I will be assisting you with your computer issues.  All of my proposed fixes and suggestions must be approved by a fully-qualified Malware Removal Team member or instructor.  This will delay response times somewhat, but I will endeavor to respond within a reasonable time, normally 48 hours after your last post.

I will need some time to review your FRST logs and consult with a Malware Response Instructor.   That could take a few days.  Once I have done so, I will post back with initial instructions.

Thank you and have a great day.

Hey everyone!
Just a few details:
Laptop: HP dv2050us
OS: Windows XP Home SP3

So I was downloading a trial version of nero and my entire computer decided to hate me. I'm pretty sure it was a virus. It changed my registry somehow and has deleted important files to ensure that the computer works.
I'm running XP home and the cute little log-in window doesn't come up anymore (it's just the boring username: password:). Also, I wasn't able to access any of the files in the control panel -- it said I was missing rundll32.exe (I downloaded that and put it in C:/WINDOWS/system32) -- so it works now.

I want to just stick my recovery cds into my computer, but when I do, my computer doesn't read them. I've checked the device manager, and CD-ROM is not there, but I have the option to boot from my CD-Rom drive when I look at my BIOS.

I don't know what to do :(
PLEASE HELP!!

A:CD/DVD-Rom Drive missing and System Recovery files missing

First thing you're going to want to do is back up any files that you want to keep. Since you can't use your cd drive in windows, you'll have to use a flash drive or an external hard drive. Just copy and paste the files you want to keep onto the storage device (I suggest you do this in safe mode if possible and that you don't copy any (large) folders as there might be hidden files within them that are infected).

Once you've gotten all your files backed up, you have two choices:

1) Follow the steps here and start a new thread in the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum (be patient as the analysts are very busy and it can take a while for them to get to you).

2) Wipe the hard drive with a program like dban and reinstall Windows (this is a good guide on how to reinstall windows; if you don't have the disk with all your hardware drivers that came with the computer, then you should also download all the drivers from the manufacturer's website and save them to a cd/flash drive/external hard drive to help speed up the process; if you go this route, you will also have to reinstall any programs that you currently have on your computer).

You could also try to run a repair install of Windows, but, if it really is a virus, then that probably won't help all that much in the long term

Hello!

I would very much appreciate some help finding my missing files and folders if possible.

I am running windows Vista version 6.0, service pack 2.

I started windows, and noticed that 5 of my desktop folders were missing, and all of the files contained within. A search for document and folder names returned nothing (even with advanced search options). One of the missing folders was called "term 1". I created a new folder, and tried to change the name to term 1. A pop-up told me that this destination (desktop) already contained a folder named "term 1"- did I want to merge these folders? I was confused, because I could no longer see the original term 1 folder. I clicked "yes" hoping that a merge would result in a visible term 1 folder, but now the new folder also disappeared. After some intensive searching, I could not find any of the folders/files that were missing. Some other folders/files were still visible on my desktop though.

I restored my computer to a previous checkpoint (from 2 days ago, after a windows update). After reboot, I received a message that the restore was unsuccessful. At this point, all of my desktop folders and files were gone, aside from windows default desktop icons. A search returned no results. I remembered that restore can fail because of an AV program, so I disabled Norton. I tried to undo the restore, which was successful, but no files/folders returned. I then tried to do a restore to a checkpoint from befor... Read more

My wife received a popup box warning about a problem with the hard drive. She called me over and we didn't click OK but the damage must have already been done.

All of the files appear to be gone. All of the program files and documents that should be in my documents appear empty. Thanksfully I could see GMER scanning all of these missing files so it looks like they are just hidden. I am not taking any action to recover these as I know how that can cause other virus issues so I am just waiting for help.

The computer seems to be working OK in that I have internet access and the programs that show up in the upper left of the start menu can be launched (IE, Outlook, and a Bridge Game that I play) but all of the other 'All Programs' appear empty.

Attached is are log files. I couldn't send to zip file due to computer issue so I am attaching the txt files.

I have been trying to encrypt a folder using PGP 9.0.6 and Cryptainer Secure It 3.1.7.

http://www.cypherix.com/

http://www.symantec.com/business/theme.jsp?themeid=pgp

What's weird is that the folder and the files within it will not encrypt and I don't know why? Further more the folder will actually be missing files. Can anybody explain to me? No, I am not setting the applications to erase files after completion.

