Q: Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2 OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7

Hi,
I have just deleted @BIOS because I just read where it has no known benefit, I did this because my system is running is slow .

In Facebook the settings have altered so I cannot access the title part of frames to click on or the bottom of friends list to see the content,

Also the pages in general have this stupid advertising called Discovery that keeps coming up across the bottom of page

Also there is advertising that keeps coming up over the images of items for sale, this is adverting similar items
Can you please advise how best to get rid of this unwanted advertising and correct other issues please.
Thank you

I have an HP Pavilion Laptop, Windows 7-64bit.
My WMP11 does the following:
1. It clones music titles...even in front of my eyes.
2. Music files disappear.
3. Titles are now assuming wrong names even though content remains.
4. My music files come from my Music Library. Those have not changed or cloned..

5. I deleted WMP11 and re-installed...but all the above errors returned.
6. My Library files are skewed. Music is mixed with Video and with Documents and all around. Why? I dunno.
7. My music library is around 25GB; but it changes with the losses mentioned in #2 above.
8. I tried RealPlayer but their format leaves a lot to be desired by me. Also, it keeps requiring Flashplayer and no matter how many time I download it, it asks for it again.
9. I am 80 years old, not very computer savvy and I'm blessed with Parkinsons. Music is my hobby.
10. HELP.....PLEASE!

Help been receiving messages to compress my email. I use outlook express. I do not have a lot of email on the laptop I am using - what i have is `specialist'.

Have used aol for over 5 years. Up 2 years ISP aol and then to June this year, Plusnet relay.

Yesterday, during a saving proces into a compressed file to send to my uni, aa microsoft window appears. and at speed it is copying my inbox. It disappears and then when I look at email, find all that is left is 12/12/11 to 7/1/11. My uni checked my laptop. They are not in the archives. But they find some arriving into outlook under the title of `home' from aol.webmail (I use this a lot for everyday stuff)

I need these emails urgently and how to stop this happening in the future. I use Comodo av & firewall with Microsoft defender

Thanks in advance for what you can do. Oh yeah a trojan was quarantined about three days ago, but the offer to compress email has been showing since porbably March.

Okay so, I don't know if this matters but, I'm currently running my system in safe-mode with networking so it wont reboot on me.

So, a few days ago, in the middle of watching Red Riding Hood, my computer rebooted. Since then, it's gotten to the point where the computer reboots every few minutes, any time I log on and try to run anything, be it virus scans or whatever. And if I don't try to run anything, it will work for awhile then freeze up at which point I'll have to do a hard reboot. In safe mode, I've run both my virus programs, McAfee and Malwarebytes. Neither come up with any viruses. However, when I run CCleaner, it seems to come up with a couple of windows related issues, which it says it fixes but, it doesn't solve my issue.

So figuring windows got corrupted somehow, I wanted to reinstall. But BIOS doesn't recognize my dvd rom.

Once IN windows, it recognizes the dvd drive and installs it, but when I look at the device manager, it's installed ... Read more

I went to staples today and I was asking one of the employees there about the Windows 7 Upgrade version and he said that he tried both the upgrade version and the full version and said that the full version was faster does anyone else have reports of this? Hello Everyone. I'm new here, and I've been trying at this "Graphics" stuff for about a week now, reading forum after forum, and visiting link after link. I wanted to play a game, but the OpenGL was only version 1.4, and required 2.0 . After tons of research, I realized that I needed to update my drivers. I tried using NVidia, and after tons and tons of errors, that didn't work...After more research, I figured out that my Display Adapters is Intel G33/G31 Express Chipset Family.... so I tried downloading an Intel Media Accelerator, which would give me OpenGL 2.0, but when I tried to use Setup.exe, I would get "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software", so after MORE research, I tried to use Device Manager>Display adapters>Upgrade Driver Software>Install Manually>Let Me pick>Have Disk> and then i used the ".inf folder". But then it says, "The driver selected for this device does not support this version of windows"......So, needless to say...I'm stuck....My computer is Windows 7 Home Premium x64. My Vendor I.D. is 0x8086 and my Device I.D. is 0x29C2....what can I do to make this work? Is there something I have to buy? I hope someone can help because I've been at this for a while.

A:Intel 4 Chipset not working...Does not support my version of windows.

