Error 1075/No Internet after Norton Anti Virus

Q: Error 1075/No Internet after Norton Anti Virus

Hey Everyone.

Maybe someone could be of help. I have gone through several different forums and have attempted several ways to try to fix this but have had no luck.

I have tried the netsch winsock reset
I have tried the ipconfig /renew
My DNS service starts but my dchp client doesnt want to and gives me the error 1075.
I have removed NAV still nothing.

I have also tried many other alternatives but im just not remembering at the moment and I am just stumped.

Internet works on my other two computers, but my laptop is what seems to not want to connect wirelessly or routed. Something seems to be blocked or missing.

If anyone can please help me in any way possible it would greatly be appreciated. If you need me to provide some more details please let me know.

Thanks
Lewis B.

After a Trojan attack, I used Kaspersky Virus Remover to remove them. It seems to have been successful, but now I can't access the internet.

Below are clues to resolving the problem. I just don't know what to do next.

Well, about a month ago, I switched from Norton anti-virus, which came with the computer to Norton Internet Security,(which also comes with a firewall), I am finding it seems, anyway to be a lot better. It covers a lot more bases, especially with protection while online. It updates alot more than anti-virus did and the only security problems I find during scans are cookies.
I am thankful for this site, it is helpful. I am a music blogger and always was able to use a work computer. So, the internet I know well, computers,NOT!!! , People want me to get on facebook, It takes a long time to load sometimes, I am very apprehensive about using facebook, because I tried a few years ago on work computer and it brought some viruses. I already use Tweeter, and Blogger. Any thoughts on Facebook and keeping safe?

A:Norton Internet Security,replaced Norton anti-virus

Any thoughts on Facebook and keeping safe?Social networking sites (MySpace, YouTube, Facebook) can be a significant security risk which could make your computer susceptible to malware infection. As with gaming sites, users visiting MySpace, YouTube, Facebook...are exposed to innocuous-looking banner ads containing code which can trigger pop-up ads and malicious Flash ads that install viruses, Trojans and spyware. Ads are a target for hackers because they offer a stealthy way to distribute malware to a wide range of Internet users. [size=4][font=Times New Roman]I received a error message that said I would need to uninstall Nortons and reinstall in order for it to work properly. I run Windows XP and for about two months I have been having problems with the computer crashing and then a message from Windows which stated that my system had recovered from a serious error. To make a long story short, I uninstalled Nortons and then reinstalled it. I had also received the message from Microsoft that my system was probably infected with "Spyware.Apropos C." When I reinstalled Nortons now I keep getting a message from Norton Anti Virus Auto Protect which states that a virus with the name Spyware.Apropos C has infected my system and I need to scan. Then something prevents Norton's antivirus from starting the scan. Also, the Norton's Icon in my system tray has a red x on it and it says it is disabled. I have contacted Norton's and I do not wish to pay an arm and a leg for assistance as I thought the warranty, on the product which has another 77 days before it expires, would enable me to receive assistance should something sneak around Norton's. Does anyone have any idea as to how to take care of this problem? I went to Microsoft and ran a virus scan in safe mode from their web site but it still did not touch the Spyware.Apropos C which must be embedded somewhere. I also attempted a scan from Symantac itself but it would not work. I feel like I paid a lot of money for something that is not worth... Read more

I have installed Norton Anti Virus and Internet Security to my computer system. I restart my machine and Norton come on (the red x disappears), but the X on IS stays on. I right click on IS and enable the app then it appears to be on. I then go to the system tray put the mouse over both items and they disappear. I go into my outlook and IE and they both appear there as if they were working but are not showing in my system try. I try to open the IS but it doesn't. I am at a loss for why they don't show up or are not appearing when I double click on it. They appear to be protecting my machine but their presence is not in the system tray when I am use to them being. Can anyone help me out with this. I had 2003 versions on there and they work these are the 2004 and they are not appearing in the system tray. I have re-loaded XP 4 times thinking I did something wrong there. Can someone shed some light on this for me.

