Visiting youtube causes computer to freeze completely

Q: Visiting youtube causes computer to freeze completely

Over the last few days, any time I try to visit youtube my computer completely freezes.  The mouse doesn't move, I can't push ctrl+alt+del, nothing at all works.  The screen just freezes while the page is loading.  The computer doesn't seem to be busy working when it freezes.  It seems to just stop completely.  I do not have this problem with any other websites.  I have scanned for viruses with Spybot and Malwarebytes.  I downloaded Ccleaner and used that too, as I thought it might be some sort of registry error.  No issues have been found.  There are no other sypmtoms of problems with the computer.  It is not running slowly.  Everything seems normal except for youtube.

I am using Firefox 20.0..1  There are no strange add ons or toolbars that I use.  I use Windows 7.  Any ideas what might be causing the problem?

A: Visiting youtube causes computer to freeze completely

I did a little more experimenting, and discovered that the problem only seems to be when using firefox.  Chrome and Internet explorer load the page.  I did, however notice that the Samsung ad at the top of youtube had an error loading.  The problem with Firefox seems to occur at the moment the Samsung ad finishes loading.  Perhaps it is related specifically to that.

My laptop will freeze whenever I watch YouTube videos. Here's what happens a few minutes into random videos:

1. Everything on screen freezes including mouse and keyboard inputs.
2. YouTube video has stopped but sound continues to play (but it is very slow)
3. Roughly 30 seconds later everything will unfreeze until I watch another video.

Please help.

A:Computer will freeze with YouTube

Blow out all fans with compressed air. Make sure there is ventilation to the bottom of the computer.
Go to Start in Search type chkdsk C: /R and hit enter. Now type a Y and reboot the computer. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors. When you reboot, when you start to play a YouTube video right click the Task Bar and start the Task Manager/Performance tab. Check the CPU and Memory usage when video is playing.

When I download using Napster or ITunes, my computer will freeze up completely and i will have to manual turn it off using the power. I used to get a blue screen but that stopped. I have noticed that when i open up more ram, I freeze less but still many times my computer freezes even when I am running nothing else. Is there a way to fix this?

A:Youtube videos freeze all the time only on my computer

Can you post some information about your computer by going to this internal link [http://library.techguy.org/wiki/TSG_Valuable_links] and downloading the 'TSG System Information Utility'. This will only gather basic information on the computer such as the processor, RAM, harddrive capacity and just copy/paste it in your next reply.

Also when you say 'freeze', does the video load then all the sudden the picture freezes while the audio is still on or does the video all freeze all together (both audio and moving images)?

Its a rare pheonomen. I dont get it, it just happened randomly and has now been going on for 2 days and im frustrated as hell.

Okay, let me explain what it is: For some reason every time I surf the internet or just hang around in my PC long enough it freezes up soo bad nothing but holding down the power button unfreezes it( ctrl+alt+delete wont work) and I can clearly see from the win 7 gadget how my memory is just fine, but how my processor is slacking with 01-00% and wont even try to unfreeze it. I think ive timed it to 2-3 min after ive started my PC. It happens quite fast when I do stuff like go to youtube or open pages that have alot of media in em. Made me think this is a hardware problem....

But here is the wierd part.....when I startup a high spec videogame in those 2-3 min before startup....I can play it for like 4 hours till I get bored and shut it down. But when i exit it freezes up again. And in safe mode everything works fine, no crashes at all and I can surf around just fine.

So ive done stuff like, checked and messed around with the hardware to make sure everything is connected and isnt too dusty, did virusscan and did systemrestore and still nothin. So if anybody can help me solve it or even give me a clue what is going on here, id be really greatful, thx in advance!

Hello anyone who gets this message!

I was recently trying to watch a video and it would stay on 1% buffer. I left it at this and watched a youtube video in the mean time perfectly, then suddenly the other video started fully buffered. I tested many times and basically all videos except youtube videos must load completely after hitting the 'play' button before actually starting where as youtube downloads and plays simultaneously

Thanks guys!