According to this page...
Desktop graphics controllers — OpenGL* compatibility

It might not support OpenGL 2.0... I'm not really sure, the wording is weird.
You might also try to run in Vista SP2 compatibility mode. Because, as I see, this chipset is pretty old (2007) and the last drivers for the G31/G33 were for Vista. Vista drivers works with Windows 7. (oh and, try compatibility mode with the .exe)

Try it like that. And give us feedback

EDIT

Duuuuuuurp. The driver does exist for Windows 7. Just be sure to pick the right version for your oprating system. What you are probably trying to do is that you are trying to install the 32-bit driver for 64-bit Windows.

SpyShelter 10.1 is a big step towards better privacy protection. SpyShelter Free Anti-Keylogger is now working with 64 bit platforms and it includes a limited Keystroke Encryption driver. SpyShelter Premium and SpyShelter Firewall also received a new advanced feature ? user defined protected files list.

SpyShelter Free was released on June 2010 and it was dedicated for 32bit operating systems only. Since then it?s anti-keylogging capabilities were evolving together with SpyShelter Premium and SpyShelter Firewall. Today, we lift the 32bit embargo. From now on SpyShelter Free Anti-Keylogger (yes, the name has also changed) supports Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10 32&64bit.

On top of that, it is equipped with a limited keystroke encryption driver. While SpyShelter Premium and SpyShelter Firewall encrypt keystrokes of all applications, SpyShelter Free Anti-Keylogger keystroke encryption driver is limited to major browsers only (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera Browser).

SpyShelter Free Anti-Keylogger also became available for commercial use.

NOTE: Microsoft Edge is not officially supported by our keystroke encryption driver. It might work on some machines, but we do not guarantee it at the moment. This applies only to keystroke encryption module, keep in mind that your Edge is still protected by standard Anti Keylogger modules and System Protection (HIPS) ? as you probably already know SpyShelter offers two layers of protection against moni... As far as I know I havent installed any new hardware. Firefox stopped working when this started and it happened at random intervals. I have also gotten the following error codes from various screens: 0X0000007E, 0X0000001A, 0X0000003B.

Fairly new/decent computer. No previous trouble. Any help would be much appreciated.

My original post requested this information but perhaps it was buried in the text explaining the details of the problem . So this is for HP tech support if you are out there:I am an official member of the One Million User Windows 10 Failure Club. Unfortunately this club has no benefits. I have an H-Joshua-H61-UATX motherboard that cant get past boot post. No screen, no cursor blah, blah, blah. CLR CMOS has proved useless. My last effort before I purchase a Mac will be to move around the jumpers for the BIOS RECOVERY, FLASH OVERRIDE, OT RESET, and OT RECOVERY blocks. The BIOS Recovery has 4 blocks of 2 pins with pin 4 missing. Pin 1-2 came jumped. The other blocks are 2 pin each, and are blank. These pins are there for a purpose but the community has found no information on them including how to use them for possibly recovering the BIOS. YOU ( HP) have this information. If you will not provide it please explain why not vise ignoring our requests.  I am sure the community understands the  risks associated with tweaking the BIOS ( tell Microsoft), but we are out of options. Please do not stand by ignoring our requests. We are already getting that from Microsoft.

@Slowride

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details). The question: WILL ANY AWARD FLASH UTILITY WORK FOR FLASHING AN AWARD 4.51PG BIOS?

If the flash utility isn't the correct one, will it damage the BIOS in anyway, or just halt?

I've installed all of these specific applications (e.g. RealPlayer, Logmein, Windows 2007 Compatibility Pck File Format Converter) and many other 32-bit apps on other Windows 7 64-bit machines, including 2 other Lenovo laptops with the exact same specs, purchased at the same time, with absolutely no issue.

I thought maybe it was some kind of virus so I reformattted the laptop and I'm still getting the same issue. It's VERY frustrating. I've searched everywhere and don't see any answers. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening or how to correct it?

A:Microsoft says no new version coming after Windows 10, only incremental updates

Music to my ears! I still don't want to move forward away from Windows 7. But I will seeing as Windows 10 is a free update, and going to stick around for a longer time span.

This changing OS version every 2 years is for the dogs, or whatever else has a short lifespan.

As far as security updates are concerned, the company recently announced that it would <a href="http://www.techspot.com/news/60570-microsoft-slams-google-lack-android-security-patches.html">end its monthly security update</a> release cycle, known as Patch Tuesday, and instead will deliver bug fixes as soon as they are ready.Click to expand...

