Application Configuration error (XP)

Q: Application Configuration error (XP)

Hey there,

I'm on windows XP

when it comes to installing many new applications (not pirated or anything) I get this error

"C:\filelocation\program.exe

This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

It has happened both for the new MSN (Im stuck using windows messenger) and Ableton Live 8.03

I've obviously tried reinstalling a whole bunch of times, but no luck. Is my only option here reformat, could it be something viral? Or something more simple (i hope!)

Cheers and thanks a lot

Hello,

Some History: I ran Secunia Online Software Inspector as part of another Topic related to clearing up some malware. I got a message that i needed to update Adobe Reader 7.X. When i hit the link, it gave me a Windows Installer error message: The upgrade patch cannot be installed because the program to be updated may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be updated exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch. I verified that Adobe Reader 7.X was in my program files. Tried to delete it there and also in Add/Change progams, but got an error message...Error 1327. Invalid drive: h:\. I was refered to another topic that discussed remapping registry/drive assignments, and I found that there were a few items that were mapped to drive H which i changed to drive C. This resolved my issue and i was able to download and update Adobe Reader 9.1, the latest version.

However, when i tried to use Adobe Reader 9.1, I get the following error message:

" This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem "

I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling v9.1 and also reinstalling v.8. I continue to get the same error message. I'm not sure if I created a problem when I redirected the drive mapping as mentioned above.

I've also noticed a lot of Error lines in my Event Viewer / Systems.

I'm not sure whether this question belongs in a software forum or this one, but when I now attempt to open any of my files of saved pictures I'm getting the following message; "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.'

What application is it referring to? I do not know what application is used to open up pictures, so I don't know what to attempt reinstalling to hopefully correct the problem.

Anyone have an idea of what this application is or how I could determine what it is?....or what this new problem may be?

Thanks...

Check your drivers at the manufacturer's website, or the motherboard manufacturer's website...
You might want to update or restore your BIOS as a start, but the problem is not uncommon.

Windows 7, on Toshiba Laptop, all of the recent windows updates have been installed.
I was having issues running the new zynga game on facebook, the ville. I assumed that it was a resource hog and didn?t like the laptop, and it was possible that I didn?t have the most recent installment of Adobe flash, so I upgraded that as well. It still wouldn?t run. So I decided to clean up the hard drive.
I used control panel to uninstall a game that the kids no longer play because it?s now obsolete. I also uninstalled Quickbooks (it wasn?t just quickbooks, it was a bunch of crapware that was installed on the laptop when we purchased it, but since we don?t use quickbook I figured we could get rid of it.) the only reason I bother stating all of this is because I believe in full disclosure. You never know which action caused the issue so it?s best to tell it all. Sorry for the ramble.
I have been noticing that the machine was running slower lately, so that is why I decided to de-clutter the hard drive.
After doing this and rebooting I found that I was unable to run Rockmelt, it came up with the following:

We are getting the above error randomly on some of the laptops we have deployed. The error comes right after you boot or when the windows 7 is left running. There are no special software running. The error in details is below.
"The boot configuration Data (BCD) settings for the following boot application have changed since Bitlocker was enabled
boot appplication: \windows\system32\winload.exe
change settings: 0x26000090
You must supply a bitlocker recovery key to start this system.
Confirm that the changes to the BCD settings are trusted.

If the changes are trusted then suspend and resume bitlocker. This will reset bitlocker to use the new BCD settings.
Otherwise restore the original BCD settings"

Can anyone please explain on how to correct this error. As before this is happening on few of the machines and we are seeing more as we go. Any tips would be nice...Thanks

I have a network with a windows 2008 domain controller and exchange 2010 server with a windows 7 developer [W7DEV] desktop each with static IP assigned. My domain is connected to Comcast and is assigned a static IP. Recently, my W7DEV NIC was updated with the DNS1 and DNS2 from Comcast that causes my Outlook to fail to connect to my exchange server. Looking at ipconfig /displaydns shows the exchange server with the Comcast IP instead of my local network server IP. I removed the Comcast DNS IP addresses, but when I close the dialog, it reverts back to displaying the Comcast DNS1 and DNS2. I see in the registry that the IP addresses are listed for the NIC, and deleting them doesn't remove them.

