computer running slowly and freezing after running firefox and steam games

Q: computer running slowly and freezing after running firefox and steam games

when i close out of firefox the cpu for the process firefox.exe goes immediately to 99% and will usually cause my computer to freeze unless i end the process instead of closing firefox normally.
when i close out of steam games, my computer will run slower than usual, even if i end all processes related to steam. my computer will stay at this slowed speed untill i restart my computer.

here is my HJT log, if any other information is needed please tell me.

Please help, my computer isn't very useful right now. Here's the deal:

1. My computer keeps on freezing up on me, and I don't even have many programs running. When my computer finally starts up, I log onto windows, and it takes seriously two or three minutes for windows to load; two weeks ago it took 20-30 seconds for windows to load. When windows finally loads, and I click on a program (ie. Internet Explorer or Opera Web Browser), it takes another five to seven minutes for one the programs to appear on the screen, then another minute or two for the program to load. When I close a program, it does one of two things; my computer will freeze, and I'll have to restart it; or, it will take a couple of minutes to close the program. And I'm just working with the basics; Internet explorer, opera, open office, and windows media. I'm trying to add music to my newly added iTunes library, but that's almost impossible.

2. My computer won't shut down. This computer is only seven months old, it's too young for such problems. When I go to shut my computer down, I select the shut down icon from the start menu, and expect my computer to shut down. Rather than shutting down, windows pop up telling me that the programs that I had been running are not responding, and I have the option to wait or end the program. I end the program, and the window comes up again, it's almost like my computer isn't properly responding to its commands. Again ... Read more

My laptop has been running very slowly recently, and a lot of the time it will freeze when I attempt to open a new page/application. I'm assuming that this is because I have either Malware or viruses on my computer. My laptop is running Windows 7. I used to have AVG on this computer, but it expired and I didn't renew it, now an occasional message from AVG pops up, but that's it. I have not taken any other steps to fix this problem yet. Any help is appreciated!

After my anti virus lapsed for a few days because I accidentally turned it off,my computer started running really slow and freezing.I notice adobe flash plugin always crashes. Not sure that's related. All of this started a month ago.A GMER scan I performed a week ago said rootkit activity detected.I didn't delete anything or make any changes.

Ok, this all started when I had windows vista on my desktop computer Acer Aspire AM1641-U1521A, it was great everything was running smoothly, I was happy, but then after my mom put a password on the computer then forgot it, afterwards we got a restaurant and she moved all the internet connection to there. Since their was a tech support near by we took our password protected computer to him, then when we got it back he deleted everything and put it to windows 7, everything seemed ok until we got internet back at the house, now I downloadeded all my Mmos and played on one of them, S4 league, the FPS rate was so low and I did not know why. It wasn't the connection, I am using comcast atm. After a bit of messing around I found that the coprocessor in the Device manager had a yellow triangle on it, I tried clicking on it then the computer tried to instal new softwar but did not then it sent me to this, and the download was in this link, http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windo...ce_winvista_win7_32bit_international_whql.exe
I did it and it downloaded 4 drivers for nvidia, one of them was ethernet I recall, but after that everything was worse, the computer was slowing down a little with choppy mouse movement, and when I go on youtube videos, anything over 240-360p would cause major video lag and I think my Mmo frame rate got worse (And maybe download speed but I don't care that much). Any Ideas? I let you see my drivers,

I honestly have no clue if I posted this in the right area, but I recently (today) found out that if I start any game on my laptop it lags on the main menu and really bad in-game. I even noticed my computer is running slower in general. I don't think it should be because I uninstalled my Display driver yesterday because I can't even change the brightness (which I also couldn't solve). I'm honestly at a loss, looking up fixes on forums, and this is my last resort to find help directly. I haven't done anything that should harm my computer, and have restarted my laptop. I can't give you my specs because I really don't know how, but I wish could give enough information to get some sort of help, sorry if I couldn't.

A:My Computer Is Running Slowly And Games Arent Working Really

Howdy Squidmonkey,No infection showing here. Your log shows you have both BitDefender and AntiVir - having two antivirus software on one system can cause slowdowns and conflicts. You really should choose and uninstall one of those. You also have part of the older Ewido AntiSpyware running - this has been replaced by the AVG version, so here you may want to remove Ewido through Add/Remove Programs. Unless you have experienced alerts for specific infections, you might consider posting a new request in the BleepingComputer Windows XP Home and Professional forum for some advice on the problems.

