lenovo website for this laptop model, everything.
Odd thing: running Dxdiag shows my current display to be 1200x800 (32bit)(1hz).
So, I tried to change the display refresh rate in advanced settings> Screen refresh rate, no luck, no other option except ' Use hardware defaults'. So, I went ahead an modified registry values as given here:
How to Modify the Video Refresh Frequency in the Registry

Again, no use. After I reboot and go back and check, its set to 1 by default.

Tried 4 clean installs, installing on a completely new HDD, Windows 7 Pro, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8 , everything..

Is it a screen problem? Or some hardware ID kind of thing?
What should I do ?
Please help!

A:Black Screen/Blank screen after screen replacement

Not all laptop screens are the same. It is important to get a "replacement" screen, not a "compatible" one.

On the back of the laptop screen is a product sticker (you can only read this before you install the screen). On that sticker is the manufacturer and model #. You can use that number to find exact replacements.

How did you come to choose the LG screen?

Hey everyone.

I did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.

It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?

The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.

Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times. So not sure what is going on and any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

A:Black Screen of Doom but Booted to login screen (no cursor just blank)

I never had a problem upgrading like you've experienced but I experiencing Windows 10 upgrading process is the longest time taken ever compared to previous versions. It took me 1 hour+ to finished.

Play around a little bit to get used to it then did a clean install. No problem arise, seems working fine.

The point is, problems always happen after upgrading, to solve it just perform installation from scratch (clean install).

Bit of a long story but here I go.

I have 2 Radeon 6950 with the crossfire thing set up, it's been working well for over 2 years.

Over the last few weeks I've been having issues, mostly while watching videos (usually HD and/or full screen). The video will freeze, the audio will loop, then eventually the screen goes black and I get an error message saying "Display driver has stopped working and has recovered".
Sometimes it didn't recover and I have to turn the computer off.

What's now happening is it will freeze at the windows start up. Then after resetting I will get to windows in very very low resolution and in black and white.

So I 're-seated' the cards. I couldn't notice any obvious damage to it except the fans were very dusty so I cleaned them.
Boot it up and I still get the black and white.
I checked the device manager and it said one of the cards was having problems, I uninstalled both drivers from that menu (not quite sure if I should have done this) and for whatever reason it's now working.

However it now seems one of my cards is not being recognised. Only one display adapter is shown in the device manager and AMD catalyst only recognises one card too.

What's the best course of action to determine what's wrong with what card (still not quite sure which one it is).

My Windows XP machine has just given me a blank white screen!! It happened while browsing the net and I can do nothing now. The screen is totally blank and there is no response to any keystroke or mouse click. I switch off and restart: the Windows Welcome screen appears, in blue as it should, plus the fanfare; then instead of booting properly, it waits a bit then all goes white again. The hourglass is flicking on and off showing that some booting-up is perhaps going on but I cannot even get a response from Ctrl-Alt-Del. There is no Start button or way of accessing anything!

When I press the button to switch off, my desktop briefly appears (in full colour, just as it should be) followed by the message that I'm logging off and Windows is shutting down. So it doesn't look to me that the machine is totally dead, just diverted to this blank white screen. Unfortunately, after a virus infection some time back, this machine will not start in safe mode (I just get a list of partitions and drivers) so I am really stuck. Can anyone please help me here? It really is urgent.

I am running Vista Home Premium SP1. Several times a day, for no reason, the screen goes completely white with exception to the task bar. When this happens, the Internet icon appears on the task bar. The only way I know how to cancel this is to click on the icon, then Close OR press Alt+F4 to close the current screen. This is very annoying as it happens regularly. It also happens sometimes after bootup and everything has settled down. Without touching the keyboard or mouse the screen will go white.

I have a Dell flatscreen; I am not sure of a model number for the screen, but it might be: BN68-00170Q-00

I noticed that the screen had light flickers, and this has been this way for quite a while. Just today, the screen appeared completely white. I have a dual-screen set up. the other screen, the same model, has a menu when unplugged from the computer. When this (broken) screen is unplugged from the computer, the screen still displays white.

My question is: What is wrong with this screen? Can I repair this screen, and if so, what will it take?

Thank You,

During a two hour period using my laptop, blank white pages appeared, seemingly at random times. There was nothing on the screen apart from the cursor pointer except for a "greyed out" slider bar on the right margin.

There were no options available, except for "right clicking" which did not give an option to exit. The only option appeared to be to switch off the machine.(I realise now that I could possibly have used the task manager)

After a few futile attempts to discover what the problem was and a solution, I called my retailer's technical guys, who tried various things, including testing the hardware. They concluded that the blank page was a pop-up window, initiated by a virus or spyware. I have NOD32 and Spywareblaster installed and neither indicated a problem. I ran a full system scan and again, no threats were found.

