Optiplex 5040 PXE Deployment Issue | WINPE5.0 Boot Image SCCM 2012

Q: Optiplex 5040 PXE Deployment Issue | WINPE5.0 Boot Image SCCM 2012

Not able to get the PXE working on 5040 . It will download the boot image from SCCM DP. Once it downloads it will not boot.
Network driver is already part of the Boot Image.

I'm having a hard time imaging Windows 7 on these Optiplex 5040's that come with the Lite-On NVMe HDD's using SCCM.
Here is what I have done already.
1. Inject KB2990941 and KB3087873 into my wim file2. Add the Intel Chipset RAID/AHCI Controllers version from the WinPE 10 Cab off Dell into my boot image.3. Tried imaging using Legacy/MBR.4. Tried imaging using UEFI/GPT.5. Tried RAID and AHCI.
The issue is that after downloading the image rebooting to start configuring Windows, Windows 7 at the logo screen locks up and reboots.
I am thinking this is a driver related problem with the 5040 cab file. If I do not install model-specific drivers for the machine, at least I am able to get into Windows and logon locally, but the imaging process does not complete because there are no network drivers. Unfortunately, there hasn't been an updated driver package since May.
Has anyone experienced this?Reference Articles:

I am using the Windows 7 x64 Driver CAB in SCCM 2012 to deploy drivers to the optiplex 7040.
The "Apply Driver Package"  step is failing when trying to install the drivers, i receive the below error messages

CBS - Failed to unload offline registry ntuser.dat ACCESSDENIED
Unfortunately it doesnt give me details of the driver that is failing, otherwise i could just package the driver and apply it as a package.
All other builds are deploying fine so its definitely something thats only affecting the dell model, am using a 64 bit boot image already.
anyone seen this before?
I've seen some other posts which mention to use a 64 bit boot image which i already am, and this boot image works fine on all other hardware models.

Hello all:
A couple of weeks ago I received a 7270 for deployment testing. My company currently runs SCCM 2012 SP1 (not R2/no CU's) with the ADK for Windows 8.0 and we deploy to a variety of Dell laptops including the 7240 and 7250. When I tried to boot the 7270 using our existing boot media it did not detect the network adapter.
I downloaded the latest WinPE driver pack from Dell, injected the drivers into our boot image, and still no luck. I then created a WinPE using the ADK for Windows 10. Booting from this image also resulted in the network adapter not being detected, but when I injected the Dell WinPE drivers manually it finally showed network connectivity.
Figuring the necessary network driver is definitely in the WinPE driver pack from Dell, I have tried several different tests to get the driver into our boot image for OSD to no avail.
Is anyone else testing the 7270 and having any luck?

A:Deployment issue with Latitude E7270 from SCCM 2012 OSD

We have SCCM 2012 R2. I was working on E7470 the other day and the I219-LM drivers found from Lenovo did the trick for both E7470 & 7270 models. Just import them, and add to your boot image.
It should be under here after you extracted the executable: C:\yada...\PRO1000\Winx64\. The NDIS62 and 65 folders in particular helped to get me going. (win7x64 and win10x64)
Though, there is still lots of work to be done to image these 2 guys w/o errors...Dell+MS...Sigh.
Good luck.

We are trying to install Windows 7 x64 on a Latitude E7470 with SCCM 2012 R2. We downloaded the CAB from Dell ( and created a driver package from this like we always do.
The TS fails right after the drivers for the system has been applied. When I press F8 and type IP config I see that it is getting a 169.x.x.x IP address. If I try to renew the address with "ipconfig /renew" it updates to a valid IP. I tried to add this to the TS and now it fails when the applications are about to be installed (error 0x80004005/unknown error). If I check the IP now it shows a valid IP.
We have no issues with all other Dell models we are installing.
I have tried with two different E7470's to check if it was faulty hardware but it is the same on both machines.
Anyone else having trouble with this model?

A:Deployment issue with Latitude E7470 from SCCM 2012 OSD

I used a driver grabber software (ConfigMgrDriverGrabber) to grab the drivers from one of the preinstalled E7470's. Then I imported those to a new driver package and it works now.
Something is wrong with the driver pack from Dell but I don't know what...

We are working to move our base OS to Windows 10.  I am able to image a Optiplex 7010 with no issues but having issue with Latitude 7470s.  I am able to PXE boot  to the Task Sequence list.  It kicks off fine, and the OS deploys without an issue.  The issues starts after the first reboot, the task sequence starts up again but fails once a Task Sequence needs network access.  We use Apply Driver Packages to deploy our drivers.  I have tried the Dell Drivers CAB package, the Intel drivers package, no driver package, and deploying all drivers.  Nothing has worked.  I have manually installed the drivers from the Dell Support page after failure and they apply fine.  I added those to the driver package but it still does not work.  I need to get this resolved ASAP.

I have spent days of troubleshooting this deployment . It is still crashing with BSOD 7b when booting Windows 7 x64 for the first time.
Chipset: Intel Skylake
HDD: Liteon CV3-8D128-11 (Main suscpect, cannot find any drivers for this one)
Hotfix KB2990941 & KB3087873 are installed

I have successfully deployed WIndows 7 to a different Skylake computer with a Samsung drive. Help is greatly appreciated.