Alright, so I bought a new computer just recently. It's been great so far except that it keeps freezing when I'm in the middle of game playing. I have no idea what it causing this. I've tried most everything I can thing of so far. Re-installing games, changing the resolutions and color schemes (As advised by the games' troubleshooting FAQs.) and I've even re-formatted the whole thing a couple of times. The problem still remains. Here's what's happened so far;

~Froze 3 times while playing The Sims 2 (with both expansions)

1st: Froze in create a character after choosing a different head for my Sim.

2nd: Finished creating a Sim. Froze while loading the neighborhood back up.

3rd: Froze while loading the neighborhood while launching the game.

~Froze 3 times while playing The Movies.

1st: Froze while loading up the Tutorial

2nd: Loaded Tutorial. Played through Tutorial without any problems. Finished Tutorial and froze while loading New Game.

3rd: Loaded New Game. Played game without any problems for about 2 hours. Froze immediately upon my trying to create a custom script with the Custom Script Building. (CS screen came up, and it froze as the lady started to explain how to make one)

~Froze 1 time while playing FEAR.

A:New computer keeps freezing while running games. Help.

Had that exact same problem with my computer. The problem was with my PSU. Figured it out by chance. Now im not saying this is your problem, its just what helped sort it on my computer.

After a few months of trouble, I decided to start an upgrade, thinking changing all the main components would solve it.
Since I dont earn much money, I had to get 1 part at a time, and the first thing I got was a ThermalTake TruePower 680w PSU.
For the hell of it, I pluged it into the old computer, and suddenly everything worked perfectly.

Turns out that the PSU I had was failing, in older or lower graphics games, it would work fine, as the computer doesnt use as much power. The moment I try playing anything newer or more powerfull (The Sims 2, WoW, FarCry, etc...) it would crash, with a reboot beeing the only way to get the computer working again.

I would suggest you at least check this out. If you can, try borrow a PSU from a friend, and just check how it works. Just make you sure you get one powerfull enough, a computer with those specs will need something powerfull.

If it works or not, post back.

Hi, I posted a thread in "viruses/malwar". After running a check on the computer, they saw nothing malicious, suggested it is a hardware problem and suggested I post something here.
When I restarted my computer the other day, Windows loaded normally, boot time was 45 seconds. However when I clicked on the icon for Google Chrome, nothing happened. I tried others and the same thing. I was sitting there thinking I may have picked up a virus and Google Chrome opened. I discovered that it just took awhile for the programs to open, so I updated and ran SE and MWB, then did a disc cleanup. The computer was fine. The next evening I turned the computer on and the same thing happened. So I repeated the process. Since then the programs are sluggish to open and some of the games I play won't open at all. I have Windows 7 and have only had the computer since Sept/Oct of 2011. I am not great with computers but have cleaned a computer in the past through TechSpot, so I can follow instructions. Any ideas??

A:Computer running slow, freezing, some games not coming up at all

well the first step is making sure you dont have a ton of programs running in the system tray (next to the clock.).
If you could click the windows button, right click computer, click properties, and tell us what is written down in system, it would give us a better idea of the caliber of PC we are talking about here.

So I have Vista 64 now and 16 bit games won't work on it from what I've heard. So if I were to download and play Doom or Doom 2 on steam, it won't work? I don't know whether they are 16 bit or not but they are old and used to have DOS versions.

A:Running older steam games?

Downloading them through Steam will work on Vista. I know a friend who's played them succesfully on Vista 64 bit.

Hi,

Recently, my computer seems to be lagging when I play my games, such as Assassin's Creed II. I've checked the requirements for the game and I definitely meet them but the game still runs slowly. The strange thing is that it used to run just fine. This is my problem. I have no idea what's gone wrong, and would love some help trying to fix it.

Hey guys,

Got an issue that I can't figure out how to resolve...

I just bought myself a new gaming computer, I can't remember if I've put the spec up here so here they are

Mobo/Processor: ASUS P6X58D-E with Intel Core i7-930 (2.8GHz)
RAM: 6Gb OCZ Platinum 1600MHz PC3-12800
GPU: nVidia GTX 480 1536Mb GDDR5

And I think the rest is pretty standard, HDDs , 650W power supply etc.

