Cannot Access Internet after Virus Removal - Netbt.sys, NetBios missing - Error 1075

Q: Cannot Access Internet after Virus Removal - Netbt.sys, NetBios missing - Error 1075

After a Trojan attack, I used Kaspersky Virus Remover to remove them. It seems to have been successful, but now I can't access the internet.

Below are clues to resolving the problem. I just don't know what to do next.

Can you help? I'm using XP sp3.

=================

The following files are present in /Windows/System32/Drivers folder...
* afd.sys
* tcpip.sys
* netbt.sys (It was missing; so I copied to here from ServicePackFiles/i386)

=================

In Device Manager,

* TCP/IP Protocol Driver is running successfully
* NetBios over Tcpip - DOES NOT EXIST

In services when attempting to Start these services

* DHCP Client Properties (Local Computer) and
* TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper

I got these errors...

* Could not start the DHCP Client service on Local Computer
* Could not start the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service on Local Computer
* Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.
* Under the dependencies tab: No Dependencies in either box.

Start, Run, SFC /SCANNOW
It did ask for the XP disc and apparently installed some files.
No joy.

I've run Winsock MicrosoftFixit50203. No joy.

I have a computer where the DHCP service will not start due to a missing dependent service.  I did some digging and found that the NetBT.sys file was missing, as well as the related Registry keys and the NetBIOS over TCP/IP service in Device Manager.
I tried copying the NetBT.sys file over from a known good XP SP3 machine, but before I went any further, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.  Can someone offer some suggestions to fix this without having to reload XP?

Thanks,
Phil

A:NetBT.sys missing, registry entries missing, and NetBIOS over TCP/IP service missing from Device Manager

For what it is worth, I pulled the netbt.sys file from a known good machine and putting it into the %Windows%\system32\drivers folder, then imported the registry keys for NetBT from the same machine.  Rebooted the computer and the "NetBIOS over TCP
IP" driver showed up in Device manager under "Non Plug-and-Play Devices".  It showed that it was started, and verified that the DHCP client server was started as well.  Everything was in good working order at that point.  Here are the registry

Not sure why this problem is persisting. I appear to have all the dependent files. I have run SFC/ scannow to no avail. I cannot start the services in question. The 1075 error message continues. I have attached my system info.

A:Solved: DHCP client and TCPIP Netbios helper 1075 error

I was able to restart DHCP services by deleting the registry entry and rebooting. I went into the registry editor, located the DHCP subkey, right click on dependonservice and clicked on delete.
However TCPIP Netbios helper I could still not start, even after running sfc/scannow.
The solution for me was to restore the operating system to an earlier point in time. In windows xp, go to programs> accessories>disk utilities> system restore and follow the directions. I suppose I could have done that for both problems? At least I didn’t have to reinstall XP!

Anyway I can connect to internet now

Hey Everyone.

Maybe someone could be of help. I have gone through several different forums and have attempted several ways to try to fix this but have had no luck.

I have tried the netsch winsock reset
I have tried the ipconfig /renew
My DNS service starts but my dchp client doesnt want to and gives me the error 1075.
I have removed NAV still nothing.

I have also tried many other alternatives but im just not remembering at the moment and I am just stumped.

Internet works on my other two computers, but my laptop is what seems to not want to connect wirelessly or routed. Something seems to be blocked or missing.

If anyone can please help me in any way possible it would greatly be appreciated. If you need me to provide some more details please let me know.

Thanks
Lewis B.

Hi all

Got a wee bit of a problem (using vista is one of them). Running Vista Home Premium x64. When I first installed it everything was working fine. File sharing, pinging other PC's on my network, everything all good. After about 2 days Netbios refused to work. It is enabled under my network interface properties, shows a disabled when I do a ipconfig /all . Event log shows a 4311 netbt error. Microsoft has nothing on this error.

I decided to give up and reinstall XP (from scratch) again worked fine after a couple of days then Netbios died again. I uninstalled all the Windows updates to see if one of them was causing the issue however this did not fix the problem.

I really don't want to format my PC every few days so if anyone has any idea's at why is happening I will be internally grateful.

Hello,
I have a Windows 7 SP1 laptop which has had a NetBIOS problem for a long time. TCP/IP and DHCP work ok, so both at home (wireless, DHCP) and at work (wired, assigned IP address) I have internet access. I can remote desktop to the machine. I cannot (and don't think I ever have) been able to properly browse to or from the system, though, via \\computer\share format.

After many sessions working on this, I've narrowed it down to NetBT not being properly installed; I think I might just need help wih that. Here's what I know and have discovered:

- The TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service won't start. Error when I try to start it manually is "Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.
-  The only dependency listed for that service is "Ancillary Function Driver For Winsock"
- when I view hidden devices in device manager and look in Non-Pug and Play Drivers, that device is listed as working properly.
huh.
- Event viewer tells me that "The TCP/IP NetBIOS Help service depends [sic] the following service: NetBT. This service might not be installed.
- NetBT.sys was missing from (blah blah)\system32
- elevated command prompt sfc /scannow put the file back
- sc start NetBT  yields FAILED 1060: The specified service does not exist as an installed service.
- net start NetBT yields The service name is invalid.

