something downloaded that says I'm infected

Q: something downloaded that says I'm infected

Got a Skype call telling me Skype had found a problem with my computer and I needed to go to a website for more info (supposedly from Skype) -stupidly, I went to the website and was immediately infected with what I think is probably malware.
Neither Malwarebytes nor Avast! can find anything, but this warning keeps cropping up that I can't get out of unless I get out of my web browser.
I am a total beginner when it comes to the internal workings of a computer, so if anyone can help, please use basic English, not techspeak or I'm lost
Thanks Lynne

My son borrowed my laptop and downloaded something like bitlord or bit torrent.  I did all my initial scans, like malwarebytes and run my antivirus, along with CC cleaner to clean up my computer and remove the program, but ive had nothing but problems with it since.  Sometimes it wont start up right or take 10+ minutes to start and sometimes it starts with a funny screen and says some services failed to start.  Web pages take forever to load and cant do anything on my computer anymore.  Can someone please help me with this.

Hello BC community, today I was searching for a keyboard macro to use in a game, it was zipped, had no password and was not detected by Eset Nod 32, I am using Windows 7 64 bits but I don't have a installation cd (custom pc). When I opened it, my default browser (Google Chrome) crashed and my computer rebooted. Then my anti virus found cmsetac.dll and ntdtcstp.dll, both were rated as win32/cakl.nag trojan and couldn't be cleaned, I already tried finding them with regedit, regscanner and msconfig but found nothing. I'm scanning my pc with Malware Bytes right now and found 4 objects so far, I'm also running Security Check by Screen317. I was reading some stuff at Virus Radar and I have a log file named "KB8888239.log", according to VR that is where the collected files go before being sent to a remote machine (scary stuff lol). These dlls are also related to mstwain32.exe, there's a folder in Windows folder called twain_32 and a dll file called twain_32.dll, but I don't want to go around deleting stuff. I think that is all the info I can give at the moment, as I'm still scanning with MB. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

boopme sent me here.

I have a Windows 7 laptop.

I don't know what's happening with my laptop. It's been an utter mess for the past month now. I think I might have downloaded an infected .rar file. First I went to the "Am I infected?" forum and boopme tried to help me and then he told me to come here. But before I made this post I tried following the steps in the "it may not be malware" guide. But unfortunately that has not helped.

My laptop has had all kinds of different problems over these last 5 weeks. They seem to keep changing. It will be one problem for a few days and then it will be a different problem for the next few days. Right now my laptop is VERY slow to start and once it finally does, nothing seems to work or if something does work it takes forever. In fact, I have to make this post from a different computer.

I ran Check Disk about 7 or 8 times over these past few weeks and each time I ran it it would find errors and fix them. It would even say "the volume is clean" after it finished. Every time after I ran Check Disk my laptop seemed to run fairly smooth but then the next day it would go right back to a slow grind. If you want I can post the Check Disk results.

I even did a clean boot and my laptop was still slow.

My Windows Update hasn't been working right for the past several months now so I thought that might be the cause of some of these problems so I disabled it in Services.

Also for some reason my System Res... Read more

I am running windows 8.1 and I downloaded a file off the internet. Right after clicking on it it opened up an installer box. It looked like a virus one, so I exited the thing, and CMD opened up and flashed a few times, then firefox quit. I turned off my internet so that nothing else can ahppen, and I went to task manager and killed the process and deleted the file. I uninstalled one piece of software, and cant uninstall the other one (cuponarific) because of the "Please wait until the current program is finished uninstalling" thing. I think I may be infected.

A:I downloaded something from the internet and I may be infected.

If you are having issues while trying to uninstall the Couponarific program, you can use Revo Uninstaller to completely remove this unwanted program from your machine.

You should follow up with scans using the programs below as so often other adware and malware is on the computer.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here
Double-click mbam-setup-2.X.X.XXXX.exe to install the application (X's are the current version number).
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
Once MBAM opens, when it says Your databases are out of date, click the Fix Now button.
Click the Settings tab at the top, and then in the left column, select Detections and Protections, and if not already checked place a checkmark in the selection box for Scan for rootkits.
Click the Scan tab at the top of the program window, select Threat Scan and click the Scan Now button.
If you receive a message that updates are available, click the Update Now button (the update will be downloaded, installed, and the scan will start).
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
If potential threats are detected, ensure that Quarantine is selected as the Action for all the listed items, and click the Apply Actions button.
While still on the Scan tab, click the link for View detailed log, and in the window that opens click the Export button, select Text file (*.txt), and save the log to your Desktop.

Hello. I have a Windows 7 64bit laptop.

