A: Audio files playing with no programs running

I'm unfortunately somewhat computer illiterate, so bear with me as I try to break down the issue I'm encountering.

I use an online database called Verint Impact 360 to gather audio files from a company's call center. I have the Verint codecs (VerintCodecs.exe) installed on my Windows PC which allow me to play the audio files using Windows Media Player. However, when I try to open the files using a customized program designed by my company, I'm unable to play the calls.

We had an IT member that found a way to convert the calls into a usable format with OpenOffice Spreadsheet by renaming the files. Unfortunately, he's since left the company, and I was unable to determine how he was able to convert the calls.

So, I guess my question is: Is there some way to embed the codec into the call file so that it could be played on other platforms?

Summary: -The calls are in .wav format -I have installed on the computer VerintCodecs.exe -I can only play the audio files in Windows Media Player (I've tried on the customized program and VLC, neither of which work)

I would greatly appreciate if someone could give me some guidance.

A:Solved: Playing audio files that require a codec in programs other than Windows Media

If VLC will not play the files, then they are not the usual format of a .wav file
However, playing WAV files on VLC is rather effortless. That’s because VLC comes equipped with the digital programming that instructs it how to handle data sent via the WAV format. Here’s a step-by-step procedure for playing WAV files on the VLC.
1) After you have downloaded and installed the VLC player, open the VLC media player.
2) The VLC media player will display on your screen. On the menu bar, click on “Media.”
3) A drop-down window appears. Click on “Open File” and navigate to the location of the WAV file.
4) Click on the file in the “Select one or more files to open” window or once you are in the folder that the file is located in, type the name of the file in the “File name” window.
5) Click on the “Open” button. The file will load and the VLC media player will begin playing it automatically.

In Mac OS Quick time does this (I can have 10 audios all playing simultaneously). WMP nor VLC seem capable of this.

I need a solution to this for both Linux/ubuntu and Windows 7. Maybe there's a way to customize vlc or wmp?

Thanks.

So, recently, I've noticed that SOMETIMES, audio ads will be playing in the background, with my computer running no programs. Knowing this was the work of a foul program, I immediately did what anyone would do; turn to their scanner. I won't lie; I'm running MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) and MBAM, so my defenses were not all that they could be.

So, I ran full scan from MSE.
Didn't kill it.

Then, I ran Mbam full scan.
Didn't kill it.

So, I decided to run Combofix, which apparently, is rumored to be like, the atom bomb of Anti-Foul-Programming, which destroyed Mal-Spy-Ad-Ware, asplodes rootkits, and smothers worms.
(And this didn't kill it.)

I thought that I might've just ran combofix wrong, and of course, there is a good chance I did. But after CF rebooted me, I did a hard reboot, and restarted in Safe Mode, and ran CF again. This still did not kill the sucker.

Ran CF a THIRD time, after learning that CF has to be ran from the desktop, but even then, I still had ads playing.

Now, when I say 'SOMETIMES', I mean that the ads seem to start and end at random times. I might not have ads until 30 minutes after logging on, they play one ad, and then I don't hear another for five more minutes. OR, I might log on, and have audio ads playing the entire time I'm on the computer.

I hope someone on here can help me solve my problem.

Hey guys, ongoing issue for about a month now.

Randomly programs will just not play audio, while every other program plays just fine, even new programs opened immediately following a program that failed to have audio.

This includes but is not limited to, games (Path of Exile, League of Legends), VOIP (Skype, Discord), and websites (Twitch, Youtube).

The only way to remedy it for the instance that it occurs is to restart the Windows Audio service or close and reopen the offending program. However these are both undesirable solutions given the side effects they can cause depending on the programs running.

Nothing particularly noteworthy happened around the time it started happened. Perhaps it was in relation to updating Logitech Gaming Software (which has since been uninstalled and am using windows drivers as of now).

All audio drivers not relating to my current setup (Realtek, LGS, NVidia High Def, etc) have been uninstalled, but it doesn't hurt or help the problem. Also, I'm running on Windows 7.

EDIT: I have also recieved this message twice: "windows must now restart because the dcom server process launcher service terminated unexpectedly"
and this one once: "windows must now restart because the plug and play service terminated unexpectedly"

Welcome aboard Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your Desktop. There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully. If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.Do not reboot until instructed. If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode. When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.Post it in your next reply.NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.

I am attaching a HJT log. I would much appreciate some help with this as I have no idea what else to do.

This problem occurred yesterday and I find it rather strange. Don't know if it has anything to do with installing Aimp3, but it happened after its installation.

The sound coming from speakers is clearly a radio and it is heard just enough so you know it's there, I'm not running any programs or have and cd-s that would make that sound. I have checked the system with adwcleaner_4.102, and nothing happened. Same thing with my Avast antivirus. After rebooting the system the sound remains, therefore I shut down the entire machine and the sound was still coming through speakers (WTF?!). And I notice that if I unplug the speakers, the radio sound stops...but while the computer is turned off and with speakers plugged in, the radio sound is hearable.

I will post a hijack scan so it might come useful.
Any help is welcome

This has happened to me twice in the past three hours.
I'm aware my dad opened some attachment to an email he shouldn't have.
I cleared all that out via Mcafee/Ad-Aware/Registry Mechanic.

But now there's random intervals of what sounds like a canadian radio station lasting about 5 minutes.

Here is my HJT scan thingy.
I have no idea what to do with it?

Anything is appreciated, thanks. :]

Hi. At this point i'm just curious what BS is behind this. Asus P5N-Deluxe Quad2Core 2.8 16gb DDR2 800 BFG GTX 280 Vista Ultimate 64 Enough space left on all drives I have a pretty decent machine. I have 16 gigs ram and its pretty rare that i use up all of that ram at once. Yet every once in a while I go to watch a video on my computer and i get "Your computer is running low on memory. Quit other programs, then try again." --seems laughable The behavior is that the video plays, but there is no audio (WMP) - But it will also not have audio in VLC or anything else - basically its like the issue is universal and the only way i can watch any video with any audio is by rebooting my system. It doesn't matter if i free up tons of ram (trying with 12 open right now, and no go). Its constant until i reboot. Does anybody know what this is and how to get rid of it?