I believe all I have left is to figure out how to get NetBT reinstalled. I have registry entries for NetBT and NetB... Read more

Hey all -

I'm trying to get my files back to my main PC, which are stored on my backup PC via my network.

The main PC can see other computers on my network.
The backup PC can not see anything.

I can ping everything (router/printers/computers) from each of the two PCs in question.

File sharing is enabled on both PCs. I can not access either one of them from the other either via \\ipaddy or \\name.

When I do a ipconfig \all on the backup PC, here's what I get:

I have been working on removing and repairing damage from a virus and thought that everything was back up and running, until my internet connection stopped working -through my router. I can directly connect through my modem by inserting all of the connection information in TCP/IP properties, but otherwise no access to my router (even a new one). I came across this post:

http://forums.techguy.org/virus-oth...678-cannot-access-internet-after-virus-3.html

Which seems to be the exact problem that I am having. Being new to this forum, it seems I can't ask Cookiegal for the repair file directly, so hopefully someone can help me out on this, one way or another. I understand that I can also run a repair from my xp disk, but if I didn't have to, I'd rather just work with one small file...

Hello. Got a virus. Microsoft Essentials cleaned it, but now my netbt.sys file is not loading. I am on a wired network with a cable modem and a router. I keep getting an error when I check my status saying "Acquiring network address" My DHCP service isn't starting, and can't be started. I get this error: "Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."

I can not see netbt.sys when I use windows search, but I did find it using WinRAR.

Can't just copy/paste and have it work. No internet access due to this. XP Pro SP3.

I have already done this:
TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2 or SP3. Also ran SFC/SCANNOW as directed by Terrynet.

I am trying to extract the file from my cabs. searching with windows produces no results. WinRAR sees it, but then I can't find it to windows System config utility to extract it. my puter info is in my profile.

Any help would be appreciated. Already following a few threads responded to by phantom010 and by cookiegal both in this forum and the networking forum - people with the same netbt problem. This is why I'm hoping you can help!

Thank you!!

Hi guys, I've recently run into an issue that I haven't been able to solve on my own (and Google). So I decided to sign up to ask help from the pro's.

I recently got a virus but eventually removed it (or so I hope) successfully. After rebooting my PC I noticed I wasn't able to connect to the internet. I have an excellent signal but the message reads "Acquiring network address" (clearly it isn't!). Anyhow, after spending countless hours on Google, I noticed that the DHCP service wasn't started, and could not be started. I would go to start and a message would read, "Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion." Upon further research, I noticed that the NetBT file in the system's drivers folder wasn't to be found.

Also, I'm on Windows XP.

If anyone could help me with this problem I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thank you!

The first time I did this, everything seemed to return to normal. Couple of days later, the same virus started up. I redid what I did...and it seemed to work again...until I tried using the internet. (I think Malwarebytes deleted something in the registry?)

There was an error saying that "DHCP error 1075: The dependancy service either does not exist or has been marked for deletion". I googled this on my laptop and followed some of the instructions found online. None of it worked...

I went into device manager->hiddle files->non plug and play drivers:
There was a problem with these with the same code for them: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)
App Filter Plugin
NetMon Filter Plugin
Panda Net Driver [TDI Layer]
VSCore mferkdk

Finally, I have included the last three logs from Malwarebytes showing which files were deleted by the program.

Thank you for looking over this!!

Could someone please tell me what that means 192.168.0.101 was trying to do remotely with my computer?

My ZoneAlarm firewall very very frequently gives me messages that it has blocked traffic to (and from) 192.168.0.101. What/who IS that anyway?(192.168.0.101?)

I did a ZoneWatch back search and that appears to come from Southern California, and does it have to do with assigning or monitoring Domains???? (it said something about domains)

Please tell me what all that is, please?
And should I keep blocking it? (ZoneAlarm never gives me a choice...it just notifies me that it has been blocked.

Please help me with all this???

Hi, so glad I found this forum, hope you can help (THANKS in advance!)

My wireless network connection appears to be working; I can access the Internet from my laptop, iPad, iPhone, but not from the Dell PC that is the 'host' computer. Local Area Connection 2 Status window shows it as working, when I try to repair it, I get hung up with an error msg:

>>"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:
Clearing NetBT
For assistance, contact the person who manages your network." <<

That would be me, and I have no clue what to do. So frustrating. Please help!
I'm afraid I may have changed a setting somewhere that is causing this. Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks, Maggie

My daughter's computer was infected with the Windows Vista Antivirus 2012 malware/virus yesterday. I followed the instructions to remove it as detailed here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-win-7-antispyware-2012 . Removal was (apparently) successful, as no symptoms have reappeared.