I have a strong suspicion that my laptop may be infected with something. All of a sudden it became really slow doing things and it will just completely freeze up. Like for example , trying to search through my files using Windows Explorer or anytime I try using any of my browsers, especially Firefox. Firefox is super slow even when I open it in safe mode. Then my laptop will freeze up to the point where I end up having to just unplug it to shut it off. It also freezes up even when I don't open a browser.

This all started 5 or 6 days ago. Unfortunately I think I may have downloaded an infected .rar or .zip file. It was a folder of images (or at least that's what it was supposed to be). The reason I think it was suspicious is because it never did finish downloading. Then, the next day after that, I downloaded and installed a definition update for Windows Defender and then immediately after that is when I first started noticing problems with my Firefox and then all the other problems.

I was going to restore my system back to the point before I installed the definition update but then I noticed that my laptop was not saving any restore points. So I tried to fix my pagefile by defragmenting my hard drive.

I ran a boot time scan with Avast but I'm still having the same problems. Here are the results of that scan:

You know Modio, right, the save editor for the 360? Well their usual download place was being really annoying, telling me I was already downloading it; so I (foolishly) looked for it elsewhere. I have the link still if someone knows how to scan files without downloading them.

Anyway, I downloaded it to my desktop, and MSE picked it up right away and asked to quarantine and remove it. I read up a bit on it before, though.

I think the name of the virus was Trojan.PWS.Banker.(a few numbers). It said it might be some sort of key-logger.

So ever since then I've been running dozens of different scans in safe mode (with networking, although I only plug in the Ethernet cable to download the tools.)

I haven't found much of anything, but Kaspersky (which took 26 hours for some reason) found 32 "vulnerable" applications. Didn't even offer to fix them though, so yeah, day well wasted.

I know you can never really know for sure if your computer is infected, but I just don't trust it now.

I would like to save my files, though.

So if nothing else comes up during whatever other scans you guys know of, I think I'll just backup, wipe and reinstall.

A:Downloaded infected zip, kind of worried now

Hi All. Downloaded combogfix from a link here on this server. After running, CA website spyware shows that I now mysteriously have Kaza and BitFrost on my comptuter! I was able to run a Mcaffee Spyware scan, and delete them. Now CA (I know, 2 different software vendors), shows I clean.

Didn't want to believe it, so ran it on another laptop.... and Presto AFTER RUN SHOWING KAZA and BITFROST installed on the machine.

So my question is, is Combofix itself infected and carrying trojoans Kaza and BitFrost in it!!!!
I'd really like to know. Thanks!

A:Downloaded Combofix From Bleeping Now Infected!

Please note the message text in blue at the top of this forum. You should not be using Combofix unless instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert. It is a powerful tool intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert", NOT for private use. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer.Combofix is not malware. It is a highly specialized fix tool. However, some of its embedded files may at times be detected by some anti-virus/anti-malware scanners as a "RiskTool", "Hacking tool", "Potentially unwanted tool", or even "malware (virus/trojan)" when that is not the case. CA website spyware shows that I now mysteriously have Kaza and BitFrost on my comptuter!Did the scan provide a specific file name associated with this malware threat and if so, where is it located (full file path) at on your system?

Hi,
I downloaded an ebook from a website which turned out to be fake. I downloaded it as a compressed folder, and then extracted the files, which generated a PDF file, an EPUB file, and a .txt. I tried to open the files but was unable to, and then realised that I must have downloaded a fake.
I ran full scans with avast, malwarebytes, adwcleaner, and hitman pro which didn't detect any infections, but I'm worried that something may be lurking in the background as the website I downloaded the ebook from is apparently only two weeks old.
I'm using Windows 7 Home Edition.
If anybody could help me with this I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you.

A:Downloaded a fake ebook - not sure if I'm infected

If you returned clean scans from all those apps I wouldn't be too worried. Those are all good reputable programs.

I tried to download a WinRAR program using the google search bar.
The first link (actually an ad, but I was not being careful enough) was
WinRAR Free Download (from software-watcher.com)
winrar.software-watcher.com
I thought it was "legit" so clicked the download. I then started the installation but suddenly realized the file icon looked "unfamiliar". I stopped the installation half-way and cancelled it (I was prompted with "the installation is not complete" and asked if I really want to cancel it).

I went back to google search and saw the legitimate WinRAR from www.rarlab.com.

Google search suggests software-watcher.com sends out adwares through free downloaded programs (?not confirmed).

I've since deleted the "WinRAR" from software-watcher but am not sure if any adware has been installed and activated. As the program was installed in a company's computer (and I am NOT the administrator), I do not know if the computer is equipped with anti-adware programs.

Before I ask our IT guys to check the computer, I am soliciting input from experts on this forum.

Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

A:downloaded a file (exe) but did not(?) open it - would i still be infected?

