Mozilla Firefox / Internet Explorer Crash After Visiting Certain Sites

Q: Mozilla Firefox / Internet Explorer Crash After Visiting Certain Sites

Hello,

I've recently discovered a problem with my computer. After visiting certain sites and clicking on a second link on that site, both Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer will crash. So far, I have found this problem corresponds to two different sites, Lords of Pain (Wrestling News Site) and [email protected] (School Site). I was going to post this in the Malware Removal forum, but then I saw this topic in the forum. I also have noticed that the problem does not occur if I use Google Chrome, but I would much rather use Mozilla Firefox. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello BrianJBustos,I see that you have an HJT log posted here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/211124/computer-running-slow-browsers-crashing-ff-ie/ We do not allow more than one topic for the same computer and the same issue as this causes confusion, and in this case may make the disinfection process more difficult. This leaves you with a choice:1) Have this thread reopened and the HiJack This log topic deletedOR2) Keep this thread closed and wait for assistance in the HiJack This log forum. Please note that that forum is VERY busy. Please send a Private Message indicating your choice.Assuming you wish assistance in the HiJack This forum, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. Good luck with your log.Orange Blossom

Hi,
Just recently I have encountered a problem trying to open up Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. Every time I open up Firefox, i get a message saying that it has encountered a and needs to shut down. But it is strange because if i dont click the "close" button, firefox opens normally and i am able to use it.

Internet Explorer causes more trouble on the other hand. For some reason Internet explorer opens up on its own, but no homepage window comes up. Instead, I get a window saying that IExplorer has encountered a problem and it needs to close also.

I checked my task manager processes and IExplorer keeps coming up even if i dont use it. I become very impatient and annoyed when trying to write reports and papers because about every 5 seconds the Internet explorer problem window pops up. I have tried to uninstall Internet explorer but there isnt an uninstall even under the control panel/ remove programs.

On top of this, my Maleware Bytes app. wont open up. I have downloaded other free antmaleware and antvirus programs, but they do not find any problems. . I am using the free versions of advanced systemcare 3 and Lavasoft's Ad-Adware. I downloaded HiJack this and have saved a log that I will post. I hope that helps. Im running on a Dell Latitude D180 with Windows Xp. Thanks

On Sunday I noticed that Google was redirecting me to random sites, predominantly expandsearchanswers.com through Mozilla. I ran Malwarebytes which found and quarantined several tracking cookies it identified as trojans, but that didn't solve it. IE was not having the same problem initially, so I uninstalled and upgraded to the newest edition of Mozilla, as well as Java, uninstalling the older programs. The new Mozilla and now IE as well are redirecting to find-stuff-fast, informationgetter.com, expandsearchanswers. I ran Malwarebytes again this morning and it found two new items it identified as Trojans.

(Note: I am submitting this on my work computer since I'm wary of using my laptop until resolved, but I do not have it with me this morning to run any of the programs to fix this.) Thanks for the help in advance!

Hi Folks,

I'm at the end of my technical capability here and need some help. Basically, the title says it all - my browser window crashes intermittantly - the commonality I've noticed between the sites it crashes on is that they have Google ads. I know some virus/spyware can latch onto specific sites, so I try all the tools I can get, with no success in either identifying the problem or correcting it. I used

-Bitdefender
-Ad-aware
-Trendmicro
-Spybot S&D
-ewido

i am currently running IE 6.0 but i did have IE7.0 & Firefox i would like to know the pros and cons of each and which one people prefer

A:Internet Explorer 7.0 Or Mozilla Firefox

Never used IE7.Have 6 installed.I don't like anything about IE.I use Firefox. It's a more secure browser than Internet Explorer, because it doesn't use ActiveX controls, but Java applets instead. Also, if a security flaw is discovered (which doesn't happen often), it's usually fixed within a few days, as opposed to the months you have to wait for an Internet Explorer security patchIn most instances, you will find Firefox to be a faster browser than IE, especially if you employ pipelining.Firefox Web Browser - PipeliningThe reason it's faster is because Firefox doesn't come pre-loaded with a bunch of features you don't need. You can run Firefox as lean, or as bloated as you want with the use of extensions, which allow you to customize it the way you want it, not the way someone else thinks it should be.Enhancing Firefox with Browser ExtensionsExtensionsNOTE:When adding extensions I'd advise adding one at a time, try it for a couple of days, and if no problems arise, add another.Sometimes extensions have been known to cause problems, due to incompatibility's, or corrupt downloads. If you install them one at a time, and test it, it's easier to troubleshoot if one starts causing problems.I've been using Firefox for several years (since it was known as Firebird), and wouldn't go back to IE for any reason.I think once you get used to using it, you'll feel the same way.Give it a try, you have nothing to lose.If you don't like it, just uninstall it, that easy. You can find other alternati... After trying for about a week with the various anti-spyware softwares that I've had, I have yet been able to find a way to get rid of this virus. It seemingly pops these pop ups randomly: in a new tab in Mozilla Firefox and a new window in Internet Explorer. These items only come up if one of them is open, and has never opened up either Interpreter itself. I've blocked several of these IPs with McAfee, but it's still giving me a problem. Most of them seem to be for somewhere called "directdr" which tries to sell some cable service to me.

