Hi,Running Windows 7 RTM x64 on both my PC at home and my workstation at work.My PC at home has a square monitor and my work PC has a widescreen monitor.I used webapps (citrix) from home to get into work environment then remoted to my workstation.Since doing that, when I am physically at the workstation (at work), I can no longer remote desktop to servers in full screen mode.  Instead, it does a smaller window with "full screen settings".  Basically the full screen remote desktop is about 3/4 size of the monitor, not 100%.Any help appreciated.-thanks

Hi,

I'm having a problem with BF2 where the game will crash with a
"BF2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."
error, right after the logo screen. The game doesn't enter full screen mode.

The first time I saw this error was when I was playing around with BattleRecorder (BF2's own recording engine), and I tried to launch a movie in BattleLauncher. This throws the error described above and I can't run BF2 again without getting the error until the computer is RESTARTED (no logoff and back on). I searched for a way to make Battlerecorder work and I gave up. But, the problem now seems to occur when Battlefield 2 is run for a second time. For example, if I turn on the computer, run BF2, play, close BF2, and try to play again without a restart, it crashes. I tried multiple things to fix this problem, and I eventually ended up downgrading my nvidia drivers to 84.21 (i was running 84.25 beta).

I THOUGHT this fixed the problem, but I must have only tried to open the game once when I went and downgraded the drivers, because it still happens. The only things I have installed recently are xfire, and I remember that that program threw me the error whenever I clicked somewhere inside the program to launch BF2 (xfire has a feature to launch bf2 for you so you can play with a friend). I suppose I should uninstall xfire... I'll try that now.

This computer is NEW, its got several games on it but its only a month old and it has no viruses or s... Read more

Hi, throughout the past week, I have been having a problem when I attempt to exit from any full screen application. Most of the time, the screen goes completely black, except for the mouse cursor. All inputs are responsive, and I am able to restart the computer using the keyboard, which fixes the problem. The problem occurs if full screen mode is interrupted in any manner(close, restore, minimize, etc.). I am planning to perform a series of tests tonight in an attempt to determine whether the problem is software or hardware related. In the mean time, I was hoping that someone here would have had experience with this manner of problem in the past. Last, but not least, here are the afflicted system's specifications:

AMD Athlon XP 2800+ processor
Biostar M7NCD Ultra motherboard w/ NVidia NForce 2 chipset
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro(Sapphire)
512 MB PC3200 RAM(2*256 dual channel)
Other system specifications available upon request

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi guys.

When I start a command prompt, and change to full screen mode, it automatically chooses 720x400 @ 70Hz. How do I change this please? It's not an ideal mode for my flat-screen monitor which has a native resolution of 1280x1024 - so for a DOS prompt in Full Screen mode a better resolution if it's available would be 640x512 or 1280x1024... so that each pixel is used a whole number of times. With 720x400 I get fuzzy...sharp...fuzzy...sharp...

Sorry for the long post.
I am having a problem running DOS in full screen mode. I have 2 programs that I need to use in DOS full screen. If I try to go full screen I get a colored bar across the top of the screen(color changes with the amount of colors I am using) and the machine locks up.

The computer is a clone that I just built. It is running Windows 98 SE and Office 97. Here is my hardware specs:

1.DFI AK75-EC Rev. A Motherboard with VIA Apollo KT133A chipset
2.AMD Duron 850MHz processor
3.128 MB PC133 RAM
4.ATI XPert 98 AGP Video CArd with Rage XL chipset
5.Linksys LNE100TX Etherfast Network card
6.On board Sound Blaster audio
7.EMachines 17" monitor

I have changed the resolution from 640 x 480 to 1280 x 1024 and all settings in between. I have also changed the amount of colors used from 256 colors to 32 bit. The only thing that has worked so far was replacing the video card with a PCI card, but it can't do 1024 x 768 resolution with 16 bit color. I know it is not the monitor because I can use a different machine with this monitor and it works like a champion

Ok I hope someone can please help me because this gets very frustrating for me. When I first bring up a video and go full screen (NFL football game) it works fine except I noticed I have to scroll down a little bit to get the bottom menu bar but the picture is still full screen on my TV (HDMI cable). But the first time I back out of full screen to maybe check an email or something, and then try to make it go full screen again, the window stays the same size but the picture itself is the only thing that tried to go full screen but I can only see about 25% of the actual video in that window. I dont know why it does this but I always have to restart my computer to make it work again but then I am stuck with the same problem once more. Any help? I have looked for remote desktop connections but I dont have any on my computer and I cant change any setting there.

I am trying to run IE in kiosk mode for certain shortcuts.