Anyway, when I first installed my games, they ran like a dream. I could play GTA4 on max settings with no issues at all, same with Mafia 2, CoD:MW2, Borderlands, everything. Now, less than a week later it's being ridiculous. GTA4 is stupidly choppy, even on medium settings, Mafia 2 is pretty patchy, has it's slow moments about every 30 seconds, and it's gone down the pan!

I can't think what the change is. Yes, I've installed some extra programs, but I always make sure that there are no unneccessary processes in the background, it's all clean and obvioulsy the HDDs aren't fragmented even slightly.

What do you think the issue is?
I should probably try OCing the processor and graphics card, but I don't really like doing this too much, I prefer to use it stock...
Thanks in advance for the help
EDIT: I reckon it might have something to do with ASUS 6-Engine... I installed it because I'm a bit of a green-freak, and after that it went funny. However, I've now uninstalled it and it's still the same...

I've been having a lot of problems with my laptop recently, the overall performance has become completely awful (it's an Alienware M17x R3 by the way). I can't even play Minecraft without having a bit of fps lag. In an attempt to maybe fix it I restored my laptop. However, this didn't really help, and it's still just as bad. Here are the specs of my computer:

GFX Card: Radeon HD 6990M (I know for a fact that it's 6990, but dxdiag says that it's 6970. This laptop isn't sold with that gfx card)
CPU: Intel core i7-2729QM @ 2.20 GHz
RAM: 16 GB DDR3
Hard Drive: 750 GB 7,200 RPM
OS: Win 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit

So does anyone know what might be wrong, and how I could fix it? It's pretty disappointing not being able to play any games on a laptop specifically designed for gaming. By the way, I do need to update my drivers, and I've have a lot of trouble with that in the past, I always end up running into some sort of error, so if anyone could help me find the correct drivers that'd be much appreciated.

Recently Mozilla Firefox has been acting kind of strange. It either randomly crashes, or it freezes up and goes to not-responding till it decides to crash. My computer in whole has been acting pretty sluggish. I ran Microsoft Security Essentials and Spybot Search and destroy and neither found anything wrong, but the problem still happens.

Thanks ahead of time.

You need to give some more information like: what games are getting low FPS and your PC information (make and model - or is it custom built)? I've been playing games on my computer for a long time and now they are starting to run slow. They will run fine for a few minutes but then it gets really choppy in game, like fps wise, not laggy. After a while it will start running smooth again, but then it'll rotate back to choppy. Putting the settings to minimum helps a little bit but it still does not run smooth. What is wrong?!

A:Games running slowly all of the sudden

could be anything from a virus, a blow fan, bad RAM, over heating, etc.
have you done a scan for virus or spyware? is your room hot during game play? are all your fans working?

Hey guys,
I have a Dell Latitude D620 with the following specs:
1.83 ghz Intel Core Duo
2GB Ram
80 gb hard drive
Nvidia Quadro NVS 110 M graphics card.

My computer runs very well for everything I need to do. However, recently I started up Counter-Strike Source to play. The game would run nicely for about 10 minutes, with around 60fps, then it would drop down to 9 fps and just out and basically freeze and I would have to restart my computer. I updated the bios, chipset, and video card drivers, and the same thing still happens. I propped the computer up about an inch, for more air circulation, and the same thing happens. My roommate, has been playing Half-Life 2, and CS: Source for a while with no such problems. His computer is almost identical to mine:

Latitude D820
2.13Ghz Intel core Duo
2GB ram
80 GB hard drive
Nvidia Quadro NVS 120

His graphics card is slightly better, but with those combined specs, I don't think the slight increase in graphics card should make this much of a drastic difference. He can play for hours with no such problems. I think that it's probably overheating, but my roommates isn't. I can't check the VGA temperature with my current nvidia driver, that option is not available.

Any ideas on what the problem is would be awesome.

thanks in advance!

EDIT:
I installed a different graphics driver, an earlier release that let me monitor the temperature. At peak it was at like 77 C, and then jumped up to 80C for about half a sec and wa... Read more

Hello,

I am having a few problems with my maching that I want to get resolved.

Firstly, I keep getting a some IE7 popups when I am logged on to firefox. These popups are usually related to whatever page I'm on in fireforx (i.e. if I'm on nfl.com on firefox, the IE7 pop-up will be something about sports). I don't use internet explorer and recently started using Chrome to combat this problem but Firefox is my preferred browser.

Second, my Firefox keeps freezing when I do try to use it and it has gotten progressively worse over the past week. Previously, I could use firefox despite the IE7 pup-ups but now firefox usually freezes or hangs for a few minutes. It seems to be working now as I am using Firefox to post this message.

