Switch in my Viewsonic 22" LCD has stopped working

Q: Switch in my Viewsonic 22" LCD has stopped working

I knew something would happen the second I started considering replacing them! LOL.

It started playing up yesterday, when I went to turn it off as was using the other screen to play Crysis. I went to turn it back on once I was done playing and it wouldnt turn on... After much messing around pressing the power button it finally turned on...

I then made the mistake (or more my routine) of switching them both off along with the PC before I went to bed last night. It now won't turn on at all.

I don't think its the internal psu, I'm certain its the button itself. So my question is, how difficult would it be to locate the power switch, and would it be replaceable, or is it a soldered in job?

Warranty expired 2 months ago, and this was a replacement unit under warranty as well, though it was reconditioned and an older generation of my model number.

Can it be replaced then?

**Fingers crossed!!**

A: Switch in my Viewsonic 22" LCD has stopped working

A bit of an update on this.

I've stripped the LCD now, as its not under warranty any more, and the switch contact for the on/off switch on the circuit is knackered. It has a totally different feel to it.

Been searching on and off for a couple of days now - Since I have the part number.

I'm now coming to the realisation that Viewsonic play their cards very close to their chests - You can't find anything related to Viewsonic in regards to parts suppliers here or in the US - Its a tad weird to be honest!

I'm getting used to being down to one screen now though, so I think I'm just going to wait and then purchase a bigger LCD later on. Besides which, my newest LCD is a 4th generation version, and the faulty LCD is 2nd generation. The plastic surround is bigger on the earlier model, and the backround colour is also different (the newer 4th gen has a whitter backround), so at times they can look slightly odd, which has irritated me for ages.

Oh well, something else to add to my list I suppose!

Thanks to everyone that took the time to read this thread though.

Hello!

Here is my problem with a little back story.

On the night of 22nd December everything was fine. I went to bed and left the computer running to watch a movie(Pulled out the Headphones[front jack] to activate the speakers[rear jack]). I used the program "Hot Keyboard Pro" to shut my PC down(I fell a sleep before the PC shut down). When I woke up the next morning and pressed my PC power button nothing happened. So I bought a new PSU today and switched it out.

Now the PC is working just fine except there is no sound. I checked in the device manager, under "Sound, video and game controllers", it shows "Realtek High Definition Audio". And when I double-click it, the "Device Status" is "This device is working properly".

When I open my Playback devices, it shows that my headphones(front 3.5mm jack) are plugged in but my speakers(rear 3.5mm jack) aren't. Also my microphone, which is in the rear jack, shows in unplugged. And what I noticed is that, when I turn something that should generate sound on(Youtube for example), the volume levels start moving in the volume mixer.

Here you can find my hardware:
HP Pavilion Elite m9065.sc Desktop PC Product Specifications HP Pavilion Elite m9065.sc Desktop PC | HP? Support

(And I have another small question, is it normal for new PSU-s to smell a bit? Like this weird electric smell.)

A:No sound after PSU switch(old one stopped working)

Unplug mic and headset and reboot...then check sound with speakers, if it works then check with headset and mic.

I'm on a asus x71q laptop running windows 7.
Yesterday I was working when suddenly I lost connection. It turns out my wireless button seems to have stopped working. That is, I can slide it back and forward, but all I get is a notification wireless is off. The wireless card is visible in my system, no errors (this device works correctly). cabled internet works fine. I haven't changed anything apart from changing something in tuneup utilities (wired connection from 120mb to 60mb). However, that setting I have already rolled back to the previous one.
Any suggestion/help would be appreciated

I have a problem where if I try to 'switch user' the welcome user screen just sits there for a minute until it times out and then returns to the main Logon screen where all users are listed. If I log out and log into each user in turn, then it is fine.

The event viewer does record an error event ID 1036, 'Terminal Server session creation failed. The relevant status code was 0x102'. I have checked that both the Terminal services and Fast User Switching services are started.

The problem started after a popup infected my computer - symptons included a rogue/phantom iexplorer process. I used 'Anti-Malware' to fix that, but it has not resolved the switch user problem. Please help - I have searched and searched for a solution, and although I have found similar problems there does not seem to be a fix.

I have used "Data Execution Prevention" (DEP) listing my ACDC file viewer. I listedACDC because after it completes normally each time, there is an error message that says "Application has stopped working." I no longer want to see this error message.I use ACDC 7 for viewing and editing graphic files, here with this Windows 7 (64) system.

I usually select files with Windows Explorer, and they open using ACDC.

When I close the last file viewed, I get this error message that says "ACDSee 7.0 Application has stopped working"Installations of this ACDC on other Windows 7 computers do not have this issue. So I need to resolve it.

I have been using the same HP Pavilion tx1000 for a year and a half with no software or compatibility issues. I run Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 1 - 32 bit. Slowly this message began to appear with every microsoft program I opened and then started to spread to non microsoft programs. I tried reinstalling the programs, doing a system restore to the oldest restore point I could, I also tried uninstalling any window updates that were installed right before my problems. I have read some strings that indicate it may be a compatibility issue between the service pack 1 and vista but the service pack came with the computer and it has been working fine until recently. I am at loss what to try next. Has anyone using Vista Home Home Premium experience anything like this!!!

I have a piece of software that periodically fails for some unknown reason. I have pretty much given up on trying to figure out what its problem is. I simply respawn the process if it fails to respond or no longer exists. The process runs several times a
minute. Occasionally, I get an error message saying my software "has stopped working" followed by another messagebox saying my software "is restarting". And then it restarts my process. This is beyond stupid since my process requires command
line arguments that are not being provided when this restart occurs. I simply want to disable these messages or at least
disable this auto restart. Is there any way to do this?

