Bad Image Error in Vista upon opening any program

Q: Bad Image Error in Vista upon opening any program

Hello,

I hope all is well in your world.

I've been infested with Bad Image errors on EVERY program I open manually, or that opens during start up.

The familiar error reads, ""C:\Windows\system32\ajpjDhglj.DLL is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or software vendow for support."

[the "xxxxx".DLL varies with every program, too numerous to note, but the rest of the error is the same with everything I open; in the ajpjDhglj.DLL instance, the program is SendSpace]

I have Norton 360 running (although McAfee was the program running when the problem began; I've since uninstalled it), and I've used Norton's Eraser Tool and Bootable Recovery Tool, AVG's and Sophos' rootkit cleaners, and AVS' registry cleaner to no avail. I did a scan with PC Cleaner, but I did not register in order to fix the 2,000+ questionable items it found even after the AVS scan and fixes.

I have downloaded the TSG files as agreed.

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this plague. Everything else seems to be working fine (although I have no idea if these errors represent a vulnerability beyond Norton's reach).

Here's my system info:

At first I thought this was software specific (it was happening in Photoshop) but now, it happens in other programs.

When I try to open an image (browse>click on image>open) the screen pauses for a moment, then the program closes.

I've done a restore to an earlier date, hoping it was something that I did (as it didn't always happen).

Now, I'm at a loss. It happens in Photoshop CS, Photoshop 7, and ACDSee 6. I don't know if it happens in other programs, as those would be the only ones I have/use. If I double click instead of choosing open, it still does the same thing.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. The only thing I can think of is to format the drive. I'm hoping to find a solution prior to that.

I'm using Windows XP Home.

Thanks in advance,
Erin

Whenever I log onto Windows I immediately begin to get .exe - Bad Image errors. Every program on the desktop registers a .exe - Bad Image error even if I haven't opened it yet (like it's part of the system start up)Here is my HIJACKTHIS LOG. I also attached my active scan & extra.txt logs for you to look at. Thanks & I hope I've done everything correctly.

A:Several .exe - Bad Image errors when opening any program. (Win XP SP2)

Hi, welcome to TSF!

Your harddrive is really small and it's getting full. A full harddrive can cause windows to slow down because it will have to do a lot more tasks in order for it to read and write the files inside.

You do not have any antivirus installed in your machine. Without it, you are really prone to infections. We'll install one later after we get you cleaned up a little.

Download combofix.exe

Double click combo-fix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.
Note:Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.
Do not post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.
If your Antivirus software is detecting combofix or a part of it as a virus, please choose to ignore it as Antivirus products cannot determine the good/bad use of some softwares embedded in combofix.

A:Bad Image Error cannot run any program

Hi,

Seems like your directx 9 is corrupted,
Can you download latest directx 9.0c packet from microsoft web site
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
if the link doesnt work try searching directx 9.0c from www.microsoft.com and find link with latest release of directx end-user runtime

After downloading run the setup which will update the directx 9.0c to latest version and it should replace the d3d9.dll file and hopefully this solves the problem.

A:[Program Name] Bad image error! Please Hel :(

Protuk,

Please use the following diagnostic tools. They may help us get to the cause of your issues:

Please use the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool.
Download: Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Download
Select the version that applies to your system.
Save it to your Desktop.
Double-click the downloaded file to run it.

When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.
At the program's console, press the Scan button.

When done, the tool produces a log, FRST.txt, in the same directory from which the tool is run (Desktop).

Please provide the FRST.txt in your reply.

The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log: Addition.txt
Also post the Addition.txt in your reply.

Also, use the Farbar Service Scanner
Download: Downloading Farbar Service Scanner

Let's get a view of all services and dependencies scoped by the tool...

Make sure the following options are checked:

Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center
Windows Update
Windows Defender
Press: Scan

When done, FSS creates a log, FSS.txt, on the Desktop.

Please provide the FSS.txt in your reply.

Thank you.

The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\w8c6s4xcm66s.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installtion diskette.

Any one know why I keep getting this?

A:Win XP (Program Name).exe...Bad Image Error

Hi tmaher68

that is not a legit file.