Finally the technical guys recommended that I reset my PC to factory setting, by reloading all my original software.
As it is a new PC, only a few days old, this was no big problem.

I'm on Vista Home Premium.

After returning to factory settings and reinstalling everything, all seems well.

Does anyone agree that it was caused by a virus or spyware and if so why was it not detected?

Any comments will be appreciated.

My laptop screen goes completely white. It used to be less frequent before and would start working when I restarted the laptop. However its happening more often in the last two days. It does not go back to normal even when I restart it. The screen is totally white (no icon or windows). When i restart i see the DELL screen for a split nano second and then the screen goes white. I think the laptop is still functioning but its just the screen that goes blank. I say this because I was videochatting the other day when the screen turned white. I could still hear the voice and continue the chat. Also the numlock and capslock seem to be working. I am just worried cos its happening more often now and I think one day it will totally shut off and I will lose all my files. I had to restart my laptop atleast 5-6 times while following the 'spyware 1st steps'.

I don't think I have a Windows Install disc, or a Boot CD.

I have asked for help in techsupport forum before and also regularly follow all the steps you have suggested to keep my computer safe from virus but dont know why this is happening. So please help me. TIA

Hi edifiz,

You've got something really nasty on this machine. I'll need to gather more information before providing removal instructions.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from here Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and save it to your desktop.

Be sure to print out and follow the instructions provided on that same page.

Caution: This is a beta version so please be sure to read the disclaimer and back up any important data before using.
Double click the mbar.zip file to open it, then 'Extract all files'.
Double click the mbar folder to open it, then double click mbar.exe to start the tool.
Check for Updates, then Scan your system for malware

If malware is found, do NOT press the Cleanup button yet. Click EXIT.

I'd like to see the log first so I can see what it sees. You'll find the log in that mbar folder as MBAR-log-<date and time>***.txt . Please attach that to your next reply.

=======================

Next, download TDSSKiller.exe and save it to your desktopExecute TDSSKiller.exe by doubleclicking on it.
Press Start Scan
If Malicious objects are found, do NOT select Cure. Change the action to Skip, and save the log.
Once complete, a log will be produced at the root drive which is typically C:\ ,for example, C:\TDSSKiller.<version_date_time>log.txt

Please post the contents of that log in your next reply.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. So, these are my problems described in the title. I cannot change desktop from black, only can set a picture as a background.

When I am in pictures folder for example, I see blank or black thumbnails.
When I right click and go to personalize, I can see black themes instead of actual pictures.

I tried almost everything.
- reinstalling video driver
- clearing thumbnail from disk cleanup
- resetting dwm.exe
- going into safemode and then restaring into normal windows
- I tried fixing shell by using "fixshell"
- clearing & repairing registry errors
- ran an error checker
- ran a file checker

I have Microsoft Office 2010 - I heard that it could be the issue, but maybe I am not right, anyway...

I attached a print screen photo.

And, I am hopeless, any help please? Thanks

Hi guys

Some help is needed if thats ok... first off, I am no computer expert so go easy on!

So last night, my girlfriend switched the netbook off by holding the on/off button. this morning while starting up is started some scan thing... that took about 5 minutes, was checking lots of files!

Everything, went as normal. When logging in, the minute i put my pasword in. a box flashed up saying title "explorer.exe - apllication error"followed with "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click ok to close the application.

After pressing ok, there is just a black screen... and the cursor... nothing else.

I had to swtich off. after restarting, my "asus express gate cloud" started worked as normal, i can browse etc.
I then thought to try safe mode... worked fine. with networks etc too.

I googled a bit and found a post saying the same and some guy said to run "cmd scannow" so did that, when i did that it said there were files that could not be fixed and to check the log. I had a look and its just stuff i dont understand

Anyone able to help me at all? I dont have a virus protect on here and installed ccleaner it founf lots of DLL files and deleted them.... i dunno.

After this someone told me to restore to a previous point... did that.. and it said failed to restore due to a number of errors.

thanks

A:EXPLORER.EXE application error after logging in, now black screen

One of our Forum experts created this tutorial that may help.

Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot

When using some of the native Windows 7 tools like Startup Repair and SFC (system file checker), if problems are found it's necessary to run the tool 3 times, rebooting in between each run.

Since you have a netbook, and I'm guessing no CD/DVD player readily available, it's going to limit your repair options if you have to "insert CD" or "burn to CD", etc. You might be able to use a USB flash drive instead but you'd also have to make sure that the BIOS is set to read from the flash drive as first option (the BIOS may be set to a default to read from hard drive first.)