In other words IT can setup their own update schedule, when ever they see fit, not when MS dictates the world should update.

Now if I can turn off automatic updating. I'll kill the background process if I have to, to keep my machine from nagging to reboot. Or worse yet rebooting automatically, as well as updating. So far I've not seen the ability to turn automatic updating off.

I am working with a friend to build him a new 'computer.' He is looking at purchasing the Win7 'OEM' Home Premium version. I normally go with full versions so I am not familier with oem versions. I read somewhere that an OEM version 'bonds' itself to one particular motherboard or system and IF the mb or system fails it cannot be reinstalled onto another system period. IS this correct?? The retail version, on the other hand, allows for it to be reinstalled on another system should this occur but in no even can it be installed on more than ONE system AT ANY ONE TIME...Furthermore, should the mb or hard drive fail all he would have to do (worst case) is to call MS and ask for another activation code since he has a retail copy - CORRECT?? I need to let my friend know about oem before he buys it (due to the cheaper price)and then finds out it what strings are attached.. Are there any other 'downsides' to the OEM version that I should be aware of? THanks for any info..

A:OEM version - a little info please...

Hi speedracer2008

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/eula.aspx

The OEM EULA (End User License Agreement) states that when an OEM version of Windows is installed, it becomes part of that computer and cannot be moved to another computer.
In most cases, if you purchase any replacement parts from the same manufacturer where you bought the computer, you will not violate that EULA.
Your best source for information about this subject is the computer manufacturer where you buy the system. An OEM version is purchased by the computer manufacturer and they agree to provide the full support for that copy of Windows when they make that purchase.

My grandfather got taken in by a Microsoft Windows Support Scam and I'm fairly certain that his laptop's got a bug that I can't get rid of.

What happened:

He got a popup (while using Internet Explorer and after downloading an Adobe update) that said there was a security issue and that he needed to call a number for Windows Firewall Service.
(I looked up the number and apparently other people have been taken in by this scam. Here it is on a Microsoft forum:

This is what the Popup said:

So he called the number (1-888-447-4192) not knowing it was a scam and they said they were from Windows and that they needed remote access to his laptop to solve the security issue, which he gave them. (He said he did not give them any personal information, however.)

After he told me what happened, I checked out his laptop. He had about a dozen popups that wouldn't close and some malware programs were added, which I have removed.

Curious if anyone has tried this service. Seems like a lot of newbie problems can be fixed here ... and for free.

Get Free Windows PC Tech Support and Malware Removal at Your Local Microsoft Store

What You Can Get For Free

This service is a part of Microsoft?s in-store ?Answer Desk? service. Think of it a bit like the Genius Bar at an Apple Store ? yes, those Microsoft Stores feel very modelled on Apple Stores.
The Answer Desk website allows you to choose a nearby store and make a free appointment. Drop in and a ?Service Advisor? will offer some free services for any Windows laptop, no matter where you purchased it.
Free services include ?extended diagnostics,? ?software repair or support,? ?virus and malware removal,? and ?PC tune-ups.? For comparison, just the ?Virus and spyware removal? costs $199.99 if you go to Best Buy?s Geek Squad instead.
We recommend against using the Geek Squad, obviously. You can service your computer on your own. But, if you do want some professional help, you can get it for free. And, if you have relatives you live near a Microsoft Store and they ask you to help remove malware from their PCs and make it run faster, you can tell them to take it to a Microsoft Store and have Microsoft do the work so you can avoid the frustration and save your own time.

There?s always a catch. Microsoft Stores are retail stores where they want to make money, not service locations operated only for the benefit of their customers. They do offer some paid services,... Read more

It can't hurt to try, but I'd prefer finding support online or having a trusted, tech-savvy friend look at it first. In theory, they should be experts on their own products, so much of it will depend on the particular agent you are dealing with. If I had a relative that I couldn't get to easily, I'd probably suggest it, because the people at Best Buy's Geek Squad are clueless.

Hello All,

My son just called me saying a window popped up saying something along the lines of "your computer may be infected.  call Microsoft tech support" and then they listed a number to call. Well, my son being the computer savvy expert that he is called the freakin number. He let whomever on the other end log into our computer and then told my son he needs $200.00 to clean it up for us. Could anyone tell me what (if any) damage could have been done?? This is the kids computer, so, as far as i know there is no important login information on it. But it is connected to the house wifi and I just don't know if that could be an issue.