I have already tried the regedit hack:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting]
"DontShowUI "=dword:00000001

This didnt work. I still get these messages.

I'm using Windows 7 and for the last couple days I've been flooded with all sorts of "Program" has stopped working" notifications, from everything from the nvidia control panel to windows explorer to various processes that I don't even recognize that must be other ordinary windows processes. These just happen without warning, and when I restart my computer, I get about ten of them right on startup, everything is crashing and I don't know why?

chkdsk came up with nothing.
as per suggestion by another user I booted into safe mode -- the crashes do not occur within safe mode -- good to know. I opened cmd and ran 'sfc /scannow'. no results.

also, a user suggested it may be my ram -- I don't believe this is the case because my XP installation runs just fine on the same hardware.

i restarted the computer into normal windows and even before windows could boot it said userinit.exe and runoncewrapper both crashed then windows media player, then realtek audio, then nvidia, and a ton of other processes. Hi there,
Every time I turn on my computer the following message pops up shortly after windows loads: "Microsoft (C) Register Server has stopped working
A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available".

If I press the "close" button it disappears but I have been doing this now every time I turn on my laptop for months and it's getting a bit annoying. I have searched the net for a solution but with no luck. It seems that people have come accross this message before but not on startup. Any help would be much appreciated. I am running Vista Home Premium on a HP Pavillion dv2000. Cheers

Hi there,
I am getting a repeated "Windows Module Installer has stopped working" message which says that the file that describes the problem is:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue\AppCrash_TrustedInstaller_5480538538f23ac44dfcd994b 3e5d340663098_cab_670b9c43\WER9B8A.tmp.hdmp.

Windows Update hangs and gives no error message but says no Windows Updates have been carried out (ever). Have tried to run SURT but it just hangs on the first step, searching for updates (left it for 3 hours or so). SFC Scan gives error message "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service". I attach CBS folder.

Be very grateful for any help.

Hello, this is my first post here on this forum.
About a week or two, I Downgraded my Computer (Dell l502x) from Windows 8 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bits, installed the drivers from the Dell Page, and everything worked good, except for the Realtek HD Audio Driver Version 6.0.1.6312 (Recommended for my PC on Dell Website), This is the problem:
When I Start my computer, a message shows up with the following error: "Realtek HD Audio Manager has stopped working" and then, I Have to close the message and open Realtek HD Audio Manager again from the Control Panel. I Have already tried re-installing Windows and the error keeps appearing After I Install that driver, I Was wondering if maybe that version of the driver is faulty or something (It would be weird, since it's the one Dell recommends for this computer on the page)
I Have visited many forums, including this one looking for a fix to this issue, but I have not found a solution yet. So I was wondering if someone had this issue before and has a solution to this annoying problem.
any Help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Here's a picture of the issue im having when I start Windows 7 (It's in Spanish, but I think you will understand it)

A:"Realtek HD Audio Manager has stopped working" at Windows Startup

Try the R275 version on the RealTek site. Its the latest version and will work on your PC. When you run the Realtek installation the first thing it will do is uninstall the current version you have installed and then restart the PC. After the restart it will continue and install the R275 version. This is the version I have on all my PC's for both Win 7 64 bit and Win 8 64 bit.

Download the High Definition Audio Codec R.275 64 bit OS version.

I updated to Google Earth 4.3 earlier today but now if I try to open it I get an error message saying that 'DirectX' mode not supported.
It gives 4 fix suggestions:
1) Set color depth to 'True Color' (32 bit) in display properties
2) Start Google Earth after waiting a minute
3) Close other applications (particularly if they use 3D)
4) Download and install DirectX9.0c or above by following the link

Here's what happened:
1) I already had it set to 'True Color' (32 bit)
2) Tried starting after a minute - same as before
3) No other applications were open
4) Downloaded DirectX as per instructions

I still get the same error message. I found from Googling that it might be a problem with the graphics card/drivers. I think the graphics card is a SiS AG200T8-64 ( I hope I got that right!). I went into the advanced tab in the display properties and asked it to search for an updated driver, it put on version 6.13.0010.3030

This also makes no difference to opening Google Earth though.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you

Jenny

I keep getting a dialog box that pops up and says:

"Microsoft Windows

There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason for it... it just arbitrarily shows up from time to time. It's not related to booting Vista, I don't think, b/c it'll pop up occasionally during the same session.

I recently re-installed Windows Vista on my laptop and everything was fine the first few days. But yesterday, I got a message of "_[Program]_ has stopped working." It was a minor/small program so I ignored it. But after it happened about 3 times, to 3 different programs, I did a drive check as it suggested. It was scheduled to the next restart, which I did immediately. It said it was clean. Then later that night, it says it unexpectedly shut down (I was not at the computer when this happened.)

As for the random freezes, I thought it was just in browsers, but it seems to be happening when I'm just going through the computer also (folders, etc.), but not as often.
I noticed it started happening after I downloaded Google Chrome. Is it because I have too many browsers? A friend told me that could slow my computer down. I have IE, Firefox, and Chrome. I use both Firefox and Chrome, but not at the same time of course. It freezes for some seconds, sometimes a few minutes, randomly when I'm not even doing anything big. It even freezes sometimes while I'm scrolling!

Again, I'm not doing anything that should lag it. I only go on a few widely-known websites and one instant-messaging program.

It was not like this before the re-install. (I was forced to re-install due to Windows being damaged, however.)

So, what's wrong with it? Is it the hard drive? Should I uninstall a browser?
Please help and thank you in advance.