If you haven't already, download, install, update immediately, then run AdawareSE. Make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results.

Then download, install, update immediately Spybot S&D.

Have each fix whatever problems they may find.

Next, run an online virus scan at TrendMicro or RAV Antivirus.
Please select the autoclean option when using Trend Micro.

Then get HijackThis . This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Run the scan, save the log, but do not fix anything yet. Many files it finds are harmless, and required for your system to operate.

Post your log in a new thread in the HijackThis Log Help forum. This our dedicated spyware/virus forum. One of the expert analysts there will look over your log and assist you. Please include a brief description of the problem you are having and what you have done to fix it so far.

Hello - I would appreciate your help. Every time I open a program I keep getting an error message 'program name.exe Bad Image' - once I click on it the program opens and works fine. Here is an acutal error message:

"WINWORD.exe Bad Image This application or DLL c:\windows\system32\sejutedi.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette"

Every time I restart my computer I must click all the pop ups as well.

I've run the following scans - Windows: Defender, Live OneCare Safety, Malicious Software Removal Tool, Essentials Tool, and downloaded SP2 and SP3. Also ran SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes and downloaded HijackThis.

After reading some solutions from your website I rand Secunia OSI and PSI - updated all applications on my computer. Also noticed that some used 'ComboFix' that solved this problem for someone else.

Is this some type of trojan virus?

My system is Windows XP, SP3, Home edition, Dell 2400, IE6

Please, please help - I do not what else to do! Warmest regards, Rozzy

Hello PoonXD,I see that you have an HJT log posted here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/214132/abcjump-and-related-malware/ We do not allow more than one topic for the same computer and the same issue as this causes confusion, and in this case may make the disinfection process more difficult. This leaves you with a choice:1) Have this thread reopened and the HiJack This log topic deletedOR2) Keep this thread closed and wait for assistance in the HiJack This log forum. Please note that that forum is VERY busy. Please send a Private Message indicating your choice.Assuming you wish assistance in the HiJack This forum, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. A:Error Opening Disc2phone Program

Hi Mashu.Looked around a few minutes and it seems you're not alone with that problem. Some people have gotten the issue resolved using the Microsoft .NET Framework redistributal package rather then using the one on the software installation cd. They are different versions.Go to Add\Remove, uninstall the exisiting .NET Framework app then do the same with the Disc2Phone software. Reboot if\when prompted.Go to Microsoft's site, download and install the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package here, then reinstall the Disc2phone software.

I use a program called Juice to download Podcasts and today when I went to open it I got the message Error Occured See the Log File Crogram Files\Juice\Juiceexe.log

I'm guessing that it is a hidden file because when I went to Crogram Files\Juice there was no exe.log

How do I get to that file?

I just wanted to add that I figured out how to see the hidden files but that exe.log still doesn't show.

when i try to open this certain program, i keep getting the error message " REGISTRY EDITING DISABLED BY ADMINISTRATOR" . how do i go about enabling my registry editing capabilities?

A:error message when opening a program

here your profile is limited on the normal user privileges.. meaning u cannot install softwares that adds new values to the registry. u need the administrator to add ur account under the security tab of each of the files, regedit.exe and regedt32.exe .. otherwize, see if u can get the local administrator password, login and install the program ..

or maybe a policy, .. start > run > type gpedit.msc and press enter.
expand User Configuration > Administrative Templates >System .. u'll find "Disable registry editing tools" .. if it's enabled, then it's active. u can change it to disabled.

I tried opening a program from C:\Program Files then this error popped up.

Maybe my registry cleaner has caused the problem http://www.regsofts.com/free_registry_repair/registry_repair.htm

A:Error when opening C:\Program Files

Do you have Google Toolbar or Yahoo! Toolbar installed?

EDIT: Also, for a temporary fix, don't view in Thumbnail or Slideshow view. It postpones it sometimes, but not always.

I've found that some people solved the problem by uninstalling seemingly random programs. I've found the most common issue is having 3rd party add-ons enabled in Internet Explorer, which is odd that it would affect Explorer.