Good morning

Recently had some malware/spyware problems that I thought I had cleaned up but have had persistant problems ever since. Most noticibly I get constant audio adverts playing in the background at odd intervals. These appear to be linked to iexplore.exe as the audio stops when ever I end the process in task manager. However, they pop back up again in task manager a few seconds later. I rarely if ever use internet explorer but these exe files are showing up regardless.

Not sure where to begin so hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance.

I have a laptop that since this weekend has random audio playing from the speakers anytime it is connected to the internet. There appears to be no applications running in the background. It only plays when connected to the internet. Under "Volume Mixer" I see a "Name Not Available" that seems to be the sources of the audio. Neither MBAM and Kaspersky TDSS found anything at all. I have a current DDS log and a GMER log if you would like to see them.

I've inspected all of the startup items and all running processes and can't spot the culprit. In searching around on BleepingComputer it seems a few others have had the same thing in the last couple of weeks and that it was a rootkit.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I am having this problem that I'm sure is related to Limewire. Shortly after installing Limewire and downloading a few things, I noticed that the PC started playing random audio out of the speakers. It lasts only for a few seconds. It is a different audio sample each time...sometimes a clip of a song, sometimes an advertisement for something. I ran my anti-spyware and anti-virus program and everything is showing up clean...even in safe mode. I even ran additional spyware programs just to make sure. I am using:

NOD32 for anti-virus
Spyware Doctor for anti-spyware

I even ran spybot and AVG just to make sure. They only found cookies. This is driving me nuts. I have since removed limewire and the files I downloaded using it. I thought it might be something that changed a file under the sound profile, but I don't think that's it because the audio is happening even when the PC is idle. This is the strangest thing that has ever happened to my PC. I checked a prior post of someone on this site with a similar problem, but it got off topic because he had other things wrong also. Please help!

Yesterday my computer all of a sudden decided to restart while browsing the web. When it started back up it began playing what sounds like multiple radio stations playing over top of each other. It's extremely annoying and quite creepy. I've ran quick scans with MalwareBytes and turned up nothing. MalwareBytes also keeps blocking svchost from connecting to a malicious address.

I'm sure I've got some kind of rootkit/bootkit/whatever. I'm actually pretty experienced with computers. I've been building them for 15 years or so. I sell custom built PCs and do some virus removal and IT work. I've never seen anything quite like this. I am really close to just wiping and reinstalling Windows. But I just put a new SSD in this laptop less than a month ago and am barely getting set back up from that. I'm thinking maybe I can learn something from the awesome people here and get back to safe operation.

I very much appreciate any help that can be offered!

Just a few days ago my audio player(s) stopped functioning - when I put in a CD and select a player, it opens for a second then closes immediately ('doesn't matter whether it's WinMP or RealPlayer or whatever); clicking on a previously-functioning audio file has the same result.

In the last week I've downloaded and installed two programs, Gadwin PrintScreen 3.1 and BitDefender 9 Standard (trial mode.)

System: AMD Athlon CPU, Asus A7N266-VM motherboard, 256MB DDR RAM, 4GB HDD.

I'm unable to play any audio file using WMP9, Crystal Player & Ulead video editing software.

When I try to open an mpeg file with Crystal, I get a message 'can't init directsound for playing audio'.

When I use WMP9 or Ulead, the video file plays without any sound. WMP9 does not play any audio file - MP3, Wav either from the HDD or the CDRom player. I'm able to play CDs thru my LG CDRom player.

WMP9 gave me the following report :
0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation.
You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000

How I can fix this problem?

Thanks

A:No audio when playing video files

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Go into your device manager, and check to see if there are any yellow exclamation or question marks next to your audio devices.

You could also try reinstalling the drivers for your sound device.

If you`ve got onboard sound then you will need to go to your mobo manufacturers website, and download the latest drivers from there.

If on the other hand, you`ve got a seperate soundcard, then go to the soundcard manufacturers website, and download the drivers from there.

I have a part-time job where I work from home; it basically involves listening to audio clips embedded in a Javascript application on a website. The people who support it are short on technical skills. When I told them I was using IE8 and Windows 7 they scattered like roaches when you turn on the light. All they could do was parrot the party line that the recommended platform is 32-bit Windows XP and IE7; if I use anything else I am totally on my own. So that's why I'm here. When someone tells me something can't be done I know it's time to turn pro.

I've managed to do quite a bit on my own, but I'm still not quite there. I've gotten their site to run, up to the point where the Windows Media Player embedded in the browser tries to play the .OGG files. After that nothing happens; there is silence and the media player progress bar for the audio clip does not move. There are no error messages.

I'm thinking the problem may have something to do with the OGG codec. I downloaded and installed a Win 7 codecs package that included support for OGG Vorbis. The standalone Media Player will now play standalone .OGG files. The problem seems to be with the embedded Media Player in IE8 playing the OGG clips from the Jvascript application on the website.

I did manage to wrestle out of the tech support people that they have had a lot of problems with IE8 on all platforms; I seem to be one of the very few users that is able to use their site with IE... Read more

If I right click on a wav or mp3 and then click "properties", it starts playing but not in Windows Media Player which is what they are associated with. I can open task manager and find two copies of Explorer.exe in processes. If I terminate the second one in the list, the wav or mp3 stops.

I've checked everything I know to check in associations and I can't find a hint of what's wrong.

Any ideas?