I've been having this issue for a while but it hasn't done it for a couple of months. When i'm on a game or doing anything on my pc really, it will randomly freeze up and the last sound note will play over and over. One of the times it happened I recorded the screen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5ksb6mukBM&feature=player_embedded when this happens everything becomes unresponsive and I'm forced to turn it off at the back. I've tried everything to solve this issue and nothing has worked. Would appreciate any help. thanks

Hi all. Ive been battling this issue for a few days now. whenever i visit sites such as myspace or espn.com, when im either searching around on the sites my computer will lock up. i can hear it processing information as if it were getting sent massive amounts of information, yet when i check the sites on another computer in my house i dont have these issues. i tried disabling javascript and it worked for part of the problem, but when i started to search the website further, i encountered the issue again. This occurs with both internet explorer and firefox, and my flashplayer and windows media player are both updated. ive searched my computer with spybot and adaware.

A:Computer locking up when visiting certain sites

Try reseting you security permissions. Goto tool > internet options > security tab. Click on default level, then set it to low hit apply, then move it right back to medium and hit apply. This will put it back to microsoft recommended settings. let us know if that works.

took over the screen and says my computer is at risk and it gives me two options

continue unprotected or get security software

i am running avg for firwall spyware and antivirus. this doesnt only happen with only craigslist it happens with almost every website i go to. not every time either but 50% of the time.

if i click continue unprotected it goes back to the website i was previously at but then pops up again. so i tried to click get security software and it takes me to a website to purchase antivir antivirus (http://malwareweblist.com/1/?id=2036-2)

so i belive this is a virus or somthing so if anyone can help me with this problem would be great thank you

Hi all,

First post bc I can't find a good answer to this question anywhere.

I play guitar and as such, I frequently visit www.ultimate-guitar.com. For the past few months, whenever I visit the site, there is a good chance of my computer spontaneously just shutting down. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens a good portion of the time that I go to the site, and it only ever happens on that site.

I'm currently running 64-bit Vista Home Premium. This happens on both Chrome and Firefox.

So today I logged on to wikipedia only to see the sopa blackout message. within two minutes my firewalls detected numerous incoming and outgoing connections. then my desktop froze followed by all commands. I then turned my computer off. waited. then turned it back on. after going to the black xp screen it reboots to the "we apologize for the inconveinice but windows.." last known config-reboots to the we apologize screen. start normal-same thing. safe mode works. I ran malwarebytes in safe mode and it found the following threats:
trojan.winlock
pup.removeWGA
exploit.drop.7

after scan and necessary reboot, my computer gets caught in the restart loop with no way to start windows except choosing safemode or safemode with networking. and the threats keep reappearing. they will not go away!

I tested the SAME video on Google Chrome, and it does NOT freeze. On IE, I deleted complete history, did a restore and restarted and same issue, still freezes.

any other ideas??

A:Youtube Freeze on IE, not Chrome

What version of IE are you using?

What addons do you have running in Internet Explorer, maybe try disabling them and try again.
It may also be worth updating Adobe Flash if it's not already up-to-date as Chrome and IE use different instances/versions of Flash.

Recently while trying to watch a youtube video, after the add plays perfectly, all of chrome freezes up for about 15 or so seconds while the video initially buffers. Once it starts playing, it does this again while trying to do things like change the resolution and works intermittently overall. I have only come across this problem when on youtube. Previously I have had no problems with this at all. It is possible it has something to do with the Kaspersky antivirus software that was just installed. A possible solution that I have come across is to change the security setting "buffering scan" to "streaming scan", but I have not found the option to change this on my version of the software, which I believe is the newest.

A:Chrome youtube freeze

Hello Chingalling,

If the problem started immediately after the installation of Kaspersky Antivirus, then yes, it is likely that is the issue. You could try temporarily disabling this program to see if it rectified the issues.

I want to emphasize the word "temporarily" - only view one, trusted video on Youtube to see if the problem is solved. After you've tested this, turn your antivirus program back on.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next, try watching it in Safe Mode With Networking:

How to Access Safe Mode With Networking

While the computer is turning on, tap F8 repeatedly until a black screen with white text appears. Using your arrow keys highlight the option Safe Mode With Networking and hit Enter.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lastly, please download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe).

After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.

Information about your computer will appear.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire text here.

Hi everyone

I feel like an *** coming here with first post and asking such a question, but I have tried asking such things to many people on the internet at places I usally post at. Upon my searching for a solution to my problem I found that this website seems alot better than everywhere else for people who seem to really know stuff about computers to an extreme level.

So anyway...

