Microsoft Outlook 2010 - "Changes made to the item were lost due to a reconnect"

Q: Microsoft Outlook 2010 - "Changes made to the item were lost due to a reconnect"

Some users I support (Office 2010) are coming across this issue while creating a meeting or new message, stepping away and returning to the message to receive the error-
"Changes made to the item were lost due to a reconnect to the server"

This forces them to close the message and redo everything and is causing quite an inconvenience.

I have tried reinstalling the nic/wifi drivers, changing the network provider order, cleaning tasks and free/busy, creating new outlook profiles and repairing office. Same result.

Any assistance or input is appreciated.

A: Microsoft Outlook 2010 - "Changes made to the item were lost due to a reconnect"

Are the Outlook clients connecting to an Exchange server, or to a POP or IMAP account like gmail? If it is an Exchange server, is it on premise or hosted somewhere else? Are the clients connected to a workgroup, a domain, or are the users working from home or remotely?

We have a user here running Office 2010 on Windows 7 Enterprise x64.

He's having issues when he tries to FORWARD an email that has pdf or excel attachment. This issue is seldom, occuring maybe 1 out of 10 times or so. When clicking send, he simply gets a "Cannot send this item." error message. I've done some research, and tried switching him over to Rich text when sending. This did not help. What is interesting, is that if he continues to try and send the message, it eventually sends. If I remove the attachment, the message also seems to send without any issues. If he copies and pastes the content into a new email, and drags the attachments over to the new email as well, it also sends. He has the latest updates with Office and Adobe Reader XI. Internet connection is fine. I've tried recreating his Outlook profile as well, with no luck. I haven't identified any issues with the users' signature or other sketchy text within the message.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Much exasperation here. All of a sudden last night, out of the blue, my Outlook 2010 no longer opens my email. Messages continue to arrive but every attempt to open them generates the message "Cannot Open the Item." I have no idea what is going on.

I can open these same messages in my iPhone without problem, but not in my laptop. My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. The only visual anomaly I can see is that some icon appears in the Sort By: Header Status column. I don't recognize the icon and don't recall ever seeing it before. Those messages without the icon can be opened. Those with this icon, which is every email received since last night, cannot be opened. I've attached a screenshot.

What gives?

Hello,
I recently upgraded to Outlook 2010 and I am a "massive" user of the advanced find feature. I need to be able to see the item count result of my searches - just like it was on Outlook 2003. Unfortunately, I see that the advanced find window on 2010 doesn't have a status bar and therefore, I can't see the item count result.
Here are two screenshots to exemplify what I am talking about:
Outlook 2003 Advanced Find Results | marchie.net
Outlook 2010 Advanced Find Results | marchie.net
Does anyone have a solution for this?

BTW:
1 -> the solution offered in the links I gave is not good for me).
2 -> I know it is possible to create a new search folder that would show item count, BUT, I have *tons* and *tons* of different criterias for search that I use all the time - I can't create a predifined search folder for each type of search that I need because:
a) I really have too many different criterias
b) some criterias appear as work comes, i.e., they are not something I can predict before and I need the results fast (no time to be creating a new search folder for this)
Isn't there a tweak to simply restore the good old status bar that was oh so simple in showing the results item count?
Thanks in advance,
DrCr4zy

A:Outlook 2010 - Advanced Find - No Status Bar = No Item Count

I had a similar problem, but within a Windows 7 search (files and folders) not within Outlook specifically, and it took me ages to stumble across something that might help other people trying to do this same operation. (It seems there are no real results when this question is googled...)

In my folder of search results, I chose the option to "select all" then right clicked with all selected and chose "properties" - the "General Information" tab lists how many files and folders are part of the search result. It's clumsy, but it did the trick for me in a pinch. Hope it helps someone else too.

Lately, whenever I send forwarded messages that contain images/pictures, the pictures arrive at their destinations smaller than how they were sent. That is, they may be sent what looks like 3"X3" but they arrive 1/2"X1/2". Is there a setting in Outlook that I need to make in order to correct this situation? Thanks for any and all replies.

I am thinking on doing a kind of computer mod but I need to have a specific part that I have not seen made.

I need some kind of expansion ribbon connectors for PCI, PCIE and basically something that will connect into a MB's slot but then be plyable enough to bend and twist (like a ribbon cable) but then at the end have a standard connector to it.

Does lenth of this type of cable (if it exists) matter? I have some ideas but I would need something of this sort to pull it off. basically I cant have the cards jutting out that wide from the MB so I want to mount them elsewhere and horizontally along with the MB.

Hi,

I configured a wireless network in my house a few days ago. I am using a D-Link DIR-300 Wireless router.

Everything has been working perfectly for 2 days until just an hour ago.