I have full screen mode turned on (F11) and then I remove access to IE to anyone except admins, this gives kiosk mode a close X, retore square, and minimize option(I want users to be able to close the windows without relying on keyboard shortcuts).

If they accidentally click on the restore square, it closes full screen mode. Then the window cannot be closed without ALT-F4.

Anyone know where I can set full screen mode in IE to stay on at all times?

Hi,

I apologize if this isn't the proper place for this, as well as for the seeming ridiculous nature of the "problem."

I was attempting to use a second monitor hooked up to my laptop in order to watch a movie on a larger screen. In attempting to get the screens to mirror properly, settings got changed and now I can't get it back to normal. I essentially don't know what I did. (Real good, right?)

Anyway, everything's stretched and large. I've already gone through display settings on my control panel, made sure it was on normal dpi, that font was set for normal size, but after fiddling around for some 30 minutes the screen is still stretched. Yeah, I'm a picky person, but I just can't operate this way. Even things within programs are stretched. For instance, in logging in to gmail I only see about 70% of what I used to be able to see without scrolling; everything is distorted and things don't fit in the same space. What am I missing to correct this? (And no, I never got the dual monitor thing to work, if that makes any difference.)

Thanks in advance!

A:Screen display stretching

Surely you have buttons on the front of the monitor to adjust the screen. Don't understand why you went to control panel.

PLEASE NOTE: I am not talking about maximizing my screen; I'm talking about playing games in Full Screen with the ability to zoom in and out with the scroll button on my mouse..... the games just aren't as fun without it.

Adobe Shockwave is the add on that I'm using I guess...but I don't know much about it and can't find a setting to fix it

Hi Gang, first post so please have a little patience...

Just finished building my new system and after a trip to tech support for Bios updates, all is working great. I use Windows XP and have loaded IE 7 and so far so good. IE 7 did not work well on my old machine but on the new one, no problems yet.

My question is: When I click on an Icon on my desktop to visit a website, it opens in a minimized size. I would like to have the site open in the full maximized size but can't recall how to do it. I'm pretty sure there is a way?

Thanks in advance for your help...

A:Opening in full screen mode...

You can open first browser window. then click on a link to open a second and with the second drag the corners to the edges of the screen, but do NOT hit the maximize icon. Close the first window, then the second (the order of closing is important). Then do file, close; (do not use the X button), then the next time you open a second browser window, IE saves the new default window size.

Open Internet Explorer
Shift + click a link to force it to open in a separate window
Alt + Tab to return to the first window
Close it, leaving only the small window open
Drag the window edges/corners to adjust the size
Close the resized window

Another way,
Open one IE browser window. Click on a link to open a second.
With the second, drag the corners to the edges of the screen.
Do 'Not' hit the maximize icon. Close the first window, then the
second (the order of closing is important).
Make sure you do File, Close; do 'Not use the X button!
Might have to reboot.

Either way the next time you open a second browser window,
IE saves the new default window size.

I have two displays of which both are running on a single GTX 280. One is a 24" DCLCD monitor while the second is a 42" full HDTV using an HDMI cable. My issue is that when I try to drag a movie in vlc player or any other program over to my 42" TV and try to full screen it, it jumps over on my primary display. No matter what program I use to view a movie in when I try to change it to full screen it flips over to my primary. I never had this issue when I was running my 8800s or pre 180 drivers. I can maximize the program itself but I can't run the move in full screen mode on my secondary display. Also I'm running it in expanded view mode.

It is possible - on Nvidia cards.
I managed it the other week.
You need to define the second screen as the (fullscreen) playback device for films, etc.
I can't tell you where just at the moment as it only shows whilst the second screen is active and I'm watching TV

Hi,

I'm having a few problems whilst running things in full screen mode. I'm trying to run a couple of games in full screen mode, but every so often it just minimises and I have to click back to open them up again. As you can probably tell this is extremely annoying.

This doesn't just happen in game however, something else happens even when using Chrome and typing this. As I type right now, it will randomly click off this window as if a popup has come up and I have to click back into this text box to type otherwise it just makes the windows error noise when you try and type in a box that you can't type in.

I have no idea why it's doing this, any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
M

Welcome wizinijsh.

Have you tried the search function of the forums to see if there are similar threads on your issue?

If not you will be far better off creating a thread giving a full explanation off what your issue is.

Can you also fill in your system specs so we know what your system is. You will find that if you look at the top of the screen you will see usercp, click on it and when the page loads look down the left hand side and you will see system specs(or something similar). Proceed to fill in.

hi there
hope i can make myself understandable.

For 2 weeks i suddenly have this problem.

whenever i open up something, it comes up in Full Screen Mode, and not
a smaller window like normal.