In the last couple of days or so, my computer has had advertisements playing in the background with no programs running what-so-ever. I've tried a few programs to no avail. Norton Antivirus wasnt able to pick up anything, nor has Malwarebytes or Kaspersky's TDSSKiller. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Don't kill me, I didn't know quite where to post this...

I just downloaded an album from overnet in RAR format.
Tried extracting it with WIN RAR and ZIP GENIUS.

WINAMP & Media player 9 wont play it, and NERO 6 wont burn it.

Have I wasted my Dial up time, or am I missing something??
(no smart comments unless theyre funny)

A:Playing & burning audio RAR files? STUCK!

Downloading albums off overnet is considered piracy & therefore should not be discussed here.

If you happen to own the CD, rip it to your HDD & save your modem the hassle of downloading it.

Hello there! Here's the problem. Occasionally, and usually for 3-5 minutes, random audio files will play when nothing is open to play them. The audio also happens to be mostly advertising. I assumed a virus, so I have already run a full system virus and rootkit scan with Avira. Avira didn't find anything. Restarting the computer causes the audio to stop for about 10-15 minutes. Can anyone help me?

Here is a little problem that someone with experience in software might like to help me with. I have been running MS Bookshelf 95 ever since it first came out. It's audio has functioned correctly through all the O/S system changes e.g., Win 98, ME, XP and Vista.
Now in the latest event, My old computer, which was running Windows Vista Home Premium Crashed from drive problems. I purchased a new computer with Windows Vista alreadly loaded on it. Now the audio in Bookshelf 95 will no longer play. I did some research on MS Knowledge base and found an item frow may back which said that in the Win.ini file the [mci extensions] portion of he Win.ini file had to have the file types set, e.g. wav=waveaudlio, and etc for midi and etc. Well the Win.ini file on my new computer did not have those file types set. I went to the file which resides on my C: drive under C:\Windows\Win.ini and opened it and typed in the appropriate settings under [Mci extensions. When I tried to save the file with the changes, the O/S would not let me. The Win.ini file is attached.
Final clinch: Windows Media player will play the wav files in bookshelf if I open it and go to where the files are stored in a file labeled BOOKS on C:\BOOKS. This was done just to rule out the possibility that my audio drivers/codecs might be bad. The were not. So the problem is why isn't the bookshelf program: Program Files\AAMSTP32\APP32\BS9532.EXE"
Finding the wav files and executing them and why can't I chang... Read more

I am trying to play Spotify files sitting on my Asus netbook through my Sony hifi system

When I try to connect using a standard 1/4'' stereo cable the sound is terrible with the vocals barely audible on the tracks
I am using the headphones socket on my netbook and connecting to the audio in jack on my hifi.

I am tempted to think it may be the audio driver on the netbook which is Realtek at present

Can anyone help ? I have lots of Spotify playlists which sound awful at the moment

Adjust the volume...likely much lower. Standard audio gear uses a standard line level audio signal which is very low level signal.

Hello,

I am working on the Windows XP OS, and recently had to fight off a couple of Downloader virus infections. Since then, my computer keeps playing random audio files that I have never downloaded onto my computer, mostly ads for something, and at one point, the beginnning of a baseball game. CPU activity spikes when the files are played, but there is no way to stop them, and no visible reason they'd be playing (I won't even have a browser up when they play). I've tried using msconfig to keep things I don't recognize from starting up, but that doesn't appear to be the problem. Google searches for the same problem haven't turned up anything helpful, and now my computer is also turning up a lot of popups, even when my browser is not open (yes, I do have cable Internet).

I think it's a virus, but I've run several virus and malware/spyware programs (PC Doctor, Spybot, several antivirus programs, including Norton), and nothing is catching it. Any ideas on what this is and how to fix it?

I've gone through the five steps and posted my Panda ActiveScan and Deckard/Hijack This logs below. Thanks for any help you can give me!!

Whenever i play an audio file in media player, media player becomes very slow and unresponsive. i have also discovered it is using between 90-99% of my cpu usage while playing audio files. if i use another media player (ie winamp) i do not have this problem, but i prefer to use media player. n e suggestions???

A:Windows Media Player 10 playing audio files

you can roll it back to wmp9 in add/remove-windows componets and delete the wmp10 install file. then redownload it. but you may have some conflict or it could be just a bad file. i like 9 better then 10 anyway.

I use a laptop with Windows XP Home Edition, service pack 3. A couple of days ago I started having problems playing video and music files that have worked fine before. Windows Media Player 11 would give the me the error message;

"Your computer is running low on memory. Quit other programs and then try again"

As well as not giving any sound. I wasn't actually running any other programs at the time and the memory wasn't running low, so I tried playing the file in Media Player Classic. No error message, but also no sound. Although sometimes WMP11 doesn't display that message, but still plays the file with no sound.

With music files WMP11 would not give me the error message, but would not play the files either. Having experienced somewhat similar problems before, the first thing I tried was to uninstall and then reinstall the codec pack. However, when trying to reinstall the CCCP, I got the following message;

And a quick search I found out installing to a shorter path name would bypass that, so installed it C:\CCCP and it worked. And it did actually solve the problem, for about a day. But now it's happening again and I have no idea why. I tried the K-lite mega codec pack instead, but it made no difference.

Any ideas? If more information is needed I'll do my best to fill you in.

This article; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/210638

says;

"To disable automatic short file name generation, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type regedt32, and then click OK.
On the Windows menu, click HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE on Local Machine.
Double-click the \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem folder.
Double-click the NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation value, type the number 1 in the Data box, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
NOTE: Existing files using the short name format will still be available to 32-bit programs, but all files created after this change is implemented will be unavailable to older 16-bit programs."

The default value for enabling it is 0 (mine is).

Am Having a couple of problems.
1st- The computer is a Gateway GT5018E with a Pentium D (2.8GHz) and 3 GB of RAM. We have Windows XP Media Center.

