Import contacts & calendar in Outlook after I already restored inbox?

Q: Import contacts & calendar in Outlook after I already restored inbox?

I replaced my hard drive and made a backup of the old drive contents before hand.

I installed a new version of Outlook (2007) and have downloaded all my old emails off my web server - so my inbox is working perfectly. I want to add my contacts / calendar, etc, but I am afraid if I import or "add" my old PST file I may get duplicates in my email inbox. How can I prevent this??

Thanks!

You should just be able to select what you want imported.

I've got Windows XP, newly installed Office 2007.

Here's the history: I formerly had Outlook 2000, and my .pst went over the 2GB limit, so my Outlook stopped working. Did a patch that truncated the file below 2GB, tried to bring it back into Outlook, but it didn't work.

We installed Outlook 2007, tried to bring back the >2GB .pst, but it appears to be corrupted (we assume--is it?), won't work. When we tried to bring back the truncated file, the first time (we replaced duplicates) it brings back email and over 8000 reminders (some are simply emails, others appeared to be contacts and calendar entries); the second time (we did allow duplicates) I got a few of my tasks back, but not all, and it didn't bring back reminders and does not populate contacts or calendars.

Any suggestions most appreciated!

I decided to back up my old e-mails into an external new HD. I found the inbox.mbx folder and renamed it to move it to a new folder. But then I discovered in panic that the whole folder had dissapeared from my OutLook Express client and when I tried to import it back to OE there was this warning :the "folder could not be found or was in use by other application". Something I read trying to solve this problem by myself, was that if you donīt copy, move or rename in the proper manner, the whole folder could get corrupted. Now this problem is beyond my power and I will indeed appreciate your help to get my inbox folder back to OutLook Express, before I do something else wrong. I know where the folders are but I guess I have a problem with the renaming that I am unable to solve. Please Help.

Hello,

I've got a major trojan and I need to reformat my computer. Even my e-mail is hacked. So I would like to save my inbox and contacts in Outlook but am having no luck with the autoarchive. Anyway, I'll need to move the files to a backup hard drive and then try to import them back into the new installation of Office 2007. Can someone please direct me if this is possible?

Thanks,

All of your email information (Contacts, emails, etc.) is stored in your Personal Storage file.If you locate and back this file up, you should be able to import it into the new install of Office to retain all your information.Depending on your configuration and OS, Microsoft has a guide here.

Hi,
Can someone point me to documentation on how to import contacts into Outlook when the contact list is in some other format - in this case a .rtf file?
I thought it would be good to run some automated procedure to get the .rtf file into the format that outlook expects for an import of contacts.
Thanks

Would it be possible for you to create a CSV file instead of a RTF file?

Someone else maybe able to help you with this better, but I have heard that "A RTF file is difficult if not impossible to import into Outlook contacts."

I have an Acer desktop pc at home, running WIN8 Pro, and I use Outlook 2010 as my primary (POP3) email tool.
Obviously I have an extensive contacts file in there.

I have just bought a SP 128Gb and installed Outlook 2013 on the one month free trial.
So, far I like it.

I took it in to work today and the IT guys set it up for connectivity to the Corporate WiFi, VPN, etc.
Cool! Now it's a mini-me of my work pc!

My question is, and I'm a complete dummy here, is how can I copy my contacts info from my home pc into my Pro?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I am so confused about where outlook 2013 keeps things.

I have installed Outlook 2013 and would like to import my contacts from my outlook 2007 in another computer. I have already prepared the contacts.pst file from outlook 2007 and made it available in my public folders. I then imported the .pst file into Outlook 2013 via network. However the contacts shows up as a separate contact list rather than integrated into the outlook 2013 address book . How to correct it?

I must have got the process wrong.

Thanks

A:outlook 2013 import contacts from outlook 2007

OK. I found the imported contacts in a separate list inside the address book. There are 2 lists one is "In This computer" the other is just "contacts" . How do I make the "contacts "list as the default so I get an address book when I click on 'To" ?