Thanks for any help you can lend me.

When I log into http://www.care2.com then access my email within care2 the following has just started to happen. I get the following dialog box:

"The Script on this page is causing IE to run slowly - If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?". If I click NO, the page opens that I wanted, if I click YES, I get a partly loaded page - I then go to Task Manager/Application and it shows "not responding" against care2 pages open, so I end the task.

I have checked my Internet Option/advanced/browsing, but cannot locate a problem with the items enabled. I have not touched any settings within Internet Options/advanced at this stage. The same thing happens when I use Firefox.

Thanks, would be pleased of some help when possible.

Happy New Year to all

A:IE and Firefox running slowly

It is a problem with the script on the page you are on and what has to be done is to notify the owners of the page there is a problem. If it was your computer then this would be a problem on all of the pages you visit. I would go back to the page and see if there is a way to leave them an email about the problem.

Ever since i did a cleanup of my computer (check my other posts), Firefox has been running slowly, and it takes a long time to switch between tabs. Also, in Internet Explorer, the address bar drop-down keeps clearing itself.

Any advice? Anything that could particularly speed up FireFox would be a big help.

Hi I hope you can help?

I'm running Windows 7, 64bit. Was using IE10 but uninstalled it back to 9 as thought that might be causing problem.

PC started reacting very slowly, takes 3/4 attempts before I can open window like itunes for example. Also freezes on shutdown and I get a black screen telling me it will close down when all the applications are closed - but here are none (obviously) open. PC then freezes completely so I have to restart to be able to close it down at all.

Alsao tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes but that didn't help either.

Have downloaded your speccy, hope that is right see link below?

Would be grateful for any help? Am not that tech savvy so you might need to explain things in simple form - sorry!

OK, I wasn't sure if this is the correct forum, but basically I just purchased a second-hand lap-top mainly for uni work, off eBay, (works perfectly for just that) and I installed The Sims 3 (yes, student living...I know) on it and it was really low-end graphics(?) was confused, because my lap-top is a Core 2 Duo machine (?) with 2GB RAM, (more than enough for Sims 3), then I installed Sims 2 and it was even choppier than Sims 3, was really confused, could my hardware be shoddy? Or should I revert back to XP to gain better gaming graphics with my machine, what should I do? Guidance please?

A:Possible hardware failure. Games running slowly

You only have integrated Intel graphics, they're not well suited to gaming.

Aside from that you need to install Service Packs 1 and 2 for Vista, they should improve performance as well as fix compatibility issues and add new features. Once you have those two service packs installed you should continue to run Microsoft Update to get all the updates, including the optional ones.

Then update the chipset drivers first; http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...eng&OSVersion=Windows Vista 32*&DownloadType=

Then update the graphics driver to the latest version, here's the latest version from Intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...ersion=Windows Vista 32*&DownloadType=Drivers
If that one fails to install then you may need to go to Toshiba to get the latest drivers that they provide(generally an older version).

You should update the Realtek drivers too: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false (top driver)

I wouldn't advise against downgrading to Windows XP.

Also post the full model number of the laptop from the sticker on the bottom of the laptop. There should be a P200-102a number and probably a number like PSA-003330; post all that info.

Hi. My computer has been running much slower than normal. When you open a new window or even try to select a user from the first screen, it really takes its time. Even once the window is open, you can still hear the wheels turning inside the box like it is really struggling to run its basic operating system. When you type something into a web page text box, there is a lag from when I press the key to when the letter shows up.

I have Windows XP and an AMD processor (I don't know which one).

Thanks
Eric

Hi everyone,

I'm posting here today in hopes that someone will kindly assist me in tackling a number of performance issues that have come to fruition over the last two weeks or so. These issues have gradually grown to become more and more of a hindrance in my daily computer usage, and I alone have found myself to be stumped in resolving them over the past few days.

To describe the issues I'm currently facing with my desktop PC: I am noticing a dramatic decline in overall processing speed; programs and folders are taking far longer than usual to load up (sometimes up to 10 minutes before I even get a Windows 7 UAC prompt to permit the program to run); running programs will regularly go into a state of 'Not Responding', usually freezing up afterwards; 'explorer.exe' will regularly crash; browser plug-ins will regularly crash; mouse movements are noticeably jerky and keyboard input is also very laggy; CPU usage shoots up to 100% very often, with few programs running; operating system functionality is generally very sluggish, and the computer will generally lock-up after freezing up, forcing me to turn it off manually.