Suddenly the wireless connection was lost (no internet and no connection to router possible anymore via wireless), then Vista automatically tries to reconnect --> with success. connection is there again --> everything working fine for a few minutes --> then connectin gets lost again --> reconnect and so on.

I have tried it with a different Notebook and the same problem is there also. When the connection gets lost, it is on the other notebook lost also.

What could the cause for this be?

regards

I have several IMAP accounts setup in Outlook 2010. Autocomplete for frequently used email addresses on creating a new message has been working fine. Two days ago, I set up a new Outlook email account using the new account wizard. This successfully configured a new Microsoft Exchange account in addition to the existing IMAP accounts. However, the autocomplete function has lost the previous store of email addresses and has started learning them all over again.

It seems the autocomplete data is stored in \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\RoamCache. I've listed my files below but I can't work out how to force Outlook to use the autocomplete file it was previously using. How do I fix this? Note there are three autocomplete files but Outlook is currently using the small recent file instead of the older larger file which presumably contains the data I need.

I recevied an email from "Microsoft" becuase I recently registered for (office.com)
I registered, and then they sent me an email with a link to click on (to verify my email address)

It had a big blue box that said "verify [my email address]"
When I click on it AND hover over it, it will NOT take me to the link.
It just shows a big box with a long link, and on the bottom left hand corner of the box it says click to follow link.

But like I said, I cannot click it. (well I can click it, its just that nothing happens)
I can't even highlight the link that shows up in the box, so at least I could copy and paste it in the URL.

Any help would be apprechaited....

Thanks

If you hover over the blue box and right-click, do you get the option to 'Copy hyperlink'. If so, select that option then paste the link in your browser.

How many email accounts and Inboxes do you have?
Are all the accounts IMAP accounts? If so, separate Inboxes (.pst files) is the designed behavior.
POP accounts should all go to the same Inbox.

A:Microsoft outlook 2010

Hi Larry welcome to SF . Try these steps
Method 1:

Start->Start Search > then type the following -> "Outlook.exe /resetnavpane" without the quotes.
(Look for the space between outlook.exe and /)

Method 2:

Check if Outlook is in a compatibility mode:
1> Open My Computer>Local Disk C>Program Files>Microsoft Office>Office 14>Outlook.exe.
(If you are using a 64 bit machine, go to C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office>Office 14>Outlook.exe)

2> Right click on Outlook.exe and click on Properties and then click on Compatibility tab. Check if you have any check mark in any of the compatibility mode options. Make sure you also click on the option "change settings for all users" tab at the bottom of the same screen and look for similar check boxes in the window.

3> If you see any check boxes in the compatibility mode options, uncheck all the boxes and click on Apply and OK.

4> Try to open outlook again

Hi there,

I'm using Thunderbird mail and download my mail via IMAP, This has got a great advantage as I can access my emails on my iPhone and iPad.

So I switched my Dad to IMAP too. He is using Outlook 2010 and it works great however the problem is that when moving a mail from the inbox to a folder in Outlook 2010 it takes a bout 5 -7 seconds to move (looks like it communicates with the server while you wait) and by POP it takes less then a second. Is there any solution for this?

Because by Thunderbird it takes the same amount of time, no matter if you use POP or IMAP.

Your assistance would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for all your answers!

This is a story of two computers. The old one is a Dell and the replacement is an HP (also old - but works fine).
My Dell desktop quit working recently. Discussions on a hardware forum indicated possible motherboard failure. The Dell had two hard drives. The C Drive with the OS (Win 7) and Office 2010 (email with Outlook 2010) and the D Drive with all my personal files.
To make sure I preserved the hard drives I obtained an adapter, took the hard drives out, read them both with my laptop, so both drives are fine.
I located a used HP desktop from which its hard drive had been removed. I hooked up my D Drive to the HP and installed Windows 7 and Office 2010. All of my personal files remained intact.
I set up Outlook 2010 which automatically found my two email accounts but my address book and contacts list did not appear.
I still have my Dell's C Drive hooked to my laptop. The C Drive from my old Dell still has the Windows 7 OS and Office 2010.
I've located two places on the C Drive that appear to have Outlook files:
Users - Me - AppData - Local - Microsoft - Outlook
Users - Me - AppData - Roaming - Microsoft - Outlook
I don't know how to read those files, I don't know if my address book and contents are in there and, if they are, I have no idea how to retrieve them.
Even if they aren't in those folders they've got to be somewhere on the drive that has the OS and Office.
What do I do next?
Thanks.