Since removing the virus, I have not been able to access the internet through the wireless network or through a wired connection. All other computers on the network work fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have downloaded and run FSS and posted the log below.

Hi,

This past sunday I got one of those viruses that infiltrates your computer when you access a website link trying to watch free online videos of tv shows. I'm usually pretty good at protecting my self but this time around I wasn't so successful.
I got one of those fake antivirus prograsm with alerts and warnings of a bunch of viruses. Once I saw it "scaning my computer" I tunred it off and restarted it in safe mode. Then I ran combo fix to see if it would get rid of it. It did, but something went wrong because now even though I can log in to my Instant messenger, I can't get to any webpage using chrome or internet explorer. My connection Is wireless but i have my own router, I know is not the ISP because I can still access xbox live. So, I'm pretty sure that the virus broke something when being removed that wont allow me to reach the internet even though the AIM works fine. Any thoughts on how I could fix it. I would apreciate it.
Thanks,

Virtualtaker

Good afternoon. I hope someone can help me. I recently ran Avast on an older Dell Latitude laptop. It detected over 100 infected files which I quarantined. One of those files was netbt.sys. I ran Fabar Service Scanner and it verified that the file was missing along with registry keys. I have no restore CD. I don't know where to get the missing file, exactly where to place it even if I did find it, and would not even attempt to touch registry stuff without professional assistance. Right now the computer is stuck in an endless "acquiring network address" loop.

I would really appreciate any help offered.

Thanks in advance.

If the files was simply quarantined do you have the option of restoring it from the quarantine? Do you have access to another XP machine?

I have run Malware Bytes, Superantispyware, TDSSkiller and have found no infections and this machine had Norton 360 on it but it seems non-functional now (no system tray icon).

I get an IP from the router, I can ping the router and other external IP's (yahoo.com) but can not browse to either the IP's or a URL. I followed a MS winsock2 corruption KB (811259) advise and found that 6 entries are not in Msinfo32-components-network-protocol. Those being the MSAFD NetBIOS entries.

I ran Hijack This and it called out missing files under O23: BUT I ran it on a brand new (good) win7 machine and it listed missing files under the same O23: entry. And all the entries listed are in the appropriate folders...go figure.

I'm at a loss where to go after doing the netsh winsock reset
---------------------------------------------------------------
I have run the Norton Removal tool so that is out of the picture.
IE shows "waiting for response" but nothing comes.
Chrome likewise cannot browse.

A:Missing MSAFD Netbios entries

I have been forging ahead and now I don't seem to be able to get an IP from the wired connection anymore but the wireless is working just fine. I only have one wireless router, go figure. Gonna try removing the NIC from device manager and re-installing.

The full message is error 1075: The dependancy service either does not exist or has been marked for deletion

This started with a tidserv!inf infection. Norton End-Point seems to have deleted all related virus infections, however, I am now unable to start the DHCP service. I have to set a static IP in order to connect to the internet.

I believe tdx.dll was identified as a virus and deleted. it was listed as a dependancy of dhcp but had no descriptor. Currently it is not listed as a dependancy.

I cannot view network shares from this PC nor can I view shares that I host here on other PC's. Only this computer shows up in net places.

I did an sfc /scannow and it told me audiodev.dll and mofd.dll were corrupted and the files in the store have been corrupted.

I had to take ownership with the admin group in order to replace them with extracted copies from my windows cd, but I when I went back to reassign trustedinstaller as the owner it was not listed as an option.

my cd is without service pack and my installed service pack is sp2.

can anyone be of assistance.

Hi thanks for any help you can give.

I have the original dell discs and access to a working laptop also running win XP [this one]

During a routine virus scan by avira anti vir it quarentined c:\windowes\system32\drivers\netby.sys.

This disabled the DHCP client so no IP traffic
I restored the file but still no luck

After trying to renew the IP and some searching around I found that the HKEY local machine system currentcontrolset services NETbt registry key is missing

In services DHCP cannot be restarted --gives the warning above.
AFD and TCP/IP are in device manager -non plug & play show hidden devices NETbt is not

Can the registry be repaired from the original discs without having to reinstall everything else?
Or is it as easy as inserting the missing registry key?

Thanks Bob

Hello all,

I've noticed that a few people have posted concerning this topic, so I've tried to read up on as many possible solutions before posting. I'm recently recovering from a mild virus infection on my computer, and noticed that after I had run Avast! and Malwarebytes to remove the virus, my computer lost its internet functionality. Upon running ipconfig in command prompt, I noticed that the computer was not being assigned an IP address, which lead me to believe there could be an issue with DHCP.

I noticed that someone else had posted a very similar problem, but a few of the more advanced fixes seemed specifically tailored for their issue.