As my title says games freeze on my PC or more often than not they will freeze and my computer will stay frozen and it won't recover. I just get like a screenshot plus garbled sound.

There are lots of things I have tried to solve this plus extra info:

Ran RAM sticks on their own
Both RAM sticks together passed memtest 9 times in a row
Used 2 different motherboards
Used different graphics cards
Used an IDE and SATA HDs on their own as main installation
Uninstalled, physically disconnected and disabled via device manager my DVD/CD drives
Ran without case fans
Used a different PSU
Setup my PC with my SATA HD running in IDE mode and also tried with AHCI mode.
Disabled all downclocking/voltage reduction settings in BIOS.
BIOS reads all voltages as "OK" (Gigabyte board)

My laptop was receiving the irql not less or equal BSOD and I think I was able to find the problem, it was a corrupted wifi driver. As of now it is not crashing anymore, but now, when I am just using it normally, such as on Google Chrome, I will be using it for a while and then all of a sudden I will notice that my keyboard stops working. This is followed by me being able to use my touchpad but I can't click on anything and then finally the touchpad completely freezes and all that I see is my frozen screen. I am really not sure why this is happening because I just re-installed Windows 7 on it and all the drivers are up to date.

My specs are as follows:
Asus UL30A laptop
Windows 7 Pro 32-bit
60GB OCZ Vertex SSD
3GB RAM

I've recently had an issue with my computer where, after only a short 5-10 minute period of being logged in, my Windows will freeze piece by piece. Usually the internet browser goes first, and when I try to click another program on the toolbar, the toolbar freezes. Pressing ALT + Tab doesn't allow me to scroll open programs at this point either. Task manager will not open once this process begins. I've scanned with AVG Free and MalwareByte, but nothing shows up (both are updated to the most recent version). If you think you could help me out it'd be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Flanzo

I downloaded a re-direct anti-virus program.
I was able to kill it with RKill, but there are still some lingering issues going on.
When I try to connect to the internet via Google.com I get this message "Internet Explorer Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!"
I have run Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials.
They have removed numerous Trojans etc, but I still get the Internet Explorer Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!
When I tried running HIJackThis, I get a message "For some reason system denied write access to the Hosts file...."

Any clue how bad it really is?

Thanks,

I have an infected laptop running XP Pro SP3. It had Spyware Protect 2009 on it but I was able to stop the sysguard.exe process and delete sysguard.exe from the Windows subdirectory and from the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\....\Run registry hive. There is still at least one other major problem. IE 7 is redirected to display "internet explorer warning visiting this web site may harm your computer" most of the time. I can get to google sometimes and even search something but when I try to follow a link - I get the redirection message. It also prevents me from running a system restore and most of the scanning software such as malwarebytes, SDfix and several others. I was able to run HijackThis but when I tried to post the report, it redirected me again so I saved the log file to a thumbdrive and logged onto an uninfected computer to post this.

I'm attaching the log file.

So I just got a new computer running Win 7. I use Chrome as my primary browser and I've noticed a strange little bug with Flash content.

Basically whenever I switch tabs from something with Flash content (eg. YouTube video) to something else then back again, the area where the Flash content is becomes an image of whatever tab I was viewing before.

I can hear the video playing but the image is just like a screen capture of the tab I was viewing before. Here's a screenshot to illustrate my point.

As you can see I'm viewing a YouTube video, but the area where the content is supposed to be is instead a portion of Reddit, which was on another tab I was viewing while waiting for the video to load.

Currently, I'm able to fix this problem by tabbing to another page with Flash content, then tabbing back. But sometimes it doesn't seem to work and the Flash content is just stuck.

I've tried disabling and updating Flash but Chrome says I already have the latest version.

Anyone have any ideas?

A:YouTube and other Flash elements freeze after tabbing

I don't what to tell you, except maybe only open Flash content in it's own windows instead of a tab. But I think Flash is broken because I have been having all kinds of Flash playback issues in all browsers and OSes.

Hi,

The problem is definitely involving this USB device driver, so you should update it from the manufacturer's website. If there is no update, you can't use the modem with Windows 8 and remain stable. You'll have to find some new hardware instead.

Hello all. I'm at my wits end with this problem. I really hope some one can help.

