# Computer freezing/slow- HijackThis log

Q: Computer freezing/slow- HijackThis log

Hi! My computer is very slow booting up and has drastically slowed down (or freezes) navigating between files/programs, opening and closing programs, etc.... I recently re-installed Microsoft Office 2007 and shortly before that had to re-install Java as well. Java Applets were not loading and running. Last time I had both of these programs installed, both seemed to cause the same problem- slowed common functions down (issues mentioned above) or froze. So, I decided to run HijackThis to see if the problem could be found. Any help you can give it appreciated!! Thanks in advance!!!

A:Computer Freezing; Slowing Down. But mostly freezing. I have my HiJackThis! Log File.

I don't see anything in your log or your description of your problem to come to the conclusion that your problem is malware related. When there is malware present there will always be other internet related symptoms like popups or a browser hijack etc...

I will advise you to uninstall Microsoft Anti-Spyware as the version you have is very old and no longer supported. It in now called Windows Defender.

Here are some routine maintenance practices that you should do on a regular basis to keep your machine running efficiently. Go through this now and see if it helps:

Disk Cleanup:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_cleanup_utility.htm

http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/artsit/Info/Guides/GoodPractice/defrag-win2kxp.htm

Run chkdsk:

To use Chkdsk, click Start and My Computer. Right-click the hard drive you want to check, and click Properties. Select the Tools tab and click Check Now. Check both boxes. Click Start. You'll get a message that the computer must be rebooted to run a complete check. Click Yes and reboot. Chkdsk will take awhile, so run it when you don't need to use the computer for something else.

Remove unnecessary startups

This should be done through the System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig.
Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by the items that you have determined are unnecessary. Click "Apply" then "Close"

You will be prompted to ... Read more

Hello,

I've recently experienced some difficulties with my Toshiba Satellite. Initially it started with a verrrry slow boot up, and then all programs constantly freeze (desktop, internet browser, Microsoft Office, start button, you name it). I ran a malware and antivirus and cleaned up the hard drive, which seemed to solve the problem, until all the same problems started up again. Re-ran the antivirus and nothing popped up, but not sure what it could be if not malware/virus. Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated!!! I am personally limited in technical prowess, and really appreciate any wisdom or insights! THANK YOU!

Hello and welcome to BleepingComputer! My name is Thisisu and I will be helping you with your malware related computer problems.I do have some basic rules while we are working together so please read and follow them:Be specific!
If you come across a problem while performing any of the steps listed here, do not simply state "It did not work." Tell me the exact error you encountered if one was given to you. For example, this is a much better response: "When I ran the ____ tool, an error box appeared on my screen and said 'Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion.'. There is only an 'OK' button in the box."Do not run any scans/fixes on your own!
If at any time you feel that you can handle the rest of your computer problems on your own without my help, just let me know! I will not be offended as there are others that need help with their computers. However, do not perform scans and/or fixes that I have not asked you to do on your own and then expect me to continue helping you because I will not!I will close the topic if I have not heard a response from you within 72 hours.
If you are going to be away, just let me know and I will leave the topic open until you can return.Let's begin: From Programs and Features (via Control Panel), please uninstall the below:Ask ToolbarAsk Toolbar UpdaterBabylon toolbar on IEBest Buy pc appEasyBits GO <== Potentially unwanted. Hi,

With the above problems suddenly appearing, I have done the following:
Disk Clean
Defrag (even though the system said it wasn't necessary at this time)
McAfee Full System Scan (no problems found)
AVG Antivirus Full System Scan (a few problems found and successfully removed)
Spybot Full Scan (problems successfully removed)
Spyzooka 2.5 Full Scan (problems successfully removed)

Running the following:
Windows Defender
Spyware Guard

I have also run msconfig and unchecked start-up programs that aren't needed, this seemed to help a lot, but the system still locks up after a while.

I also created a new Firefox profile as I have read that "old" profiles will tend to slow down after time. This help with the subsequent first couple of browser opens, but has again slowed down.