Below are the fixes I've attempted thus far -

1. Checked the registry for DHCP?s dependencies (3 are listed, Afd, Tcpip, and NetBT).
2. Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults by typing ?netsh int ip reset reset.log? into command prompt.
3. Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults by typing ?netsh winsock reset catalog? into command prompt.
4. Ran ?sfc /scannow? with an XP SP3 CD.

I'm currently running Windows XP Media Center, Service Pack 3 on a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop I had purchased in mid-2006.

DHCP and TCP/IP can not be started from Services with out the following error.

Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

I've checked the dependencies and all are running.

AFD is the only driver common to both DHCP and TCP/IP so I assumed it is either not running or is corrupt..yet when I try to start AFD from the CMD prompt I get...."service is already running.

I have since disabled my Lan Connection via Network Connections as it just sits there trying to acquire ip without ever timing out.

I also performed a registry scan with Registry Booster in Safe Mode. It reported:

1061 System Errors
205 User Errors, and
1 Third Party Error

A cursory review of the log tells me the majority have to do with poorly uninstalled programs. I did NOT let Registry Booster fix anything.

I can get this VPN to run and connect when I use Microsoft's XP virtual machine sitting on the Windows 7 desktop but I cannot get it to run on the Windows 7 desktop by itself.

Although the VPN seems to load without incident the associated icon "key" does not appear in the notification tray at the lower right. It does appear in the XP virtual machine and on a separate HP desk top running Vista.

When I type services.msc at the Win 7 command prompt I get a list of all the loaded services including the CheckPoint VPN. It is at this point when I try to start the VPN I get the 1075 error. When I check the dependencies under the VPN I find the "CheckPoint Office Mode Module" and the "VPN-1 Module".

How do I determine if these dependencies are causing the 1075 error message? What steps do I need to take to resolve the error message so the VPN will start?

make sure your Firewall is allowing the following:
SR_SDS.EXE
SR_GUI.EXE
SR_WATCHDOG.EXE
SR_SERVICE.EXE

If you're running 3rd party software FW, disable or uninstall it.

I have read through the original thread (now closed) and tried all it's suggestions. However, I am still having the same IP (on lack of) issues. I ended my efforts with the running of SFC /SCANNOW which took a considerable amount of time, but resulted in no errors of any kind.

I continue to get the Error 1075: the dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion, message when trying to start the DHCP Client.

I'm afraid searching the suggested logs for the dependency items it a little over my head.

A little background for my situation. The computer in question is my teenage daughters. A week ago she started having problems with the internet and I'm assuming this is some sort of virus. Whenever selecting a website to launch to, something intervenes and chooses some alternate website. Never the same one twice. I loaded AVAST free version and did a scan. I also updated Malware Bytes and did another scan. I then loaded Kaspersky TDDS killer and did a scan with that. After all that, and roughly 15 files quarantined and deleted, I now have this IP problem. I cannot restore the computer back to an earlier time.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

DHCP Client will not start from services menu and neither will TCP/IP all other networking services appear to be started and working.

DHCP dependencies are:

AFD Networking Support Environment
TCP/IP Protocol
IPSEC driver
TCP/IP dependencies are:
AFD

Since the TCP/IP's only dependency is AFD I suspect it has been deleted or corrupted. How do I go about fixing that?

Greetings,
I am having a major DHCP error on my girlfriend's laptop. I am primarily a Linux user so I'm kinda lost here as her machine is running XP. It's a Dell XPS M1210 which, conveniently, did not come with a recovery CD or even partition.
Anyway, a few weeks ago her wireless network device stopped working. It would look like it was connecting, but it would hang on "Acquiring network address." At first I thought maybe the device was shot, until I had the chance to test out the wired ethernet, which has the same problem.
After quite a bit of googling, I ran services.msc, and saw that DHCP is not running. When I try to start it from that menu, however, I get this message: "Could not start the DHCP Client service on Local computer. Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."
After more googling, I discovered that DHCP has only 3 dependencies: TCP/IP, AFD, and NetBt. I checked the registry, and those were the only ones listed.
After even more googling, I ran devmgmt.msc and selected "show hidden devices" and double clicked on "non plug and play devices." I TCP/IP and AFD are both there. NetBt, however, is not.
I've spent hours doing further googling and tried pretty much every fix I could find and nothing seems to work. If the PC had shipped with a recovery CD I imagine this would be easy to fix but alas no luck. I need to get this working so I can set up my new internets and I... Read more

Like many I have referred to your site many times over the years to help extract the baddies of the online world mostly for friends computers, I have always been able to get the systems back up and running by either following a main thread or a thread in where a technician walks another user through an issue that is similar. My PC is three years old and has been a great machine. I run Windows XP Home Edition, I.E. 7 and have all the protection installed I can find.

Quite by accident I discovered my System Restore is not working. I don't need it at the moment (!!!) but I like everything to be as near as perfect as possible on my PC so I have been trying to discover what the SR problem is and how I can resolve it.