I can't recall anything that might have caused these issues in performance to arise. I don't run many programs at the same time, nor do I have many background programs running. I initially suspected it may be malware-related, but neither Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, nor Comodo Internet Security were able to identify any potential threats after running ful... Read more

Hello,

After uninstalling Norton 360, as it was making my machine slow, I've found that my browser runs extremely slowly nevertheless.

I have a Windows XP machine. To uninstall Norton I first used the Add/Remove Programs facility in the Control Panel. When this didn't correct the problem with the slow browser I downloaded a utility from the Symantec site for removing Norton 360. This failed to work as well so I'm at my wit's end as to how to get the browser to run at normal speed.

I have been unable to find any mention of similar problems by other people.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My mozilla firefox just yesterday began to act very slowly. Switching between tabs has taken forever and just opening a new page takes a while. The bookmarks tab, and any other tab at the top for that matter, cannot be opened. I click them, then get the outline of the window, but the image behind is shown, like it is frozen. To exit i have to use alt + F4 or the ctrl + alt + del then end process. Once that happens the computer runs as normal. At the windows manager, i also notice that firefox.exe is using 50% of the CPU usage and 170,000 K of memeory. IE on the other hand runs perfectly well, even if firefox is open. How can i fix it? Incase it is malware, I have included a Hijack This! log.

Hello!

Many thanks in advance for your assistance! Through some inadvertent clicking I was attacked by "Antispyware Master" a rogue antispyware program. I have deleted all the files I could find, as well as some registry entries associated with the program as suggested by another website, before I found you guys. Additionally I have ended the associated process to it and it is no longer bothering. It has not shown up after several restarts. However, I am still receiving numerous malicious popups in IE. Firefox is also not running well. I am able to click through to maybe two websites before it will completely hang up and say "waiting for xyz website". Furthermore, I am sporadically getting a windows explorer buffer underrun error that informs me that it is no longer able to continue executing and must close. It will do this periodically and the machine usually continues to operate relatively normally. Occasionally however, it will actually shut down explorer and the taskbar and desktop icons will all disappear. I am able to continue working in the windows that remain open however, but a restart is required to get explorer back.

Also, I have run scans with adaware, and spybot several times to clean the system, and have not had any new significant results recently to show improvement. I have run a couple of scans with Norton and it also comes back clean. However, sometimes after a popup window opens Norton will open an alert saying it found a virus in ... Read more

Hi there, thanks for viewing this.

Recently, my internet explorer 7 and firefox has been running quite slowly. After googling a bit, I found out that this problem could be caused by the iexplore.exe virus.

Many iexplore.exe was running in the processes tab of the Windows task manager when my internet browsers were not in use. This may have caused the slowness.

I have a logfile of TrendMicro's Hijackthis v2.0.2:

Hi, Not sure if this is going to help at all but i thought i'd mention it in case it does. The following error message appears in the event log:Event ID: 7000User: N/ASource: Service Control ManagerDescription: The DS1410D service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.CauseThe DS1410D service is used by the parallel port adapter. If the server does not have a parallel port it will fail to find the specified device. This is normally an error that will occur on system start-up and relates a lot to servers. Not sure if this is the actual error being caused when the games crash. You may want to look deeper...?

i have been experiencing this problem since i got my computer out of the shop with several brand new components. everything runs fine otherwise. what happens is when i try to play a game online everything will be fine for awhile, and then it will suddenly freeze. the sound will continue to loop for about a one second interval, the screen will remain the same, and nothing i press will do anything. i will have to reboot my computer. is there something wrong with my internet service, i.e. hitting bad bouts of lag, or could this be something else?

A:freezing when running games

This sounds like it may be a heat related problem. What are the specs of your computer and if you know, what are the cpu and case temps?

Hello,

My computer is running very slowly, and I cannot figure out why. I defragmented, ran a virus scan, etc. I also use adaware and spybot regularly to check for spyware. Nothing seems to help. I am confused because this computer has run well up until recently. It is older--we purchased it in about 2002-2003.

In case this is important--it is a Dell and I'm running Windows XP.

Can anyone help?

Thank you!

Hi,

Ok, im not 100% sure where this should be put but since its to do with Windows i thought it cant be to much harm.