Thanks in advance for any help!

So in recent days I have been advised by Microsoft that they cannot provide me with support resolving a windows 10 activation issue. I replaced a motherboard for one of my clients and it failed activation even after reentering the key. Everything looked as it should be to activate. I went to Microsoft for support and they refused to help me because i am a technician ..not the owner of the PC. This policy of not providing tech support to computer repairers because they are not the owners of the system is ridiculous. I am interested to know if anyone else has had similar experiences from microsoft "support"

New motherboard (if it's a different model than the one you replaced) = new system according to Microsoft's EULA/ToS for Windows keys. So if it's an OEM key, new motherboard = buy a new key.

When I try to update I get a ( run-time error 3315: Field categories can't be a zero-length string ) pop-up box. This program did work on the machine before the reinstall just fine. The other thing that has changed is installing Norton Internet Security software. Is there a possible conflict between the two programs? I really need to get back to work but can't without the Auction Submit. Help!!!
Thanks,

A:Need help after Microsoft Tech Support! Run-time error! @#?&!!!

A lot of AntiVirus, Firewall and other similar software can cause headaches through conflicts etc. The best plan is to shut down such software before installing anything else. Try uninstalling your ebay program, shut down norton, reinstall ebay and then turn norton back on (allow for restarts etc), this may solve your problem. Good luck.

The other possible causes could be that you are running different versions following your reinstall of Windows; ensure all your software's upto date if you can, this tends to result in smoother systems altogether.

Hope this helps.

Okay so this is a pretty long story. Anyways I needed C++ Redis 2015 for a program for school to work, It kept failing so I went through the trouble shoots, repairing, deleting, reinstalling, repairing all previous C++ redist versions, restarting computer etc etc Then I went to the next trouble shoot which was to update windows. It would not update even after running the update reset tool and cc cleaner and at this point I was fed up and contacted Microsoft.
After about three hours of the techie screwing around in my pc she says lets try updating to win10. I say fine as long as I can downgrade back to win7. It upgrades, windows updates are working but god win 8/10 on a non touch screen sucks. So I almost immediately switch back to win7 after confirming that windows updates are working and C++ redist 2015 would download without fail. But apparently the techie deleted my catroot folders at some point into her troubleshooting, I stopped paying attention after like 2 hours. This of course corrupted my bios. Which gave me the amazing 0000000X6 Process1_FAILURE_INITIATE BSOD
At this point I had been up like 20 hours and stopped using my brain, she recommends I get into bios and switch the boot options to my Disc Drive and reinstall windows which I knew I wasn't going to do because I have like 100 hours of school work including my dissertation and thesis and 80% of my group project on it and am not willing to lose it. I appear to have multiple viruses wreaking havoc. At first things were just v. slow, then there were a few screen wipeouts and my wireless connection just kept shutting down. Now, I am only able to boot my computer to XP using the Last Good Configuration, must go to the internet directly thru the Verizon DSL box (Linksys Wireless G not working at all), and must disable patch-resistant Sasser popups using Run/shutdown -a before I can get on the web. And once I am on the net, I can browse generally and check yahoo email but can't log in to other password sites (for example, MyEbay) or complete online transactions (for example, purchasing anti spyware software online), and I battle constant pop up ads.

I was on the phone with microsoft yesterday about one virus I identified - Sasser. They had me download two files to fix it - the Sasser Worm Removal Tool (KB841720) and I believe a patch (KB835732) but they didn't work. Tech Support gave up, said I was probably "infested" with other viruses that were preventing these tools from working. Can someone help me?

The title pretty much says it all. What I have been seeing for some time now is a lot of my clients that click on ads in the right hand advertising panel of the facebook page have ended up with malware on their systems and big warnings on the screen to call a toll free number to fix their system and when they do are told it is Microsoft tech support which it is not and they want access to your system. If you give it to them you are then really in a jackpot of a problem. So just a warning, I tell my clients that it is a good rule of thumb NOT to click on anything in the right pane of their page as you have no clue which ones will cause this issue. Of late mostly the ones about stars dying or having other problems seem to be the most likely ones but I have seen it in others as well. One would think that facebook would do something about these type of things but sadly they are about the almighty dollar and don't seem to care. So every one please watch what you click on facebook. Especially if it seems to good to be true because if so it usually is.

A:The Facebook Microsoft Tech Support Scam.