If it is a new letter in outlook, Alt-ctrl-del (window task manager), or
pages within a internet site. "in the old days" a new page would open op in ex. Half page size (i know you can decide the size).
but now everything opens up in Full Screen (maximize size), so for me to return to the original page, i have to press the bar in the toolbar in the buttom.
If it would open up in minimize size, but the whole screen, then i can make it smaller, and after a few times, it will automatically opens up in this size.
but i don't have this option anymore.

i have tried to change all kinds of options, but nothing helps.

can anyone help??

have a nice weekend

A:windows opens up in Full Screen mode!

Hi

If you navigate to any such program that opens in full size in the Start Menu.. right-click>properties> under the "shortcut" tab>Run .. does it say normal window?

Unless someone changed that a piece of software will open in a normal window. If you resize it by r.clicking in the top left corner and choosing the size, then close the window.. the next time it starts it should be in the size you last chose. UNless, you've changed the options for the software, in its options/properties/preferences whatever is there, to open in full mode. Only a little bit of playing around will lead you to where.

Next time it opens in full screen, hit F11 and see if that changes it back down. Close the software and it should reopen in the same size you left it last.

I think there is a mode on windows xp you can enter so games such as world of warcraft wont' run in full screen. I don't know how to access this mode thouhg, but would like to because without eveyrthing in full screen it will use less of my computers resources and this way my computer won't freeze up. Can anyone tell me how to enter this mode?

A:How to enter a mode where things don't appear in full screen

Well, I'm only guessing, but I think it depends on the game, not on Windows, whether or not you can play it in windowed mode.

Also, I don't think you would gain much with it. Once I tried playing a game in window mode. When I set it up, it warned me to think over twice, because in window mode I possibly will experience performance problems, glitches, etc., and that full screen is better.
Usually games use the same resolution in full screen as in window mode, so, I think, it requires the same computing performance. It's seems only logical that if Windows has to update the desktop besides the game screen, it consumes more resources than the game screen alone.

Performance problems are generally addressed by expanding RAM, defragging HDD, cleaning the OS from virus/Spyware, etc. But someone with expertise might know better.

Hello to all. I'm running Win XP Pro and I just recently started having some display problems with a few programs. I haven't added any new hardware or software recently. My problem is this. Some of my games and other programs have an option to go to the full screen mode. However, every time I attempt to do so with any of these programs, Windows XP immediately shuts down and my computer reboots. I can use all of these programs in the windowed mode with no problem. I thought that maybe my DirectX needed updating so I did so. That didn't fix anything at all. I've run diagnostics on my video hardware and DirectX and it tests fine. Does anyone here have any ideas as to what the problem with the full screen mode might be? Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

All of a sudden (like, these things don't happen s-l-o-w-l-y!!) for no reason I can imagine, windows are not opening in the way I am used to. Heh, if you maximize your window using the upper right boxes, you are not supposed to be able to move it around.

About the windows opening not maximized all the way. This used to happen to me, but somehow fixed it self.

This issue started occuring a few weeks after I purchased my computer, basically when watching a video on youtube or netflix or any video compatible site, the screen will turn back to normal size. This is very frusterating as I watch a show on netflix and can't keep the screen on the full screen mode. At first i lost sound whenever i put the computer in sleep or hibernate mode. then i just said screw it and Dl'd the last known sound driver for my comp which was only the 32 bit IDT sound driver.

that fixed the issue but now whenever i put whatever im watching into full screen mode, i get this static sound and it seems like that video is lagging along with the sound. i did however installed the latest driver for my Nvidia 8800 graphics card also.

anyone got a answer to this, i tried re installing the drivers but that was no go. help please

A:Sound issues when going into Full screen mode

Generally, when video is affecting the sound it's the Video hardware or drivers. It could also be a memory (or lack of) issue since most laptop video "cards" use RAM for all or part of their memory.

One thing (or two) to try - uninstall the sound in the Device Manager (do not uninstall the drivers) then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This "refresh" can fix flakey problems and sometimes will also put the sound on a different IRQ (Interrupt) and fix flakey problems. You can try the same thing with the video and see if makes a difference.

So for a while now I've had an issue where anything that's in full screen it will randomly minimize. This includes games and videos. I don't get notifications from any programs. Sometimes it'll minimize once an hour and sometimes it'll minimize every 5 minutes so it's totally random. I've searched literally everywhere for a fix and I just cannot find a single one. Please if anyone has had this issue leave you solution here. I'm currently running windows 8.1.

I should probably also say that if i'm running a game in full screen it minimizes but if i have a video playing on a browser in full screen it'll just go to windowed mode.