Also, I know that I have two active-ish scanner, both McAfee and Avast!, but they have yet to conflict in the years that I have used them, nor have they scanned at the same time or any other such things. I suppose having two just makes me feel secure, and both have something that the other doesn't.

i was wondering if internet explorer was needed if i have mozilla firefox because im trying to speed up my computer.. its been very slow lately.

A:is internet explorer necessary if i have mozilla firefox

I don't think they let you uninstall IE from vista.

And no, I wouldn't uninstall IE, there are still some sites incompatible with firefox. And if you really need to view a page for work or school right away, then you do not want to take the chance of having to search for and download Internet Explorer (IE) at the last minute.

Although if you are able to uninstall IE, you could reinstall a lighter, older version of IE.

Also, there could be other things slowing you down. Press ALT+CTRL+Delete then go to task manager.

Have media player IE or some other program to use as benchmark and look at the memory usage.

If you have programs running that seem to be using a lot of memory, investigate what they are and if you need them running. If not, then uninstall, close, or change there settings so they are not running all the time.

But it could be your antivirus software is the hog.

Does it hurt the computer to have internet explorer and Firefox together? should i remove the internet explorer?

A:internet explorer and mozilla firefox

It does no harm at all to have more than one browser. I've got Firefox, Internet Explorer and Chrome installed at the moment.

Each has their advantages and disadvantages. Firefox is good for personal customisation through addons. IE is good for some things (can't think of any off the top of my head though), and Chrome is very light and fast.

I would advise leaving Internet Explorer installed. It's not doing any harm or wasting system resources.

Right, so recently my brother has been having a bunch of problems with viruses and the like, I scanned his computer and installed avast. However, Malewarebyte's and avast's scanners both freeze. But, I was able to "abort the scan"s and I uninstalled somewhere between 17-20 viruses.

But anyway, it has been fine. Up until today.

When firefox.exe is executed, a DOS prompt flashs up but immediately closes. Internet Explorer gives me a "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error message. I do know that he has had the Google Redirect Virus and he very well still may have it. He gets these totally random Security Alert pop-ups that are standard from Firefox, but obviously being hijacked and abused. That's why I suspect that the browsers have been hijacked.

However, I figured since Avast was installed, Virus activity would be halted. That's why I posted it in this forum section.

I've seen several people with both browsers not working before, but this is completely different, with different symptoms.

Download OTMoveIt.exe from here and place it on your desktop:

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com...r/OTMoveIt.exe

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.cmd to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).

Recently I helped my brother procure a new laptop ? a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga. Nice machine. He's using it for work (he's a physician) and personal stuff. I've helped him with some configuration tasks, and a member of his work I/T staff has done probably the bulk of whatever configuration it has needed. When doing my bit, I installed Mozilla Firefox, even though his I/T guy had already intalled MS/IE. I installed Firefox really for my own use ? to help me browse the web to find anything he might need for his new laptop; I just wanted to use the browser interface I'm familiar with. I've been using Firefox for some years now, having switched from IE.

Anyway, that's the background. Recently, my brother told me that his I/T guy UNinstalled Firefox because "it has security issues and only MS/IE should be used on his laptop" (that's a rough paraphrase).

I was a bit surprised to hear this since I've been unaware of any noteworthy security issues or concerns with Firefox. On the other hand, I haven't exactly been looking to see if there were/are any. So, I thought I'd ask the experts ? hoping that one or more among them might have and want to share their thoughts on this.

I did try searching this forum for some relevant info, and before coming here, I tried a wider Google search but in both cases didn't really see anything illuminating the answer to my subject question.

Before closing, I should mention that (as one might expect) his new laptop is running Windo... Read more

A:Is Microsoft Internet Explorer more secure than Mozilla Firefox?

A) IE comes with Windows 10 (as does Edge), so the "IT Guy" didn't install it

B) IE is going to be there whether you use another browser or not. Some people consider having an additional browser to be yet another possible attack vector (regardless of it's security record). In other words, If you're stuck with A, then A+B is more insecure than A alone.