The problem is that an audio file started playing about a week ago when we werent even on the computer. I went to the Control Panel clicked on sound and it stopped (do same thing whenver it does this, maybe once every 2 days).

Also, when we do Google search we get normal returns for the search but when we click on one of the returns, it redirects to some other website.
The computer also has problems with booting up. It will just lock up when we boot up and while things look normal we cannot select anything.

I have McAfee antivirus and when we scan it shows one infected file and says it was quarentined but the problems persist.
I down loaded HJT and here is the log.

When I am using Microsoft Office or most programs, everything runs fine. But when I try to run a Video or Audio file, the entire system freezes within about 3 to 10 minutes. I've tried the following:
New video card = nothing
Different Audio & Video players = nothing
Scan for virus or malware = nothing
Check for overheating = system is running cool
Paging is OK
Too many processes? = I don't think so. I've been monitoring them while running both audio and video.

I'm at my wit's end. I've been dealing with this since May. Not sure what else I can do to fix problem.

I recently had to replace my computer with a unit, running Win 7.
My problem is that many of my older programs and files which ran on XP will not run on Win 7.
Especially of concern is Printmaster Gold V 3.0, with which I have many files with "sig" extenders, that won't open , since Win 7 isn't running Printmaster Gold ( neither V 3.0 or Printmaster 15)
Is there a patch or fix that will enable me to run these programs and open their files? Attempting to cotact Broderbund is impossible !

Hello TechSupportForum :)

I am currently having issues with my asus laptop; since two days ago, it has been behaving strange:
1. The files/folders that I used to save on the desktop (under my account, i.e. user) are missing. I can only find some of the program shortcut such as Mozilla Firefox, Nitro Reader, AVG2013, etc.

However, sometimes those shortcuts, when double-clicked, would work and sometimes wouldn't. When would work, the program behaves as if it were the first time I used it, with the welcome screen or tips... When wouldn't work, it pops up a small dialog, stating at the top of the bar: "Windows Security" then at the next part it says: "These files can't be opened. Your internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened." And then there is a link to "Why these files can't be opened?"

When I click the link, it takes me to the Windows Help and support dialog; which shows the setting for the Internet Explorer, such as the zone for local, intranet, etc...

One weird thing about this first issue is that when I look in the C:\windows\Users\User\Desktop ; my files and folders are there. But again, sometimes are okay to open, sometimes aren't.

Like when I chose to save the dds.scr on my desktop, it was saved well...but I wasn't able to locate in the desktop. Then I tried running the file without saving it in the first place, but there was no such option...then I tried changing the default location of downloaded file t... Read more

I usually connect my laptop to my tv to watch video files in VLC. Recently, I have been noticing when I connect my laptop to my TV and play these video files, the audio skips so much that the video is unwatchable. This happens with every video I try to open (mostly MKV and AVI files). However, when I play these video files without the computer connected to the TV, they work fine. Could the problem be my TV or my HDMI cable?

A:Playing video files causes audio to skip when connected to TV via HDMI

In VLC, set a delay between audio or video, or for the mkv's you can demux and adjust them. First, I would update your drivers, is this a laptop or desktop?

So, an old computer. Lately been having some serious problems with it. The most frustrating one, is that all audio from video playback, will hang for about two seconds, every forty seconds or so. This makes all video files unwatchable. I have no idea what to do. I use a USB headset, and figuring that was the problem, unplugged it, and jacked earbuds into the headphone jack. No change. I've updated all driver, run malware and virus scans. All come back clean. The issue does not occur when playing YouTube videos.

Attached zip file contains MSINFO file, and Event Viewer System log, because browsing the forum, those get asked for a lot.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help

A:Intermittent audio hang when playing video files, but not YouTube

Its not a PC sound card problem if it happens with USB headset. When using USB headset you are bypassing the PC's sound card and going digital. The conversion to analog is done inside the headset.

Although sound is affected, its some other PC system problem. The first thing I see is only 2GB of RAM. With only 2GB of RAM you are at real world bare minimum for a 32 bit OS and really pushing it with a 64 bit OS that uses more memory. There is very little left for programs. The only reason to use a 64 bit OS is if you have more than 4GB of RAM.

A:Problems With Files Running, Programs Ets

There could be several reasons for your issues, but it appears that your computer is exhibiting signs of being infected.Usually when the computer crashes you get a blue screen with some cyptic information on it. If that is true in your case please write down what the blue screen says (inlcuding all of the numbers) and tell us here, as we can help you diagnose the cause.Where did you get the music files from? Kazaa? Bearshare? Limewire? Other Peer to Peer sites? Or from friends who got the music originally from these sites? If so, then I would say there is a 99.99% chance you are infected.Usually an infection follows four steps: 1) first you notice buggy behaviour from your computer - you click on an icon and nothing happens - or icons dissapear, etc. 2) The computer is running slower than it used to. 3) Connectivity issues, such as can't get on line, or when you do it works very slowly, or takes to to a wrong web site, or popups occur while connected, etc. and 4) the computer won't even start up.Depending on your level of expertise:There is a forum here at Bleeping Computer for self help, you can find it HERE.Or, for help with removing your infection I would like to refer you to the Highjack This (HJT) forum here at BleepingComputer.com: First: Read the Preparation Guide found HERE. It is very important that you follow ALL of the instructions found within. (There are many important steps in this guide that may clean your computer.) Second: Post your sy... Read more

Today I've been starting up my pc, which has been treated a little roughly lately (overheat yesterday, and today the power randomly went off) and many of my programs are absolutely unable to start.
I always get the following error:
"The procedure entry point normaliz.IdnToUnicode could not be located in the dynamic link library api-ms-win-downlevel-normaliz-l1-1-0.dll."
The error pops up when I try to run e.g. one of the following programs:
f.lux
League of Legends
Adobe Flash Player
Skype

I tried finding help in other forums but I couldn't find anything that would actually work, so I'm quite desperate.
I already tried scanning for disk errors as well as the "sfc /SCANNOW" in the cmd.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

A:Problem with running programs due to .dll files

The "many programs are unable to start" is often a symptom of a corrupted file system -- which can happen due to overheating and/or sudden power off.