Hey guys, I've been having a problem for a while now and i couldn't find a solution to it. I've been getting these errors lately :

(Program Name).exe - Bad Image Error
The Application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\zakupuju.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

When I start up my computer, the login in box appears and after I log in, two of these error messages appear before my icons on my desktop or start menu appears. Then around 15 more error boxes appear before anything starts up (Such as Aim). But after I click "OK" on the error messages all my programs work without a problem. Also, every time I open any program on my computer such as firefox, internet explorer, notepad, paint, ect..the same error message appears. But once again once I click "OK" they work normally.

I read the "NEW INSTRUCTIONS" post and here are the file/info I received from the programs. Also, thank you for the help in advance.

Welcome to TSG

We need to see some additional information about what is happening in your machine.
Please perform the following scan:
Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
DDS.scr
DDS.pif

Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs
1. DDS.txt
2. Attach.txt
Save both reports to your desktop.
The instructions here ask you to attach the Attach.txt.
Instead of attaching, please copy/past both logs into your next reply.

Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.
After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection.
Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

thanks for any help

A:Opening A Downloaded Program Get A Error Message

Hello and to BC

First and foremost about this, have you scanned your computer for Any sort of malware before / after doing this download as it may be infected, Just a thought

Secondly, what type of program are you trying to download, if its a simple program such as an AV , or a free game or something like that, from a trusted site, it should not be giving you an error such as that

if its an older exe file maybe it just won't work with your xp, Just a couple of thoughts to toss out there
Hope to hear from you soon

Hello and I hope someone can help. I looked through quite a few posts but I could not find an exact fit with my problem but I have tried many of the suggestions mentioned in postings that were close to my problem. First of all I am on a Dell Inspiron 600m using MS Windows XP Home Edition 2002 Service Pack 3. My problem occurs when I try opening up one particular program application (QSR NVivo). This is not a new software package and I never had a problem with it before. However the problem began right after I updated my Yahoo tool bar, ran its antispyware and removed what it found. I did check to see if any of what it found seemed related to any certain applications but nothing stood out as anything more than adware and one trojan. So after removing those issues I tried to open my NVivo software which resulted in the stop error: 0x0000008E (0x00000005, 0xF4c6c21D, 0xF17cc7Ec, 0x00000000). At the top of the screen but not in the area where it would identify any drivers it said "Try changing video adapters" (just thought that might be worth including) Anyways, this happens each time now. I did remove the yahoo updates in case that was an issue. Solutions I tried: - Tried the driver reset tool but it showed nothing wrong. - Tried a system restore but for some reason there were no restore points available. - Windows Memory Diagnostic. I downloaded the necessary files onto a bootable CD through my NERO software but the diagnostic never ran and only opened up a DOS ... Read more

I have a host of problems with my computer that I was hoping could be solved. I keep getting the Bad Image popup every time I open a program/start my computer.

I also can't download any of the new versions of internet explorer.

In addition, I can't download any of the windows service packs. And I need the latest one in order to install my Kaspersky anti virus software.

I'm also having problems with my visual settings. I'm not sure if I need a new graphics card or w/e but my screen is very glitchy and I can't adjust the screen resolution settings.

What can I do to fix this problem? It started happening after I did a scan of my computer using McAfee Total Protection Service and told it to clean and delete threats. Any time I open the internet, start a program, open a new window, or start the computer an error message pops up saying
"(Program Name) - Bad Image...the application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\d3dramp32.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

I used Ad-Aware, Ad-Watch, Spybot Search & Destroy, Registry Mechanic, and HiJackThis to try to resolve this issue and nothing has worked. I did a system scan and saved log file on HiJackThis and the results are as follows...

