# What makes a demo kick?

Q: What makes a demo kick?

I just dont get it! How does a demo just end after a set amount of days? Ok I got a demo and I liked it but not the price.

Is this safe to ask what makes them work?

I want to make it work again but cant until I know what makes it stop. Is this ok to ask? I wont ask no more until approved.

A: What makes a demo kick?

Just like an alarm clock.

The program has encoded a date after which it's not supposed to function anymore.

I guess you could wait a period of time, and try a fresh trial download, but is
that honest?

If one likes a program, one buys it, or finds a free alternative.

I am running Windows XP and my screensaver won't kick in. I am just using standard windows "My Pictures Slideshow" screen saver. I have tried several others as well with the same result. All of them will work if I click the "Preview" button, but if I set the timeout to 1 minute and come back 1 hour later it still has not kicked in.

Everything used to work fine, but about 3 weeks ago, something must have gotten corrupted. I have gone through the step of a "repair" booting with the windows reinstellation CD provided with my computer, but that didn't seem to have any effect at all. I have also checked the basic screensaver parameters in my registry and they appear to be correct.

Help.

I keep having redirect problems, pop ups galore and keep getting a troj agent.fl message from PC-Cillin saying quarantined each time. The programs say that my system is clean, then I soon have all sorts of bugs again. Alot of the popups seem to be connected to nview? (looking at the properties). Am dazed and confused at this point

Can anyone tell me when Readyboost is likely to kick in?

I have an issue with my 2GB PC that keeps running slow apparently from lack of memory, however the memory usage never goes over about 70-80%...

Given above I'm not certain that either A; My PC will not bother to use the RB, B; My PC doesn't have need for exra memory at present.

thanks

Dellboy67

1) There'll some tasks which will experience a real performance gain from readyboost and there'll be some where it wont be that visible. Its not that you plug in the rb drive and your dell becomes a ferrari.

2) What rb does is to keep a copy of the disk cache on the usb drive. Rb then monitors hard disk operations, reading/writing files from that copy when that will boost performance. E.g. for sequential read operations, rb will take a backseat because the hdd is faster than a flash drive for that purpose. For non-sequential reads, rb will step in because thats faster from a flash drive. Please note that the faster the hdd, the lesser the differential so, generally speaking rb performance gain will be greater with a 5400 rpm drive than a 7200 rpm one.

3) You can use the windows performance monitor to monitor rb.

A recent thread addressed a live USB boot of Linux. This perked my interest, having a small netbook, collecting WinXP dust for the last few years. So, I decided to give Linux a go again. The platform is an MSI U100 Wind Netbook.

Intel Atom N270 Processor @ 1.6 GHz
1 GB of DDR2-667 Memory (PAE)
Intel 945GSE / ICH7-M Chipset
Integrated Intel GMA 950
160 GB 5,400 RPM Hard Drive
Bios will boot from USB

PLODR suggested LXLE and Earthling suggested Puppy. After a bit of research, I found Wary Puppy at
http://puppylinux.org/main/Long-Term-Supported WaryPuppy.htm
I chose wary-5.5.iso in the index folder and the 140MB downloaded via my DSL in less than 15 mins.
Wary seemed the best choice for my old machine although it might handle some later ones; I will explore.

PLODR also suggested using PendriveLinux to created the bootable stick from the Linux distro, so I I got it from here:
When run, UUI lists several linux distros it can handle, Wary is one. (thx PLODR)

Now, the hardest part was to find the flashdrive in my junkpile, acquired for some forgotten project, ages ago. Yea!, I found it, an 8GB flashdrive, plugged it into my desktop, ran UUI and quickly and got a bootable stick. Then, stuck the stick in the MSI, booted up and low and behold, there is a new "Puppy" in the house. (thx Earthling)