PGP Conventional Encryption has worked finally. I tried all the obvious stuff first like closing all non-essential volumes (virtual disk that are created and encrypted by PGP), transferring the files to another drive, etc.

On a slightly separate issue. I did have some data corruption involving an older and separate group of files. However I deemed that to a hardware failure or a OS/Software failure. Figured it might provide valid insight.

Update: Now my PGP conventional encryption, non .exe file generation worked. I don't understand why it wouldn't work? Going to rename the source folder and try again. MY encrypted .exe file generation with PGP should work.

I tried again. PGP conventional encryption and PGP Zip both encrypted fine. I tried creating a PGP .exe file and again it failed and files are missing; why?

I've done a full virus scan and spyware scan. No known threats detected that would cause this. I've done two system wipes in the past months. I've also removed, reinstalled, and or repaired the installation of both a... Read more

A friend of mine asked me to take a look at his PC, it's a HP Pavilion a1510n, running XP Media Center Edition. He has lost hundreds of files and in the folders where the files were is this small file called AXEL.DAV, there are over 2000 of the files in just about every folder on the pc. I have run Ad-Aware but it didn't seem to find anything. I have attached a HJT log. Any help would be appreciated.

I've had this computer (HP Pavilion dv2000)for about 4 years and despite my best efforts it's started to get a little bogged down.. SO a while ago I used some free registry cleaning software (Eusing Registry Cleaner, Window Registry Repair & Registry Repair Wizard 2011) to try to get rid of clutter on my lap top in hopes that it would run a little better. I know, I know, let me save everyone the time of telling how stupid it was to do this when I don't know that much about computers! SO as you can imagine after my little cleaning spree I started having some weird problems but mostly related to Internet Explorer. I tried to undo whatever I did but nothing worked. I actually had to stop using IE all together because I kept getting errors and couldn't get to some websites at all. It seemed to be a security setting issue but no matter what changes I made nothing would fix it. So I switched to Firefox which has been a lot better but not perfect. So now its pretty obvious that my computer is missing some files? .... drivers? ....something because I am basically unable to execute most setup files that I download and my Norton anti-virus seems to not be able to run its periodic scans correctly. Lately the computer seems to be worse, buggy, slow, freezes up and I suspect that there is a virus somewhere but no virus scan, adware scan, etc. that I've been able to run (Spy Bot, Bit Defender) finds anything and I'm to afraid to even look at the registry now... Do you have Vista DVD?Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista/7), type in:sfc /scannowClick OK (hold CTRL, and SHIFT, hit Enter in Vista/7).Have Windows CD/DVD handy (with Vista/7, most likely, you won't need it). If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it may ask you for the CD/DVD (rarely in Vista/7 case).

Hello

Here we go:

Symptoms: On start screen, the icon images do not load and computer hangs. Occasional BSOD.
After a few restarts computer runs fine and as long as it passes that start up spot.

I recently did some 'housekeeping' on the pc and removed many old programs, files, folders etc...

Malewarebytes Pro scan: 0 infections
Sptbot S&D scan : coupon bar (however I installed that)
Avast Interent Security scan : 0 infections

I had run a Hijackthis to look around (but I deleted nothing) and saw a bunch of "(File missing)" after the strings. Didnt know if this is an issue...

Also, on the GMER I could not check off a bunch of the boxes as they where greyed out. The reults was "GMER HASNT FOUND ANY SYSTEM MODIFICATIONS"

Thank you

I am totally baffeled with my problem.

I know files and folders are on my computer. When I go to the path they should be they do NOT show up.

For instance
I go to my computer
click c:\
I am looking for the directory "Documents & Settings"
It is not there.

I try using the cmd and use dos commands to check for the directory and it IS there. I tried the "unhide" files and folders thing and it didn't work. I also tried while in dos mode the attrib -h *.* and that didn't work.

this is causing a great problem because the file path that i am looking for
contains the conversions files and folders of converted and burned movies and as a result is taking up a lot of space that I can't get at to delete.

the path I am trying to get to reads:
c:\documents and settings\J\My Documents

It's there when I seek it out in the DOS mode, but "NOT" there when I use any explorer mode under my operating system, Windows XP sp3

I looked around in the forum here and can't seem to find a solution that fits this.

PLEASE if anyone got a solution it would be appreciated.