About 3 weeks ago this problem developed. When watching a video on YouTube it will stop loading and the video will freeze with the circluar 'buffering symbol'. I can see the gray progress bar stop at the bottom of the video. Sometimes this will happen after as long as 5-10 mins and sometimes after 5 seconds. Refreshing the page does not seem to help as the video will stop in the same place. BBC iPlayer seems to work fine though. I also have a good internet speed. Running multiple speed tests I get about 7.7 mbs.

Now here are the things I've tried to fix the problem:

Tried on multiple computers including a Mac running Snow Leopard. Still the same problem.
Tried multiple browsers (FireFox, Palemoon, IE9 and Chrome).
Updated Flash to latest version.
Cleared internet cache and removed cookies.
Reset router.
Played with router settings - Wireless channel, turned off firewall and even a hard
reset.
Connected with cable directly to router and disabling wireless function.
Tried a completely different router.
Tried swapping internet/phone line filter.
Called my ISP and they say they aren't shaping/filtering network traffic and say I have a good network connection with about 7mbs line although there are a few 'faults on the line' but they shouldn't affect the connection speed.

Does anyone have any ideas? I really don't know what to do other than change I... Read more

A:YouTube videos stop buffering/freeze!

Running multiple speed tests I get about 7.7 mbs.Hi Sparky -I have just run SpeedTest on my system and I get just over 14 Mbps, but there are still a few times I suffer from buffering / stalling -My Internet Provider has just given me a new router and upped my speed plan but this is still the best I can get To fully remove the "buffering" you will need a speed over 15 Mbps on average (many here can get up to 40 or 50 Mbps downloads) A New "Good" router is the first thing that you need, followed by (I hate to say) upgrading your internet plan (or provider)Regards - Extra -Download TFC Cleaner to your desktop and run it from there -Double click on the icon (Black Garbage can) > click Start > This will shut down any open programs, so please make sure all is saved> Always Reboot after you run this tool to be sure it has completed its job -TFC only cleans temp folders. TFC will not clean URL history, prefetch, or cookies. Depending on how often someone cleans their temp folders, their system hardware, and how many accounts are present, it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or more. TFC will completely clear all temp files where other temp file cleaners may fail. TFC requires a reboot immediately after running.

Chrome has been my default browser.
I decided to eliminate my Google + account, because I do not like any site to accumulate information about my internet use. I do a lot of political surfing, and my politics is my own business.
Since then, I find youtube.com freezes when I try to use the "Guide" panel, items such as "watch later", "history", etc.
I would conclude that is the result of ending my Google + account, except for the fact that when I am in my administrator profile, I do not have the problem. Also, I do not have the problem in the standard profile if I use Internet Explorer to access youtube.com.
Could someone solve this mystery? I would be grateful for the answer!

A:Solved: Chrome youtube freeze user-profile

On thinking about the problem I posed above, I wonder if removing Google + removed it only from my standard-user profile! That would explain why have no problem with youtube.com in my admin-profile. Chrome might channel everything through Google + in order to keep track of my browsing, which I feel is not their business. Other profiles on my computer may be independent entities to Chrome and Google +. If that is so, I had better delete Google + in my admin-profile. Any thoughts?

Hi,

Is there a way to troubleshoot this issue?

I don't see anything in the Windows Logs to indicate an error or warning.

Regards

A:IE 10 - YouTube Videos Freeze or No Audio on Bluetooth Headset

It sounds like you have 2 different issues, are they related? Be aware Youtube has an issue now where the videos start muted. The speaker icon on the player will have an X next to it. You have to click on the speaker and turn up the volume slider. It usually works until you close that browser.

Google Groups

For the freezing issue, are you on the latest version of Flash? Or have you recently changed the Flash version? Any software or hardware changes that might explain the issue? If you know when the problem started, you might try a System restore point from before it began.

You might try turning off Hardware acceleration and see what effect that has on the freezes

My granddaughter received Sims 2 for Christmas. It wouldn't load on their old desktop so my son-in-law went out and bought a new computer. It is a Windows 7 Home Premium, AMD Athlon IIX4 620 Processor 2.60 GHz, 6 GB RAM, 64 bit. Sims 2 ran on it fine.

She then purchased Sims 2 Pets and Sims 2 Best of Business Collection. They both said they had installed, but when we try to run them, they start to load, but freeze after loading part way. Can you give us any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Thanks for any help.

