hi, hope you all can help me. I am getting this error whenever I open a new browser - I just say Yes and then everything works ok, but I would like to fix the issue. It happens no matter what homepage I have it set to open.
My IE is version 6.0

My other problem is - when I get an email (using Outlook Express 6) and the email contains a link in it, I can click the link but nothing happens. It wont open a browser to view the page. Even if I already have a browser open it wont go to the page. I have to copy and paste the link. Not such a big deal except for when the link is embedded in an image. LOL
One other thing that is wrong with my Outlook is it wont spell check. When I hit the spell check it says "An Error Occured while the spelling was being checked".

Any ideas whats wrong with my IE and Outlook?

PS: I am using Windows XP

Whenever I log in to TSGF, I begin to access a series of panes that are titled as this message is titled. They always appear on top of the page I have accessed in TSGF. They contain words like: Line 2; Character 9; Invalid Character:Code 0 and URL, http//forums.techguy.org/newthread.php?s=be7e77el.
They allow the choice of a Yes or No with the yes as recommended. Clicking them off allows me to use TSGF as usual but it is a pain.
What might be the cause of this problem. I run AOL 7.0; Compaq 5080US with Bios Ver. 686c3; Win XP ver. 5.1.2600 and 256 MB with 797 MHz.
The Internet Explorer browser was bundeled with my computer but I try not to use it, favoring the AOL Browser. However, the IE muscles in frequently and takes over. I don't like it but am feaful to remove it since it always causes DialUp errors.

A:Internet Explorer Script Error

Not really familiar with AOL, but since thier browser is based on IE, they should have some things in common.

Those are script errors that it is reporting. In IE, under internet options those are cntrolled by going to the Advanced tab and unchecking the display a notification about every script error.

You should also check Disable Script Debugging also.

I would imagine that there is a similar setting in the AOL browser settings somewhere.

My XP Dell, upgraded from ME last year, has only fairly recently been flashing Script Error pop-up notices, anywhere from one to mostly three or four in-between each time I change pages, either forward or back. The most popular (!) one is: Line: 2, Char: 9, Error: Invalid Character, Code 0, and URL: wherever I'm at on the Net at such moment. Also "popular" but way less frequent, is an "Object Expected" error.
These pops don't s e e m to affect the actual running of the computer, and they don't spring up on all sites, but where/when they do they command an awful lot of extra left-clicking.
Anyone out there in Webland help rest my right index finger? 'Preciate it.
Oh, yes: I did check on this subject, the dialogue between Battleax and SexyTech on April 11, and wonder: 1) Why just unchecking script-error-display-notification Battleax mentions wouldn't serve my purpose just as well; 2) If 'twould, exactly where I find such a box to uncheck.

First, what does it mean? Example-

Today I was making an online reservation on Amtrak's website. Every time I tabbed from one box to another box I got that annoying IE pop up message telling me there was a script error and asking did I wanna continue? But whether you click yes you wanna continue or no you don't or just close the popup box, nothing ever happens.

Can anyone decipher the code? Here's what I was getting today-

Internet Explorer Script Error
There was an error blah-blah-blah
Line: 339
Char: 1
Error: Object Expected
Code: 0
Url (Amtrak's)

The message came up every time I moved from box to box as I filled out the information required to make an Amtrak reservation. The only change was the Line number alternated between Line 339 and Line 315.

Can anyone decipher/explain? Despite it seeming totally pointless I'm sure it means something. Maybe if I understood it, it wouldn't seem so annoying.

Hi all
When ever I go to the "Add/Remove Programs" section of my control panel I get the following message:

"Internet Explorer script error
an error has occurred in the script on this page
line: 21
char: 1
error: object doesn't support this property or method
code: 0
url: res//appwiz.cpl/default.hta
Do you want to continue? "

When I click "yes" I get another message:

"Object doesn't support this property or method
res: //appwiz.cpl/default/hta
line: 21
O.K."

When I click "ok" my "Add/Remove Programs" page is blank and doesn't show any programs. I've selected "disable script debugging" and unselected "display a notification about every script error" but that hasn't helped.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance. RC

I have Windows XP and continue to get these annoying script errors. I have done what I saw in previous threads, put a check in disable script debugging and unchecked display notification of every script error and show friendly HTTP error messages. Most all of the errors are "invalid character" in such and such line. What can I do?