Thanks

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking but if you want to see if Norton apps are running and protecting your system, hit ctrl+alt+delete and click the process tab. Regardless if its in your system tray, it will show up there. Let us know please.

I have Norton 2005 and it just uses WAY TOO much of my computer resources. I was told of the problem and slightly aware of it but really noticed it yesterday. I was burning a DVD and forgot to shut off Norton to do it- the entire time the computer resources were at 100%. I re-burned the DVD knowing that it wouldn't work right because of that fact AFTER shutting down Norton. This time the resources never went over 7%. I'm now sure that Norton is a major part of the problems I have with AOL freezing and closing down because the resources are always at 100% when AOL goes nuts.

Is there anthing else I can use that you guys suggest? ANything free on-line? I figured I'd ask here before going and buying something. Last time I did that I spent 50 bucks on DVD burning programs that sucked, spent another $45 on a program that was alright and then found free programs on a DVD message board that blew those programs away. So I wasted nearly 100 bucks- won't do that again.

Thanks for the help.

My girlfriend updated her Symantec/Norton anti-virus security on her Dell PC Computer yesterday. I think she still has a 2003 version along with the 2005 version installed, but I am not certain. She did something funky because she no longer is able to access the internet. Her television cable is fine and her local area connection that I accessed through the control panel appears fine as well (it counts how long she has been connected to the internet). And I checked the high speed wires and all is connected fine.

I assume the problem is how she installed the Symantec security. I have tried System Restore a few times but it is not functioning properly. I also looked for the Norton firewall, but I don’t think she installed that.

Anyone know what I can do?

Thanks in advance.

A:Renewed Norton Anti-Virus Now No Internet Access

Let's take a look at a HijackThis log. You can download in onto a floppy and install it on the machine that can't get on-line.

Please do the following:

* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

My subscription to Norton Anti-Virus recently ran out, so I decided to upgrade it to Norton Internet Security 2003. I go with the internet download option and install it. Shortly thereafter, NIS starts asking me to permit all sorts of files asking to connect to the internet. I allow all of them so far.

It used to ask for a couple on startup that looked a little fishy, so I clicked block. My computer ran fine afterwards, so I choose the "Use This Option Everytime" button and set it to block. As soon as I do that, all java stops working, I get internal errors with my media player, and any function that uses buttons(i.e. searching) don't work. When I go to my Program Files folder, it just sits blank.

I try and go through the options, but when I click on the links for the options(Personal Firewall, Security, Intrusion Detection, etc.) it takes me to a 404 error. The worst part is that it actually won't allow me to use most of the functions of Norton Anti-Virus(the outgoing email scan is the only thing that still works). I think I have since caught a virus of some sort because I have in the title bar of IE it says "FCB(copyright symbol) [<0>].

I can't actually close out NIS or NAV, and to uninstall NIS I have to close NAV. When I go to the Add/Remove programs window, it just says "Change or Remove ProgramsAdd New ProgramsAdd/Remove Windows ComponentsSet Program Access and Defaults". Hi, I'm new to this forum, and asking this on behalf of a friend whose computer has just got us both bewildered.

Installed Norton AntiVirus 2004 no problem at all. However, the internet will not now work. It dials up and connects no problem at all, but no site can be accessed - just "page cannot be displayed" or "cannot open the search page".

The settings are clearly correct and unchanged, as it dials up properly.

Please can someone help? Many thanks. If you need this information, my friend has got Win98, IE6 and uses tesco.net

Many thanks indeed,

I have done everything systemtec has said to do, took it out, put it back still the same thing. I think i may have a virus now SKy something I got an email saying i did anyways, who knows that was probably the virus!