Unsolicited phone calls, browser pop-ups and emails (aka Tech Support Scamming) from "so-called Support Techs" advising "your computer is infected with malware", “All Your Files Are Encrypted" and other fake "alert messages" has become an increasing common and prolific scam tactic over the past several years. The scams may involve web pages with screenshots of fake anti-virus software displaying warnings of bogus malware infections, fake ransomware and fake BSOD which include a tech support phone number to call in order to fix the problem. More nefarious scammers will talk their victims into allowing them remote control access of the computer so they can install a Remote Access Trojan in order to steal passwords and other sensitive personal information which could then be used to access bank accounts or steal a person's identity.Microsoft does not make unsolicited phone calls, display pop-up alerts in your browser to call a support number or send unsolicited email messages to request personal or financial information or to fix your computer. If you have not done so already, you may want to read Beware of Phony Emails & Tech Support Scams.

Hi
Long story as short as possible.
Just upgraded to full version Windows 10. In the previous 2 tech builds IE stopped working. Error
“ This page cannot be displayed “
Microsoft x 3 Techs 5 hours of remote assistance could not resolve the issue. I had no terminate the connection as was taking too long. Their final suggestion was that they feel there must be some (add-ons) preventing IE from starting.

I cannot cover all they did here over 5 hours
However, here are some key areas of trouble shooting done

Remediation
Reset Winsock and Network Settings
Reset Proxy Settings
Created another admin account (IE did not run with different user)
Removed Kaspersky Security
Internet options > advanced > restore default > Reset IE settings
All IE add-ons have been disabled within IE settings
Msconfig > turned off all services

Has anyone else had an issue like this? I’ve just created and attached a diagnostics scan as this is beyond me level.
Thanks all

A:IE not working. Microsoft Tech 5 Hours remote support did not fix

Just a second part to this question.

In the attached file diagnostic file. I see the following file .exe

Program: Live Support Chat for Web Site Operator Console - Version: 5.7.3.r15174 by Provide Support, LLC 5.7.3 ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Provide Support\Live Support Chat for Web Site\unins000.exe")

Should this be there ?

Hi, Dont know if you can help but here goes.
We run a accounts package at work that is unique for us (accounts 2 software), unfortunately the guy that supports us has been taken seriously ill and dosent have anyone to back him up. What I am wanting to know is has anyone ever heard of the software package and if so do you have any contact numbers or can you give me a bit of guidance on where to go next.

A:Finding Support for Accounts 11 Version 7.0.x

Hi janh666, and welcome to TSG.

A Google search found one company that offers software called "Artemis Accounts 2". If this is the software you are using, you could try contacting them for any available support options using the "Contact" link at the top of the page.

http://www.aquilatechnology.com/software.htm

If you are using a different "Accounts 2" software, does it have any kind of Help / About menu selection that may shed some light on the name of the company that created the software and possible support information?

Was looking on Newegg.com for graphics cards and noticed that they list the version of direct x each card supports. My question is, if it says that that particular card supports direct x 7, does that mean that it won't run in my system if I have direct x 9 installed?

A:Direct X version support for GFX CARD

No, what it means is that the card is capable of the "cutting edge" technology of DirectX 7. So whatever was the latest graphics craze of the day when DX7 was around, that card is capable of it. It does run under DX9 just fine, you just don't get fancy DX9 effects that Radeon 9xxx and GeForce FX series cards and up can handle.

Home network of 1 hardwired and several wireless computers, all Windows XPPro or Win7. Situation...HArdwired computer is on most days and has had a srvhost memory leak issue, and has been pretty slow browsing, even though we have a 5 Mbit pipe to the house. Today a daughter was on her laptop and connected to network wirelessly and got a policeman icon with "the page does not support your version of browser" and an "update" icon. She could not browse - any request resulted in "the page does not support your version of browser" error. She did NOT click the update icon. She had AVG2011 up to date, and a scan showed no issues. She downloaded (using the hardwired computer) anti-malware software and did a scan, which found 90ish issues, which it claimed to cure, and new scans of laptop appeared clear, but she still gets the error.

I came home and tried my laptop, which had run on our network either this AM or last night just fine, and got the same browser version error. Also tried my wife's machine (also wireless) and got the same issue.

Browsers on 3 of the 4 machines checked and were set to "get automatically" - no proxy. We use Mozilla primarily, but IE had same issues on 2 computers that I checked.