I would appreciate any comments and suggestions for other ... Read more

Hi - first time user - please help. Been trying for weeks to get comp going and experienced various false starts. Basically - sometimes the bios start - a second,or two, initially - after dozens on tries to start-up - when I get nothing. I eventually reach the desktop (then I have to select Restore), then perhaps I get to the main menu!! Sometimes I actually manage to get the computer running, and on the net, only for it to crash and I have to start again. This performance may take hours, or is even done over the course of a couple of days, during odd moments. (Thought - perhaps it has to "Warm up"?) I have run the Check File System, C, FAT 32, (Disk 1D3B-16DB seems to be the one being checked). Sometimes I get a list of errors, but today all seems ok. but
still it keeps crashing. Have run anti-virus each day, along with anti spyware etc, and even added two new ones and run these. All ok. Just cookies. Tried chkdsk, also the system's "search and attempted repair of errors" prog (this took dozens of attempts as it kept crashing), but all seems ok. Is there a genius out there who can help? I run Windows XP, with Serv Pack 2, and use wi-fi rather than a cable/broadband connection. I have had no problems for the three years I have had this. Is it past it? Thanks loads. Look forward to a message/glimmer of hope.

A:Bios may kick in or not, may get going - or not!!!

1) Go to Start/right click My Computer/select Properties/select Advanced Tab/under Startup and Recovery, click on Settings/make sure the box for Automatically Restart is unchecked/click OK & Apply as appropriate. The next time the computer "crashes" write down the details of the error messages, including the exact error code and the four parameters, and post it here.

2)Go to the following link, scroll down and download HijackThis 1.99, run a scan and create a logfile, and post the results here.

None of them found viruses so i uninstalled two of them and went back to using just the original (clamwin.) the virus scanners were running at different times and were not installed all at once. Now I go to get on it today and Everytime i opened IE My screen would flash (it'd go black then i'd get a picture then black again etc) also When I try to play my sims game the computer just restarts. Any suggestions? I'm at a loss and don't want to have to reload the OS if possible. A:I want to kick my windows XP machine Hello and Welcome to TSF. The new Outlo*ok*.*com delivers an exciting set of new experiences across web, phone, and desktop, and we?re eager for you to start using it. It appears that you are currently using Windows Live Mail 2012 to connect to your Out*look*.*com account. Windows Live Mail 2012 does not support the synchronization technologies used by the new Outl*ook*.*com. When account upgrades begin at the end of June, you will no longer be able to receive email sent to your Out*look*.*com account in Windows Live Mail 2012. Rest assured, you can always access your email by logging into Out*look*.*com from any web browser, and you will continue to have access to all your data that is currently in Windows Live Mail 2012. If you currently use Windows Live Mail 2012, we recommend that you switch to the Mail app in Windows to*day. The Mail app is built in to Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10, and has a more modern design. To begin using it, simply launch the app and add your Out*look*.*com account. If you are using Windows 7, you can upgrade to a newer version of Windows to enjoy the Mail app and the other benefits. You may also like to save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above. A print out of the instructions would be a good reference to make sure you don't yet lost. Also, it is important that you complete the instructions in the right order, and also that you don't miss any steps out!If you have any queries about the process or just general questions, just ask.Your system is terribly infected. The problem with these infections nowadays is, it causes a lot of damage. Even if we clean the malware off your system, I can't guarantee that your system will be clean afterwards, because these infections/bundles leave a lot of leftovers behind that most scanners won't even recognise and logs won't show. Also, I can't promise you we can repair all the damage it caused... Even after cleaning the malware, you can still get errors afterwards because of the damage. Solving these is not always possible since it will be searching for a needle in a haystack to find the right cause and solution. So, we can try to clean this up and do what we can, but keep in mind that we can't solve ALL problems this malware already caused... We have about 60 computers in this building and they are all shared among nurses, accountants, etc. For a time I had issues with people logging in and never logging off, so by the end of the day there'd be 5+ people logged in on one machine (my machines are dated so they are slow as is). This became a problem so I now only allow one user on at a time through GP. I found a program called Administrative Unlock that allows me to kick off any user that is logged on. It is perfect because it doesn't give access to the logged-on account, it simply kicks it off and brings me back to the login screen. However, there are days where I have lots to do and people constantly calling me to unlock computers gets ridiculous. I want to give everyone the ability to log someone off. On the other hand I obviously cannot afford to give out an admin account password because they would wreck things in no time. What would you guys suggest for this? I tried making an admin account that was "locked down" and couldn't be logged in to, but this doesn't stop users from using that admin account to install things on their personal accounts, etc. Sorry for the novel. Hello.