A:Error message for Norton anti virus

You should go and run an online virus scan. You may have a virus that has disable your Norton A/V. You can go HERE or try HERE . Run them both if you choose. If you don't find anything... you may have to uninstall Norton A/V (using the removal tool on Symantec's website) and installing it again. Post back for continued help or let us know if the problem is solved.

When I start Norton AV, the following message comes up:

An error has occurred in the script on this page
Line: 169
Char: 2
Error: Permission denied
Code: 0
URL: res://C:\Progra~1\Norton~1\Navul.dll/navstats.htm
Do you want to continue?
Yes No

When I click Yes, the program opens to the System Status screen. Normally it refreshes within a short period of time and lets me know how current my virus definitions are, when the most recent system scan was performed, etc. In this case each item is listed as refreshing, but nothing ever happens to get past this.
Any suggestions?

A:Norton Anti Virus error message

Hi, Can you get any updates for Norton at all?

If you have been keeping up with updates> or not just to check> Boot to Safe Mode and run Norton Antivirus, and try a full scan to see what it finds.

To get to Safe Mode, tap the F8 key several times, quickly, just as you see any text onscreen when you start up or restart the computer....when you get the startup menu, select Safe Mode with arrow key, and hit Enter key once. Give it plenty of time to get to the Desktop.

Then, try running an antivirus scan of the whole hard drive.

Post if anything is found.
Here is an online scan, if you would like to try one:

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

Panda lets you save a Report when you are finished scanning, as Activescan.txt, if any infected files are found, please copy the text andpost it with your next reply.

Also, we would like to see a Hijackthis log, to rule out any other types of problems such as trojans or ad-based stuff.

There are directions here to do it: There are .zip form and .exe form, take your pick.

Download it here:

http://radiosplace.com/

Or here.
It's a direct download so be ready with the folder for it.

Basically, you create a new folder, the desktop is OK provided you make a folder, name it something like HJT, and download TO that folder, run hijackthis.exe from there. If there are users of the computer who might start HJT and use it, hide the program in a folder elsewhere!

Hey, I re-installed WindowsXP for someone today and I did not format. I just chose "new installation" so it overwrote everything for the most part. However, the "program files" folders were still all there, that may be where my problem is coming from. Anyway, this person has Norton Anti-virus 2002 and while I'm installing it gets to the point of "registering LU" and I get this first error with an OK button:

Live Update Error
There was a problem trying to register with Live Update. Live Update will not be available for this product.

Then I hit OK and it continues for about 5 seconds and then I get this second error:

Fatal Error
Installation ended prematurely because of an error.

After that, I hit ok and it aborts installation. Looking around in the old norton folder I cannot find any way to uninstall and re-install, should I just delete the norton and symantec folders entirely and try installing?

A:Fatal error while trying to install Norton Anti-virus

Hi XDude,

Norton Anti-virus 2002 is outdated. There is no more support at Symantec, so you can't register LiveUpdate, the utility that downloads and upgrades the virus definitions list.

I wonder if anyone could provide advice / a remedy for a problem I've been experiencing with Norton Anti-Virus software. Any help would be appreciated. I'll describe below what happens:

When logging on, an error message appears in the middle of the screen stating that
"Navw32 has caused an error in Navw32.exe. Navw32 will now close." I can just click on a "close" option to get rid of the message, but of course it shouldn't be appearing at all if everything was well. I decided to update the Norton software and accordingly bought a 2004 disk. However, to install this disk I have to first uninstall the older version and this is a problem as, when I attempt to do this from the Programs list, the following message occurs:
"Unable to locate the installation log file C:\ProgramFiles\NortonAntiVirus\nav95.isu. Uninstallation will not continue."

Basically I don't know what action to take to ensure all's well with the Norton software. Obviously I would like the most recent version installed on my laptop, but, as explained, cannot install it at present.

Please help - I just can't eradicate the message or update the Norton anti-virus protection as things stand. I'd be extremely grateful for any assistance. Thanks a lot!