Depending on what files got damaged or corrupted, or what else might have happened, you may have a hidden recovery partition on the hard drive that could return the netbook to factory settings. But this option would also erase everything else from the hard drive.

My computer a Dell Vostro 1510 is fairly new however I keep getting a random blank white page to pop up, this happens when I am connected to the internet and when I am not. If it does happen when I already have an internet explorer page open then I can go to the tab on the taskbar and right click and close, but if i dont have a ie window open then my whole screen goes white and the only way to get rid of it is to open the task manager and close it there. I have run mcaffee virus scan, avg virus scan, spybot and windows defender with no problems found. The problem doesnt seem to be causing anyother problems other than annoying the dickins out of me.

Hi all,

Probably a stupid question. I have a PC running Windows 2000 Pro. Yesterday at startup it goes as far as the login screen. I can log in OK, but then all I get is a blank white screen with nothing but a mouse. I'm not a cat, so this is no good to me.

I can get to the usual Task Manager by Ctrl+Alt+Del; I see no applications open, plenty of processes running.

I know slightly less than nothing about computers, but I recall seeing explorer.exe running all the time. Is this what's missing?

Any help would be appreciated.

I am having a problem with my computer. I dont know if any one can offer there support to this problem, or there could be some one out there that has experienced the same problem.

Here is the problem. My computer screen, seems to go blank, being all white screen. It seems to happen, when you do stuff on your computer. like clicking on icons to bring up the internet, also yahoo mail etc. To get rid of the white screen I need to click on to the desktop icon to make the white screen go away. You think it has gone, but it is still there, when you do the same thing clicking onto icons it seems to keep on going blank white screen. It gets annoying clicking on the desktop icon all the time.

Some days the white screen may not come up.

Would any one please, provide info about this problem I have.

Thank you for reading.

I did a system scan with Spybot Search and Destroy along with Hijackthis. The computer was working just fine until start up. When everything loads a white blank screen randomly pops up and disappears. The computer is running just fine but it's bugging me what the white screen is cause it never happened before. I restarted the computer a few times to see if I can crash the white screen which I did. It gave me a CPAX20 error. I did some research on it and it says that I must of downloaded an adware which I don't think can be possible because I've been dealing with virus, maware, and adware for years and I can't find anything I've recently downloaded that would have any viruses because I download programs from a friend that's very reliable.

Anyone have any idea on what this is?

Hi, I have a problem (I'm guessing with one of my video drivers), and have no idea what to do.

When I start up my computer, everything works fine, I can login fine, but after ~2 minutes of being logged in, my computer screen with turn entirely white (mouse visible, with the little loading circle), and then if I click or hit any buttons during the white screen, it will return to my desktop, with no windows open, no icons, no task bar, just my wallpaper.

I can CTRL+ALT+DEL, but when I hit 'Run Task Manager', it goes back to the blank wallpaper with nothing there.
I suspect task manager is running, but the screen won't display it so I can't interact with it. I suspect this because
I can ctrl+alt+del, then hit 'Log Out', and for a brief moment my desktop will go back to normal, but then the logout process continues and I am logged out.

First I tried running it in Safe Mode, which works, except the same thing happens. Only instead of a white screen, the computer just restarts on its own. So then I went to the Advanced Boot Options screen, and disabled 'Automatic Restart on Crash'. For some reason though, that had no effect on anything.

So I tried working in the <2 minutes I have before the computer goes blank, and managed to disable all processes & services except for microsoft ones, and disabled startup processes. This seemed to have made the startup faster (giving me a bit more time to work before it goes blank), but didn&... Read more

Sometimes it eventually comes on, when I hit alt>shift, the ctrl>alt>delete, then I can finally bring up the task manager which brings my screen back. I have Vista 32bit, and an LG monitor. I noticed no one replied to you. Have you been able to solve it?

When I start my laptop it goes straight to a blank white screen. I can hear the fan running and the lights are flicking on and it sounds like it wants to start but the screen remains blank. I tried taking the battery out and starting the computer with only the AC adaptor I even took out the memory and realigned it but nothing seems to work. What's wrong with my laptop?

When I go to this forum, a blank white screen appears. It started happening just today and is just with this one site. I can acess the log in page ONLY IF I click 'Cache' at the bottom of google. But when I type in my password and username, the same blank white screen comes up.

I'll also add that yesterday, and earlier this morning, this specifica website began running pretty slow for me. And now, I can't get to it at all because of the blank screen.

I made a screencap. Does anyone know what it could be?