But the last 2-3 weeks ive been having major problems with my PC running very slowly, things havent changed like i have not downloaded anything what im aware off and its changed. For example it take anywhere from 2-10 mins to load up nearly anything when it used to open in a few seconds. also, while gaming i get horrible fps and terrible fps lag its awful to try do work and also enjoy my past time on the pc. so any suggestions would be nice also if you need details your going to need to explain im a complete rookie with PC's.
Also, while looking over some posts one said in taskmanager if a programm is running with 3 digits its a virus i this true and what should i do about them if it is

Hello, My comp is running slowly and I want to ask about moving programs from C drive to D drive. I have a Sony Vaio notebook (PCG-NV170) running XP. The C drive is around 65% full and D is empty. What are the best programs to move over to D and what is the best way to do this? I have Quicken installed, but I don't use it much, I thought I would start with this. How interchangeable are the drives, though? If I moved programs that I use often over, would they still function as well? I've only ever dealt with one hard drive before. Thanks in advance.

I just cut and paste them to D...you will have to change the path.

Over the past 4-5 days I've noticed my computer is running extremely slow. It's somewhat bareable, as I can still play games but say I want to play poker and web surf often times it starts to freeze/delay. Sometimes even if I click on a web page it will sometimes pause for a second as if it has to reload. Feels like I'm on a Pentium 2 or something even though I have a Phenom X3. I don't think it's a virus because nothing fishy has been going on, and I did check my hijackthis and it seems alright to me. But I pasted it below just in case...

Except for AVG9, most of your startup list can be prevented from auto-loading and running in the background.

From what I can see in your log, a scan for malware and spyware and other "nasties" is in order.

Download and save these 2 programs:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46

SUPERAntiSpyware 4.42.0.1000

Close all open windows first, install them both, then restart your computer.

Follow these instructions next:

Start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Click "Updates(tab) - Check for Updates".

When the definition files have updated, click "OK".

Click "Scanner(tab) - Perform quick scan - Scan".

If infections are found during the scan, the number of infections will be highlighted in red.

When the scan is finished, click "Show Results".

Make sure that everything is selected, then click "Remove Selected".

If you're prompted to restart to finish the removal process, click "Yes".

Start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware again.

Click "Logs"(tab).

Highlight the scan log entry, then click "Open".

When the scan log appears in Notepad, copy-and-paste it here.

Start SUPERAntiSpyware.

Click "Check for Updates".

When the definition files have updated, click "Close".

Click "Scan your Computer - Perform Quick Scan - Next".

If infections or problems are found during the scan, a list will appear.

Adaware-6 is no longer supported. Uninstall that version.

Download AdAware SE Personal: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Install the program and launch it.

On the bottom right-hand corner of the main window click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

In the main window: Click Start and under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Deselect Search for negligible risk entries.

To start the scan, click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and then click Next)

Reboot and post another log.

My computer does not run at optimum speed and I don't know how I can fix it. I downloaded the free "regcure", did the scan and the report showed 1400 + things that needed to be fixed. of course they won't fix them until you buy the software.
So I tried the hijack this scan. The log will follow.
I have a Lenovo 3000 C200 laptop running windows xp professional version 2002 with service pack 3.
When I open my task manager there seems to be many programs running even though i don't have any programs opened. i know that this could be from software that starts up automatically that runs in the background. I don't know what should be running and I don't feel comfortable removing items.
I haven't run the Lenovo optimizer yet. I need a little guidance on how I should proceed. I have never used this forum before, so I don't even know how I will be contacted. My email address is [email protected].
Thanks in advance!

Hello Tech Support Forum Analysts -

Sorry for posting without this information the other day. Below you'll find the DDS report and attached the other two files you've asked for. The problem is that the computer is running ridiculously slow. If I open an Internet Explorer window, it'll take 2-3 minutes for the window to open and then if I click to type in a new web address, the computer will freeze for a minute or two before allowing me to enter the address. It's a continual cycle like this. Additionally, the problem gets worse the longer the computer is on. If I turn the computer on, it works much faster than an hour or two later.

Also, some programs have disappeared from the computer. These were programs I had installed in the past that my Mother does not know how to uninstall, like Microsoft Office and certain icons on the desktop.

I just installed AVG anti virus thinking there was a virus that was causing all of these problems, and that made the system run even slower.

Any help you can offer will be of great help.