Here is my latest HiJackThis scan:

A:Computer Slow, Freezing, and Firefox slow

Hello and welcome to TSF.

You are running two antivirus applications, i.e. AVG and McAfee.

While this may seem like greater protection, it can cause problems including slowdowns and system hangs. Keep one and uninstall the other.

Any antivirus program must be removed via add/remove program.
For any program that doesn't have an add/remove entry, you will have to do this:
re-install the program -> reboot -> uninstall

As stated in our pre-posting sticky...NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help

Quote:

3. Uninstall the following via Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel:
? If you have more than one antivirus software installed, leave only ONE and uninstall the others.

If you're still having issues, please provide the logs requested in the above sticky.

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don?t hear from you in three days this thread will be closed.

My computer has been doing strange things lately:

First it kept restarting itself and running scandisk microsoft said the problem was related to AOL. I have since reinstalled the AOL software and that problems seems to be better, but not sure if it just hasn't happened again.

Next, my computer has crashed several other times this week and online crash analysis from microsoft have told me several things. One was related to a Memories disc AFS/AFS2k driver, which I have no idea about, but installed some download it recommended to fix it--hopefully I will not recieve that error again.

Now my computer keeps freezing, to the point where I have to hold the button in and turn it off to get the computer working again at all. When I turn the computer back on, it of course runs scandisk, I got some other crash anaylsis yesterday about some driver, but of course before I could fix the problem or save the response, my computer froze again. This has happened like three more times since, but this time with no error logs from microsoft, the computer just starts back up.

I ran spybot, adaware, and a Mcaffe Virus scan all came up clean.
So I thought if no one has any other suggestions why my computer is doing this to me I would post a hijack this log and see what someone more knowlegable might find.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

So around a month ago i was trying to download an audiobook torrent for the book 'the road'. i clicked the torrent (i wasn't on pirate bay) anyway my computer went nuts from there, for the last month my computer has been extremely slow. I have since downloaded Malwarebytes, HyjackThis, and McAfee. Their is one Trojan that Malwarebytes has been unable to delete, even upon restart. I have also run pandasoft scans, however my computer freezes generally 30-45 min after being turned on. So i haven't gotten the results from that in a few weeks...but when i ran it last night it was saying at 13% of completion it had found 16 suspicious things.

I just completed another Malwarebytes scan, and i will paste it on below my HyjackThis log. Thank you VERY much, if you can figure out what i should do i would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks so much!!

My laptop has been freezing a lot lately. All programs freeze up, I get "Computer Not Responding" when I ctrl, alt, delete. Once I close the extra programs I don't need to run, I will try to open Internet Explorer or Yahoo Messenger but nothing happens. When I attempt to restart the computer, it will shutdown to the "Sony Vaio" screen saver and then sit there until I manually turn off the power switch. Also, usually after about an hour or so, I'll get the so called "Blue screen of death" and am forced to restart my computer.

I'm not really sure what the problem is and obviously it's stemming further than this, but here's a HijackThis log for good measure:

My computer has been very slow and occasionally freezing up the past few days. It has never donme this before. I am running windows 2000. I have webroot spysweeper (purchased at office depot), zone alarm firewall, and symantec anti-virus. I've also downloaded bazooka and spy hunter free anti-spyware. none of the anti-spyware programs shows anything except: spy hunter shows "seekseek" in a certain registry location, but will not remove it without my buying the full software. I looked around and found instructions for removing seekseek myself, and based on that it looks like I don't have it: the files I am supposed to remove are not on my computer, either in the places they say they should be, or, based on a search, at all; and the registry entries I am supposed to change aren't there either. Is this a scam to get me to buy the software, or is the seekseek program sometimes in different places and in different forms than what I read?

of course, i get a dozen or more e-mails every day with virus attachments on them. I never open them, and often get the notification windows asking me what to do. I always choose to delete the attachment, then i delete the e-mail altogether and then empty the deleted items folder.

I particpate in several list serves, and sometimes open attachments, but of course not if there's been a warning the attachment is infected.