Confirmed Now !!!
Sweet IM, Program and Toolbar and chances of other unwanted adware programs, will be downloaded from software-watcher.com.
They do mention it on their site, if you take the time to read the fine print, regardless of what you do with downloaded programs.
These programs stay installed even if you delete all downloaded programs ..........

I would run these 2 programs first -

Downloaded an Active-X control, at youporn.com, i've picked up a Zlob Trojan. I also picked up the SecureExpertCleaner rogue ant-virus, and all the pop-ups, for good measure. I've run multiple virus/spyware scanners in safe mode including Spybot, Malwarebytes, Ad-Aware, CounterSpy. Although I seem to have removed SecureExpertCleaner, i still have a more serious infection that has rendered my computer unusable. Basically, my computer starts up fine but when you try to open/close any program, open IE, do anything, it hangs and nothing happens. I use Windows XP SP3 and I have Panda Antivirus Global Protection 2009. Yesterday I downloaded a file on torrents and it turns out that it was infected with adware. I tried removing it myself using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Spybot - Search & Destroy but when I try to run the programs the processes start but the programs don't come up, this happens in safe mode aswell. I also ran a scan with Panda thinking its adware database might find something but sadly it didn't.

In Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox if I search on google and click on any links or if I try going to specific sites like Spybot's site I end up getting redirected to pages showing either random ads or other pages or one constantly reoccuring ad for Stopzilla. Also not sure if this is related but since I got this my computer has totally locked up explorer.exe and all 3 times in one day causing me to have to reboot every time.

Usually when I get crap like this I just slave over my computer on Google until I get rid of it which I usually do but this time I figured i'd seek out some help and save me a few days on Google. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Dear Staff Member,

Please help, I think I have become badly infected.

I wanted to save a video from youtube that is up only temporarily and I went onto decide to download some software to be able to download the video and then convert it.

I first went to this site: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001002.htm  And then I clicked on savevid.com

So I went here: http://www.savevid.com/#  And this is how I downloaded the video to my computer.

Then in the first link above, it also asked me to download a video converter and I clicked and downloaded this one: http://vixy.net/

And then, when I was downloading the converter, it also asked me to download a whole bunch of stuff I have already deleted, like Norton antivirus, Smart Cleaner and Driver Genius.  But somehow, when everything was downloading, a toolbar called ASK installed in my browser and now my browser will not start as I always started it, which was by either clicking MSN or by clicking the icon I had on my desktop.  The browser (which by the way is IE - although I do not know what version) does start but it freezes.  But if I go through Start and then onto my programas and start it from there, it works.

I tried uninstalling the ASK toolbar, which is what I think is causing the problem with IExplorer, it would not allow me to uninstall.  It asked me to quit IE, which I was not running, and then hit a 'retry' button, but still will ... Read more

Thank you very much.

Last night around 7:00 PM EST, I went to download something, and when I hit open, nothing happened. About a minute later, a new icon showed up in the lower right hand corner of my computer where the icons and time are. It was starting a scan, and I'm not totally clueless on the whole virus thing, so I hit no, but it kept prompting me, and by then I already knew it was too late. I hit control+alt+delete and tried opening the task manager so I could close it out, but everytime I would hit it, it would show up with the same pop-up. The virus was cancelling out my task manager, and I also have McAfee and it was not letting me run a scan right there and then. After about 5 minutes, it disappeared, but I already closed out of all my programs that were up because I got scared of infecting anything. I thought that it was going to be like my last virus where I had Malware, Spyware, and Addware, but so far, there has been no pop-ups etc. since this thing happened. However, my internet explorer 8 no longer works, so I am currently typing from Mozilla Firefox. Whenever I open IE8, the message shows up on the Homepage "Internet Explorer Cannot display this webpage. What you can try: Diagnose Connection Problems." When I hit that button, it said something about I needed a proxy server, but I'm very sure that that's not what's wrong.

I'd also like to add that when this was happening, a bunch of internet webpages started popping up, which include:

Too many things going on to be specific in the title so here goes...

This all started yesterday from such a silly thing. I was looking to download a very old strategy game that I played about 15 years ago called "Total Annihilation." I tried downloading from 10 or more different sites none of which ended up working except the demo. I was well aware that one of them may end up having a virus but I figured Avast + Malware Bytes would take care of it if it did. Finally I came across one that was just a single .exe file and nothing else. I opened it and Avast starting spamming the "THREAT HAS BEEN DETECTED!" warning. I could tell the .exe was doing a bunch of stuff invisibly at first because the hourglass next to my cursor kept flickering for a while. I instantly ran an Avast scan and while that was going a bunch of weird stuff began happening. For example, a new weird browser appeared that opened with all my tabs I already had open in chrome and the icon of this browser looked like a warped version of the chrome icon. It was called "MyBrowser." At the same time it redirected me to some webpages - I don't remember what they were. All the while my computer had a strange "laggy" feeling to it because of whatever this thing was doing constantly. The Avast scan (full scan) finished and found NOTHING. Somehow this completely evades detection outside of the original warning when I opened the .exe file. I opened task manager and saw a bunch of different things running that were n... Read more