Whenever I leave the computer idle for a short period of time the screen goes blank/white. The only way to get control again is to reboot/rsestart. This feature used to work by screen going blank until I touched a key where it would come back to what was on screen before. I think I must have selected something in the settings incorrectly. I am using Windows 7 and either Google Chrome, Internet Explored or Firefox. This is an HP Pavilion lap top computer.

Did you go into the power options and change any settings?

What's the model number and part/product number(P/N) of that HP Pavilion laptop?

When using my dell laptop, the screen will get quick tiny color lines and then go white blank and the only way to get it back up is to close my computer and wait about 2 minutes and sometimes I have to do this several times. This usually only happens if my computer is not plugged but also happens when it is just not as often. Any suggestions you have would be awesome! Thanks!

I saw this issue in the forum. And I'm having the same problem as the original poster. If anyone has a solution, I'd certainly appreciate the guidance. This laptop (Compaq CQ-60) is about 6 months old. Because it was so cheap, I didn't bother buying the warranty. It got dropped, so naturally we had to replace the LCD screen. It worked perfectly after that for about 2 weeks. Now when you turn it on, it's just a solid white, blank screen. If we connect an external monitor, we can use it. But otherwise, we're kinda screwed. Using my troubleshooting skills here, if it has a display (externally) then the motherboard and video card would apparently be functioning as expected. One other thing, I can adjust the brightness using the function key and the corresponding f key. Did this new LCD screen just go bad?

Help.

Thanks,

Randy.

My Windows XP machine has just given me a blank white screen!! It happened while browsing the net and I can do nothing now. The screen is totally blank and there is no response to any keystroke or mouse click. I switch off and restart: the Windows Welcome screen appears plus the fanfare; then instead of booting properly, it waits a bit then all goes white again. The hourglass is flicking on and off showing that some booting-up is perhaps going on but I cannot even get a response from Ctrl-Alt-Del.

When I press the button to switch off, my desktop briefly appears (in full colour, just as it should be) followed by the message that I'm logging off and Windows is shutting down, i.e. it doesn't seem as though the machine is totally dead, just diverted to this blank white screen. Unfortunately, after a virus infection some time back, this machine will not start in safe mode so I am really stuck. Can anyone please help me here? It really is vital.

A:Solved: Just got a blank white screen !

Well thanks folks - another nil response, not the first time either. My problems must be a bit naff so I will not be posting here again.
In the off chance that anyone is remotely interested, my blank white screen problem has healed itself. After a day's worth of switching on and switching off again, I suddenly got a message that a program was failing to respond and did I want to close it now? It was a Real Player update, never requested or agreed to, that was not responding and when I closed it, bingo, I had control of my machine again and it proceeded to give me my desktop and everything.
Just so as you know. I won't trouble you again. Adios.

All of a sudden my screen goes completely white, and the only way to get rid of it is to hit the "show desktop" button on my keyboard, then right click the button that has appeared on my taskbar that says "Internet Explorer blank page", and click "close" from the menu. Why is it doing this? Can anybody help me?

Normally, I'd suggest re-installing your video drivers to work around this problem - but the blank Internet Explorer page causes some concern.Have you scanned your system with an independent scanner to see if this is malware related? Here's some good, independent, free scans:(Be advised that some of these scanners will pickup things in "quarantine" from other anti-virus programs - so review the results carefully)http://housecall.trendmicro.comhttp://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner Scan Only - no removalhttp://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.htmlhttp://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtmlhttp://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asphttp://onlinescan.avast.com/http://ca.com/us/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspxhttp://www.eset.com/onlinescan/<links compiled on 02/14/2008>

A:White blank screen while viewing

A quick-fix might be to simply reinstall Shockwave.

Login as the Administrator and then download and install Shockwave from Adobe at the URL below. If you do not want the Google Toolbar then remember to untick the GT box before installing.

Shockwave should be updated at least once a month.

A:starting up to blank screen with white cursor

Black screen with a white cursor in the upper left hand corner, usually means that it is not finding the OS to start. This could be because the Hard drive has gone bad, or the OS has been corrupted. Does the HP Netbook have a Factory Restore Option left?

The problem is:

-Computer boots up
-Shows green Windows loading bar
-Goes to black screen, and all I can see is the mouse cursor.

I can not ctrl+alt+dlt, and when I try "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" or any kind of safe mode, it will not work, and goes to the same black screen. Also the task manager is NOT available (normal & safe mode)
I have tried the "Last Known Good Configuration", but this has not worked either.