Hi,
Can someone review my HJT log? I did a scan to see if I could find anything suspicious because my computer has recently been a bit laggy and I can't figure out why. I keep it clean with AdAware, Symantec Professional, Spybot, RegClean, and I also defrag at least once a week or every 2 wks. So I am at a stand-still on why it's laggin, therefore I ran a HJT scan and came up with the following "missing files":

dimsntfy.dll (Winlogon Notify entry) (which I manually searched and found it in System32 and ServicePackFiles\i386 folders even though it said it was missing)

jqs.exe (Java Quick Starter Service entry) This is a new service since the latest java update that seems to run continuously in my processes even though I read online that it was only supposed to run during bootup, then stop. I found this file also in Program Files\Java\jre6\bin.

Can someone review my HJT log and tell me if i can click the "fix checked" button to remove these entries without causing any problems? Thanks.

Hello friends,

I am in a bit of a bind. I simply clicked the "show hidden files" option on my C:/Users folder. Inside of 20 seconds, my libraries are all rearranged and none of my files are where I put them originally. They have seemingly vanished.

I downloaded ShadowExplorer and thankfully confirmed that I can still open my files when I refer back to an earlier restore point within the program, but when I go to restore the files, they don't go back to where I send them. I don't know where my files are, nor how to access them outside of this ShadowExplorer program.

I did try a regular 'ol Windows system restore, but those don't affect files, so the problem remains. Anyone have any idea what the hell I did and how I might go about fixing it?

Thank you immensely for your consideration.

A:Show hidden files --> Files now missing

Hello Snapdragon, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you have not already, see if checking the "don't show hidden files" option will revert them back to how you had them before.

Double check the libraries to make sure that the folders you had included in them are still included.

In addition, see if setting each library to View -> "Sort by -> Name", "Group by -> (None)", and "Arrange by -> Folder" may reveal them.File and Folder Arrangement - Group by - Sort by - Arrange by
Hope this helps for now,

Hello to all!

I'm new to this forum and obviously i'm not sure if this is the right place for starting and posting this thread.

Since i'm pritty desperate i'm going to explain the best i can what is really happening and how it all started:

since a few days ago i was noticing that a few files, specifically mp3 files are missing from my music collection. I managed to recover the missing ones and transfer the whole collection to a new drive without issues. Today i've found that some recently downloaded files, including several mp3's where missing again from the new HDD. I started to look around the internet abut the problem and what could be the reasons that causes my files to "vanish" from my HDD. As i was reading, i stoped at one thread in other's site forums that related to some "security" and "user privileges" issues in Win 7. I then tried to "fix" the problem but noticed that the files where still missing.

Next thing i tried was looking for the missing files in some AppData subfolder named something like "virtual backup" or something. That was the last time i saw the "user" folder and the last time y accessed my local drive. Turned out the folder just dissapeared from the screen after a short "access denied" dialog box (error). After that, all of my desktop icons dissapeared and my c: drive went like it's empty and can't be accessed, still i can see the drive lying there and every time i run a virus ... Read more

A:Missing files, missing "user" folder, can't access local drive

Viruses do things like that. The scenario sounds familiar. Scan with Malwarebytes. The free version is good enough.

my labtop won't come on somehow. I definitely turn it on, and it has plenty of batteries, because the two light on the side of the bottom of the labtop is on, the power light and the battery light, it's both on. but the screen is still plain black. i don't know what's wrong with it, it's pretty new, i got it just last year. it won't work even with a battery cord connect to it. i tried closing the labtop by pushing down the power button for several seconds so the powerlight would turn off, than i turn it back on again. the powerlight turned on, but the screen is still black.

I was recently asked to look at a laptop that would not load windows. It booted past the BIO's but frooze getting into the login screen. Repair startup failed. Could not be repaired and told to contact my support team. A memory test allowed me to login to windows. How ever nothing would open. Start menu would work but no applications would start. The Hard drive said it was in a bad state.

I installed Linix Mint and managed to recover all needed files. I then tried to reinstall windows. Both CD's stop at expanding files 0% then errors can not be installed. Files missing. I have seen on the web in might be todo with the speed i recored the image iso at???