My uncle came to my place, and his GF seems to use my WIFI (that I don't mind..)
But.. Her phone seems to be very hard on my internet, I can't watch a livestream at 360p (previously i was able to watch 720/1080p).

I think her phone has some crappy wifi reciever or something (seriously high packet loss..?) but what I'm here for is to know how to kick her off my wifi.. My router is TeleWell-EA510v3

I want to make sure its her phone that is eating all and every piece of my internet and killing my ping (from 60 to 400) since she's at my place.. Also I don't feel like asking her to disconnect since it would not be cool..
Thanks..

You would have to access at the homepage of your router and list the material connected and remove it...but it might connect again unless you blacklist the connected device you want off (she might not know she has been blacklisted, just can't connect to your router anymore...not so cool also ).

A:surfside kick has got ahold of my pc pleeze help

Hello, and welcome to TSF!

You have a VX2 infection, probably, a newer version of Peper, and several more.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Go to this site to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

You have the Peper infection. Download PeperUninstall. Make sure you are connected online to run this program. Run it once and reboot. Then run it again for the second time. Download PeperFix and save it to your Desktop. Run it and click Find and Fix (reboot if prompted).

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After ... Read more

This is my first-time posting on this website, so bear with me as I am a 19/m University Student, with basic knowledge of the technicialities of computers..

My Computer operating system is Windows XP
I've used all my programs to scan for ad-ware, Xoft-Spy, AVG Program and Ewido Malware removal software...

I've also tried to one online scanning from the recommended links, but I had sooo many pops up comming up, it slowed my computer down and I got really impatient...

I used to have Norton Anti-virus 2006, but in September I had encountered a really nasty ad-ware or spy-ware and viruses, that cancelled my subscription, and I tried uninstalling it and deleted most of the components manually, but was still not able to uninstall it completely off my machine, nor can I re-install it either. (But, my dad had to help me, and was able to remove all the nasty stuff that affected it) - But still can't remove Norton..

Could you please recommend an anti-virus program better than Norton, or just as good?

Anyways, on to the log and the current problem... I've encountered a program called SurfSide Kick 2, and I had trouble getting rid of all of it, until I looked at all the other postings with the same problem, so I've followed the steps to removing it from my machine completely.

I've gotten rid of all the main stuff, but I still get a pop-up on my Mozilla Internet or Internet Explorer once in a while...All my scans are finding nothing which can be a good thing... It use... Read more

A:HELP! SurfSide Kick Problem - (Got rid of it tho, but still got some other problems)

Click "Install" to extract the contents to a newly created folder.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot. From the l2mfix folder, double click l2mfix.bat
Select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter ONCE.
Do NOT depress any keys on your keyboard until the tool request you to "press any key to reboot"

On the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy/paste the contents of that log back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder to locate log.txt.

If you receive an error - \system32\Autoexec.nt is not suitable for running MS-Dos applications, you will need to visit this website to download additional files.

Hi

I am having terrible trouble trying to get rid of surfsidekick and tried lots of forums and tried several things from Norton, Microsoft, Spybot etc to get rid of it but it keeps coming bac and several other scanners.

I have also tried booting to dos and trying to delete.

The files are not present in the add or remove programs and have also tried deleting from the command line with the ... /U.

I have also tried to unlock the files using some unlock packages to try and delete but that does not work either.

I enclose my files.... Thanks in advance for your help..I have given up tonight as its now 4 am.