We have many different models of dell computers and we image with sccm 2012 successfully on all lines BUT we're just getting the 7040 line and they fail upon disk partitioning component of the task sequence. I finally found the proper drivers for the network and now it fails consisitantly on setting disk partition variables.
I have resorted to bypassing all partition info and set it to install the OS to the next available formatted partition (which does exist) and still come up with the same error. 80070002 which is a very generic error. It is not the driver but something to do with the hard drive or maybe the compatibility or even UEFI (which we have set to legacy mode). We are not using UEFI.
The OS is win 7 Enterprise but it never makes it to copying the OS. It fails on the disk partition. they are seagate 500GB drives with 16GB RAM or 8 GB RAM (same with both).

I am trying to reimage a number of EliteDesk 800's and am using an Offline OSD from SCCM and deploying by booting up from USB and deploying the image from the USB Key as an automated Task Sequence. The image is Win7 64bit Enterprise. The USB keys and Task Sequence are definitely working on a number of other machines but are having a problem with the EliteDesk 800. The task sequence keeps restarting the PC and getting stuck in a loop. I think that it's being cause by the UEFI environment because I see a Win8 start screen for 20 seconds as the machine restarts and before the Task Sequence kicks in again. Picture is attached. I have turned off Secure Boot and disabled UEFI plus enabled legacy boot.Has anyone encoutered a similar issue ?  Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks everyone.

I am having all sorts of trouble imaging a new Dell 5570 laptop with custom Windows 7 SP1 Ent. through SCCM.I have tried Dell support and their assistance so far hasn't been satisfactory unfortunately.

First: I had issues booting the laptop with my boot image, SSD was not recognized. I had to import Samsung NVMe drivers into boot image for the SSD to be recognized and to kick start task sequence.
Now: The task sequence doesn't go through. Immediately after 'Set up Windows and ConfigMgr', the laptop reboots and crashes with the error '0x0000007B'.

I have already tried below with not much success.

Dell Diagnosis says no faults detectedSATA Operation set to AHCI, RAID on in BIOSBoot sequence set to Legacy, UEFIWith and Without 5570 drivers after applying O.SWith and Without KMDF, UMDFDifferent WIM files-one recently updated with most hotfixes, one updated last year, one close to vanilla Windows 7 SP1 Ent.
Any help here is much appreciated please as I have around 20 laptops already procured from Dell and waiting to be imaged before deploying.

I am using WDS to deploy my images. I know its a driver issues. I have managed to get the computer to half boot passing the driver error message in MDT but when I apply the network drivers to the WDS WinPE I have I am still unable to get this to boot it errors up about the network connection.
I know the drive that MDT loads is --> PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_15B8&SUBSYS_06BA1028. I know the windows driver is Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (2) I219-V.
I have tried the WinPE boot drivers and direct from Intel. I have download 5 different versions of the this drive and tried x86 and x64 and still not able to get the WinPE to boot.
Has anyone else had this problem and managed to fix it?

I'm trying to successfully deploy Windows 10 on a Dell OptiPlex 790 in my lab environment in order to push Windows 10 out to several of these PCs currently in production. Despite the fact that Dell does not offer a driver pack for Windows 10 for the 790, an upgrade to Windows 10 using the Windows Update method works fine; however, when I run a LiteTouch install, the keyboard and mouse do not work unless I am using a PS2 keyboard and mouse.

Upon further investigation, I found that the "USB Root Hub" device drivers are not properly installed on the deployed OptiPlex 790. My steps for a solution thus far have produced no meaningful results. I have tried the following:

1. From a working installation of Windows 10 on an OptiPlex 790, performed a full driver backup/export and imported into MDT 2013 Out-of-Box Driver folder for model-specific-injection task sequence. After deployment completed successfully with 0 errors and 0 warnings, the drivers are still not loaded and keyboard/mouse are nonfunctional.

2. Created an application package to silently install Intel Chipset during the LiteTouch OS installation, which includes the proper USB drivers for the OptiPlex 790. Results are the same; yet if I run the install after deployment, the drivers are installed successfully.

I'm just about out of ideas on this one, but I KNOW there has to be something that can work. It doesn't make sense that a manual install of the chipset can produce positive results but the same cannot... Read more

A:Deployment Issue - MDT 2013 / OptiPlex 790 / Driver Injection

I have a Dell OptiPlex 360 with Win10 and a Dell OptiPlex 755 with Linux Mint 17.2, both older and are the standard size cases. I've found with most computers that have the PS/2 ports also require a BIOS setting to Enable Legacy USB to get built-in support for USB 2.0 ports and USB keyboards and mice plugged into them. So far I've not seen BIOS support for USB 3.0 ports, have required software installed in/supported by the Operating System. Because of the change of some motherboards in leaving off the PS/2 ports I have changed my KVM from the PS/2 type to USB type.

"Failed to find the current TS configuration path"  (if I F8 during the process, I can't even get an ip address).