I then fired up a linix live cd and deleted the old windows and linix partition with gParted. Now not even Linux will install. If i allow the laptop to boot it will come up grub recovery(linuxs recovery).

seems i cant do any thing now. Have i not partioned the HDD right?

any ideas and thanks

Most all hdd manufacturer's have diagnostic tools which you can download as an ISO file, you then can burn this to a CD and boot from it to run the diagnostic test.  If you will pull the hdd out and post the manufacturer I will post a link to a site where you can download the file.

Okay, I am assuming that you can login to windows just fine so...

1. Start Menu
2. Run
3. Type in: sfc /scannow
4. System will check for corrupted/ missing files. It will prompt you to insert your XP install cd if a file is missing.
5. It will take a while to run, but it whould be worth it :)

I apologize in advance for posting this twice. I think I may have put it originally in the wrong area.

I had terrible problems with spyware and some trojans. I received much help here and fixed that right up. No problems with that now but I still have some issues that haven't been corrected and I don't have a windows XP CD. It didn't come with my computer and I never bought one. Here's the problems I've noticed just so far......

1) No search option under start, search. Nothing shows but a blank box and the dog. I have no way to do a search for files or to choose options for a search.

2) In my control panel, when I click on both IE troubleshooting link and Network Diagnostics link does nothing.

3) I have no system restore. When I click on it, it does nothing.

4) I switched to Firefox as my browser since I encountered all of the problems with trojans, etc. so I can't get windows updates unless I use IE. When I click on IE and go to tools, windows update, I get a blank page. Nothing on it. It's the same way if I go directly to the microsoft homepage and try it from there. Blank page again.

5) No way to use windows media player. Apparently I downloaded something with my current version and now it's disabled and had to be uninstalled. I installed a new version but after the set up, I received an error message and it closes right up. I don't even have time to write down what it says.

Now, the programs I have downloaded to fix my problems with ads and trojans or... Read more

noadaware is not a recommended program there are plenty of free programs available without buying them
did you receive any restore disks with the computer as you can make an xp disk from the restore disk
some comps you have to make your restore disks from the computer yourself, from what i have read
is there a sticker on the back or the side of the computer with the xp serial on it
borrow a copy of xp and in the run box type
sfc /scannow
and press enter
if it finds anything wrong with the system files it will ask for the xp disk to repair them

I have a ASUS U36SG CI5 2.5 6GB/500 GT610M 13.3" W7HP labtop,

i have spilled a liquid substance on it 2 times, first its was icetea, cleaned it in disstiled water, worked fine after, second time around i spilled coffee, and thats when it went wrong.

afte i spilled the coffee, the labtop turned itself off. so i took out the AC, and battery. and left it to dry for a day or 2, then turned it back on, but it keept tuening on and shutting off. so i took the labtop apart, and cleaned the mobo, and other componants in distilled water, looks all new a shiny now . but when i tryed to tuen it on again, it loaded to the part where it asked, start windows nomaly, or repair. then i pressed one of them and it shut down and started to turn on and shut down after a few sec, and kept on doing this. reapeated this a few times, but the result dident change, so i tryed without battery, would not power up, just with the battery, would not power up. so i left the ac and battery in, and came to the start windows normaly or repair, took out the AC, and it could boot all the way. but as soon as i plug the AC back in it turns off.

So my big question is, what could or is this problem, and can it be solved without replaceing any major components.

Yours senserly!

My labtop is constantly shutting down on its own. Sometimes it shut down when I turn on the labtop after 5 seconds, sometimes it shut down in 20 minutes, and sometimes it just won't even turn on. I think its because it is overheating but I don't know what to do. Can anyone give me simple steps that can possibly solve this problem? I have a window XP labtop, bought about less than a year. If you need to know anything I can tell you... if my labtop doesn't shut down automaticly again. Thanks!

A:Toshiba Labtop

It's hard to imagine it overheating in 5 seconds. If it's still under warranty, I suggest contacting Toshiba, don't let the warranty run out before you let them take a crack at it.

One quick check, try a memory test, here's two to choose from.

Your wire connection to the internet is disabled. Is this intentional? What else did you disable when disabling the connection?

4 of the last 5 memory dumps blame NETw5v64.sys (your wireless networking device driver). The other blames a Windows network driver that was likely crashed by your NETw5v64.sys driver.

This should be the link for your 64 bit wireless networking driver. Please download this one, uninstall the old one, and then install the new one.