At some point in the last three months, a number of machines have stopped being able to add new USB devices.

These can be USB headsets, mass storage devices, anything. This includes devices which previously have installed fine and been working without issue.
In device manager, the devices show as "No drivers are installed for this device". However, if you click update drivers, and then manually select the Mass Storage (for example), you can install the device without a problem.
This has nothing to do with any vendor specific drivers - This is a Windows 7 issue.

Has anyone seen anything similar?
Is anyone aware of a recent update that may have had an impact on the USB stack or the operation of PnP?
Any other ideas?

Cheers

I problem I have been geting in the past 2 days is that whenever I use the search index, like for example look in my librarys, program files, or look for anything on my computer, a box pops up saying "Windows explorer has stopped working", and whatever im searching for will automaticaly close. This is very frustrating because like everyone who owns a PC I search for files and such, and I have tried many things to try and fix this, including:

-System restore
-Uninstalling windows updates
-Restarting computer
-Disabeling Index service
-Disabeling Windows search service

I have read of a solution to this problem that involves deleting files related to the index, but again I cannot do this because every time I look in search index it automaticaly closes.

A friend at work experienced the same problem on his PC. Turns out he had a corrupt indexing file. You could try posting the details from Event Viewer, if that is possible. I wouldn't be able to help you interpreting them, but maybe some of the more experienced members could.

Have you tried disabling Windows Search? I did this on my friend's PC as a temporary measure . Got IE working, although searches were rather slow. It isn't a solution, but it could afford you a temporary -- albeit inconvenient -- workaround.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Stick around, though, and wait for inputs from the more knowledgeable members.

I'm getting this problem on a desktop running Windows 7 and on a laptop running Vista.

On the Win7 system (on which I'm typing this,) I'm getting the "Windows Explorer has stopped working" and "Windows Explorer is restarting" message pair every time I try to open any program from the desktop (such as MalwareBytes, Spybot, IrfanView, anything,) using right click and "Run As Administrator." They'll open and run normally if I do the ordinary left-click, or if I right-click and "Run As Admin" from the Start menu.

On the Vista laptop it's less consistent and seemingly not dependent on the right-click/Admin selection. On vacation I tried to download and run Verizon's VZAccessManager software - so as to use my ancient flip-phone as a tether - and couldn't get the system to detect the phone ("A wireless device was not detected!" is the message I would get.) After attempting multiple tweaks with the assistance of Verizon Tech Support via that phone, he came to the conclusion that I've got a problem with the system - something running on it that shouldn't be there.

On both systems there's also been a marked delay time in program initiation (when they start at all,) and running the usual malware/spyware detection programs such as MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot S&D, etc., comes up empty; the same with virus scans.

Though the coincidence suggests a connection and that it&#... Read more

For about the past 3 month I have started to see fairly frequent app crashes with the "application has stopped working error". It appears this started the week of 4/8 (from what I can tell via Reliability Monitor.)

Here are some of the applications that have been affected:
Zune.exe
wlmail.exe
Microsoft intellipoint
Windows Desktop Gadgets
Skype
ehshell.exe

I did not make any major system/application changes (besides plugging in a new wireless keyboard temporarily)

My system is a Dell XPS 420 running Windows 7 Ultimate x86 (about 4 years old). OS runs on a 100GB SSD that was clean installed about 22 months ago.

Trying to find out if there is some larger issue mounting. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

See if re-installing your Microsoft Mouse software resolves your problems. First, uninstall the software through Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Uninstall a program. Then download the latest version of the software if you can. If it is not available for download, use your disc that came with your mouse. Install the software fresh.

My understanding of the information given in your logs came from Microsoft IntelliPoint Readme and Release Notes. Good luck!

Hello all. I hope this is the right place to post this support thread.

I am trying to install Open Office, but every time it is crashing during the installation process. This has happened the same way for three different .exes from their website - 4.1.1 en-GB, 4.0.1 en-GB, and 4.1.1 en-US.

I run the .exe, click next on Installation Preparation, select a location to unpack the files, and it extracts them. Once it reaches the Installation Wizard window, it works on 'Computing space requirements' for a second or two, and then crashes, saying "Windows(R) installer has stopped working".

I have looked around a couple of help threads, and tried a few things. I have been into regedit, but there was nothing except '(default)' under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions. I ran 'sfc /scannow' in the command prompt, but got "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". Can anyone suggest a fix? Thank you

While not a solution to fix your problem, here is something you could try to get a free Office suite.

I have Libre Office Portable, similar to Open Office, and the portable version doesn't install Libre Office.

I work remotely through an F5 VPN with RSA dual authentication.  Once inside the firewall and into the intranet, I run RDC and connect to my work computer.  This has worked without fail for a year, but a couple of days ago, even though I VPN in
with no trouble and have access to other features and locations within the company's intranet, when I click Connect on the RDC dialog box, I get "An Internal Error has Occurred."  If I try "edit" on the RDC, it shows my internal userID
and asks for my pwd.  Then it gives me the same Internal Error message.  It doesn't seem to find the computer through RDC even though ping and tracert do see it. I spent hours on the phone with company tech support and they assured me the remote
box is on and they were able to remote into it.  I can also ping and tracert the remote box while VPN is active - I just can't connect.  No changes have been made in any configuration since it was set up over a year ago.
I need ideas on how to debug this as it seems to be on my home client machine.  Are there any diagnostics or tools I can use to try to find the problem?  I need this ASAP to be able to work.

Hi all,

Just got my Vista machine from Dell, 2-days ago. Data transfer went smooth, things were going great.