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

I have a new Optiplex 5040 for evaluation for customer rollout that is reporting approx 1G usable RAM less than our current Dell 7010's. Both system run win7 in 32bit mode.
When I use device manager on the 5040, view->'Resources by connection' and select the memory tab, I note the at physical address A4000000 - 7FFFFFFF there is a PCI bus, but the intel HD graphics 530 mapped in this space starts at E0000000.
I'm concerned about the gap between A4000000 and E0000000 compared to what I see on a 7010 or 7020.
Is it expected that HD Graphics card is mapped so far into the A4000000 range on a 32-bit system?
Maybe the gap between A4000000 to E0000000 is expected, if so, Where has the extra 1G gone?
Can I move the HD Graphics 530 closer to A4000000?
Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

We have been replacing workstations at our college with OptiPlex 5040s. We are running Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64. We use SCCM to image and have the latest Deploy OptiPlex 5040 Windows 8.1 Driver Pack loaded so the audio driver is current.

There have been many reports of students not getting audio from their headphones in the labs that have been upgraded to OptiPlex 5040 model. When I would head over to a lab and test a few random PCs (because the reports I was getting didn't include actual station designations), they would all work fine. I would plug in my 3.5mm plug earbuds and would get the audio popup asking what type of device I plugged in. Headphones is the default and so I would click "ok" and a few seconds later, the audio controls in the Windows taskbar would re-enable and sound would work fine through the headphones.
What I discovered was that if a student used USB headphones and then left the lab then another student comes in and plugs in 3.5mm headphones, they will not work unless the run the "troubleshoot sound problems" option from the task tray.
Anyone else experience this issue? Hopefully Dell is aware of this issue. All of our previous OptiPlex models had two audio ports (mic and headphone) and never seemed to have this issue.

Hello All,
got an issue hoping to find some help. I am attempting to deploy a VPN connection during a task sequence SCCM OSD deployment. I can get it to drop the PBK file in to the app data folder in either user or programdata however I need it to come up as shared and accessible at log in thus enabling off site log in to the domain using the VPN for first log in. We are using Windows 7 64 bit and SCCM 2012 r2.  After copy the VPN does exist and is listed in rasphone however doesn't appear in network connections..  If there is a script I can use to create the connection that would be fine I am just not sure how to do that being I need it to be shared/available at log in.
I am also in need of a script that will set a computer name using WMI identifying number/serial number.  I am not running MDT in conjunction with SCCM.  So gather is not an option OSDcomputername doesn't seem to work.  Currently I have this but it errors out (shown in bold)

We're deploying Windows 8.1 to our public computing labs right now. This is the first time we're doing mass deployments with SCCM and we've run into the dreaded sysprep error just after applying the image. I think we've
narrowed this down to drivers but can't seem to figure it out. As an example, *almost none* of our hundreds of Optiplex 9010s will accept the image, yet hundreds of other models (Optiplex 7010, Optiplex 9020) accept the same image without issue.

I saw plenty of other posts about this error but I don't think this could be an unattend file or sysprep issue. Why would it work on some machines but not others?

Has anyone experienced a similar issue?

Thanks in advance!!

Sysprep could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass [specialize]. The settings specified in the answer file cannot be applied. The error was detected while processing settings for component [Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup].

Log Files:
Will post separately.

A:SCCM Windows 8.1 Deployment - Sysprep could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass specialize

For those with a similar issue -

This turned out to be a driver problem for us, as suspected. In speaking with Premier Support, we dug through the CBS.log on a failed machine and confirmed it. In CBS, we traced the setup process to where drivers get installed and found a couple failures
(network, audio, etc.). Setup failed immediately after that process.

We were under the impression that our device drivers were current in SCCM, however they were not. In SCCM, we were ignoring driver import errors while using the Dell Command Deploy Utility for CABs. The errors were a result of the 2008 site server's inability
to recognize the newer Windows 8.1 drivers. We applied KB 2837108 and KB 2921916 to the site server and re-imported drivers. The sysprep error went away after this.

Greetings, we received our first charges of Z440 workstations last week. We immediately downloaded the HP Z440 driverpack from and imported those into our System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2. Of course we did use the Win 8.1 drivers to inject into our boot image and wie normally imported the Windows 7 drivers for the Windows 7 deployment.Well, unfortunately SCCM WinPE5 does not show any drives installed, even with the correct drivers installed. We even tried to import  the WinPE 5 driver pack and the drivers from SoftPaq download manager, but none of those seemed to work. Is there any known issues with Z440s drivers and SCCM? Please help me out on this, it's pretty urgent. Thank you & kind regards

Dear all,

Sattelite Z series laptops cannot install OS (win 8.1) from our SCCM 2012 R2 environment.

Either no installation is starting, or pxe boot aborted error is showed.
The environment is used to successfully install OS (win 8.1) on different other vendor computers (dell) and virtual machines (hyper-v and vmware).

I've tried both UEFI and CMS boot options and tried to switch off the secure boot. Please advice.

Also, i've read about the "SCCM installation package for Toshiba". Will it help in my situation or is it just driver packages for SCCM?

Best Regards, Evgeny.

A:Satellite Z930-14F - cannot install Win 8.1 from SCCM 2012 R2 environment

I guess you are speaking about this Toshiba package:

I don?t have much experience using such SCCM drive package but it definitely compatible with the Toshiba business notebooks. The Satellite / Portege Z930 belong to the business range and I think the package should be compatible.
This package seems to be for all IT administrators who manage devices on the corporate network with SCCM 2012 R2. Toshiba offers with the new Toshiba SCCM package a solution to integrate other notebook into an existing IT infrastructure quickly and smoothly and all Toshiba Driver and application packages and a demonstration task sequence are integrated.

