My IE does not run at all. I have tried 3 times uninstalling and re-installing both from windows add on components and by downloading the setup file from microsoft file, however the problem persists.
Also downloaded some ie fix tools (Repair Internet Explorer & one found here http://www.thewindowsclub.com/troubl...es-immediately) with no success again. Just run the IEDiagCMD.exe and again again again IE opens and closes
Disabled all addins, reset settings, deleted cookies nothing
Any suggestions??

I have worked on a friends laptop
windows 7

internet explorer opens and shows the outline of the dialogue box and then the page closes

I have done the following

Trying to re-install - message , version already on PC

Rebooted at various stages throughout
- Went to Turn Windows Features On and Off and un-clicked Internet 9
- Installed updates - removed IE10 and IE11 updates
- Ran the MSFIX - Microsoft Fixit 50778.msi, finished OK
- Ran "Command" as admin - and tried this command

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /upfname /norestart"

This failed with access denied

- After removing the updates for IE10 and IE11,

I was then allowed to install IE11 which took a while to fully install after the full installation and a reboot.
Exactly the same error occur

IE opens with just the outline of the PAGE and then timer shows for a while, then screen closes.

I have left my friend to create the recovery DVDs and then once created to do a system restore back to December. I just wanted to make sure that if there was a problem with restore, she had a recovery option.

She knows this problem has been on the pc for a while, and shes not sure if before or after the oldest restore point of 19/12/13

She has a full subscription to Norton 360 on the PC

Anyone have any suggestions please - it may take a while to reply, as she is travelling now,... Read more

Ok so I've had this problem for a while: When I click on Internet Explorer the window pops up for just a second and closes. I've searched all over every tech support forum there is and usually, HijackThis logs are involved so each solution is individual.

So here is my HijackThis log
(Note: When I run a scan I get an error saying 'For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file...')

My version of internet explorer refuses to open. When you double click to open it, a window flashes open and then closes immediately. I have run SpyBot S&D and removed any malware, but it still doesn't work.

Here is the Hijack This log. Please could someone take a look at it and see if they notice any problems.
Thanks

Every time i start my PC explorer will start and load my desktop icons and taskbar. Once it it loaded it will close it down and loops the process. I can bring up tasks manager and kill explorer to stop the loop, but starting explorer again through 'run' just puts it back into the same loop.

I have run Spybot SD which found items, i had them removed, then restart and still haev the same problem, ran it again and it came up clean. I've also ran AVG 7.5 and that has not improved the situation. Here is my Deckard's System Scanner log, please help!

My HP computer with a new NVIDIA GEFORCE graphics card is being very difficult. When the computer boots, windows explorer (explorer.exe) opens and shuts about every 10 to 15 seconds and never stops opening and shutting. In this way I cannot look through the files because they will close. I can still get programs to run such as hijackthis and virus scanning programs.I have some experience in removing viruses and things of that nature but this one is beyond me. I have a laptop with Windows 7 64 bit. The first few days I had it, Internet Explorer worked fine. Then it malfunctioned. When you double click the IE shortcut it would open for a split second then close. When you went to the Start menu, Programs, it would do the same.

I downloaded and installed IE 8 64 bit from Microsoft's website. When I double click the IE 8 64 bit shortcut it opens fine! The problem is, I can't set IE 8 64 as my default browser. I get a Windows error message that says you can not set IE 8 64 as your default browser.

So I can open IE 8 64 manually but any link I click tries to open IE 8 (32 bit presumably) which still opens then immediately closes.

Please help!

You're going to have to edit the registry to do this..

use regedit and modify the following
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\IEXPLORE.EXE
Change the value to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\shell\open\command
Change the value - "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" -nohome
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\https\shell\open\command
Change the value - "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" -nohome

Hi All

I've got to the slitting wrists stage of this problem. I hope someone can help...

I've been getting the blue screen of death recently and upon checking my computer's error logs I found that it was a problem with my Radeon graphics card. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Radeon software but the audio went. I couldn't find the audio driver (long story) so I did a system restore which worked - everything was back to normal. Or so I thought.

Next morning I tried to open IE but upon opening it closed immediately. I've done a bit of research (ON THE INTERNET AT WORK!) and have done a HijackThis log.

It may be a coincidnece but the other day my screensaver changed - it's now a black screen which says Oxigenscr V5.00.0000. Maybe this is a virus. Thank you for your help in advance

Eliminate interfernance from add-ons (IE) or non-windows startups (msconfig).