I downloaded the Acrobat.DC.15.017.exe file from https://torrentz.eu/e33e613e5a98b2484087ead40f4c188747cdaaa0 which is huge. It looked OK, but I just couldn't find anything meaningful inside using 7-zip browser, which is weird. Anyway, I took the risk to run that file, then I was infected.

By default, this file tried to extract the actual contents (yes, the real portable version of acrobat DC that really works) to C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\, but it also provided a prompt so I can extract the real contents to other folder, and I did that. However, after the extraction, I found that there was a "System.exe" file in the %Temp% and this file was running! I was scared and realized that I was infected, so I launched Process Hacker and tried to kill this process. But once I did that, EVERY other process triggered another process "WindowsDefender.exe" and my computer almost froze. After a while, the "System.exe" and all the ~80 "WindowsDefender.exe" processes created by other processes disappeared, but there is one "WindowsDefender.exe" left there. This file was in C:\ProgramData\850395\WindowsDefender.exe. I tried to kill this process again, but again, every other process launched one instance of this "WindowsDefender.exe" and all these disappeared after freezing for a while, but the original "WindowsDefender.exe" was still alive. system running : windows XP professional with sp3

okay, as the title implies, while surfing the internet a tab appeared in the firefox window that said "Updating..." but never showed/displayed anything. After that, I noticed the windows start/tool bar had changed from the XP theme version to the classic version. Then i noticed that there was no network connectivity. When I tried to look up what was wrong, the properties, rename, and delete options have been disabled from the right-click menu.
I received a message that there was attempt to update registry but whatever was done was restored, then my PC reboot.
what I've done so far:
I tried to boot using the windows xp CD but nothing happens. Windows eventually boots up, but I don't get any options to run repair or anything.
Used CA anti-virus for scan and found nothing (did this again in safe mode and still found nothing)
I did a search to see if I could find what was modified, it shows that all user accounts including a Helpassist?? account have been updated in some form or fashion so i don't know what else to do

I see svchost.exe, services.exe, and system taking up 50% of CPU occasionally but not sure what to make of that.

to get the internet started I tried to turn on some network services but all failed due to 'timeout'

Please let me know any ideas, or how to get started on trying to fix this problem.

thanks,
homero

Even when I am not using any brower, email or any opther application, I notice that my lights on my modem are blinking quite fast... that is something is being downloded. It has been going on for quite sometime.

How do I find out what is being downloded (or uploaded)?

I use

MS office 2010
Internet secuirity (antivirus, etc ...) from Bell
Thank you very much

A:How do I know what is being downloaded?

And you have no browser open? And check for new email only infrequently?

You could try disconnecting from the modem and see if any program complains.

In Network Connections right click on your connection and select Status. Watch the Bytes sent and received to get an idea of the upload vs download and how much.

so i came to you guys and I have followed all your steps... My wallpaper is back and I think I have gotten rid of most stuf, but my computer is still running kind of weird, slow, just not the same....

I have ran Adaware SE Personal, Spybot, Notron Anti-Virus, Kapersky Online Scanner, CWShredder, and Spyware Blaster... Please see if something else is on there...

Thanks Guys!!!!

A:Think I Downloaded Something, Help

Hello and welcome to BleepingComputer I don't see any malware there. Some points:Do you have a bought license for Norton? Or did you get it for free? The reason I'm asking is, it's a really heavy app for an antivirus. You can install a better antivirus that's waaaay lighter and easier for the computer, and takes less ram and actually is more efficient too.So, I recommend uninstalling Symantec's products and installing AntiVir (That's the promotion license for AntiVir Premium -- 6 months for free. You can get their free edition here) or Avast! instead.Another valid point: when did you install Service Pack 3? There has been several flaws with it.. Some people have really bad problems with SP3, I seem to be one of the lucky ones with no issues. Did you notice the problems after installing it?Also have a read through THIS TOPIC.Finally.....Click Start >> Run and paste in:"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daftClick OK.Click OK to the prompt from Deckard's System Scanner.Click Scan.Checkmark every entry found.Click Fix.Let me know how you get on.