C) Edge has proven to be a very secure browser so far, and is just as compliant as other browsers.

D) His work may have security policies about which software can be installed, or should be used. And therefore, you may have inadvertently violated a security policy.

E) Firefox, like all browsers, has had security flaws. Some of them critical. See Security Advisories for Firefox ? Mozilla

I'm not saying that Firefox is any more or less secure than anything else, but regardless it's your brothers computer and he has to use it at his work, so ultimately it's their call what to use.

Hello.

My system is Windows XP Professional SP2.

I use Mozilla Firefox as my default internet browser as I prefer it to Internet Explorer and have been doing so for quite some time without any problems.

I also use CCleaner V.2.04.543 which is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool.

This is my problem.....

A few months ago, (and this is only happening with CCleaner and not with any other program updates), when I click on the link to check CCleaner for updates, both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox open and take me to the same update site.

If any updates are available, I can download using either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox but I don't know why Internet Explorer keeps opening and only for this program.

I usually just close down Internet Explorer and use Mozilla Firefox to do my updates but it is annoying and I would like to know why this is happening and how I can stop it.

Thanks for any advice...

Regards...

Please note that I am only a beginner....

A:Internet Explorer & Mozilla Firefox Opening Simultaneously

What do you know... I get the same problem. Just now I tried CCleaner and that happened. I can't see any settings for updates where you could change it though. maybe it it some kind of bug.
I agree it is probably rather annoying, but if you have it set to automatically check for updates it will give a popup saying when a new version is available.

When it goes to the Internet Explorer main page it tells me that it is connecting to the Web Site I am trying to access, but doesn't go any further. It does not open E-bay etc. I don't remember changing any settings etc. I also don't think that it is a security issue, but I'll let you to work that out. Please get back to me soon and meanwhile I'll try to work out what has happened.

Hi,

I'm a Vista user. My IE 8.0 stopped working after I did some "questionable" downloads. The internet works when I start the computer in the safe mode, but in regular mode IE will not open any websites and Firefox won't even start. I can, however, update softwares and connect to IM in regular mode.

I spoke with AT&T high speed internet tech support and they said I have a virus or malaware problem. Whether Windows Firewall is on or off, the problem remais.

My anti virus is AVG8.5, I have run scans of Malawarebites Anti-Malaware, Search & Destroy and SuperAntiSpyware.

Please help.

Thank you

Hi, so my laptop was recently infected by the Antivirus Soft virus. I thought I had gotten rid of it with Malwarebytes, but I think that it is still infecting my computer. I can get Firefox to run, but Internet Explorer, MSN, Safari, the iTunes Store, and Google Chrome will not run. I tried uninstalling Live Messenger and then reinstalling to see if it would then work, but was not successful. When attempting to sign into Live Messenger, it cannot connect to service because of the Proxy Server. I hope that is enough details. Please help! Thanks.

Hello,My problem is exactly, word by word, as this person's http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/267742/internet-explorer-opening-wrong-pages/. When I open Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, they open to the correct home pages, which are the yahoo nad google search page respectively. When I search for something, they take me to the list of websites. When I click on one of those links, either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox takes me to a different site. In order to get to the right website, I have to copy and paste the address directly into the address bar. I have run SuperAntiSpyware; it found SystemBrokenFile Association and lots of cookies (about 80, every time I run it). I deleted them, but the problem is the same. When I run AVG 9.0., it is not founding any problems at all, except for cookies. Please, help me. I feel defeated. I cannot resolve this issue.
I have random new windows that open in both IE and Firefox, mostly to either Google search page or Yahoo home page.
I cannot get rid of references to AVG being installed in dds. I have removed it with opswat's AppRemover.exe.
I would like to know not only what I should do next, but why. I cannot find any information on what the kernel code sections mean from the gmer log. This is the only place I see any odd stuff.
What am I missing?
I am reinstalling AVG following this post.