Thanks,
Sara

I don't see anything wrong here except for one entry. So let's try disabling some programs and see how it works out.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

I don't know why but my computer seems to be running slowly lately. Watching a video there will be some frames missing. When I tried fast forwarding it would take 1-2 secs to load or the video would pause and the audio would keep going. This just started recently and I tried to see if it was just the files but when I rewatched the files that worked perfectly before there was lag. Also when I'm typing there is a lag from the input and when it appears. The lag isn't that bad but its noticeable. Also there is lag when erasing text. Also I get an error message when shutting down my computer but I can't read it because my computer shuts down before I get the chance to. The only things that I've done was updating windows, installed a VPN about a week ago, and installed a SSD about 1-2 months ago other than that all I've done was watch videos and browsed the internet.

A:Computer running slowly.

Have you ran the standard scans? I mean malwarebytes and a good deep scan with your Anti-Virus? Have you tried a restore point to before this started? Updated all video/network drivers?

We have many great tutorials here, made by some very knowledgeable people, have you tried any of these? : Optimize Windows 7

Hey guys, my computer started running incredibly slowly recently, so I ran a virus scan, turned up a few trojans, and deleted them, still didn't fix the problem.

Long story short, I've run the following scans:
Malwarebytes
Avira
Avast
SUPERantispyware

Caught some things at first, they now all come up clean. I also followed all the steps in the "Is your PC running slowly?" thread. My PC is still running slowly. I also occasionally get BSOD'd. I'm running windows XP(32 bit), it's a custom-built machine, and I don't have a windows install or recovery disk anymore.

Below is the DDS, and the attached reports. when I ran GMER I kept getting BSOD on the full scan, so I ran it with sections and C: only.

Thanks!

I've been having a slow experience with my computer for the past while. It used to be pretty quick at loading and booting up in Windows and running games and everything, but now a days its starting to become somewhat sluggish. My computer is 4 years old so I'm aware that that could be a factor in its performance, but I also know that it could still keep up in gaming and such if a few things were corrected. Examples of issues I notice are slow boot times into Windows (part where its at the blue windows loading screen), somewhat slow shutdown time, slow time to load up tray icons (MSN, Firewall, Anti Spyware, Volume Control, ect), sluggish performance in games in terms of framerate even with settings at minimum (aware this may be a video card issue), slow load time when opening applications like My Computer for the first time. I was just looking for some insight and feedback to see what some people, experienced with this issue, may give in order to get my computer back running the way it used to be.

The amount of games installed wont be helping, Check that your Pagefile isnt too large. Also, go to Properties of your main HDD and run Disk Cleanup (with all options selected) that should also free you some HDD space.

Hello,

My computer is running very slowly. I have an expired copy of Norton 2005 on the machine which I don't think is scanning anymore, so I have not checked for viruses/malware. I did do a windows scandisk which found and repaired a lot of bad clusters. That may have improved things somewhat. I do not have any popups or noticable malware running. It just slower than it should be. I use this pc for a single application at the office and it is rarely used for general surfing, never any torrent progs, etc.

I have attached gmer and attach.txt and posted DDS.txt below

I don't know what the "freedom hidden window" thing is you are seeing, some more info or a screenshot would be helpful.

It might be associated with this > C:\Program Files\Common Files\Command Software\dvpapi.exe

http://www.google.com/search?hs=tyX...idden+window"++"command+software"&btnG=Search

I see it present on other scanlogs where that is a reported issue.

But it's quite possible that your slow internet is due to the parental controls associated with McAfee -- if it is busy filtering.

You're 3rd party firewalll may be a factor too.

Hello. I've used these forums twice before with great success in dealing with my past computer issues and I am now helping a friend with her computer. She has a laptop which has been running very slowly for a week or so. It's even refused to boot up a few times (gets stuck in the loading screen). When it finally gets started, it takes a long time to browse the internet (just clicking on IE will freeze it up). I also know she ran torrent programs such as utorrent (which I deleted). This was not a well-protected computer in the past - I'm pretty sure the first time microsoft updates were installed was as recently as a few weeks ago.

I was hoping I could get some help removing excess programs from my girlfriend's PC. It's starting to run excessively slowly. We received it as a gift from my dad and I think he had installed quite a bit of software we will never use.

It is a HP laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium.
HP Pavilion dv9000.

When all is said and done, I'd like to have Picasa installed on it to edit pictures and Internet Explorer. Pretty much everything else goes unused.
Thanks!

