A: Error 12007 Dell Winxp

Hi renn_j,

There could be a number of reasons for the internet disconnection. 12007 means that IE cannot connect so it is trying at least.

If you aren't sure how to do any of the following then repost. I apologise if I have covered old ground from the previous forum too.

Did it suddenly stop working? Has it ever worked? Did this happen after problems with malware?

Do you have another browser installed? Often another one will connect with no problem

Is there a proxy set on Internet Explorer?

Have you checked the security level on your firewall?

Sometimes the add-ons on IE can cause problems so it might be an idea to switch them off and then if that works slowly add them on until the problem add-on is identified.

It is possible that malware is present. If nothing above works then perhaps it would be worth posting in our "Am I Infected" thread.

That's a lot to cover. Hope it's not too much...

My WMI says it is corrupted, I see no networks in range, the box is blank. I use to manually type in my router (Belkin) to get a connection but now that is not working. I recieve error 12007. I run from windows xp, HP 530 model. I ran a system check and it says a few things are disabled. NET BIOS-DISABLED, ip address fe80::ffff:ffff:fffd%6 etc.

my wlan light is light and it says I am connected, but when I open IE is says "NO CONNECTION"
ERROR 12007

I am told to reinstall drivers for networking but I don't have the orginal program. Can I avoid having to unistall and reinstall all drivers??? Please help.

I have a problem with my desktop computer which is causing me a lot of problems . Let me explain.
I have a Dell Dimension desk top using Windows XP . i have a Sky router which is hard wired to the desk top and connects by WiFi to my iPad. All was well until about 10days ago the Internet connection to the desk top stopped working properly. The reason was error 12007 . Since that time I have spent many many hours trying to solve the problem. By using the iPad I have been able get a huge amount of info from the net regarding this problem but to no effect. I then resorted to taking the computer to my local computer shop to get it repaired. This was duly done ,the guy said that he had cleared out some court registries ad lo and behold he showed me it working ,full access to my browser (Firefox) and all looked well. I then took it home fired it up and lo and behold error 12007 came up again. After several trips back and fore to the shop the problem is still there.
It is a strange situation. I can open Firefox and get the front page (Google) and I can search and get hits for whatever I'm looking for BUT if I then try to open up the hits very often error 12007 emerges but sometimes I can one up the hit, For instance I can search for Hotmail, get hits but if I try to open up any of these hits i get error 12007. If I search for the AA route planner I can open up all the hits and use the planner. There seems no sense to it all. The worst feature is that I cannot access my mails.

I have a Dell Optiplex GX260. It had Win2000 Pro, I installed WinXP SP-3. The reason I did that is the inability to receive (send OK) packets. No Internet connection on a cable that connects OK on another machine. The NIC card is a Linksys LNE100TX v4.1. The Winsock diagnoses OK, I get the correct lights on the NIC card (the internal NIC doesn't appear to be working either, hence the LinkSys card install) and the icon says it is connected at 100 MBPS. There is no HTTP/HTTPS/FTP connection. I can't do a system restore since this is a new WinXP installation. In the Diagnose Connection there is a "semaphore timeout expired" message.

What is the best solution to this inability to connect to the Internet? On another note I cannot get a high screen resolution. That was possible in the Win2000 Pro.

hello all!
I told my father in law about DELLs wonderful deal they were having.. his system was older and kept crashing, so instead of rebuilding it (which would cost him $600) I suggested to him to buy this DELL for $504 complete! great deal for him..

anyway.. he did.. and I transfered everything over, had it working perfectly. It was slower then my XP, but was still nicer then his old system.

then everything went downhill.. he had his neighbor come over and install Printshop pro (I think that was it??) and some Quicken program.. I asked him why he needed all these and he siad.. "I DONNO".. DUAH.. then dont' put them on there if you don't use them..

at Thanksgiving he asks me "I thought that thing was supposed to have a CDRom.. " I said.. "IT DOES.. that's how we loaded all the programs.. ".. well.. then he said that my sister in law had come down and took off the Norton I had set up, and put on McAffee.. (which I read takes a lot of resources to run, and slows things down.. ) and that's when the CDrom stopped working, and now he looses his connection all the time..

well.. apparently my sister in law has a MASTERS degree in computers or something.. so gee.. I guess she knows best eh?

anyway.. he calls me the other day and tells me that now it won't start up at all.. first thing it says that CDRom was not detected.. press F1 continue.. (sister in law told him.. oh. that's ok.. just hit F1) so after a few we... Read more

I'm not certain if this is an IE problem or XP problem since my Firefox won't connect either. All of a sudden in the middle of the day my internet connection stopped on my home computer. I can take my cable and hook it to my old laptop (which I am using now) and it works just fine. The warning says that it can't find the dns server or my ip address. I have been working on this for 3 days now on my own but to no avail. I have tried everything I can think of and still can't get any joy. I'm hoping someone here recognizes this and can help me out.