However, it seems that you could get more details about this package directly from Toshiba [email protected]

By the way: The Win 8.1 installation requires the UEFI mode (in case the UEFI BIOS is available). But booting from another, external source requires the disabled secure boot option.

I have been banging my head on the keyboard for three weeks with this one.
I built a 2008 R2 server with SCCM 2012 on it, connecting to a SQL 2008 server. They talk fine with each other.
SCCM has the boundary and boundary groups set up. I have ad discovery (tried with and without subnets) and those work.
Auto installing the client upon discovery works.
The clients find their MP and know their site code. All clients show approved (automatically) in the console - mpcontrol log lists 200 OK

The logs show that they prepare their scheduled eval and send it. When I initiate a hardware policy update, I can netstat and see the connection on various ports to the server
I ran wireshark (OPNET) and initiated a reinstall and can see communication between the client and the server and the server and the sql server.
Everything seems to work correctly, I find some errors in the logs, but nothing that jumps out as the cause.
The problem is all clients have components listed as not installed and only machine and user policy retrieval listed.
In the console, the clients show Client Check - no results, nothing under Hardware or Software scan
I have research THOROUGHLY on the internet on all logs as well as the issue I just described, tried a million things, redoing webdav, ccmclean, etc)
Any thoughts - they would be greatly appreciated!

actually I want to update IE9 to IE11 on all machines via SCCM 2012.
Therefore I built a package with IEAK 11 and integrated all IE11 prerequisite updates ( to install before IE11 is installed (altogether 9 updates).

Afterwards I deployed the Full installation package (MSI) with SCCM 2012.
On some test machines the installation works just fine (silent). After a restart at the end of the installation updates are configured and the next time IE11 starts.

On one machine the installation stopped because of the following error (from IE11_main.log):

02:15.690: ERROR:   Error downloading prerequisite file (KB2729094): 0x800b0109 (2148204809)?
02:16.267: INFO:    Setup exit code: 0x00009C47 (40007) - Required updates failed to download.

At this point I wondered why this prerequisite update (KB2729094) should be downloaded, becuase I already integrated it with IEAK11!!!??? And also when I examine the IE11_main.log I can see that there are still other updates that seem to be downloaded even
if I integrated them into the IEAK11/Full installation package in order to be independent of prerequisite downloads!!! Attached the full IE11_main-log:

When I am running my deployment for Win7, the last couple systems have returned a memory error when going though the pre-application round of Windows Update. The error pauses the deployment and the system needs to be manually restated before it will continue.
When this error occurred before, I added a task to install SP1 before Windows Update ran. This no longer seems to be working sufficiently. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? My thought was to modify the ZTIWindowsUpdate file to only install a limited
number of updates in a given pass, but I have no idea how to do this.

I have an optiplex 9020 that has a blinking cursor for about 10 to 15 seconds before the Dell splash screen and after the Dell splash screen. I have the latest BIOS and am using an SSD as the boot drive and SATA drive as a secondary drive, The bios is set to only boot the SSD. I have the sata operation set to AHCI, the RAID is disabled. This is a clean install from the Dell CD onto the SSD. I have looked through the bios but not seeing anything that would cause the issue?

A:Optiplex 9020 boot issue

Same here right out of the box.  In my case, having only the SSD in the boot list, gives "no boot device" most of the time.  Entering the BIOS, the Liteon SSD will no longer be in the list even after adding it back and resaving.  Updating the BIOS does nothing to fix.
But hitting F12, the SSD will always be an option and when selected, always boots.  So it seems to be some kind of initialization timing when the BIOS looks at the various hardware.

The Imaging plug-in for HP Thin Clients can only be used to deploy images and has no capture facilities. You can however, capture a custom image using HP Device Manager or ThinState, and then deploy that image using the SCCM plug-in.

Hi All, new to the forum,

Has anyone had any joy using the DISM image deployment tool,

below is the message i get trying to capture an image

DISM doesn't recognise the command-line option "d:\thinimage.wim"

I've tried the below.

dism /capture-image /capturedir:f:\ /imagefile "d:\thinimage.wim" /name:"MyCompany"

I've checked this over and over and i'm defiantly following the line they require.... any ideas? Thanks.

A:Win 8 Image Deployment

I know nothing about DISM, so please check what I say first...

...but looking at the format of the command line, I wonder if there should be a colon after /imagefile?

so replace
dism /capture-image /capturedir:f:\ /imagefile "d:\thinimage.wim" /name:"MyCompany"

dism /capture-image /capturedir:f:\ /imagefile:"d:\thinimage.wim" /name:"MyCompany"

I have a licensing question regarding the deployement of Windows 7.

We are currently purchasing notebooks that have an OEM key for Windows 7 Pro and have been configuring each by hand which can get really annoying. I want to create an image of Windows 7 and use it for deployement however I'm not too sure about the licensing involved.

First off, you cannot image an OEM version and you need an open license version, correct?