Hi, I stumbled onto this site while searching for a way to fix my PC. I recently did some risky downloading, and instantly realized my computer was no longer mine. I ran Ad-Aware and removed many malitous programs, but still the same problems are plaguing me. These problems include random pop up ads, disabled norton antivirus autoprotect; that will not turn back on, and I am also unable to turn on my windows firewall. I was able to run a Norton scan that removed a few items, but it didnt seem to do anything. I have done everything i can think of but nothing will work. If anyone here can take the time to offer any help i will be forever grateful.

Thanks for your time to read my post and here is my HijackThis Log file.

Hello, i have been having these problems for quite some time but i just recently found your forum. The types of problems im having include: Having a pop-up browser as part of my wall paper. Computer will run slower at times, random pop up messages without an actual browser window, such as messages saying to click yes to continue on to party poker, wall paper tends to turn all white at times. Whenever i run Ad aware and spybot it tells me it cannot remove surf side kick and command services. Most of the problems come back when i restart my computer as well. I have tried using add/remove programs for surf side kick and it does not show up. I have also tried running those programs in safe mode but i still have the same problems. I applogize for any inconvinence, and any help is appreciated. My HJT logfile will be pasted below. Thanks!

I only have one phone line, and when I'm online and someone calls I can't do anything about it. I just got a new computer, an emachine. My old gateway had this rad program called GWMDMMSG.EXE that had a popup whenever someone would call that let me choose to disconnect or ignore. I have call waiting. I don't want a program that I have to pay for, or a program that requires that I get a forwarding service from my phone company. All I want is a free program that will kick me offline when someone else calls. That's it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I know that I should get broadband, you don't need to tell me.

I was moving around some furniture & had to unplug my computer. It was working fine before.. After arranging everything I plugged my computer back up & it wouldn't power on. Here's the strange thing. I moved my computer to my room to see what's going on & it powers on, though it says NTLDR is missing. I've made no changes between unpluging that time to move things around & taking it back to my room. I remove the hard drives from my computer, to try to kick it up on another XP computer, a compac presario I had for years my sis was holding on to, & with the hard drives installed, wouldn't boot past the compac logo. So i put my hard drives back into my XP computer & now it says "Strike F1 to retry reboot or F2 to run setup" & all I was trying to do is copy either or both the NTLDR & Boot.ini to one of the drives. It was running fine till it was unplugged, so what could've happened?

My server kicks me offline after 31/2 hours. I talked to them about it and was told this is how they are setup. I have unlimited access and told them this should not be happening. Their reply was reguardless this is their setup. Also usually after about 30 minutes I recieve a pop up message from my server -- Resume online cl yes or no. Yes is sometimes on the right and other times on the left. If I ignored it I am kicked off. Tricky. I did find a way to prevent that from occurring and the method I found is continually working well. I would like to know how to stop my server from coming thru my firewall to kick me offline. Any help you may offer will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

It states the 131129 is due to a Trojan. Now ive so de-trojanized the computere that the next and last option is sulphuric acid...
It seems in mycase the problem has probably been my Anti dialer software..this 0900 stopper..
So i would suggest to players that have the same problem stop hunting the non existant trojans for a moment and turn off your Anti dialer program, i did try firewall etc but this program ran seperate from all the rest.

I use T-online.de it comes with the package so germans everywhere with t-online, you know where your problem now lies.

Hi. I have a Toshiba Qosmio laptop running Windows XP SP3. For some reason, my computer's screensaver doesn't kick in, and the screen doesn't turn off, which my computer is set to do after 10 and 15 minutes, respectively. However, it takes a while for the computer to do this; it happens right after the taskbar freezes up. Icons on the desktop are still there and can be clicked, but the taskbar and start menu are unresponsive. It will only respond after bringing up the task manager, which must be done by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del. Even though the taskbar responds to commands after this, the screensaver problems still occurs. The screensaver usually activates with programs running in the background such as iTunes, and even anti-virus scanners, but now it will not even activate with no programs running. I've ran my anti-virus software (Trend Micro), TDSSKiller, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and even Spybot S&D in safe mode to find the culprit and that has not done the trick. I'm really confused as to what is going on with my computer. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Here is my log file if you need this as well:

You have already tried Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Personalization and clicked on the Screensaver Icon at the right towards the bottom.