Hi all, I have a really annoying problem with my NEW computer.
I play videos in full screen mode, then randomly maybe after 5 mins, sometimes more.
The sound and video just freezes and i cannot do anything other than reset the power.
I experience this problem on.. DVD Movies, Youtube, BBC Iplayer, Google Videos...
Sometimes when I put the videos into fullscreen, it stutters... but if i minimize and then
go full screen again... its ok !?!?!

I have the latest drivers and patches for all my devices and my computer is up to date.
Is this something any of you have come across? and if you could advise a fix...?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hey everyone, I'm having issues with opening some programs into full-screen mode, these programs include; Warcraft 3, Znesw (Emulator) and also Dosbox.

Here is the problem - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kslmBNejfFo

What basically happens is, when I open any of these programs they open, but when I try to engage them into full-screen mode they make then screen black for a second or two and then they are pretty much minimized.
When I try to restore them from being minimized, it once again goes black and minimizes the program.

What I have tried:
-Running a virus scan
-Restarting PC
-Running as administrator, Windows Xp, Vista, etc.

Thank you for your time.

Hey Gang,

I have a movie that shows up really well in Windows Media Player Win98 version. I don't know if that's the real title, but its the version of WMP that came installed with Windows 98.

Anyway, I'm having difficulty getting it to play in Full Screen Mode. Does anybody know how to get this in to play in full screen?

Are there any shortcut keys like cntl + enter or something like that?

hello, here is the description
my father's laptop windows xp with ie7. also has aol installed. java is current.
appears that ie7 is stuck open in full-screen mode. it is located on the right half of the monitor.
left half of monitor still has desktop background and icons. computer seems to function normally other than this.

the stuck ie7 doesnot have the address bar, tool bar, or blue heading bar at the very top of typical ie pages; it does have the menu bar with File, Edit, View, Favorites, etc. the default browser page is google, and stuck ie7 can be used for google search. if so, it bringsup a second ie7 with the search results.

it does not s how up as any application in task manager. and the task manager processes do not show Iexplore.exe running.

av software is mcafee, have also run kaspersky online av check and spybot and nothing unusual was found.

i have restarted and rebooted several times, the stuck ie7 comes back.

tried the F11 key as it is used to bring ie out of the full screen mode but the F11 key has no effect.

thanks

Hello cobalt5002,

That is a strange problem, the event viewer may give some clues as to the problem.

Event viewer can be found in control panel under administrative tools. On the left hand side there are groups called application, security etc. open each group and search for errors and warnings.

Also, could you provide a screenshot of the problem?

Basically, my laptop has a dense native resolution of 3200x1800, meaning there is literally no way I can expect to run games at my native resolution without horrible lag.

But when I try to run the game at a lower resolution (in fullscreen) it doesn't stretch the image, but rather just leaves a tiny rectangle among a massive black border.

Dark Souls II specifically, will stretch, and fit beautifully.
Dragon Age: Inquisition, however, doesn't.

Also, its worth noting some programs act like this as well.
For example, Steam renders appropriately (although fuzzy), but origin renders 'to-scale', and looks tiny.

A:Window not stretching to fit screen at lower resolutions.

On some games/programs , you must use 100% scaling and low res, e.g. 720p to get rid of the black boxes around since those programs don't support scaling.

Hello,
hopefully someone will be able to help me.
The problem? Every dos shell that gets invoked when I execute an application is displayed in full screen mode.
If I do a pull right mouse on the DOS shell icon I can see that it's properties are not set to 'full screen' but to 'window mode'. In fact, double clicking on it opens a regular size DOS shell. But pretty much every win32 applications gets executed in full screen. This is very annoying because (problem number 2) my Securemote client spawns a process every minute or so that causes a DOS shell to be splashed on the screen in full window mode.
Can anyone give a hand to resolve this? I'm thinking that somewhere in the registry there is the option to set the display properties of applications.
Thank you,
Andrea P.

A:I don't get steam notifications when on youtube on full screen mode

You dont get steam notifications because YouTube full screen mode is not part of steam. You get steam notifications in full screen games because the game is coded to show them. In other words, no you cannot get steam notifications over full screen YouTube videos.

I did not know that no matter which choice I made it would make permanant changes to YT functionality regarding video sizes. Small screen no longer works either and my only choise is Theater Mode. How to I change the setting back to having a choice in video size for any video on YT? Hello there!

As threat title suggests, I am struggling with (any, not only HD) lagging video playback on full screen mode in Chrome only. I've looked up for the solution on google and triet (I think) all possible fixes, but neither of them worked so far.