I recently installed iTunes to view a video, and thought it might be the problem, so I uninstalled it without any resolution. I checked for restore points, but the only ones showing are related to software upgrades.

How can I determine from the registry which applications are controlling the assignment of IP addresses to the NIC in W7DEV? Since this problem happened suddenly, I suspect a virus or other intrusion, but I do have Microsoft Threat Management Gateway installed separating my network from Comcast, and I do have Microsoft essentials, AVG 2013 and WiseFixer on W7DEV.

Any assistance will be appreciated. Thank you.

A:Application Configuration Inncorrect

Hello M.sonda, Welcome to TSF!

Before we look at any other possibilities that my be causing this problem, please try this workaround...

You will need your Windows? XP SP2 CD.

(In the event that you do not have a Windows? XP CD with SP2, you will need to 'borrow' one from a friend or colleague, as the manufacturer's "Recovery Discs" will not work in this instance.)

Insert the Windows? XP CD in your drive. (Hold down the Shift Key to prevent it from starting.)

Go Start > Run ...in the box type in sfc /scannow ?please take note of the space between the sfc and the /.

This is the System File Checker...it will scan all the Windows? core system files to ensure that they are in their respective correct places, and if not replace them from the CD.

During the scan you may be asked to Insert the CD, if this happens just go retry and let it do its thing.

One important point: While sfc is running, it is not advisable to do any other work, or have any browsers/programs running on the computer, until the scan is complete. (This process will generally take around 45-65 minutes to complete).

Once finished, remove the CD and reboot your machine...all should be "Normal" (hopefully).

Please post back with the result, or if there are any further queries/concerns.

Kind Regards,

Hey, after recently doing a cleanup on my machine (Windows XP Home SP2 - I ran chkdsk /f; compact /s; defrag c: -f; and cleanmgr) I have been receiving messages such as the following when trying to open MSN or Network Magic:
C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I tried uninstalling then reinstalling MSN, but this didn't fix the problem at all. I have ran 2 reg cleaning programs; RegSeeker and TuneUp - neither of which fixed the issue. I then uninstalled Java and reinstalled that again (I read somewhere that someone did this to resolve the issue with MSN) - however that also did not work.

I was hoping someone else would have some solutions which I could try to fix this error! Thanks in advance,

I have a new installation of windows 7/64 bits
system:

All drivers are installed
Microsoft Office 2007 installed and working
Some games installed and working

I can not open winzip files and bit defender anymore.

I get the message:
The application can not be started because the configuration is incorrect together.
With bitdefender i've got some dll messages.

Some things done but to no solution:
http://answers.microsoft.com/nl-nl/....9-886334d62f24

System recovery: no more DLL messages but now bit defender is doing nothing.

What could be the cause of this problem?

A:application can not be started because the configuration is incorrect

Just my thoughts.
Bitdefender has been causing problems for some. It's been a mixed group of problems.
Suggestion: Remove Bitdefender using their online tool. Reboot and install MSE.

Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

Some more thoughts.
Have you installed all updates for Windows 7 and Office?

Is Winzip subscription up to date?

I was reading an old thread in which multiple users were looking for drivers for the Dell branded SK-3185 multimedia keyboard. After some searching, I have determined that, for Windows 10 at least, the Dell Multimedia USB Keyboard, v. 2020, A05 driver (which is designed to be used with ME, 2K, or XP), works well, and provides functionality for all multimedia and specialty keys. It can be found on the Dell website at the following link:

Sorry for the big tittle
Now I noticed that when i open my task manager sometimes just randomly windows media player network sharing service configuration application runs, but not only 1 there is 5-6 of them all taking about the same amount.
I tried looking online for tutorials i tried disabling it in registry in the processes tab but nothing would work. I don't even need to turn my wmp12 on the process starts just by itself and its really irritating.
I am running a small home network with 2 pc one on windows 7 and one on xp but the funny thing is that even if the second one is off this process starts by itself.
I am running Windows 7 Professional x64
Windows media player 12

Thank you for all your help in advance

A:Windows media player network sharing service configuration application

This is a feature to share media between different computers on the same network, and with other devices as well. If you are not using this features you can disable it.

Start> In search box type services.msc> Enter> Double click on Windows media player network sharing service

Click on Startup type and set to Disabled

Click Apply and OK your way out.