hi,

i think i put my original thread in the wrong forum. not overly sure but you guys are normally pretty quick to anwser things and that one's been dead a fortnight. so here goes :

i mistakenly moved to talktalk as an isp from bt. and from the day i was connected ive had these problems. i have spent pretty much everyday on hold to tech support for 3weeks and they dont have a clue. i will have sporadicaly disconnecting internet. but the bizaare stuff:
-i open google, no connection you arnt online, i close IE, i open it, google loads..
-i open IE, no connection, pick a bookmark, that loads.. but google wont load..
-i open IE, no connection, nothing works its totally down and i have to run the fix programme that says my dns/ip is static when it should be aquiring dynamic. then it says i have a problem with my tcp stack. then it reboots, and within an hour its broken again. actualy within 2minutes of opening at times..
-im playing WoW, i tab out to check something online, IE has no connection everything is broken but im online playing a game yet the web is broken..
-a problem within WoW itself is that nothing (and i mean nothing; no talking, trading, spells, quest dialogs happen UNless i press a direction key..) [i spend most of my life playing WoW(im a student) and this is quite possibly the most annoying thing ive ever had go wrong.]

i copied a window diag thingy from the log it gave me whilst i was 'playing' wow:

Hi,

My desktop PC cannot connect to the Internet. I get Error Code 12007

The PC uses a Pentium 4 3 GHz processor running Windows XP Professional. I have verified that the Local Area Connection is working properly from the PC to the modem.

I have also used my laptop to connect (using the ethernet cable NOT wireless) to the Internet using the same DSL modem/router (Netgear DG834G v4). The laptop works without any problems.

Any suggestions?

A:Error Code 12007

HTTP Error 12007 means your PC is not able to resolve server address. In other words, it cannot convert string like address (e.g., www.yahoo.com) to numbers like 74.34.22.123. It may be a TCP/IP stack corruption problem. To correct this problem :1. Open Start Menu > Run, type cmd and press Enter2. In the command prompt window, type netsh int ip reset c:\reset.log and press Enter3. Restart your computerIt may be an incorrectly set DNS server problem. To resolve this issue:1. Right-click My Network Places on your desktop, select Properties. Right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties2. In the listbox, double-click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). You would see a TCP/IP Properties window as shown above.3. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically and save settings. If this does not work, you can set DNS servers manually to the ones your ISP supplied or something like OpenDNS servers (208.67.222.222) as shown in the picture. Tell us what happens.

Oh boy, I had this issue about 6 months ago, tried talking to Dell expert PC support for about 20 hours and they couldnt fix it and I had to reformat my harddrive and reinstall Vista. I really don't want to have to do that again. So I'm praying that an expert here can find the issue before I give up and reformat. I have talked to a Malwarebytes forum helper and follwed their steps (fresh install, resinstalling antivirus software, all the common free spyware I could run), which has let me to posting here. Hi,

I recently bought my wife a new NC10 Notepad, but when connecting to the internet via wifi I get a 12007 message returned and am unable to make a successful connection to the internet.

I have searched all of the place on the web but have been unable to find an answer which solves this issue. I did find this old posting on this forum:

http://forums.techguy.org/networking/825924-solved-http-error-12007-a.html

I have tried what is suggested there but I still do not have an answer which resolves the issue.

To complicate matters this notepad does connect to two other wifi`s one at my office and one at a friends house. To further complicate, I have other laptops in my house which do connect to the wifi which the NC10 cannot connect to.

Can anyone advise please ?

Thanks in advance

Disable encryption and MAC Address filtering and try to connect. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect. If unsuccessful please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I have had the HTTP 12007 error, where the laptop connects to the wireless network, but neither IE or Firefox will show web pages.

I have done the following in no specific order:

Reinstalled IE 8
Reinstalled Pro Set Wireless
Cleared the ARP cache
Removed Norton Anti Virus
Pinged yaho.com - doesnt return a message!

A friend said to visit here and ask for help. Is ComboFix the answer?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has the time to help me.

I forgot to say its on Windows XP Sp3 on a Panasonic Toughbook CF18.

A:I have tried to resolve an HTTP Error 12007. Still no web pages!

does it work connected via ethernet cable? Do other computers work with that router?

12007 is not an http error except in the fevered brain of microsoft "make it act like a mac" department.

It is usually because you don't have a good dhcp address, the right dns server, or your firewall is doing what it thinks is best.... and you are using IE.

I am new to this site. I have an ERROR 12007 and cannot access the internet from my desktop. I am using Windows XP Professional on a Pentium 4 system.