I keep getting the message "S R is not able to protect your computer. Please restart and run SR again"............This advice does not work. for me!
I cannot turn off SR for the same reason.

I then checked out this section of the forum and discovered that many people have had this same problem. I have tried downloading Kelly's file 238 (I think that was the number) ; I have tried accessing services.msc ; I have tried accessing i386: nothing!

I did get the message "Error 1075: "Dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion". This error seeems to apply to many facilities on a PC.

I have my windows XP disk but cannot lay my hands on the SP2 one so I don't want to mess about without your professional advice to do so!! (apologies!)

As I said, if you solve my problem you will be miracle workers and worthy of your wings.

My thanks for any help you can offer me.

Another workaround would be searching for sr.inf, right click it and select "Install". You might need Window XP install disc.

This is my sister's netbook. The problems started with one of those new "fake antivirus" that puts up a ton of obviously fake results that claim your computer is highly infected*. She being... less technologically inclined apparently decided to run the "Antivirus scan" over and over again over night and then the next day gave it to me to try to figure out what was wrong. I can't find the links right now but I found a bunch of blogs that mentioned (Privacyprotection.exe) and among the most frustrating aspects what that it blocked pretty much everything from running. I did a bit of digging and eventually found out it was a rootkit causing the issues and the tools they gave me wouldn't run but I was able to follow the manual instructions. (remove the .exe, remove the alias, regedit and remove the key that matched privacyprotection.exe but not the other ones like the one underchrome etc). That took care of the major problem and I was able to get Microsoft Security Essentials running but everyscan kept turning up a few "Trojans" and that upon trying to clean would result in an error. The error would lead to 'restart to finish removel'. I tried safe mode and the same result. One top of that google results kept getting redirected (forget the site right now.. something like awesomesearch.com or what have you). Hey all!
I am really desperate. I've tried a few things that other people have posted here, especially Cookiegal and Lumpola but this issue persists.

I had a virus. I think I got rid of it. Avast scans and boot time scans and Super Anti Spyware and TDSS killer report all clear. However, the network shield of Avast and the Internet don't work.
Points to note:
1. In services, the DHCP and DNS cannot be started. I get the error 1075: service has been marked for deletion or one of it's dependancies are missing. (close to that)

I've checked the dependancies of both, and reinstated the ADF module in device manager after selecting the 'View Hidden' option.

A:DHCP Server Service -Error 1075 - not starting

2. I've tried deleting the winsock and winsock2 entries in the registry.
3. From the command prompt, SFC/scan now terminates at 82%. thrice.
4. I can see the network, both wired and wireless, I can connect, but it says I have limited connectivity.

Hello,

I followed the instructions here to remove the XP 2012 antivirus malware:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-xp-antivirus-2012

However, I was having problems with MalwareBytes continually blocking various IP addresses from outgoing, so I decided to read around.

On some blog, people said that running Combofix would solve the problem, so I proceeded to do that.

It stated that there was Zero Access rootkit, and it proceeded to remove it.

But now, I cannot access the internet. Through Network connections, it says that I have a LAN connection. However, when I try to repair it, it states:

"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed."

I've attached DSS and GMER logs, as well as the combofix log.

Glancing at a similar topic that was solved earlier today, I've included a log from Farbar Service Scanner.

(Edit) added GMER log and link to networking thread. (Edit 2) added reason why cryptodan thought something was amiss (at the end of this post)HiA little over a week ago, MSE caught a virus that had dropped into netbt.sys and maybe some other file (can't remember) and it recommended removing the file. I did. Upon reboot, my computer could no longer establish an internet connection. I looked around the internet, copied over a netbt.sys from a working computer with the same OS, and even tried to muck around with the registry keys related to netbt.sys. I finally got internet access when I manually set my IP address in the TCP/IP properties. In the meantime, I started a malware thread on another site but didn't get a response. So I started a malware thread on a different site and got a user to help me clean out my system (username is similar to one I see helping people on this site). My computer was deemed clean, but the network still was not good. I then came here to the networking forum and had cryptodan help me out. We identified the problem to be that the Services -> DHCP Client was not automatically starting up even though it a) was set to automatically start up and clicking on START started it up just fine and enabled me to use the internet in DHCP mode instead of manual IP address mode. However we then ran TDSSKiller as another site had some users have some success here. It found nothing to my novice eyes, but cryptodan suggested that my computer could... Read more

When I click on the wireless network on my laptop I see that the status is connected and signal strength is full. The activity section hints at the problem in that it shows plenty of sent packets but nothing, zero for received.

My firewall is on and I add that only to tell you that a tech person at my school where I work was on my laptop. Afterwards, I noticed the red icon on my laptop to tell me my firewall was off. I know I have to keep it off at school for reasons, but home I have always had it on for common sense reasons.

