Internet Explorer opens then closes

Q: Internet Explorer opens then closes

Ok so I've had this problem for a while: When I click on Internet Explorer the window pops up for just a second and closes. I've searched all over every tech support forum there is and usually, HijackThis logs are involved so each solution is individual.

So here is my HijackThis log
(Note: When I run a scan I get an error saying 'For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file...')

I have worked on a friends laptop
windows 7

internet explorer opens and shows the outline of the dialogue box and then the page closes

I have done the following

Trying to re-install - message , version already on PC

Rebooted at various stages throughout
- Went to Turn Windows Features On and Off and un-clicked Internet 9
- Installed updates - removed IE10 and IE11 updates
- Ran the MSFIX - Microsoft Fixit 50778.msi, finished OK
- Ran "Command" as admin - and tried this command

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /upfname /norestart"

This failed with access denied

- After removing the updates for IE10 and IE11,

I was then allowed to install IE11 which took a while to fully install after the full installation and a reboot.
Exactly the same error occur

IE opens with just the outline of the PAGE and then timer shows for a while, then screen closes.

I have left my friend to create the recovery DVDs and then once created to do a system restore back to December. I just wanted to make sure that if there was a problem with restore, she had a recovery option.

She knows this problem has been on the pc for a while, and shes not sure if before or after the oldest restore point of 19/12/13

She has a full subscription to Norton 360 on the PC

Anyone have any suggestions please - it may take a while to reply, as she is travelling now,... Read more

Have you tried it after booting in Safe Mode?

Has it also been tried without any add-ons?

My version of internet explorer refuses to open. When you double click to open it, a window flashes open and then closes immediately. I have run SpyBot S&D and removed any malware, but it still doesn't work.

Here is the Hijack This log. Please could someone take a look at it and see if they notice any problems.
Thanks
Ade

I have a laptop with Windows 7 64 bit. The first few days I had it, Internet Explorer worked fine. Then it malfunctioned. When you double click the IE shortcut it would open for a split second then close. When you went to the Start menu, Programs, it would do the same.

I downloaded and installed IE 8 64 bit from Microsoft's website. When I double click the IE 8 64 bit shortcut it opens fine! The problem is, I can't set IE 8 64 as my default browser. I get a Windows error message that says you can not set IE 8 64 as your default browser.

So I can open IE 8 64 manually but any link I click tries to open IE 8 (32 bit presumably) which still opens then immediately closes.

Please help!

A:Internet Explorer opens then closes

You're going to have to edit the registry to do this..

use regedit and modify the following
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\IEXPLORE.EXE
Change the value to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\shell\open\command
Change the value - "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" -nohome
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\https\shell\open\command
Change the value - "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" -nohome

I have tried opening without add-ons, I have ran MBAM, SUPERantispyware, and Spybot. I have tried clearing the temporary files and resetting Internet Explorer. I have tried safe mode with networking. I have tried everything I can think of and cannot find anything, anywhere that works. Please help thank you.

Eliminate interfernance from add-ons (IE) or non-windows startups (msconfig).

Same problem still?

Restore the foregoing and do an sfc /purgecache then do an sfc /scannow. (you need a disk)

Hi All

I've got to the slitting wrists stage of this problem. I hope someone can help...

I've been getting the blue screen of death recently and upon checking my computer's error logs I found that it was a problem with my Radeon graphics card. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Radeon software but the audio went. I couldn't find the audio driver (long story) so I did a system restore which worked - everything was back to normal. Or so I thought.

Next morning I tried to open IE but upon opening it closed immediately. I've done a bit of research (ON THE INTERNET AT WORK!) and have done a HijackThis log.

It may be a coincidnece but the other day my screensaver changed - it's now a black screen which says Oxigenscr V5.00.0000. Maybe this is a virus. Thank you for your help in advance

I was able to remove them all except one, MyWebSearch. Other than my issue opening Internet Explorer, I am not experiencing I am using another computer to access this forum and post my log.

I went to my 'documents', then 'downloads' section to delete files and could only open those files with a picture, such as pictures my brother sent, video etc--many files have the Internet Explorer logo on the cover, when I click to open them the screen attempts to open then closes quickly..then it starts trying to open more, like a domino effect--my only option at this point is to restart the computer. A few times I had to simply hit the power button and not go thru the normal shutdown procedures. I can access the internet no problem, it's just in this one section where I am at a loss as to what to do.