I downloaded (from another computer) RegCureSetup_RW.exe. Since I cannot access the Internet from my desktop, I was not able to get it to work properly. I now have doubts about RegCureSetup_RW.exe
Four basic questions:

1) Is RegCureSetup_RW.exe a legitimate file or is it Malware or a Trojan?

2) If RegCureSetup_RW.exe is Malware, how do I remove it?

3) What safe, legitimate software can I use to correct the ERROR 12007

OR

4) What steps can I take to correct the ERROR 12007?

Thanks for any help

Hello I am not computer wiz but I know the basics.

I have been having this problem for over a week now and have searched everywhere for an answer but no help.

I am unable to post a status update, comment on or like anything on my Facebook. When I try these things I am confronted by an error message saying:-

"AN ERROR OCCURED. PLEASE TRY AGAIN IN A FEW MINUTES"

I have tried all the suggestions that I have read on forums, for example:

-cleared browser cache and cookies
-accepted all cookies
-tried different browsers (currently using Firefox)
-turned off Norton Firewall and web safe search
-restored my system back to an earlier date before the problem started

none of these have helped so I am now lost with how to fix this. I have logged a bug report 4 times on the Facebook support forum but I have had no response from them. I am wondering if a factory reset back to default will make a difference to the problem.

Sometimes when I turn my laptop on a message pops up in the bottom right hand corner of my desktop saying something along the lines of:-

"DNS ERROR 12007, UNABLE TO LOCATE SERVER FOR MAIL" something like that but it only appears very quickly and not all the time.

I dont know if this is related to my problem and I cant pin point if the problem is on my laptop or maybe a problem with Facebook website. However, I am able to use my account ok on my mobile phone so this makes me think something is causing the problem on my laptop.

I would apprecia... Read more

Can I install WinXP Pro from older Dell laptop on to new Dell laptop?

I am using a Dell Inspiron 8200 right now and in order to save some money on my new Dell laptop, I'd like to order Home or MediaCenter with the new computer and then install WinXP Pro myself instead of paying the extra $119 to have them do it. I have a Reinstallation CD of WinXP Pro that came with the old Dell laptop; will I be able to use it to install WinXP Pro on my new one?

Thanks.

I had to replace the hard drive on a Dell optiplex 170L. I have a reinstallation disk for the system with sp2. Installation was going well, then stopped with a fatal error 800b0100. Said the signature for setup was invalid. What next?

A:Reinstall winxp pro on dell

I've often found that its a smudge, scratch or bad pressed CD that give bad signature or CRC errors during install. Check the CD, try to clean it off and try again. Also, you want to check the compatibility of the new hard disk, some older PCs have problems with large capacity hard drives.

I just got a second-hand Dell Optiplex GX260. The original purchaser bought it with XP pre-loaded, and had only the reinstallation CD, which I got. Unfortunately, the CD says "This CD is not for reinstallation of programs or drivers." This apparently is true as I'm finding that I have to use the device mfr's disk to get drivers whenever I attach something to the computer. I was wondering if there's a separate driver disk that came with computer (the guy I bought from doesn't recall), and if so, where I can get one. I tried calling Dell, but got tired of pressing and holding.

For the past 24 hours I have experienced a problem in which my web browser will not let me view any programs other than my homepage (Google.com). If I click on a link or try to type in a web address, I receive a notification that Internet Explorer "cannot display the web page."

Initially I thought this was a problem with the router, a virus or the remnants of a virus. I ran the latest version of Malware Bytes Anti Malware program and removed two trojan viruses; however this does not appear to have resolved the problem. When I seek to update MalWare Bytes, I receive a notification that there is an error connecting to the internet to download the latest updates. The message is PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12007, 0, WinHttpSendRequest)

After checking the Internet, it appears others are having this problem and it may be associated with the problem I am having with my browser. If there are spyware, malware or other viruses on my system, I want to remove them.

I sam running Windows XP and have attached the logs of this error.

Please advise if you know of a solution.,

Thank you.

Hi,
I had dual boot on my system with Win XP Home (came with laptop) and Fedora 7(which I installed). One fine or unfortunate day as I left my latop with windows xp and went out for a while some media direct thing was running and it restarted my comp. After that I was getting blue screen whenver I boot into Win XP. I thought I could repair it with the recovery disks that came with the laptop. But when I boot with the recovery CD , it displays "Setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration" for 2 seconds and the screen remains blank. Nothing happens. Thinking that the recovery CD might not be good I tested on my friends Dell 640m laptop. It works fine in that. It proceeded further after checking the hardware configuration. Can anyone tell me how I can resolve this problem.

Thanks.

Okay, so here's what's happening.

I'm fixing a computer that got a very nasty virus from Limewire. I have backed everything up, but I don't think there's actually anything wrong with the filesystem.

I just want to reinstall Windows over top of the existing installation so it doesn't have to redo the entire filesystem and will replace the system files so none of the programs/files will be effected.