I have no idea which Screensaver you want to run. However please redo the procedure in the para above and choose a different Screensaver from the Drop Down List, select the Wait Time that you want and if you think necessary configure the Settings.

Once done, have a look at the Saver by clicking the preview Button. Do you see the Saver or is it the earlier Blank Screen story?

check your power settings for you laptop. it may be on the desktop scheme, which usually slows things down when its unplugged. I've seen this a couple times with others, look under power options in the control panel. the reason is, it takes more power to run the fans, which leaves less to run the proccesor, hd, ect.

Hi

My new POS Terminals have a "CD" port which I assume is a Comm Port. Trial and error will determine which Comm Port it is, as the Terminal has 6.

I am looking for a method to code into VBA a signal to kick open the Cash Drawer.

The Cash Drawer manual states the following:

"Use DEBUG.EXE program under DOS or Windows 98

Command
O 4B8 01 - Cash Drawer Open
O 4B8 00 - Cash Drawer Closed

Set the I/O address 4B8h bit0=1 for opening Cash Drawer by "DOUT bit0" pin control"

Also " Register Location: 4B8h
Size: 8 Bit"

All of which means very little to me.....

Hope somebody can assist with this.

A:Cash Drawer Kick Code - VBA - Access 2000

Brian, I don't know who can help you with this one. It is not something that I have experience with.
I know a couple of the posters have experience with Bar Code Readers, but they didn't seem to ned any VBA.
It might be possible to treat the Cash draw as a Printer, which is the only reference that I can find to a "Port", but I doubt it.
The software is pretty old if it is reffering to DOS & Windows 98.

Microsoft plans to start 2012 with a surprisingly large Patch Tuesday that covers seven security bulletins which collectively address eight separate vulnerabilities. Previous January releases have normally featured only one or two bulletins.

The solitary critical bulletin in the batch fixes a remote code execution issue in Media Player. The remaining six "important" bulletins due next Tuesday handle the BEAST SSL issue and various information disclosure bugs, escalation of privilege issues and an update to Microsoft’s SEHOP (Structured Exception Handler Overwrite Protection) technology to enhance the defence-in-depth capability that it can offers to legacy applications. The "important" rather than critical status for the Beast SSL issue is at least debatable.

January 2012 Patch Tuesday Preview - The Laws of Vulnerabilities

A:Microsoft's 2012 kick-off features 7 security bulletins

The SSL vuln patch is labeled as "important" because mitigation is as easy as using an RC4 cipher rather than a CBC one, and if FIPS is required, migration to using TLS v1.1 or v1.2 mitigates it as well. TLSv1.1 was RFC'ed in 2006, and Microsoft's IIS7 (Server 2008) and Vista/Win7 support TLS v1.1 or v1.2. While the vulnerability itself is fairly critical, mitigation is fairly easy and attacks aren't seen as prevalent yet, and as such Microsoft deems that type of issue "important".

Hi, i'm a noob at this and i use window xp on my toshiba laptop. i just found out that i have that stupid virus Surfside kick, i get an insane amount of pop ups now and i used to never get them!
anyhow i tried to deleat it using my control panel but that wasn't the case, so i found this site through google and its helped me.
I tried running the norton antivirus and it said it got rid of everthing, i ran the search and destroy bot but once it get to around 27604/37398 it makes a werid pop noise and turns off (i've tried running it again and it'd happen every time), also when using this program it detected Network Monitor and Command service (cmdservice) which i cannot get rid of. i also used the blacklight program and it says F- Secure Black light was unable to aquire necessary privileges (Se DebugPrivilege).
my boyfriend suggested to restore my laptop to a previous date (i did it for april 2nd 2006).