I installed Outlook on another computer and can't access any of my contacts. I guess Outlook does not save the contacts automatically when I send someone an email. How is the quick search address installed. I think it is when I send and email to someone it remembers their address and then I can just type in the 1st letter or two of their name and will show me the email address. I replaced the PST file with the old PST from another machine. If I put some contacts in my address book shouldn't I just be able to start typing their name in a new message and the email address show up. What is the cheapest/best program for extracting email addresses in outlook from inbox/sent messages. It doesn't seem like the address book is talking to sending someone and email like it does in hotmail,Gmail. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Basically here is my situation, I had an iPhone, I hate Apple, so I'm using the new Touch Pro 2 and I love it!

However, I'm trying to get all my contact on there, around 300, and they are all stored in the "C:\Users\{User}\Contacts" folder. I need to get them to sync with the Mobile Device Center. The only way I know to do this is to put the contacts in Outlook 2007.

If you have a better mouse trap or know how I can do this, please chime in.

A:Import Windows Contacts to Outlook

I had the same problem. Evidently you have to specifically check the folder that you want to import from the .pst file. So I did one import and go my archived data, but no sent or received. Then I did it again and chose sent. It worked. But no received, so I did it again and it worked. But no contacts. I did it again and chose contacts. It worked. Be careful to correctly select import duplicates or not and to correctly choose the existing personal folder to import into or you will get a duplicate personal folder in the list (its ok, you can delete it). In the end it was simple and I just needed to pay more attention to what I was doing. My fault for doing it at 3 am! -S

A:Import Hotmail contacts into Outlook

This may or may not work,
1. First have the HotMail acct installed in your OE application. To do this follow instrucitons at this link
2. Than open up Address Book> TOOLS> Press Synchronize Now.
3. This will move contacts from the Address Book's Main Contact folder
(not any contacts in sub-folders that you have created) to the HotMail
Address Book, and visa versa. You will need to check both address books
for duplicate entries, and delete as necessary.

Hope it helps

Hello,
The title would make it sound like a simple problem, but I can't figure it out for the life of me. Here is the situation. Last week a thunder storm blew through and sent a electrical spike through my protection and rendered my motherboard useless. My computer guy salvaged my data for all users from the drive. Once the motherboard was replaced, he had to repair the OS,(Vista). He then plopped the data into a folder on the drive. Now I just need to reload my programs and all that stuff. My question is this: I see the folder with all of my contacts in it. How do I get those contacts back in Outlook 2007? I tried the import wizard, but it seems that there is no option for importing that format. I looked at the properties of one of the contacts and it is listed as a .contact format. What is that? Any help would be appricated.

I'm trying to create a email distribution list. I've got all the names in excel and I figured the only logical way to do this would be to import the excel spreadsheet into my contacts in outlook and then create my outlook distribution list from my contacts in outlook.

When I go to import my spreadsheet I get the following error message.

"An error has occured in the Microsoft Excel translator while getting the contents of a file system.

The Microsoft Excel file "c:\folder\excel.xls" has no named ranges. Use Microsoft Excel to name the range of data you want to import."

The error makes sense but I don't know how to name a range.

I had a users XP system crash. I had backed up their complete mailbox, calender, contacts to a .pst file. I reloaded the OS , set outlook 2003 back up and reimported. I went to import just the calendar into their current calendar. Ok.. so the appointments show up! 2 minutes later they vanish.

It allows me to import the .pst as a whole into personal folders and there they have a second calendar but thats not my goal. They dont want that. They want the calendar entries in their current calendar.

We are running exchange 2003 with postfix as a relay. Not sure this has anything to do with the actual server but im lost at this point for an explination!

My girlfriend is having a serious issue at work after they've upgraded from Office XP to 2003. Her outlook calendar didn't seem to upgrade properly, and she's ended up with two calendars (an old one and a new one).

The new one (the default) is completely empty, and the old one has all her old appointments in it.

Ideally, she would make the old one her default in 2003, but the IT people have said she cannot do this because her default is determined/linked to the email server.

Alternatively, they have tried to export the details from the old calendar into the new default one, but this does not entirely work. Appointments from the old calendar do appear in the new one, but appear to be "shell appointments" only. I.e. they show no details of who has accepted meetings, who initially sent the meeting request, and there are no recurrences. In addition, if someone subsequently sends an amendment to a meeting, acceptance etc, this does not appear to register on the new (now default) calendar.