When I click the support tab on the wireless connection and click repair (and yes...on the side of this button it already tells me that Windows did not detect problems with this connection..." this error message comes up.
After disabling and enabling the adapter the computer says: Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Clearing NetBT

Hello,

On July 12th 2012, my computer installed updates. After rebooting and waiting for me on the login screen, I gave it a hard shutdown to check on the BIOS settings (for a little side project, in the end I did not save any changes). After booting and logging in again, I find that many services are not running. I ran a very thorough check for malware and viruses (took over 24 hours to complete), and still no solutions. I have uninstalled/reinstalled my Broadcom 802.11g Wireless Driver several times.
I now look in the Event Viewer and find that the DHCP Client service is not running! It is set to automatic start in Services.msc, but when I try to manually start it, it gives me error 1075 (some dependencies do not exist or are marked for deletion). Running ipconfig, I notice that my system is using an APIPA-formatted address (169.254.x.x), indicating that the computer couldn't find a DHCP server.

A:windows audio: error 1075 the dependency service does not exist or has

From your description there are many more problems than just the windows audio error.

I would suspect an Operating System problem. If you can find a friend to download the Windows 7 Home Premium ISO and burn it to a DVD, that would give you the needed disc to try and repair Windows. Although your DVD drive does not work in Windows, it should work for booting.

Here is the link to the forum post. There are links to the various versions. You can download the same version that you have.

Hi

Similar problem as a bunch of others. I let MS Security Essentials fix a virus that was found in netbt.sys. After restart, i can no longer connect to the internet. I'm guessing my registry keys are also likely messed up.

Any help to get me back online with this XP computer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

OK... so I've had at least 3 viruses recently.

One was the PC Repair virus, which I thought I had worked around, only it deleted anything in the subfolders of the start menu.
Then the Google redirect stuff started happening.
Now I have the NetBT issue that everyone seems to have here... and my taxes are due in 7 days!

HiJackThis and DDS logs below. attach.txt is attached.

I am having a devil of a time with the GMER program... went to bed at 10pm last night, 5 hours after I started GMER... it wasn't finished. When I woke up, the computer had rebooted... log lost. Trying again this evening... will post if successful.

I wanted to at least get in the queue.

Hello everyone,

My computer at work was infected with "Antivir Solution Pro".
I attempted to fix it without Malwarebytes as I do not have administrative rights to the computer, so I relied on HijackThis and two other virus scanners, one of them were Microsoft Forefront Client Security that was already installed.

I did a manual removal of the virus with bleeping computer's removal instructions for this specific virus, then found this in my HijackThis log:

O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'z:\windows\system32\mswsock.dll' missing

However, my computer's internet is working: the computer itself and the remote connection's internet.
The virus was caught on the remote computer.

Is there any way to locate this file on a clean computer and paste it over?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I had a virus 2 days ago. After reading some logs on your site and running multiple scans, virus removers, etc the virus seems to be gone and computer is up and running. But there are still some missing files in my start up menu including calculator. Also alot of the programs in the start up menu just say empty. I ran the unhide.exe and it did help find some but most are still missing.

Any ideas on how to find the missing files?

Oh I am running windows XP if that helps.

Thanks!!

A:Still missing files after virus removal

Hello, kimbidawn,do not run a Temp file or registry cleaner or they will be lost. This infection family will also hide all the files on your computer from being seen. To make your files visible again, please download the following program to your desktop:Unhide.exe Once the program has been downloaded, double-click on the Unhide.exe icon on your desktop and allow the program to run. This program will remove the +H, or hidden, attribute from all the files on your hard drives. If there are any files that were purposely hidden by you, you will need to hide them again after this tool is run.

My wife's computer was recently infected with Agent_r.xj. Twice. The first time I spent five days and finally got it cleaned out, and the next day it was infected again (darn kids).

She's running Vista.

I tried the same steps that had removed it the first time, including Spybot, Malware Bytes, and CCleaner.

The virus appears to be gone, but now the desktop is blank. There are no icons. The Start Button and taskbar are there, but no Quick Launch Icons.

Most worryingly, when I navigate to C: in My Computer, the only folders visible are Perflogs, Program Files, and Users. The Users folder only shows Public, which is empty. So there is not way of accessing any of her documents, music, pictures, etc. I want to back them up so I can do a full reinstall. I have reason to believe they files are still actually there because when doing virus/malware scans, the file paths for all her files show up just fine, but I have no way to navigate to any of them. I am uploading a Hijack This log. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It mentions that it relates to the 4319 error as well. Before you do anything in the registry, you may want to backup just in case:

How to Flush DNS in Windows Using the Command Prompt

Step 1 ? Close all open web browsers and applications on your computer.

Step 2 ? Open the Windows command prompt by selecting the ?Start? menu and then go all programs, accessories, then right click command and run as admin.