Same problem still?

Restore the foregoing and do an sfc /purgecache then do an sfc /scannow. (you need a disk)

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

This failed with access denied

I have left my friend to create the recovery DVDs and then once created to do a system restore back to December. I just wanted to make sure that if there was a problem with restore, she had a recovery option.

Hello, I have a friends laptop here and Internet Explorer will not open. When you try to open it, it just flashes the IE screen and then closes immediately. I have tried opening without add-ons, I have ran MBAM, SUPERantispyware, and Spybot. I have tried clearing the temporary files and resetting Internet Explorer. I have tried safe mode with networking. I have tried everything I can think of and cannot find anything, anywhere that works. Please help thank you.

It seems that I've been infected with some sort of virus which causes explorer.exe to close and then automatically reopen. This occurs even in safe mode so the only way I can work in safe mode is to use task manager to run programs. I cannot navigate my files because explorer closes so quickly. Also, I cannot work out of safe mode either, not only does the problem with explorer occur, but the computer freezes up if I attempt to run any program. My log is posted here, help would be much appreciated.

I went to my 'documents', then 'downloads' section to delete files and could only open those files with a picture, such as pictures my brother sent, video etc--many files have the Internet Explorer logo on the cover, when I click to open them the screen attempts to open then closes quickly..then it starts trying to open more, like a domino effect--my only option at this point is to restart the computer. A few times I had to simply hit the power button and not go thru the normal shutdown procedures. I can access the internet no problem, it's just in this one section where I am at a loss as to what to do.

My computer has gone crazy, and I cant use it, so i am sending this from an internet cafe.
Basically, it starts up, wont let me either open in safe mode to system restore, wont let me press[del] to enter start up mode.

Suggestions pls, I presume I need a boot disk, can I get one save it on CD and use it that way ??

All suggestions welcome, as I am stuck!!!

Thanks!

A:Xp Opens, Then Closes, Then Opens, Then Crashes Etc..

Hi puertorico, welcome to BC!A little clarification, when you say wont let me press[del] to enter start up mode do you mean that you can't enter the system BIOS utility (the thing that comes up before Windows) or that you can't get to the boot menu (where things like "Safe Mode" and "Last Known Good Configuration" are shown) by pressing F8 before Windows loads? If you have your Windows XP installation CD, then that's all we'll really need to fix this. If not, then there are some alternatives we can discuss.Post back soon!

Hey,
Been looking at my dad's computer for him, as always, a new problem for me to fix.
His printers had disappeared so i checked services and his print spool had stopped so I started it up, and it stopped again.
So I deleted the files in system32/spool/printers and started and it stayed on and then as soon as I go to print it closes.
So I then looked online, found reg fixes that might be the problem, checked them and nothing.
I have ran two different virus software and registry fix software on his computer and still nothing works, keeps closing!
Any Ideas?
At the moment I wanna throw the laptop out the window!
Running Windows 7 32-bit.

Thanks

Now it just starts up like normal except IE doesn't work. I click to open it and it pops up and then closes. I tried reinstalling IE but now it opens and stays at a blank page and won't respond to me trying to go to any sites.

Decided I needed IE to update optional updates so reinstalled IE. Updated to IE7. All installed ok BUT IE now opens, displays home page and shuts down within 1 sec of home page loading with no warning.
Probably not related or maybe is....system restore won't restore anything past 3 days ago!!

Otherwise system seems to be running ok!! Running XP pro sp3 dual core intel with 1 g ram
Not running slow, crashing or showing any strange signs.....No hang on thats not normal for windows is it?

Been using AIM on my daughter's laptop since she got it about a year ago. Out of nowhere, it now simply flashes open for about a half of second and then closes. I have done all of the following in attempt to get it to work again. Her account works fine on other PCs and she can use AOL Express on this particular one. But AIM will just open and close:

1) Uninstalled and reinstalled
2) Registery clean
3) Ran full virus scan. Uninstalled/turned off anti-virus
4) Reviewed all new programs and add-ons and uninstalled anything new
5) Deleted cookies, internet temp files
6) Restored Windows to an earlier point.

I am exasperated. I would reinstall windows but I can't find the disc at the moment. Any other ideas?

Help!

A:AIM opens then closes

Hi marcanat,

I'm going ahead and guessing that those "other PC's" are not Windows 7 machines?