I have a HP Pavillion dv9417ca Notebook PC with AMD Turion 64X2 Mobile Technology Tl-56, 2.0G Ram, NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 with Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP2.

The computer when running slowly makes a ton of noise starting up and running and tends to use more processing. The computer sometimes makes weird noises that aren't normal windows sounds and come from error's. Like intense beeping noises ocassionally. Firefox especially is insanely slow and the longer I run it the more processing power it uses up along with the plugins.exe. Sometimes it will uses so much that it completely freezes my computer. Lately I've also been having trouble starting the computer where it won't even load windows.

I've ran Ccleaner daily and Malwarebytes weekly and find nothing and the problem has been getting progressively worse. I have Avast which updates daily.

first off, here are my specsAMD Athlon 64 X2 5200M2N-e Asus motherboard2 gigs (1gig x2) Corsair dual channel ramNvidia Geforce 7900 GS 256mb PCI-EWhen I first built my computer and loaded windows, it worked super fast. Now, its slower then my older computer, which I thought was impossible. I mean...This is pathetic. I unistalled AVG cause there was a process running that is supposed to be a Trojan, and a program said AVG was running it. So, I deleted it, was prompted to restart, so I did. It took literally 10 minutes to shut down and restart. At worst, my old computer took 5 minutes. (P4 2.8, 1.5 gigs ram, ATI Radeon 9800). So, how do I fix this? I have a theory its Microsoft forcing people to upgrade by putting out crappy updates. I mean, for my card, the newest driver is dated the beginning of last year...They come out with a new one but its Vista only. Woo...idiots. So basically it started about 3 days ago, aprox. 4 days after this computer was built. I was playing Battlefield 1942, it froze. I tried 5 times, it froze in different spots at different times. I reinstalled. Same thing. Oblivion goes for about 30 minutes then crashes to the desktop. I then hit the window to maximize again, and it freezes. This has happened everytime as well. I also did older games, same thing, but done differently. Battlefield was the only one that froze the entire computer to where i had to manually shut it off. Then today I randomly check my processes, and theres 2 runn... Read more

A:I Need Help...slow Computer, Freezing Games, On A Fast Computer...(possible Trojan)

The first thing which strikes me is that you have 2 anti-virus applications on your computer ( Zone Alarm security suite and AVG Free) Having two anti virus applications running on your PC can give conflicts so I suggest you uninstall one.For the antispyware applications do you have all real time protection enabled?..I first would try Microsoft online test and see what comes up. The freezing can also indicate faulty memory, there for run a Memtest to rule that out.

My computer for the past while now is running very slow, on startup for example the icons take a few minute to all load properly, and if I try to open some programs like IE + steam it will freeze up and go unresponsive sometimes requiring a complete restart of the computer. Other times I will try to open task manager but the screen will just go blank and then after 5-10 minutes or so it will work, but it will also freeze after the computer has been on for hours sometimes. The other day it completly froze up 5-6 times after each restart. My computer doesn't freeze up all the time but the rest of the time it will run very slowly, like opening IE will take 4-5 seconds in loading or trying to install programs it will hang for a while before running.

Its strange because the computer can run fine for a day or two without any freezing or crashing, other times it can freeze and require restarts many times in a row, any help would be appreciated with this problem I have as it is quite problematic.
Im not sure what else to add, if anything else is needed tell me and i'll add it.

I have Windows XP home version on my HP Pavillion computer using Internet Explorer 7 and service pack 3. Lately my computer is taking forever to start up. It also freezes a lot and I get messages saying Windows is increasing the size of my virtual memory. I have scanned regularily with Avira Antivirus free and have tried defragmenting as well. I often get a warning error on the left bottom side of the icon tray saying "done, but with errors on page" Hotmail is running terribly slow and when I do Google searches, I often get stuck and can't get back or out of the site. Should I post a hijack this log? If so can you guide me through the process?

A:computer very slow and freezing up

How much RAM is installed?

Is XP managing the virtual memory?