Every time i start my PC explorer will start and load my desktop icons and taskbar. Once it it loaded it will close it down and loops the process. I can bring up tasks manager and kill explorer to stop the loop, but starting explorer again through 'run' just puts it back into the same loop.

I have run Spybot SD which found items, i had them removed, then restart and still haev the same problem, ran it again and it came up clean. I've also ran AVG 7.5 and that has not improved the situation. Here is my Deckard's System Scanner log, please help!

My HP computer with a new NVIDIA GEFORCE graphics card is being very difficult. When the computer boots, windows explorer (explorer.exe) opens and shuts about every 10 to 15 seconds and never stops opening and shutting. In this way I cannot look through the files because they will close. I can still get programs to run such as hijackthis and virus scanning programs.I have some experience in removing viruses and things of that nature but this one is beyond me. My only theory is that the virus or whatever you would like to call it is trying to create a shell over windows unsucsessfully. Thanks for any helpLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 1:51:44 PM, on 6/18/2008Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\RTHDCPL.EXEC:\Program Files\HP DigitalMedia Archive\DMAScheduler.exeC:\Program Files\HP\... It seems that I've been infected with some sort of virus which causes explorer.exe to close and then automatically reopen. This occurs even in safe mode so the only way I can work in safe mode is to use task manager to run programs. I cannot navigate my files because explorer closes so quickly. Also, I cannot work out of safe mode either, not only does the problem with explorer occur, but the computer freezes up if I attempt to run any program. My log is posted here, help would be much appreciated.

Hello. I hope I am doing this correctly. I am running Windows XP (SP2) and am having several problems. When opening IE, I get a slide in called Internet Speed Monitor, I have no idea what this is and it doesn't show up in the control panel. I have also noticed that IE will open and/or close by itself, although this has pretty much quit after completing the required steps before posting the Hijackthis log. Below is a list of what I have done along with the Hijackthislog.1. Cleaned all temp. files out.2. Ran Ad-Aware - Had 410 privacy issues with the first run and 0 on the second run.3. Ran Spy-bot - Had 7 issues with the first run and 0 on the second run.4. Ran Trend-Micro Housecall - 51 infections all cleared out.5. Ran Panda Active Scan - Found over 200 cookie files, however, they were not removed (I removed them manually)6. Ran Bit Defender - 0 problems found7. Ran AVG Virus Scan - 0 problems found.8. Made sure Windows update was done.** I wanted to mention that after I completed the items above, I noticed that upon log on, I get an error message that says, "SQL Server Installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (Could Not Open SQLEVN70RU)Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 4:48:16 PM, on 12/28/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16574)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS&... It sounds like something is horribly wrong with what ever you actually downloaded.
it should not respond or do what you are describing,
->> that is responding like nasty malware usually does...
I would stop trying to open it and tell us the full name of exactly what you downloaded,
with the link to where you got it from.
when you download something like that you should manually scan it with an anti-virus program.

I have already run a complete virus scan with adaware, malwarebytes, and super anti spyware. I am quite honestly at an impasse... please help.

Hello,

I'm trying to find help with Internet Explorer 6.

When I go to some pages, inespecific, all the windows of Internet Explorer that were opened suddenly closes.

I don't receive any error message, the program just finishs.

I'm using Windows XP Professional with SP2 and all the OS updates up to date through WindowsUpdate site.

I suppouse that Internet Explorer is damaged or corrupt, so I tryed re-installing SP2, but the problem continues.

I'm using Zone Alarm Free Edition and Avast Home Edition.

I've scanned the system with Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy but they couldn't find any problem.

I executed Hijackthis v1.99.1 but I can't identify any suspicious (I'm not expert). So I attach the Log File for your evaluation.

Please, any help will be very useful.