Step 3 ? At the command prompt, enter ?ipconfig /flushdns? followed by pressing the ?enter? key. After a moment, Windows will display a message similar to: ?Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.? Once the message is displayed, the DNS will be flushed removing all incorrect entries.

Then , we want to get the IP reset, so, lets renew its settings and see if this also helps out :
you will type in the command box : ipconfig /release then enter, then next ipconfig /renew then enter, this will reset the IP , now restart and attempt to have it reconfigure its connections to your router. Post back results please.

Hi,
I would really appreciate some help on this, I have looked EVERYWHERE, even these forums, and every topic i find has many ideas but none seem to work. Of course I will try them all again if needed and recommended.

Anyway here is what it is...

I have very inconsistent access to the internet through my main computer. I had added new computer to the network a long time ago and they both worked fine for a long time. When i added a third however this problem began, (Im not sure if that is the cause, becuase it hasnt even been connected to the network for the majority of the time ive had the problem, its been in a corner because of monitor issues)

Sometimes the internet works (not on main comp now) other tiems it doesnt, when it does it seems slower than it should.

I can't see any network places of other computers from main comp, and repairing the connection gives the problem, task can't be completed : clearing NetBT.

Other computer does not have this problem at all, and has reliable internet access, and can see network places.

I have tried alot of things, would be happy for help please.
EDIT: All comps on XP
Can't ping other machines.
Networked through router
Thanks in advance

A:Clearing NetBT, Network places internet acces, (one problem 3 issues I believe)

Is the router assigning IP's? You say you can't ping other machines, can you ping the router? If you can ping the router, and if the router is providing IP's, open a command prompt at each machine and type "ipconfig /release & ipconfig /flushdns & ipconfig /registerdns & ipconfig /renew".

Hi. Rather strange problem. Acer Aspire 1 netbook, running Windows XP.

I removed what I thought was a fairly simple bit of malware from a client's pc.

Now I can't seem to access the internet from any installed browsers. The weird part? I CAN still access the internet from any browser installed on a USB drive.

I'm thinking registry issue, possibly due to the malware. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

After removing the Vundo trojan from my laptop, I am not able to access the internet. When I go to Internet Explorer, a screen with "The page cannot be displayed" comes up. I have scanned my laptop with MalwareBytes and the report comes back clean. I ran a Hijacker scan and found the following: Broken internet access because of LSP provider 'C:\windows\system32\winhelper86.dll' missing. I'm not sure what to do now.

A:Cannot access the internet after Vundo removal

winhelper86.dll was related to your infection. Generally, most Internet connectivity problems arise out of corrupt Winsock settings due to the installation of a networking software or Malware infestation. Broken Internet access can be caused by various types of Layered Service Provider (LSP) software installed on a system. LSPs are designed to integrate directly into the computer's TCP/IP layer - the protocol used to communicate on the Internet. LSPs are installed in such a way that each LSP in the TCP/IP handler are chained together. However, due to Winsock Hijackers, bugs in some LSPs, deletion of the software or incorrect removal, this chain can become broken resulting in loss of ability to connect to the Internet.XP users can download and run LSPFix which should/may restore Internet connectivity.Be sure to print out and follow the instructions provided in the Using LSP-Fix Tutorial. Vista users can refer to:How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows VistaHow to Repair and Reset Vista Winsock CatalogRepair and Reset Windows Vista TCP/IP Winsock Catalog CorruptionNote: The netsh winsock reset command resets the Winsock catalog to the default configuration (clean state) and removes all LSPs (Layered Service Providers) previously installed. It is useful if a malformed LSP is installed that results in loss of network packets transmission failure leading to loss of network connectivity. Any previously-installed LSPs will need to be re-installed. Instead of the using... Read more

Hello, first post here. I had a Zero Access infection and after reading through several forums and trying various suggestions, I seem to have removed it. Combofix runs (I now know that I shouldn't have run this, but it did find and eliminate the Zero Access rootkit) and now no longer sees any infections, Malawarebytes now runs and sees nothing as does Spybot. However, I now have no internet connection and I cannot seem to start my NOD32 service. I tried to repair the NOD32 and it fialed saying someting called NUPD98.msi cold not be found. I have tried various things like registering the service, flushing DNS etc., removing NOD32, all to no avail. I cannot start the Windows firewall as it says that I have a dead connection. The message in the taskbar is that I have limited or no connectivity. Repairing the internet also does nothing. I have also tried rolling back the driver, uninstalling and reinstalling the device and that kind of thing. I also can now no longer install NOD32 as the service cannot be started. So something is still on my system that is preventing me from having an internet connection (I know it works becuase I am using another computer on the same wireless to write this post) and running NOD32 and Windows Firewall.I have attached the requested files as well as the most recent Combofix file and a TDSSKiller log.DDS.txt.DDS (Ver_2011-08-26.01) - NTFSx86 Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.5.0_17Run by Bill at 9:48:33 on 2011-09... My problem is that my laptop can't access the internet.