Do I need to purchase a VLK license for each notebook that I want to image to? Or can I just purchase 1 open license and image that to multiple computers since the OEM key is in fact for Windows 7 Professional?

A:Image Deployment of Windows 7

I believe you're going to need to look into VLK if you're intending on using the same key & installation across multiple machines. You "may" be able to get away with buying one 7Pro and then inserting the individual OEM key that is on the individual laptop stickers, however I'm not sure on that one so don't quote me there. I'm sure someone else here does know this answer though so sit tight, some one else will surely be able to answer this.

Aside from the licensing issues, once you get the version of Windows that you'll be installing legally with a licensed key, you should look into windows sysprep. It will cut your distribution time down incredibly using this method rather than setting up each machine individually from scratch.

Hi have a query

i want to dpely windows 7 across around 10 PC's but minimise user downtime, as such i intend to install manually using retail versions of the software then update to the specifications i need. all the final workstations will need to be the same.

i have 3 pc's to roll out, then i will drag 3 in, upgrade, redeploy and so on, thus meaning that noone will loose much productivity to downtime.

whats killing me is that after install, which takes around 30 mins including office and other bits of software, the patching and updating of windows on each machine to latest KB updates is taking forever!! so with say 10-15 new pcs all trying to install updates within few hours its going to slow the network to a stop.

is there anyway i can take one of the pc's i have finished, image the updates and software installs then patch them all onto a new clean install of retail windows 7????

i have looked at all sorts of networkable options such as microsoft system essentials or symantec ghost, but none will allow a stand alone image creation off network that i can tell

thanks in advance for any advice

I work for a large bookstore with a relatively small IT department, and we are looking for a way to image and restore a small number of PCs. Basically, I want to set up a master template PC, build an image of it, then be able to deploy that image over a Microsoft network from a server computer and/or from a bootable CD (pretty standard, I guess).

However, I want to be able to do this without having to install an imaging program on the master PC (preferrably to run the imaging software from a shared drive, because installing the imaging software on the client machines would violate the license agreement) and without booting to DOS from a floppy disk (the server machine doesn't have a floppy drive).

We're considering a few solutions for this: Acronis TrueImage 7, Imagecast 4.6.1, Altiris RapiDeploy, or Norton Ghost 2003. Will any of these solutions perform what we're looking for (I've been through the manuals for each and it seems like they can't add a client agent without booting the client machine into DOS or running the software from the client machine)? Does anyone have any suggestions from personal experience to use these or other products to accomplish this task?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I am having a VERY odd issue with Windows XP Pro and Tablet PC Edition.

I have been following Microsoft's Single-Image Deployment Supplemental Guide which discusses single-image deployment and how to use this process to deploy Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 in your organization while using your existing Windows XP Professional image.

I followed the article to a T and imported all the Tablet PC components in the Sysprep directory and then re-syspreped the box. At first once mini-setup finished the system would lock up on the Windows XP splash screen about the 3rd time the progress bar cycled through. So I went to Safe Mode and everything worked like a charm. So just as a troubleshooting step I tried to use Safe Mode with Networking. That locked up at the splash screen in the same spot which lead me to believe it was a networking issue. So I disabled all listed networking adapters and tried to boot into normal mode.

Once I saw "Applying Computer Settings" I thought all was good. So I waited until I saw the standard "Press Cntrl-Alt + Delete to Login" screen. So I hit cntrl alt delete and nothing happend. So I tried moving the mouse, and to my amazment, the entire computer is hard locked. This is happening everytime I reboot the computer into Normal mode and the login screen appears. So I tried to go back into Safe Mode with Networking to test that theory again. Although I am able to get logged into the system the system actually hard lo... Read more

I'm attempting to follow this guide to capture a Windows 7 image:

I have a test PC with Windows 7 installed on it waiting to be captured.

I've installed the MDT 2013 Update 2 and Windows ADK for Windows 10 to my technician PC.  Unlike this guide, however, I have no tree under 'Deployment Shares'.  So I have no option to import an OS.

This seems to be a stumbling block to actually capture an image.  Is there something I'm missing?  Is there something that needs to be configured that I don't know about?  I'm still learning this whole process so it's entirely possible there's
something glaringly obvious I don't see.

I am working on setting up an image deployement solution. The current problem I am having with Acronis Snap Deploy 3.0 is that when I try to deploy an image it deploys normally and Snap Deploy does the extra setup before Windows loads to a logon screen. The problem I am having is after I log in, windows is missing the "Vista" theme and whenever I try to click on anyting (Computer, Documents) It gives me a popup messege that has a title of "Explorer.exe" and in the messege it says "class not registed." I cannot figure out why the image is not working. I am deploying it onto the exact same computer I made the image from. It was a clean install of windows Vista Business.

To make the image I loaded the master computer into the Acronis software using the Acronis PXE server. I then imaged the computer and the image was put directly on the imaging server.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi There,

I found this forum thru KariTheFinn's YouTube Videos which are superb! My first post is a problem that hunts me since quite some time now. I startet too more or less ignore it since it was only a problem with one program. But since I switch mail clients it's now also a problem there. But first things first.