Thankyou

My computer was fine up until 2 days ago. Now everytime I open Internet Explorer, it closes immediately whether I click on the program's shortcut icon, click on an image file (ie is default viewer for my jpg's), click on a link, etc. To get on the net, I have to open a "My Computer" window and put in a url into the address bar. I am using Windows XP Pro with sp2 fully updated. McAfee Virus Scan online. I checked for adware using multiple programs and also completed several virus scans with different programs. All coming up clean. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello,

Recently, internet explorer started to close without warning on it's own, and then occassionaly an audio would start to play. I am not sure where the audio is coming from...sounds like a radio program, but there are no visible IE tabs at the bottom of the screen.

thanks

My internet closes down for reasons I don't understand and the prompt takes me to advanced settings/performance/Data Execution P (something) Program?

Anyway, the choices are to turn it on, or turn it on exept for...and then you have to choose what you don't want, but that doesn't work either because it won't accept internet explorer.

I don't understand what I'm reading trying to figure it out, so can someone help me. Obviously, I don't know much about computers, but I'd rather try than be mad that it doesn't work and pay someone to fix something that shouldn't be broken.

A:DEP closes down internet explorer

Hello Spalau, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You may have a IE add-on that is causing this. Resetting IE may help.

Hope this helps,

My computer has gone crazy, and I cant use it, so i am sending this from an internet cafe.
Basically, it starts up, wont let me either open in safe mode to system restore, wont let me press[del] to enter start up mode.

Suggestions pls, I presume I need a boot disk, can I get one save it on CD and use it that way ??

All suggestions welcome, as I am stuck!!!

Thanks!

A:Xp Opens, Then Closes, Then Opens, Then Crashes Etc..

Hi puertorico, welcome to BC!A little clarification, when you say wont let me press[del] to enter start up mode do you mean that you can't enter the system BIOS utility (the thing that comes up before Windows) or that you can't get to the boot menu (where things like "Safe Mode" and "Last Known Good Configuration" are shown) by pressing F8 before Windows loads? If you have your Windows XP installation CD, then that's all we'll really need to fix this. If not, then there are some alternatives we can discuss.Post back soon!

Have you looked in Event Viewer for any errors?

1. Click on Start -> Run
2. Type eventvwr.msc then hit enter. (Alternately you could start it from computer management)
3. Review all errors and warnings in 'Application' and 'System'.
4. Look for any related to either IE or Firefox (or other unexplained errors)
5. Double click on the item to open "properties". Click on the Clipboard icon below the navigation arrows. (Looks like two sheets of paper text)
6. Open notepad or other text editor, right click in notepad and select "paste".
7. After pasteing, hit enter twice to double space, minimize notepad to tray.

Repeat the above procedure for each error entry, opening notepad which is now in the tray and paste, double space and return notepad to tray.

To post: at top of notepad select "Edit". In the Edit menu select "Select All", then in Edit select "Copy".

Come back to this thread, right click in the reply box and select "Paste".

When I open Internet Explorer on my windows XP sp2 laptop it starts up, shows a dialog asking me if I would like to restore the last open pages or just go to my homepage. I have tried both options but the results are still the same. When I click either of the options the homepage starts loading but then the internet window dissapears. The iexplore process is still running though.

I have so far uninstalled/reinstalled IE 8 on the computer, tried to run it with add-ons disabled, cleaned my computer with MBAM and done a virus scan with my antivirus and restarted the computer several times. So far nothing has helped.

The only other info I can give at this time is that when I have gotten through to the internet explorer main window (that is, choose wether I want to restore or go to my homepage) a new iexplore.exe process starts up, my main window dissapears and the small iexplore.exe process closes again, leaving only the original iexplore.exe process running.

Thankful for your help!

On my computer (running Microsoft XP) there are four users. My user is the only account that this does not occur on. In the other three cases when Internet explorer is launched and before it can even open the home page a pop up appears saying that Internet Explorer has experienced a problem and has to close. This happens on all three users but mine is fine. There is no chance to do anything because it immediatly follows the launch. In one case for one of my users the Explorer freezes after I select to send or not to send an error report. I don't have any explaination as to what is causing this and don't understand what has changed because earlier in the day everyone was able to access the internet. Also, it isn't a problem of user privaleges because all except one of the four accounts on the computer are Administrators.

Help is greatly appreciated ASAP on this issue.

P.S. I did just realize that this has occured after updating to the new IE8. Not sure if this is the problem or not.