It is nice to finally post a solution instead of a problem, which I had when I upgraded to the Windows 10 OS. My Outlook 2010 would not let me in but it turned out to be an easy fix.
Access was denied because I, the administrator of the computer, did not have permission to access the Outlook Files (pst). Kind of strange since I am the ONLY administrator but none the less, by searching for the file, I found I could change the access in properties under the security tab. I had to change ALL the files to my Name for access, SYSTEM and Administrator were already listed, something that comes with the pc I guess.
Changing access and allowing my name to access the files opened Outlook 2010 and all is working well now.
This was NOT my first course of action but it was the last one.
Hope this helps someone.

How do you create your account in Outlook? Exchange, POP, IMAP?

Are this the last PCs connected to account? Then you may have too many devices connected to this outlook account and you will have to delete some of old devices. This is valid for exchange connections. I'm not sure about the limit, but will check later.

Go to Outlook online and check the settings.

Deleting each email takes forever due to it almost always freezing .

Even when I turn off the auto-preview it is painstakingly slow to click through emails and open them or delete them.

Any tips on fixing these problems? Settings I'm missing? Any similar experiences?

Hi all,

We are using Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2010 clients. There is one user that is having issues with categories. If she assigns categories to emails, and locks/unlocks her machine, the categories are no longer assigned to her emails.

We have tried:

-new machine- she needed a laptop anyway.
-deleted AD account and re created
-deleted and re created mailbox

The issue is following her around. Has anyone seen this before? I've tried installing Office 2010 SP1, updating BIOS and all drivers... out of ideas.

I have fixed this by manually typing in Calendar list 1 in Calendar data.
Then opening up both Calendar reminders and reading which one has Calendar list 1 in the text field.
Another slow and manual fix for this email client.
Anyone know how other email clients compare to this product?
I know Apple's backup service is on a higher par not comparable with Microsoft.

Are these files you are working on local to your machine or are they over some sort of network? If they are network files, it may be timing out trying to create temp/caches of the file you are working on as undo procedures. If it's a network file save a copy of it to somewhere local on your computer and try editing it.

I had all my old emails still there but then the tech walked me through the process of getting new emails. I was able to receive new emails but in the process it seems she had me overwrite my old email file. So now I can't seem to recover any of the old emails. My pst. file still seems to be enormous so I would think the info is somehow there. We had our IT guys work on this for over 12 hours and they were unable to help.

Has anyone ever been able to recover outlook emails?

Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Your email server should have a copy. Or, the copy is somewhere on your PC, in the form of PST. Perhaps it's in the archived area?

I hope you can help me with this one. I just purchased a new laptop that only a partial Office 2010 program pre-installed so I installed my authentic Office 2010 copy from my desktop to my laptop and had to call Microsoft to validate my product key. No problems there went smoothly. The problem is that I am not able to launch Outlook even to set it up. The error message says "cannot load folders" and then shuts down automatically. I tried to use Windows program repair in control panel but the only reinstalled the office connector. I've looked everywhere on Microsoft's website and can't seem to get an answer that will actually "fix" my outlook issue. Any suggestions on what I should try next? BTW Outlook works just fine on my desktop. Thanks.

Hi there

I got a computer from my work and changed the username, which created a new user in Windows 7 but I can live with that and move the files and so on.

The thing is that apparently by changing the name it also left the company's domain and now when I try to re-configure my account in Outlook I get the error "The connection to microsoft exchange is unavaliable..."

I would like to continue using Outlook and be able to configure my account, I've checked registries and read quite a lot of threads without success, any ideas would be more than helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Angela

Hi Using Microsoft outlook 2010,everything fine. I have three accounts one of them default.

The recent small problem is ,that Each day email arrives ,it is downloading into different account folders, never the same one twice??
It is beginning to get really frustrating, I have checked all settings even to the point of having my ISP check settings.

Am I missing something, is there anyway I can ensure Email downloads into folder of choice? Many thanks Caskin

Hi,

I am trying to setup Microsoft Outlook 2010 with Exchange Server 2003, but I ve run into some problems. Normally I access the mail from mail.pi.ac.ae.

Below are some screenshots that show the error i get when i try to sign in.

After I setup the whole account, I restarted outlook. From then onwards whenever I try to open outlook it gives me this error.

After I click OK, it leads me to this window, you can see my account settings here.

When I click OK i get this error.

If i change any settings in the account settings .. and click APPLY then i get this message and Outlooks closes by itself.

The strange thing is that these same setting work just fine with the Email Client in my Nokia Smartphone

A:How to setup Microsoft Outlook 2010 with Exchange Server 2003

Have you used Outlook in this manner before prior to going to Outlook 2010? There are additional settings that need to be configured for RPC over HTTP if that is the way you were connecting before. If it was POP or IMAP you need to configure your connection that way.