I have a Hyper-V Service running on my Windows 10 Machine for toying around. In there I was trying to create my personal perfect Windows 10 Installation with all the Apps, Tools, Settings, etc. I like and want. I did all of this in my created user account Yves. So all the settings from many apps (for example Chrome) are in this user profile. After I was done. I shutdown the Hyper-V Machine Boot up the WindowsPE.iso. And dism the complete machine to a mapped network drive. Than I created a new Hyper-V Machine booted directly into WindowsPE.iso. Diskpartet the complete system like I like. 100MB EFI. 1GB Rescue. 50GB System Partition. Dism the image back to the System Partition and bcdbooted the System Partition. Bootet up and tada System is "almost" like I left it before on the other VM. Only thing missing are for example Chrome extensions and settings. Which I can not figure out why this happens? Newly since I moved from em Client to Outlook 2016. Also Outlook 2016 does not like the dism'ing around. It says .ost file has to be deleted.

Anyone an idea why this is happening and how I can prevent it?

Thanks for your help guys.

I don't want to use any third party application to capture and deploy both WIN and Linux images. I can use SysPrep to capture Windows image, but how do I go about capturing Linux image?

I don't know how to tell if this is a problem with the unattend file itself or having something to do with changing the deploying operating system in the task sequence.

Our University has purchased Ghost 8.0 and we are succeeded in pulling images. After installing all softwares, we have pulled images of all model computers (6 different h/w configurations all working on Windows XP).

But we are facing problem in pushing the images.

How names and work group of computer can be changed. I know by using sys prep but I cant find the option for network configuration (diff work groups have different computer names) ?

I have MDT 2010 setup and am in the process of setting up a 2nd share, I created the share with no issues, and created the "link" without issues as weel. I am now trying to get the linked share to replicate, and am getting an error that the "everything" profile is not valid, when it does exist on the new share. I even tried creating a new profile and setting it to that one, still get the exact same error. Has anyone else seen this?

A:MDT 2010 linked deployment share issue

Figured it out, if this ever happens to you, delete and re-create the 2nd share (the one you want to replicate too) then re-create the link and update. Something must have gotten corrupted.

Not really sure where to post this question so if there's a better forum just let me know.
We bought a new HP Color LaserJet Pro M452dn printer and I set it up today.  Installed it on my printer server and set it to deploy using group policy.  Seems to be working fine on our Windows 7 desktops but I have a Windows 8.1 workstation and
it isn't deploying.
Since it is the day after patch Tuesday I decided to run Windows Updates and interestingly enough the printer shows up as an Important Update.  Ok, so I tell it to install but it fails with an error code of 80070490.
Searched for help with that error found a few suggestions, running sfc and dism, but so far none of that has helped.  I also tried deleting the port thinking since I had used it in the past it may need to recreate it, didn't help.
So I'm stumped, I've rebooted the computer dozens of times, even turned it off for a while, no help.  I even manually installed the printer to see if having the drivers pre-loaded would help but it didn't.
Any suggestions?  Anyone run into this issue before?
Thanks in advance,

Hi all!

I've encountered a little problem. I have multiple sites in several country where needed to deploy win10 with different language and keyboard settings.

Everything else is fine, all other countries are OK but czech and poland.. I need to apply keyboard setting so that cs-CZ (pl-pl) is default, en-US secondary.

I've configured unattend.xml file so that inputlocale is cs-CZ; en-US (pl-Pl; en-US).. it should work.. ? Well it doesn't. I've tried also with: 0405:0001045; 0409:00000409.. .Still same.. In OS there is only czech keyboard.. Of course I can add en-US keyboard manually but I need to have it automatically.. Why en-US won't be there seen automatically in list? Also when adding manually en-us then UI lang will change after re-login to cz-CS (I haven't applied any other ui lang than eng in unattended.xml)

I have input locale configured in 4 Specialize and 7 oobeSystem in xml file.

I'm using Win10 1511 ent x64, SCCM is CB..

Any ideas?

OK, I think I've wasted enough time, now, so I'm turning to "more capable" expertise than mine (obviously)..
As the subject line implies, I've been backing up Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) to a network drive dedicated to backups (in fact, this 5 TB drive is named "PCBackups"...).  And since it made sense to have Win7 also create a 'backup image' as it performed the weekly backup, my thought was that if this scenario was to happen to me (first time with this Dell Opti, I might add...), I could save myself the 'grief' of having to install Windows "from scratch", the 400+ updates to both Windows and MS Office, all my software, all my documents, all the 'mapped drives', the network printers...etc.etc. ... ad infinitum...
So, two nights ago, the SSD I had installed in this 'rebuilt' OptiGX755, took a nose dive, so I picked up another at the local retailer (IMHO, it's amazing how inexpensive these have now become..Wow!) and I've been trying to figure out how to get this image back on the new SSD as 'easily' as possible.  But, after wasting WAY too much time trying to figure this out myself (with no success), I just have to ask for some help...  No matter what I've tried, I simply cannot 'boot' from the "System Repair Disk" that was created, and then successfully access the network-shared resource (which is this 5 TB disk) in order to make this happen..  So - ... I'm using MDT to deploy a custom image of Windows 7 to an OptiPlex 7040 with an NVMe SSD. The imaging process goes fine until the first reboot. Windows fails to load and gets stuck in a reboot loop. I know this is because of incompatibility between Windows 7 and the Skylake/Braswell chipset and the drive. I tried injecting the Microsoft patches for Windows 7 and NVMe drives with DISM, but that didn't work. MDT has the latest drivers for the 7040 that are available on Dell's deployment site. I followed the procedure here:
The problem with that is the chipset drivers from Dell extract to an executable, not driver files I can use to inject into the WIM file. I have the USB3 drivers, just need the ones for the chipset. Maybe that will help. Has anyone else come across a solution to this?