When I try to boot up into the XP SP2 install CD, It will not recognize any hard drives. Obviously, the computer has hard drives in it.

if some one could help me get rid of the virus (I believe it's one of those nasty pdf bugs) or figure out how to do an install of windows over top of the existing one without formatting the drive, I would appreciate it. These are my only two options, the client will not accept any other option.

This is URGENT. I have given ALL the information I possibly can. Thanks.

I have 2 Dell Dimension computers, a 2400 and a 4700, both running WinXP SP2, and both with Intel chipsets. The 4700 has been hit with a virus. I have a spare HDD and want to put Windows, etc on the spare 7using the 2400, and then put that spare into the 4700, discarding the infected HD. I have the reinstall CDs that came with each machine. My questions are:

1. Which reinstall CD should I use?
2. Can I set up the HDD in one machine and then use it in the other?
3. Or should I just remove the infected HD from the 4700, put in the spare, and set it up there?

The reason I want to do the setup in the other machine is because the 2 computers are in
different towns, and I'd like to leave the infected one where it is (it's still somewhat usable).

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer Match 44.1%

Dell Dimension E520

The machine came with Vista but it doesn't work with any of the applications that we need. We just went out and dropped the wad of cash on Windows XP and resized the hard drive with the Vista Disk Management.

When we boot into the WinXP cd, it loads all the drivers etc but when it gets to "Starting Windows XP" screen at the end of the driver loading (no graphics yet), it suddenly bluescreens and says to check for a virus or run a checkdisk. We tried this a number of times and its not working.

Due to the fact that nothing is set yet for installation, the WinXP disk should _not_ be even yet touching the hard disk, just loading into RAM. The machine is new and has 2GB of RAM on it, more than enough for an XP install.

Does anyone know what could be the issue? I am wondering if we have to find/install additional drivers at the initial XP disk loading, but I am not sure.

Worst of all this is costing us hundreds of dollars just because of Vista. We tried the VMWare image but that didn't work either (see http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?threadID=86249 )

Please, any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

I would check to see if the HD is seated well. somtimes the drives can get loose. Check side of laptoptop. If thats not the case try starting with The Dell CD That has the OS on it. If the computer asks what to do when it finds disk, choose repair if all else fails. DO NOT CHOOSE REFORMAT or anthing else.

Everytime I reboot the computer, skype (since it launches at start up) tells me that there are no sound devices. I go to the device manager, but the sound device is listed. It doesn't work though. I try winamp/wmp etc, no sound. So I do a uninstall, and redetect and its all good.

Now if I reboot the computer, I have to repeat this whole process. Now, I thought this had something to do with the onboard audio, so I diabled that in the Bios, and added a pci sound card, but the same thing happened.

Does anyone know whats going on??

This computer also has issues with WinXP sp2s firewall. I can't turn it on, but thats an issue for some other thread..

thanks,.

The situation: This PC was not protected from virusues, etc, etc, for 2 years.

I wanted to delete both petitions, set up the one particition as active, format it and start clean to get everything back on in good shape..

Problem: The Dell install disk would only let me delete a tiny FAT particition of 40 mb but not the big one where all the propblems live.

In the next screen, Dell's CD told me I would be writing a duplicate program on top of a program and create problems. (That is a new one on me!) So I stopped the installation to think about it. Now when I turn it on, the PC starts and stops repeatedly. looping endlessly !!

I tried to get into the bios again to guide activity to a new Cd with a Winxp pro disk in it, but the F12 key command doesn't work (logo is being skipped), and the Dell PC ignores the XP pro CD anyway--it just keeps on restarting..........

How can I shake this Dell Dimeniosn 2350 PC out of it's daze? I can't return it to my friend this way!

Just for curiosity-----
Why didn't it let me delete the main partition so i could totally destroy those bad files. It's breaking all the install rules I know!

Help would be apreciated--counting on some of you brains out there!

I had to reinstall WinXP on my Dell XPS M1530, and now Windows doesn't detect the bluetooth unit. The symbol in the line with power buttons etc is lighted though. I have software from before, but could only copy, not install it. What I find works only in Vista. Broadcom's own bluetooth software does neither detect a bluetooth nor work without that. In the control panel there is no icon for bluetooth, even though Windows help suggests exactly that.

Does anyone know how to do that? It worked before, but now I can't figure out how, even after hours of googling...

Best regards

First time posting.

Symmptoms were browser re-directs, very slow loading desktop on reboot, and Outlook cannot check POP3 account.

Checked IE proxy settings and look OK.

Downloaded Mallwarebytes and installed, but would not run until I renamed the exe file. Then would load and run, but received the error in topic title when try to update. Ran full scan without update and it fixed 3 items but did not fix any symptoms.