I recently allowed my cousin to borrow my labtop. But I think they may have visited some bad websites. My labtop has been very slow to respond since they used it. And when I try to use a web browser it takes me to websites I did not click. My sister has tried to help me by removing my internet cache with CCleaner. And by running McAfee antivirus to check for viruses. The antivirus didn't find anything wrong. So she deleted some programs I wasn't using. Then she changed my advanced system performance settings to lower my memory usage with visual effects. I don't know a lot about computers. But I think there may still be something wrong with it. Why does my laptop heat up so fast??? the fan stays on continuously.

Do I have too many running processes?
I usually have around 45 running processes. Can someone help me to reduce the running processes? I dont know which ones i need!

Thanks..

A:Why Is My Labtop Fan Always Running?

You might open Task Manager to see if a single process is using 90-100% of your CPU. Right click an empty space on the task bar and select Task Manager. Select the Processes tab and scroll through the listed processes. If one is using all of the CPU power, the fan will run constantly, fast, and usually loudly.

I've had problems with AdobeUpdater and SymantecUpdater in the past...to the extent that I uninstalled Adobe Reader and Norton AntiVirus (Norton couldn't come up with a solution).

Let me know if this solves your problem or if you find the process that may be causing the problem.

My dad labtop is in pretty bad shape and it's hard enough just to get HJT or anything onto the computer, then running them properly is another story. It's an Accer, XP. Don't think you need anything. It's almost impossible to work with. There's about 3 anti-virus's on it. Not sure if there even real ones or false ones he downloaded from the virus.- Safe mode's not working, just gives a list of drivers and crap.- It's just constantly rebooting explorer I believe every couple a seconds. Lots of popups saying "Your computer is probably infected, click yes to download software to remove it."- Can't right click without the restarting effect- Could only manage an older version on HJT that doesn't need to be installed- I can't killbox the files from system32I can't even open notepad or open any folder.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS... im ok with upgrading regular pc's, i've built a few, but i have a friend who asked me to take a look at his labtop, its a p3 forgot how fast, but he wants to upgrade the ram, he has 160mb, i guess i gotta find out how much it can hold.. he has about a gig left on the hard drive, not sure im gonna upgrade that, but if i do, i just wanna make sure its not rocket science... sorry i dont have the model number, and its a compaq...

should i be able to do it? yes or no?

A:labtop upgrades...

You can definetly add more RAM if it isn't maxed out (probably not, 160 is a weird number) and replacing the HD can be done too.

You can check all the hardware limitations from the Compaq website (if you know the model number of course).

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run ad-aware SE with VX2 add-on cleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) and CWShredder as these programs will clean a lot of the crap out first. All links to programs are in my signature. Ok..on to the log?..

Open My Computer>>View>>FolderOptions>>View Tab>>Advance Advanced settings box, under the "Hidden files" folder, select Show all files>>Apply>>OK
Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Open add/remove programs and remove VIEWPOINT and P2P if listed. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. I am having problems with my Dell Inspiron 2650 with Windows XP Home.
It just turns off randomly without warning, usually while I am playing Age of Mythology by Microsoft. It also kills itself while running McAfee VirusScan and Nero CD burning software. At one point it was doing it every 30 minutes or so. I finally ran enough of VirusScan to detect some viruses, which I promtly deleted, ran ad-aware, etc. It subsided temporarily, but now does it almost exclusively while playing AOM. It the game creating the problem? Or the cd-rom? I am lost on this one.

A:turn on my labtop

On a new installation you should have 30 days before Windows 7 gives you a hard time about entering the key and even then it should allow you to enter it.You just bought a refurbished laptop and it should have some sort of warranty, bring it back or contact where you purchased it from for help, there may be something wrong with it.If it is for some reason out of warranty, then try a Factory Restore but assume that anything you have saved on it and any programs you added will be gone. If there is anything important on the drive and you do not have access to save it, boot to a Live Linux DVD (Don't install) to access your hard drive to save your files to an external drive. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hello coolchiliboy

Try logging in in Safe Mode.
When boot up begins, start pressing F8 repeatedly until you see the Advanced Options page.
Select Safe Mode and try to boot all the way into XP there.
Post back what happens then.

Is your copy of XP genuine?
Have you actually activated it before?