Hello all,
This is my first post and I hope I am following all protocols correctly. Being the typical guy I have been trying to solve this issue on my own for months and I am unsuccessful. My issue is I have a Dell Inspiron 640m and currently running Windows XP. Internet Explorer will pop up a new window every minute and eventually freezing. I usually use Mozilla Firefox but I have the same issue there where it actually pops up new windows and tabs that have links to antivirus websites. The popups are a lot more frequent on firefox than IE, so I've been using that more often. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have Hijack this if I need to attach a log of what comes up. I can hardly get any work done on this laptop due to the annoying pop ups, please help!
With gratitude,
saxgrove

Hi Folks,

My computer has been taken over by a virus and I am now only able to visit certain websites that require a password to enter. (facebook, mobileme, banking, etc). Cannot browse general websites (google, msn, windows, etc.). This ocurred on Dec 31st about 2:11PM as I tried to install a program that scanned OK with Norton AV. I then downloaded Twister Anti-Trojan and scanned the file to find out that it was infected with Trojan.Agent.dsci.ynkb. I have tried the Windows Malware Removal and it didn't correct my problem. I cannot find any information about this trojan on the web. Norton AV did give me alerts after the fact stating that conhost.exe was blocked from download by hxxp://4kversions.biz/gsver/gsver.php?sft=master-keystroke-logger-10.11.01&idm=800023

I have unplugged my connection to the internet until I can resolve this.

I have scanned my computer and have attached the files as requested. Any assistance will be appreciated. PS - I am on a different CPU to enter in this request.

My computer has the preloaded restore information (windows) on the D: drive of this computer.
Thanks Gerard

I had a Win Security Center fake virus. I manually removed the registry entries according to instruction I found on the net. I was able to stop this virus but I'm sure I didn't remove everything that I should have. Just after that, all my internet searches were being redirected. That seems to have stopped, but now, IE and Firefox both crash when I do a search and try to go to the second page of any search list. This happens no matter what browser and search engine I use.

Also, my cable Internet Provider just sent me a new modem. They did not send the drivers. When I boot, my internet connection is sometimes not available until I go to Network Connections and click on my connection to enable it.

My big problem now is that both IE and Firefox crash. Also, often after browsing a site, Facebook for example, my connection dies and I must reboot to reestablish my modem and internet connection.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

So I'm trying to do some website stuff for someone here, and apparently my browsers hate godaddy.com

More specifically, Internet Explorer and Firefox both crash when I try and use godaddy's java FTP client.

I click the link to launch it and the browser just closes. (Not gracefully, it's as if I killed the process...)

Anyone know what this is about? I've been trying to get some answers but the only thing I've come up with are people saying "disable the silverlight plugin in Firefox", but there's nothing of the sort installed in my Firefox, and this wouldn't be relevant to IE crashing.

I tried it on my other computer and Internet Explorer worked just fine, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Well, I got it to work... not in the nicest, cleanest way, but the quick, brute-force way. :haha:
I just ripped out everything Java in the system, and then installed the latest versions.

I'm going to get straight to the point considering my computer crashed while writing about the crash.
I'm running a Windows Vista 32 Bit HP Pavillion dv6500. Everytime during the time I use Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera the browser doesn't respond and crashes the computer. It crashes like this randomly. I talked to the HP Technical Support guy and he recommended that I buy a $128 2GB new ram card. It helped for about 1 day, then afterwards it all began again.
Have any of you ran into this before? Do you know a way I can stop it?
Thank you!
Elizabeth

I AM SORRY ABOUT THE TITLE IT SHOULD OF BEEN "FIREFOX AND INTERNET EXPLORER CRASH"
When ever i open firefox or internet explorer it says it has encountered a problem and then closes the program. I have tried to reinstall both program and it still crashes. I have run malwarebytes and even though it found some problems and removed them the programs still crash. When i run Internet Explorer on Safe mode it does not crash.

Have you tried running IE without add-ons in safemode or tried using Msconfig to perform a clean boot?

Well, like the title says, Firefox keeps redirecting me to random sites. For instance I clicked on a wikipedia link and got sent to Travelocity.com. This just started happening earlier today, out of nowhere, and it's only Firefox that does this. The last things I remember downloading are Artweaver, Torsion, Notepad++, and Torsion, but that was all maybe over a week ago. I've used Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and deleted four infected files. I've researched a few other threads but I'm still not exactly sure what I need to do. Can somebody please give me some direction? I'm using Windows XP by the way.

I don't know why, but it seems that i can only view BC in the lo-fi version.

Even if i scroll all the way down to the page, and click the here link to view the full content(which i got from previous threads), it still displays BC in the lo-fi version. The home page displays perfectly though.

I also can not play the game Adventure Quest. I can on IE though. The status bar shows that it is waiting, connecting, transferring and all of a sudden its done even though nothing has loaded except for the options at the bottom. When i right click in the window, it says that the movie is not loaded.

Strangely enough, i can play other game requiring Flash like DragonFable which is from the makers of Adventure Quest....

I tried hitting the reload the page a million times for both problems but nothing ever changes. I even tried unistalling and then re-installing Flash player to solve the Adventure quest problem but to no avail.

I am using Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.5 to browse. Can anyone help me?