Tried Rkill but that did not help either. After it finishes the dos window shuts and I get login prompt for one of my software programs. No info given on any processes stopped.

Browsing pretty much shut down completely now...can go to google and thats about it. Using another PC to leave this post.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,I was probably infected on the night of Dec 13/14th. Noticed that my desktop background had changed to a green background with black text box saying that my computer has been infected. Since I had to go on vacation I just pulled the internet cord out to prevent additional problemware from getting installed on my computer or sending my information over to other computers on the net.I have come back from vacation now and am now beginning the work required to fix my pc. First things that I have noticed - I don't have access to Task manager, rightclicking in the Tray shows me a grayed out Task Manager option Regedit doesn't seem to work. It displays a message "Registry Editing has been disabled by your administrator". But I'm running in an administrator account. I can't boot to Safe Mode. When I tried, it displayed a BSOD. I can boot normally and displays my normal WinXP screen with a listing of all the users. However when logging in with password, prior to showing my desktop it shows a dialog box saying that I've been infected by "Worm.Win32.Netsky" and assigns it a '5' rating (from a 0-5 scale). Closing the dialog (using the x) leads me to my desktop whose background is now different. There is a program called "Internet Security 2010" that automatically starts up and is warning me of multiple infections. And is also popping up messages about detecting spyware in SpyBot.Bank32.dll and also detecting attacks from various internet connected compute... Read more

First off, hello to everyone.

A friend of my dads, his computer had been infected with spyware or viruses or something and he had it taken care of by some other group of people (I do not know who he asked to help resolve the issue), and he said that he is no longer getting sounds from it.

I did some looking around at his request and noticed there was a few other errors and things wrong.

Needless to say, now I am just stuck on aspects of trying to resolve the PCI Card error which is displayed as a Yallow ? on the device drivers page. I did some searching around, went to Dells Support page, and tried both of the audio drivers as well as the COnexant PCI card drivers it mentioned, but nothing seems to be working.

It makes me wonder. If they indeed formatted and had to reinstall the OS, could it be possible they installed things in the wrong order?

He has a Windows XP Home Premium Computer. It is Service Pack 3 as well. It is known as a Dell Vostro 200. He still has the Driver Cds that came with it, and it seems to mention the PCI card could be some form of communications modem. But, I get the feeling that is not the case as he is not getting sound, so I assume it could be something more.

I tried installing the Conexant Drivers, as well as the Creative Labs and Realtek Audio drivers as well for it, but unfortunatly, nothing seems to work.

Could it be possible that I may need to format the computer, install the Windows OS, then the Core Drivers and then the individual driv... Read more

A:PCI Card/Sound issues on WinXP SP3 Dell Vostro 200

What is this "PCI card error" that you refer to?

FWIW: There is no order to install drivers.

If there is a device reflected in Device Manager as requiring drivers...I would simply insert the original drivers CD and allow it to self-install, rather than manually trying to install random drivers.

The Dell drivers for that system can be downloaded from the Dell website, if you choose not to use the Dell CD.

Hi, hoping for a Dell Guru!

I have a problem with a friend's machine and unfortunately I have 'more accomplished user status' than him and somehow got roped into this problem.

We live in China, he bought a new Dell 2010 with Chinese UBUNTU onboard - everyone assured him he could put on English Windows XP when he bought it so he scrubbed the harddrive and loaded on XP (original disk, an amazing discovery in China!!)

So he got it working ok, but of course it has some issues in missing drivers (no resource CD, because UBUNTU OS). And the place he bought it from will only service a Chinese OS, not English OS, so we are a little stuck.

Drivers missing are
1) audio
2) One called SM driver which I believe is 'chipset' and should have been installed first, but I don't have a copy!
3) PCI (no internet/network card connection working so probably that!)

Issue is that we don't have a Dell Diagnostic disk for this machine or a partition backup (it was UBUNTU). And Dell seems to recommend Win7 as the desired OS on it's websites.

Win7 is not most desirable solution (old system, can't update machines and previous compatibility issues make my friend 'unhappy' to do this) - so looking to see if we can get drivers from somewhere that are applicable.

Any ideas most welcomed!

Lets go with the DEV & VEN numbers form Device Manager>

To open "Device Manager", right click on "My Computer" (Computer in Vista/Win7) select Properties, On the Hardware tab Select Device Manager, if you see any yellow question marks, right click on the device and select properties, on the Details tab select Hardware IDs copy the PCI/VEN and DEV numbers and post them on your next post.

Hello,

WINDOWS \ SYSTEM32 \ CONFIG \ SYSTEM

I have reset the bios, then I inserted the original Dell reinstallation cd for Windows xp professional . Then, I tried the (ASR) method first; but the problem with that is, it prompt for the ASR floppy disk. (In which I do not have a floppy drive.) Is there another option? Is there a way I can aquire such file and possible download and burn a bootable copy onto a cd? Run it that way?