Any ideas anyone without going through each individual appointment and setting it up again.

Thanks in advance

Pete

If you are like me you prefer to use the Wincal.exe calendar program that comes with Vista instead of the Outlook calendar. This may also work for the Windows 7 Calendar found under “C:\Program Files\Windows Calendar”.

The reason for these instructions is that icalshare.com doesn’t download the calendar file to your hard-drive but updates Outlook directly so here are the instructions on how to export a calendar file from Outlook and import it into Vista’s Wincal.exe.
Go to http://icalshare.com/Click on the link for the calendar you want to download. There will be a window asking you to allow an Outlook update. Click the ALLOW button. Outlook should start automatically and you should see the new calendar there. Create a folder on your desktop called “Calendar Files”.Click on the tab of the new calendar in Outlook. (Note: Outlook’s default calendar is simply called “Calendar”. The other calendar is the new one.) On the menu click FILE then SAVE AS…Save the .ics file to the desktop “Calendar Files” folder you created. Close Outlook.Open Wincal.exe On the menu click on FILE then on IMPORT…Go to the desktop “Calendar Files” folder you created. Click on the .ics file you saved from Outlook.Click the OPEN button on the lower right hand side of the window. The calendar will be added separately from your other Wincal.exe calendars. Hope you find this helpful.

I work at home using Windows XP and a remote desktop connection (RDC), specifically Terminal Services. I want to be able to sinc my pda with my Outlook calendar and contacts (don't care about the email) which are located on the remote server. My pda does not support the remote connection, so that is not possible directly. Besides the RDC, we have web Outlook, on which I can get my email, contact, calendar... everything... through the web, without connecting to the server through the RDC. I have set up a pop3 account to download the email to my hard drive, but this is not what I want to do. I keep far too many emails and would just as soon not download them, since all I want downloaded are my calendar and contacts so I can sinc it with my pda. I don't even care that I could not upload from my pda. All I want to do is to get my up-to-date calendar onto my pda, so when I go to meetings I have it with me. It is ok, if I have to enter new calendar items directly through the RDC and not upload from my pda.
The question is...can I download my calendar and contacts through a pop3 account, or otherwise??? Also, is there a way to do that without downloading the emails?
Thanks for your help.

Hi, recently have been transferred from using Outlook for email to Lotus Notes at my workplace.

None of the techy guys have come up with a good way to transfer my Outlook contacts which are local to my laptop to my local address book in Lotus Notes.

Looking for a easy way to do this and free of course!!

Any ideas?

Thanks

A:Import Outlook contacts to Lotus Notes

In Outlook, click File, Import Export, select export to a file, select file type - most likely Comma separated or Tab separated will work.
But you may need to do some editing of exported file Excel to comply with LotusNotes field naming conventions, sequence of fields, etc.

Perhaps this will be useful to your techy guys (who should have prepared for this when they switched you, what were they thinking of!)
http://unlisnotes.unl.edu/notesteam/notesfaq.nsf/b1178870309c168b86256a860076cf8a/9456cd3c54b2b22e86256a5c004df7a4?OpenDocument

If you describe what your techs already tried and failed to do, someone here will find an answer. Also computer system and Outlook version might help.

Hi, We are a team of 25 who all use the same contact list (which contains addresses, organisation name, tel numbers, emails, contact names etc for approx 600 organisations). We regularly have to bcc all these contacts in to emails. We previously all held the distribution lists (sorted alphabetically by email) and had to let the rest of the team know when details changed so they could be updated by all. The problem with this was that the distribution lists do not hold all the information needed (e.g. addresses, organisation names) and contact information was not always updated as it should have been. I have updated an excel spreadsheet containing all the information and I would like to create a macro for all the team to periodicaly import this data in to Outlook Contacts and possibly create distribution lists from these. I trust this makes sense I am using Outlook 2003.

I recently lost my job and was able to have a coworker burn a copy of my .pst file to cdrom. I have "easily" imported the .pst to my home PC, however, the calendar and contacts are missing from my import. Needless to say, I am dumbfounded and frustrated.

I have searched the web, Microsoft, and this forum for answers, but I can't seem to do anything to get the .pst to show the contacts. btw I'm Running W98.