Also, does anyone know what the errors displayed in the error console(Firefox) mean and/or how to fix the errors?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I have been having a browser crashing problem now for months. I have Windows Vista and use Mozilla Firefox as my browser. Every time i try to load a certain page on my social networking site mozilla crashes and i get a message about mozilla was having a problem & it needs to be shut down and then sends a crashing report. This happens quite often and i cannot do much on my social networking site. I have taken mozilla off and reloaded it and i am sure i have the most recent one. i have taken all my players off and reloaded it, like Adobe flash player and Adobe Reader & Java. I have reloaded and made sure i have all the most recent ones of all these but still i have the problem. I thought it might be a connection problem but then surely my browser will just give me a message saying it cannot establish a connection, surely it will not crash the whole time. I hope i get some answers soon because i have done all i can think of. I use Norton Antivirus program for incase that needs to be mentioned.

Mozilla fixes Firefox crash bug

A week after releasing security update, it patches regression bug that crashed Windows browser

By Gregg Keizer
November 7, 2009 02:48 PM ET

Computerworld - Just a week after it last updated Firefox, Mozilla has rushed out a new version of its browser to fix a crash bug that programmers inadvertently introduced.

Firefox 3.5.5, which Mozilla posted for download late Thursday, fixes a small number of what the company called "stability issues" in the release notes that accompanied the update. Unlike almost all interim updates that Mozilla issues about once every six weeks, version 3.5.5 did not patch any security vulnerabilities.

The main bug quashed Thursday was one that was causing a high number of crashes in the Windows version of Firefox 3.5.4, the update that Mozilla launched Oct. 27 to patch 16 flaws.

More at: Mozilla fixes Firefox crash bug

A:Mozilla fixes Firefox crash bug

Firefox 3.5.5 still crashes regularly under Windows7 despite Mozilla's claimed fix - tonight I had 3 crashes in 39 minutes. However it has now been going crash-free for the last 3 1/2 hours after I opened Internet Explorer and left it going while Firefox was running. Downloads, graphics, pages, film clips etc all worked ok. Could I guess that something in Firefox/ Windows7 refers occasionally back to Internet Explorer and crashes Firefox when it isn't accessible? Anyone out there having similar problems might like to try this unlikely solution and report whether it works for them too.

Hey,
I just got vista 64bit and Mozilla Firefox keeps crashing on me.
I've heard there are some compatibility issues with Firefox and 64bit windows.
Is there a patch out, a windows tweak or an alternate version of Firefox out to solve this issue?
Another application I'm having trouble installing is Flash CS4, It keeps preparing the install files to a temp folder and then tells me that it needs to close and to check the destination drives disk space/ write protection settings.
(note the destination drive has over 400gb left on it!)
Please Help.

The word is "crashes", as it is plural, not possessive.

That taken care of, a quick search of the MozillaZine forums indicates that there are no official releases of 64-bit Firefox, and there won't be for some time.

Index page • mozillaZine Forums :Insert "64-bit Firefox" in the Boards search box (on the right side of the screen.

I was able to kill it with RKill, but there are still some lingering issues going on.
When I try to connect to the internet via Google.com I get this message "Internet Explorer Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!"
I have run Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials.
They have removed numerous Trojans etc, but I still get the Internet Explorer Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!
When I tried running HIJackThis, I get a message "For some reason system denied write access to the Hosts file...."

Any clue how bad it really is?

I have an infected laptop running XP Pro SP3. It had Spyware Protect 2009 on it but I was able to stop the sysguard.exe process and delete sysguard.exe from the Windows subdirectory and from the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\....\Run registry hive. There is still at least one other major problem. IE 7 is redirected to display "internet explorer warning visiting this web site may harm your computer" most of the time. I can get to google sometimes and even search something but when I try to follow a link - I get the redirection message. It also prevents me from running a system restore and most of the scanning software such as malwarebytes, SDfix and several others. I was able to run HijackThis but when I tried to post the report, it redirected me again so I saved the log file to a thumbdrive and logged onto an uninfected computer to post this.

Hi,

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

This has been a recurring problem with the 32-bit versions of Firefox that I've used in the past. I've now switched to the current 64-bit version (43.0) only to find that this problem is occurring.
I had been keeping the 32-bit version bug at bay using the user environment variable "MOZ_DISABLE_OOP_PLUGINS" but that no longer works for the 64-bit version. I've gone so far as to add "64" to the variable in several different ways but none of those worked.

Any suggestions on a fix or workaround for this?

Suggest: Clean install flash player.