Errors on webpages...I think that's pretty common, but it may indicate that you need to dump your cache or repair/reinstall IE or even upgrade to IE8.

How much free space on C:, how large is C:?

Freezing can be attributed to many things...I would not leap to the "I must have malware" theory of computing.

<<...when I do Google searches, I often get stuck and can't get back or out of the site>>

Can you explain more clearly...Google searches on my systems just bring up a list of various sites...do you mean that you cannot close the window for a given site visited?

Louis

A:computer slow and freezing.

Reduction of startup programs as well as cleaning up the registry would be one means
to determine if the system lockups were caused by too many startups or invalid registry
keys where Windows continued to look for programs no longer installed.

The reboots could be one of two things. If you were running an application at the time
of a reboot that might be due to XP's own crash control feature which restarts the pc
to prevent system locks. The other could very well be a failing power supply. Have you
performed any recent softwares changes?

First of all, 500 MB of RAM for XP is not much. I recommend at least 1 GB.

You can trim your Startup programs a bit.

Click Start > Run > type msconfig.

Select the Startup tab.

Uncheck the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [igfxtray] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [igfxhkcmd] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [igfxpers] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Smapp] C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\SMTray.exe

===================================================================

You can get rid of Windows Defender. It's just about useless and runs in real-time. It will only slow down your computer. You'd be much better off with the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

===================================================================

You can also switch Automatic Updates to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them". (Start > Run > wuaucpl.cpl)

===================================================================

Click Start > Run > type services.msc

Scroll down to the Windows Installer service. Make sure it's Stopped and Manual.

===================================================================

Reboot the computer.
After rebooting, when the small System Configuration Utility window appears, ignore the message. Put a check mark in that window, then click OK.

A:HELP, computer slow and freezing up; HJT log

Hi, raven742

Welcome to TSG.

There is no sign of malware in your log. It could be due to lack of resources.

Here are some routine maintenance practices that you should do on a regular basis to keep your machine running efficiently.

Click start then run, type Prefetch then press enter, click edit then select all, right click any file then click delete, confirm delete.

Click start, all Programmes, Accessories, System Tools to run Disc Clean up, then from System Tools, also run Disc Defragmenter.

Click start then run, ChkDsk /R then press enter, type Y to confirm for next boot, press enter then reboot.

Windows will appear to load normally then either the monitor will show progress or the screen will go blank, do not disturb this process.

This will take an hour or so before it gets to the desktop.

Remove unnecessary startups

This should be done through the System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig. Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by the items that you have determined are unnecessary. Click "Apply" then "Close"

You will be prompted to restart. Go ahead and restart.

Upon restart you will be confronted with a dialogue box warning about running in selective startup. Just ignore that message and put a check in the box by "Don't show me this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" and click "OK". You will not... Read more

I recently cleared most of the hard drive onto my external one because of a very slow system. now even after clearing out my documents, it still slows down to a stop sometimes. when i can open task manager, my cpu % is at 0 and never more than 10 even though it has taken up to 5 or minutes just to open a file. plus, sometimes if i press ctrl-alt-del trying to get out of no movement, the screen goes black for a couple minutes and then an error window pops up saying ctrl-alt-del can't be accessed. when this has happened though, i haven't had the best of patience, so i didn't write down the error message. when all has literally frozen, for up to ten minutes sometimes, i can still move the cursor around, which leads to believe something is responsible for this that needs to be removed. am wondering if it is also on my external HD since the last couple times i have hooked up to it, it has taken so long to open up a file that i had to turn it off. i haven't scanned it with malwarebytes or eset, but i have my laptop and nothing is found. so i need to address the external HD also.

In the late afternoon on 12/20/2014, I clicked on a link for a survey from SurveySavvy.  All of a sudden, my computer was frozen  and Norton Internet security messages kept popping up saying that it blocked several malware items.  My computer has continued to barely function, and I can't run a virus scan.  I have to shut down the computer manually.  I believe that that my computer is infected with a virus of some sort.  Please help me with the problem.