A:Solved: Sims 2 Pets & Best of Business Collection freeze before loading completely

Another person on this forum has the same problem. They finally decided to use the business collection CD to start the game and it worked. I have all the original expansions and stuff packs for Sims 2 and I found when reloading the game that they really needed to be installed in sequence due to patches. I had to load the Holiday Stuff Pack before Pets or I would get an error message saying it could not "Back Update". I don't have the new "Collection" CDs but I'm wondering if this is not the same problem (sorry different issue altogether).

Anyway, try using the Business Collection CD to start the game instead of Pets. Hope this helps.

Hey guys, I've had this really persistent "freezing" problem with my PC from 'June 2012', now I've tried to solve it to the best of my knowledge regarding these issues but it just won't go away.

So what happens is: my PC freezes randomly for no reason while I'm watching youtube videos or playing DOTA 2. It doesn't occur all the time and I can't replicate the freeze because of that... but here's what happens:

1. PC freezes randomly, at DOTA 2 loading screen. It's right after all the players have accepted to play in the found match (find match process) and the game takes us to the loading screen (loading resources and stuff I presume) now this is where my PC freezes. It's happened many times from June and sometimes it's happened as much as 3 times in a row and sometimes it doesn't happen at all for quite a few matches.

2. Rare PC freeze after DOTA 2 match is either won or lost and the game is about to show the players the score screen. This happens occasionally and is very much the same freeze as the loading screen one.

3. Freeze while watching Youtube videos, no specific types of videos (eg: captions, HD, 240p) but it happens just as much as the freezes that occur during the DOTA 2 loading screen.

*Note - After the freeze everything inside my cabinet from the PSU to CPU seems to be working/running/ON just as if it were doing so normally and I have to reset my PC manually at which point it completely powers down for a few seconds and then resta... Read more

Description:

if a program i run is freezing, the whole computer freezes to the point where i can't input anything except Alt-Control-Delete but if i chose "Task Manager" it does not open on the front, but i can see it on the taskbar, i can even see the vista sidebar ticking but i cannot contol anything that happens.

it only happens when a program enters an infinite loop (or becoming idle any other way)...
when i program, and my program freezes, i have to restart the computer (sometimes clicking log-off on the Alt-Control-Delete works, but sometimes it doesn't)
since i like to program, i can't restart the computer every time my program freezes, and it is a huge hassle to restart the pc every time my computer freezes

i already tried fixing the registry with tuneup registry scanner and i thought about system restore but it turns out i don't have any system restore points

Hey all,

I was unable to get GMER to run the full scan without an error popping up halfway saying that the .exe has stopped working. I tried it twice and lost patience so I will try again later and try to make it work. For now I'm just putting this post up there to at least get something by the end of today hopefully, so I just want to point out first that my GMER log is not included. Sorry about it! If the GMER log is absolutely necessary along with Hijack and DDS logs for you guys to diagnose what is wrong with my computer, do let me know. Also, if you guys could, any advice on how to get GMER working would be appreciated. I was unclear through the instructions if I should uncheck the IAT/EAT box and check the C: drive box (the GMER tool did not warn me about rootkit activity, but I went ahead and unchecked IAT/EAT and checked C: drive anyway, assuming that the drive that is most important to scan would be C: drive).

OK, I hope you guys can help me out here.

My pc caught a few viruses about 3 weeks ago, and I done a really bad job of getting rid of them. After a while my pc suddenely just locked up, and crashed to a blue screen full text, saying something like "windows had to shut down the computer to prevent further damage"

I turned it off and turned it back on, but when it got to the windows loading screen it changed back to the same blue screen, this time It read the same but also said "Unmountable boot volume"

It stayed like this for a while and it wouldn't get past this error, so I eventually decided to try and re format the pc.

I loaded my Windows XP cd into my drive, and booted it, I get to the screen asking me if I want to repair or continue a fresh install. I choose the fresh install option in hope of deleting all files on my hard drive and installing a fresh copy of windows on it.

But it then comes up with the error "Could not find Windows XP disk"

After that I tried again, this time choosing the option from the cd to "repair" and it took me to the recovery console. I typed in the command CHKDSK /R, but it came up with the an error reading something like this:
"Cannot complete function, hard drive is damaged and unrecoverable"

(BY the way, all the quotes and error messages i've typed above aren't 100% accurate as I'm typing them from memory but they're all similar

So I can't load up my pc, I can... Read more

Well the first thing to check would be your BIOS. Your harddrive should show up first in the POST (Power On Self Test) with the model #.

