After recently getting some updates from Microsoft and Iolo I started getting a message just as the toolbar is being populated saying I needed to restart my computer. No matter how many times I reboot, I get the same message. I emailed Iolo with a screen shot and they say it's not their message, although I recall ZoneAlarm giving me a pop up stating that SystemAnalyzer (System Mechanic) was restarting the computer. I also went through the five steps, but was unable to download any updates from Microsoft, my browser kept shutting just as I was about to download the updates(?) Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have just purchased some very expensive software but I cannot install it. Recently upgraded to win 2k on a HP PII 450. I have been getting a recurring and annoying error msg on my screen. "HPMSP4ia.exe has generated errors and will be closed" How do I get rid of this. If I try to install my new software this msg keeps multiplying. If I don't stop the install I will have thousands of these messages on my screen??????????

It sounds like this is a file specific to your HP, that is running in the background as a system management function. I would try HP's web site for information on disabling this during installs, or for help with what may be wrong.

For the past two days I've had this weird error window popping up. No matter how many times I close it it still comes back after about a minute. The window that pops up is invisible except for the frame. The window appears on my task bar as such:

I've run Ad-Aware, SpybotS&D and Panda Antivirus and it's still there. Anybody know what kind of error this is and how to get rid of it? It doesn't seem particularly harmful, just annoying.

I've just encountered a new problem. When I boot my computer I get an error message:
"ibm00001.exe not found"
I click OK on the message, it goes away, and everything works o.k. from then on.
Could someone tell me what is trying to start this process so I can remove it?
I did a search on the file and it is wasn't in my computer and I don't know what other program could be trying to execute it.

A:unknown error message

It's due to your Security settings in Internet Options.

This security policy exists for good reason. It prevents computers
becoming infected by spyware, general malware and viruses.

But if it's bothering you that much you can change your settings:

With IE open, go to Tools->Internet Options.
Click on the Security Tab and then hit the "Custom Level" button.
From there, you can set your ActiveX settings.

However, the fact that you are receiving those messages on certain sites is most likely protecting you from some sort of infection.

I've had this 'problem' for a couple of months and am having no luck finding out what it means. Everytime I log off the internet I get the following message on my screen: "The instruction at "0x7c9105f8" referenced memory at "0x01360010". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program."
Any ideas? Windows XP

Good chance he 'fragged' his bios with bad ram - shut down, pull the power plug, press the power 'ON' button, make SURE you are grounded, open case, remove bios battery for 10 minutes.

Re-install the battery, close case, re-insert power plug, re-start.

Hope for the best.

If this isn't going to affect the usage of my scanner how do I get rid of this error message from my initial login screen.

I logged on recently to my computer that runs XP Home SP2, under my administrator account and an error message that pops up says:

"Error Loading ifmq.kqo
The Specified Module Could not Be Found."

I've been messing around with my computer for about 3 hours trying to figure out what this is and in the meantime have removed some other infections, but if this is an infection I can't get rid of it, and none of my scanning has found anything with it, programs used including AVG, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, and Spybot S+D.

I've scanned all my processes and couldn't find anything that I didn't recognize or that shouldn't be there that I know of, but I will attach an HJT if anyone thinks it might help.

I have been getting multiple IE popups, and I had not tried on Firefox and hence do not know the popups on it. I have

had popups from Winantivirus pro 2007, Systemdoctor 2006, and new, new few other popups

that I have not been able to identify the source of.

I have not been able to work on my computer for a few days.

I have scanned my computer with adaware SE, multiple times. I got nailed with more IE popups when I tried to do a Mc

I've had to much faith in my built in firewall.

In addition to this, now when I reboot, I also get the following errors:

Error loading C:\WINDOWS\System32\vfaroivb.dll specified module could not be found.

I have no idea what either of these do or mean. I have posted my Hijack This log for you to look at, and I would

So yesterday, out of nowhere my internet browser was closed, and then Avira found a virus (or malware, I don't remember which). So I let it do its thing and scan, but then the scan stopped. As I don't use Avira almost ever, I start a quick scan with Malwarebytes, but without prevail it is also closed before it can finish. It was obvious that this infection was closing these scans, but before I could start my computer in Safe Mode, half of my shortcuts dissapeared and then an error window came up, and more started coming up at a rapid speed, so i did a Hard Shutoff, and booted up in safe mode. I ran malwarebytes and it got rid of 2 infected files. My shortcuts have come back it seems like, but when I press start, there is nothing in the Start window except "All Programs" and "Computer". So here I am typing this post in Safe Mode because I don't want to start up in normal mode, as I'm afraid of further infection.