Here are my questions:

1. If I copy the .pst versus Outlook export function, do I lose my contacts/calendar info?

2. How do I retrieve my contacts from the CDROM? keep in mind I have already gone through the import function AND also tried copying to the windows\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook folder with the same result.

3. Is it possible that the pst file did NOT contain the contacts folder?

Any help is appreciated. My other data source (PDA) ran out of juice and required reset.

I created an e-mail account in Windows 7 and 8 WLM for my POP (ISP) e-mail account (the only account).

I exported my Outlook 2003 contacts to a CSV (comma separated DOS) file. I start WLM in Win 7 (or Win 8 they both work identical) and select contacts and then "Import" Comma Separated Values CSV and select the CSV file created with Outlook 2003. WLM goes through the motions like its importing but when its finished there are no contacts imported.

In Outlook 2003, I have "Contacts" and also a sub contacts folder for a club e-mail list. I only want my regular Contacts, not the club e-mail list. However, if I select "Address book for current user" in WLM it will import the club e-mail list only.

I've been over google searches and this forum's tutorials and searches and didn't come up with anything I haven't done or tried.

Put Contacts in the Search or Run box and it should take you to the Contacts Folder in C:\Users\YOUR_NAMZE\Contacts. I usually use Windows Address Book on WinXP to Export the contacts to a .csv/Comma Separated Value file which can be use for importing into a number of E-Mail programs and some Webmail and can also be opened in a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel, Corel/WordPerfect Quattro Pro, Lotus 1-2-3, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, etc.

Hello. This is my first time posting here, so hopefully I'm doing this right.

I was trying to import calendars (NHL team schedules) from two different Excel file (.xls extension) to Outlook 2003 and not all of the inputs added to the calendar.

For some reason, only 43 entries added from each file (86 total). There should have been 82 each (164 total)

I tried deleting the rows in the Excel file that DID load and just leaving those that did not, and then importing the file again hoping the fewer rows would help. It did not.

All of the inputs that are not loading are in the same format in Excel as those that did, so I know that's not an issue. I also tried changing the dates to see if, for some reason, Outlook has a limit to how far into the future they will allow you to add. Same problems.

I can add appointments into the Outlook calendar manually with no problem, but I can't seem to import anything else from any file.

Can someone lead me in the right direction to see how to fix this? I've never had this problem in the past when doing this same thing.

Thanks.

Is there a way to get the .pst and .ost files without actually running the Outlook program? And about a week ago, Outlook froze up; not receiving any new emails, unable to delete the old emails in the Inbox, and unable to clear the Deleted folder. Any ideas?

Trying to recover Outlook contacts and calendar from a HDD that cannot boot..... Is there a way to get the .pst and .ost files Click to expand...

Sometimes the hard drive is too defective to retrieve any files. Often a "hardware" and/or a "software" method can be used to retrieve some or many files that were not backed up for some reason. The "hardware" way is to install the hard drive into a USB enclosure and connect it to another computer. The "software" way is to boot to a "rescue disk" (CD, DVD or USB flash drive). My choice is Puppy Linux.

Hi,
Today, I subscribed to two newsletters, and attached to both email confirmations I received, were .vcf (vCard) files. I never got those attachments before when subscribing to any newsletter. My Hotmail email program was recently updated to Outlook. I have Windows 7.

When I click on the vCard files, a Windows Contacts "Properties" box opens, containing basic contact information (email, name, name of company).

- Since they are .vcf and not .csv or .txt files, can you tell me how to import these contacts to my Outlook [live, previously Hotmail] contacts.
- Also, can you tell me whether these .vcf cards I receive attached to email subscription confirmations are a feature of the new Outlook interface?

Thanks for your anticipated help!

I have Outlook 2013 through Office 365 and liked it until I tried to import my contacts. It's a CSV file from Windows Live Mail. Unfortunately Outlook absolutely refuses to import my contacts properly. I get everyone's names but NO EMAIL ADDRESSES! Totally and completely useless. I have tried everything and Outlook just insists on ignoring the email field. I am beginning to hate that I pay $9 for this crap. It shouldn't be hard to import contacts!!! I tried to delete all the ones that had been imported since they are useless to me and of course Outlook refuses to let me do that too. I can't find the folder anywhere and it won't let me delete all. If I sound angry I am...I am frustrated and don't have time for this. I need my COMPLETE contacts. Why is it refusing to do something so simple? When I open the CSV file in Excel everything is there including emails, so it's not me messing up or the file. Help??