A:Error On Norton Anti-Virus/MHTMLRedir.Exploit

Hi

There is nothing to indicate malware in your log...Did you reinstall Nortons ?.

It may be best to run a scan....

Please download Ewido Security Suite

Install Ewido Security Suite.
When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck: "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu"

To open the main screen double click the icon on the desktop.

You will get a warning 'Database could not be found!'.(only if no updated have first been installed) Click OK.

Update to the latest definition files. On the left of the main screen click Update. Then click on Start Update.Let it complete the updates.

Now Click on Scanner and Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will start.

During some scans it may find cases of false positives so you will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.

If a file is detected you KNOW to be legitimate, select None as the action. Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'

If you are unsure of any entry found play safe and select None as the action.
Press the button marked Save Report

Save the report .txt file to your desktop or somewhere you can find it.Post it back here.......

My computer is forever stuck on "Acquiring Network address". I have tried to go into the services, and turn on the DHCP Client, however I get an Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion, and it will not start. Attached is the logs you wished. Hopefully someone can help out. (Note: This is not the affected computer, the logs are from it, however) I am running Windows XP Home Edition, SP3. My computer (vista) was infected with a virus. So I first used rkill/iexplore then ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware since my protection (Panda) doesn't seem to do its job correctly. The first time I did this, everything seemed to return to normal. Couple of days later, the same virus started up. I redid what I did...and it seemed to work again...until I tried using the internet. (I think Malwarebytes deleted something in the registry?)

There was an error saying that "DHCP error 1075: The dependancy service either does not exist or has been marked for deletion". I googled this on my laptop and followed some of the instructions found online. None of it worked...

I went into device manager->hiddle files->non plug and play drivers:
There was a problem with these with the same code for them: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)
App Filter Plugin
NetMon Filter Plugin
Panda Net Driver [TDI Layer]
VSCore mferkdk

Finally, I have included the last three logs from Malwarebytes showing which files were deleted by the program.

Thank you for looking over this!!

This is really bad.. I cant copy and paste to backup files for reformat and this sony laptop is telling me that the recovery will delete all files, so no option to do a windows repair. I might need to buy a 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor for this mess im in, if you cant help.. I did many things so far nothing worked..

I had a virus that would not allow me to get any icons, this was fixed after i ran avg in safe mode.

When i got back into the machine I received many pop ups one after another, ad-aware was run and after I cannot start any services, I have everything set to start in msconfig i have admin I cant change users, i cant do windows search, cant see any networks in network places nothing i cant even copy and paste the paste option is Grey when i try to copy then paste...

Every service I try to start i get error 1075 dependency service does not exist for all services.

also the Extended services tab give me nothing not list of any services only the standard tab.. I can click start and i get the error.

also Ad-aware gives me an error too when it tries to start system error 1810 has occurred service is not online.

According to a story at Washingtonpost.com, the latest definitions for Microsoft's Anti-Spy flags Symantec's Norton Antivirus as a trojan and prompts users to delete essentials of the program. Users who follow the instructions hose their installation of Norton, requiring Windows registry edits and complete removal/reinstallation of Norton.

Microsoft's support forum is filling up with complaints, many from businesses that have been hard hit. This should be a cautionary note about deploying beta products in production environments.

All of a sudden NAV Auto protect will not enable and the NAV icon disappears from task bar. I Ctrl-Alt-Delete and NAV is not running in the close program box. I have been to Symantic web site, uninstalled NAV, and deleted virusdefs. The next step is to remove the ShareDefs key from the registry. I click START/RUN and type REGEDIT and hit OK. But window will NOT stay open. I proceeded to reinstall NAV ran full system scan- no viruses- but still Auto protect will not enable. I hav searched for KAK worms (negative). I have also downloaded and executed the WORM_KLEZ.H patch from the microsoft website.