What I did:
- updated my graph card drivers to the latest
- downloaded & installed the latest adobe flash player
- disabled 'pepflashplayer' plugin in Chrome
- disabled hardware acceleration in Chrome
- cleared my temp files/cookies/history etc.
- cleaned my comp from trash in general & errors in registry
- restarted comp several times in the process

I have even formatted my computer, but no change in that matter...

Nothing helped. I noticed its Chrome issue only. I've runned out of fixes to apply. Any suggestions?

Ah one more thing -> I noticed that 'pepflashplayer' is the only plugin in Chrome relating to Flash... I think that videos are playing on HTML5.

I attach my DxDiag if that helps...

Any help appreciated!

This is a Pavillion x360 Convertable 15-bk010nr. Using Windows 10 64 bit. When reading websites and a video is available, all I see is a black screen (most of the time) with a ?handle? at the bottom center. Sometimes I will see a photo with a play arrow, but that is rare. If I click play, it turns black. If I can get the video to start playing, I can hear it, but can't see the video unless I blindly click in the area where the full screen button should be and get it to open in full screen mode. How can I get these videos to play normally in the website without having to go full screen? Hi all,

I have really bad lag when running any application that requires full screen mode. I've got the latest AMD drivers that supports my GFX card (Asus Radeon 4850). I used to have a Nvidia card and I would just change one of the settings to get rid of the lag. I changed the Graphics card and reformatted the computer so it shouldn't be a driver issue. I have Service Pack 1 and all the updates for Windows installed.

The lag is unbearable for games, so I can't play any games that require full screen, no issues when it's run in windowed mode. I've used FPS monitors while running games (Fraps and MSI afterburner) and the frame rates readings are normal (above 60 always) but it always looks like 20-ish no matter which game I play.

For videos there's always some kind of problem. Used various media players, and different browsers for flash videos but sometime the video skips to the end very quickly, or won't continue playing and halts immediately somewhere along the way.

Used MSI Kombustor to stress out the GPU, and it maxes at 70? at 100% load. Directx 10 stress test seems to be blurry, every other test seems fine to run but would have the lag from being in full screen.

I searched online for possible solutions but couldn't find anything so far. Please help.

I just good dual Dell monitors, one 20" and one 22." I want to set them with the 20" for my browser in landscape and the 22" for writing in portrait.

I was able to do that except for one problem. The 22" in portrait doesn't fill up the entire screen. There is about 4" of black on the top and bottom (kinda defeats the purpose).

The 22" is set for the recommended resolution (1680x1050) and that's as high as it goes.

Any ideas?

A:can FULL SCREEN MODE be stopped for online games??

To get back to the desktop from nearly any fullscreen game, press and hold down "Alt", press "Tab", and then release both keys. (this is called doing an Alt-Tab). All this does is task-switch to the next runing user application in the Windows Taskbar. If the game is the only application running in the taskbar, then you just get back to the desktop. Pressing the Windows-logo Key on the keyboard can also effectyively do the same thing.
The behavior of this function varries slightly from game to game and machine to machine, so you may see a pause or a delay as the system mode-switches from the screen resolution that the game was running at to the screen resolution that the windows desktop is set to. Some games will pause when the Alt-Tab function is called, but usualy the game will simply be running in the background when you are Alt-Tabed to the desktop.

There is no way for you to universaly make all CD-ROM games that run on the MS Windows operating system run only in "Windowed mode" (as opposed to full-screen mode). You would have to go and find out if and how you can get each individual game to run in Windowed mode, and then make the nessisary changes for each game. Even if you did that, a game would likely default to full-screen mode the next time you started one, and frankly I doubt that the games would even have a windowed mode. Most of the games released in the last five years were full-screen only.

Why don't you just get a second PC ... Read more

After trying some things (that didn't work) that seemed like they would work I decided to ask for help. I have two monitors, a large 1080p one which is plugged into my graphics card and a smaller 4:3 VGA monitor for secondary tasks that's plugged into my motherboard. Although I have not tested this issue with other video streaming services, it seems that YouTube (although it could be other services as well) will crash whenever I put a video in full screen mode on my larger (primary) monitor.

That being said, my computer will NOT crash when I use full screen mode on my smaller, secondary monitor.

My computer also does not crash while playing/using any games or programs in full screen, with the exception of WildStar (more on that later).

I have gone through device manager and searched for every update I could find for my devices, and I have also ran through GeForce Experience to update my video drivers as well, so none of my hardware is out of date.

I have tried disabling certain devices to see if there was an issue with those (I had gotten some new peripherals at the time) and it has not fixed the problem either.