Please help..... Thank you in advance.

Boot off of the Windows Disc Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn Boot off of the newly created CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Drive Fitness Test in my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn and boot off of the newly created CD and run the short and extended tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.

Something or another was wrong with my mom's old laptop and she decided to reinstall Windows to fix it. Now I don't know whats wrong, I don't know a ton about computers and neither does she really. A few months ago, I purchased two Dell Dimension 3000 systems with2.8 GHz and 1 GB RAM and Win XP Home edition service pack 2. I put one into service back then and the second one into service this week.
Using either IE 6.0, or Firefox, the first one displays web page menu links and cells pooly, with no background graphics (tabs, colors, etc.). Also, it displays type very large, even though both machines are set for the same medium type styles.
On Yahoo, for instance, all three columns don't fit on the screen. The middle column hogs the screen and right scrolls down, then the left column and finally the right column. My second Dell 3000 displays everything perfectly.
Settings on both machines are the same. Display properties are 1024 by 768 and Highest 32 bit color. Both DPI are 96. When I click on Settings- Advanced and then Intel Extreme graphics 2, there is a difference.
The good machine shows Intel 82865G Graphics controller 6.12.10.4020. The troubled one shows a message "more visual display options for devices attached... such as Television, digital display... are available here". When Graphics properties are clicked the good machine brings up a properties window with six tabs (Device, colow, schemes, hot keys, rotation, information). I have a Dell 4300 that I inherited from my dad, running WinXP-home, with a factory Conexant v.92 56K voice modem When I install AOL, or NetZero either, (I tried that too) everything seems to connect fine until it gets to downloading the list of access numbers. At that point, the modem disconnects. I have run all the diagnostics I can find, and connected through Hyperterminal, and it all checks out fine, no problems. I have even installed two other modems, added +MS=V34 to the commands, changed the default to read the same, set the speed to 9600 baud, tried to force it to use Com 3 (it defaults to the next available, Com 5), and I have run out of ideas. Same deal (or worse) every time. I am currently on line with my old computer, using exactly the same phone line, even the same cord. It is slow, I'll admit, because I live in the boondocks, but it does work just fine. So why won't the other one work? I have a feeling that some setting in the bios is causing a conflict, but nothing I've tried there works either. Does anyone have any ideas? Oh, and I talked to my dad, he used the same modem and never had any problems. I am obviously out of my league here...

If you are not using your serial ports go into your BIOS and disable them. I had a similar problem and XP Home kept wanting to grab the IRQ3 serail port. I could not change the setting in Windows for whatever reason so I disabled the ports. It's not like I use them anyway.

Hello,

I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 4600 using the WinXP Home System Recovery disk. I'm not sure if that disk was the one that came with that computer or not, but the reformatting procedure was going fine until the screen changed to a black screen with "Gateway" displayed on it in large white lettering with a white scrolling progress bar that animated for a few seconds, then froze. I figured that the reformatting process would take a long time, so I walked away, but several hours later, I found that the screen hadn't changed at all and the computer didn't seem to be doing anything aside from just sitting there, displaying that same image.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there something wrong with the computer itself (e.g., I'm not using the correct System Recovery disc)?

EDIT: I almost forgot -- I'm planning on donating this computer, so I'm not concerned with losing any data on it.

Good evening,

I work for a law firm that uses Dell Optiplex's ranging from 745's to 790's with all inbetween [745, 755, 760, 780, 790]. Our NJ satellite office also has these Dell model ranges, but all of them have Windows XP SP3 installations. These machines generally either have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Drivers or the ATI Radeon HD 3400 series card/drivers for those models that do not have an available display port. With that said, all machines have dual monitor setups as well.

The issue, put simply: almost a 1/4 of the PC's in our NJ office lose their second monitor on almost a daily basis, where we either have to re-extend the desktop to the other monitor or we have to play the unplug/shutdown/re-plugin game with the display port adaptors.

We're about to run a report containing the following information for the affected machines: OS, BIOS, Video Chipset, Connector Type [VGA2DP, DVI2DP, DP2DP], Power Save Settings. However, I'd like to throw this forum post out there to see if anyone knows any specific Windows XP Pro SP3 issues that exist with utilizing dual monitors on these machine types and/or how to resolve them. Thanks in advance for those who can assist me with any information.

On a Dell Dimension 9200 I downloaded and installed the latest MS updates for the WinXP Media Edition. After the install the computer had to restart to complete the install. I let it do its thing while I got a coffee. Half an hour later the computer still had not shut down and was on the last phase of it. I let it go for another 2 hours to come back to find no progress had been made so after not getting any response from Ctl, Alt, /Delete I resorted to helping the shutdown by using the power off button. Since then (5 days ago) I have been trying everything to get it to boot up again; it only boots to before the bios. That is the CDs lights come on along with the numbers at the front bottom and from then the power fan runs at what seems full speed. The numbers showing at the front panel are 3 and 4. Pushing any of the F keys has no effect. Could someone help me here please?