Thanks for reading my semi-long story. I appreciate whoever takes the time to respond

Hello and thanks to anyone who is reading this.

Sometimes on shutdown, I receive an "End Program" message for "Facebook" (image attached

I have Microsoft Security Essentials and Comodo Firewall installed. I have run full scans with MSE, Kapersky Virus scan, Spybot Search and Destroy and a quick scan with Malwarebyte's AntiMalware, and I have found nothing. I also have recently installed Trend Micro's RUBotted, but the message has shown up since installing that. Not sure what else I can do.

Welcome To TSF.

That message means that the file is damaged or corrupt. From what i have seen there is nothing you can do.

You can use tools to scan for recoverable files before they were in the Winrar folder and try and retrieve them.

First I would like to apologize for leaving this forum. I am still as computer illiterate as I was. I just sometimes don't know how to follow the wise computer instructions of your staff there. As I have mentioned before everything has to be in very simple language for me.
Ok here goes again. I had Avast 4 downloaded. Tried to upgrade to 5. But, didn't quite get it downloaded. Don't remember the reason. But, then I got the error code that "cannot activate resident part standard shell provider not known." Then also and error of 1053. At one point it said Avast 4 has a virus. But did not give me a name. I forgot the name of the download that is supposed to get rid of Avast but I tried to download it and my computer would not let me down load then downloaded MBAM and I did one scan and it said I did not have a virus. Then I tried it again and the MBAM no longer worked for me to check it again. Also, I still can go into the security part of my computer and it shows that Avast is there and there it says that "Avast is turned off" and I also get a "key not registered" for the Avast 5 that shows up every time I turn the computer on and it is not on the computer at all to my knowledge. What a mess!
I have a question or two. What do I do? Also, is it safe to download Avast 5 still or can I go back and download Avast 4 again or should or can I download another antivirus for my 32 bit Vista Windows 7? Please help me.

Hi, kevkr,

Generally speaking, the QUICKEST way to solve your computing problems is to do a little research on your own. The old saying that, "If you need a helping hand, look at the end of your arm", might well apply here. As you learn to help yourself, you'll be a more skilled and confident computer user, and eventually, you might even want to start helping others with THEIR problems. Whether you realize it or not, it looks like you ALREADY had half the battle won in resolving this, simply because you provided good information for us to work with.

I hope you'll think about that, because you did a good job of DESCRIBING your problem. That says good things about your ability to pay attention to details, which is the most important skill you need when faced with ANY computer problem. I say all that because this site and others like it can put skills like yours to good use helping others who aren't as detail-oriented as you are.

That being said, I get the feeling you DIDN'T do your homework before posting this, because there's a good chance the answer to your problem is waiting for you at the McAfee website.

Try this link:

Just so you'll know for future reference, I searched Google for the term "gdlsphlr.dll", and the FIRST result returned by Google was a link to the McAfee site. I want to encourage you to try this yourself, so you'll see exac... Read more

I run a registry program called Registrar Registry Manager to help me manually clean uninstall registry entries. It was working fine until I fooled around with a new tweak program. I think deleted something related to opening it.

Right now, when I click on the Registry Manager icon, I get an error message that says in the title bar "Registrar Registry manager: rr.exe - Unable To Locate Component", and below that it says "This application has failed to start because OLEACC.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

After that though, the program does open just fine, but I get that error message consistantly every time I want to open it.

I did try reinstalling the program over the original, but that did not help. Then I uninstalled the program, then reinstalled it, but I still get the same error message.

I should mention that I run Vista Basic x64 and this program runs in the x64 Program Files.

Have any idea how to fix this?

Jan LaFata

A:Registry program error message

I don't know if I would agree to anything in that last post. Looking at google, RR.EXE is just your Registrar Registry program. Many of the people here don't agree with the use of any reg cleaners.