IF you can boot into Win7 far enough for it to run, then click on Computer, right-click the drive with problems, select Tools tab, and select Error checking. It will probably ask you if you want this done on a restart. Click Yes and the PC will reboot, and then, you should see text messages on screen while it checks the filesystem.

Sorry to say this, but if it finds a bunch of bad files, you may have to reinstall Windows if those are system files.

I have random audio files playing. I am at work and can't function without the audio right now. These noises play over all other audio files. If it helps I work for Big Brothers Big Sisters! I recently (this week) ((thought)) I removed spyware protect 2009. Today When I was on google looking for help through IE I was clicking on links being redirected to random sites that were all the same I believe it was shopica. I have had no such issues using Mozilla!

So I just downloaded:
Killbox
Hijackthis (hopefully included log as an attachment)
Clean up!
rootkit revealer

I know how to restart in safe mode (should I stay connected when I do?)

I merely downloaded all programs listed I have not set them up in any fashion.

I ripped some audio cds on a Windows 7 pc. The files were somehow assigned random names and folders arbitrarily created. I renamed all the files (lectures) in sequence. When I transfer them to my Galaxy S2, the files again assume random names and are all jumbled (out of sequence). I did this several times.
Thinking about getting a dedicated mp3 player, but budget is pretty tight.

Hello!

I have used your site before for a friend's pc and always greatly appreciate your help. Thank you for your service!

The past couple of days my computer has been playing audio files in the background. It's almost like auditory pop-ups and it seems to start out with one and turn into multiple ads playing in the background.

I haven't downloaded anything new lately. I use the pc for internet, email, Facebook, YouTube, and class.

I did run MS Security Essentials sweep and it found a Trojan and removed it. (I apologize as I forget the name of it.)

Could you please assist me?
Thank you for your time!

A:My programs are running as internet save files please help

It's likely the game you downloaded was infected with malware. Try using system restore to take your system back to a time before you downloaded the game. Here are some instructions- Using Windows 7 or Vista System Restore - How-To Geek Note: You may have to enter safe mode for this to work in your case. Pressing F8 during boot up will bring you the menu where you can enter safe mode.

Hello Community! Please help!

Ever since I had gotten rid of a virus, my computer just won't function properly. A whole lot of problems and weird occurrences like a red X on my internet connection, yet I can still use the internet. I also can't hear any sound whatsoever.
Upon trying to open files it just wouldn't open no matter how many times i clicked, or it would show me an error message to reboot my computer and believe me I tried.
I tried using system restore to get everything back to normal, and yet again, another error message. It says:

'System restore does not appear to functioning correctly on this system
A Volume Shadow Copy Service encountered an unexpected error. Check the application event log for more information.'

I have been having this problem for about a couple of weeks now. I've been trying to just get the sound back at least but no luck there either.
I fear I might have to buy a new Windows 7 installation disk. I wanted to wait till windows 10 updated but i'm almost positive that this problem is going to prevent it from updating.

Hi,

My computer and I are suffering, as indicated in the title, from consistent slow-running, pop ups (often to some of the same sites), windows being taken over in place of pop ups, and the appearance of strange programs and files on the computer. I've run virus scans using TrendMicro (I think that's what it's called) and Symantec, often with files being marked as viruses; those which they cannot clean, quarantine, or delete, I have tried to delete, often with little success (the computer says that programs are using them). I realize that people have been asked to include HijackThis Logs, but I'm not sure what that is; is there a program that I should download in order to participate here? Does it cost money (I'm a poor college student)? Thanks.

Hi

I've been stuggling with this for a few hours now and am at the end of my wits..

I've got two audio devices that I would like to link to my PC at once.
I've got one plug connected to the back panel, and one to the front. But one always cuts off the other. In my sound devices, the system registers them both as: "speakers, VIA High Definition Audio, Standard device"

Is there any way that I can connect them both at once, and still have both of them outputting audio?

I hope the internet will save the day!

Many thanks in advance!

I need some help and not sure what to do next? Seems this problem is common but I can't seem to get it down. I'm far from a expert so please help me...

My dad has a Compaq presario SR5550f w/ Vista 32bit w/ service pack 2 up to date.
When he try's to play audio cd's he get's this message.

Windows Media Player cannot read the CD. The disc might be dirty or damaged. Turn on Error correction, and then try again.

CD player plays only 1 minute and 3 seconds before error-ing out (although still plays DVDs). So, I thought Ok, let me rip his music and he can play off his comp. But when I try to rip audio it's goes about 20% and gives me a read error.

So, I turned on Error correction and nothing.

Seen in a few forums that I should update the drivers.

I uninstalled the burner driver from the device manager and nothing still.

I updated his Nvidia graphics driver just fine but it didn't find any thing for the motherboard?

I also updated his audio driver from the hp website.

So, after all that I thought maybe it's a hard ware issue? So, I changed out this burner for a new one and it still does the same thing?

have tested other cd-rs & retail audio disc. For some reason it's just audio's and ripping?

The other day he watched a whole dvd movie just fine!

I'm gussing it's a driver ... Read more

I noticed that very occasionally, my computer will hang. Nothing will respond, not even Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and the only way out of it is to force a shut down by holding down the power button.

I also noticed that this has always occurred when audio is playing. The audio will loop infinitely once the computer hangs. Sometimes, when I hold down the power button for a while, the system will unhang. Other times it will not.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit SP1
Sound card: Realtek ALC662
I should also mention that the machine is a laptop!