There has been a few reported incidents with this over other forums aswell, and with no specific solution. It seems however to be related to a driver conflict, a driver/device not supported by the official AIM software. You could try booting up Windows 7 in Safe-mode (with or without networking) and see if the problem persists. Or you could check in the Eventlog and see if there are any posts related to this, might say what is wrong.

Otherwise I'd recommend you checking with AIM support(if there is any) to see if your system/drivers are compatible.

Hi All,

Internet Explorer (7 and 8) will open and close immediately under Vista Home Premium. I have tried the following:

1) Run IE in no adds-on mode. Does the same thing.

2) Reset all settings under the Internet Options Panel---when it gets to the third part 'Applying Default Settings' it fails.

3) Run Malware Malabytes in Safe Mode---nothing detected.

4) Install IE8 (wasn't working back when it was IE7), still no luck. Uninstalled back to IE 7, no working, and then back to IE8.

So, any ideas? I normally use Firefox and Opera, but there is one specific work-related website that requires some ASP scripting that neither Firefox or Opera can handle!

Thanks!

so if you could keep it simple would be appreciated.

A:IE half opens then closes

What do you mean 'half-open'? Can you elaborate a bit more? Does the IE window fill half the screen, and then close automatically, or does it load a webpage halfway thorugh and quit?

I'd suggest running a virus/malware scan first just to ensure that everything is clean. Update your anti-virus software and run a full scan.

Also, I would suggest trying alternative browers such as the excellent Opera or Firefox. Both are 100% free and IMHO, far superior to IE.

Its wise to make sure when you are doing updates and Service Packs to make sure the system is 100% malware free. With that said, why wold the SP3 not install? Did you recieve an error and if so what was the EXACT error message?

I suspect some sort of spyware. He was instructed by his Anti-Spyware program to delete a Reg-entry to remove a spyware program. I do not know the Anti-Spyware program nor the spyware he was trying to remove.

I had ACDSee 6 working fine. Then, I put in "Fujipix" photo reader for the Fujifilm digital camera I have. ACDSee 6 is now not working. When the program opens, it flashes on the screen for two seconds and then disappears. I can open a "jpg" file with the program, but the regular interface will not open, so I cannot "browse" to a folder or do anything else in the program.

I did the same on another computer, and ACDSee is working fine.

To get ACDSee to work, I have uninstalled Fujipix, uninstalled ACDSee, rebooted several times, gone through the registry and removed all references to both, reinstalled ACDSee 6, etc. Nothing seems to be working

I am running Windows XP Professional.

Any ideas on fixing this? Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately I need IE7 for a stupid little app I'm running. IE6 and IE8 just won't work with it :-(
Machine is XP MCE-SP3 and was recently formatted so it's pretty clean.
Anyway same old story, IE6 works...IE8 works...IE7 opens for 500ms or so and disappears.
The process closes so it's not an issue where the window is simply hidden.

What is the app that you are trying to run? Is there not an update that will work with IE8, or at least a bug fix?

When was the last time this program was working properly?

Hi, I'm having trouble getting Help and Support Center to open. When I went to Start and clicked Help and Support Center, nothing happens. I don't get an error message. When I opened Task Manager, I saw the process "Helpctr.exe" appear, but then it would disappear by itself. I have already reinstalled Help and Support from the Windows disk several times, but it didn't work. Any help would be appreciated.

Just put a new HD in, and did a clean install of Windows 8 RTM x64. Had it on previously, and all ran fine.
After this install, one issue I have is with the MAIL app on metro. I click on it, it opens, then closes. If I click on it in the top left of the screen on the open bar, its there, and does the same thing.
Any idea how to fix this?

You can try to run the following command to see if any DLL files are missing/damaged.

sfc /scannow

Try also the install folder of the app you use with IE7, if there is a DLL called PSAPI.dll
if there is delete it or rename the file.

IE 11 opens and then closes immediately. The only way to open IE 11 is to right click on IE shortcut, select properties, then set to open minimized. Then click IE 11 on toolbar, and it opens. Setting IE 11 to Normal or Maximized causes IE 11 to open then immediately close. I have removed then re-installed IE 11, ran malewarebytes and ccleaner but IE 11 still has the same problem. I turned off GP rendering. I am out of ideas, does anyone have any other methods to try?

Run CCleaner-Slim or CCleaner-Portable & remove everything it finds, then try IE11 again. If that doesn't do it, go to Internet Options > Advanced tab, then click the reset button located near the bottom.https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/b...