I have ran a memtest through windows, and although most people say that memtest86 (or whatever it's called) is more reliable, I figured that since the windows memtest came clean, and an issue with RAM causing a blue screen just from YouTube, I decided that it would be extremely unlikely that RAM would be the issue since I can run pretty much every program I have... It doesn't matter if it is a windows media player video or an online video. Also I think this might be related to another problem I always have. It happens quite often when I type. My cursor just disappears, the default beep sounds, and I have to take my mouse and click where I want to type to be able to continue typing. It is almost like another window is trying to open. You know how if a pop up window comes up, the cursor is suddenly on that window? Well it is like there is an invisible window that captured my cursor. Please help me with this.

My HP pc is less than 1 year old. The problem is that when I watch a youtube video (or other videos or movies) in full screen mode, the picture quality is not good (not sharp, blurry). It is sharper when picture is smaller.

My screen resolution is at the highest now (display is 1440 x 900). I have been googling this subject for a long time, but I cannot find any advice anywhere.

FYI, my computer's graphics are "Desktop performance for Windows Aero" and Gaming graphics are "3D business and graphics performance". I guess it is not the best but I do not know if graphics is the reason the picture/movie doesn't look good in full screen.

My friend bought a very basic least expensive lap top and she can watch movies on it in full screen mode in excellent quality.

SO I wonder what is the problem. Do I need to adjust something? Do I need to improve graphics? How? I would appreciate your help in this matter

A:Why does the Player stop playing in full-screen mode?

It is a feature of Windows Media Player, not a fault
It will automatically pause when manually selecting "Full Screen" (I suspect just to allow you to get ready)
You then need to press "Play" to play it again

Can I also suggest that you try another Media Player > Free VLC Media Player
It does an excellent job at playing most movies (anyway, much more than WMP) And is very easy to use, and I use it

1.Make sure you are using the latest version of Flash. To check your version and to upgrade, see Adobe's instructions.
2.Navigate to a page that shows a video that you can't view in full screen.
3.Right-clickHold down the Ctrl key while you click on the video player and click Settings... in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.

Whenever i try to watch a video on youtube or dailymotion via full screen my video consistently exits full screen after 20-30 seconds of play. This happens every time without fail and happens again when i re activate full screen mode.

Initially i thought the problem was with my flash player but files played via full screen via windows media player seem to do the exact same thing though they seem to take a bit longer, about 60-80 seconds before they exit full screen mode?

Ive been fiddleing around for ages and i can't remedy the problem so if anyone out there can help me i would be very much appreciative.

Im using windows vista home premium btw.

Hi all you guru's out there, I am running xp with avg antivirus 9 with nvidia graphics card. I have updated all the drivers to try to fix this problem. Oh the problem, right, well.. when playing perfect world on full screen the screen goes black and then the game minimises to the task bar, i click on the icon and it restores. This happens every 20 minutes or so. If i play in windowed mode it doesnt do it but the game freezes every 10 minutes unless there is constant mouse activity. This only seems to have started happening since i upgraded to avg version 9. Could it be this program causing it and if so can you recommend another RELIABLE free antivirus program. Also i was unable to do a system restore, could this all be connected.
I thank you in anticipation that you can help as you know far more than me.

I have a 3-monitor desktop setup running Windows 8.1 (as a host OS.) I use one monitor exclusively to run VMWare Workstation 10. When VMWare first loads up at host PC boot I click "Enter full screen mode" button, which expands it to the size of that monitor. I then usually load several guest OS's into it.

My host OS is set up to show a password protected screensaver after 5 minutes and then turn off the screen after 20 minutes of inactivity.

So what I've been noticing (and yes, this is repeatable) is that sometimes when I wake the screen & log in to my host computer in the morning, most of the guest VMs don't seem to respond and show just a back screen. (Note that it doesn't happen all the time and is somewhat sporadic.) Here's a quick animated GIF screengrab to show what happens afterwards:

As you can see, only the first VM seems to respond to clicks, the rest appear dead. Note that if I try to send Ctrl+Alt+Del keyboard sequence to any of those "hung up" guest VMs nothing happens. The only way to recover from this bug is to force-quit the VMWare Workstation itself, or reboot the host PC, which are both analogous to me flipping the power switch on all guest VMs (with data being lost in them) which is very annoying!

So I'm curious if anyone knows a way to recover from this bug w/o force-quitting the VMs?
PS. I obviously posted this question on VMWare forums, but to be honest, I don't have much faith in them. I tried it before and I never get re... Read more

Hello,
The past couple of days i've been experiencing unusual behaviour from my computer. For the past few days I've been having crashing problems. The crashes aren't all the same however; on a handful of occasions it's given the famous old 'blue screen of death' and on others my computer either just turns off, or the whole computer just crashes. I've noticed the crashes only occur when I turn the computer to 'full peformance' mode after a couple of minutes meaning I'm literally unable to leave power save mode for more than 3 minutes.