I can't update to the latest Realtek drivers because that causes the sound to start crackling and fizzing really badly (stupid bug). I also don't have any minidumps as the computer doesn't get a BSOD, it just hangs and I have to force shutdown.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem or what I can do to help you solve this problem?

Hello everyone. I am using a old-ish Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. So, every time I'm playing songs on YouTube, then open FL Studio 10, FLS 10 won't let me play or record any audio. When I look at the "ASIO4ALL" box it has A little red "X" on audio output(I use "Realtek HD Audio" if that helps). Now when I stop the internet audio/YouTube and restart FLS 10, the little red "X" is gone and all the sound works... I was wondering how to play Internet audio while playing or recording audio on FL Studio 10 is there something I can tweak with the laptop audio or some better sound program I can download free(or not free)and not have to get a new sound card??? Thank you for your time. Peace.

Please use the font I've changed your post to above. Otherwise, apart from hurting the eyes of the reader, you'll seem to be like shouting.

Recording from youtube, be it whole clips or the audio track, is against youtube's TOS.

Hello,

Starting about a week ago whenever any audio is being played through my computer (speaker or headphone) I will hear a buzzing sound and occasionally the audio with skip. This happens weather I am playing audio that is being streamed from the internet or that is on my computer directly.

I have tried several things to fix this problem including installing all windows updates that are available as well as updating my audio drivers.

I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. My computer model is hp pavilion dv7t quad 6100 and I have IDT high definition audio codec driver version 6.10.6381.0 which my computer says is the latest driver version. Updating to this version has not solved the problem, however.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. If there is additional info that is neccesary, please let me know and I will post it.

A:IDT High Def Audio, buzzing sound when playing any sort of audio.

Unplug the speakers from the PC and see if you still get the buzz with headphones. Some "buzz" problems can be related to "AC power ground loop" problems if some separately powered devices are connected.

Noise and skipping are problems that have been posted here before. There is no "one fix" for that. There are possible hardware problems, drivers (including video drivers), Interrupt issues, Wi Fi caused, etc.

Skipping can be because the other device that is on the shared Interrupt that the sound is on is interrupting the sound. Sound is always on a shared interrupt (IRQ) with a higher priority device. You can try this: go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the IDT and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to uninstall the drivers. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect the sound and reinstall it and some times put it on a different shared IRQ.

in some dual audio movies, i can select one audio file from task bar.

but in some movies, it plays both audio files and i cant see option to change audio either in media player classic or in task bar.

any direct solution except reencoding movie file?

A:some dual audio movies playing both audio

In Media Player Classic I had this with a couple of files. If you use the Haali renderer you can select the sound track from the notification icon in the task bar.

I've been trying to fix my brother's computer for a while, but every Spy-bot and Ad-aware continuously find 60+ bad items and something has recently caused most programs to stop working completely that can be solved with a restart and crossed fingers. Recently a restart brought up a very colorful rendition of the screen that wasn't a good sign as I try to fix the computer. So I turn here. I'm pretty sure I got rid of the 'win antispyware 2005' malware he had running for the longest time. I had ZoneAlarm (deactivates the Windows default firewall) for a long time then had to uninstall it for Medal of Honor:Airbourne which required the windows firewall to be running (to add itself to the allow list). Then I got Jetico Personal Firewall and I've had Avast! On-Access scanner for the entire ordeal. I think that's about everything. Extra.txt is attached.

Edit: I tried the panda activescan. I downloaded the plug-in, but after 1.5 hours of running the scan it remained at 0%. If it's neccessary, I could run it overnight.

Hello All!!

I have seen similar threads here but my problem is slightly different.
I have ASUS P4S8X-MX which have built in audio of Realtek AC'97 .
I am using Windows XP SP2 for quite a time and everything was fine unless i tried to install an updated driver for my sound. After updating, i got Code 10 error , device cannot start.
I uninstalled the drivers, Restart my PC and then installed my previous version of drivers.
Everything was fine and i can see volume icon in task bar. But when i tried playing an audio file there wasn't any sound. I clicked volume icon to raise it but it was disabled.
I double click it to open Mixer .. there are only 3 options (normally it use to have lot ..wave,speaker,etc..) Now it has only Wave , SW Synth, CD Player.. and No recording device.

I did try re-installing the drivers again and again but no LUCK..

I tried using Drivers Sweeper to remove the tracks .. doing that in Safe Mode and then again Installed Old drivers. It all go well but in the end its same situation with sound disabled.

I don't want to reinstall my Windows , is there any way to fix it ?

One thing i noticed is every time I install drivers the sound manager shows up at task bar but in moments it disappears while the soundman.exe is running in Processes and I can't find it in Control Panel as well (where it use to be) .

Its been 8 hours since I am struggling with that. But No LUCK!

Hi muazzam

Is best to upgrade to SP3 (if only because MS has dropped support for SP2) but can start, for now, looking at your problem while you continue running with SP2

Let's start with these initial steps
1) List any Problem Devices

Make sure all your devices are connected and powered on
Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
2) Generate and attach a DirectX report

click Start->Run, enter dxdiag
Notice progress in lower left window corner
When done, click Save Information button and save to your Desktop
In TechSpot, use the paper clip icon to attach the report. (If you don't see icon you may need to first click Go Advanced)
3) If there were no Problem Devices (step 1 above) then also check on your Windows Audio service if Status=Started and StartupType=Automatic

I'll have a look and we can take it from there

Greetings,

New to the forum! I recently installed Win 7 on a second Hard drive. Is it possible to run the programs I had installed on the Vista Hard drive? Both are HD's are still installed.
Thanks,
Brad

A:Running dual Boot w/ Vista and Win 7, question on running programs

You need to install the programs in both OS's, & a licence for each install.