Hello. I downloaded the new sp3 update yesterday and followed all the instructions and i was ready to restart my computer. When i did, everything went fine until after the loading screen it gave me a blue error screen. Since i needed the computer in working order, I used a pc recovery tool (pressed F10 when it started up) and did a non-destructive recovery which took about 20 minutes. Then after that was done i had to restart and do the windows first start up thing. Then i finally finished and saw that all of my custom features and files were no where to be found! All my applications and games that i downloaded are still in shape, but all of the custom features (like background, WMP playlists, Updates) were all gone. so is there any whay which i can restore my old settings? I need to have all my original settings as soon as i can please .

Thanks

A:I really need help, downloaded SP3...

Hi cloud366, it sounds like you have done a repair install. When you pressed F10, did you choose Last Known Good Configuration from the boot menu?

Also, check in C:\Documents and Settings for a duplicate profile. It could be that your original profile has corrupted and Windows built you a new one.

All those type of "custom features" live in your local profile.

alright so i would say i am pretty computer literate at least for 16 you put me in my whole high school i would pry be second best, here is my HJT file i cant find nothing but i can tell you my problem the quick launch bar is messed up i open it an nothing is there it opens but just lines come and regedit says its in use by another program and task manager wont open

View attachment 32453

A:Downloaded something bad help please

Clear these three items in HJT and rescan:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3745D43B-4A84-485D-8EE9-BC6D0401DBF6} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtUkIBqR.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4F96CCB9-01EC-419E-AAEA-C2C913F2A236} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\byXRkIYS.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: byXRkIYS - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\byXRkIYS.dll

If they are still present, then download MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and while you are there grab the RogueRemoverFree as well. FileASSASSIN is under More Tools in Anti-Malware, and can actually delete the files while in use. Run that if the files wont delete or keep showing up in HJT. Make sure you update MalwareBytes before you do a full scan

32bit will only see 4gigs of ram and usually only be able to use abt 3.3 its also a bit slower depending on how you use it. when changing from one OS format (32bit) to another (64bit) it has to be a clean install.

Now about restoring you may have a backup there and available but since you are 32 bit and it isnt you cant use it. If you were to reinstall vista 64 it probably be available

Hi,This isn't an emergency, however I torrented Adobe Photoshop CS3* and now most of my desktop icons are the same, except for a few such as Firefox. When I click to open a program, only CS3 opens. Hey,I downloaded AIM+ onto the C drive. The problem is...is that it only works on my account and my dad's account, but not anyone else's in my family. If I try to open it on another account,an error message comes up saying:AIM+registry settings corrupt, please reinstall to fix the problem.I've reinstalled it, but the same thing happens.Any reason why it doesn't work on all of the accounts?any help would be fine.thanks

A:downloaded AIM+ onto the C drive

Usually reinstalling does not help. One suggestion was to copy the AIM+ values from the registry to the new account's registry file, since it's already installed.

Log onto the account that works.
Next go to Start, Run, type in "regedit" amd click OK.
Next expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER :: Software and highlight "Big-O" go to file :: export and save it as big-o.reg in a place thats easy to remember (like C:/Program Files/AIM+).
Now log off, and log into the account which gives you the error.
Use explorer to find the .reg file you made.
Double click on it and append it to the registry.

Hi,

My son downloaded a malware software presented as a virus removal. It infected the computer and ask us to buy the software so it can be removed.

I cannot install anything because it reboots explorer on an ongoing basis. Tried to run AVG but it's very very very slow...for some reason it allowed me to open it!

Please help! No computer geek..

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I want to use windows 7 which is already dowloaded on a pc (with product key) to use for my Macbook Pro, but it says this when on the Microsoft website "ErrorThe product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options." ? Can anyone help please?

A:Using already downloaded Windows 7(currently on a PC) to use...

Hi: What you want to do would violate the Microsoft Windows licensing terms, so no one here will be able to help you with that. The product key you entered is an OEM product key.  You need a full retail version of a windows product key in order to download the Windows 7 software. OEM versions of Windows cannot be transferred or used on another PC. Please see the Microsoft OEM licencing terms regarding use of Windows OEM software. http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/licensing/sblicensing/Pages/licensing_faq.aspx#fbid=q7CEbN2yHpJ Q. Can my customers transfer or sell their OEM software licenses? A. After an OEM software license has been installed on a PC, the license may not be installed on or transferred to another PC. However, the entire PC may be transferred to another end user along with the software license rights. When transferring the PC to the new end user, the software media, manuals (if applicable), and Certificate of Authenticity label must be included. It is also advisable to include the original purchase invoice or receipt. The original end user cannot keep any copies of the software. PC manufacturers do not provide OEM Windows software for download. You would have to purchase a set of W7 recovery disks for the PC that has W7 on it, and they will only work on that PC.