Did hard reset of the router (Linksys G) which had "linksys" as the SSID - I know, but I live miles from anyone and any traffic. Didn't expect have a router problem via the internet, but I think that might be what h... Read more

I got a pop up that was loud and wouldn't let me close it saying, "your computer has been infected call Microsoft" and I did because I turned it off and it was still yelling st me when I turned it back on. I gave the tech remote access and he said I had a tiny something trojan virus. Well I didn't fall for paying, got off the phone, held power button down and turned computer off. Am able to use it fine now with no more warning but am I safe after giving the remote access? I was on the phone for about 30 mins while he was going around to different areas in my computer telling me what all of the "problems" were.

A:Gave remote access to a "Microsoft tech support" am I safe?

It wasn't Microsoft, it was a scam.   I suggest you have a look here and create a new post asking for assistance to ensure your computer has not been compromised .

Hi there

ADDED Notes for UEFI systems --- see my last post in this thread for details when using UEFI systems.
If you haven't got Windows 8 Enterprise and you want to make a portable Windows system then it can still be done quite easily (and a good learning process too).

What you need to get acceptable performance is a USB3 stick (large enough for a Windows system) or better an SSD - if you've got or replaced an older 120 GB SD for example that will be perfect.. An SSD connected to even a USB2 port will provide a decent enough response - better if you connect the SSD to a USB3 port even with the standard SATA==>USB2 cable. An esata connection is fastest. You need also a USB installation stick.

1) Download OPENSUSE 13.1 either the full version or the Live CD -- while the live CD is less download the full version seems to work better.
2) Create a bootable USB of the downloaded distro. To do this read this link - it's better on a USB even if you DO have DVD/CD's in your machine. Faster and easier.

https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Create_a..._using_Windows

3) boot the USB -- Very important press F2 to select your language and keyboard and F3 to select the correct video resolution for your monitor.

4) In the selections after boot choose KDE (it's the easiest and most Windows like interface for people not used to Linux).

5) Now follow the instructions here EXACTLY - especially the BOOT LOADER otherwise you will write the boot record to your Windows HDD and you'll get pro... Read more

So I know it was Windows 8.1 x64 .. But exactly which variant is my model shipped with? Home? Single Language? "N" ? ....Can't be Pro. Is there way to determine this from the embedded product key in my BIOS? A lot of websites say it's "Windows 8.1 with Bing". But then there is also "Windows 8.1 with Bing, Single Language"....etc. How can go about making a fresh Win 8.1 install that will be to able to self-activate from the OEM key in my BIOS. I have all the Model, Serial and batch numbers etc on the back of my laptop. If those will help. This is probably a question for HP experts. PS: I erased my entire hard disk. So it doesn't have anything anymore. Fresh install.

Hi: The product specs page for your model below indicate that it comes with Windows 8.1 with Bing (64-bit). http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-15-Notebook-PC-series/7234951/model/7553315/document/c04489978/ I do not believe you can use the W8.1 ISO download from Microsoft, as that will not work with the W8.1 OEM product key in the BIOS. You either need to use the W8.1 recovery media you made when you first got the notebook, or a W8.1 OEM installation disk. You notebook has the non-Pro verson of W8.1.

Putting together my new system today and wondering what version of windows to go with.

What are the actual installed sizes of the different 64 bit versions of 7? As I understand it, I should go with "Professional" because "Ultimate" uses several gb more and doesn't do anything important with it? What about "Home Premium"- is it smaller? I can't seem to find REAL ACTUAL CLEAN INSTALL SIZES for each one ANYWHERE..

The SSD is only 60gb (A Corsair Force GT)... Obviously 7 is going to inhabit a huge chunk of whatever I am left with after formatting. A huge chunk.

Does anyone know if I can use something to create a custom install of 7?? You know, like that one program that makes an XP CD with only the features you want??? That way I could have a far far smaller 7 install??

How important are the Windows 7 SSD optimizations?? Like TRIM and all of that?? Is XP 64-bit usable at all?? I am told that finding drivers for it would be impossible and nothing would ever run right .... I have to have 64 bit OS to use the 16gb of ram..

THANKS!!

There are no "actual" sizes because each install contains different drivers.