If you enter the BIOS (Basic Input Output System), usually by pressing delete during the POST, it should have more detailed information about your harddrive.

If your harddrive is not showing up in the POST or BIOS, I would first recommend checking all the cable connections to the harddrive. The cables you would be looking for are the ribbon cable and the power cable.

Check that and post back, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask before digging around inside your PC.

Okay, my girlfriend is 100% locked out of her computer where she is running Vista Home edition (premium or basic or 32/64 bit I don't know off the top of my head). After boot up and it comes to the Window user account log-in screen, she types in her password as normal, but it's not working. It just says incorrect password...... We KNOW the password is correct (this just started out of the blue), NO one has access to her computer to change or edit the password either, and the reset password link (below the input box) just simply doesn't work. Her account is the only account on the computer and is considered the "Administrator" also. My friend gave me a computer the other day. It's an old Compaq; it's a piece of crap.
Has the smallest hard drive I've seen...what like 16 GB? Anyways...
It's still useful to me. I have a computer that everyone in my house uses, but it'd be nice just to have one to do work on. So here I am, stuck with a dillema.

The computer is obvioulsy used, so it has tons of random crap on it. I want to just erase everything and reset it back to the way it was when first bought. However, the computer was upgraded to Windows XP a few years ago, and obviously it doesn't have restore points going back to when it was purchased.

I've looked at programs that erase the entire hard drvie, but I need to keep the OS because I don't have a Windows XP install disc.

Help?

A:Completely Erase Computer !

Hello and welcome.
If you don't have the XP disk and don't plan on purchasing a new one then your options are limited. First use system restore and return the OS back to the first day the OS was installed. Then go to Add/remove programs and remove all of the stuff you don't want.. then delete all temp files and defragment... If then you want to erase/shred the unused disk space on your hard drive here is a free utility that will do that...
http://www.download.com/Eraser/3000-2092_4-10231813.html
that's about all you can do if you plan on keeping the XP that is installed.

Hi all,

Just recieved a new computer today but there seems to be a loading issue and I figured this would be the best place to ask.

I set everything up correctly and turned the system on just about an hour ago and it seemed to boot just fine recognizing all of the connections and loading past the Windows XP screen with the scroll bar; however right after that I'm taken to another XP screen that says "please wait" instead of the desktop/user panel/introduction screen. I waited for 20 minutes initially but there wasn't any change so I reset and tried again; waiting 15 minutes this time but still no change after that screen. I figured it may be a peripheral device so I disconnected the mouse and the keyboard reset and tried again. Same problem this time around as well; this time I let it sit for at least 30 minutes and it's still at the same screen as I'm typing this on another PC.

I don't know if this is a hardware issue or a problem with XP so if anyone's familiar with this I could really use some help.

A:New computer, not loading completely...?

Is it a clean install of windows?

I got this computer about a year ago, and I got some viruses just recently and need to rid my computer of their vile ways...
I got my computer custom made so when they gave it to me they had already installed XP on it. I tried reinstalling XP by putting the disc in and uninstalling it that way but it didn't give me the option, I installed XP anyway. Now I am afraid that I have two XP's on top of each other and have no idea of how to get rid of both of them AND I now have viruses so it ain't goin to great.
My computer has been slowed down a fair amount, but the essentials are still working fine, thankfully.
Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Thankyou!

Several weeks ago I had my computer "scrubbed" by a local outfit to remove a persistent virus. They reinstalled Win 7 and I reinstalled my information and programs. Since then, when I use the "Shut Down" button in the Start Menu to turn off the computer the screen goes blank but a "whooshing" sound , like a fan running at high speed or a hard drive really spinning continues until I press and hold the Start button for several seconds.
Any idea what's preventing the machine from completely shutting down?

I was trying to fix my CD/Dvd drive and changed something the System registry and i am unable to use mouse and keyboard. I cant use system restore either as im unable to control mouse and keyboard.

It loads everything up, its just that i cant do anything, i have no control of the computer.

However i'm getting a new harddrive soon and was wondering if its possible just to install windows on that harddrive and have this current messed up harddrive as a 2nd partitition.

Does system registry affect the whole computer or just windows?

Thanks,

A:Help, please before my computer stops completely!