Also if i don't touch my laptop for a while, it will shut down by itself... or go on standby when i didn't make the settings that way.

i don't know what to do anymore :(

At first I was infected with a bunch of different viruses, adwares, malwares, and pretty much everything else. I was getting tons of pop ups, my browser was being hijacked, my registry was locked, and I couldn't open the task manager. After running several anti-adware, virus programs, and hijackthis I was able to fix most of the problems. Now all that seems to be left is Look2me. Nothing that I'm doing seems to work. I'm still getting popups, my comptuer is running slower than it should be, and programs randomly crash. A:Infected With Look2me, Had Sufer Side Kick And Several Others But They All Seemed To Be Removed

Hello,Your system is terribly infected. Problem with these infections nowadays is, it causes a lot of damage. So, we can try to clean this up and do what we can, but keep in mind that we can't solve ALL problems this malware already caused. Please perform next steps in the right order..Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)REGEDIT4[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\regfile\shell\open\command]@="regedit.exe \"%1\""[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\keyfile][HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Scripting Host\Settings]"Timeout"=-[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows Scripting Host\Settings]"Timeout"=-Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your C:\ Important!!! Ths is an email I sent to a friend to get help also. Please excuse th wording. It saved me time to cut ad paiste. I am dealing wit thi computer crash, tryin to open a new business and manage two kids at home.

I got the wireless card out of our desktop and put in my laptop that we never use at this time So I am able to get you an email wth some information about my computer. Here is a list of some of the spyware programs I had been downlading to try to get rid of the problems

1. Microsoft Antispyware
2. Spybot Search and Destroy
3. Lavasoft- AdAware SE and VX2 Variant ( I could not get the VX2 one to work. It said it needed the newest versio, but accoding to www.download.com it was the newest version 2.0)
4. Spyware doctor which we bought and will be using the 30 day money back guarentee since it was not as good as cnet said iy would be. All the rest of the programs we used were free downloads. Many of them I got from a tech support site I was using for assistance on the one certain malaware I was fighting (surfside kick)

7. Hijack This- This is the one that the site I was working on said to use to get a log from so they could tell better what was wrong with the computer. There was another step they were wanting me to run after the Ad-Aware SE step. It was another full computer scan. That is when my computer crashed. I did go to kijack this before I started and got a log file and... Read more

Hello littlebrody26 and welcome to TSF,

You are severely infected here and it will take more than one pass, so please be patient with the process. You're biggest problem is that you are running XP with no updated service packs installed which leaves you extremely vulnerable.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad since you will not have any of browsers open while you are fixing this. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. Again, you should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Before we begin, let's move HiJackThis to it's own folder; like c:\HJT. When we're done 'cleaning' off your system, we're going to 'flush' the temporary folders which, with HiJackThis in it's current location, we'll lose both the program and the backups it creates. These backups are important in case we need to restore any 'fixed' entry(s) later.

To do this:
Click My Computer, then C:\
Right click in the right-hand panel.
In the menu that opens, click New>Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder.
Rename it"HJT".

Download WinPFInd http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/oldtimer/WinPFind.zip and extract it to your C:\ folder. This will create a folder called WinPFind in the C:\ folder. Do Not run it yet.

I have been infected with a number of adware/viruses. Got so bad I lost Windows access - but a friend helped me get it back. Since then, Spybot, Adaware and Norton antivirus repeatedly tell me I have no infections. However, when I am online (with broadband), I consistently get a pop message from "Messenger Service" telling me I have a message from (usually) security to alert inviting me to download a particular utility. e.g. corrupted system registry therefore visit www.FixReg32.com and so forth.I have followed the instructions provided on this site. As such Spybot, Adaware, Norton antivirus all clear. Avert Stinger also clear. However Panda came up with the following (I haven't deleted the infected files. I think I need advice).Incident Status Location Adware:Adware/MaxFiles Not disinfected C:\Program Files\ipwins\ipwins.exe Adware... Read more

Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you. Before we can get started on fixing your problem you must change the location of Hijackthis. It should not run from a temp directory. Download and run the HijackThis autoinstall program Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files as the destination.Run the program only from that location from now on. It is essential that you follow these steps or certain important features of the program will not function correctly.Once you have Hijackthis running from this folder, please reboot and post a new hijackthis log as a reply in this thread.