I don't have any internet at home; I take my laptop to a public Wifi when I need a connection. About two weeks ago, I installed a parental control sifting service in my laptop, provided by InternetRimon. This is a very popular and highly trusted service in my community. They use VPN to install it and to provide service. At the time of the installation, I had both Avast and McAffee, although both were expired. I used to have K9, a different parental control software that worked without VPN.

Avast gave warnings that the VPN could be malware, so InternetRimon made exceptions for their files. They couldn't access the definitions for McAfee, so we deletedit. We couldn't figure out how to delete the McAfee site advisor, so it is deactivated. We also deleted K9 because it is known to conflict with InternetRimon. We had recurrent problems installingInternetRimon, so they recommended replacing the expired Avast with Microsoft Security Essentials instead. We deleted Avast, and I installed Microsoft Security Essentials immediately afterwards.I did a complete scan the day I installed the new antivirus. It found no problems.

The service by InternetRimon can only be made once there is an actual internet connection in effect.Whenever this occurs, the software installed in my computer makes a VPN connection to InternetRimon, and prevents internet access until this is accomplished. After initial difficulties gett... Read more

A:no internet access after trojan removal

The forum instructions said that anyone who doesn't get a reply within two days should request to be bumped up, so that's what I'm doing.
Meanwhile, I understood that there is more damage than just the one trojan I found, so I ran another Malwarebytes scan. I found another ten infected items. I deleted three infected files I didn't need from my downloads folder, and flushed them from the recycle bin. Then I used the Malwarebytes utility to dispose of the other infections. I ran a subsequent scan, and all is clean, but there is no internet connection, neither cable nor wifi, and the InternetRimon icon is gone.

Hi guys! I've been having a nagging problem for a couple of weeks now and not sure what it is.

My anti-virus program keeps popping up a window with this message: "The firewall has blocked Internet access to your computer (NetBIO Session) from 211.24.253.185 (TCP Port 1871) (TCP Flags: S). Some pop up windows display different 'blocked Internet access' like '(NetBIOS Name) from 201.42.217.229 (UDP Port 1025)'.
I use a local broadband service and the TCP/IP connection does not correspond with any of those that are blocked by the firewall.

These messages pop up almost every few minutes no matter which site I'm surfing. I just click the 'OK' button and carry surfing with no interruptions.

My question: Is this a virus? How do I stop it?

I use WindowsXP Pro, Zone Alarm and Ad-ware anti virus protection.

I tried searching for related problems on Google for 'NetBIOS Session and NetBIOS Name' but it was too much technical info for me to understand, even if it was a problem, leave alone what it is!

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, I am brand-new at this. After reading almost everything I can find on your website about the System Restore virus which I had on Dell PC. Using a different PC to communicate, download programs, etc. Running Windows XP Home on infected PC. Had all the messages as described in your System Restore virus tutorial. I was not able to open my security program which is provided by my internet provider and has since that time become outdated, so if I can get my internet back, I can update it and/or possibly purchase a better security option. At first, my internet was still working. After finally getting the virus window to minimize, I got to my home page, but could not get anywhere really. Ran RKill, then TDSS Killer (before the major attach of System Restore, I had been having problems with Google searches, but had no idea that was also a virus issue), Super Antispyware, then ran Malwarebytes program, and finally the Unhide program. After all of this, no internet. Most files reappeared, but lots of them are empty. Went back to your website and read some more. Then backed up my data (C:\), disabled any CD emulation software with DeFogger, ran DDS tool and have attached logs, downloaded GMER, but was not able to run.

Hello Bleepingcomputer! I am a long time user of PCHelpForum that has been reffered to this forum as a better alternative and I decided to check it out. There is definitely something funky going on with my computer, as I recieve virus infection pop ups occasionally, my computer will randomly say it has encountered an issue and needs to restart, and has had internet connectivity issues. I used to frequently use HijackThis! logs as a means of analysis, but it seems that this FRST application has taken over that niche. Please let me know what additional information you may need for your analysis. If there are any unneccessary files or programs installed that may be an issue as well, please let me know, as I am trying to do as much of a deep clean as possible. Thank you in advance for taking time to check out these problems.

A:Virus analysis and removal. Random virus pop-ups and internet connectivity issue

Thank you for deleting the extra copy of this post. Once I hit post, my internet connection was lost and it must have double posted when I reconnected. Also, it may be worth noting that normally when I run antivirus software, there is generally a little bit of malware or spyware that is found, but recently when I run a multitude of different scan programs absolutely nothing shows up. Either my computer is squeaky clean after nearly 6 months without scans, or something is blocking/hiding from the scanners. It seems to be the latter, as I have mentioned that I am having issues with my laptop shutting down intermittently, virus warning popups, and internet connectivity issues stemming from something altering my connection preferences.