I use 'EPU-4 Engine' to switch my computer between 'power save' mode and 'full peformance' mode only using full peformance if I want to play games or install something.

I didn't think much of this at start, as i've never had these problems before 2 days ago. I figured it may have been a faulty driver, so I downloaded specific ones for hardware, but that didn't solve the problem. I then tried a system restore to restore back to a previous date presuming it may have been an update that went wrong, but nothing changed, I still got the crashes. My final solution if nobody is unable to help is to reinstall windows and hope it's just some sort of error, but I doubt that'll fix it.

I run Windows 7 64 bit Home Edition,
AMD Phenom II x4 964,
ATI 5850 Graphics card,
4 GB's of Ram

Hopefully somebody will be able to provide me with some advice... Read more

A:Computer crashing/blue screen during 'full peformance' mode.

Sounds like the operating system is struggling if you ask me. Have you tried doing this in safe mode? And what's EPU-4 Engine? Otherwise I think reinstalling windows is the solution.

Hi there
Anybody running W8.1 in UNITY mode -- that WRETCHED Store app always starts in FULL SCREEN - so I can't get to desktop.

I never did like these Stinking "Store" things -- and why it even STARTS when I don't want the app at all is beyond me -- also you can't seem to un-install it -- I've removed from Taskbar and Start menu - no avail.

(Running Windows 8.1 on a colleagues Mac -- where I spotted the problem -- however it occurs also if you are running on PC's as well).

This is WINDOWS 8.1 Update 1.

Cheers

A:I HATE Store app- Unity mode always starts in FULL SCREEN

did you try this? Store - Enable or Disable in Windows 8

I'm not using Unity (and haven't opened store for months either intentionally or automatically) but it might help. Luckily for me after unpinning it from the taskbar it was never seen again.

Worth a try I guess.

Hi;

Purchased a new PC running Vista 32-bit and when I use the Media Center app, I can't
figure out how to get DVD's, TV, etc into "FULL-SCREEN MODE"? I seem to recall it ordinarily
has an option where you can toggle back and forth between full and reduced screen sizes,
I just can't seem to find it, nor anything on the internet other than suggestions that apply
to Media Player- not Medis Center.

Any suggestions would be genuinely appreciated- thanks!

I have a problem when viewing videos in full screen mode. What happens to me is that no matter what Video player I use the mouse cursor will snap to a certain location on the screen in spite of my moving it off to the side when I'm running that player in Full Screen Mode. I want to make the cursor disappear altogether when viewing the video in full screen. This happens with any mouse I attach via USB. I am running Vista Home Premium 64bit with an ATI 4600 series video card. I have searched for updated drivers and Windows tells me the driver for the card is the latest driver. The cursor will even appear when I detach the mouse and it will land in the same place (off center) all the time. It will disappear for a few seconds and then reappear. Any ideas?

A:How do I get the Mouse cursor to disappear completely in Full Screen Mode?

Have you tried in VLC Media Player yet? In VLC, your mouse should automatically fade out no matter where on the screen it is.

Hi All

I have a HP Envy M6 running Windows 8.1 and until this week have had no issues.
A few days ago while watching a movie in full screen it started exiting full screen to standard screen and I had to click the full screen button to get it back. This continues to happen every 3 minutes still while watching streaming content. All other functions of the PC and applications I use are fine and I have not downloaded any new software.

Here's what I've done so far to try and resolve:

I verified that the problem occurs on IE, Chrome & FirefoxI ran the HP update utility to see if all drivers etc were current and they were.I checked Windows updates to ensure all software was updated to the latest version and it was.I verified that Adobe Flash Player was up to dateI uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash playerI disabled Active x and subsequently reactivated.I've completed a system restore and re-updated all applications and firmware.

The problem still exists.

Has anyone else had this problem and do you have any further suggestions I might try?

Thanks in advance

Seamus

Hey all,

I'm having this wierd problem with 2 games now, America's Army, and the new Battlefield1942 demo. I'm on a 64meg Radeon8500. When I launch the game I get this wierd screen thats blueish, and really 'snowy' and flickery, kind of like what you get when you try to watch channels on your TV you don't get, or try to watch cable TV channels without the cable plugged in, or when a movies credits are done and its running blank tape. I cant navigate/see the interface at all.

I took a screenshots to show to my friend with Printscreenbut when I copy the screenshot into paint, the screenshot shows the interface as it should be perfectly fine. I was using the 6098 drivers when this happened. So I upgraded to the 6018s and and 6118s and its still happening.

Another wierd thing is it doesn't happen to America's Army when I run it in windowed mode. Battlefield1942 won't go windowed.