The I started getting "Intel Alert Server Stopped Working" message on every startup.

I think I broke it with trying to load Norton Password Manager, which is not compatible with Vista, so I had to do an uninstall. It was after this reboot, the message started appearing.

Choosing RESTORE from several checkpoints did not work.
Cleaning the Registry, as best I could, did not work.
Googled "Intel Alert Server" nothing useful, from what I saw.
I have since reloaded Norton Internet Security and Money since it appears the the live update on both were also broke.

Two questions:
1. How do I get fixed the "Intel Alert Server" message?
2. Can you recommend a specific Vista-compatible password manager package?

Thanks, Nickie

Hi

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on a Lenovo T510.

Every single time I do a Properties on My Computer, I get this pop up message that "Windows Control Panel has stopped working". Oddly, I just cancel that window and everything otherwise seems to work normally. But it happens every time and I can't figure out why.

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks

Hi

This usually happens when you dont remove the software completely, some process are attached to the Windows Explorer ... thats causing this.

Try using Autoruns and look under Explorer... and look for file that highlighted in yellow.. usually should say "File not Found". Uncheck or delete these and restart you computer.

Try these and let me know.

Hey gang, I've got a big problem. I've got Outlook 2002 on Windows Vista. Sometimes when I send out emails as soon as I hit send, Outlook will pop up with a message that says, "Outlook has stopped working, Windows is looking for a solution." The solution it gives me is to upgrade. I would hope that just because I'm using an older Outlook that it wouldn't screw me over like that. What can I do? The problem seems to happen randomly but when it does it happens over and over and over again. HELP!

Hello,

As of a couple of days ago, when I click a Google search result link, I'm usually redirected to a random website. I also sometimes get random popups on sites on which I never got any before.

Every once in a while, I get a message saying, "Host process for Windows services stopped working and was closed", and my computer and Internet connection slow down. Sometimes after this happens, program windows, the taskbar, and other Windows visuals revert to a simple, Windows 95-esque level.

This is a huge annoyance, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is sort of odd. I'm moving some folders from my laptop's internal HD to an external one (actually copy and delete, but close enough), but with one folder I can't get to first base. Just one. I haven't had a problem using the drag-and-drop method inside WE for any of the others.

It doesn't matter whether I click on the folder on the left side directory tree column or the right side "folders and file" column, Explorer still craps out, generating the subject message. It then restarts itself.

The computer is an older Gateway that is maxed out at 2 gigs of ram. I was wondering if this might be part of the problem, but I don't think so. Not when I can successfully do a multi-folder drag and drop several gigs in size.

I have tried rebooting the system to see if that made a difference; it didn't. And I've attempted the transfer with no other windows open. That didn't make a difference either.

Finally, in order to move the files onto the external drive, I opened up a DOS window and copied them over the old fashioned way. Once the folder was empty, I was able to delete it from within WE. But now, the new folder on the external drive is behaving in the same screwy fashion as the old one. The new folder has a different name from the old one but the same problem has surfaced again. If I so much as click on the new folder, WE errors out and closes. Very strange. Makes me think there's something odd about one or more files. They copied just fine, though, and deleted ... IE 11 stopped working as the alert states. Supposedly it is checking on a solution, but none has come back after several days of not working. I have no idea why this has happened. I certainly don't mind deleting the program and installing a new one, but I can't see how to do this. Luckily Firefox is my main browser and I can do without IE (I think), but still would like it to function.

Hi, today I got the "windows explore stopped working" problem on Vista system. I found the post of Joncotes in last year as below. But It doesn't work on me because although I repeated steps 1-3 many time the explorer still can not restarts. Is anyone can tell me what can I do now? Thanks so much!!!!

the The only goal here is to remove a trojan that installed itself on the computer. It can be accessed from the Add/Remove programs list, but the only problem is explorer keeps restating and you can’t open the windows fast enough without them automatically closing. This is an in-depth fix, read carefully:

1. Open Task Manager via Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
2. Click File > New Task (Run…)
3. Type “C:\Program Files” Press ENTER

Note: Since the explorer browser was accessed through Task Manager, it shouldn’t close every time Explorer restarts. If it does, repeat steps 1-3 until the window never closes after an Explorer restart.

4. Click the “Folders” link near the bottom of the left-hand colored pane.
5. Click Control Panel.
6. Click Program and Features.
7. Click the “Installed” tab so it sorts by installation date.
8. Notice the programs installed on the current day’s date! You need to uninstall these.
9. READ CAREFULLY!!!
10. When you click to remove one of these programs, windows will ask you to restart. DO NOT RESTART. Click “No”
11. If/When Windows prompts you telling you the uninstallation failed, click “Uninstall Using Recommended Settings”.

After updating yesterday, explorer.exe no longer starts correctly, either on startup or manually. A windows restore to before my latest updates fixes the problem, but installing the updates causes the problem again. I do want to keep the system up to date, so I figure I shouldn't just turn automatic updates off. Some notes:
I sit on the "Welcome" screen after logging in for longer than usual before getting to the desktop.
"Personalized Settings" seems to be what's causing the issue - this is the window that freezes.
I don't have a start bar.
Everything else works fine - I can launch programs through the command line or task manager, including windows explorer.
My wallpaper no longer loads - or, to be more precise, it's just a black color.
I have DisplayFusion installed, but I uninstalled it and this had no effect.
Here's a screenshot of the symptom along with my recent update history.

I'm not totally averse to reinstalling windows, but I do want to make sure the same thing doesn't just happen again. Anyone have ideas?

Hello,

I'd be very glad if anyone could help me.