Recently, I have been getting an odd pop-up error anytime I open a program. The box appears with (for example) "firefox.exe - Bad Image" in the title bar, followed by the following message: "C:\PROGRA-1\Google\GOOGLE-3\GO36F4-1.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support." This happens anytime a new program or service is started (I see one right before I enter my login password, at least 10 of these once I have logged on). However, except for the annoying pop ups, the computer and whatever I try to run (so far, anyway) works normally. The program I am trying to open runs once the pop up is closed. AVG and sfc have found nothing (The file name being mentioned makes me suspect some form of malware that AVG can't catch), and I'm open to suggestions.I'd like to send whatever this is packing, and a big thank you in advance to whoever can point me in the right direction. Here are my DDS (I saw at least 50 of those "Bad Image" errors during the DDS scan, which was otherwise successfully completed) and GMER logs, in that order: (I'll gladly provide any other information that I can if needed).DDS (Ver_11-03-05.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Tony at 12:52:19.49 on Sat 05/07/2011Internet Explorer: 9.0.8112.16421Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 6.1.7600.0.1252.1... We lost power to our computer one day last week and it hasn't worked properly since. Ad-aware would not open so I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Somewhere during the installation process it freezes up and I get an error message saying it needs to close. When I try to open already installed programs I get an set up error that says error writing application data. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling those programs also with the same result. hi guys iv just joined techguy as i have a very annoying problem that i have.

every time i try and open a new program or window, a message comes up:

for example when opening firefox

firefox.exe - Bad Image
C:\Windows\System32\ctl3dv232.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact you system administrator or the software vendor for support.

this has been happening for a couple of days now, i started when norton sercurity detected a trojan horse. it seemed to delete it (im not 100% sure) but every since then i have been getting this message. it even appears before the log in screen on vista, and as i turn off my computer.

i read a little bit on the internet and thought that norton could have damaged some of the files on my computer. i downloaded CCleaner to clean the registry integrity, which includes missing dll files, but nothing has changed. my computer came preinstalled with vista, so i dont have a disc to insert and try and restore any damaged files(if thats what happened).

i would greatly appreciate any help as to what is causing this and how to solve it.

Hi

I have just purchased a small digital camera that came with Ulead PE 3.0.

I went through the installation wizard for this software and it seemed to install correctly.

The icon for PE3.0 now appears on my desk top however when I double click on it I receive the following message:
IPE30 this program has performed an illegal operation and will shut down.

I check the 'details' of this error message and it says:
IPE30 executed an invalid instruction in module U32COMM.dll at 015f:4a10a40d.

Does anyone know what I have done wrong? If I need to uninstall and reinstall the software - how do I go about doing this?

Thanks

Also every time i want to use a program i get the bad image error. If i close the error then the computer continues what it doing just fine but there really annoying.
an example of the error says :

now its always guyukelo.dll but the name of the bad image ex; firefox.exe is just about anything i try and access from rundll32.dll to any program on.
now im not 100% sure if this is malware or just something broken in my comp. but i googled guyukelo.dll and my search said it might be malware. I cant seem to get rid of the pop ups. Ive run AVG, SAS and Malwarebytes anti-malware and i still have the popups.

Ive run and will attach to this My gmer log, a hijackthis log. I couldnt get the dds.scr to work im not sure if AVG, SAS or malwarebytes blocks scripts but when i double click on the .scr i get the do i want to run this window when i say run it opens it with notepad and notepad is just a bunch of gibberish not sure if im doing something wrong here.

If more info or Im not explaining something well i will try to clarify(my comp talk is not the best )

Every time an executable is opened, a message appears that there is a bad image linked to some Google dll. The 100 GB hard drive is also nearly full with about 1/5 of it being taken up by the winsxs folder. I tried my best to follow the instructions on this board and so I'm attaching the logs that I think I'm supposed to. This is my first time, though--I'm a rookie. So...just let me know if I need to provide other information. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide!

Hi, I have been getting an error with alot of the programs That are on my Laptop. Each error is the same, but with a different program name. The error box appears when I start up Windows or open a program. Then the program opens after I click ok.

The error appears in a box and reads:

Iexplore.exe - bad image

windows\system32\d3d10warp32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program using the original installation media or contact administrator or software vendor.

This appears for various programs on my computer. I have installed SuperAnitSpyware to scan for Malware and it came back clean. I am running Norton Anti Virus and have scanned with it too and is coming back clean. I need help. Is this a problem with Vista??????