I have inherited my environment and am trying to understand what the previous tech did to set up our windows deployment the way he did.

I have a winpe boot usb.
When I boot to it, runs a file called startnet.ps1 (powershell). I am then prompted for my admin credentials.
It then prompts me for an image on our network (WIM file). I can browse the the wim files from anywhere and I can select Win 7, 8.1, 10 (Enterprise licenses).
It asks what disk I want to install on.
It asks me for a drivers folder to install drivers for that specific model of computer or laptop (on the network).
It asks if it is an unattended install or not
It finally asks to confirm.

It then begins to install the OS, drivers etc and prompts for nothing.

I have looked at the boot USB, but cannot find anywhere where it is saying to go to a specific place on our network; or even the name of the network.

But it all works flawlessly.

Can anyone suggest as to how this was done? I'd like to learn to duplicate this going forward.

Thank You

I cannot get my Samsung PC running Windows 8.1 to boot up after some efforts to clone the dirve to an external hard drive. I downloaded and burned to a PC (on a different PC obviously) Microsoft's WindowsPE deployment software from their site. I put the DVD in, turned the PC on. I can hear the DVD spinning, but it just stays on the black screen that says "Samsung" and their logo, and does nothing. Will not boot up to anywhere. Is there ANYthing I can do other than reinstalling Windows, which I really want to avoid, as I have irreplaceable photos on the original hard drive.....I know, stupid for not backing up to begin with.
Can anyone help?

A:PC wont boot, Win 8.1, even with WindowsPE deployment

If you were trying to clone the drive to an external HDD, what were you using to achieve that? Did you change the boot sequence in your BIOS to boot from an alternative to your HDD? If so, you should try changing it back.

To be safe, I would recommend using a Linux Live CD to boot into the OS, locate your photos, and then back them up to an alternate media. Afterwards, make sure you have multiple copies of the photos stored in different locations.

I'm looking for some kind of "official" Microsoft documentation or TechNet article explaining the proper process for injecting Windows Updates / Hotfixes into a Windows WIM image to allow me to deploy a version of windows that already has all (or at least
most) of the current windows updates.
Does anyone know if such a document exists? Or perhaps someone from Microsoft can respond to this post with some well documented steps on how I would accomplish this?

A:Windows Update / Hotfix Injection into Windows 7 WIM image for Deployment

WSUS Offline Tool

Download the WSUS Offline Tool and extract to another working directory, e.g. "C:\wsusoffline"
Run the "UpdateGenerator.exe" tool.
Select the version of Windows you wish to update, e.g. "x64 Global" under the Windows 7 category.
Optionally select to use a WSUS server on your local network with the "WSUS..." button.

Press the "Start" button. A command window will appear displaying the progress of the utility. The updates are downloaded to the "./client/w61-x64/glb" directory within the "wsusoffline"

I am looking for the best route to do a Windows Live Mail 2012 from "windows essentials," migration of email, contacts and accounts.

First, NO "live messenger" login is used, so all this stuff is resident on the old disk image. No part of the "live/online/cloud" portion of this is used. It is 100% local with POP3/SMTP account(s) for each user(s).

Second, I have an image of the old HD of WP7SP1 and all the "user" folders.

Lastly, the goal is to suck in the old email, contacts, and accounts from the old WLM setup and turn the system back over.

New system, with a complete new install for WP7SP1 (8 or 10 is not a choice here, due to users preferences, and I respect that, they are not options). Everything else all old software, printers etc. has been reinstalled fresh from CD's... The last thing I need to do is copy over old data files, and this WLM thing. The old data files (docx, etc. no issue), I don't use WLM or WIN for that matter on a regular basis so I've not clue on what the best route to move this stuff is.

I've seen various things about copying this or that folder(s), etc..

Export/Import is NOT an option as the OLD system will NOT boot, it dies at some point due to something, and WLM won't run in "safe mode" out of memory or some other error pops up every time.

Is there some program that can be run on the new system and suck in the WLM setup for each user?

Changing programs is just not in the cards ... Read more

I want to filter driver packages on WDS  so that they only deploy when a particular image is used. I am deploying Windows 7 Sp1 64bit via a WDS 2012 R2 server.

One of the options on Driver Filtering is by Image ID. I used the technique described here to find the image ID and apply filters to my driver package:

The drivers do not deploy when the Image is used. I have double checked the drivers (when filtering is off they deploy without problems).

Has anyone else been able to get Filtering by Image ID to work, if so please help let me know how you obtained the ID and what i may be doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Having an interesting one.

Deploying a Windows 10 custom image using WDS/MDT.

Using a Dell XPS 13 9350 and the Dell USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter.

I'm able to boot to PXE, load Boot.wim to access my MDT task sequence, which then starts without issue.