Setup for RPC over HTTP. I think you have to do the initial setup from in the office.

I keep contact details in my Microsoft account (at Sign in to your Microsoft account). I've been using Outlook 2010 with the Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector and this used to synchronise my contacts fine.

However, for a while now, I've noticed mail synchronisation errors and I've had to configure my Microsoft mail account to use the standard IMAP settings (not via the Hotmail connector).

However, this method no longer synchronises my contacts. How do you configure the mail and contact settings in Outlook 2010 to synchronise both mail and contacts in Outlook 2010 with my Microsoft account?

Hi guys,

I have been referred to you guys as I have heard you are the best in the business for answering tech questions, so here it goes!

I was wondering if it was possible to use Microsoft Outlook for organizing and scheduling meetings when people have another email server/software (e.g. gmail, yahoo). What we need is for clients to be able to have access to the calendar and see times when the consultant is available, and to select a time that they are available. This is to stop the constant back and forth of suggesting times when we are available.

(I have looked at online booking system software that integrates and syncs with Microsoft outlook calendar HOWEVER the main issue is that out company uses Citrix Receiver ( client software that provides access to your XenDesktop and XenApp installations) and the group IT of the company have put restrictions on certain applications and software’s we can download. Many of the online booking system software that I have looked at are restricted thus if microsoft outlook can do it that would be amazing)

.

Hi williamwallace1,

Based on your post it sounds like you are looking for a business solution. The majority of the help provided here is for home users, though we do sometimes help solve business problems.

The main issue we run into with solving business problems is the presence of an IT department at the company. You mentioned that your company's IT department has placed restrictions on your workstations.

Given that you have an internal IT department, you will need to ask them to assist you. We will not be allowed to assist unless you are the IT department or get permission from them that we can assist.

Dear Experts

Today I was fixing networking issue for one of my client (router and a parallel HP printer).

He is using a desktop with windows XP professional SP3

During my work on his computer I used two softwares which are CClenaer (tune up his computer browser ) and Kyocera Printer Driver Deleter to remove the driver for the HP printer (it was not working properly)

When I finished my work Before I left his office he was able to download a file from his outlook (used as mail client for his ISP) 2007 (means it was working), to test the printer if it prints or not.

I chose an option : “Install windows updates and shutdown” and I left his office then I received a call from him telling me that his outlook is not finding a file :

Code:

C:\Documents and Settings\omrion\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\tets.pst

When I drove back to his office and checked the file “test.pst” I could not find such a file in the location above(i.e C:\Documents and Settings\omrion\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook) !!!!!!

For sure I had not touched his outlook when I was working the first time.

I felt embarrassed he might have thought that I had damage his outlook.

I checked the Control Panel --> Mail --> Data Files I found those 3 profiles :

Code:

Name Path
------- ---------
Omrion’s email Outlook.pst in C:\emailfile
Personal Folders Outlook.pst in C:\omrion\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft

Hi all,

Everything was fine until last week when I sat down with my I-phone and noticed that it could not find my netgear router Model# WNR834B V2, so I sat down at my desktop (hard wired through router to cable modem) and tried to connect to the internet and got nothing. I followed the sequence for shutting everything down (including taking out the backup battery of the modem) cycling the modem, computer and router and turning everything back on, still nothing. I then simply unplugged the ethernet cable from the router to the computer and plugged it directly into the modem and eureka it worked I was able to access the net and email. I again tried cycling everything with the cable line to modem, ethernet from modem to the input on the router and ethernet from router to computer and again nothing, I then repeated this one last time with just the router plugged directly into the computer and but no connection to the cable modem. I then did a few of the tests outlined on netgear's site and was able to identify (using the run command) that the IP address was 0.0.0.0. On the troubleshooting it says if this happens "this indicates that your computer is not able to communicate with the router. Hello all,

I'm using this bluetooth mouse (Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Wireless Optical Mouse Black H3S-00003 - Best Buy) and it usually connects fine with my laptop. Sometimes, though, it looses connection seemingly out of nowhere. Then the BT icon disappears completely from Device Manager, the mouse disappears from Devices and Printers (although there is a 'Bluetooth Peripheral Device' listed, it is not the mouse and to the best of my knowledge I have no other BT connections so I'm not sure what that is. Going to properties of that device gives no useful information).

Finally, when I go to Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network Connections, there is nothing regarding bluetooth listed.

Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Hi Guys
Having installed an SSD and cloned Windows 7 + Apps to it, I've come up against a couple of problems using Outlook 2010 and I'd be grateful for any help please. The pst file is on another HDD that was not involved in the upgrade.