Got an Acer with Vista & Windows Mail -- my old Dell had XP Pro and Outlook. I had no problem backingup Outlook to a Seagate external and connecting it to the Acer .. but Windows Mail does not seem to import Outlook .. only Outlook Express. My wife's computer has Outlook Express .. so I thought I would email her my backup file and import it to Outlook Express and then back that up and email it back to me and import that to W Mail ... but the email will not transmit with the backup file attached "not enough memory" the backup is 1.5m.

My next strategy is to go into my old computer and edit folders or do a few partial backups so I get a small enough file(s) to attach to email.

Any other suggestions ...

A:Can NOT import contacts from Outlook to Windows Live Mail !

Forget even trying that. The closest you could import if possible would be from Vista's version of Windows Mail not from Outlook or Outlook Express. In WLM you simply have to manually add most of your usual contacts in or use the add name to contacts list when going to send the first mail out to someone. That can save time if you have a good number on the list.

Hi, I am looking for a macro to import contacts from excel. We are a team of 25 who all use the same contact list (which contains addresses, organisation name, tel numbers, emails, contact names etc for approx 600 organisations). We regularly have to bcc all these contacts in emails. We previously all held the distribution lists (sorted alphabetically by email) and had to let the rest of the team know when details changed. The problem with this was that the distribution lists do not hold all the information needed (e.g. addresses, organisation names) and contact information was not always updated as it should have been. I would like to create the macro for all the team so that they can periodicaly update their contacts. I trust this makes sense

I have been scratching my head and searching everywhere, but I seem to have only questions and no answers to this one. I have a business where I keep all my clients in an Access 2013 database. The tables and queries include all contact information, and I also enter dates when I have had appointments with each client along with details of our sessions. Each week (or whenever I get around to it) I must do several things:
update all contact info in Access and export the data to a folder in my Outlook Contacts
enter dates from my Outlook Calendar into the Services table (via a form) and fill in details
export updated Contacts from Access to Excel to upload into my Enewsletter program to email newsletters to clients
make sure my Outlook contact info is syncing correctly with my Samsung Galaxy (I use gsyncit, the best app I've found for this)
refer to my contacts on the phone to get addresses as I am on my way to each client's house or business

Quite a pain, right? If only I could set up a system where any new changes to contact info made EITHER from Outlook OR from Access automatically synchronize AND the address info is included in my Outlook Calendar entry for the person AND a service entry is entered in my Access database for that call, wouldn't my life be easier?! I downloaded and ran AVG PC Tuneup and it cleaned up (by deleting) about 11,000 windows files and other files, as well as 'cleaned' registry keys, etc. Their customer support has been pretty useless and my laptop running win 7 has so many issues that I plan on doing a restore to the original image delivered 2 years ago. Windows backup shows my last backup as Sept 2013 - though I thought it was supposed to back things up weekly.

That being said, in Outlook 2010 (which I have the CD for) I have 3 mail accounts with lots of emails and contacts, as well as Calendar events that I would like to export and then import into a clean version of Outlook. (Note that the contacts may also be part of groups, etc. that I would like to keep intact). I have seen online info about exporting and creating a pst file for emails, but it seems that contacts and the calendar might be separate. I just want three files that will pull back my original folders, the emails in the folders, my calendar, the contacts for those accounts (separated contacts for each email accnt and any groups that they might be in), etc. Is there one function that will do this? Is this just a simple export to a pst or ??? I don't want to lose any data so want to do it right the first time.

Any input as to how I would do this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello all:

I searched on your forum here and did not find the answer to the problem (indeed, I didn't see anyone else having it!) so I thought I'd ask to see if you've heard of anything like this. I would appreciate greatly any response and I apologize if this is something that has already been posted.

Hi everyone!