My OS version is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Whenever I try to run the task manager, either by pressing Alt+Ctrl+Del and selecting it or right clicking on the task bar, the window opens but immediately an error is displayed "Windows Task Manager has stopped working... Windows is checking for a solution for this problem" followed by "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" (see attached screenshot). No solution is provided.

The computer is rather new (3 weeks old) and has very few programs installed. Since I don't use the task manager very often, I don't know when this problem started, but it wasn't there from the beginning.

Things I tried, but did not work:

- Going back to a previous restore point: same problem.

- Running a RAM memory test with memtest86, no problems found.

- Performing a clean boot using msconfig.exe and disabling all programs, with the exception of Microsoft services. The problem remained.

- Scanning the computer for virus and malware. Installed Malwarebytes, nothing found. Using Kaspersky anti-virus, no problems found.

- Using the system file checker tool. I used it twice and it did indeed find problems, but said it could not fix them.

An issue came up on my comp recently, and it's the "x program has stopped working, windows is trying to find a solution", this happens randomly when I'm playing games like League of Legends or Final Fantasy 14, it even happens to Skype, and most importantly, sometimes it happens to Windows Explorer saying that "Windows Explorer has stopped working and will now restart". I don't know what is causing this and why some programs just decide to give me that error message. Is it my graphics card? Is it because I have malwarebytes and MSE?
I don't know.

I sent in my comp to my tech place to solve BSOD's and they returned it, said it was working fine, but it clearly isn't if these programs randomly give me the "stopped working" error. I think we all know which error we're talking about right?

There's another thing, and I think it's graphics card related, sometimes I see little glitches on my screen randomly, as if something was wrong with the computer, like little color glitches, maybe a little black bar in a random place, or a "glitchy" color bar somewhere. I have another graphics card, which is gtx 680, but it's sent in for repair because the cooler on it stopped working and should be returned next week.

The biggest problem though, is that a LOT of programs such as itunes, vlc, etc, did not work the first time I tried to run them, saying "_Application name here_ has stopped working" after clicking on their shortcut. However, if I then set them to run in compatibility mode for Windows 7, they'd work fine!

Not a huge issue, but it is irritating, and I'd like to know if anyone has any idea if it's fixable. I wonder if this too could be a driver issue? Though it's so inconsistent on which programs it does it with that I have really no idea.

Weirdly, the first program this error surfaced with, was when trying to run the Windows Performance Index thing, is the only additional info I can think of to start with.

Any help appreciated, thanks!

So, now when I start my computer, after some minutes I always get this error message:

I don't know where it's coming from. I checked my control panel and I didn't find anything related to bing installed there.

I'd like to know a way to make this message stop appearing. Can someone help me?

First off, thank you for taking the time to read this and help little ol' me out. I've been having a problem lately, where programs crash when I attempt to start them. It's happening with all of the following programs: Skype, Oovoo, Champions Online, Neverwinter, D&D: Eberon unlimited. When I attempt to start the program, it immediately comes up with a box saying "X has stopped working" X being any of those programs listed above. This problem used to just affect D&D and Champions Online, but for some reason, it started affecting other programs similarly just the other day. I think it might have something to do with the launchers and when they connect with the internet, because the static Oovoo launcher only crashes when I click "Connect with Facebook" or try to click log in. The other launchers crash immediately. Here are my specs:Windows 7 64 bit. Manufacturer is Acer, the model is Aspire 5830TG, Intel? Core ? i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30GHz, 6.00 GB of ram (5.85 GB usable). I would be ridiculously grateful if anyone could help me, thank you for your time, just ask me if you need to know anything else about the computer to figure out the problem.

Is this still the inferior Factory Preinstalled Win7 with all of the bloatware and duplicate utiltiies which have better versions built into Win7? These throttle Win7 from its native performance and cause endless issues.

That's why most tech enthusiasts will not run such an install but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Everything is provided in the blue link tutorial.

At the minimum I'd Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

I've been having a strange issue lately and i'm not too sure where it has come from. Everytime my computer starts up my desktop icons and taskbar doesn't work. I have to hit ctrl + alt + del and then hit cancel in order to unfreeze them.

Everytime i try to launch a website like youtube or any site that has media players, i get a "rundll32 has stopped working" at the website's launch. Then when i try to open the videos on the websites, the "Play" icon is off to the side where it normally isnt, and i cannot play the videos.

Basically my browers have been super glitchy after this. An example is when using google chrome whenever i hit the "previous page" button, it opens another tab instead, and when i click on that tab it closes it. Anytime I try to click another tab it just closes it. This also has a strange effect on my VLC player, none of the buttons work, i have to right click and use the buttons that way. I've never seen anything like it before.

A:"rundll32 has stopped working" Upon launching websites like youtube

Hello ripabbott and welcome to Seven Forums.

The first thing I'd do is run a full scan with your antivirus/antispyware of choice. Then I'd follow up with a couple of free on-demand scanners that have a good track record of finding things that others miss. One is Malwarebytes and the other is HitmanPro.

It's also possible that you might have some damaged or corrupt system files. Try running a System File Checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two, this tutorial.) If any problems are found, run the scan three times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Please post back if this helped or not.

So I'm using my computer one day and then randomly in the middle of use this comes up-
A popup box saying "Windows explorer has stopped working" w/ cancel option
then another one saying "Windows exploring is restarting" w/ cancel option
Then any open Windows explorer windows and all desktop icons and the taskbar disappear for a second then come back. Then the process repeats again.