Windows 7, but I get a bad image error on all start up apps, and when I try to start any program except Chrome browser. I have also found a file in users called wangjihua, which I cannot delete, even in safe mode.
I've tried many antivirus and anti malware to no avail, mostly from a previous resolved similar issue solved by Broni Malware Annihilator

Hello everybody,

My computer has fell victim to the bad image error problem, which seems to be a pretty common problems. I've tried numerous different things to get rid of it, but whatever it is will just not go away on my computer. I've tried numerous different antivirus software, I switched from Norton antivirus to Kaspersky Internet Security, used MalwareBytes numerous times, and plenty of other things, but I haven't been able to get rid of it.

It shows up with anything I open. Anything from Google chrome, Internet Explorer, Notepad, Outlook, Firefox, CCleaner, Windows Sniping Tool, to probably anything else you can think of. It also show up many times at start up where it says setup.exe or startup.exe. Essentially, whatever program you can think of, it's likely causing this to show up. I've tried targeting specific things or uninstalling specific things, but so far this has not worked.

So I come to you guys here hoping for some sort of solution to this because everything I've tried so far hasn't worked.
I recently tried what is outlined in this old thread: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/996193-exe-bad-image-error-windows.html

As you can see from the post it instructs you to run something with registry editor, but that didn't work so then I downloaded HijackThis and did what the guy in that post instructed. When looking for this entry from HijackThis found:

First off...great site! Just when I thought all hope was lost, I stumbled upon this site. It is my sincerest hope that someone can assist me. I am working a very important project and can not proceed until this issue is resolved.

Here goes...on Wednesday night, my PC froze up while the screen saver was running. I did a reboot on my system and allowed it to do its system checks. Upon logging in as administrator, several windows began to instantly pop up. I can only recall the first one whch says "dwm.exe - Bad Image" etc., etc. About seven or eight similar screens continue to pop up. I tried to reboot the system again, but to no avail, the errors are still there. I can't even open any of my other programs such as MS Word, Excel etc. I noticed there were several other similar threads on this site, but found it difficult to follow along. Also, I did not want to run the risk of doing something incorrectly becasue this could be a unique situation. Can someone assist me in resolving this issue as soon as possible?

Hi guy, barneystinson here whaddup? anyways every time it try to load up winamp i get this error message "C:\Windows\system32\NLAapi.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support." This doesn't just happen with winamp but with other programs as well. Anyways, I ran AVG and i found no viruses, i ran command prompt as an admin and ran the check disk utility only to find that it reported there's nothing wrong with my hard drive, i then ran sfc/scannow as an admin in the command prompt, it went up to 48% and this showed up "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them" I then ran Hijack this, here's a copy of the log after the scan.

Okay so Ive had my toshiba satelite A305-s6858 for about 7 months now.. but only a month ago ive started actually using internet on it. It was working totally fine, but now everything I want to open or everytime i want to open a program or file an error message comes up saying," this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set associations file." It shows up for every thing i try opening.Im not very good with computers I mean knowledge wise so i have no idea what this is and what to do about it. Also a few days ago I noticed a mysterious account that just decided to show up on my login screen. I thought one of my family members made it but then i asked and they all said it wasnt theirs. It was a limited account. I deleted it. I wonder if it has anything to do with my issue. Please help me and respond asap. Thank you very very much.

This problem is near identical to the problem posted here.

*

On opening a programme this error message appears:

"File.EXE - Bad Image
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\csqybr.dll in not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

On clicking OK [the only option other than the top-right X] this error message appears:

"FILE.EXE - Bad Image
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\totemoze.dll in not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

After clicking OK on this error message the programme does appear to open and run normally [albeit slower than before].
Originally only one of these error messages used to appear on opening any programme (sorry but I cannot remember which one [if it even was one of the two posted – though it definitely was in the same format).

Booting up is obviously quite a pain as you have to click these away for every programme that starts up.

*

As mentioned at the start my problem is quite identical to one previously solved, right down to the problems getting the programmes SDFix and ComboFix to run. Following the instructions given in that thread I then tried to download “WinPFind3U.exe” however I could not find it. Please may I be advised how to proceed?
Thanks in advance,
MJL

So awhile ago I posted a thread about a bad image error, and a moderator helped me clear things up. It was all good until probably 2 months ago, and I've put up with it until now.