Flash Player removal tool: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player...r-windows.html

Make sure you follow all steps including step 3d

Delete:
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
%appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player
%appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player

Confirm deletion by attempting to navigate to the above folders once they have been deleted.

Important: Step 4.1
Restart your computer before fresh installing flash player.

Other stuff you can try:

Backup your profile (bookmarks and extensions)

MozBackup - Backup tool for Firefox and Thunderbird

Uninstall Firefox and delete leftovers:

Include these steps:

 Note
To remove other files and folders that may not be removed by the uninstall, you must manually delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations by default:
32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

Hey everyone,

Im just wondering how many of you use IE explorer versus Firefox. I switched to Firefox a couple of years ago for security purposes but quickly found out that its much quicker for surfing in my opinion. I also think that it has a better download tool. Heh... and it had popup blocker built right into it when IE users had to download the tool. Some sites require you to be using IE explorer for their products or services to work... and if they didnt, I would totally remove it from my computer.

If you have not checked out Firefox, I suggest you do. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ I do not work for or am affiliated with Mozilla or Firefox, I'm just someone that realized there is a better free browser out there.

I guess the purpose of this post is that I happened across a site that requires IE (found that out in the dialog box that Firefox gave me) and trying to access the page with IE, I keep getting the web page is unavailable crap. Grrrrrrrr. So how many of you feel the same? Sorry if you think this is pure spam or if this has already been discussed. Thanks for your opinions.

Hi surrender,

Yeah, some websites are built explicitely to work via ActiveX which is not supported by Firefox.

What I have done is to download and install the following extensions so that such websites are viewed by IE when Firefox accesses them:

IE View - open pages in IE via Firefox menus
IE Tab - w/IEView download Windows Updates: ... Read more

I need some help--I believe my son 12 year old son is visiting inappropriate website while we are at work. At the end of the night I clean out the temporary internet folder to free up space on the computer and last night I was just scan the folder and found all kinds of porn websites!! So I clean it out and when I logged on this evening the sites he normally visits are there but so where other porn sites.

Tell if Im wrong but is it true that every website you visit is recorded in the temp internet folder? and so popups get space there and when those cookies automatically go there is the computer is just left on which is what he is trying to tell me.

So is there another way to find out a list of websites that have been visited.

I really need to get these questions asked.

Thanks

Hi,
I had 4 screens running mozilla firefox explorer accessing internet. It was hanging so I closed(terminated) them. Then when I started mozilla firefox explorer again : it said the default is in use and to choose or create a new one. I chose to create new : then I find that I cannot access my bookmarks and all the history of websites is gone. Can someone help me go back to the original default so I can get my bookmarks and history. Thanks

* Sorry I am not clear as to which default it said is in use. Thanks for help.

A:mozilla firefox explorer default

To set firefox as your default browser go to Start -> Set Program Access and Defaults. Double click custom and then on choose a default web browser select firefox. Any internet pages should open now in firefox, and you will be able to access your bookmarks and history.

Had a bad storm last night, so I shut down the comp. Restarted this a.m. tried to stream the Arsenal match and mozilla would crash every time I tried to leave the home page. Went to IE, watched the match, and then began to TS moz.
After a bit I decided to unistall. Upon trying to reinstall i get a corrupt file error msg during extraction. I then tried to d.l. Chrome and had problems w. that too. Yet amazingly enough, IE works fine. Is this Microsoft just f'in w. me 'cause I'm not amused?
I also notice that in my start menu I have no quick select icons for network connections, control panel, etc. any help would be great. thx.

The other day I was just following some links to a couple of sites, one was free6.com and the other nudeamateurhoes.com and now I have a weird icon on my taskbar. The icon itself says curse when moused over but has no way to exit the icon like the others on my task-bar.

Anyone every experience this problem and is it related to the sites or did I get it some other way.

Btw I did manage to find it and it in my programs folder and it is called curse.exe but when I try to delete it I am told I dont have access rights or something like that to delete this file.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi all. Ive been battling this issue for a few days now. whenever i visit sites such as myspace or espn.com, when im either searching around on the sites my computer will lock up. i can hear it processing information as if it were getting sent massive amounts of information, yet when i check the sites on another computer in my house i dont have these issues. i tried disabling javascript and it worked for part of the problem, but when i started to search the website further, i encountered the issue again. This occurs with both internet explorer and firefox, and my flashplayer and windows media player are both updated. ive searched my computer with spybot and adaware.

A:Computer locking up when visiting certain sites

Try reseting you security permissions. Goto tool > internet options > security tab. Click on default level, then set it to low hit apply, then move it right back to medium and hit apply. This will put it back to microsoft recommended settings. let us know if that works.