Hi
When I click on any ie icon, the window opens and starts to load, but it closes after a few seconds with no error messages or anything.

I can use mozilla, but if i click on a link, the status bar says jumping and then changes to an address that starts with http://fe-search.com/. it usually jumps to myspace website or ebay.

If I type in an address (avoiding links), my ie browser will open a webpage after a few minutes (and every few minutes after I close a copy) that is on the my space page. This window doesn't have file menus etc on it, just the address bar.

Windows defender and Panda antivirus don't detect any problems.

Does anyone know how I can stop this?

Thanks for your help

A:Internet Explorer stops and closes

Try this solution: Right Click on My Computer, Choose 'properties', Choose the 'Advanced' Tab, Click on 'Environment Variables'.

Here create a new Variable withe the name of:

_NT_SYMBOL_PATH

And the Value of:

symsrv*symsrv.dll*f:\symbols*http:* //msdl.microsoft.com/download/symb* ols

Restart, and see what happens. If that doesn't work, you can always install Firefox 3.0 to access the Delta site until you can find a solution. Good luck.

Also, when it crashes, do you get any error message or it just closes explorer right down.
Can you check your event viewer and see if an entry was generated for the crash under Application?
Start > Run > type "eventvwr" without quotes and hit Enter.
Select Application and check if there was an entry for the time/date that it happened.

My sons laptop is running Vista Home Premium.

On start up it is displaying a message stating:
Error loading C:\Users\NICKAN~1\AppData\Local\Temp\fccdbXPj.dll
The specified module could not be found.

A further window appears stating:
The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run thsi software?
Name:...\AppData\Local\Temp\xlvqbjwhe\ccsnvaidlta.exe

We have closed both of these windows using the x in the top right of the window.

When trying to launch Internet Explorer, a window immediately appears on top of the browser window stating:
Internet Explorer has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
This is closed by means of the "Close Program" button in the window

Any advice / help will be warmly received.

Thank You

A:Internet Explorer continually closes

Hi Wizard99,

First of all, run your anti-virus software to make sure the computer is not infected with a virus. Then, try opening IE in No Add-on Mode. To do this, close out of IE and search for "Internet Explorer" from the Windows Start Menu search and choose "Internet Explorer No Add-ons" from the list of results. If IE is working in No Add-on Mode, you'll know that the issue it being caused by an add-on and you can try disabling add-ons until you find the culprit. If running IE in No Add-on mode doesn't help, try resetting IE settings by opening IE > going to Internet Options > clicking on the Advanced tab > and choosing Reset. These two steps fix most issues in Internet Explorer.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Is there any diagnostic software that you can recommend to diagnose my problem?

From time to time Internet Explorer closes down on me saying it has hit a problem opr else it just fails to respond. Also, from time to time, Outlook is unable to connect to one or both of my e-mail services with an error message suggesting I have entered the wrong address for them. This can happen when the system is first started or after it has been running and successfully retrieving emails for some time.

The former problem is usually, but not always, cured by restarting IE. The latter is sometimes cured by re-starting Windows but sometimes requires me to turn off the power and ?crash? the system ? something I hate doing!

I am using a modern Dell PC which has never had the cover removed ? so I am fairly confident of it. Windows XP home edition is version 2002 with SP2. IE is version 7.0.5730.11

I connect to the internet using ADSL and a modem/router. Unless this is a recognised software problem my suspicions will fall on the router. Should I replace it without further thought?

I?d be grateful for any advice.

Hi Guys - I really hope you can help me with my problem. On certain URL's internet explorer just closes - www.ba.com - is just one example. I get a very brief sighting of the page then IE closes, with a "plop", back to my desktop
I suspect it is some Spyware, Adware or Malware but I have run a complete scan with Norton Anti Virus, Spybot, Adware, MS Beta Spyware, Ewido,Ccleaner and HiJackThis but my problem still exists. I have run the scans both normally and in safe mode.
I have included the results of my recent scan with HJT hoping that you may be able to see what may be causing my problem.

The last week or so I have been experiencing problems with IE. If I click on a new tab, 9 times out of 10 it shuts the window completely then gives the generic "windows has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. It's infuriating me at the moment, I have no idea what has caused this, I installed a new printer a couple of weeks ago but I can't see it being that?!?