Recently - I've been having a strange problem. when I download a photo or image, or even capture a screen shot and save it to a folder, I cannot see it in that folder. I originally thought i had not hit save properly or not saved a file that I thought I had - but when i tried to re download an image or capture it again and name it the same thing - I got a message saying there was already a file by that name in the folder.

I have tried ensuring all hidden files are shown, and refreshed the window to no avail. but when i restart the computer, I am able to see the files in the folder as the should have been displayed all along. also confusing - when i look in the folder after saving...say if I've saved 12 images into the folder from the net or screen capture, but the folder is only displaying 1 image - it was say the folder only contains one image...

how can i fix this so i do not need to reboot every time i want to see newly created images?

A:Can't See Downloaded Files

Sounds like a view issue on the folder itself, to be honest.

Apparently the new things on forums are either Rickrolling or shortly commenting "keylogger" when someone posts a link. Atleast thats the case on the WoW forums and GameFAQs.

Well I clicked one of those links because it claimed to be a cool in-game screenshot. So I clicked the link, the whole "Blizzard is not responsible for links not supported by them" came up and I clicked to continue, then as the site was loading, I went back to the WoW forums and read some of the comments and one was a simple "Keylogger" then someone quoted the link and a conversation entailed about how you should not quote keylogger links, etc. After that, I quickly closed the site before it loaded up, it was still a blank white screen, but it was running for a good 10 seconds. Am I completely screwed over or am I just being overcautious?

So I am now afraid to log into WoW, or anything for that matter. I ran a virus scan using HouseCall (the first link that came up when I Google'd "free virus scan") and it ended up freezing my computer. So should I just blow this off? I'm afraid that if I do, I might wake up to the message "Your password has been changed" when I go to log into WoW tomorrow. Please let me know, and if it is something I should worry about, can you tell me of a good, reliable virus scan site that will get the job done quick and not take like 3 days...

And I'm sorry if I'm an idiot and this is completely dumb and its just some forum ... Read more

I just downgraded from Vista SP2 to Vista SP1 and by doing so, have somehow screwed up my downloads in both Firefox and IE8. Whenever I download in either one, the download results in a file that is 0 kb.

The strange thing is, Google Chrome somehow wasn't affected by this downgrade (if that's what caused this) and I can download files fine in that browser.

Can someone tell me what's going on here and how to fix this in IE8 and FF 3.5? I've already tried reinstalling FF and it didn't help at all.

A:Downloaded Files Are 0 KB

Why did you downgrade form SP2 to SP1? Try reinstalling SP2.

I recently installed Real Player. Since then, when downloading a .mp3 file in Internet Explorer, once the File Download box pops up, the filename is changed to .mpga format. If I just highlight the download link, the file will be named as .mp3. Also, I uninstalled Real Player, and this doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. Any ideas? I don't want to have to keep renaming or converting files every time I download an mp3.. I'm really looking for a solution to the entire problem so that they'll download as mp3's again. Thanks in advance for all your help!

A:Downloaded mp3 to mpga in IE6

Sounds like, when you installed Real Player you did not select [Custom] and check your file associations. Or did not use the Real Player option to always reset file associations if another program changes it.

Actually, before installing any ADDITIONAL player, you should check what files are associated whit your current player or players, and make sure the file association of the new player are not in conflict.

I always uncheck ANY association conflict in a new player, then change them later to the player I want to be default for the file.

According to a Google hit for MPGA, = Mpeg-1 Layer3 Audio Stream and that links to Winamp. Bet you have Winamp installed and it is over-riding the file association for mpg. You need to disassociate mpg from Winamp.

I end up having to restart my computer. I have run adware and spybot but they have been unable to locate it or remove it. I have also searched multiple virus webpages and didnt find anything as well. Can someone please help me and tell me how to remove this annoying thing! Thank you

So I got all nostalgic the other day and decided to download the free version of Command and Conquer. In my haste I found out that the ISO images wouldn't work with Windows 7, but they had a fix which was to download a different file and not use the ISO image. I had already burned it and tried to install off of the disc.

The ISO file is on my desktop which means it's on my SSD... so obviously I want to remove it as it is taking up 600mb's of space. I've tried safe mode, 3rd party programs, ending different tasks... and nothing is working. I searched this site to see if anyone had similar problems and searched for the specific problem of not being able to delete the C&C ISO across google with little success. It may be my weak google-fu, but so far I'm coming up short.

Does anyone have any bright ideas on why this isn't able to be deleted?

The error it gives is that the file is open in System.

A:Cannot Delete a downloaded ISO

I managed to fix my own problem.

The issue was a program that I thought had been deleted, but it had not. Magic Disc version 2.7 was used when I couldn't get the C&C burned disc to work. I guess other people have had issues when removing Magic Disc, so I had to go through and dig it out of the registry.

MagicDisc... not good! How to uninstall it when it fails. | Practically Quixotic...