I opened the default page of my web site -FrontPage 2000-,pressed " preview" and got " Internet Explorer Script Error":an error has occurred in the script on this page--
Line: 57 , Char: 7, Error :Unknown runtime error, Code:0, Url file: //C:\\WINDOWS\Temp\FrontpageTempDir\pvw2.htm. Went to Help in the FP tool bar but info referred to incorrect spelling as remedy. Tried it again in the Wizard Help using another phrase and got Report status ,but mine shows O Errors. Then went to www and found Symptom per Microsoft, and cause can occur if you have configured Windows to use the 16-color palatte and I followed the instructions to set palette at 256. Went to "preview" and got the error again. Would you give me some help on this because I might mess my whole web site in trying to solve..or more.... Thanks very much,Shannon Houston

Hi - first post

Every time I try to access the Internet (via IE8 and Google Chrome) I get the standard script error message window:
'Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close...'

I've removed some malware using Malwarebytes that had got itself onto my computer despite having McAfee installed and running.

I did have a toolbar install itself (Dealio I think) last thing last night before I closed it down. I have removed that from the computer.

I also get an odd message and can't access 'Internet Options' from the Control Panel: something like Cannot run DLL as an App - it doesn't even respond at the moment

My wife is asking me to call the installation company to come and take a look, but I thought I'd ask you first. How do I solve a script error caused, I think by a toolbar adding itself on, when I an't even get onto Internet Options?

Thanks

Script errors are on the actual web page & the script error warnings are intended to help website builders correct bad code on their web pages. For the rest of us they are just an annoyance. To disable them, do this.

Open IE & go to Tools >> Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the "Browsing" section and set these options as indicated. (The first two may not need changing).

Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer): Tick

Disable Script Debugging (Other): Tick

Display a notification about every script error: Untick

Now click 'OK' & restart IE.

Hi guys, how to fix these Internet Explorer Script Error. It's really annoying.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks.

A:Internet Explorer Script Error

If you run a script in IE that results in an error, IE gives you the option to debug the script. To disable this option, perform the following steps:

Start a registry editor (e.g., regedit.exe).
Navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main registry subkey.
Double-click the Disable Script Debugger value.
Set the value data to "yes" to disable the script debugger, then click OK (setting the value to "no" enables the script debugger).
Restart IE for the change to take effect.

hope this will help.

Have you tried reinstalling IE from the XP disk? It's fast and easy, just open a run window, type in 'inf', find IE.inf, right click and left click on 'install'. When prompted, point to the installation disk. I had a customer with the same issue a while back and it seemed to help.

Most of us just turn off seeing such errors.

There's practically nothing that can done about them...since they originate in programming on a given website.

I have the same problem and have tried everything you did and occasionally I get one.

In most cases, these errors are a result of something done by the web developer who implemented the script on the web page; there is nothing that you can do to resolve the error.

I am struggling with a feature on my computer. I run FF3 as my browser. I downloaded a new game trial from pogo.com, the game is Pictureka. When I try to run the game, I get an error stating "An error has occurred in the script on this page" but there is no additional info next to the Line/Char/Error/Code/URL headings. When I try to click on the option YES or NO to answer the "Do you wish to continue running scripts on this page?" query, I get nothing but another identical Error Window. If I try to simply close the error window, another immediately takes its place. Unfortunately, this is not limited to only this game. I have tried to uninstall a few other old game trials but as soon as the uninstall intro screen pops up, I get the exact same error. The only way to rid myself of malfunction is thru the "End Task" window (Alt/Ctrl/Del) and choosing end program.

I tried updating my Java to see if that might be the problem but the problem still exists after the upgrade.

Is there any way to make FF run the program instead of IE?

Thank you for your help and if you need additional info, let me know.

I can launch the browser when the internet connection is removed and it shows me the fault page, but reconnect and it shuts down straight away.

Any ideas? Please Help Ive posted the start of the DR Watson Log below (if you need more of the log I can post it in my replies)

Everytime i open windows live messenger i get an annoying message someone please help me.

I am running windows vista home premium

picture of message:

A:Internet explorer script error

disable NineMSN Today from opening everytime you sign into Windows Live Messenger this will most definetly solve the problem.