Operating System - XP

Over the last few months, the Windows Explorer on my laptop has become excruciatingly slow. Simply trying to move to an adjacent directory can take minutes, specially with Mozilla Firefox.

Related / unrelated - I have seen CPU/memory max out as well - though not always.

I am unsure if it is a virus issue or is it something that has to do with windows explorer issues, which I have seen a few threads on on the net.

I woud appreciate any advice you might have.

Thanks!

I can't call up any sites with Internet Explorer. I don't know whether this is a blessing or a curse. I have tried all of the pinned suggestions. I have a linksys router which I've bypassed and I've turned off my ZoneAlarm Internet Security; heck, I've even uninstalled it. Reiinstalled when discovered that that wasn't the problem. My uber-geek bud, 'SoundBlister,' wonders what is my problem. My Firefox, Opera, and K-meleon work fine. Automatic Updates works fine. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the OS, XP Professional SP2, and still obtain the same results. I have tried it without selected programs installed. I have had the hardware and software environment checked by an ex-employee of Microsoft. He couldn't find anything wrong, except IE can't raise any sites. I live in Huntsville, AL and in a rural setting without any profound radiation sources. None of my neighbors have this problem. I figured that I must be doing something during setup or configuration (like turning off the wrong service), so I got a friend to install XP the last time. Nope. I forgot about the problem for a few months because it doesn't really bother me. I can download from the Microsoft sites with Firefox; Microsoft provides a plugin for that. It is the mystery that bothers me. Any theories welcome. I don't have this problem on my other Windows computer, just my main one. I don't use IE on my Mac.Any information needed beyond what I given?

Hello,

I have Windows XP Pro SP2.
I have run a complete system scan with Avast, Registry Mechanic, Ad-Aware, and superantispyware with no luck.

As the title states when I startup and log in, iexplore.exe is running in the background and sucks up a fair amount of my CPU.
I watch the Avast Web Shield and it shows me ie hitting a bunch of sites I have never been to before, mostly TV sites. I can also here the clicking links sound in my speakers and occasionally some noises when it hits a site with audio.
Once I just kill iexplore.exe in the task manager everything goes back to normal.

I'm not sure how it all started, but I initially noticed it because the task manager was disabled from my account! I figured out how to re-enable it, but now I'm stuck with this thing...

Your help is greatly appreciated,

Neil.

A:Iexplore.exe Runs In Background On Startup And Starts Visiting Sites

Hello NeilH and welcome to BC I see that you ran registry mechanic. The writers of registry tools don't know what specifically you have on your system, and if you don't know what you are doing, you can create real havoc with your computer or programs. One of the most important things to do when changing things in the registry is to back it up so you can reverse it if necessary. I completely hosed my Adobe products by using a registry cleaner. Fortunately, I was able to reverse what I'd done because I'd backed it up.-------It would be helpful if you posted the log from SUPERAntiSpyware. Did you run it in Safe Mode? Please indicate whether it was safe mode or normal mode when you post the log. In order to find the log double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop.o Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log and choose the appropriate date.o It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).o Please highlight everything in the notepad, then right-click and choose copy.? I have been using Firefox for the past few weeks I've had various viruses yet it still worked fine. Today it was saying that I had no internet connection even though I do have one and Internet Explorer works fine. This is what it says when I open Firefox:

Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.bing.com.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
I tried rebooting my computer and it said it was installing updates so I hoped that the problem was over. I tried to open Firefox after rebooting and it still had the same error message. I've had a google re-direct virus could that have caused it? Any help is much appreciated because I really need to use Firefox as soon as possible!

I've searched for days online about this issue, and it appears that I am not alone - however after trying basically all of the solutions that I have seen online I have had absolutely no luck trying to fix this.

For some strange reason, internet explorer does not open up any pages, and programs or games that use IE therefore also cannot (for me this includes Batman: Arkham Asylum).

I do not have a firewall active, have deleted any anti-virus application on my computer, and have checked the internet options - there is no proxy buttons ticked.

Hi, welcome to TSF

Click 'File' at the top left of the Firefox window and make sure there's no checkmark next to 'Work Offline'. Click it to toggle on and off.

If that doesn't fix it, go to the Start button at the bottom left of the screen, type firewall into the search box and hit Enter. Click 'Inbound Rules' on the left and see if Firefox is listed.

hi. this is my first post here. thanks in advance for taking the time to help.