That's the guide I used. Once I removed parts of it from the registry it let me uninstall the program and then I was able to delete the ISO file off my desktop.

Hey all,

Sorry I'm new to the forum, hopefully this is the right place to put this.

I've just upgraded my Dell XPS 420 to windows 7-32bit Home Premium from vista and now any time I try and install a program from the internet (even things like iTunes or Firefox) I'm runnig into problems.

Once I've downloaded any set-up file I click on it and the user account asks if I want to allow the program access. Once I click yes it thinks about it for a bit and then nothing happens.

I've tried running them as administrator and in compatability mode. I've also tried unblocking them in the properties and even re-downloading and installing without any user account settings or firewall but nothing works.

I even thought it might be a bad install of Windows so I formatted my hard drive and tried again but still no luck.

Can anyone please help, my computers basically useless right now

Thanks
Nemo

A few days ago I accidently downloaded a virus. I clicked on the download button, instead of the download link. The download button was a virus, when I opened the file, it proceeded to download many unwanted programs to my computer. Some of the symptoms my computer is having are:
-File keeps popping up on my desktop named, "Continue Live Installation"
-That same file opens on its on several times while im on the computer. I Close It and do not continue with the installation
-Almost everything I click on makes ads pop up in new windows.
-Their are ads all over websites that would normally not have ads (ex. Youtube, facebook)
-Computer is generally slower
Those are my problems. Things I have done so far are:
-Immediately uninstalled unwanted programs via control panel
-Ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and got rid of anything it found
-Ran RKill and JRT
-Ran Hitman Pro and got rid of anything it found

After this I am still having all the problems listed above. I hope someone can help me out please!!! This is a work computer and I haven't been able to do any work all week .

A:downloaded fonts help

Sorry, your question is unclear to me.

The systems fonts are stored in a specific font directory, usually C:\WINNT\fonts. Often you can simply *drag & drop* the fonts into that directory and they will be automatically installed on the system and usable by most windows applications. If this fails to work, you could modify one of the MS font installation programmes to install your particular font and make the minor registry changes needed.

What happens if I download and install an application TWICE? I am looking at a vendors suggestion. I am having a problem and the vendor suggests that I download and install WINDOWS LIVE MAIL. I think I have it installed already.
1-how can I tell if I have it already?
2-what would happen if I downloaded it and I already have it?

My OS is Windows 7

A:downloaded and installed TWICE!!

If you already have the software installed, when you run the install program it will probably have the option to "Repair" or "Modify".

Now, if you do download a newer version, there is a possibility you can have them both installed at the same time.

A:cant open anything that is downloaded

Koushal,

I'm afraid that isn't very clear which is probably why you did not receive an answer. But it sounds like one of two things is possibly happening... either the file you have downloaded and are trying to open is being blocked by your anti-virus, or by your firewall. Or if by "open" you mean you are trying to install it, it could be you don't have admin rights to install, so it's a Windows UAC 'shield' you see.

To increase your chances of getting help, I would suggest taking a screenshot of the 'shield' if it sticks long enough, or of the msg you see right before the shield appears.

Hello, I have an HP laptop running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. It's actually been relatively fine for me until the last few days. I was having some problems editing video files and couldn't figure out why, so I updated to service pack 2. Around the same time, although I honestly cannot be sure that it was because of the update, none of my downloads will work. I believe it happened once or twice before I updated my sp but now I can't download ANYTHING. It's bizarre. The entire file will download and the file will show download progress just like normal. But, once complete the file shows up as 0 kb and doesn't open. I've tried using firefox 3.5.3 and IE 8...both do the same thing. I have also checked my permissions and made sure that I am allowed access to all of the folders that the documents are saved in. Nothing seems to help.

I really don't want to have to format/reinstall windows since I have quite a bit of stuff I would need to backup. Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated. Thanks.

now the good part, i close everything up and go back to the map to make sure it will start and play correctly and it is not there, i search for it from the search window at start and search tells me the closet it could find was the same map but on the E drive, which is where the xp hdd is when i boot vista.

I know you are saying he made an error ..... I've seen that dialogue box 1000 times the last 3 months and I know what I clicked on. I don't like Win 8.5 and I'll never trust those people again. I became so angry trying to stop that I damaged the computer (the plastic crap they refer to as a case has no decent access .... it's your computer and access should be easy).
The display is fine but is now upside down ..... does anyone have a fix for this ? 2) How do I get this unwanted crap off my computer (it took me over 4 months to get my event record even close to not looking like a Christmas tree with no help from MS or HP .... I don't want to go thru that BS again ) and restore it back to Win 8.5 ??