Here's the problem: Whenever I turn on my labtop and after couple seconds of using it, the screen suddenly turns blue and on the top says "beginning dump of physical memory" and then below it says "physical dump complete" then my labtop restarts. I think the cause of the problem was because I turned the labtop off by unplugging it [rather than doing the proper shut down] because it kept freezing. Any solutions to this problem? I know I didn't download any virus-infected programs because I have A LOt of anti-virus firewalls and the only things I put on the computer are: starcraft, msn messenger, and limewire. Any help will be appreciated.

Here are my specs: Windows 2000 professional, Pentium4, 400 Mhz

It seems that you have either run out of memory.

How much memory is currently installed on the system (RAM)

And are you positive those are the only things on the computer?

Ok, so I have been told for months now that I need to back up my labtop to cds incase of a computer crash or something. But a combination of being tight on money and being busy with my school work caused me to put it off until now. So I go to walmart, buy some cds, verify that those sort of cds are correct for backing up computer info and get started on the process. The first cd it takes less then 20 mins to completely back up as much as it will. So I switch out cds and the second one starts loading, that doesn't take very long for it to fill up either. But when I went to switch cds again I got a pop up message indicading that something had gone wrong and that the ending of the backing up on that cd and that I had to redue it again. So I started again and it didn't take long for the cd to get filled up again, at this point about 25% of my computer had been backed up. I then switched out cd's again, expecting that it wouldn't take long for this third cd to get filled up, maybe 20 min. at the most like the other cds. About 15 min later I checked on my computer and it showed that about 31% of my computer has now been backed up. That was 4 hours ago and it is still saying that only 31% is done. Should I be consurned? How can I speed this process up?

I have an HP envy 17 se nb pc. Turned the computer off at night and then turned it on in morning.
It asked for a windows password which I had disabled because I don't want to type it in all the time.
So I typed in the previous password and the screen said it was the wrong password. The computer then shut down by itself. I turned it back on and the screen is black and the caps lock button is giving me two blinks which means the bios needs updating. Went to the Microsoft site for bios update and all there instructions
will not work. Also the hard drive light blinks for about ten seconds an then goes off. I also think that the fan is not running and the computer gets very warm. I also removed the battery and the power plug and just plugged the power plug back in. This computer seems to be dead in the water. Can anyone help Thank you: Rodwell

When I search for Envy 17 se nb, I get 68 results.
You'd get the BIOS from HP not Microsoft. The problem is that with 68 models, no one but you knows exactly which model you have and which drivers to link you to.

I finally ran enough of VirusScan to detect some viruses, which I promtly deleted, ran ad-aware, etc. It subsided temporarily, but now does it almost exclusively while playing AOM. It the game creating the problem? Or the cd-rom? I am lost on this one.

It will NOT run Vista due to video drivers.

My laptop has ATI Radeon 9000 video, and there is much discussion on the internet regarding Vista drivers, but, according to the manufacturer there will never be an Vista drivers for this chipset.

I would really like to run W7 on this laptop though.

Any ideas?

A:Will my Toshiba Labtop run Windows 7?

as long as the Toshiba meets Windows 7 min. requirements, it'll run just fine. Sorry to say tho, there is no driver for the 9000 series you will get stuck using the standard VGA that windows installs. ATI doesnt support that series anymore :-(

I use Softspy, Ad-adware and spybot S&D. I scan and clean what they were suggested. But the tons of pop up ads still pop up.

They are from

Hello, I recently noticed a different in speed with my labtop. It's taking a while to do even simple things like open up a web browser.

I tried cleaning the disk drive, I defragmented the drive, I ran spyware, malware, virus, trojan searches and nothing major came back.

However, I ran an HIHACK and it gave me an error. It seems it's having problems loading the whole file.. It says something along the lines of
.
"I need to edit the file my self, C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts"

Then it gives me a fatal error, after that, this HIJACK LOG comes in

I got 1,500 that I'd like to put towards a laptop. Is it possible to purchase a laptop that could run games such as Farcry 2, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3 and fallout 3. I know that some of the games mentioned have not been released yet. Would anybody have a clue as to what kind of laptop, that might run game such as Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 decently, and in that case can I buy a laptob for a price lower than the one mentioned.
Basically I am looking for a laptop that I can buy now for the price mentioned above. That would be able to run games released in the future, faster that say watching paint dry.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Many Laptops allow you to switch the video.
Mine allows Panel only, VGA only, or Both.
Look for a Function key combination to switch it. My Dell uses FnF8