Hello Rjpieces and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I see no signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. There are a couple of housekeeping items we can cleanup so let's do that while you are here.First, your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. If it is run from Temporary folders the backups and HijackThis itself could be accidentally deleted if the Temporary folders are cleaned. If it is run from the desktop then the backup files and folders can clutter up the desktop and be accidentally deleted. Please open My ComputerDouble-click on Local Disk (C:)Click on the File menu, point to New and then click on Folder. Name the folder 'HijackThis' or 'HJT'.Unzip to or copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder. Now, start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O2 - BHO: (no name) - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - (no file)O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://ka.bar.need2find.com/KA/menusearch.html?p=KANow close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair. Also, it looks like the java installation is missing some of its files. It is an older version anyway so let's update it. Updating Java:Note: the "XX" in the version will be whatever the latest version is.Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update XX.Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime ... Hi,

First of all, I am using a Dell Inspiron 600m. Recently I've began having problems with my computer running slowly. Since I have plenty of room left on my hard drive (19 GB) I think that there may be something on my computer, so if someone could please take a look at my logs I'd appreciate it. I tried running the Panda scan, but for some reason it would not work, so below is my DSS log.

Thanks!

Having run ComboFix, without a helper, I came to the ComboFix Log File and the instructions stated that the computer needed further analysis to find out if there were any further infections.I do seem to have lost that file probably because I must have saved it incorrectly so as requested I have attached the DDS files.
i could not create a GMER Log as the scan did not complete after running for 3 hours Windows shut down with the message "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. When it tried to restart itself I had the message "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" which I did with no response.
I had to press and hold the "ON" button to shut down after which it started correctly

Hi guys. I'm helping my girlfriend with her computer. You've been very helpful in the past! The main issue is that her computer is running so slowly that it's almost impossible to use it when not in safe mode (which is the only way I was able to run these scans). I noticed she had utorrent installed which I removed though she states she hasn't messed with torrents in a long time. Please help if possible. Thank you!

My WinXP Professional computer has been running very slowly. In looking at the task manager, winlogon.exe seems to be running around 95% most of the time.

I have run NAV and found no viruses and Adaware and found a few files that were removed after the scan.

In addition, the task bar and much of the windows are blacked out.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Computer running VERY Slowly

Please download HijackThis. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Post the whole log file here. Do not fix anything since most of them listed there are harmless (some are system required). This program will help us determine if there is any spyware/malware on your computer.

A:Computer Running Very Slowly-please Help!

Hello sara, I am SifuMike and I will be helping you. Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update. Updating Java: Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6. Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6". Click the "Download" button to the right. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". The page will refresh. A:please help, computer running slowly

i think it might be to do with WMI - as if something has got hold of it and is running prcesses - i keep getting a corrupt file on the D drive and having to fix it along with high interrupts-- is this a case of backing up important data to CD, clean install and wiping all hard drives then changing passwords? or is there something else? I've turned off WMI for the time being seems a little better.

Hi,sorry for the very general description, but since Christmas my computer has slowed down. It is very slow starting up, and when surfing the internet it occasionally runs very slowly, and very occassionally it locks up. It never used to do this, so I'm wondering if there's another problem. I've tried using tools such as Spybot, but nothing has been identified as a problem. Thanks in advance. A:Computer Running Slowly

Hello,I can't see anything suspicious here, but your problem is mainly caused because you are having 2 Antivirus installed. Bitdefender and AVG.Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously! The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with eachother, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown. I would strongly advise you to only have one Anti-Virus with the Auto-Protect feature running at any one time!If you decide to only keep one Anti-Virus installed, you should uninstall the other(s) through the Add or Remove Programs option in Control Panel. Also, I see Zonealarm installed. Keep in mind that, on some systems, it may indeed cause a serious slowdown, especially when browsing. This all depends what your Computer specs are. How much ram etc..I do not recommend Zonealarm when you have less than 512MB of ram.

Hey guys, I could use some help. My computer has been running very slowly lately. I have 67 free gigs of space, so I wouldn't think that's the problem. It's slow in the following ways:

Opening the start menu
Opening Programs
Running Firefox or any browser

programs seem to lag pretty badly when I have more than one open. Sometimes even when I only have one open. Could this be due to my computer's amount of RAM?

The computer is a Dell Dimension 8250.
It's about 3 years old but I try to maintain it well.
I've reformatted it once. I'd rather not do it again.

Here is a hijack this log incase that helps.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks again!