Any VGA monitor should work it doesn't need to be a Dell. The monitors Default resolution may be too low for XP, when Windows tries to correct it, to a higher Resolution, the monitor fails. Try booting into Safe Mode and use the monitor controls on the front of the monitor to see if you can change the default resolution to something higher. Then boot into Normal Mode, Right click a blank spot on the Desktop./Properties/Screen Resolution and try pushing the bar to the right.

Hi all.

I need to get some video off of my camcorder, so I bought a 3 port firewire card from Belkin.

I intstalled the card into an open PCI slot beneath my video card, closed everything back up, and turned on the power, nothing happened. My CPU was getting power, but there was no signal to the monitor, or anything else. Windows never loaded, and no other

I changed the card into another open slot and the same thing happened again. I took the card out, and it booted up normally.

I have a Dell Dimension 4550, running WinXP. I don't think there should be a problem like this. I spent half an hour on hold with Belkin tech support before I had to attend to my 15 month old who trapped himself in a closet.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

My husband's Dell laptop has been having crash problems intermittently for the past few months, usually while using the latest Firefox (not surprising because web browsing is mostly what he uses the laptop for), but he believes it stems back to a Windows update -- not sure which one exactly, but whichever one gave him the new IE with tabs. The computer has been twitchy ever since then.

Last week things progressed to Windows not starting up at all and consistently bringing up a BSoD upon every restart - Normal, Safe Mode, and Last Known Good Configuration.

In the BSoD, there is not a specific file or driver listed as the problem. Here is the STOP error code we consistently see:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x86F59E7A, 0xF79907B8, 0xF79904B4)
(I can transcribe the entire blue screen text if that is necessary)

I tried to use the Dell support site to troubleshoot the problem -- I followed the "guided path" tech support, trying each recommended step, none of which did anything. I stopped when I got to the suggestion to open the laptop and unplug all the third-party devices plugged into the motherboard. Knowing me, I'd get electrocuted. And we didn't alter the hardware once we got it from the factory anyway.

I ran Diagnostics and the memory passed all the tests. On the Dell "Windows XP Blue Screen Troubleshooting" page, it suggests updating the BIOS or rolling back any updates. I have no idea how to do any of those things when Windows won't ... Read more

I have the problem of "setup did not find any hard disk drives". I have a Dell Precision 690 with Intel Xeon dual core processors. The IDE ATA Controller is Intel 631xESB SATA. The hard drive has 700 GB.

64-bit Windows does not have drivers for some of the most important software I use, so I wish to be able to do dual-booting on this computer. I bought a 200 GB Maxtor drive and installed it. When I tried to boot with a Windows XP CD in the drive, I got the famous message "setup did not find any hard disk drives ?". I have tried all the options discussed in this forum with no luck. In particular:
1. I used nlite to slipstream the SATA drivers which I downloaded from the Intel website. I downloaded both the 32-bit (f6flpy32.exe) and the 64-bit (f6flpy64.exe) drivers. I created the WinXP CD and booted from it. Every time I get the message "iastor.sys is corrupted" and the booting was aborted. I tried all combinations of slipstreamed CDs (Win 2000, XP SP4, etc) but with no luck. Note that I also copied the driver files from the C drive of the x64 installation and got the same problem.
2. I then tried the floppy diskette idea. I saved the driver files in a floppy and during booting I hit F6 and tried loading the drivers (one at a time and in combination). I got the same error message. Sometimes I got the message that the drivers I am trying to install were newer than the ones in the CD. I tried both accepting and rejecting the use of th... Read more

Hey guys!I've posted in many other forums but I haven't received much of a response at all! Hopefully I will will get one here! My problem is:I was scanning my computer with Malwarebytes on my user account. I told the rest of my family not to log on to their accounts as I am scanning, but another member of my family forgot and logged onto their user account, and came told me that the screen is just black. There was nothing I could do so I held the button on the processor to shut it down. I waited for a bit and then turned it back on. The processor started up but then it shut down and a blue screen appeared! I have posted what the Blue Screen shows below. I have noticed that when I restart and it appears again, some of the information sometimes changes, like the file windows says is causing the problem! What the Blue Screen shows:"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ati3duag.dll <- this bit sometimes changes to something else when restartedPAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA <- This bit sometimes changes when restartedIf this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.If p... Hi .

Do this...Start/Run...type msinfo32 and hit Enter. Click Components/Display. Post what's listed in the right screen for the 1st, 3d, and 4th lines.

Do you have your Dell drivers CD?

Don't do any of the following yet . I need to figure out the correct drivers you need first.