Hi,
By enabling the "Default Protection for Recommended Software" in the new EMET 5.5 GP template one will get Microsoft's recommended settings for a good mix of useful third party software, such as Chrome, FireFox and similar.
In the case of FireFox, most mitigations are activated when enabling this setting, including EAF and EAF+.
As several posts to this forum have pointed out, EAF/EAF+ does in some cases have a huge performance impact on certain applications, including FireFox. I have therefore tried to add a entry in the "Application Configuration" for firefox.exe,
with parameters "-EAF -EAF+" in order to disable those two mitigations, leaving the "Default Protection for Recommended Software" untouched.
After a reboot, FireFox does seem a bit more snappy, but the GUI reports that EAF and EAF+ is enabled.
When running a EMET_Conf.exe -list I now have two entries for firefox.exe:

firefox.exe DEP SEHOP NullPage HeapSpray MandatoryASLR BottomUpASLR LoadLib MemProt Caller SimExecFlow
StackPivot
firefox.exe *\Mozilla Firefox DEP SEHOP NullPage HeapSpray EAF EAF+ MandatoryASLR BottomUpASLR LoadLib MemProt Caller
SimExecFlow StackPivot

The EMET GUI reports that EAF/EAF+ is running, but at the same time I'm under the impression that the performance of FireFox is improved. Is there any way (other than the GUI) to verify wh... Read more

This started last friday and another Tech ran chkdsk and the user was able to print a few times before they left at end of day, not able to print today. I ran the chkdsk but no luck.

The print spooler service will not start, when forced the popup shows.

I have removed and replaced spoolsv.exe with no luck.

Hi There

I have been given a friends computer to fix. The way he described it, it sounded like it was full of Malware etc, however I haven't been able to start it up as I get the following message appearing when I power it up.

userinit.exe - Application Error The Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click ok...

This message appears twice, I then get the wallpaper of the computer up, but nothing else, no icons or task bar. I have tried a wee trip to safe mode but don't get anywhere from that either, just the same message.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Cheers

The application failed to initialize (0xc0000005). came up. I went through the prompts of ending it...then 20 mins or so later windows finely loaded but the start menu was gone....at first the whole desktop was just the blue screen but my patients in letting it load I finely had icons but still no start menu...I found that someone had removed nortan...so there is no anti-virus on it....well I tried to load AVG on a CD that I burned off my PC and load it...along with Spy-bot, ad-aware SE, and a few other programs to see if I could get some of the tried but true to repair any virus, malware and such off. Well to no avail did any of the programs load...so I had noticed that when I tried going into user accounts to see if this account had admin. privileges the user accounts never loaded. Doing some investigating I found on Microsoft that I could make another account with admin privileges and that it should load....NOPE....I got the account created but when I tried to log into it no windows just a blank screen...Ctrl.Alt.Delete. brings up the task manager on network I see that it says that the INTERNET is run... A:Services.exe - Application Error. The Application Failed To Initialize (0xc0000005).

Well...it seems to me (I may be misreading) but that system belonged to a unnamed 3d party, which had the operating license.

If I had found such system, the first thing I would have done is wipe it clean (because I don't like using someone else's data which they've decided to trash) and to give myself a good start at seeing if the system worked properly.

Then I would have done a clean install.

That's the only way that I know how to go from a series of unknowns...to a known good, working system.

Worst case scenario: The system is highly infected.

Best case scenario: The system has O/S or malware problems or a combination thereof.

OK, this is admittedly a strange one...

I have used an old (probably a 16-bit) application as my time synchronizer this I've used for quite some time. Its name is TimeRC, and is a great synchronizer as it tracks moon phases along with the time (from selectable, multiple potential time servers). After a fatal software crash a couple of weeks ago, I'm in the process of recovery. Attempts to manually launch the EXE, result in a launch-time error stating that the ap is not compatible with my Windows 7 Pro (SP1). Note that I'm running on the same level of Windows that I was using prior to the crash/re-install. I have inhibited compatibility checking (Group Policy adjustment) only to incur the Win32 error.

I've been through the litany of utilities (registry) to correct this situation, and I KNOW that this ap runs just fine on Windows 7 (from pre-crash days). I am at my wits end trying to avoid this situation. I suspect that there is a registry setting difference (now versus pre-crash) about which I'm ignorant, so I'm open to any, and all suggestions.