To disable NineMSN Today, go to: Tools > Options > (& then my guess is that it is on the General Tab). I can't verify this for sure as I am using the latest beta of 8.5 and don't have an option for NineMSN Today as I have already disbaled it and it is no where to be found.

Hope this helps,

The problem is with the site, not your PC. To fix the problem select Disable Script Debugging in IE. Select Tools, Internet Options, and the Advanced table. Then scroll down and check the box for it.

A 'fix' that has worked in some instances is re-registering ole.dll.

Click start, run and type in regsvr32 ole32.dll
and press Enter.

If you aren't logged as an Admin, you probably will have to.

I receive the following script error when I print from Outlook 2000. It only happens with HTML documents. I've done a repair On IE and even upgraded from 5.5 SP2 to 6.0. I've done a lot of the other suggested fixes like disabling script debugging and re-installing the printers and even installed BHO software to try and solve conflicts. What makes this script error unique is the line number (1189). I've seen it on other newsgroups but no one has an answer. I hope someone can help. By the way the machine is running Windows 2000. Thanks in advance.

Okay, whenever I run internet explorer or do anything that accesses the internet through internet explorer (like trying to install the zune software for my recently purchased zune) I get a script error message, but it doesn't show any identification. It's just blank, and asks if I want to continue running scripts on the page. No matter what, it wont go away. It's not frozen, as I can exit it and it just pops up or i can click yes/no and it doesn't go away. Also, Im thinking this has something to do with norton 360 (a wicked evil program) but I uninstalled norton with about three different programs (ccleaner, norton offical complete uninstaller and the built in one) and I also did a search for all symnatec and norton programs and deleted them all, to no luck. MSN also doesn't work, and I'm thinking its connected. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? I have dont show script messages turned on, but that doesn't do anything.

A:Internet Explorer script error

Okay, I fixed that problem, but now maybe someone can help me with installing the zune software. It gives me the crappy restart computer thing but that doesn't work. I think it has something to do with windows installer, because I can't install anything. Any help?

I tend to be very skeptical of Microsoft's ability to do anything right. Consequently, I never install anything by Microsoft on my primary machine until it has been out for 6 months to a year. I'll test things on other machines, but not on my primary machine. Can you blame me?So, I just installed IE7, start it up and immediately I get a script error on the runonce page. Hahahahahahahaha!Details:Toshiba laptopWindows XP Pro SP3 1.5Gb RAM.Installed IE7 and all of the current updates.Start IE7 which brings up the page:http://runonce.msn.com/runonce3.aspx Immediately I get a box: Internet Explorer Script ErrorAn error has occurred in the script on this page.Line: 35Char: 5Error: 'window.external' is null or not an objectCode: 0URL: http://runonce.msn.com/runonce3.aspx Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?Yes/NoI have clicked No, Tools menu, Internet Option, Advanced and checked both of the boxes for "Disable script debugging" and cleared the check box for "Display a notification about every script error."But doing that doesn't help. If I check the bubble on the Runonce page to "Keep my current default search provider" and click the big Save your settings button IE7 will not finish the process, and clear the Runonce page out. The next time I start IE I still get the runonce page. AAAAAuuuuugggggghhhhhh! TimC

Hello,

I am having strange problems with IE7.

On my PC with XP:HE with SP2 and all other updates, I have 2 users. On one user, IE works perfectly. On the other user I have a number of strange problems.

1) Firstly, IE always wants to go to "http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx" and there is a blank blue screen. I attempted to follow the solutions in the other thread (IE7 - http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx (RESOLVED)) but none work for the following reasons:

-gpedit.msc cannot be found (i think this is because i have home edition not pro edition xp)
-In the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main registry key there is no string called "RunOnceHasShown" so i can't change this to 1. I tried adding it in as a string but it didn't work.
-the trusted zone work around did not work either.

2) The second error i have is that on most pages there is a warning triangle in the bottom left of the page next to "done" or it says "error on this page". If I try to click on the triangle to find out about the error i get a blank Script error box with yes or no boxes at the bottom. I can click both but they dont do anything and the error message remains. I also get the error message if i press "ctrl+f" to open the search box. I will upload a screenshot of this error message after i've posted.