Sorry if this is something very simple, I just can't seem to find a list of blocked programs to delete it from. Thanks in advanceTo my knowledge NAV cannot block Firefox from accessing the internet. Do you have Norton Internet Security? If you do, open it up click on: Firewall/configure/programs/Look for Firefox and on the right hand side it should say "Permit All", if it doesn't change it to that by clicking on whatever it says and a menu will open and you can change it. Make sure you click OK, after you change it.If you do not have Norton check whatever firewall you have.Barb

John,

Do you have the right settings listed in your email properties? Not sure what email program you are using, but you can take a look at this page from Norton's. Here is Norton's page on 2001 help. Just scrol down a little to find. Maybe you can find your answer there. I remember having to manually configure my additional email addresses in Norton's at one time. You may want to check your settings to make sure that everything is passing through the right place. If I remember right, there was a 127.0.0.1 number in there somewhere.

I am trying to install NIS 2005 onto somebody's Win 98 machine. I am going to use a NIS 2006 disc and use the activation code from the software they bought online (I would download the version they purchased but they are on 56K dial up and it would takes ages!!)

When I run the disc will it uninstall NIS 2002 which is already on the PC as part of the new installation?

Please advise...

Also when I run the disc can I choose to install 2005 and not 2006 or does it automatically know to install that due to the PC having Win 98?

again please advise....

A:Norton Anti Virus

I would recommend that you NOT install NIS 2005 on a Windows 98 computer. IMO Norton is a big research hog, that doesn't really do much. I would recommend that you download onto the computer:

* AVG Free or Antivir (not both)
* Spybot Search and Destroy and/or Ad-Aware
* Zonealarm free firewall or Kerio Personal Firewall (again, don't install both)
* Spyware Blaster (Optional, but recommended)
* MVPS Host File (Optional, but recommended)

A friend of mine has Norton 2007 and bought a subscription to update it to 2008 but is having problems installing the 2008 even though the 2007 version was unistalled.

A:Norton Anti-Virus

Hi. . .

Is the 2008 subscription in fact a renewal of the 2007 Symantec product or is it a new version like Norton 360?

I suggest you use the Norton removal tool (by Symantec themselves!) which will allegedly remove many different versions of norton from 2003 - 2008. The symantec download site mentions norton 360 at first, but under step 2 you will see the other versions listed. I can say with 100% certainty that this tool does not remove every file and/or registry entry related to norton.

After you run this, I would strongly advise that you go into MSCONFIG and verify that no norton programs are either running as a service or listed in startup to run during boot-up. I have seen many a pc that was "cleared of norton" by this removal tool, yet I found versions of norton from 2004 and 2005 still running and consuming precious system resources. Note that this issue is not limited to norton/symantec itself but the entire industry.

regards. . .

Also I cannot enable auto protect-when I try to enable it I get that message too. I am wondering if I should just get something else because this has been going on for a long time-I have done the install/uninstall at least 4 times-I am getting very frustrated. I also have AVG which I downloaded to keep me protected while I as fighting with Norton-and now that wont work right either, what should I do??? Should I just buy a different virus protection at walmart or wherever and install that????

I have seen this issue discussed before, but my question is: is the NAV working? I can do live updates and the auto protect appears to be enabled. Below is the error message that appears when I boot.

"Norton Antivirus 2005 does not support repair feature please uninstall and reinstall."

I just paid for this subscription and really cannot afford to purchase another anti-virus program.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance....

Hey, i have norton anti virus program 2007, the norton says it takes windows 2000 and up to Xp it also stand it works on Vista.
Problem i have is that when i try to install it it says it can't be installed sins you don't have Windows XP.
Now i tryd out a 90 days free trail from Microsoft home page, and afther i hade it installed it slowed my computer down.
When i started my computer it was config uppdates, which the computer never got finish with, i waited about 30 min still my computer whas in config uppdates.
So what i am wondering about is that if norton allways makes your computer slow???

A:Norton Anti-virus.