I am running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit version

It has frozen with on browser, an outlook open. I've done numerous virus scans, ad-aware scans, and changed my fire-wall. This is my hijackthis log, I would truly appreciate any help you can give me. A:computer slow and freezing

Hello, and welcome.

Not every slow machine is due to malware infection. Sometimes, it's an overheated machine, or one that needs general maintenance, such as cleaning the temp files and running defrag.

There doesn't appear to be anything active in your HijackThis log.

We like our members to begin here, though....

http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...tml#post342651

After running through all the steps, please post the requested logs.

They are more comprehensive.

This is my sister's computer. It is running Windows 2000 Professional. I scanned it with a free spyware scanner and found quite a bit of spyware, and I used a Cleaner to rid alot of temporary and unneccessary files. I installed ZoneAlarm because this computer didnt have a firewall, but its still running pretty slow and freezes quite a bit. I wanted to know if there's anything more suspicious in the log that could be causing this or not.

I've recently experienced a slow down in the speed of my computer and it has also froze a couple of times. I'm also receiving a "Windows Security Alert" message that tells me my computer may be at risk. I'm on a Dell laptop with Windows Vista, computer's slow starting up and while in use, freezes often and I have to manually shut down. Also I keep having Windows updates that I have to install before shutting down and they keep coming up again every time I shut down the computer despite constantly installing them, I think I got some kind of bug.

Hello elec420, and welcome to TSF. You may wish to Subscribe to this thread so that you are notified when you receive a reply. To do this click Thread Tools (above the first post), then click Subscribe to this Thread. Make sure it is set to Instant Notification, then click Subscribe.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions. If there is anything you don't understand, please ask BEFORE proceeding with the fixes. Please do these steps in order and do not skip any.

Multiple Antivirus
I see you have two or more antivirus programs installed (Norton, Trend Micro). Multiple antivirus programs can bog down your system, interfere with each other, and may even cause crashes. I highly recommend you remove all but one of them using the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

Unhide Files
Go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab and select "Show hidden files and folders". Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" option. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside "Hide file extensions for known file types". Click OK.

WARNING: CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any temporary folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!

i have not downloaded anything new in the past few days, and i have done a virus scan with avast, which is what i use, and that antimalware thing, and also super anti spyware or whatever its called and the only thing that shows up are a few cookies on the super anti spyware, and i fix those, and it still does the same thing., other than that, nothing else shows up.

im really confused, because if it was my internet provider, my desktop wouldnt be slow too. so can someone please help me? i dont now what to do.

A:slow computer, everything freezing up.....

Try this..... When you turn your computer on hit ctrl+alt+delete to open task manager. Check your CPU useage and see if there are any processes running that look odd or are taking up a lot of resources. Let us know what you find....

Also, have you tried going in to safemode to see if you have the same problem? To get in to safemode gently tap F8 as the computer reboots. Select safemode with networking from the options.

My computer has been really slow lately, for probably about a week and a half to two weeks now. It freezes quite often, for a few seconds, and everything is just slow. A:Computer Really Slow, Keeps Freezing

Before doing anything further, if you have not already done so, you should back up all your important documents, personal data files and photos to a CD or DVD drive as some infections may render your computer unbootable during or before the disinfection process. If that occurs there may be no option but to reformat and reinstall the OS or perform a full system recovery. The safest practice is not to backup any files with the following file extensions: exe, .scr, .ini, .htm, .html, .php, .asp, .xml, .zip, .rar, .cab as they may be infected. How to Backup Data in Windows XP Home - How to install the Backup utilityHow to Backup Data in Windows XP ProHow to Backup in Windows VistaHow to Backup and Restore in Windows 7How to use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup Files from your dead Windows ComputerUsing Ultimate Boot CD for Windows to Rescue Files from a Computer that will not Boot CorrectlyPlease follow these instructions: How to remove Google Redirects or the TDSS, TDL3, Alureon rootkit using TDSSKillerDouble-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.

A:Computer is slow and is freezing up...