The machine is sealed using sysprep and deployed using Novell ZCM Imaging.
It comes up the first time, then it renames the computer using ziswin and then it is stuck in the black screen/white mouse cursor mode

Anyone?? I'm desperate....

A:Blank screen, White cursor after sysprep

Is this an enterprise computer? You should consult your IT dept.

If not then explain what you've done as these are not consumer methods. How is it sealed?

To check that the boot configuration is correct, confirm that WIn7 or it's 100mb System Reserved boot partition is marked Active, then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times to repair or rewrite the System boot files to the Active partition. Partition - Mark as Active (Method Two)

I am new to the Vista Operating system, and so far can't say I am liking it too much.

First I was getting an error loop that said that windows encountered a critacal problem and would shut down in one minute. It shut down and would restart only to do it over and over again.

I did some searching and decided to restore the computer back to the original state - I only starting setting it up today so I knew I wouldn't loose much, just my virus protection and my MSN software. I wasn't sure what was causing the problem so I also unplugged my video cam and my printer.

I was able to restore it back and I don't get that message anymore but now I have a big white screen that I can't close. So far I can get to other things like IE (haven't really tried anything else - I am afraid too). I just have a big white screen, I can move it out of my way, I can't minimize it and it won't let me close it and there is nothing in task manager.

Is there anyone out there that might be able to assist in getting rid of this big white screen? Also if you know what might have cause this "critical error" my web cam? my printer? my MSN software? my Mcafee Virus Protection? I have since downloaded some free virus protection to keep me safe while I solve this new problem.

I have only had this computer for one day and already I want to toss it out the window.

Thanks for your help.

A:Blank White Screen after System Restore

Before I mark this as solved let me ask another question after much poking around and google searched, we found out that it was syncuw.EXE that was causing the white screen. We think by our searches that it was tied to the Norton software that came bundled with the computer. We removed the Norton and the white box went away and so far so good. Does that make sense? has anyone else had this same problem?

I ran a System Restore the other day and during the process the computer shut down. When I brought the system back up many of my programs wouldn't open - not even IE. The ones that did open either didn't function properly or had blank white screens in their menu's - including system restore. I ran a couple regsrvr32 dll's and I got some of my system restore areas to appear but the calendar is blank. Also, when I intially go to the calendar it gives me this error:

A Runtime Error has occured.
Do you wish to Debug?

Error: Unspecified error.

I tried running regsvr32 mshtml.dll and it gives me this error:

I was getting a blank white screen on some web sites - inlcuding know safe sites, and finally discovered what it was.
Kaspersky Anti-Banner was set to ON.
Kaspersky will block some sites with "selective scripting" for advertising, when anti-banner turned off works fine.
With all of the comments on the internet this solution may apply to many many people sinc ethere are no real solutions posted.
I would suggest possibly trying to turn off your anti-banner control and see it it helps ou as well.

Hello! Thanks so much for taking the time to read my thread.

I've run into a bit of trouble with my HP pavillion dm4-1065dx laptop (Windows 7 x64) in the past few days. I have a variety of symptoms that lead me to believe I could be infected with something, possibly failed ransomware. My main issue of concern is that, when I log in, I get a blank white screen with pointer only following the "welcome" screen.

Including this, here's a breakdown of some of the problems I've been facing:

- blank white screen with pointer only, after logging in / following the "welcome" screen (however, if I wait over 2 minutes or so, the desktop WILL eventually load and be usable)
- inconsistency with being able to boot windows normally (sometimes it works, but sometimes it never makes it to the login screen at all - working for now)
- inability to boot into safe mode (hangs at classpnp.sys - note: I usually CAN boot into safe mode with command prompt)
- general slowness, especially upon startup
- "could not reconnect all network drives" bubble pops up often

As for tests I've run and things I've tried thus far:

- malwarebytes (most notable discoveries were hijack.startmenu, conduit)
- hitmanpro (just chrome tracking cookies)
- tdsskiller (OK)
- roguekiller (various PUM HJ DESKs found in registry)
- adwcleaner (didn't help)
- farbar recovery scan tool (I've only run it in recovery mode, and while I did get the log, it caused computer t... Read more

Recently my HP pavillion zv6000 will not load up properly. When I press the power button, it will load past the HP Invent logo and then just shows a white-blank screen and nothing else. I connected it to an external monitor and it still shows the white-blank screen on the external monitor. I did an HDD test in the BIOS and the hard disk passed the test. I un-seated the ram and re-seat it but still I get white-blank screen.