It is quite possible that Norton is slowing your system as it has a reputation as a resource hog. But What are your system specs. Ram ,Hard drive free space.
What did you get from Microsoft?
How many antivirus programs are you running and when was your last scan?
Do you know how many updates it wanted to install? If it's many it may take some time.

After running a norton Virus scan and not finding any viruses I received this message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Program:C\PROGRAMFILES\NORTONANTIVIRUS\NAVW32.EXE

Can anyone tell me what this means and what I should do about this?

Thanks!!

By the looks of things, it might be caused by a Windows file doing it's best impression of a South African MP; it's either missing or corrupt. If re-installing Norton doesn't help, re-installing Windows should do. Tell us if the first solution doesn't work, because others may have a more precise solution. You don't want to be reformatting you're drive...

Hi and welcome to TSG,

lease do this. Click here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html to download Hijack This. It’s very important that you save it to its own folder on your hard drive, such as program files (not temporary files or the desktop), so that it can create proper back-ups and be able to restore them if necessary.

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad. Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed.

Hi,
I have done a full system scan with Norton antivirus and it is telling me that I have Spyware.Dotcomtoolbar but it isn't deleting it, it sayd "delete failed" when I follow the instructions to the security response page to look for removal advice, it tells me to...
1.Update the virus definitions.
2.Run a full system scan and delete all the files detected as Spyware.Dotcomtoolbar.
3.Delete the value that was added to the registry

My problem is that when I do a full system scan there is no delete option! there is also nowhere on the norton site that can tell me what to do. Once the scan is complete, my only choices are "exclude" or "skip" none of which doens anything other than leave the threat there for it to be detected again next time. The value that it also tells me to remove from my registry is not there when I look. Is this something I should continue to waste time trying to sort out or is it ok to leave it there?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Why not download and give AVG virus scan a try. Sometimes, it finds things and fixes things that Norton does not find.

Hello I am new here and have a ton of questions…one at a time though…

I am running a Compaq with Window XP ....

I am attempting to install NAV 2002 from the install disc and I get this message…Error 1304 error writing to file C:\program files\norton antivirus\qconres.dll. verify that you have access to that directory

...the installation can not be completed…..could someone help me. Basicly I am running naked (without Anti virus) so the sooner i get this back in the better

let me add that I had the software installed before (along with NIS) they came with the computer 2years ago.... I foolishly uninstalled the NAV with the intention of reinstalling it ...(don't ask why ..i don't remember!)...but now i can not re-install

any help would be appreciated

I had a similar problem with NAV where as my virus scan just stopped woring after a year or so of use and then it just refused to even open. Once i broke down and paid for the latest version everything is back to working.

Could it be that you need to get the latest version?

I've tried to use Add/Remove Programs and an error comes up saying - Can't uninstall using Add/Remove Programs use Change button instead. So i try that and my computer locks up completely every time. Maybe be a bug or something???

To remove is this just a simple case of manually deleting program via Window Explorer and dragging it into recycle bin or is there a more thorough way of doing it. If so, please share....

Thanks

I just upgraded to Windows xp, and tried to install Norton SystemWorks 2003...each time, everything installs except Norton AntiVirus. I have tried re-installing several times and looking at the modify installation page to make sure it is going to install Everything, but NAV never installs. What is wrong here?

A:Norton Anti-Virus

Is there an error that comes up or is it that NAV will not open after the installation? There is a glitch where the shortcuts aren't correct and have to be manually corrected in several places.

www.symantec.com has a huge database of help topics, it's generally the first place I go when having trouble with Symantec Products.

A:Need help with Norton Anti Virus

Welcome to TSG!

There may be more than one problem with your copy of NAV so you may need to provide more detail, such as;

1. What OS are you using, if XP, do you have SP2 installed?

2. Did you get an error message when Live Update failed to work, did it refer to a number eg: 'LU 1802'?

3. Have you tried to use the Intelligent Update option at the Symantec security response page;http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ If it didn't work, did you get an error message?