I guess I would first run a search on your computer and look for OLEACC.dll. If it doens't find it, then it's indeed missing. If it does find it, then you may have to replace it, because it's not working right if programs are asking for it. Either look online and try to download it, or copy one from another computer.

here your profile is limited on the normal user privileges.. meaning u cannot install softwares that adds new values to the registry. u need the administrator to add ur account under the security tab of each of the files, regedit.exe and regedt32.exe .. otherwize, see if u can get the local administrator password, login and install the program ..

or maybe a policy, .. start > run > type gpedit.msc and press enter.

I've been trying to search this, but all the solutions I've found do not work for me. I'm getting the error message "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" when I try to do pretty much anything. I've gone through some suggestions I found on other forums, and they either do not apply to Vista or they are unable to be completed because I get that message when trying to open anything up.

If I go to my menu and open IE by clicking on "internet" it will open, but that's the only thing I can do. I tried starting in Safe Mode and couldn't get it start that way, it did however take an extra long time starting up.

Can someone help me with this in simple terms? I'm not a big tech person, and it's even harder when my computer won't even let me go through with some of the fixes I've seen suggested. I've heard that antivirus programs and IE can be part of the problem...I'm going to try uninstalling AVG, but I've had that for a long time with no problems so I doubt that's going to work either. The only thing that's happened between my computer working and what it's doing now was an IE update. I don't want to uninstall that though because it's the only program that actually willl open up for me!

Also, windows keeps popping up with an update but it's not seeming to work...and there is an icon... Read more

My daughter is using the Scholastic Phonics Reading program, and I unistalled the program a few weeks ago (at least I thought I did) because of a different computer issue we were having. Anyway, having resolved that issue, I tried to reinstall the program. When I put the CD-Rom in and click on the setup, the install wizard comes up and I have a choice of playing the game or uninstalling it. I thought I had already uninstalled it, but hit uninstall anyway. It gave me the message: "could not open install.log file". When I hit play, thinking perhaps I had actually not uninstalled it, it gives me the error message, "handler not defined #quicktime version". Any help would be very much appreciated, as my five year old is very excited to get going on this software.

Hello, I'm back, I'm afraid.

I've had a little problem and it seems my Windows XP OS has got some errors but I don't know how to fix it.

One I've had is when I've tried to install/reinstall WM Recorder which installed fine in the past, but I now get the following message when I try to install it:

"Encountered a sharing violation while accessing [File path/File name]."

I've been in touch with WM Recorder support and they tell me it's a Windows error and not a program error. I am using a home, not work, computer and I'm the only user.

Another problem I've found is I've been playing one of my games and while playing a message popped up saying that it couldn't access a file and that it might be read only etc. and I think this is linked.

The only thing I can think of is a Windows Repair with my Windows CD. Is there another easier way to fix these errors?

For any program that I've installed recently and am using for the first time, I get a .NET Framework error message which says:

Please set registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot to point to the .NET Framework install location.

As I don't know much about the registry, I ran a google search with the error message and got a thread in another tech support forum saying that it was a virus. I ran AVG Virus Scan and got no problems and I ran my Registry Mechanic and it fixed the normal things, but the problem is still there.

Hey there,

Started using my freshly installed Windows 8.1 Pro this week...
After a few days I started noticing something odd and have no idea why this started happening.

When i go to a file (any filetype...i tried like 10..) and click "choose default program..." in the context menu, the following error message will always come up:

Sure i can go to Config panel > Select default programs etc.
But this is odd... since i am 100% confident it used to work fine before.
I already did a 'sfc /scannow' checkup with an original 8.1 Pro x64 image but it says integrity is completely fine.

Any idea what might be causing this?

Could it be a random piece of software i uninstalled which was perhaps freeware and did not state it was Windows 8 compatible, leaving a cluttered registry key which is affecting this command from my context menu?
(A little far fetched perhaps...but i really can't think of anything else).