To use an alternative time synchronizer is not an option...I'm anal about how my system looks, feels, and performs!! I've even tried running in XP mode (virtual machine) to no palatable result. Note that I don't have access to the program's source code, otherwise I could recompile!

There's got to be something that I'm missing.

Color me frustrated,
Randy Reist (Lairbear)

Hi All,

I recently purchased a new laptop and I have had this error occur almost since the start.

Basically, when I switch on my laptop, both bttray.exe and GrooveMonitor display the exact same error(bar the application name in the title) - I have also tried to install AVG Free which comes up with the same error when trying to start.

The error is:

BTTray.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc150004). Click OK to terminate the application.

I am running Microsoft? Windows Vista? Ultimate 6.0.6001.1.1252.44.1033.18.3066.1940

I haven't tried anything to correct this as I wouldn't know where to start.
Any help anyone can provide would be highly appreciated,

Thank you in advance,

Joe

I'm getting consistent/regular application errors involving "svchost.exe_SysMain" failures. A typical event message looks like the following:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Faulting application svchost.exe_SysMain, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x47919291, faulting module sysmain.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791adbd, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000000000027bc4, process id 0x9b0, application start time 0x01c9c9b411570516.

This is followed (in the event log) by a cascade of errors from the "Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider" such as the following:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The ReadyBoost service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

The cascade of service/driver errors occurs within 3 to 6 seconds of the initial svchost.exe_SysMain failure and hits a dozen or so other services including but not limited to ...

I've had an ongoing problem with application errors that say the following:

<app name.exe> - Application Error
The instruction at "0x036...." referenced memory at "0x00000ba0". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

I've run HJT before and others couldn't find anything. I've significantly cleaned up my PC, currently uninstalled about 4-5 different spyware/adware programs (at the instruction of a MS tech support person who's trying to help me integrate SP2 back into my c:/ with no luck ). But, someone on the XP forum suggested I run HJT again and copy the log so here it is. If anyone has any other ideas I'm open to listening. I get this error message when exiting out of almost every application or browser I have. Can't seem to figure this one out. Thanks!

cmd.exe application error - application was unable to start correctly (0x0000142). Click ok to close the application

Anyone know why it happened?

I got this error when I tried to restart to install an update. However, in windows update, it showed I had nothing to update. There was the little yellow shield by the shut down button to indicate it was installing an update when I would shutdown.

I rebooted fine, and CMD works fine. Is it possible windows thought it had to install something, and the installer had already installed the update (I went onto windows update earlier myself to install the windows and silverlight updates) and it bugged because maybe it had to use cmd to execute the update or something?

A:cmd.exe application error - application was unable to start correctly

It seems to be happening again, but only when I shutdown when explorer is open. I tried and tested his multiple times. It has only happened after the new silverlight update and kb 30247777 (sorry if the number is wrong) update.

What is causing this?

When I start up my comp, everything is fine until I reach the XP welcome screen. At this point the 'userinit.exe - user application error' message box appears twice. after clicking ok, windows continues to load but when it gets to the desktop nothing shows up. I can make desktop show up by going into WTM and going to file>new task(run)..., but as soon it loads i get multiple message boxes of 'rundll32.exe - application error'. I get similar messages when I try to run notepad, system restore, and when I double click on the icon to safely remove hardware.

I don't want to reformat my comp again, I've tried running sfc /scannow and its done nothing, tried reinstalling XP but for some reason its missing a file. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, all,
In looking at my error logs, there have been occasional errors with Word. But just recently, they have become quite a pattern. I'm not a techie and don't know if this error entry tells us details to center in on exactly what the problem is. But I am copying it below for your perusal. I am running Home Vista & Office Home & Student 2007. After I installed an update to my HP OfficeJet All-in-One I started getting frequent messages that Word had failed & Microsoft was searching for solutions to the problem. It always repairs & Word returns for continued use, but something is clearly wrong. I saw a discussion on Bleeping Computer that lead me to think that Office & my HP printer might be conflicting. But so far as I am aware the updates for both the Office & HP are the newest versions. I think Microsoft is completely updated. Can you help me correct whatever this is all about ? I am very unclear about what is happening & don't know what to do.
Thanks, dreamcatcherco