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Before you give us a new log here, if we gave you instructions for a fix, please do the fixes first and then post the new log with this updated version.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Post the HijackThis log here.

Hello, I'm having some serious issues on my computer. Everything I attempt to open takes much longer than it should, and the computer is freezing anywhere from 2 seconds to 2 minutes where I can' do anything until it unlocks itself. I'm at a loss for what is causing the problem as my anti virus scans are turning up nothing. Thank you ahead of time for your help!

Im new into computers so i don't know much except that it was running fine yesterday until i installed a game... After i installed it i turned off my computer and didn't use it till the next day. When i logged in everything was fine until a few minutes in 1-5 my computer randomly frozed and this happened over and over again and i had to restart my comp everytime by the button on the box. I then rebooted my comp into safety mode and deleted and uninstalled the game and restarted my comp. Now it doesn't freeze anymore but it lags like hell (Softwares take long to load up, slow speed)... Can anyone please help me ? I'm not sure if its a virus or not cause i have an anti-virus so it should tell me but does anyone have any idea..?

A:Computer freezing then slow?

Where did you get the game, was it from an official source or a P2P download?

You could try System Restore to take it back before you installed the game.

Please post what version of Windows you are using.

Hello, I am having a burger of a time with my system right now. When i turn my system on and it runs for awhile, it slows way down. The svchost.ext was getting into the 300K and 400K, so i would delete it from the task manager and the system would seem to speed up a bit, but then it would be right back up there again. I did a search on google how to help this, and they recommened me to buy a program called PC Health Advisor, so i bought it, and ran it, but it does not seem to help my system at all. Please let me know what I need to do, so you all can assist me. Thank you so much,
Roger Bice
All my computer specs are listed on my profile.

Roger
I could not get my screenshots to work here, so i put them on my website, I have taken a screenshot of my task manager.

Hey,
Just a quick intro: I just got back from an overnight holiday to find my computer is slow as hell. It takes 10+ minutes to boot up, programs such as Firefox, My Computer, Control Panel, etc frequently freeze for a while before working again.
I've got Norton 360 (Latest one, Up to date, etc), Malware Bites and I've run a full scan with both, both have turned up with nothing. I've tried looking for processes in Task Manager that are hogging up memory/CPU and cant find anything, also tried disabling Unneeded startup programs in msconfig.

None of this has worked so I'm :S atm.

Computer Specs:
Windows Vista SP2
Intel Core 2 Quad Core Q6600 2.4ghz
Memory 4gbs
2 500GB Hard Drives
Nvidia 250 GT 512mb

Other info: I've had it since 2008, Haven't reformated it since I got it, was planning to after going to a massive LAN place next weekend. Google Desktop is also popping up with these error messages on start up as well:
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/2069/slowfrozen.jpg

Anyone got any ideas apart from reformating ?

A:Computer is slow/freezing up.

Also every so often I hear this tick noise coming from the computer and I recently installed Crysis Warhead which apparently has SecureRom with it which maybe causing the problems?

My computer is infected with an unknown undetectable trojan. I tried with Malwarebytes, F secure, Eset, Emsisoft, norton, Kaspersky Virus Removal Too, tddskiller and Dr.Web anti-virus scanner. All them said there no malware found. My computer was doing fine until couple days ago .It keeps slowing down and freezing every so often. I made no new installations of any programs. I did not have any new add ons. Clearly its a undetectable trojan. I want top get rid of this trojan without having to uninstall everything and completely havin to start all over again. Here is my DDS report..DDS (Ver_2011-08-26.01) - NTFSx86 Internet Explorer: 9.0.8112.16421 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_31Run by alvin at 10:26:08 on 2012-05-01Microsoft? My laptop is running really slow and after about 8 minutes or so it completely freezes. I have already run mbam and found that it had some infected files which I cleaned but it still eventually freezes up after a few minutes of logging in. I have also stopped some programs from starting up when logging in to see if that would help but it didnt. I also did a system restore to see if that fixed the problem but it didnt. Im not sure if it is still infected or if it is something else. It runs fine in safe mode.