4. Unfortunately, the 'cure' for a lot of NAV problems often turns out to be an uninstall and reinstall, but Symantec programs frequently react badly to the process and cause other problems. If all else fails, there are instructions for doing a complete removal and reinstall;http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...=&miniver=&tpre=&prev=&dtype=&src=bar_sch_nam

Hopefully, you did remember to activate the program when you installed it, or soon afterwards;http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...sf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=

My mom needs some low maintanance anti-virus software and in the past has used Norton-- It seems to me that Norton is fairly expensive however and I wonder if anyone had any advice on buying some other product. If so I would love to hear it! Buying a new, updated version of Norton cost's $58--
I have tried this other one but every time it senced any little threat it would pop up and ask that you take action-- I would rather have something that just kind of ran in the background--
Any help appreciated,
Thanks,

I'm trying to install Norton anti-virus 2006 on my home computer. I am at my sister's computer as mine is totally locked up. I went through the process of installing, it said it was installed successfully, instructed me to shut down the computer, which I did, and when the screen came back up again there was a big box that said system could not find norton anti-virus and there is a little box in the left hand corner to click OK but I cannot click on it . It is totally locked up, no mouse available. I have tried control-alt-delete, I have tried shutting down, I have tried unplugging from wall. Nothing works to get that box off my screen.

Any suggestions?

I had to use a startup disk to start my computer back up and now some of my programs don't work. I uninstalled NAV Works and Norton's firewall, then reinstalled it as instructed. Firewall doesn't install for me. NAV Works is installed and looks right, but when I click on any of the feature buttons, nothing happens. The firewall looks as though it's loading, then disappears off the screen before it finishes.

When attempting to install NAV I can not get past the welcome screen. When I click the install button I receive these two errors.(msiexec.exe file is linked to missing export msi.dll:222) and( c:\windows\system\msiexec.exe. A device attached to the system is not functioning). I have been online with Symantec and tried everything they suggested. Their last reply suggested it is a Windows problem and I should contact Microsoft. Well have you ever tried that? I have downloaded and run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. I have deleted and re-installed the Microsoft Windows installer. Still get the same errors. Other than this my system runs fine. Any ideas on how to eliminate these errors will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to TSG!
The first thing I would do is have you go to an free online virus scanner and run it on your system just in case you might have the CIH virus onboard or another.
http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
After a clean bill of health then Grab your windows CD and if you have Win98 or 98SE go to start run and type in SFC and extract a new copy of msi.dll and place it in C:\Windows\Systems folder.
If you have WinME you will have to got to start run and type in msconfig and use the extract there.
Lastly if you have any antivirus program currently on your system you should use the add-remove program and remove it before you install Norton. AV programs do not like to play together.
Keep us posted as to your progress.

I am not sure this is the right forum for this question. I had Symantic Anti Virus Corporate edition on my computer at work. There was always an icon in my system tray for this program. We just bought 2 new computers for my office, and discarded the old computers. I installed this program on the two new computers ( both the exact same Dell computers ). One machine has an icon in the system tray, and one does not. I found this unusual, so I uninstalled the program on the machine without the icon, and reinstalled it. The icon was in the system tray until the next morning when it was no longer there. I know this sounds impossible, but that's what happened. Is there a way to correct this, or should I not worry about it? Also, how do I know if the program is running at startup if the icon is not in the system tray? Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

I "upgraded" from Norton 2003 last week and have been experiencing problems with the anti-virus feature of Norton 360.

Everything seems to work until I try to run a scan: it will run a scan on about 3000 files and then I get an error message saying "Symantec Service Framework has experienced an error" and I have to reboot the PC. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times but no luck. Tried contacting Norton but that was useless. Does anyone have any ideas that does not involved chucking the software away?

Much appreciated! This is very frustrating!