Safe mode cannot load properly. When I select safe mode it starts to load safe mode but stops at the begining of the white loading bars at the bottom of the screen. Please help out some one

I am new to this site and in need of some assistance. I am running windows 7 home premium. My video card is an ATI Radeon HD560. i was on my computer the other day and noticed that it started to run slow. I restarted it and worked a bit faster. after about another hour of surfing and running different programs the screen went from color to black and white. i have tried to uninstall the video driver and reinstalled (which exagerated my screen icons and indows) but no changes to the color. i saw soe forums where they suggest replacing the video card. but i dont know if that is the issue. I am also using a samsung tv as a monitor. when i change the tv to tv mode i get color. i can also print in color. please help. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

howdy folks.

this is the second time we've had this problem, and i know it's from some kind of malware, but i don't know how to find out what. spybot s&d and adaware do not remove it. neither does defender. neither does symantec corporate. last time, i ended up formatting my hard drive and starting over, but i don't want to do that again!

here's the problem: computer boots up fine, windows (XP PRO SP2) loads fine. the display is beautiful and all is well, until suddenly, after a brief moment, maybe 10 seconds after windows loads, the display suddenly switches to black and white, except the icons are still in color. but they act funky if you hover over them or click on them.

i just read in another post about the "hack this" analyzer. i will try downloading it tonight and post the log here afterwards. in the mean time, i was wondering if anyone else has seen this behavior and might already know the fix.

thanks,

Hi all,
My Acer Aspire 7000 laptop running windows xp started showing a blank greyish/white screen recently. When I press the power button, the screen shows the Acer splash screen and then shows the blank greyish/white screen where it stays. It does not get to windows screen at all. I went into the BIOS to check and the settings are okay.
I connected the laptop to an external monitor and it showed the same things. First, the Acer splash screen and then blank screen. I checked the video cables connectors to make sure they were connected and still white screen. I tried to get into safe mode but I could not because it could load only up to "windows\system 32\drivers\isa pnp.sys". Please someone help me solve this problem.

Hello,
I'm brand new here, so I hope I can find an answer...I have a Vista Home Premium machine that was recently upgraded from XP Home, and when opening IE, a blank, white window opens in full screen, and the only way to close it is either open Task Manager, or Alt + F4...once it's closed, it seems to behave normally, but ...?
When the computer used XP as it's OS, opening any IE window caused a second, blank IE window to open and attempt to load - what it was loading I don't know, but when that window was closed, the intended destination could load...anyone seen/heard that one before?...any thoughts? Thanks so much for the chance to find out!

Hello,

I am having an issue with internet explorer. I work in the IT dept of a decent size company (500-600 users). About 5 to 10 people, on our network, call a day with IE problems. The fix for us had been to remote into the computer, log the user off, log on to the computer with an account that has domain admin permissions, reboot the computer, log back in with domain admin account and the problem is fixed.

This seems to be some kind of update or something that a standard user does not have permission to finish. Most of the time there are no updates to IE found in the control panel in the past week. I have had to fix the same computers multiple times.

We can currently fix the problems but I would greatly appericate it if someone could fill me in on maybe how to prevent or fix the problems without all the log outs and reboots.

Thank you so much for your time.

A:DELL INSPIRON 1564 , Screen goes white blank

I bought Inspiron 1564 around 6 months ago. The problem which I am having for the last 3-4 months is that the screen goes completely white when the laptop is powered ON or when watching videos on youtube, media player or switching screens too fast (b/w full screen and normal mode in a movie) or when Windows 7 asks for permission to execute any installation prog.
Firstly I thought it is a Windows related issue. I searched a lot of forums but no success. Updated Video Drivers from Intel, Dell to the latest time to time, but no result.
Couple of days ago, I realized that the screen goes white in the Setup menu (F2) as well, showing that it is hardware related. Occasionally, some lines appear on screen during Windows boot (like in case of VHS when video tape is too old).
I got some hope after reading above post. Can anyone help ? Specs are as under

My desktop has a blue background that cannot be changed. When I click on the volume control icon on the taskbar I get the following popup: "Volume Control has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The audio works regardless but the level cannot be adjusted.

These problems are minor but I thought they might be resolved by restoring the system to an earlier date. So I launched System Restore but it appears as a blank white screen. I was thinking that maybe I should try a new desktop now but I'm not sure if this will correct the problem or is the easiest solution. Please help!

Ok so... I'm gonna try to ask for help with this... because I am at a loss.

My cousin is running Windows Vista, 32 bit. He began having a problem where, after logging in, the screen would simply turn white. Alt+Ctrl+Delete would work, though, and was able to get to the task manager.

He can start it in safe mode just fine.

At first we thought it was a display problem, as he recently updated those drivers, but it wasn't that. Any changes or reinstall to the drivers simply has no effect.