(oh boy, can't wait for the jokes on this one, btw. hehe.)
-my girlfriend and i use some adult meeting sites. (and yes, we're over 18.) a few days ago we signed up with AdultFriendFinder.com. we were using Explorer as the browser. for 2 days, everything with the site functioned as normal. then my girlfriend came to me and said, "i can't bring up the AFF site."
-i went to our computer and tried to open the site (still with Explorer) and got basic message you get when a website is typed in incorrectly or it can't connect, etc: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" (see attached pic: explorer1). i tried a number of times with the same results.
-i then tried opening AFF with Firefox and it opened fine. i have to admit, at this point i wondered if my GF had played with some weird option while i was in the other room and screwed something up in Explorer.
-so for the next 2 days, we could open AFF just fine in Firefox, but still couldn't with Explorer.
-but since this morning, i can't open AFF with Firefox either . last night we could open it, but this morning i can't. (i know my GF didn't do anything wrong too.) but it's weirder than with Explorer. when i try to open AFF with Firefox, it searches for a few seconds, then comes up with a Google search as if i just typed in the letter "p" and nothing else and hit search (see attached pic: firefox... We have a multi-port modem which also does wireless. While we can open all websites on my partner's PC (plugged in to the modem, ADSL 2 internet) my PC (also plugged in) and my laptop (wireless) refuse to open the open occasional website (eg baby bunting, iinet). This is the same for both Internet Explorer and Firefox. The page just cycles through till timing out without loading anything.
My PC is running Windows XP Pro and the laptop is on Windows 7 (both up-to-date), while my partner's PC is on Windows XP Home. On the laptop I've tried disabling the firewall, loading a different firewall, loading different virus scanning software, un-installing and re-installing firefox completely, and un-installing and re-installing Flash (working fine) and un-installing Skype & pluggins, to no avail. I haven't yet uninstalled Spybot (I don't have Teatimer) but my partner has this on his PC (he also has the same firewall and virus software I currently have on both machines). I have no other anti-virus/malware software.
Help! This is not crippling, but just really annoying!

(oh boy, can't wait for the jokes on this one, btw. hehe. go ahead, but this really is a serious issue.)
-my girlfriend and i use some adult meeting sites. (and yes, we're over 18.) a few days ago we signed up with AdultFriendFinder.com. we were using Explorer as the browser . for 2 days, everything with the site functioned as normal. then my girlfriend came to me and said, "i can't bring up the AFF site."
(i know my GF didn't do anything wrong too.) but it's weirder than with Explorer. when i try to open AFF with Firefox, it searches for a few seconds, then comes up with a Google search as if i just typed in the letter &... A:browsers crash when visiting dailymotion - ntdll.dll is the problem?

There could be a lot of things that are causing this, something that all the browsers would be using, Flash, Antivirus or other security software. But no, ntdll.dll is not the cause a lot of things use it because it is the system. So you will see it a lot in crash dumps.

I received a notice from Mozilla Firefox saying that they were downloading some updates and that I should turn off the PC so that they could be installed. I did a restart... and Mozilla Firefox now will not connect to Internet... that is, it will not open sites such as Google, TSG etc...

I recently switched from IE to Firefox because I was tired of all the holes in IE that practically shut my computer down. I read somewhere, however, that Windows Update only works with IE. My question: If I have made Firefox my default browser, will my automatic windows update feature still work in the background?

A:Mozilla Firefox, Internet Exployer and Windows Update

Yes, make sure you do not uninstall IE, you will need it for updates etc..

Hi all!!

This is my first time on a forum so please excuse me if i do not give enough information. Let me know and i'll post it again

My problem is related to the Internet Browsers Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. One day I opened my Laptop as usual and Mozilla Firefox wouldn't open any webpage. It simply said 'done' in the bottom left hand corner. Sometimes it would open a page but it will be painfully slow and the pictures and videos wouldn't load at all.

Skype and Messenger connect but are extremely slow and it seems that the wirless connection is only receiving half of the packets it sends.....

I really am at a loss with this. I have no trace of Norton Anti Virus anywhere on my laptop. (after searching through a basic find file and folders search on my computer). In addition The windows firewall allows Mozilla Firefox and the proxy settings are all ok (Unchecked). Is there a chance that this could be a virus??

Any help would be very much appreciated :)

Thanks a lot !

Dan

on my other computer my internet is still up like i still can chat on AIM, MSN, etc
but mozilla firefox and internet exploerer act as if there is no internet can someone explain to me what the problem is ?

A:Mozilla And Internet Explorer

I am not sure I understand "no internet" in the context of the two browsers. Can you give an example of what happens, and any error messages you are getting, even if it is "page not found."
Have you made any changes to your firewall that might be preventing the two applications from accessing the internet?
Regards,
John