A:Computer slow and freezing

Can you perform a Factory Restore? Factory Restores differ from system restores in that they return the laptop to like it was when you first took it out of it's box. Because it works in Safe Mode but not in normal mode, malware has probably corrupted a driver as well as other things

A:computer slow, freezing, need help

Hi and welcome

Install the program and launch it.
First, in the bottom right-hand corner of the main window click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.
Then in the main window: Click Start and under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Then deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
To start the scan, click the Next button.
When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and then click Next).

Open SpyBot Search & Destroy (Click Start, Programs, SpyBot S&D (Advanced Mode).
Close all browser windows, click ''Check for Problems''.
When the scan is finished let SpyBot fix/remove all it finds marked in RED.

Reboot, post a new Hijack This log.

It is actually troubling me for a few months now. I thought that I solved the problem a few weeks ago because i found out that my hard drives didn't work properly anymore, so I bought a new one and did a fresh install of windows 7 on it. It did seem to work for a few weeks but since yesterday my pc started to freeze again sometimes with in the end a BSOD, and now i can barely get it to start. Hi

My computer was cleaned last week with the help of a distinguished (smart!) member. I have begun to have problems again with it. My anti virus program does not seem to be working. It shows an error message and says that it is not updated even though I have made sure that the virus definitions were up to date. It takes several minutes for explorer to load and I have cable internet....it is slower than dial up! Also, the screen will freeze and the desktop will disappear. I have included my hijack this log. Any help will be appreciated.

My computer has been running very slow lately and even freezes most of the time when getting to the desktop in normal mode. I was able to startup in Safe mode with networking and run several scans, including A-squared and Spybot. I get an error when trying to launch Ad-Aware. Each of the scans found a few things and I deleted them. The computer is currently allowing me into normal mode, but takes a long time to boot, freezes several times before I am able to do anything, and is even freezing as I am typing this message. Below is my HJT log. Any help you may be able to give me to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Ursula

I am using a Dell PC (Dimension C521) running Windows XP and lately has been extremely slow, freezing, getting the "end program now" message, just really a mess. I ran a HJT log and am going to try to attach it. Not sure what else to do unless I restore. I have Symantec Endpoint Protection (2009 I think) and run live updates often. Those scans come up clean. Spybot Search and Destroy comes up clean. I am pretty limited on my computer knowledge.

Hi there. So lately my computer has been slow and the mouse keeps on freezing. When I ran a scan with Ad-Aware and with Super Antispyware, they found some things which I removed, but it still seems rather slow. I'm pretty sure I have some type of spyware or a virus or something. Thank you for any help!Edit: Also, when I clicked the DSS logo, it didn't come up with all of the prompts it was supposed to do.. it just told me what it was doing, and it only came up with this one log... A while back, when someone here was helping me a different problem, they instructed me download DSS and it ran the way it was supposed to last time. Maybe I still had the other DSS I downloaded before when I downloaded it just now, and that's why it didn't give the right logs?? Sorry about that.. Oh and also, all of the hidden files on my desktop and in My Documents and such are now shown. Hello,

So usually I can fix these things myself, but I just can't figure this one out!

Webpages are freezing up randomly, when they freeze I cannot just close them normally, I have to ask them to "end now" and then all the pages open close. It's fun. Oh yes.

Also all of a sudden my comupter is super slow, the internet and everything. Do not know if this is related or what.

And when I run Search and Destroy, sometimes it finds spywear but sometimes not.

And NOrtons one button check up is always finding Program integrity things wrong.