I wonder if there's a way I can repair IE?

So whenever i enter the home page the program will shut itself. I also use Firefox as web browser and it doesnt do the same thing. Any help will be appreciated.

Internet Explorer opens fine, then without warning, after varing amounts of time (not necessarily right away), it closes unexpectedly. No error message. This does not happen under my username. I have reinstalled Java, do I need to do that on both "sides"? Otherwise the laptop works fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, For the past few days Internet Explorer closes anytime I try to open it after just a few seconds. Typically the page doesn't completely load and I get an error message which says, "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." And it says that an error report has been created. I have tried repairing IE but that did not help. I recently installed CA's Internet Security suite, updated and ran the anti-spyware and anti-virus programs. I also updated and ran Adaware within the past 24 hours. Everytime I double click on the shortcut to Internet explorer (doesn't matter which one, they all do it), the web browser opens. The page begins to load and within 5 secs it just closes. No error pages. nothing. If I open a web browser and click on my Yahoo toolbor's mail button fast enough before the page closes, i can get around the problem and then use the internet, but this is exceedingly frustrating.

Sometimes at random the web browser closes and the error message that allows you to send a message to microsoft shows up. This happens randomly after I have been using the internet for a few minutes, idk if it means anything but I put it up just in case.

Finally, (sorry its so long) everytime I try to upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 it says it can't download it, restart the comp, and use the troubleshoot page which gives no help. Idk if any of these are related but these are all the problems I am having. I have XP and IE6. Any ideas of what is going on?

Hi everyone, New to the forum so thanks for the help ahead of time. Upon opening internet explorer it immediately closes and displays nothing. Also Internet options in control panel will not open at all. The windows firewall also tells me "For your security, some settings are controlled by group policy." This computer is not on a network and is a home computer. I was able to work around it by doing some registry work in which I removed the value on the firewall key. So that enabled me to turn the firewall back on. The service for windows firewall is now started with no errors and is set to automatic.

The Internet explorer problem is more important to me at the moment. I know the internet connection is active because firefox works perfectly. I scanned the computer with AVG and it found so many viruses and trojans it was rediculous. I also scanned the computer with webroot spysweeper and it found nothing but when I open IE it stops all sorts of things like drivecleaner for example.

I am not sure if this is a Vista problem or an Internet Explorer problem but I am using these programs on a PC and experiencing problems.

If I have multiple windows open in IE and click another link to open a new window, which either does not load or stalls thus giving me a "not responding" message, my only option is to select close and then it shuts down ALL my active IE windows. (Actually, I have three options, like... report the problem and restart the window, close the program, etc. but no matter which one you push, all three options shut down ALL the IE windows.) This never used to happen when I was using XP and an older version of IE (not sure which one.) Whenever one window stalled you could merely close the one window and all your previously opened windows would remain intact. Is this something I can fix? If I have to shut down the malfunctioning window, that is fine, but do I really have to lose all my functioning active pages due to one failure? What can I do?

Thanks.

Runtime error! Program C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.com
R6025 - pure vital function call

After the message, all of my windows in explorer are shut down.

Does anyone have any ideas what I might do to alleviate the problem?
Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions.

Hi. Every time I try to play a .mwv file on the internet. internet explorer tells me that it has encountered an error & must close.

Windows Media player works off the internet.
I have run sfc.
I have downloaded & reinstalled ie 6.1.
I have reset all ie defaults.
My firewall isnt blocking them.
I have scanned my pc with Norton av, Ewido, @ spybot - no probs.
There is nothing showing in Hijack this that could cause this.

Ive now run out of ideas. (apart from a reload of windows)

If anyone has any other ideas, I would be grateful if you could post them.
Thanks

Whenever I either type in the URL or click directly on a link to www.oldnavy.com, www.victoriassecret.com, or www.gap.com, my internet browser automatically closes as soon as the page loads. Any ideas?

SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
AdAware SE http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
SpyBot S&D http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

DL them (they are free), install them, check each for their definition updates and then run AdAware and Spybot, fixing anything they say.

Do these before the next step.

Then get HiJack This http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html,
put it in a permanent folder, run it , DO NOT fix anything, post the log here.