This happens every 2-3 seconds and loops continously. I can't open anything in explorer b/c it closes all explorer windows when it restarts, I have to go to safe mode to access my files. It's driving me insane

From looking online its not a rare problem but I've tried a lot of suggestions and none seem to work.
this is what I have tried:
-system restore from a date a month ago
-Turning User account control OFF
-Going to C:\Windows\System32 and deleting suspicious files
-Uninstalling suspicious files (WINDOWS WARNING or WINDOWS SAFETY ALERT) from programs and features in control panel
-Uninstalling programs thru C:\Program Files thru Task manager
-Deleting files on Desktop using command window
-using sfc / scannow thru cmd window>run as administrator. After I ran this scan it just says windows has found no integrity errors or something like that

Things that you may need to know-
- there is no problem when I use computer in safe mode

Today, I decide to take a break from my Fedora partition and actually load into windows. It had been a day or two and i knew my thunderbird would be bursting at the seams with emails.

I boot.
It chugs a bit more than usual.
I get an error message about 5 minutes after I boot.
"Host process for windows services stopped working and was closed"
It said more than that, but it was all trivial information about what might have caused it and whatnot- then it popped up a windows help browser suggesting i run windows updates, because apparently every problem can be fixed with an update (it wasn't).

This shows up every time I boot. It doesn't really seem to be affecting anything (yet), but it still perturbs me and all the things I find on google seem to be particularly vague in the direction of something in the event log without telling me exactly why i'm there or what I'm looking for, let alone how to go about it.

So, what do I do to alleviate myself of this little dialog at login?

A:"Windows Explorer has stopped working and needs to restart" in Vista,

Sounds like an infection (or a driver issue due to the fact you can access via Safe Mode). The best advice we can give you is to go to our Virus and Malware Removal forum.

Normally we would say to read the 8 step sticky and follow it step by step and when you go to post attach the required logs.

However, you can't access the internet on your possibly infected system. I would still post there and let them know of your issues. Either Bobbye or Broni or someone else will see your post and give excellent suggestions and help.

Make sure the tile of your post is solidly descriptive such as "Help: Can't Access Internet to Run 8 Steps" or some such thing.

Good luck.

Ran Acronis True Image 2011 image backup last night and was set to auto shut down after image/verification completed.

This morning the screen still had Acronis running with the message "Program has stopped working". Closed Acronis and tried to reboot...but after two hours I still have the "closing" message on the screen:

"Operations are in progress. Please wait
The machine will be turned off automatically after the operations are complete"

Relatively small Windows installation with maybe 50 gigs being used on disk.

Have tried the PC case restart button...but nothing happens ?

Should I turn the PC box on & off via the main switch on the back of the box ?

Thanks...TRinAZ

A:Program "stopped working" - Windows shutting down for over 2 hours ?

This message is caused by Acronis. If you left the default verification schedule set, it will verify what is set to verify before it shuts down. This could be quite a few backups.
I just let mine run and then made sure all defaults are set to not schedule verifications.

You could try to shutdown and reboot but I have not tried that.

I realize the title happens frequently in general. I myself have had to go in and restore the device countless times on reboot. That's not the issue (default device, device enabled, etc).

For some mysterious reason, my What U Hear is malfunctioning and picking up absolutely nothing as of last night's reboot. Prior to this for the last few years since being on Win 7, I've had no issues (other than the common restore the default, enable it, etc).

So what might have changed?
1. I had a power outage mid day yesterday. I'm pretty sure I didn't attempt to use my What U Hear after this outage, but DID use it just prior to the outage (but was not recording or anything when the outage hit, but SF 9.0 was open)
2. I have gone into the BIOS and disabled HD Audio (since my MOBO has onboard)... I really thought this second one was going to fix my problem, but no.

When I go to check my devices in the audio pop-up, it shows my speakers as the default playback device and the oscillator goes as I play something. When I look at the recording tab, with the What U hear device enabled & defaulted, the oscillator just sits there dead. When I go to properties and either select "default playback device" OR select my external speakers (both of which should be the speakers, WHICH DO oscillate and work just fine) it doesn't matter... What U Hear still does not pick anything up!!!

Any ideas?

I'm sort of frustrated here and am out of ideas.
Thanks!

A:Stereo Mixer "What U Hear" Suddenly Stopped Working

Two general ideas:

Try a system restore to a point in time before you had issues--before the power outage issue.

Uninstall audio drivers/sound card, reboot, and reinstall audio drivers.

Either might work.

It's at least possible that you had hardware damage due to the power outage.

Stereo mix is shaky on Windows 7 as I am sure you know.

Hi All,

Let me get right to the point...

Background:
I just changed my hard disk because my old one's integrity is at 2% to a point where I couldn't even load Windows. So, I reinstalled everything: Win 7 Ultimate x32 and all other third-party software that I use. All the installation process worked smoothly... no error or warning of any kind. I always have 2 users set up on my computer: one is the (system's predefined) Administrator; and another is a user with near-admin privileges (a power user) that I use for daily operations and it has almost all access to my data partition drive (I set up the security permission for this user on the data drive).

Problem:
The problem started after I created the second user and set up the security permission for this user. I can read, write, modify, even delete a file on the data partition, but I cannot move that same file to another folder still within the data partition to which this user has access. The error was always: "Windows Explorer stopped working" and it had to refresh/restart.

Solutions tried (based on my browsing similar "Windows Explorer stopped working" problems in this forum):
- First, I tried giving the user group(s) (the groups that this user belong to: Users, Power Users, etc.) the permissions that I wanted -- same problem.
- Second, I tried giving the actual user, instead of just the user group, the permissions that I wanted -- same problem.
- I tried giving the user full control/permission -... Read more

Laptop: Sony VAIO VGN-FZ160E
OS: Vista (Home) 32 bit
Device having problem: Sony DVD RW AW-6540A ATA Device
Driver: 6.0.6000.16386
The CD/DVD drive was just working a couple of days ago. Now, it does not even show up under "Computer" (It was drive F). I can hear the CD spin, but no CD/DVD shows up ... nothing shows up as F:

The device driver has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it, and the description has error "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" I tried to update the driver, but it says that I had the latest version.