A:Win 10 Downloaded w/o Permission

Hello,

It sounds like you didn't uncheck the optional "Upgrade to Windows 10" update before manually selecting to install available updates.

You can use the method in the tutorial below to go back to the previous Windows.

Windows 10 - Go Back to Previous Windows - Windows 10 Forums

Once you are back to Windows 8.1, you can use the tutorials below to disable the "Upgrade to Windows 10" update and GWX icon.

Upgrade to Windows 10 Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 7 or 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums

Get Windows 10 Icon - Remove from Taskbar in Windows 7 and 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums

Hi everyone,
New user to SevenForums.

For the longest time we did not have IE on our HP Smart Touch. We would use Firefox. Well, I needed to get IE 10 installed. I downloaded IE 10 from MS and installed. I made sure the Turn Windows Features On/Off from Control Panel had IE selected. However, after I went through the installation, IE 10 was not available. It is showing as an installed update to Windows but does not show in the Control Panel>Program and Features.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get IE running? or how I can check what may be disabling it?

I do not know how IE was removed and unavailable to begin with.

Thanks for any help.

Alright, so, firstly, I know nothing about computers, but I was on MSN messenger, and got one of those infected "hey, is this you" followed by some sort of link messages, and stupid me, I clicked and accepted. I've been reading forums, but I don't get what to do, I've done some research, and I'm thinking it's a trojan thingy, and a leap virus, because once I downloaded it, I automatically sent it to everyone on my contact list, and an hour later, my computer automatically restarted. So for days now, I've been trying to fix it, and I think I know the file it's in, or at least close (C:/system32 hosts, or smss), the problem is, the Hijackthis scan, skips that folder, probably because the thing controls my computer, and, If I try delete related files, it says that I need permission to do so, yet I'm on the administrative account, so I guess if anyone know's what ever is going on, that would be awesome. Here's my Hijackthis log:

I made the stupid mistake of downloading "trial" version of PCMightyMax that I saw referenced in forums. At the end of the download it told me I had 309 problems but it wouldn't "fix" them without ordering it. Which is ok; however, now I'm getting a constant popup telling me about my numerous problems and the "PC ambulance" is parked on my start bar. I hunted an uninstall (Add/Remove programs) and in Windows Explorer Programs file and it didn't have one so I just "deleted" it out of window explorer programs file. But I still have the popup and the ambulance parked on my desktop. Anyone know how to get rid of this? Did the CWS thing and it says my computer is clean. Here is my HJT file:

As far as the CD-Rom goes.. Try installing a new ASPI layer.. Forceaspi is probably the easiest way to do this.. http://radified.com/ASPI/forceaspi.htm

Check the run statement in you win.ini file in your windows directory for a call to the unwanted program.. I don't see it in your log..

Hello everyone! So, I don't know when this problem started, but probably a few days back. The EXEs I already had on my laptop run perfectly fine, but whenever I download an EXE from the internet, it doesn't do anything. I double-click them, open the task manager, look at the program I ran, and it gets stuck to a specific amount of memory usage (Depending on how heavy the program is), and some seconds later it closes. I can't see it on the task manager. Examples are: "WinRAR Installer", "FIFA 14 (After I installed but the game won't run)", "FiveM installer (A multiplayer client for GTA V)".
I tried one thing and transfered the FiveM installer to another laptop which was new, and it worked! It was installing perfectly on that laptop. So I transfered the installed files back to my laptop, and when I ran the EXE that was installed (Along with a lot of other DLLs and related files that were installed with the program), it had the same problem. It got stuck to a certain amount of memory usage, and closed. Now I'm totally confused, I tried the fix on Microsoft's website (First Automatically, didn't work, then manually, that also didn't work). Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Greetings, Pardeep.

A:Downloaded Executables Won't Run

Try a clean startup - Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup
Try installing in Safe Mode (with or without Networking), you will need to run SafeMSI.exe first when in Safe Mode. Please note that, successful installation depends on which services are needed by the installer. So one can fail and other work.

Still trying to resolve issues with IE8. Looking at downloaded controls I see three instances of Java Plug-in. All installed at the same time when I installed the latest version of Java.

Is this normal? If I remove one (and then two) will it remove all of them? Should I just disable two?

Then looking at "run without permissions" I see even more instances of Java Plug-n.

I do want to keep Java Plug-in but wonder why I have so many of the same?

A:Three of the same downloaded control add-on

Those three seam to be the same. If it was my computer I would remove all Java and get a fresh download of Java. I think this might answer all your questions.

Im fairly sure I have a virus on my laptop. Internet explorer won't load at all but Firefox will. Firefox acts normally until I try to go to a web page that has anything to do with virus software or virus removal, hence having to type this from my iPhone as it won't even let me access this site. As I say, any other sites load as usual. Any ideas?