I have Windows XP Home, sp2. I recently had to repair Windows XP, and when I tried to use Quicken 2005, it didn't recognize it. So I tried to reinstall Quicken 2005, got it installed once, but it wouldn't let me set up my financial institution. So I uninstalled Quicken, did all the things Quicken said I should do, to clean out any leftover Quicken files on my hard drive and registry. I have been working with Quicken for two weeks now, to no avail. It keeps coming back with the error message #1610, after it starts to install Quicken. That error message is "configuration data is corrupt, etc." Yesterday Quicken's tech support called me and we tried again. They even gave me another Quicken 2005 to use in case my cd was defective, still same message. They said they have done all they could. that they felt it was a Microsoft problem. I went into Microsoft and searched for that error message and yes, it is a microsoft error message, they state that, but give no solution to solving it. So I wondered if you all have come accross this and know how I can fix whatever the problem is. Got to be something missing in my registry or something. I can install and have installed other programs, no problem. Just Quicken 2005. Help!! Need my quicken. Thanks. Josephine Hudson

So earlier today I heard a song in a Youtube video that I wanted to find the name of so that led me to this software called: Tunatic.

After downloaded the setup file, I ran it but it gave an error: runtime error 216. The setup then closed.

Something about the error message didn't look like. It didn't look real. I googled the error message and found out that is was linked to a virus. Now I'm scared.

I did a quick scan using MalwareBytes and Microsoft Secrutiy Essentials and found nothing. I am currently doing a full scan using MalwareBytes.

Maybe the error message is an actual error but from what I found on Google, I was only able to find it being linked to a virus and nothing else.

So what do you think? Am I just worrying too much? Do you know of another cause for runtime error 216?

First and foremost about this, have you scanned your computer for Any sort of malware before / after doing this download as it may be infected, Just a thought

Secondly, what type of program are you trying to download, if its a simple program such as an AV , or a free game or something like that, from a trusted site, it should not be giving you an error such as that

if its an older exe file maybe it just won't work with your xp, Just a couple of thoughts to toss out there

A:Something points to an uninstalled program and I get an error message.

Hi heavydude You should never use "driver updater" programs, as they are dangerous programs that can damage your system, making it unable to boot.Drivers are "middlemen" between your OS (Windows) and your hardware (computer). They control and facilitate the interaction between Windows and hardware components, to deliver a "message", nothing more;Having all of your drivers up to date, all the time, will not improve the performance of your system, nor your computer. You cannot increase the hardware performance of a component over the current capabilities it have;Driver updates are released to fix a bug or an issue with a previous release of that driver. Not everyone with the same drivers will experience the issue, so if you are having no problems with the drivers you are running, you don't need to update them. "If it's not broken, don't fix it";You can download drivers for free from your computer/laptop manufacturers website, or from the hardware component manufacturers website. You don't need to pay for any of them, if you are being asked to pay for drivers it is likely a scam;Only drivers from the computer/laptop manufacturers website, or the hardware component manufacturers website are considered official (legitimate and working). You should not download drivers from anywhere else;Driver Updaters are a scam, they try to convince you that you need these programs in order to make your system perform well, which is false; It has been tested and proven that these programs will de... A:Shutting down get error message program failure to close

Let's find out which specific programs are the problem

Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming procedure, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.
After you've isolated the cause, do not use msconfig to permanently disable the process. Instead, if it is a service go to START - RUN and type: services.msc (then press enter) and disable the service OR, if it a program, you can download & run a simple app such as Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel ( to enable, disable, or otherwise manage startup programs.

I am trying to install a design program on to my Dell Inspiron 6000. When I install I am getting the following message.

The intel(R) chipset software installation utility requires a supported chipset platform running on a supported operating system. Check the system requirements section of the readme.text file.

Called the design software company and they told me I must have a problem with my motherboard? Can anyone give me some suggestions on how to proceed?

I am using XP on my computer.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hello Maussie,

After reading your thread here:

At what point are you getting that message? What did Ewido fix for you, by any chance did you save those scan results?

Click Start>Run and type in sfc /scannow (there is a space between sfc and /) and let it scan for missing/corrupt files. You may need your Windows XP Install disc so have it handy.