I uninstalled the driver, and rebooted, and the computer tried to automatically install the driver, but that failed. It gave me this message:

"Device driver software was not successfully installed."

Now, I am back at the same spot, with the yellow triangle.

Please help.

Hey...

Since the last 3 days...

I've been getting this error, "Windows Explorer has stopped working" for about every 6 seconds...

It is very annoying...

Please help me on how to stop this...

A:Nonstop "Windows Explorer has stopped working" Error...

I think it may be a virus. If you can do a virus scan. If not, if you can remove the hard drive and install it into another pc as a slave and do a virus scan on it there.

I have just bought a new laptop 2 weeks ago, pre-installed with Vista Home Premium and I haven't had any problems until just yesterday with this new OS. I've searched all over the internet for solutions, but the people who have the same problem seem to have problems with malware or spyware. Some people have suggested uninstalling programs that might have been installed on the current date, but the only program I have installed is Avast anti virus. I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with spyware but just to be sure I am running an anti virus scan again (I already did before and found nothing).
Oh ya forgot about the problem: Everytime I open my Program Files folder under the C drive a message comes up saying that Windows Explorer has stopped working, then Searching for a solution and then it just restarts windows explorer. I have checked with other folders and this doesn't happen. Weird thing is though that when I changed the way I view the folder for (previously my) documents, from details to tiles (the icons), the same thing happened. And when I open program files for a brief 2 seconds, it's in tiles mode.
Sorry the message is so long, just wanted to be exact. Anyone else have/had this problem or have a solution?

P.S. is Avast even any good of an anti virus?
P.P.S. I am able to access control panel and add/remove programs (program features) and this problem doesn't occur when I login in - as it did for some people

I have added a Hijackt... Read more

A:"Windows Explorer has stopped working" error message

Yes I had the same problem unfortunately. I'm no computer tech, in fact, using this Vista programme seems to be a bit of a pain. But because of our problem and others, I'm learning fast. I nearly gave up hope and just before I threw the thing accross the room I thought "why not reinstall vista". It actually worked because the computer thought it was starting up for the first time. No probs. I cant say it will work for sure for you but I do no this, not meaning to scare you, I have only used this programme for 6 months and have had a great deal of hassle. Also from the feedback I have encountered, unless microsoft do something soon, you will need to brace yourself because there are too many faults with the programme. Good Luck. Z

Straight after I downloaded Netlimiter, I got all these problems. First the message "Windows Explorer has stopped working" kept looping but now it has stopped and only comes up when I try and open My Computer etc.

I can't access control panel as the taskbar is gone but when the taskbar was there I couldn't open it anyway as it just closed again.

I can access cmd through task manager.

Safe mode doesn't let me open control panel either.

Does anyone know how to create a new user account through cmd? Maybe this could solve my problem?

I don't think it's a virus as AVG didn't pick anything up and Netlimiter is known to be a good program.

Any help appreciated.

Hello CMM, and welcome back to Vista Forums.

You might see if doing a System Restore at boot using a restore point dated before you had this problem may be able to fix it for you.

Hope this helps,

Hi all,
I have a bit of a problem here. I am trying to play age of empires 3 on my laptop which runs windows vista ultimate, vista is fully patched, and hardware DEP is enabled. The trouble is when i first installed the game and played it, all ran fine. However, after updating it it began giving me errors that the protection stub has stopped working and as well, the game would return the same error as well. I have seen this before and know its a DEP issue as i have had to allow the game in the past. Now, i do not know what Protection Stub is or where it's executable lies. If someone knows where it is could they please let me know. I could not find anything by googleing and help and support gives cryptic messages that dont help me. I do not even know what this executable is named.
Thanks for the help.

I am constantly receiving the "Windows Explorer has Stopped Working", when using explorer.

After looking on the Microsoft Support, I ran System File Checker (CFS) but although CFS has reported it found corrupt files it was unable to fix some of them. I am also denied access to the report log so cannot find more information on these corrupt files. I'm currently running a full virus and malware scan but I'm not overly optimistic that this will sort the issue.

Could you please tell me how to sort this issue? The errors are making explorer unusable!

Thanks.

A:"Explorer has Stopped Working" - constant error message

Next time you want to open the CBS.log, copy it to another folder (example desktop) away from C:\Windows. Then it will open - with Notepad.

Found the corrupt files? You can use this tutorial below to extract the corrupt ones and fix the issue.

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can see a pattern between the software that works and doesn't work on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop.

In the past month (Jan-Feb 2011) a lot of the software I use to edit or display images and graphics will no longer run (crashes). System: Windows 7 64 bit SP1. 3 GB RAM, 500 GB HD Acer 6492 laptop with mobile intel 965 express graphics card. Windows Update reports it is up to date.

I don't get BSOD, just that when I start one of the affected programs, it fails to run and shuts down.Windows continues to run fine. I either get "___ has encountered a problem and needs to close" or "___ has stopped working, Windows is searching for a solutio to the problem".

Programs that won't run:
Google Earth neither Directx nor GL
PhotoPlus X4
Paintshop Pro X3
Xara Designer Pro 6

Programs that run fine
Picasa
PanoramaPlus
PanoramaStudio
SmartDraw
World Wind

I wonder what is the pattern or common denominator.