However, I told him to go to MSConfig and do Diagnostic start up- then it works fine (Although without internet, or most other vital services). So, I figured it was something he had installed messing it all up and causing the white screen. So, I had him enable ONLY the Microsoft services in the services tab- all other services and startup items disabled. The white screen came back!

So in short: With everything disabled from startup (Diagnostic startup from MSConfig) it works fine, without internet etc. But with only the Microsoft services running- no other services, no startup items- it displays a blank white screen after logging in.

Any possible ideas which service might be causing it? or any way to find out? I can find no information, and there are simply too many services to sit there and try them each one at a time...

With windows 7 x64

I have seen many questions answered about this but I feel like I have slight different problem. Many of these issues have been solved by downloading or buying a windows 7 recovery disc. My problem is obviously from the start up, I get the black screen with the blinking cursor. Windows shut down on me the other night as it looked to be preparing to download an update and after it did 1 update, it went to restart and failed to load windows. I cannot press F8 and get to the recovery menu. Now I have a Dell Inspiron 17R N7110. One thing I have found different from the normal windows 7 recovery disc is that it does not include the option "Windows Complete PC Restore" where the "System Image Recovery" is. I don't think I used this to restore the PC the one time that I did it. I believe I used the option at the bottom of the dell recovery partition named "Dell Backup and Recovery Manager". But being unable to get into the advance start up options with F8, I cannot access the Dell recovery manager. So I used the windows 7 recovery disc that I burned with my other computer which is not a dell and the options do not work. I cannot system restore, and when it does work, it still wont boot. There are no problems with the start up repair. The temperatures are normal. The diagnostic test available from the boot options menu verified that all my hardware worked properly and even everything says my OS boot up is working ... Read more

Hi guys,

I'm having some trouble with my computer and I'm hoping someone can help, it is a Dell system 8400 with a pentium 4, 3GHz Processor and 512Mb RAM. Basically I was working away on my computer and I think I got the "blue screen of death". I thought the computer would be OK if I restarted it but now it just turns on and goes to a black screen with a blinking white cursor in the top left corner. I have looked around on the internet and can see this is a problem quite a few people have had.

Now when I turn the computer on I have the options of pressing F2 or F12.

F2 allows me to enter setup which is a menu with a blue screen with options such as 'System', 'Drives', 'Onboard Devices' etc.

F12 allows me to enter the 'boot menu' where the options are:
* Onboard SATA harddrive
* Onboard USB or CD-Rom drive
* System Setup
* Hard Drive Diagnostics
* Boot to utility partition

I think I know what caused me to get this problem. I was trying to obtain data files, however the website I was on told me to run a setup of a program. I was dubious about this as when I double clicked the setup file, the first install page was in Spanish and I couldn't understand it, I pressed the icon which looked like a piece of paper as I thought that might be the option to change the language and that is what caused the blue screen to occur.

Also I would like to retrieve files off the hard drive if it turns out that I need to reinstall windows. Thanks for your time.

Watto

A:XP: Black screen, white cursor..... Help!!!!

hi Watto, press F2 to enter set up and look in 'Drives' to see if your hard drive is recognised. If it is, then go to F12 and run hard drive diagnostics. You can also go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and download their own diagnostics which have to be burned to disk as a .iso (not just copied to disk). Now as for retrieving files, you could take the hard drive out of the computer, place it in a usb caddy and attach to a working computer via usb to see if you can retrieve the files. Before trying this however I would see if the drive is recognised in your BIOS. When you got the blue screen you mention did you see any error messages? Be grateful if you could post back to let us know your progress.

A:Black screen white cursor (Help please)

Black screen errors are very difficult to diagnose and fix.  Even more so since it won't get into Windows at any point.
What happens when you tap F8 during startup - can you get into Safe Mode?
If so, backup your stuff from there.

If not, you can slave your hard drive to another computer and copy the data over from there.
You can also backup from the command prompt if you're comfortable working at the command line

Windows doesn't automatically set restore points as they take up a fair amount of hard drive space.
You have to tell it to do it.

I'd suggest that you concentrate on backing up your data.
And once that is done, wipe the hard drive clean and start over with a fresh install of Windows.

Good luck!

So I'm trying to help a person I work with whose computer's been having problems. I've come across several problems in the past and always been able to fix whatever software/hardware issues I've had. So I figured I'd help. Her problem however is something I've never seen before, and just recently read about.

First things first, she's using Windows Vista Premium 64-bit edition.
Her computers problem: After boot menu it goes to a black screen with a blinking white cursor.
She said it was fine one day, not the next. Some business did something or whatever and it stopped working. Whatever the case, it's not working now.