"C:\Windows\system32\pnrpnsp.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support," error appeared when I attempted to to open Windows Live Messenger. A similar error also appears when I try to open League of Legends. It also occurs every time I try to stream a live video from youtube, or some other sites.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have Windows Vista 64b, service pack 2. When I go to start up my laptop I get this error message:

"LogonUI.exe - Bad Image

C:\Windows\system32\xmllite.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or software vendor for support."

I click okay, and it's just a black/blank screen after that. I mean, I can see the cursor, but that's it. And it doesn't do anything.

I WANT TO MAKE IT ABUNDANTLY CLEAR THAT I CANNOT GET TO MY DESKTOP. I am presently using a friend's computer. My computer cannot get to the desktop. Once the error message shows up, and you click "okay" that's it. It does nothing else.

I can't get into safe mode. Period. The only way I can get to the command prompt is through the F8>Repair Your Computer>Command Prompt way. And when I try to do the "sfc/scannow" thing, it tells me that I can't do it because I have a pending system repair. Most likely that means that it can't do the scan now function while in the "Repair Your Computer" mode.

I've tried doing several system restores, but with no success. I get this error message:

Firstly, I'd just like to say that I'm a complete novice when it comes to fixing computer problems like this so I'd really appreciate it if you could explain what to do in layman's terms!

I have a Toshiba with Windows Vista and lately I keep getting a window come up with this message every time I try to open up a new programme or window. This is the message I get when I open Google Chrome for example:

Im getting this image on my dads laptop and I cant load anything it says that every time I click on a program and I even tried plugging in a jump drive with the version.dll library on it so I could put the new version of that file on his pc but it wont even let me open anything on jump drive without saying same message and I tried doing this in safe mode too and same thing happens. Any ideas?
Also I did try system restore point from like may and one from the day before this all started happening on his computer and it didnt fix it either.

I had a friend suggest i would recommend buying a second hard drive, installing the OS on that fresh, then mount the original drive and copy files off it
if you don't care about the files, just format and be done with it but I was hoping it would be an easier then that. Any help would be most appreciated, thanks.

Hi,

I am using Windows Service Pack 3 and everything was working fine, but today when I opened a DOS file second time, I got an error " Another program is currently using this file". And it continues for every DOS file. Even I tried to open them in command prompt, but even there I am getting the same error.

Can you please help me for this as I have to use DOS files many times a day.

Thanking you.

I downloaded the HJT Software and run a scan, so I got a log file which is attached herewith.
Hope anyone will guide me further.

Sorry, your post is not clear. When you say 'opened a Dos file' what do you mean? Do you mean 'RUN a Dos PROGRAM'? And why do you say 'second time' ?

Hello all.

I'm posting for a friend who is having a problem installing Windows Vista 5308 onto his eMachines T3092. First, here are his specs:
1.3 gHz AMD Athlon 3000+
nForce 2 Motherboard
1024 megs of RAM (upgraded from 512)
GeForce4 MX Integrated Graphics (he told me that he also had tried using an AGP GeForce2 MX card)

Here is the problem. He has taken out his good hard drives (2 160 gigs) and replaced them with a Dell 40gig hard drive that he had taken out of one of his other computers. He formatted the Dell drive prior to installation. He boots up the computer and presses a key when it says "press any key..." and it goes to Windows is Loading Files. This lasts for about 5 minutes or so (not too bad) and then the crystal background comes up after a while. For at LEAST 30 minutes, only the crystal background appears. He can move the mouse around, but there is nothing to click on. The light on the DVD drive showing that it is reading the DVD goes on and off for these 30 minutes. After this time, it finally comes up with the Installation screen. He clicks Install Now and another 10 minutes pass for starting installation. Then, he types in his CD Key and clicks Next. After about 15 seconds or so, it comes up with the error:
An Internal error occurred while displaying the image selection wizardClick to expand...