I have installed superanti spyware and that found some stuff to delete, Im quite computer illiterate, the internet is running at about 4 or 5 for speed and it should be 8 according the internet provider, they said everything is fine from their end, however I may have programs running on the computer that shouldnt be and are slowing it down, Im not sure if this is a spyware issue, virus, program not needed? Under the windows task manager the system idle process is 98 under the cpu, everything else is 0, I dont know if that makes a difference?

The past three days, it's happened about twice a day to me. Just at seemingly random times, my currently running programs stop working and attempting to open new programs just results in the program's icon being momentarily highlighted in the taskbar, and then it disappears, as if the program automatically closed itself. This even works for simple programs like Notepad or Paint. Any currently running programs usually crash or stop working. All of my tabs in Chrome will have the pages using Shockwave crash, and attempting to open any new tabs or navigate to new pages will just result in a white screen. The computer is fast and responsive on the desktop (ie, I can open and close the start menu and highlight programs on my desktop with a mouse rollover), and nothing on my computer is frozen, just not working.

This all happens just at one single moment when everything stops working right, and I have to manually shut down the computer, because going through Windows to shut down or log off does not result in anything. Upon startup, everything is back to normal. CTRL+ALT+DEL command results in a black screen with the cursor visible, but nothing happens.

I was recently infected with quite a bit of malware, but as far as I know, I got it all off. I don't know if this is was "malware" or just my computer being a bleep. What do you guys think?

A:Currently running programs stop working, and new programs won't start.

What malware did you find and remove? What did you do to find and remove it? You may not have gotten all of it.

I have an Acer Aspire Laptop 57362-4790 running Win 7 with all the latest updates. Audio is an Intel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI, and Realteck HDMI.

Because I had no headphone output with the computer connected to my TV via the HDMI out I ran the Windows audio trouble shooter. I got a messaage "non standard audio detected" and Windows did something. Now my headphone jack works, but I have no audio on the TV from the HDMI connection.

I've checked both the Intel and Realtime audio controlers and gotten the message, "Device working properly."

I've searched both Intel and Realtime for new drivers and gotten the message, "Best driver already installed."

Opening sound, clicking on playback, clicking on configure, selecting speaker and clicking on test gives test tones out of both the left and right speakers on the TV. Going back to the web, still no sound!

Does anyone have any idea what Windows did and more importantly how do I undo it and get sound back on the TV through the HDMI connection?

Thanks for looking at this story, and any help you can give.

A:No HDMI audio after running Win 7 audio trouble shooter

Use the System Restore function and restore the PC back to a date PRIOR to whatever you did. That should return it to how it was configured. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. System Restore will not delete any user data or emails.

I noticed this issue a little while back. As I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.
A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background.
I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.

I really hope this makes sense.. it's getting frustrating.

A:Two desktops running at the same time. Background programs running.

It sounds like you have a virtual desktop.

This is not something that could 'just happen' in Windows 7. You would need to install a third party program to do this.

So if you did not install anything that might add virtual desktop capability, or this is not a situation where you inherited or obtained this computer from someone else and are not quite sure what is installed on it, then I would suggest first running virus and malware scans to start.

Hi. a while ago I used msconfig to remove some programs that automatically on startup but now I have noticed that close to all of my services and startup programs have stopped loading on startup even though they are all checked in the msconfig window. I have tried rebooting in diagnostic startup but I haven't been able to fix it. I used the admin tools to set some services to run automatically but it doesn't help Steam, Norton, and my other programs to run and many services revert to manual startup. I also cannot run any programs, the only ones that seem to work are norton scan and firefox. Wizards and the system restore tool won't open, I don't know what to do

A:Startup programs not running, programs not opening

Try and use Start up CPL to add the files back to start up

To use start-up CPL

Click Start
>Control panel
>>Double click on 'Start up'

When that is open go through the tabs and add the programs you want to load on start up

A:computer running to slow, to many nothing programs running

Hello and Welcome to TSF

I see nothing malicous in your HJT log but I see you have P2P software installed on your machine (Morpheus). We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to infections.

There are some processes that you do not need running at startup, you can click Start/Run and type in msconfig. Click the start-up tab, here is where you will find everything that is running at start-up and also remove from startup.

Please create a restore point before attempting to stop any processes from running for safety reasons

I am brand new to the forum.

I am running IE 8 on a Windows 7 Professional system.

IE started running invisible audio ads in the background today.

Eventually it seems IE builds up to a critical mass of memory usage and it stalls and i have to restart it.

I can't find any processes in Task manager to kill that stops the ads other than IE itself.

Can anyone assist?

Thanks

Alright well to start this I don't know when it began. Maybe a couple days ago however am not sure exactly how it all occurred. So I am running into a issue with my laptop where it will run certain programs but not others and it is causing some rather large issues with things.

List of Programs that Work (A Very Short List):
Google Chrome
Windows Task Manager
Google Talk
Trillian
Kaspersky Pure 3.0

Programs that Don't Work:
Windows Media Player
Media Player Classic
Steam
Gamestop Now
Apple QuickTime
Apple Itunes
Many others don't work. They crash without ever once showing any sign of launching.

This is a huge issue as I cannot watch any videos on my laptop at all currently and I need to be able to watch videos due to classes.

Steam launches, updates, then crashes when it goes to load the main program. QuickTime and WMP and MPC all show no sign of loading at all and just fail to launch.

I have attached a screen grab of my processes running. Do need some help as this is a HUGE annoyance. I cannot find my re-install disk that came with the laptop so some help would be AWESOME! I might have a restore point from a long time back.

If additional information is needed please say so.

I would also like to note that I did a full system scan. Didn't find anything in the files, system structure, registry or anything else computer was clean.

Note:
I am not computer illiterate and have no issues messing with my system registry if needed to remove something that is running.