What is the best way to sync my emails, contacts, and calendar with my Outlook 2010 (win7 pc), iPhone, and iPad2?

Basically, I want to send/receive emails to all devices, and update my calendar and contacts on my Outlook, and then have my iOS devices update automatically be synced with my Outlook contacts and calendar, and vice versa.

I've used Microsoft Exchange in the past to do this, but it seems like over kill... and it's a little overcomplicated for me. I was hoping I could just do all this with Gmail, but it seems that I need MS Exchange to do it that way too.

Any help and advice is very appreciated!!!

A:no emails or contacts have been restored!

Hello Steve and welcome to the forums

I don't think that Windows Mail data is included in standard backups. I use Outlook and I have to manually specify Windows to backup the data files, it does not do it by default.

Unless you have changed it, Windows Mail data files are stored in the following folder:

C:\Users\[username]/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows Mail

If you restore your backup to a folder, then you could try navigating to the above directory.

I'm sorry to say that I don't think you'll be able to get these details back There is a chance, but if I'm going to tell it how it is, the chance is very small.

Only the new empty versions will show up in the folders list of OE6. Checking the Store Folder, the old folders are there as .dbx files, with full contents based on the file size. I tried:

1) Importing folders using the Import feature on OE6. Useless.
2) Copying all old folders into the store folder, including overwriting the existing Inbox and Sent Items. OE6 could see all imported folders but these two.
3) Renaming the old folders before copying them into the Store Folder, so as not to overwrite the existing empty Inbox. OE6 could see all imported folders but these two.
4) Repeating step 3, above, but also changing the imported folders.dbx file suffix by adding .old. OE6 could see all imported folders but these two.
5) Creating Restored Inbox, etc in OE6, renaming the old backup folders to match, then overwriting the "restored" folders in the Store Folder. Restored folders contain no files in OE6, though the files in the Store Folder contain data.
6) DBXtract from copy of old folder (no .eml files created)

My company's inbox size limitations are quite small, so I have created an arhive

What I want to know is if there is a way to rig up outlook so that:

1. All items received come into the main inbox, but also he inbox in the archive.

2. All items sent go into the main sent box, as well as the sent box in the archive

The sent option isn't as big a deal as the inbox, just figured I'd ask, knowing full well the process is probably the same for each anyway.

Not by default. Set up a rule to accomplish what you want to do. Kind of defeats the purpose of an archive folder if you are going to throw every incoming email n there.

Hello, So hoping I can get this resolved. I've spent days reading on here and haven't had any luck. Here's the problem. I have Windows XP. I guess since I purchased my computer in 03 I have OE3 (I know it's a dinosaur but need to get these emails before I buy my new computer). Out of nowhere all of my emails in my inbox were gone. I finally found them. I put them in a file on my desktop. I have many sub folders...Bill emails, saved emails, etc. They are all dbx files. I can't open any of them. I read stuff about inbox.bak but I don't see that anywhere. Under properties I found the location of each sub file. I then tried to import, but I received a message that OE was open. So, they wouldn't import. I'm not the best at following computer commands but can do okay. So, how can I import and be able to read these messages. I want to save some and delete a lot, but need to read them first. Help!

Woops sorry double post, not sure how I did that.

Hello,
I have a dead laptop, MB failed and the user doesn't want to fix it. He does, however want his email contacts back. He used Windows mail (Vista home) on the laptop before its demise and is using Outlook 2007 WWindows 7) on his new laptop. The data is still intact on the hdd of the old laptop, the contacts folder is on a flash drive. I don't have his new laptop in my posession but I would think that I should be able to import his contacts from the flash drive into my bench computer's (XP Pro) Outlook 2007 as a test, then do the same with his computer when the process has been proven.

Thanh you in advance

When I sign in to Yahoo from
https://login.yahoo.com/?.done=http://calendar.yahoo.com/&rl=1
I enter my email address and password.
This opens the Yahoo Calendar, which I don't use.
I want it to default to the Inbox.
I have chosen options when in the Calendar, but they are not relevant.
I chose Options when viewing the Inbox and selected Behavior / Inbox = Show on Startup.
but it still starts on the calendar.
Is there a way to go directly from sign-in to Inbox?
Thank you.