A:Application Error--faulting Application Winword.exe

Microsoft Word crashed because of this module: hpz3r4x6.dllThe references that I was able to find for this file suggest that its:1) an OEM driver file, and2) a Unified UI/Render plug-inWhich doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot to me, but I've got a guess or two about.Since the filename starts with HP and you've recently installed an HP OfficeJet...did you install it from the drivers on the disk, or did you download the drivers from HP? If you installed from the disk, did the disk (or the setup program) specify that the drivers were compatible with Windows Vista? Often printers will be marked with a "Works with Windows Vista" sticker - but won't have the Vista drivers on the installation CD/DVD.I would suggest uninstalling the drivers and software for the HP printer, then reboot and test to see if the error has been corrected. If it has, then try getting the Vista drivers from this link: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/suppor...Display=driversand see if that helps.

So recently, I received a blue screen of death. The error was something along the lines of:
page_fault_in_nonpaged_area

When it restarted, windows advised me to perform a system file check. So I left my computer for a bit, and when I came back it was already at the logon screen. However, when I logged on and started firefox, first thing I noticed was that all my bookmarks and some extensions had been wiped.
I then tried to start Microsoft Word but I received the following error:

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect";

I receive that error for most of my other programs.

When I tried to run event viewer, it says:

"MMC could not create the snap-in"

Please help. Is it possible to restore my applications without reinstalling them all?

Hi. I have no more ideas on what to try next. Any help greatly appreciated. My laptop is running Windows 7 Professional 32bit and is fully patched. The Ethernet adapter (Marvell Yukon 88E8055) is enabled and the wireless adapter (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG) disabled (via software and the hardware switch). Symantec Endpoint Protection provides AV/security (via group policy). It is highly likely the problem was self inflicted and not caused by a virus / malware.I use the cisco VPN client and wanted to upgrade it (a reinstall may have been sufficient but as I was going to the bother I thought I would upgrade) as I was having some annoying timeouts when using the client immediately after logging into my desktop.I started by removing the existing (old version 5.0.05.0290). During the removal the screen went black and the laptop was not responding; ie I couldnt get the screen to wake up. I ended up powering off by holding the power button for 5 secs. On reboot, it appeared that the old vpnclient (5.0.05.0290) had been removed and everything else was functioning as normal. So I tried to install the new version (5.0.07.0410).The vpn setup program gets as far as "Installing Network Components" and produces error "Error 27854. The network configuration lock is held by another application. Close all applications and run Setup again. So, I had the same problem as above. I had developed a dll using Qt that worked fine on my machine but would not register on another. The familiar "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect..." appears when I ran the depencency walker on the dll.

So this was the solution that worked for me, which may help some others see what's going wrong here:

Within my dll the manifest emedded read:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0">
<dependency>
<dependentAssembly>
<assemblyIdentity type="win32" name="Microsoft.VC80.DebugCRT" version="8.0.50608.0" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b"></assemblyIdentity>
</dependentAssembly>
</dependency>
</assembly>

It seemed that the assembly definition was not found upon my client computer. So then, from within my original computer's 'Windows\WinSxS' directory, I copied the 'x86_Microsoft.VC80.DebugCRT_1f...' directory and it's associated files within the 'Policies' and 'Manifests' directories onto the client computer. Once copied, the dll registrered fine.

Hope this helps...

Having updated to Windows 10, this message constantly appears when starting my Notebook. I have read other threads regarding the 3D Driveguard, my notebook is HP ProtectSmart....is this then the same theory? Power up is slow, internet connection crashes all the time....I am so over it. This is the 2nd time I have upgraded to Windows 10, I reverted back to Windows 8.1 after all the initial glitches and am now seriously considering reverting back again. Is there a solution in the first instance to repair the Error Message?

Dear Zaelene, I assume the problem is the driver software, it isn't compatible with your notebook. You can download compatible driver by searching it on google or HP sites.

I'm on ADSL Zoom X3 modem connected to my PC with No other Router connected

when I used a bittorrent for the 1st time (Azureus), I got NAT error problems, this happened to everything I tried.
It tells me I have no remote access & icons stay on yellow?
I checked all the wizard configurations & whatnot, they all told me I have a NAT error

I just want to know if theres anything I can do? because when I switched to my AOL 56k connection, the NAT error was not present there
SO is my NAT messed up or not set up correctly???