Here's the skinny: My laptop is a Toshiba brand that runs Windows XP Home Edition

a week or two ago it started seemingly overheating and shutting itself down...even more recently its switched to randomly shutting down and rebooting, and even worse, randomly going to white screens. Now it just keeps rebooting at the start up screen or going to a frozen white screen (in which it like bursts into a full white from the center spreading out till it's all white). Once every blue moon itll actually go to desktop and i can do something for about max of an hour then it turns off and starts over again. Here's what sucks worse, i got the chance to system restore and all that...and it appeared to be fine, then boom in the middle of me setting up everything the way i like it it goes to w hite screen, great....

so pretty much i reformatted erasing all my digital art for nothing...

any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

A:Rebooting from hell w/ a white screen side kick - *yikes*

If you have reformatted and still getting the same problem unless the reformat did not work for whatever reason I would think that the problem you are experiencing is hardware related and on a laptop I would suggest taking it into a repair shop for a look see.

When Microsoft starts rolling out Windows 10 on July 29, it won't be holding a single news-focused centralized launch or a webcast chock full of PowerPoint slides.Instead, Microsoft plans to play up "the newest generation of Windows fans," via a global advertising and online-marketing campaign, officials said on July 13.On July 29, Microsoft will host a number of fan celebrations primarily for its 5 million Windows Insiders in 13 cities around the world, including Sydney, Beijing, Tokyo, Sao Paolo, London, Berlin, Madrid, Singapore, Johannesburg, Nairobi, New Delhi, Dubai and New York City. At these events, there will be hands-on opportunities, demos, entertainments and "opportunities to meet the Windows team," company officials said.Microsoft also will kick off the launch of Windows 10 in more than 110 Microsoft Stores in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico on the 29th, with in-store events designed to help customers upgrade to Windows 10.Microsoft plans a fan-focused Windows 10 launch kick-off

Hello there,

I have an issue with reusing this machine which days ago for inexplicable reasons stopped working.

Is it because the HD is an OEM with an already installed Windows XP Professional despite resetting BIOS that it doesn't kick hoff on Scaleo 600?

History: All of the sudden the previous 80GB WDWestern Digital HD was no more detected by BIOS on Scaleo 600, nor can it be read when installed on an external enclosure USB connected to perfectly working PC's and LapTop.

Hence I purchased a new OEM 320GB 7200 IDE from Maplin and tried to install my genuine Microsoft software Windows XP Home Edition followed by XP Professional Upgrade.

All failed because the HD was not detected by BIOS and I kept getting the "no operating system found" message on the black screen.
My conclusion was that either the power supply connectors to the HD, the ribbon cable or the disk itself were not OK.

Hence, I tested the HD on another unused FUJITSU-SIEMENS 1420 Celeron 1.7GHz 1GB DDR and in fact there were no problems to install Windows on that new HD and decided to go ahead.

Now that I have all my software installed on this smaller PC, working perfectly well, I want to run the new package on my other bigger Scaleo 600 4GB DDR which by surprise seems to be in order after resetting BIOS again. The Windows installation worked fine up to the black screen with various options stage. However, whatever I select the system returns again and again to the previous positi... Read more

as my issue was of no interest to the wide audience I decided to run SetUp and do a Repair. Possibly it's a boring thread related to old machines which however when correctly set work fine and fast.

Done! My files are still there though SP3's gone as well quite a few drivers which will have to be reinstalled and Windows has to be activate again.