The ati3duag.dll error...should be your video drivers. They are probably damaged, maybe not. In any case, I suggest uninstalling them (using device manager)...then running the chkdsk /r command...then reinstalling the video drivers.

Start/Run...type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter. Click Display Adapter, double-click the specific item now displayed. Click Driver tab, click the Uninstall button.

To run chkdsk /r....Start/Run...type chkdsk /r (exactly as shown here) and hit Enter. Type Y in response to new screen and hit Enter. Reboot the system.

The command will execute...then boot into XP.

Intel 82562V-2 10/100 Network Card.

It's a dual boot and when I boot into Ubuntu, the networking works fine.

Boot to the XP pro side and nothing.  I can enable/disable the card but when I check status is shows that it's connected and the time its been connected but it shows not packets in or out.

Any ideas of things I could do/try.

Thanks!

A:No network connectivity - WinXP Pro SP3 ; Dell Inspirion 530S; Intel 82562V-2

Just a thought but have you tried something as simple as connect automatically in the internet options settings?(internet options,
connections,LAN,Automatically detect settings)
I know its a simple thing but its easy to overlook,my xp will do this occasionally after using my dual booting Lubuntu,no idea why.
I asked a programer why a clean system would do this and he said even
a small electrical surge could cause a setting change,so who knows.

If that doesnt work it might be time to repair the internet, reset the win sock etc..hopefully you dont have a viral issue messing with your settings.

Hello everyone.

I am an entry level intern IT/IA guy and am in need of help.

A computer in my work place is having issues and is getting the Blue Screen Error.

My boss wrote down the error codes as:

STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x89A03020, 0x89A03194, 0x805D22DA)

0xF4 is a CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION
0x03 is an INVALID_AFFINITY_SET

I tried to look up what the last three are, but turned up empty.

If anyone will please help me out, that would be awesome!

Side Note 1:
The Dell support diagnostic tools will not download for some reason. Keeps coming up with an error of "can not access the internet", or something close to that, even though there is internet access and it can access the internet.

Side Note 2: I believe that the Service Pack is 2, it maybe 3.

Side Note 3: The laptop is a Dell Latitude E5400

I have read multiple postings about folks spend hours on the phone with Dell about Blue Screens of Death and Inspiron 530. I too bought a Dell Inspiron 530 - the First machine, after installing my lexmark printer 3400 driver not only gave me blue screens but memory issues with the windows desktop not painting correctly and icons missing! So I called Dell and they told me how reset the machine back to the factory settings...but I still encountered the Blue screen of Death even after that and then going to standby/hibernation and coming back - clicking to yahoo and checking mai! Boom Blue Screen every time! I called Dell and they replaced the machine with another Dell Inspiron desktop 1 week ago. I hooked up the new one and the same exact thing has happened - I restored the settings again and have already had the dreaded blue screen Stop error code 0x40000080 even with out now installing anything related to a printer!!! all while coming back from hibernation! So what I have read here is to get around this issue is to never let the machine got to standby or Hibernation is that correct?? or do I need driver updates! why in the world I would need new drivers when this is a brand new machine!!! HELP in CT!

Thanks!

Go into your Device manager and see if there are any conflicts/issues noted by a yellow triangle with and exclamation mark in the center.

You are the second person here today with a DELL computer and 0x80 errors.

A:Error In Winxp

Hi Arunk1512,Are you using Internet Explorer version 6 or 7?If you are using IE7, try running it in a No Add-On mode.Start/ All Programs/ Accessories/ System Tools/ Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)Also, I would strongly recommend you scan your computer for malware with free programs like Ad-Aware and Spybot - Search & Destroy.

hey folks, thought i would toss this one out there.

I'm running this program that was sent to us that is used to interface with some chips that we design here (no not dorito's), and i can imagine that its trying to directly access the hardware in some way/shape/form and im getting the following error:

the ntvdm cpu has encountered an illegal instruction

Is there some way i can allow this to do what it needs to do or osmething? possibly some virtual dos emulation on its part?

Hi, every once in awhile I get an error that pops up and it says on it the following...

lcc Runtime: GP fault. Stack trace

Corrupted stack. Impossible to show trace

Can anyone tell me what this means and how I might get rid of it?
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Chris

A:What is this error in WinXP?

I've always known the stack reference toward your Device Manger Stack or your Network Properties Stack.

Maybe look at your Device Stack and make sure everything is clean with no problems. Possibly the same with your Network.

I get random errors that state my system is unstable, unfit, and other things when I try to run certain programs. The message usually tells me that MSDOS can't run on NT, but I'm running XP. For instance, I can't get into regedit. Please help. Thanks

A:NT error in WinXP

Download CWShredder and run it. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree with it. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit.

Download and install Spybot S&D. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.