Symptom started roughly when I installed a new 500 GB drive (Seagate Momentus XT with 4GB RAM buffer 7200 RPM) in place of the 500 GB non-hybrid 5400 RPM drive. This is the 4th drive I've had in this laptop 160GB -> 320 GB -> 500 GB -> 500 GB with 4 GB buffer. Each time I had a Norton Ghost image of the C: drive, installed the new drive and restored the image to the C: drive. Windows fires up without a hitch. On some software I had to re-activate the licence as I guess the software noticed a change in ... Read more

Seems you did everything you could, however, have you run (full scan) of your anti-virus and malware software. Not sure if it would help, but it cannot hurt. Also you might attempt reinstalling the last HDD to see if there isn't a problem there. If not then it would be wise to attempt to reformat the 500 to see if that is the problem. Good Luck.

Three times in the last 24 hours this warning has opened on my Desktop, after I have just closed Windows Live Mail [WLM] . After the warning disappears from the Desktop, WLM opens yet again.

Naturally I've allowed the issue to be reported to MS and sent the information, but I note that there is also a File that describes the event, in this case:

C:\Users\Tony\AppData\Local\Temp\WER21C8.tmp.hdmp

Is there any way that I may attempt to either fix or resolve this issue myself? For starters, I haven't a clue about how I access the quoted File, and if I did, I don't know what to do with it anyway.

Or is this yet another of those situations where you just grin and bear it until MS come up with something to resolve the issue? Hope not 'cos it's mildly annoying...

A:"Windows Live Mail has stopped working" - Files describe event; Fix?

1) Ignore error message.
2) Do a "repair" of Windows Live Essentials via Programs and Features
3) Use the Disk Cleanup utility
3) Use sfc /scannow via the command prompt window.

Hello,

Like many others, it seems, I am experiencing difficulties with all searches on Firefox and IE being redirected to advertisement sites. Also, every so often a new tab will randomly open to an advertisement site.

Additionally, I have experienced the error message "Host process for windows services stopped working and was closed" about a dozen times. After this happens, Windows Media Player will stop showing the time countdown for songs and videos, and Firefox windows will look more like a Windows 95 window (hard to explain, but the smooth looking display common to Vista seems to be replaced by a more rigid display in the window).

All of this started happening yesterday. First, I experienced non-stop warnings from Sysinternal Antivirus. I followed some directions from a Google search and managed to get those to stop. But now I'm stuck with this other problem of persistent pop-ups and other problems.

The computer is 2 years old, so I have no idea where the Windows CD is.
Finally, I wasn't able to compress the two requested files with anything other than WinRAR (it was the default option when I followed the instructions, and I couldn't find the Windows Zip utility), so I just attached both txt files. I hope this isn't an issue.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided!

Hi guys,

I have got a laptop with a fresh instal of W7 Pro x64 on it. When I try to install Office 2007 Enterprise or Office Pro Plus 2010 on it the setup tries to start but then crashes with "Microsoft Office Setup has stopped working". This occurs when it actually tries to install, I can go through entering CD key, choosing install location and what to install no problem.

I have tried installing from a downloaded ISO as well in case the disks were in bad condition but exactly the same issue occured.

Any help much appreciated.

I'm trying to help someone with their Windows 7 machine. They told me that there were a lot of updates that were recently applied and I'm wondering if one of them was an optional driver update provided from Microsoft for his printer. When you go into Devices and Printers the printer is shown but it isn't considered a printer, with the icon for it falling under "Unspecified" (see attached screenshot).

I've seen BSOD's result from drivers for wireless adapters and video cards that were delivered via Windows update before so the first thing I tried was to go to HP's website and download the basic driver from their website, a very small download. Installation appeared to be successful and for a moment appeared to fix the problem because a queued print job started to print. But when we tried to print something else the system said there were no printers installed to use again. Also for a brief moment the printer (as well as a couple of other soft printers like the Fax option and Microsoft's PDF maker knockoff; can't remember what it's called) did appear for a minute with the green check mark over the correct printer icon. It looked like it was fixed for about a minute but then reverted back to what you see in the screenshot without any interaction from us.

So it seems sort of like a driver issue but perhaps there's some service crashing in the background. I don't know. Any ideas?

A:HP Laserjet 1018 stopped working; listed under "Unspecified" in Devices and Printers

I don't have any trouble shooting ideas on this. Might be best to just delete it and then install it from scratch--using the latest installation package from HP's site if there is one.

Well, I feel pretty stupid right now.

Recently I was moving a bunch of files onto a new hard drive, when my system would try to load the thumbnails of some, I would get the error in the subject, and so assumed the file was corrupt, and deleted it, later downloading a fresh copy.

The fresh copies however give me the same error, which of course restarts explorer. The files themselves have worked before, and are from reasonably reputable sites, I doubt they're the issue.

It occurred to me that when this error would occur, the little Matroska symbol would be flashing like mad, and after posting on another forum, decided my best bet would be to uninstall the codec pack with Matroska.

Unfortunately, I believe I did the exact opposite of what I wanted to. I may have uninstalled every codec except ffdshow, matroska, haali splitter, etc, as the error was still present after the restart, but the folder was empty.

The only difference seems to be that explorer just restarts without the error message.

A:Windows A Minor Variation of "host process (Rundll32) has stopped working"

Exactly what are the system specs and do you have a Vista disk.

You may need to run the system file checker and it could require the system disk.

In regards to your immediate issue I would recommend doing a system restore to a day prior to this event so that it can be undone and then we can look into it further and possibly determine what the issue is.