Dependant on what you add and remove and how much you game, win 7 will eventually consume ~ 40 gigs for 64bit

ipconfig /allThen it gets the who gives the DHCP Server and adds to a list.I've uploaded to share, but it only works with Windows in Portuguese Language.http://www.fileserve.com/file/CDKqyQqIf you want adapt to your language, I've uploaded the source code:http://www.fileserve.com/file/uZ23XjzNote that when running this software you will loose your network connection to catch the infected PCsThe left list has DHCP servers and the right list displays what the software is doing. If you want free an affected PC from an infected PC (a PC which displays the red page but is not infected yet), reboot the computer or try ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renewUse ipconfig /all to view the DHCP Server and see if you are being a affected. The infected PC gives a lease time of one hourGood Luck

I want to reinstall XP.

I set the computer to boot to the CD drive.

Then I got an error message saying "No boot record found" (referring to the XP Home CD) in the CD drive, so the XP CD will not boot (I guess).

Then I rebooted by turning off the computer and turning the computer on via the switch taking me to the desktop.

I clicked on the CD drive icon so I could get access to the XP CD.

I clicked on the "reinstall XP" option but then I got the message saying I could not reinstall XP because the version on my hard drive is newer than the XP version on my XP-Home CD.

I have Acronis so I can wipe the disc clean.

However, if I wipe disc clean and reboot with an Acronis emergency CD, what do I do after I reboot using the emergency CD?

Is there a difference between the MSDN subscription version of Vista Ultimate and the Retail version that would cause the Virtual Server2005 R2 SP1 installation to fail on a PC upgraded from Home Premium (retail version) to Ultimate (MSDN subscription version)?

I have a Vista x64 Home Premium that came loaded with software from the manufacturer that I would lose if I were to overwrite it by a new installation from my MSDN subscription version of Vista Ultimate.

If I install Vista Ultimate as a brand new installation, Virtual Server installation works fine.

But if I install Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 after I upgraded Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate, I get the following error at the last phase of the installation: ?Windows Installer has stopped working? and then it sends to Microsoft the attached 3 files.

I even tried Windows Installer 4.5 but it did not work either:

Any idea why the upgraded version fails to install Virtual Server 2005 whereas the brand new installation of the MSDN subscription Vista Ultimate works?

Hello,

My wife has a Lenovo ThinkPad X230 (Type 2306-CTO) that shipped with Windows 7 and has been successfully upgraded to Windows 10. It has been running Windows 10 (retail release plus updates) smoothly for a couple months.
Yesterday (11 Dec 2015) my wife ran the Windows 10 system file checker (sfc /scannow) in an elevated command prompt on her laptop. She did this to make sure everything was still okay after updating Windows 10 to version 1511 (OS Build 10586). It wasn't okay:

Was organizing the SATA connectors in case disconnecting/reconnecting a few HDDs, one with the W7 64 bit OS (H1). Then disconnected all HDDs leaving a new one and installed W7 64 bit on it (H2) with only it connected. Performed fine. Disconnected it (H2) and reconnected the first one (H2) and W7 would not launch, so inserted OS disc and it would repair something (I have no idea what as it did not indicate, I found that to be particular helpful by MS) and then W7 would launch. From there on, any time I switched between the two drives each having the respective OS (H1 or H2), the OS disc would need to be used to repair the unspecified problem and launch Win. Did this a few times until the first OS (H1) the disc no longer could 'repair' what ever needed to be fixed and the famous message follows:

"This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows"

The real (dis)interesting part to all of this, is that yes important data is off on drives other than the OS drive though did have a few files with mostly shortcuts on the desktop. In accessing the first OS (H1) via the second (H2), after fighting through the "access is denied" and "ownership rights" UAL BuSines, only half of the files that were on the desktop are actually in the desktop folder/directory. Is it worth fixing the OS on H1 to get into Windows to see if ... Read more

Using the Recovery Disk multiple times on different partitions did not help the situation. I would guess that your boot partition is messed up because of that. "Right now we’re releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we’re all still working on Windows 10." That was the message from Microsoft employee Jerry Nixon, a developer evangelist speaking at the company's Ignite conference this week. Nixon was explaining how Microsoft was launching Windows 8.1 last year, but in the background it was developing Windows 10. Now, Microsoft employees can talk freely about future updates to Windows 10 because there's no secret update in the works coming next. It's all just Windows 10. While it immediately sounds like Microsoft is killing off Windows and not doing future versions, the reality is a little more complex. The future is "Windows as a service."