So here is my hijack log:

Hello. I am having serious problems with my desktop. I have been experiencing slow internet. I am using a wireless connection on my desktop. I can't get a wired connection at this time. Sometimes my internet runs really well and fast then it's non existant again. Yesterday I was playing facebook games and the page started to get stuck and then IE asked me to recover page which I did then I checked for solutions then a mini box popped up and asked me to fix problem so I clicked OK which was a big mistake. This installed something called HomeTab on my computer which hijacked my browser settings/homepage settings. I immediately uninstalled it and reset my homepages back to what they were before but now I cannot stay connected to the internet or do much of anything. Windows explorer is also slow. My computer is 5 years old and dragging, freezing like crazy. When my computer acts this way, so does the internet. I feel like something is dragging it down. I've run AVG scan which cleaned up some files, I ran Malware Bytes until it came up clean but the computer and internet is still slow. Opening folders take longer than it should. Here is my HJT log. Help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

My son downloaded Minecraft on my laptop and since the download I am unable to use the computer. Programs freeze and crash or take several minutes to load.  I tried to restore the system--it removed minecraft-- but the laptop is still not working.  I am in safe mode now and it took several minutes and restarting a couple of times for me to get online. The last time I restarted a Norton message popped up: Auto-Protect is processing security risk WS.Reputation.1.

It took almost all day, but I was able to run FRST.  Below is the log and attached is the addition txt.

A:Help Computer running slow and freezing

Since you suspect your computer has a trojan, you should run a full hard drive scan with Norton Antivirus.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You should download and install Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06 and Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4, run their update function and install all updates for them, run a full system scan with Ad-Aware and fix everything it finds, run a scan with Spybot and fix everything in red it finds, then reboot.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are too many unnecessary programs running in the background that don't need to be.

Performed a McAphee virus scan and it showed two trojans, it gave message that the files couldnt be cleaned so to either delete or quarantine. Hit delete and said couldnt delete had to clean or quarantine, hit quarantine and said couldnt quarantine had to either delete or clean. Left for work and returned and performed another viruscan and nothing was detected. Computer started running really slow and freezing up for 5-10 min at a time, especially if i tried to do anything with McAphee security center. Viruscan was disabled so every time I try to enable it in the Security Center it says its on but if I exit it turns off agian.

A:Extremely slow computer, freezing often

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.65.0.1400

SUPERAntiSpyware 5.6.0.1010

Make sure to update their definition files during the install process.

Make sure to uncheck and decline to install any extras, such as toolbars and homepages, they may offer.

Make sure to uncheck and decline to use the "Pro" or "Trial" version, if it's offered.

After they're installed and updated, restart the computer.

Run a QUICK scan with each of them.

When each scan is finished, select and remove EVERYTHING they found.

Restart the computer, if prompted to, so the removal process can finish.

Note: DON'T use the computer while each scan is in progress.

My computer (AMD Athlon 1.5) has in the last few days been giving me some problems. Programs freeze, windows XP won't load all the time, computer running slow.

I ran all the spyware/antivirus stuff.

I ran the "system check" from PC Pitstop, and it gave me this:
"TIP > Unusually low disk performance
Drive C has an uncached speed of 1.56 megabytes per second.

For comparison, systems with the same CPU and clock speed as this one have a speed of 3.97 MB/s"

I have run the test several times before, and it never gave me that message!
Any solutions?

Thanks,
Jarrett

A:slow running/freezing computer

I don't see anything bad in that log. The first place to start would be performing some routine maintenance on the machine.

Here are some routine maintenance practices that you should do on a regular basis to keep your machine running efficienly:

Disk Cleanup:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_cleanup_utility.htm

http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/artsit/Info/Guides/GoodPractice/defrag-win2kxp.htm

Run chkdsk:

To use Chkdsk, click Start and My Computer. Right-click the hard drive you want to check, and click Properties. Select the Tools tab and click Check Now. Check both boxes. Click Start. You'll get a message that the computer must be rebooted to run a complete check. Click Yes and reboot. Chkdsk will take awhile, so run it when you don't need to use the computer for something else.

Remove unnecessary startups

This should be done through the System Configuration Utility. Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig.
Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by the items that you have determined are unnecessary. Click "Apply" then "Close"

You will be prompted to restart. Go ahead and restart.

Upon restart you will be confronted with a dialogue box warning about running in selective startup. Just ignore that message and put a check in the box by "Don't show me this message again" and click "OK". You will not be bothered by the message again.