So does anyone know what the heck is up and how I fix it? I'd be extremely grateful. Even if they both could run in windowed mode I still would like to fix the problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi there

running latest build as a VM on a Linux Host (VMware workstation v 12.01) the taskbar can't be accessed in FULL SCREEN mode if the taskbar is selected to be at the BOTTOM of the screen.

It works fine if you have the taskbar positioned at the sides or the Top !!!! Go figure !

Not a mega show stopper but I still prefer the taskbar to be at the bottom.

Running the same W10 (latest build) as a VM on a WINDOWS host (W7 or another W10 system) taskbar works even at the bottom.

this is probably a VMware / Linux video driver problem so I don't see a fix to this any time soon.

BTW the same problem also happens with a W7 VM on a Linux host using VMware workstation build 12.0.1

note in Windowed mode taskbar works correctly wherever on the screen it is selected.

Cheers

Hi,
I just got a laptop a few days ago [Specs : AMD Sempron 2.1Ghz, 3 Gb Ram, Nvedia G800 card, Win Vista Basic Pack 1] and i'm having trouble watching online TV in full screen mode.
It plays fine in the small windows but when i try to play on f-screen, whilst the sound is fine, the images are slow. Actually 'slow' is maybe not the right word so i'll try to describe it: it's as if you are continously clicking pause every second whilst playing a DVD, the images get stuck for abt a second even if i don't have anything else running and i wait 5-10min.
Reason i posted here is because i really don't have a clue as to the origin of the problem.
Could someone please help me cos i need to know whether i'l be keepin this laptop or whether i'm gonna bring it back (assuming i can get a full refund of course!)

Many thanks in advance!

PS: If that's of any help, plz note that the site i have used for the above is http://www.justin.tv
I have used my friend's laptop (with more or less same specs as mine), using the same internet connection, on the same site, but this time it plays perfectly in full screen mode!
I also noticed that i could play YouTube videos in full screen mode without the problem above. Maybe it's 'cos Youtube uses Flash? then again i'm not an expert at all....
Anything else, please ask i'll provide the info ASAP.

Hey,

Whenever I open Media Center or Flight Simulator X in full screen mode, the screen has a bunch of little RGB dots on it. This must be a software problem, since I just upgraded from 64-bit Vista Ultimate to 32-bit Vista Ultimate (Since my iPhone will not work with x64 Vista ). I tried google, and not a whole lot came up. I'm not an expert on RegEdit, but I'm sure I can figure things out if someone could just give a few quick steps to changing a registery value or whatever else needs to be done.

I'm also having a problem with the view settings: I had this problem real bad with Vista beta, but it is starting to pop up again. Not as bad, but every once in a while it will resize the windows to the defult size and sometimes switch to the 'list' view.

Any ideas? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!!

Is there a way to stop the desktop version of Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1 from prompting whether you want a website to display content in full-screen mode?
When it displays the prompt "Do you want to view youtube.com in full screen?  (Press Esc to exit.)", if you select 'Always Allow', it doesn't permanently remember this setting, as it will be reset when the browsing history is deleted.
Surely there must be a setting somewhere to prevent it from displaying this prompt every time?

Hi all,
Been having a few computer troubles, last couple of days. Up until now, I have never had a computer crash since building my machine. Occasionally I've had to force-quit a program, but never random crashes.

I've had 6 in the last day or so, though. And none of them have happened with a BSoD. The last one to happen was while watching a movie. I Ctrl+Alt+Del'd and it got stuck showing a message "preparing security options..." with the time-circle(?), but never progressed past that point.

They all seem to happen at random, regardless of what I do. When playing full-screen games, watching full-screen movies, or even just sitting idling. I've tried updating my MOBO BiOS, my gfx driver, tried taking out and setting the RAM again, and even ran a full-system scan with both anti-virus and with CCleaner.

I'm afraid I'm not sure what I should do.

I tried to upload the files from the SF_Diagnostic_Tool, but got a message saying I didn't have the correct Security Token?

If there's any other information that you require of me, please don't hesitate to ask.

A:Computer crashes randomly; full-screen games, full screen movies

Put the files on Dropbox or Skydrive and post a link here. Will have a look

Hi what is, I'm running Win 8 in Oracle VirtualBox version 4.1.4, and I'm finding the screen size to be small. I also run Ubuntu in virtualBox, and it has a big screen. Anybody any ideas on how to increase the screen size. Thanks

A:Win 8 screen size in Virtualbox

Hello Robin,

While running the Windows 8 VM in VirtualBox, you should be able to open the desktop from the Metro "Start" screen to change the screen resolution to a higher resolution the same way as in Windows 7 to have the VirtualBox window be larger.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