Hello I have had some trouble with my computer for a few months, a unknown program will open in my task bar at the bottom of the screen where the start bottom is and close. most of the time it happens so fast i can't even get a look at the icon just a flash on my screen, it will kick me out of full-screen if I am watching netfilxs or anything on itunes and kicks me from games as tho hit the windows key.

I am never ask if i want to run a program it it just does it own thing like it owns the place. I managed to get a look at it one because i was running a lot of scanning tools and the computer was running so slow that the program could not close fast enough before i got a look at the icon.

It had what looked like to be a gear something that looked like a external hard drive and some other thing I could not really tell what it(It poped up again and looked to have a camera a printer and a Gear not sure if its the same program or if i have two programs doing the same thing). I have ran every scan I could think of from 4-5 different anti virus programs and it pulls up nothing. I have thought about a system restore but i have lot of programs i don't want to re-download and have settings i want to keep.

My cdrom drive on my Compaq Presario 5000 opens and closes on its own accord. It is irregular in its opening and closing patterns and sometimes stays out and moves fractionally as if wagging a finger or sticking a tongue out. I ran Spybot, Adaware, AVG free version, AVG paid version, Sophos antivirus, Kaspersky antivirus, TrendMicro free scan, and Spyhunter and they found a few minor things but not the trojan or virus causing this to happen. I went to computer cops site and found a thread that mentioned this problem and they said that Compaq said it was viral and that the only way to eliminate this was to do a complete harddrive format and to physically remove the drive by unplugging the power and communication cables and re-installing the drive. I was running Windows ME and I did a complete restore using the Compaq restore discs. This did not help. Next I upgraded to Windows XPHome and removed the drive and re-installed, but this did not help. I know the complete restore and the XPHome upgrade did not completely format the harddrive, but I don't know how to completely format the harddrive because I am always working from within the windows applications. My questions are: do you know of any way to rid myself of this trojan/virus and if so how? If not, how do I go about completely wiping the harddrive clean and starting over with a like new harddrive? Thank you for your concern in this matter.

Hi. This is my first post on this forum and I hope that you all can help me out. My kids' computer has been lousy with virus and adware and spyware and the like. They use instant messaging to talk to their friends and I believe this is where all the issues stem from. I launched a campaign against this PC to clean it up. I've warned the kids to filter out the crud, but they just 'accept' 'accept' 'accept' any time something pops up. I should let them live with the consequences but I'm tired of them bugging me to use my PC because theirs keeps acting up. So anyway...I've been running Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware 6.0, Spyblaster, CWShredder, PC-cillin and a few other things to clean it up and it's been working for the most part. But I've run into a snag...

msconfig closes down as soon as I open it up. I have run HijackThis and below is the result.

My CD Tray opens and closes nonstop. I tried running a search and the general opinion seemed to be that it was a virus or some (very unfunny) April Fool's joke. I ran a detailed scan and found that my computer was infected with something called "Java/ByteVerify".

It took a considerable amount of time but I'm finally getting a clean scan. The "Java/ByteVerify" appears to be gone but the door is still opening and closing.

I found this suggestion:

"Just uninstall the drive by right clicking on my computer and go to drivers and click that one and then properties and uninstall, then restart your computer and it should work because it automatically reinstalls that driver."

I tried that but there are so many drivers listed that I don't know which one controls the tray. Do you know the name of the driver that controls the CD tray? Would you know what to do to make it stop opening and closing the tray? If it can't be fixed, can it at least be disabled?

I'm using a Dell computer with Windows XP.

Thanks for any help!

Hello,It's better to print out the next instructions or save it in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!Please set your system to show all files. As the title says, Google Chrome opens then immediately closes. I've tried uninstalling it but it does the same , the uninstall window will just close so i deleted all the files off the PC and tried to install it but again, when installing the window just opens then closes..

Has anybody come across this before?

Thanks.

A:Chrome opens then immediately closes

Hello,

Boot into Safe Mode and see if you can uninstall the program then try the reinstall.

If still does not work try creating a new user profile. Create a new browser user profile - Google Chrome Help

If still having issue make sure that your antivirus is up to date and perform a scan on the PC.

See the thread below and try the recommended fix. Hopefully this helps

Thought this would be a good place to ask this...if not, feel free to point me in the right direction.

I've had this problem ever since the first betas, thinking that it would eventually work or "be fixed"--but even the release candidate and now the final has the same issue.

When I install IE9, when I go to open up the browser (32 or 64), it opens for a split second and then immediately closes. Every single time. I've never seen IE9 open on this machine.