1) Search function no longer works. either says not found immediately or carries on searching for ever. Clue may be in Indexing? Click on Indexing Status and get "Outlook is currently indexing you items. 2129 items to index" Problem is, this number is increasing, not decreasing! Started around 1600. Should PC be left on and Outlook open, and just be patient, or is something awry?

2)Since SSD installed, all emails with images have lost them. Applies to ones I already have and new ones when opened first time. Red Cross and message in each image frame "Linked Image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed or deleted. Verify that the link points to the correct file and location".

Firefox is browser.

If I forward an email that is not showing embedded pictures to another PC the images are present again.
Presumably the images are stored somewhere and the link has been broken by the upgrade?

I've tried a few things suggested on MS forums without luck. Settings in Outlook seem correct.

Thanks for any suggestions!

A:Linked images "lost" in Outlook 2010 after SSD installation

Further to above post, have also noticed that when doing a search Programmes and Files from Start button, the only items found are those within Windows, nothing from my data files which are on a separate RAID 1 pair of discs.

Now wondering whether to set old HDD (that still has Windows on it) back as boot drive, check that everything is as it should be booting from that drive, then wipe the SSD and clone again? I used Easius ToDo clone tool so will use another programme next time. Any suggestions on which to use?

Is this the best way forward?

Thanks for any comments.

I experienced this same issue when I upgraded from Excel 2007 to Excel 2010. When I copy from outside of Excel and try to paste in Excel, it concatenates everything into the first column. Using the text-to-columns option does not delimit correctly. The only thing that has worked for me was the suggestion made by "mmcconaghy" above. Dear Friends,

When I was moving some emails of sent item folder to a new created folder all my emails in my sent items disappeared.
I have outlook express 6 in windows XP.
I searched through your forums and find an instruction for this problem.

But in its instruction it says: "Locate the temporary location of the .dbx files on your Desktop, and then select the 2 files (Folders and Sent) that you want to import. (Hold down Left mouse button and drag over the 2 files to select both files). Outlook Express should begin to import the old mail and to create or to populate folders." but when I wanted to find the files from Desktop it only indicated Desktop and the folders and I couldn't locate the file and I couldn't finalized them matter.

I also tried another instruction in your forums : "Copy (do not move the file) and Paste the Restored Sent Items.dbx file into the Message Store, you should receive a prompt asking if you want to overwrite the file, select: Yes." but again when I did so didn't receive a prompt asking if I want to over write but instead making a copy of the file. Can you help me. I really need my emails of sent items. I should also say that I have the sent item folder in the message store with the volume of 2,097,099 KB.

I am running Word 2010 on a PC, running Windows 7.

I cannot figure out how to make changes to the "normal" template and have those changes apply to old word files.

In old versions of Windows and Office, I used to be able to make changes to the normal template by going in through the Appdata, and the changes that I made would be reflected in both new documents created, and old documents when selecting "normal" as a text style. However, now I cannot even make changes to the normal template by going through file locations and saving changes.

I can only make changes to the normal quick style icon (by right clicking on "modify" and then applying all changes to "new documents based on this template.") However, this does not alter the "normal" quick style icon in files saved prior to making the changes to the normal template. How can I get my updated normal template to apply to all documents, not just new ones?

OR- maybe there is another solution...

The reason I need the normal template to apply to all documents is that in the new word, I cannot copy and paste and maintain source formatting (even when pasting special and selecting "keep source formatting".) The paste always takes on the destination style, and if the destination style has a "normal" template that is different from the source "normal" style, it automatically selects the destination style and WILL NOT keep source formatting. Hello referee07;

Copy your .pst file from your old computer to the new one or your portable hard drive.

To launch the Outlook 2010 Export/Import wizard, first go to File menu, navigate to Open, and click Import.

In the Import And Export wizard, select Import from another program or file option and hit Next

Under File Type, select Outlook Data File(.pst) and hit Next

Now choose the file to import, select the options, and hit Next

Once done, finally select the folder to import from(if you want to import complete data don’t change any settings) and make sure Include subfolders is checked. You can either import the file to the current folder or choose the folder.

Hope this helps!

Good morning everyone,

So the other day something incredibly weird had occurred. I was receiving email normally on my phone, came into work, logged in, and began working on my trouble tickets. I noted that when I went back to Outlook to view an email, the email in particular was gone... and then all were gone. My folders, and emails within them, still remained the same. I attempted to research what on Earth happened but I haven't been able to find anything specific to my issue.

I'm using Outlook 2010 connected to an Exchange 2010 server for work. Outlook was setup as cached exchange mode but that has since been changed. The emails also disappeared from my phone's inbox too... it's as if everything was deleted and Exchange figured that's what it should be and synced everything that way. Deleting my OST didn't resolve or resync anything. I ran the scanpst tool on the ost file which reports 93 errors, but as I read the scanpst tool can't repair an OST and thus doesn't do anything.