3) Certain areas of websites do not work. For example clicking the "bold" button in this posting window ... Read more

My experience is that is usually a problem with the graphics on the page you are visiting. So it's difficult to comment without any sort of context. What exactly are you doing when that comes up and where are you when it does come up? The blank background isn't helpful.

I am using IE 8 on an XP SP3 computer, and Outlook Express for my email.

When I go through old messages to move or delete them, most of them pop up an Internet Explorer Script Error - "An error has occurred in the script on this page"

There have been various lines, various errors such as error - object expected, error - syntax error, etc.

And then the question - Do you want to continue running scripts? Neither "TES" or "NO" solves the problem.

What should I change?

A:Internet Explorer Script Error

i've been plagued by this problem for years because for some reason insist on staying with Outlook Express

do the following:

open internet explorer

click tools>internet options

go to the "security" tab then click internet

now click the button that says "custom level"

now scroll down all the way near the bottom you'll find under "Scripting" is "Active Scripting"

set this to "disable"

hit OK and Apply it it should instantly fix your problem even without restarting anything

note: I only really recommend this method if you don't use internet explorer for your general browsing anyway,
and like me use Firefox for your internet browsing, on a related note if you ever come across a page that doesn't
work properly in anything but internet explorer then use the IE Tab add-on for Firefox

Hi,
Recently bought an Ipod and the instructions advise to visit the apple web site to download Itunes. I have tried to do so I keep getting the below IE script error.
This occurs when I try to access the site and wether I click on yes or no, the error message dissapears and the loading continues, but all I get is a blank page.
Also since I am using a laptop (which I rarely use to connect onto the net) I tried to downlaod an antivirus - Avast home edition).
The error message also popped up but allowed me to begin downloading the anti virus, only to get 5-8% loaded before disconnecting me from the server. Therfore again removing what was downloaded and starting again. Also I noticed that when removing the partial download it advised that some of the files were corrupted.

So currently I have no protection whatsoever. And am stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Has anyone got any ideas on what the error meassage is suppose to mean and how to possibly fix it? And how can I at least download antivirus software etc?

Not sure where to go from here but I'm sure it's something I have done

You may also have a damaged file. Look in C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files for anything damaged. If there is any, delete them.

I think this is caused by some kind of a virus or spyware.

What happens is every 5-10 minute a window popsup with an internet script error.

Each window has a different link to it. So as if there is some kind of spyware in the pc that causes this issue.

The pc was scanned in safemode with
Malwarebytes
Super Antispyware
SpyBot
HiJackthis

All of the infections were removed.

Any suggestions?

In IE go to tools/ internet options/ advanced
Check the boxes "disable script debugging"
(There are two one for IE and one for other applications , click both)
Uncheck the box "Display a notification of every script error"
The error is not on your computer; it is on the website. The owner is too cheap to hire a true web master who actually understands the language it is written in and pay him to fix the error. Instead he has used a WYSIWYG web page builder and some script kiddie who has copied something from someone elses page and pasted it in and it returns the error because he did not copy what that line refers to , but it still does what he wanted it to do. So being an ignorant script kiddie, he just turned these features off on the idiots computer and collected his check.

1. An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

Error: 'Msn.HP.GenericTickler' is null or not an object.

These error messages do not show when I open internet explorer independently of outlook (in it's own web browser). This is on a Windows 2000 operating system. Can you tell me how to get rid of these error messages and fix the problem if any?

Thank you!

I am having this same issue. I also get the blank script error box when I try to alter the windows user accounts (such as changing the settings). I tried running the fix.reg as you suggested above, but the error is still persisting. I get the "error on page" when I click on java links too.

I've tried updating java, changing the internet settings in IE, to no avail. I have also tried disabling all antivirus and firewalls etc.

The IE on the main administrator user for the computer still works fine, it's all the other users on the computer that we get the error for. We installed firefox and can click on the java links and they open fine in the user accounts.

Thanks for any help!
Misty

It happens every time i open peoplepc. Could it be an infection of some kind?

A:Internet Explorer Script Error

Hello,

That error essentially means that there is an error in the scripting used on the page the link provided gives a 404 error which means that the file being used is not on the server.

I wouldn't worry about the error, if you click no then scripts will not be run on the system which could limit functionality on the page in question.