One of my thoughts on why would be that I have two hard drives in this machine--a 60GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. I manually edited the registry entry for default install location / program files location to the E: drive, or 1TB drive, so I don't mistakenly install programs onto the SSD and clog up its limited space. For 95% of programs this has worked out just fine, including Microsoft's own Security Essentials (even though I'd love to have the option to put it on the SSD, but there's no options on where to install it).

Anyone else run into a problem like this? Is there a better solution than reverting that program files change? Now that I've had Windows running for a while I imagine changing that record will cause some...not so nice issues.

EDIT: And I just checked--IE9 is indeed installing to Program Files on the E:\ drive.

A:IE9 opens for a split second, then immediately closes.

For IE crashing, you probably want to try starting it from the command line first to see if it works this way - start > run > iexplore -extoff. If so, you have an add-on causing an issue, and can disable them via autoruns.

Hi. I am running Windows XP on my desktop, and I usually use Mozilla Firefox for my browser. However, occasionally, I'll use IE. Over the past several weeks, every time I try to open IE, it acts like it is going to open, and then it closes again. I tried to open AOL today, and it did the same thing.

I download and scanned using Hijack This. I'm posting the log below, and I am in hopes that someone can help me soon. Thanks in advance!

Hello I have had some trouble with my computer for a few months, a unknown program will open in my task bar at the bottom of the screen where the start bottom is and close. most of the time it happens so fast i can't even get a look at the icon just a flash on my screen, it will kick me out of full-screen if I am watching netfilxs and once kicked me from a game as tho I had hit the windows key.

I am never ask if i want to run a program it it just does it own thing like it owns the place. I managed to get a look at it one because i was running a lot of scanning tools and the computer was running so slow that the program could not close fast enough before i got a look at the icon.

It had what looked like to be a gear something that looked like a external hard drive and some other thing I could not really tell what it(It poped up again and looked to have a camera and a Gear not sure if its the same program or if i have two programs doing the same thing). I have ran every scan I could think of from 4-5 different anti virus programs and it pulls up nothing. I have thought about a system restore but i have lot of programs i don't want to re-download and have settings i want to keep.

I am running windows7 and I built the computer if it makes a difference.
I Have the window 7 install disc but cant find the disc for my mother bored and GPU.

I am willing to do a system reinstall everything but im not sure if that will get rid of the program or if the windo... Read more

I am wondering if there is a way to make a popup for an application (balloon, notification, etc) from the system tray to stay open until the user manually closes it? I know that you can adjust the timing of how long they stay up but we have an application that we want a popup indicating a new communication to stay open on the desktop until the user closes it. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

A:Force popup balloons and notificaitons to stay open until user closes

You can set them to stay open (until user clicks close) for a maximum of 136 years. I suppose that's long enough.

Notifications - Change How Long to Stay Open

Option Two = Step 6

Time in seconds. For 136 years try 4294967295 seconds.

I click on the OneDrive icon on the Windows 8.1 Start screen and the app opens, then immediately closes. All other apps work OK.
I have tried the troubleshooters, reset the Store cache and uninstalled and reinstalled Onedrive but the problem continues.
Another issue that is probably related is, although the Onedrive app is installed on the Start screen, it does not show on "My Apps" at "My Account" at the Windows Store.
Like I said above, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the OneDrive app several times but the situation remains.

Hi,I probably have some infection in my computer and I read already some topics where I found similar issues. When I use google search it keeps redirecting me to some weird websites and I can not use Microsoct Security Essentials or Windows Defender, because if I open the program it closes after 1 second.I installed Malwarebytes but it doesn't find any infections and because I already read some topics I decided to run Combofix. Trying to clean up a custom built system that had a ton of malware and and trojan virus infections.

The system clock was running two years behind and TrendMicro 2005 was either expired or corrupted so I installed AVG free and AdAware SE Personal to clean it all up. Seems to have gotten everything but what looks like the T.V. Media infection.

I've tried the MS tool and it reports that T.V. Media isn't on the system. Killbox reports the same as hijackthis, that it can't delete mad.dll even in safe mode.

Sometimes if I delete all the cookies, offline files and reset the web settings under programs in IE properties before starting IE it will stay open and can be used until it is closed. Most of the time it closes itself as fast as I can open it.

Thanks.