A:Solved: Default to Yahoo Inbox not Calendar

I kept at it and finally saw there is a different hot spot that takes me to:
https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?.intl=us&.src=ym
When I login from there, I go directly to my inbox.

Am using OUtlook 2003 and wondered whether there is a way to simultaneously view the Calendar and Contacts folders on one screen. Thanks.

A:Outlook: Simultaneous View of "Calendar" & "Contacts"

Maybe someone else has a better idea, but you could open two instances of Outlook and size the screens so that you could view both windows next to each other.

Can't import an ics file to google calendar using IE9 in win7 but it will import fine using Firefox. The file comes from Lightning and is fairly small.

I get no errors. A popup rectangle comes up with "Import calendar" in it and it basically just hangs doing nothing. Clicking the X in that popup clears it so the system is still running.

While I have the file imported now, I am wondering what might be the problem with my IE9 installation.

Any ideas??

I accidentally deleted my Windows Live Mail contact list while coping and transferring it to another PC. That works fine.

I keep my contact list backed up in .VCF format and have Imported from my backup before.

But now, when I try to Import the (entire) contact list at once, (as I've done before), it imports VERY slowly, and after each contact slowly comes into the list,

I get a message " you already have this contact, do you want to over-write it?" (There are ZERO contacts there now??)

It would take days to import my contact list at this pace.

I have Win7 Pro, 64 bit.

Any ideas as to what is causing this?

Thanks in advance........................

Your Live Mail contacts list along with emails are stored on Microsoft Servers.

When you install Live Mail onto a fresh OS installation and set up the Live email account(s), all is downloaded and populates the the new Live mail installation.

What's the bes way to import Outlook Express 6.0's address book with keeping the structure/category.

5 folders with contacts in each folder

A:How to Import O.E. 6.0 contacts + structure

First things first, you probably need to export your OE address book.
1. Click File/Export/Address Book
2. Click Text File (Comma Separated Values), and then click Export.
3. Locate the Mail Backup folder that you created (or a 3.5 floppy if moving to another computer)
4. In the File Name box, type "address book backup" (without the quote marks) and click Save.
5. Click Next
6. Click to select the check boxes for the fields that you want to export, and then click Finish.
7. click OK and then click Close.

Now open OE at the location where you want to import the address book, click on File/Import and locate the backup file that you just created. The rest is automatic.

Hope this helps!

I am trying to find out how it works to move from one email account to another. I know that hotmail charges a small fee to import things into an account. Seems like you can transfer contacts over to most email servers, but not inbox, sent messages won't transfer. I think Gmail is the one email server that let's you transfer all of your information from other accounts. What's the best and easiest strategy's for going from Outlook-Hotmail, Outlook to exclusively Comcast (accessing account through web browser), Comcast to Hotmail, Hotmailo to gmail etc. Is there some good articles or instructional information on how to do this. Hope my post makes sense and really appreciate any feedback on this topic.

I've read the excellent tutorial on getting Windows Vista Calendar into Windows 7. Only problem is that despite having eight original copies of Windows Vista, none of them at 64-bit, as is my Windows 7 install.

As a Vista owner, is there a legal way to get a free copy of Vista 64-bit? Failing that, is there a safe way to get the required files?

Further to the above, I notice that there is a Microsoft update that includes WinCal.exe [clicky] is there any way to extract the required files from the .MSU?

A:Windows Calendar Import: source of WinCal64

Create a folder that is named C:\MSUFolder, and then save the MSU file to this folder.

Now you can use these 2 commands from MS-DOS prompt to extract all contents:

expand -F:* <Saved_MSU_File_Name.msu> c:\MSUFolder

expand -F:* <Saved_MSU_File_Name.cab> c:\MSUFolder

I've been using Windows Live Mail for some time now but have never really liked it and thought I'd try Thunderbird. The installation went OK until I tried to import my contacts. WLM wasn't listed in the email programs so I had to 'browse'. Found my contact csv in My docs but got the message that there was no folder. There is - in fact there are two copies of my contacts each with a different title.

Can anyone please tell me in simple terms how to import contacts from WLM or export to Thunderbird? It will be a laborious process if I have to enter each address manually.

Thank you