For some unknown reason Internet Explorer just closes down with no warning at all. It doesn't ask if I want to send an error report or anything, it just closes. It happens the most when viewing Ebay.ca but it happens on other sites as well. Any thoughts?

Hi, Could someone please help me with this.

Every time I go to a certain site, but sometimes it happens at other random sites, Internet Explorer will just close as if I clicked on the 'x' at the top. I don't understand why it does this. The site when it happens everytime is www.leaguelineup.com/greenvilleoilers .

I have windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer 6 with SP2. I ran virus checks and spyware checks but nothing seems to fix it. I even uninstalled using the add/remove programs and reinstalled it and it does the same thing.

If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated, if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks.

Something is bad wrong with that site. I went to it using Firefox and it froze my screen. I had to use my Task Manager to 'end process' on FireFox.

Have you downloaded service pack 2? Quite a few people have had different problems with that service pack. They just uninstalled it and everything went back to normal.

I have no idea how to fix this and have looked on loads of internet explorer forums. The internet explorer page is mostly blank so i cannot access the internet options via 'tools', i can't even get into the internet options via control panel, it just wont open, as many people have suggested. People have also suggested uninstalling Internet Explorer completely and download firefox, but how am i meant to download firefox or internet explorer 8 if i uninstall my only browser? by the way i'm assuming i have internet explorer 7 and i have an xp home edition. Any help and suggestions would be hugely appreciated!

Hello,

I'm trying to resolve an issue on the family computer, which I'm afraid I don't use except when it needs to be fixed. I have an issue which I hope that you can help with: Internet Explorer closes itself automatically after only 2 seconds of being open. This happens only on one user account (the one that is used the most, from what I understand.)

I have performed a complete scan & fix with the latest versions of AdAware, Spybot, and CW Shredder. I have scanned the computer with both the Panda and Symantec online anti-virus utitilies and removed what they have found. Windows is fully updated. And I have been through the Add/Remove program list to be sure that everything in there is legit. Unfortunately, the problem still exists. Furthermore, the online virus-scanning utilities did not find any viruses - so I really have no idea what may be causing this problem.

If any more information is required, please let me know, and I'll be sure to write you back ASAP. Thank you in advance for your help. Here is my HijackThis log:

A:Internet Explorer Browser Window Unexpectedly Closes

IE Browser problem persists. Internet Explorer browser window unexpectedly closes within 20-30 seconds of opening one or more windows, especially for 15-30 minutes after computer is first booted up. Problem may then stop for hour or more, then may later reappear sporadically. Does not appear to affect websites such as cox.mail.com or online banking programs, or off-line applications (word, excel, etc.).

Related data entry problem also continues to persist most of time. While entering data on any website or scrolling mouse within website, the entry or mouse operation is interrupted. Must left-click mouse onto site to continue.

Doctor SpyWare and XoftSpy anti-spyware successfully blocked repeated infections by AURORA and PARTYPOKER, but do not appear to correct IE browser closing problem. Repeated anti-spyware scans show no infections. And McAfee VirusScan and McAfee Personal FireWall Plus show no virus infections.

In Internet Explorer 8, click in the menu on Favorites, then right click on the favorites list and select "sort by name". The favorites list disappear (instead of displaying it in the new sorted order). In IE7 it worked properly (the favorites list didn't disappear, instead displayed the favorites in the new sorted order). Anybody having a hint how to fix that wrong behaviour in IE8?

A:Internet Explorer 8 Favorites Sort by Name closes list

Wait until MS comes out with a fix?

There are too many issues with IE8 to count. I would suggest uninstalling and going back to 7 for the time being.

But so far, I believe it only closes in certain websites such as Yahoo Games and Myspace Login page. But this happens not just in Internet explorer, also in Mozilla Firefox. I've checked with Ried in the Hijackthis forum and the logs came out clean so he directed me to this part of the forum for help.

So... Help? I thank you in advance!

I don't understand what's going on, because after installing McAfee all of my previous problems went away, but something has happened again causing the internet to just close without warning, and when I am able to get online, my google searches are constantly redirected. I did a full scan on both McAfee and Malwarebytes, but neither as fixed the problem. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance, it is greatly appreciated. I have Windows XP.