I'm having a problem with my computer that I just can't seem to solve. I first noticed while online I am having trouble typing in the address bar. When I attempt to type the text will highlight or delete itself. For example it I type www. It will highlight or just show ".w". Also the screen has a steady flicker. Typing in search boxes for yahoo or Google seems to work fine. I have also noticed that when I click on the start menu that it will not stay on. I comes on for a split second then closes. It gives me almost no time to open programs or anything else. Most drop down menus do the same. Another thing, anything highlighted in any program has a steady flicker.
What I done so far is to scan for a virus or malware with Spybot, Malwarebyte, Ad-Aware and AVG and so far everything is fine. . I'm running Win XP SP3 Intel CPU, 1.60 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM.
Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.. Thanks

Hello. I hope I am doing this correctly. I am running Windows XP (SP2) and am having several problems. When opening IE, I get a slide in called Internet Speed Monitor, I have no idea what this is and it doesn't show up in the control panel. I have also noticed that IE will open and/or close by itself, although this has pretty much quit after completing the required steps before posting the Hijackthis log. Below is a list of what I have done along with the Hijackthislog.1. Cleaned all temp. files out.2. Ran Ad-Aware - Had 410 privacy issues with the first run and 0 on the second run.3. Ran Spy-bot - Had 7 issues with the first run and 0 on the second run.4. Ran Trend-Micro Housecall - 51 infections all cleared out.5. Ran Panda Active Scan - Found over 200 cookie files, however, they were not removed (I removed them manually)6. Ran Bit Defender - 0 problems found7. Ran AVG Virus Scan - 0 problems found.8. Made sure Windows update was done.** I wanted to mention that after I completed the items above, I noticed that upon log on, I get an error message that says, "SQL Server Installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (Could Not Open SQLEVN70RU)Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 4:48:16 PM, on 12/28/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16574)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS&... When I click on "MyComputer" or "Control Panel" from Startup button in Windows XP, a window opens for less than a second and closes.

I ran McAfee Virus Scan as well as Norton Antivirus scan. Virus was not found on my machine

During bootup time, XP used to take lot of time but deleting prizesurfer decreased the bootup time.

I have 2 DVD drives, one is a Pioneer 112 SATA and the other is a LG H20L SATA Blu-Ray drive. One is on the motherboard RAID controller and the other is on a RAID card in the PCI slot.

All of a sudden I have had a really odd problem, both drive trays open and close on their own and without me touching anything. There can either be a CD/DVD in or not, it makes no difference. They open seperately but both open and close. Sometimes the tray can stay out for 5 minutes and then closes, other times it opens and closes loads of times in succession. It is a bit like gremlins, the drives have a mind of their own, I can't work out the link. I have tried pushing in the power cables, I have tried shutting down the net in case of a virus, I have virus checked, and nothing comes up. I have searched the net for an answer but previous people who have had the problem have never seemed to get an answer, most replies are about a stuck eject button, but this happens to BOTH my disc drives.

This didn't happen before I got the LG 4 days ago, but at the same time it didn't happen until about 2 days after it was installed, so it wasn't immediate.

I run Windows XP Pro SP2, 2gb ram, I have lots of software, and the new drive came with about 10 items of DVD software. I have tried to shut down anything I see that may cause the problem, like CD/DVD software running in the background, but again nothing helps. It is so odd how sometimes the drives can open and close like mad, then ... Read more

My guess would be Malware of some kind, perhaps you should post a HijackThis log.

Please read this before posting a log :- http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/622404-posting-help.html

Yesterday I formatted my hard-drive and re-installed windows 7. The biggest problem I've been having is that the gadgets I'm used to and rely on won't boot at startup, and if they do they usually go away within 40 seconds, or I get lucky and they don't go away at all. I'm pretty sure there's no chance of this being caused by a virus as the only websites I had visited before I realized this problem were extremely trusted ones like Intel, Asus, and malwarebyte's website, and while I was waiting for things to install youtube. This machine has actually never had a virus on it (being only about a month and a half old)

I HAVE DISABLED ALL (non microsoft) STARUP SERVICES AND PROGRAMS(including my antivirus Microsoft Security Essentials) USING MSCONFIG, THE PROBLEM STILL PROCEEDS EVEN WHEN THE GADGETS ARE THE ONLY THING SCHEDULED TO START.

I've also found a couple error logs, but this happens even when this error doesn't appear.

A:Solved: Gadgets either never open, or opens and then closes

I suggest that you pop-in the Windows 7 DVD again, boot the PC from the DVD and choose the repair option.

Do this and let us know if the gadgets are back.