This problem from what I've read is caused by several different things.
1.) Computer not waking from sleep/hibernate mode.
2.) Software issues or faulty hardware
3.) Possibly a issue with the Bios.

The most likely causing the issue seems to me like it would be software. Her Bio's are fine and I reset them to normal.
Her hard drive is working because it gets to the boot menu at least before failing to enter windows.
So the most likely choice causing this is software. Right? I mean, that's the only thing I can see causing it. I also tried putting her computer into safe mode..... then realized it didn't even seem to have a safe mode. Does that version of windows support safe mode? No keys said enter safe mode and the typical F8 didn't work.

She doesn't have a windows CD because apparently it never came with her computer when she bought it. And she has a lot of ... Read more

I have a laptop with a touchscreen and almost a year after buying it I would get black places with vertical white stripes on the screen. Sometimes they took up the whole screen, sometimes they were only an inch thick. They always seemed to be changing in size quickly and were always the full length of the screen. A computer mechanic said it was a short in the screen. It happened especially when I tilted the screen.

I sent it in under warranty and they replaced the LCD and updated the BIOS. Less than a week later it is starting to do it again just a little but it seems like it will get worse.

I do a lot of MS office for school and my sister plays the Sims 3 and free tv sites (but she doesn't download anything).

Please let me know if you need anymore information and provide specific steps on how to get it because I haven't gotten this lingo down, yet! Thanks!

It seems kinda poetic, doesn't it? A white cursor moving on an empty black screen, it can go anywhere it wants, but it is unable to do anything.

I'm working on a friend's computer, I dunno what he did... I probably don't want to know what he did, but it is irrelevent. It's an Acer Extensa 5620, Costco special, nothing special here. henever the computer boots up it boots up to a completely black screen, the only thing there is the white cursor. Now I assumed this was a "screen hide" virus kind of like the icon hider, but I'm completely lost here. Usually you can get around something like that by starting in safe mode, well not this one. I've tried starting up in safe mode and I get the same result. I've also tried going through the setup screen, but nothing there seems out of place. I can't really run anything, or do -anything-. So really anything would be helpful. Basically

Push power button,

computer turns on to Acer screen with the option to "press F2 to enter setup",

then you get a black screen with "windows did not resume properly last time it was shut down blah blah blah safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt or start windows normally" if you choose a safe mode you get the "files loading" screen which details all the start up files, if you click "start windows normally" you get the little green loading bar.

After the loading process is complete the white cursor shows up and everything is black.

i've been noticing some very strange things going on with my XP. When the system would start up, it could randomly do 1 of 3 things:

Load all the drivers(windows booting screen) and then turn white, and freeze, requiring a restart if you plan to use the computer
Load all the drivers and then turn black and freeze, requiring a restart if you plan to use the computer
Load all the drivers, and perform a correct start up (logon and all)
if it loads correctly, the system would run fine, but on rare occasions, it might suddenly restart, VPU recover (i have an ATI, and it only happened when i was crunching BOINC Wu's) or suddenly freeze.

I figured it was my ATI driver, knowing how crappy ati drivers were, and uninstalled the ati chipset driver and Catalyst. Only, when i restarted to reinstall the ATi driver, the same thing happened with the WSOD. now, i think it may be the graphics card itself. i found no other problems with my system, except for that problem. No Malware at all, i ran scans with Norton, MalwareBytes, Spybot, Trend Micro, MSE, and bitdefender (Trend Micro and Bitdefender were online scanners) any guesses?

I get the same black screen when I try to enter in safe mode or safe mode with networking.

My computer was freezing and restarting by itself for months so i was suggested to get a new motherboard so i ordered an LGA intel boxdg43gt. after installing a new OS to my hardrive it has me make a username and pass then after restarting again it posts and stops at a black screen with a blinking underscore (no logo screen yet).

I tried booting from the cd again but when it hits the screen "press any key to boot from cd" pressing any key does not do anything.

Im stuck here guys and you guys have always come though for me for years help!

I have a frst attached. Windows 7 booted to a black screen with pointer floating around. Startup repair and system restore were unsuccessful. Tried last known good configuration and that did not work either.

Mod Edit:  Removed FRST data, not allowed in this forum (which does not deal with maleare).  situation described occurs for varied reasons, most ow which have nothing to do with malware - Hamluis.

All right I currently have windows xp and everything was working last night. When I tried to turn my computer on this morning my computer booted up until the point where I should have been able to put in my password but instead I got a Black screen with only the mouse cursor in the middle. I can move the cursor around but that is all I can do. Can anyone here help me with this.