I don't have a router so I can't open any ports only on it,
I'm only with my DSL modem, so I went to my DSL setup page

I went to the NAT CONFIGURATION OPTIONS
the screen had this info:

NAT : Enable
Mode: Dynamic

Session: blank (no other options listed but can be typed on)
User IP: blank (no other options listed but can be typed on)
Action: add (& another option for delete)

Number | Session | Name | User IP
# of NAT configurations: 0
I tried switching to disable NAT!
the description makes it seem like hackers can get to my IP & whatnot without it, but I tried anyways, BUT I could not connect to the net anymore after that, I had to re-enable it.

All I know on on Azureus is that in options it states 6881 as the incoming TCP listing port.
there is no Session or User IP info there to find & typing 6881 on User IP just tells me it's an inncorrect IP
can anyone help?
anyone with any knowledge of this??
is it poss... Read more

Hello there. I hope I have posted this message in the right area. This morning I fired up my pc to find an error greeting me. It was that windows was missing a configuration file. I rebooted a couple of times then it came back up.

Once it did tho, it went through reloading all my hardware. Everything was fine so I thought. I then realized there was no sound. Xp is showing the Realtek onboard sound card there, indicating under Audio Devices, Properties that "This device is working properly" and "Driver is enabled but has not been started". However, under the main Volume tab it shows "No Audio Device".

I have verified under Services that Windows Audio is started and running (set to 'Automatic'). I have attempted to remove and resintall the device, tried alternate drivers, all to no avail. Any suggestions or recommendations on how to proceed would be so greatly appreciated!

The actual issue is that this error comes up as soon as I log into windows and either freezes me straight away or resterts.

Hello everyone,
I recently had a virus on my Windows xp computer (one of those ones that pretends to be an anti-virus program telling you your computer is infected). Before I had the chance to remove it I found I was unable to start up my computer. Instead of the usual user login screen I had a black screen with this message:

"lsass.exe - Application Error". The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on ok to terminate the application

Once I click okay nothing happens, the screen just remains blank. I have tried going into safe mode (F8 key) but it doesn?t seem to work. I hold the button down but the computer just loads up like normal and goes onto the dreaded black screen.

I have done some quick research and found that the problem is either the OS is broken, or a virus is pretending the OS is broken. Either way I have no idea what to do.

Any help is much appreciated. Please note however I am pretty clueless when it comes to computers, thus please try to assume as little prior knowledge as is reasonably possible and include simple step by step instructions if you can. I apologise for my ignorance.

If you need any further information let me know. Note as I have no laptop currently I will have to wait until I am in work to respond.

Thanks in advance!

Upon restart, the loading Windows XP black load screen that shows up right after power returns froze and a window came up saying system configuration error. I would LOVE to avoid waiting on the phone please help !~~!! please..My only solution i could think of was using the system restore disk but i do not even know if the boot up goes far enough for the PC to read the disk. Please help and thank you for your time.

A:System Configuration Error and no Boot up :(

Hi and welcome. See if you can start in safe mode. For a system this old, I doubt you'll get anywhere calling the number in the computer manual anyway.

A:0662 Configuration Change Error

I work on several of these. Really bad design. Very crowded, no air circulation (heat) and underpowered (poor voltage=hard drive errors, system file corruption, etc...)
I assume you've tried this procedure:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...F06-D0212.html

If the settings do not "stick" I would do the following:

Reseat the RAM.
Remove CMOS battery, clear CMOS (test battery while it's out. If it's low, replace it.)
Try disconnecting all peripherals (hard drive and optical drive) and see if the problem changes or stays the same.
If you can't get the symptom to change at all, I'd try reflashing the BIOS as a last resort. The motherboard might be bad. Might be power supply. Those power supplies cost more than the whole box is worth. Is this your machine?

Hey. Not sure where to post this problem so I just decided to put it in with games. I use a program called DAEMON to use virtual disk drives. Wierd thing is that the first two drives do not have a letter assoicated with them (E:, F and it won't save any changes I make on the main configuration options screen that sets a letter. They've worked before, but I just noticed now that they were gone. Any solution to this baffling mystery?