A:Programs Crash Upon Running (Not all Programs) Need Help.

One thing for sure, in that picture you have too many instances of Google Chrome running, may be impacting resources available. If Chrome seemed to be actually closed when you did the screenshot it could mean Chrome isn't removing itself from RAM when it is closed.

Hi,
about a week ago I was trying to clean out my mother's computer, I used "Perfect Uninstaller" to remove programs as I was having issues trying to remove "ask.com toolbar". By using "Perfect Uninstaller" I was able to remove programs I found to be unnecessary, however after I was done removing programs, I noticed that I had no audio (Speaker Icon in system tray just shows red "X"", I am also curious if I accidentally deleted necessary Windows 7 services/registry files as my mother's computer is extremely slow.
When I click on the "Speaker red X" icon, the troubleshooting report says (Audio device is disabled) (the audio device you selected is currently turned off in Windows) also (One or more audio service isn't running){Both the Windows Audio and the Windows Audio Endpoint Builder services must be running for audio to work correctly. At least one of these services isn't running.}
I have checked and both Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder services are both running.
I have also checked and re-installed audio drivers and still no audio, I also found a similar post on this website that suggested to download and install the following files from http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/win-services/7/:
AudioEndpointBuilder.reg
Audiosrv.reg
PlugPlay.reg
WcsPlugInService.reg
I download and installed these files but still no audio. So, I downloaded Farbar Service Scanner and the following are the results:

I have 300 mp3 files on my computer. Total size of the directory is 6 Gig worth of mp3's. Currently I have to drag and drop the mp3 files over to Windows Media Player to get the mp3's to play. I want to copy or burn half of the mp3's to a dvd. I want the dvd to start playing or at least to bring up some kind of menu when the dvd is inserted into a player. How do I burn the mp3 files to a dvd so the mp3 files will start playing from a dvd automatically?

What kind of MP3 takes up 20Mb?
An MP3 DVD should Auto Play without any additional steps-check your auto play options. (Play using WMP).
Is this folder monitored by WMP? There should be no reason to drag an drop.

Win 8 seems to have made it more difficult not easier! I can't make heads or tails out of the instructions to create a network that will allow access to files back and forth between my Win 8 Desktop and my XP driven LapTop. Would you direct me to a simple step by step process describing how to do what I am trying to accomplish?

A:How to share files on Desktop running Win 8 from Laptop running XP

Short description for Windows 7 and 8 file and printer sharing:

Go into the Network and Sharing Center from the Control Panel or from the Network icon in the Notification Area. Your network must be designated 'Private' (or 'Home' or 'Work'). Click on Change advanced sharing settings. In the Private or Home or Work section you can configure File and printer sharing, Public folder sharing, and Password protected sharing.

You may want to change the Workgroup name. To check it or change it right click on "Computer" and select "Properties."

You must uninstall or properly configure any non-windows firewall (security suite).

A wizard way to enable file and printer sharing on XP:

Run the Network Setup wizard (found in Control Panel of XP). Tell it each of your computers connects to the internet via "residential gateway" and that you want to enable file and printer sharing. Create a disk at the end only if you have a PC with Windows ME or Windows older than ME.

Windows XP firewall (if SP2 or SP3) will be properly configured by the wizard (but make sure it is not set to “No Exceptions&#8221. You must uninstall or properly configure any 3rd party firewalls on each machine. Unique computer names and same workgroup, of course.

The Shared Documents folder is automatically shared. Any other folders (or drives) or printers you want to share, just right click on them and sharing ... . When sharing a printer, acce... Read more

I've actually already seen this problem handled here, and while trying to follow of the solutions realized that I might need some personal help. The computer already had a lot of assorted malware that has been (mostly) dealt with with Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D scans, though this problem presists (also, a "MyPC Backup" PUP that's yet to go away as the files that need to be deleted are always in use apparently). My main concern though is the audio issue. It plays sounds from what I assume are ads, before I even have the chance to launch Firefox (I thought it could've just been an ad or hidden pop up window at first). The only thing I've been able to connect it to is the "Name Not Available" option in the audio mixer, which muting causes it to stop, though I'd rather eliminate the problem completely than just muting it and pretending that it's not there. DDS Log: DDS (Ver_2012-11-20.01) - NTFS_AMD64Internet Explorer: 9.0.8112.16421 BrowserJavaVersion: 10.45.2Run by sheila at 18:26:02 on 2014-01-05Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 6.1.7601.1.1252.1.1033.18.3032.791 [GMT -6:00].AV: Avira Desktop *Enabled/Updated* {F67B4DE5-C0B4-6C3F-0EFF-6C83BD5D0C2C}SP: Avira Desktop *Enabled/Updated* {4D1AAC01-E68E-63B1-344F-57F1C6DA4691}SP: Windows Defender *Enabled/Outdated* {D68DDC3A-831F-4fae-9E44-DA132C1ACF46}.============== Running Processes ===============.C:\Windows\system32\lsm.exeC:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe -k DcomLaunchC:\Windows\sy... Hello, Zorbis.
My name is etavares and I will be helping you with this log.

Here are some guidelines to ensure we are able to get your machine back under your control.

Please do not run any unsupervised scans, fixes, etc. We can work against each other and end up in a worse place.
Please subscribe to this topic if you have not already done so. Please check back just in case, as the email system can fail at times.
Just because your machine is running better does not mean it is completely cleaned. Please wait for the 'all clear' from me to say when we are done.
Please reply within 3 days to be fair to other people asking for help.
When in doubt, please stop and ask first. There's no harm in asking questions!

Step 1

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

If you are using Windows 8 consult How to use the Windows 8 System Recovery Environment Command Prompt to enter System Recovery Command prompt.

If you are using Vista or Windows 7 enter System Recovery Options.

To enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:

Restart the computer.
As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