Does Outlook have some sort of log that may explain what on Earth happened? I can't find any error messages or any other reasons for what may have happened. My view settings weren't changed, nothing has changed on my end. There is no spyware / malware installed on the PC as far as I can tell. No real issues in the Sync issues folder other than a Forms syncing issue which seems to be related to Exchange needing a patch (but can otherwise be ignored).

That fact that both Outlook and your phone are having this issue points to this being an Exchange server problem, as Outlook uses autodiscover and MAPI while your phone uses ActiveSync to connect to the server.

Do you have access to your email using Outlook Web Access? If so, log in and see if the emails are there. If not, it's definitely a server issue.

If your mail is still on the server, one thing you could try is re-enabling the cached Exchange mode, saving the change, and then restarting Outlook. The last thing to try is to delete the email account profile and recreate it. Make sure to get the proper settings from IT if you don't already have them -- although since you are using Exchange and autodiscover, that's usually just a case of entering your username and password when you recreate it.

I'm running Windows 7 Professional and just upgraded IE from 9 to 11. Afterwards, I observed that Outlook 2010 was not downloading pictures (instead showing red x's) and Excel 2010 embedded internet queries stopped working.
I think I've cornered the problem, but can't seem to fix. I have also observed that IE's temporary internet files (TIF) folder may be missing (Internet Options>Browsing History>Settings>Temporary Internet Files shows nothing under Current Location)
and the allotted disk space is set to zero and cannot be changed. If I input another number (no matter the number), I receive the following error message:
"Please select a value between 8 and 8 for how much disk space Temporary Internet Files may use."
I have tried renaming the following RegEdit keys, but to no avail: Cache and LowCache (both under HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Internet Settings>5.0). They get replaced when IE11 is re-opened.
The actual values within the registry keys are as follows:
Cache>Content>CacheLimit = 8192 (Decimal)
LowCache>Content>CacheLimit = 256000 (Decimal)
This is driving me crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a problem with Outlook emails hanging up in the outbox and then sending as many as 14 copies of the same message. I was unable to fix this Using the "Repair" function of the upgrade installation disk (created from the downloaded file). I removed Office completely and tried to reload; however, my disk got corrupted and Outlook is no longer available. Is there a way to recover Outlook without having to purchase it separately? I am using Office Professional Plus 2010 Home Use Program. The email that came with the original download from Digital River states to go to the "Account Management Console" to reload; however, this is on a hard copy and the original email with the link is no longer available. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Solved: Outlook 2010 missing from Office Professional Plus 2010

If you downloaded this from Digital River, then you may be able to download it again, contact them and ask.

If you can download the install file again and it works, burn yourself a CD of the downloaded install file.

Also write the keycode on the CD.

Hello All

Win 7 Prof 32 bit
Office 2010

I've been trying to create a Task in Outlook from a Word Document that I have created on this computer. The idea is that a shortcut to the document is created as an Outlook Task. Click on the shortcut, and voila - there is the document.

The "Create Microsoft Office Task" icon DOES send the document to Outlook as a Shortcut in a Task, however, when I open the task, Outlook says:"Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments: Shortcut to 'document name'."

It's NOT an unsafe attachment; Outlook WILL OPEN this document if I send it as an email attachment. Outlook will open .docx files types.

This is a one person computer...no network, no sharing. And this problem has been driving me crazy. This would be a wonderful feature, if I can get it to work.

Anyone have any ideas what I (or Outlook) are doing wrong?

Thanks for your help
Barb

A:Creating a Task in Outlook 2010 from a Word 2010 Document

I think this will do the job for you:
Add & Create Outlook 2010 Tasks From Word 2010

.

Quote:
You can create a task from Word 2010 document and save it under Outlook 2010 tasks. This feature is by default concealed but you can make it apparent on Quick Access toolbar and use it directly.

In order to use this feature, you need to make this feature apparent on Word 2010 Quick Access Toolbar, head over to Quick Access Toolbar and from small drop down button click More Commands.

You will reach Word Options dialog. Hit drop-down button present beneath the Choose commands and select All Commands. Now scroll-down the list and find Create Microsoft Outlook Task command. Select it and click Add (>>) to show it on Quick Access toolbar pane. Once added, hit OK.

First save the document and then select any portion of the text in the document from which you want to create the task, from Quick Access toolbar, click Outlook task button.

Upon click, it will create Outlook task for the Word document and you will reach Outlook Task dialog where you can set Start and Due date for the task and add more information about it. Save & close the task to view it under Outlook tasks.

When opening task in Outlook 2010, you can also view the document from which it was created from, just double-click the document to open it.