Have you tried setting the number of drives to zero and then back to two?

couple of times faced with the Illustrator crash and failure to start. Configuration error "Error 3". While trying to fix, found that somewhere lost file "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD\pcd.db" (I am talking about Win XP). Tried to clean a temp folder, but this did not help. Scanned for viruses, all clean, as said antivirus. Reinstalling did not help in the matter too. I know i lose sight of something important and i need an advice.

howdy and welcome.

I do NOT use Adobe Illustrator, but there are tons of people here who do. One thing I dug up in my digging was https://forums.adobe.com/thread/988381; have you taken a look there yet?

I recently booted up my Gateway notebook only to find the "blue screen of death"

I rebooted and it came up to a windows boot manager screen which says windows failed to start..insert installation disc and click repair to fix...blah blah...i'm sure you know the story...

My question is, I booted the Vista disc and when I click repair it doesn't even find the C: drive...when I try and run the BCD fix from the command prompt screen, it says it found 0 Windows installations...would this indicate a faulty hard drive?? If so, I dont mind replacing the drive, I just wanna make sure this is the issue before I spend the money to replace it...

Much thanks for any help anyone can offer!

A:Boot Configuration Data Error

I'm not sure what BCD fix you tried, but see if it is this one and if not, try this one.

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps: (you need a Vista Installation Disk to do this)

1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when you are prompted.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

Note If rebuilding the BCD does not resolve the startup issue, you can export and delete the BCD, and then run this option again. By doing this, you make sure that the BCD is completely rebuilt. To do this, type the following commands at the Windows RE command prompt:
 bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
 c:
 cd boot
 attrib bcd -s -h -r
 ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd

See if that works.

If you don't have the disk (or that didn't work), try EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 and see if that helps resolve the problem.

If that doesn't work, you probably have some type of hardware problem - but it's hard to tell. It may be as simple as the hard drive cable got disconnected a... Read more

I have previously been able to print an email in Windows Live Mail. I can print Internet pages and saved documents. Brother Printer support suggested I have a configuration error.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

A:I have a configuration error that is preventing me from printing.

If you can still print from other applications but not Live Mail then it sounds like something's wrong with Live Mail accessing the printer. Maybe a re-installation of Live Mail is necessary.
My guess is if you provide more info on what exactly it is that keeps you from printing you'll get more feedback here.
Is there an error message? Or any other info to go by?
A print option dialog screen with a number of installed printers etc?

I have a laptop that on my wireless school network would connect fine and automatically. The network is a guest network so it is unsecured. I recently had to reinstall the operating system on my laptop to fix several access rights errors and others (reinstalled Vista). After the reinstall I am having a lot of trouble accessing the internet on the school network. The network and sharing chart will occasionally show that I'm connected to the public network and it will also go all the way through to internet access but my pages wont load and I don't have connection (I use google chrome as my browser but thats not the issue).

I've tried:

-Pinging common websites, it comes back and tells me that I have entered the name wrong which is odd.
-Restarting my computer
-Restarting my laptops wireless adapter
-Checked wireless connections at my house and at other network in my computer engineering class, all of which give me full access to the internet.
-Check DNS information I get a DNS error from doing a diagnosis(this I may not have done right so more information would be great). The diagnosis says I can't connect to www.microsoft.com common dns server
-When it says I have internet and I go to a page I get a error about not being able to resolve the server
-Disabling DNS prefetching
-My own IP is pingable which is normal.
Hopefully I can get this fixed soon because several of my classes are online classes at school which will end up forcing me to do a bunch of ... Read more

You really shouldn't duplicate post, if not for the integrity of the forum, then so that everyone knows what you are being told and you will not be pulled down two or more pathways to a fix, yano. but no foul, no harm, just acting on your behalf (and SF's)

I have a COMPAQ laptop,Windows XP Home Edition
Each time I start up my computer, the following message shows up:

"You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way Windows starts. The System Configuration Utility is currently in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the utility to run every time Windows starts. Choose the Normal Startup mode on the general tab to start Windows normally and undo the changes you made using the System Configuration Utility."

I have already checked the "Normal Startup" box but after restarting, the message pops up again.
I can't even connect to the internet, and my anti-virus doesn't detect anything bad. HELP PLEASE!!