Let's try an online scanner:

Please run an online scan at *Requires Internet Explorer.
Make sure you click the "Free Online Virus Scan" in the upper right hand corner of the page under the Free use Activescan header. We do NOT want the default spyXposer scan. Click on the Scan your PC button & a 'pop up' window shall appear. * ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
Click On 'Scan Now'
Enter your e-mail address & click 'Scan Now' ...begins downloading Panda's ActiveX controls.- 8MB
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
* You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report. Click on see report
Then click Save report
Post the contents of the report in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Note: Please note that Antivir Webguard uses ASK Toolbar as part of its web security. If you remove ASK by using Adwcleaner, Antivir Webguard will no longer work properly. Therefore, if you use this program please use the instructions below to access the options screen where you should enable/DisableAskDetections before using AdwCleaner.
Using AdwCleaner is very simple. Simply download the program and run it.  You will then be presented with a screen that contains a Search and Delete button.  The Search button will cause AdwCleaner to search your computer for unwanted programs and then display a log showing the various files, folders, and registry entries used by these programs.
To delete these unwanted programs simply click on the Delete button, which will cause AdwCleaner to reboot your computer and remove the files and registry entries associated with the various adware that you are removing.  On reboot, AdwCleaner will display a log showing the files, folders, and registry entries that were removed.

Hi: my first post and I need help. It seems like I have a very nasty virus and I admit I feel very stupid.

I use Vista 32 bit Service Pack Two.

Basic Problem: I cannot open Word, Disc Clean up, RKILL, Malaware OR ANYTHING. That is because every time I try I keep getting a regular looking dialog box with this exact message:

In Blue Bar accross the top "Open With"
Then in grey area : "Choose the Program you want to open this file"
File iexplore.exe

Now in White area : Internet Explorer Microsoft Corporation (with the regular Microsoft logo)
Other Programs
When I hit the + These programs show up: Adobe, Media Center, itunes, Word, Notepad, Paint, Real Player

Of course none of these work. Then there is BROWS . . . IF NONE OF THESE WORK BROWSE THE WEB
AGAIN, nothing works

Steps I have taken to try to fix.

Run Internet Option to remove browsing. FAIL

Finally got the rkill--and got this message in my notepad :

Running uTorrent, you are high-risk for infection. If it wasn't the e-mail, it would have been something else, eventually.

Those are two of the malware. There's probably more. You can always assume that the only executables running from temporary and documents folders are malware.

I'm trying to install this free utility "Windows Sysinternals" on my daugther's laptop that I've been using for quite some time on my home computer. It works great with Windows XP. My daughter's laptop is a Dell Inspiron 640m with Vista install. I have no problem with the intallation and opening the program once it's installed. Then I go to the "Logon" tab in the program to see if some of the software can be removed from the startup menu. When I right-click one of the items on the list and click "search online" I get the following error message. "A previous install did not complete correctly. Finishing install." I've tried deleting the software and reinstalling and that doesn't work. I still get the same error no matter how many times I do it. I'd really like to be able to use this program to remove unneeded programs running in the background that are eating up valuable computer resources. Can you please help?

Suddenly started restarting, a millisecond of blue screen during booting sequence and restart again.
I tried to follow the Preparation guide recommendations and similar cases procedure but my computer is freezing also when choosing Repair Your Computer option. It freezes on initial screen of System Recovery Options displaying 'Select a keyboard input method:'. No mouse cursor, of course...
I do not have the installation disk any more. I will try now to download Win 7 Entreprise 64 bit and give it a try...
I can access the files using Hiren's Boot method (mini windows 7 bootable version). But in this situation I can run FRST only for this Operation System, not for the dead one... Mini windows 7 is 32 bit, even if computer OS is 64 bit. Is it a possibility to differently configure FRST to run for dead OS files?
What do you suggest to try in this situation?
Thanks in advance!

I've spent hours trying to install the Microsoft Home Use Program on my personal notebook PC at home with no success. My workplace enables me to purchase a licensed copy at a cheaper rate to put on my home computer, whilst I remain employed by them.

I click on the link to
Select the country "Australia".
Enter my corporate email address.
I enter the program code that work gave me.
I check my work email account and receive the email successfully.
I open the email which says "congratulations, you are eligible to purchase the home use program for $28".
I click on the green "Buy Now" button.

Then, this is where it all goes wrong.... Instead of taking me to the screen that allows me to purchase my license/product key and download the software to my PC, the screen reverts back to the previous one which asks me for my corporate email address and program code! I am going around in circles! There are no error messages.

I have tried turning off the antivirus program and I have tried cleaning and fixing my drives. I have a brand new ASUS notebook PC model PRO50G with stickers on it saying windows vista and intel pentium.

Can anyone please help me to install the home use program??! Thanks:)