Windows Vista has kind of gotten a bum rap. Some of the rap is deserved -- Microsoft shipped it too early. But for the most part, the rap is carried on by vocal techies who just like to poop on things because they think criticizing things makes them appear more knowledgeable.

Talking to a techie about the quality of mainstream software is a lot like talking to a film school graduate about the quality of mainstream movies. Sure, you might have liked Pirates of the Caribbean but talk to a film snob and it's the 7th sign of the Apocalypse. So how good is Windows Vista? The answer is, pretty good. Far better than Windows XP. But I can think of 5 big mistakes Microsoft made that has taken a window out of its sails.

Let me outline those 5 mistakes Microsoft made with the Windows Vista launch and talk about how Microsoft might be able to keep Windows Vista from being a sequel to Windows ME.

#1 The UAC. The User Account Control in Windows Vista is a feature that appears to have been designed by a marketing committee. Some casual computer user decided that the way to make other casual users think that Windows Vista was "secure" was to have more prompts. A lot more prompts. And so, even a power user (i.e. early adopters) logged on as an administrator is going to find themselves being prompted regularly. They can turn it off but that defeats the entire purpose of having better security.

The result: Power users turn it off and casual users learn to ignore the myriad o... Read more

A:5 Mistakes Microsoft made with Windows Vista

It's difficult to argue with any of that, but I think there are other factors at play for any "bum rap" Microsoft might suffer. I'm no expert, but in my career, I've used Windows, Mac, Linux (many flavors), and Unix (Alpha, SGI, and Solaris). All have their flaws and all have their strengths. Window's wide-spread use (mostly by novices) and its unparalleled flexibility bring some disproportionate criticism, but it hasn't been my experience that it stands out as a grossly inferior product. Indeed, when not abused with every manner of freeware, internet tool, and other application that cause 1800 pixel-wide system trays, I’ve found Windows to be relatively stable.

As a business, though Microsoft is virtually a monopoly, it still must maintain pace with the industry at a minimum. It also must generate revenue. It's been a long stretch since XP’s release and a gain in share by the likes of Linux or Apple, however slight, cannot go unabated. I believe this lag by the desktop "leader" caused Microsoft to push Vista before it was ready - and that alone can explain its other flaws. One has to also think that being so dominate, Microsoft calculated that it could overcome the backlash for going to market early, allowing them to keep up with the insane pace of the computer industry by releasing their next greatest thing, however premature. And as someone who has been around software development for several years, let me assure you no software is perfec... Read more

In outlook 2000, go to file, open, open other users folder. Once that users folder is opened there is an entry in the file, open menu for that persons folder that remains there- much like any office app, which displays a list of which documents were previously opened etc.. I want to remove that option/entry from the file, open menu completely but cannot find where I would do this. Something like this in any other office app is easy, go to options, general or whatever, and set recently used list to 0 or just uncheck it. Any help on this topic would be most appreciated, I cannot find any help or options for this in Outlook 2000.
Thank you

Can someone help me in determining how to change the insert item fields. I currently have an archive directory for sent e-mail and when I try to attach archived e-mails from this directory I cannot see the sent to field. All that is available to me is the received by field. See attached printscreen.

A:Outlook Insert Item Fields

OK, Open up a new mail message. Tile the windows so you can see both Outlook and the messages in your sent items folder at the same time. Drag the messages you want into the attachments field or the body of the message and you have long awkward way of getting this accomplished, but you do accomplish what you want.

Hi all
Having totally WIPED office 2010 from my system and re-installed again the problem I had with the "Purge" folder not appearing now is SOLVED.

However you still don't get a line through the deleted items -- but they are in Trash folder now.

This is BETTER but still NOT WHAT IS NEEDED -- as another computer with Outlook 2007 doesn't get the "Non purged" items in the inbox which it should do.

IMAP should effectively leave items in the Inbox until purged -- otherwise I might as well go back to POP3 - more fiddly to manage whern you leave stuff on the server but it works.

What I'm resigned to doing now is to use the REST of the office 2010 suite (EXCEL etc) which is really good but stick with Outlook 2007 for email.

Cheers

A:Outlook 2010 Saga with IMAP, Can I use Office 2010 and

I do like the way 2010 deletes the emails without purge, but I have found that rules randomly fail and some mail goes awol for a while when switching between folders (it reappears after a while)

IMO outlook 2003 is still the best (I hated 2007) but I will reserve full judgement until 2010 is out of beta.

Every day I send out excel documents that I then convert to pdf's. I use the same excel template on each document. The only thing that changes in each document per recipient is the "name" "company" & "email" fields in the excel document.