The OS is installed, drivers are loaded, then it reboots to boot into Windows and complete the task sequence.

Once its booted into windows 10, the USB network adapter fails to initialize, shows that its failed installation in the device manager even though the device shows as having the correct driver. Unplugging and plugging the adapter back in allows the usb network adapter install and then I'm able to continue the task sequence which has another 2 reboots but doesn't have the issue again.

I've verified the correct nic drivers are being injected for the adapter but it just fails.

Log shows that its failing to load the driver for the usb nic.

This whole process works fine on other hardware I am using. I'm not seeing any driver conflict at all.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

Hi, just so I don't destroy my setup I Like to ask if anyone else have restored their system from a image made by Acronis true image home plus Livecd 2012?

My setup is the following:

Windows 7 32 bit on 1 HDD with the following NTFS partitions: Partition 1(Reserved for system - Bootloader), partition 2(C: windows), partition 3(E: Data and backup).

Now, I have made one incremental image including Partition 1 and 2 + MBR, but not partition 3 - and backed this up to Partition 3.

What I'm curious about is, if True image without any problems can restore partion 1 and 2 + MBR without destroying Partition 3?

Or if I should leave MBR out?

Is there any problems with drive attributtes, like bootable partition?
I have used Norton ghost for years, ever since the first Dos version, and never had any problems - the problems come with Vista and up because of the bootloader partition.

Hope someone already have tried this and can answer my question - Please, I know it should be possible, but I like answers from someone already tried this or seen it done, because theory is one thing and practice another.

With kind regards

I have a Dell Optiplex on the way from e-bay and I would like to go ahead and order some more ram so they get here about the same time but I am having a hard time finding out what ram chip to get for that model.

I normally don't have a problem looking up the correct ram but I am getting suggestions for PC-2-5300 and PC-2-6400 as well as some others. I know that it uses DDR2 but the rest is confusing me. I understand the chip speed such as 667mhz or 800mhz but the rest I am unfamiliar with.

Could someone please tell me what type of ram chip I need to get? I am going to get 1mb sticks so I don't care if they are exactly the same as what comes with it because it only comes with 215mb of ram so if I get one with a faster speed then it won't matter cause 215 mb is nothing for ram. Please help me with what ram chip to put in this unit if anyone can and thanks.

A:issue with dell optiplex usff 760

There is no way to know for sure. Typical causes of shutdowns, as you noted, are the power supply and motherboard. The only way to truly "test", is to swap one or the other and see what happens.

The fans "buzzing" (ie: running at full speed) is common for some PC's as the PC boots.

I'm running WinXP w/SP2 on a Dell OptiPlex 740. I have an application that requires a barcode scanner to be connected and configured (via serial) to COM2 only. By default, the 740 has COM1 which I was able to manipulate and change to diplay COM2. Also, I changed the interrupt request to 4 and I/O range to 02E8-02EF. This configuration works... until I reboot the computer. At that time, the printer is no longer recognized by the application and it appears that Windows has reveresed the IRQ and I/O settings that I previously set. I have tried rebuilding this machine with Win XP but still get the same issue. Is this a problem with the HAL? A similar set up worked fine on OptiPlex GX150. The HAL on the 740 is currently set at ACPI Uniprocessor PC. Should I switch to Standard PC HAL and avoid the virtual IRQ setup altogether? Does anyone have any suggestions on this?

A:Dell OptiPlex 740 Com port issue

Creating a hardware profile after you have the configuration working and
using that profile to boot may retain the settings.
As it is now, windows is booting to the default profile.
To create a hardware profile
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure.

Open System in Control Panel.
On the Hardware tab, click Hardware Profiles.
Under Available hardware profiles, click Profile 1 (Current), and then click Copy.
Type a name for the new hardware profile, and then click OK.
You can customize your new profile by enabling or disabling devices for that profile in Device Manager. For more information about Device Manager, click Related Topics.

To open System, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
The profile named Profile 1 (Current) provides a model for you to create new hardware profiles. It will not appear in the list of available hardware profiles shown during startup.

I have an Acer Aspire 5040 laptop. Today it started to get very hot and then began switching off randomly. Now I can't even get through the log in process before it shuts off. I do clean the dust out regularly but I suspect there's a nasty build up on the cpu fan. However....I can't get access into the casing to have a good look and I can't find a service manual for this model (I've tried user manual but that doesn't help). What I'd like to know is a) is it worth getting a can of compressed air and blasting it as best I can through the vents and b) does anyone know how to actually get to the cpu fan?

I have a problem with a batch of Dell optiplex 980's, for some reason the Main boards fail at a alarming rate.

According to Dell it is the memory controller that fails.

Error Lights 1,3,4 are on nothing on screen, power led solid blue about 10 error beeps!

Dell tech replaced the main boards and all is fine for a while but same problem persists.

Also according to Dell level 6 tech, it could be over heating, I had some fun proving them wrong, two PC's sealed in a box , hammering them, Temp between 85 Celsius - 90 Celsius in the sealed enclosure, optical drive started melting, cooled the PC's for a day and powered back on, no problems!!

Does any one out there maybe have a issue similar to this on the optiplex 980, main board failures?