He tried it several times, he burned it to 2 other DVDs. It is currently on a DVD-R, a DVD+R, and another DVD+R burned at 1x. Yet nothing works. Al... Read more

A:Vista 5308 Installation: Internal Error - Image Selection Wizard

Vista will NOT work in a virtual machine, unless he has the trial VM that is only available to MS employees and a few other 'trusted' people.
The DVD drive is NOT the problem. If he has a problem and is a registered beta tester, he already has the correct route for reporting it directly to the beta test team, who will give advise.

Hello TechSupportForum,

I am pretty certain my Windows XP PC is infected with Malware.

I set up my home PC with gotomypc so I could use it while staying abroad for an extended stay. Things were working fine until several weeks ago when the computer started displaying continuous Bad Image error messages. An example of a recent message is as follows:

"Jre-6u15-windows-i586-iftw.exe - bad image. "The application or DLL C:\windows\system32\ATL.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

I now get such error messages on just about every program I launch. This error prevents me from running any malware scanning software. (Tried running Malwarebytes and Superantispyware--both failed to launch).

Avira antivirus has not given me any virus warnings, however, I cannot perform any scans with it since this problem started happening. It just hangs when I try running a manual scan, yet it apparently continues to run in the system tray and download virus updates.

I can only access the pc via gotomypc for now.

Is it possible to disinfect the PC by accessing solely via gotomypc?

My DDS log is as follows and ARK.txt file and Attach.txt files are in the attach.zip file attached to this message.

Thanks in advance...

whenever i right click on a file and go to 'open with' and click on 'choose default program', i get get the following error below:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel."

now i am an experienced user and i am in the IT field but for the life of me i cant figure this one out. the following are some examples of file types, avi, jpeg, mpeg, txt, etc...
these files do indeed open fine with the program i have set as the default program for these files. they are also properly associated in the default programs option in vista. I sometimes for one reason or another want to open a file with a different program which is why i go to 'open with' but i dont want to have to continue to keep changing my default programs to open files.
now i have gone in the registry and manually added some of the programs to the open with context menu for some of the file extensions but i dont want to do this for all of them.
i suspect that there is some corrupt/missing dll file or reg key some where but i have yet to track it down.
everything else runs fine. vista runs great except for this 1 problem. if anyone knows a fix or even the location of the dll/reg key/file that may be corrupt then i would greatly appreciate it.
i do have backups that i can use to restore the corrupt/missing files if needed.

I'm trying to install this free utility "Windows Sysinternals" on my daugther's laptop that I've been using for quite some time on my home computer. http://www.technet.microsoft.com/en-.../bb963902.aspx. It works great with Windows XP. My daughter's laptop is a Dell Inspiron 640m with Vista install. I have no problem with the intallation and opening the program once it's installed. Then I go to the "Logon" tab in the program to see if some of the software can be removed from the startup menu. When I right-click one of the items on the list and click "search online" I get the following error message. "A previous install did not complete correctly. Finishing install." I've tried deleting the software and reinstalling and that doesn't work. I still get the same error no matter how many times I do it. I'd really like to be able to use this program to remove unneeded programs running in the background that are eating up valuable computer resources. Can you please help?

Hi Everyone,

Today, everytime I open anything on my computer, whether it be a file or software, I keep getting this pop-up that blocks me from continuing. The pop-up says the following:

For example when i open Firefox
The application or DLL c:\WINDOWS\system32\gjoyro.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.
and
he application or DLL c:\WINDOWS\system32\sohlgd.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

I am an amateur when it comes to computers, and have read several forums that suggested i
run SFC /SCANNOW
I have attempted to do so with no result. I did not get any notification that it had completed of if everything was still intact.

I have also ran Spybot, Telus Security, and PC tools antivirus and no viruses are found.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Thanks.

Okay, you know when you double click an image file on your computer to open it, you get a list of icons at the bottom of the screen. One of them (second to last icon on the right) says "Closes this program and opens open the image for editing (Ctrl E)" if you hover your cursor over it.

Normally, when I click it, it opens in Microsoft Office Picture Manager. And I want it to always open in this. But lately, it's been opening in Paint instead. I know I can right click the file and go "Open with...", but how do I change this problem so that when I click that icon, it'll always open in Picture Manager?

Many thanks.