Question: Is there a way I can get these documents to interface with outlook so that when I select more than one person to receive the document (as many as 30 people will receive the same document), and auto populate the contact info "name" "company" "email."

This way would save me a few steps so that I don't have to pick a contact... type all their info in the fields... send. Select my next contact... enter appropriate info in the fields... and repeat and repeat.

I'm emailing job specific information to everyone working on the same job. I'm sending it to multiple people, but need it to look like they were the only one who received the document. Just like when you get an email about the "deal of the week" that says, "Dear Mr. Johnson, How's your summer going?.... " while someone in NYC gets the same letter that says "Dear Mr. Thompson, How's your summer going.... " from the same sender. Of course the deal of the week changes each week.

How can I make this happen? If there is a better way outside using excel to create pdfs, or a totally different method entirely. I'm all ears. I just need to send the informatio... Read more

Microsoft Office 2010 is installed on my PC (Dell Studio XPS8100, Windows 7). Another member of the household has asked whether she can install Microsoft Works 9.0 on my PC, now that her PC is on its last legs. (She greatly prefers Works over Office, for its simplicity and because of her long-term familiarity with Works.) If Works 9.0 is installed onto my PC, would this cause problems for Office 2010, Works 9.0, and/or my PC? If so, are there workarounds? Thanks.

A:Microsoft Works 9.0 and Microsoft Office 2010 compatibility

The official "word" from Microsoft (pun intended) is that Office & Works can co-exist on the same PC.

Provided you do not intend to share documents between Office & Works (ie both suites will be used separately), there are no "workarounds" or special procedures you need to remember when using them.

So I've got Win8 running as a VM under VirtualBox - all working nicely. I attempt to change my graphics card driver, in order to get proper support using the VirtualBox drivers, but unfortunately Windows boots up with a blank screen. No problem, I think, since I can always use VGA Mode / Last Known Good Configuration from the startup options (using F8).

To my horror it seems to that Microsoft has removed / hidden these options! These are very important to your average technician! I am an I.T. consultant at an SME and am now starting to think that Microsoft will make this next OS very difficult for us to troubleshoot. I can see the direction they're going in with 8, but if they're not careful they're going to completely alienate business users.

A:Microsoft have made a terrible omission - Startup Options (F8)

If you want to enable a safe mode option, use this.
Otherwise you will need to do this.

You should refresh, then enable safe mode, then install that other driver first.
Any problems from there and you can log in on safe mode and uninstall the driver.

I have 4 different signature boxes I use so defaulting to where all emails have a standard signature line (as I now am using as a temporary measure) is clumsy and time consuming.

Thanks.

All,

I am using a 3rd party program that attaches documents to e-mail and will use Outlook to send. I use the program to send myself an e-mail with a word document attached. I do receive the mail and there is an icon (paper clip) showing that there is an attachment. If I double-click on the e-mail I get this message:

"Can't open this item. Outlook cannot do this action on this type of attachment".

If I right-click the mail and choose "View Attachments", I see the document name that I chose in the 3rd party program and I chose it but receive this message: "The system cannot find the file specified."

I am able to open/view any other attachment that I receive from another e-mail address, it only fails when this 3rd party program attaches a document.

Do you think that this is a security setting somewhere? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance...

Howdy all,

We use Outlook 2007 SP2 as our email client running on XP Professional SP3. My boss has an interesting thing happening and I need some help correcting this. She used a 3 pane window configuration in Outlook. When she highlights an email (her highlight is cyan) in the inbox she can then read the message in her reading pane. If there is an attachment (usually PDF or Excel in her case) she clicks on it and the appropriate program opens, but when she closes that program and returns to Outlook, the highlighted feature (showing which email she's on in her inbox) is now gone. At first I thought the OS hadn't returned focus on the Outlook window, but that's not the case.

I went to my machine to see about replicating the issue. My cursor is charcoal and when I click on an attachment, the highlighting turns a lighter color of grey. When I return from the attachment, the highlight is still lighter until I click on that (or another) email -- then it turns back to charcoal.

I talked to my boss and she said it didn't used to do this and she didn't intentionally change anything. I looked at changing "selected items" in the Advanced Appearance (Desktop properties) box, but that doesn't seem to have any bearing on the Outlook situation. Does anyone know why this is doing this and how to correct it?

Thanks in advance!

I just upgraded Outlook 2000 to 2002 and when I create a task and I insert an item as shortcut (an email) I can't open that shortcut. The shortcut icon appears on the Task windows but I can't open it. In 2000 I was able to do this.

Is there any new option in 2002 to enable this?

Thanks

A:Can't open inserted item on Outlook Task

Microsoft removed this feature starting with OL2002 due to security concerns. Instead of a shortcut, you would need to either copy of move the item to the task.