Hi kcastro -

Please turn off the CAPS. It's kinda hard to read, and is considered yelling in forums, and bad form.

The HJT log is saved as hijackthis.log in the folder where you have the HJT.exe located. If you can't find it, do this:

Double click on HijackThis.exe to run the program.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Post the hijackthis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Generally, the log is saved and opened at the same time. All you have to do then is copy and paste the entire contents into a reply in this thread. Click in the field of the HijackThis Notepad text file Press Ctrl + A on your keyboard, Press Ctrl + C next. Open a reply window here. Click once in the reply field. Press Ctrl + V , your log should now be in the reply window.

This hijacking you have is relatively easy to handle, so remain calm. We can get you fixed up.

Sometimes, out of the blue while playing a game, my computer decides to completly freeze on me. My music stops playing, everything is froze, even my mouse won't move. I have a fairly new computer, about 6 months old, and wondering why it would be doing this. The only game it seems to do it in is flash based, so I was thinking that might be the problem.

Could the problem be that I got a different kind of RAM then what came with the computer? It's an Alienware computer, so if there is a problem in the hardware side I would hope this could be the only thing wrong with it.

So, what other info do you guys need to see, I am completly stumped as to how to fix this problem.

A:Computer Freezes Completely

Hi,

You reallly need to list your specs including motherboard, cpu, video card, brand name and wattage of your power supply, drives....etc. etc. etc....you get the picture.

In the meantime, I would suggest that you monitor and list your temps for at-rest and under-stress usage. Another crucial area is that you need to check your voltages for this computer. Most modern day motherboards (since we don't know what you have, can't tell) have a program that will tell these readings. However, if yours does not, here are a couple of free programs that will help.

Sandra Lite Utility

or

Speedfan will tell you the temperatures and a whole lot more. It's free

or

http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

This information should help us to pinpoint possible causes of your problem.

There appears to be no electricity getting to the computer. It is completely dead. It's a Gateway about 4-5 years old. We have tried all the obvious things like changing cords and outlets. The cover is off. No apparent damage. Nothing seems to be loose.

Any suggestions on what hardware may have gone bad? Power supply?

A:Computer completely dead.

Yes! of course a power supply problem. Here's a step by step procedure in diagnosing this problem:

1. Turn on your computer. (ok I know it wont turn on but just turn the power on), check at the back of your cpu. is the power supply fan spinning? If not, then you'll have to throw away that power suppy & start buying a new one.

2. If the fan is spinning but the computer is still 'dead', open the cover & check whether all the power connectors is connected properly. Usually, they're 2 'female' power connectors that must have to be connected to the motherboard (1 is the biggest connector of your power supply & the other is a 2x2 hole connector (a square-shaped one). Try searching for a 'male' socket on your motherboard for these 'female' connectors. Maybe you forgot to connect one.

3. If the fan is spinning & you're extremely sure that you connected all connectors properly but the CPU still dead, Then check your RAM whether it is pushed/plugged properly onto the socket. You can try taking off the RAM from it & re-seat it again & then turn on your computer. Again, make sure it is properly pushed/plugged.

4. If still cannot, try you borrow a RAM from your friends (make sure you borrow a correct type of RAM and it's working well. Then fit the RAM onto your motherboard & try turn on again.

5. If still cannot on, ermm.. I don't know what's next. Maybe your processor??? ... Read more

im trying to bring back an old computer i have. Pretty much, it tries to start up, but can't. It has a 20 gig hard drive, but it is so corrupted by a virus that it barely sees the drive, and cannot start up. I have a second 5 gig hard drive, and it works fine on any other computer, but this one doesnt seem to like it, and wont install or wipe it. The first hard drive has a corrupted windows XP on it, but i would like to wipe the drive completely, reset memory, etc. and start fresh, putting on windows 98. I do not have the xp cd, but i did find a 98 boot disk, and i can get it to start into dos with it, but it does not work when I put in "format C:", and when i enter fdisk, it says something like "here are no fixed disks." Is there a manual way to wipe a drive and still be able to use it again, and put 98 on it? I cannot boot windows. Is there anything else I need to post here, like a copy of the bios settings?

Okay so I have a bit if a major issue, so my computer would randomly freeze completely an I mean the keyboard and mouse as well, normally after I log into my account but sometimes before after the windows loading type logo. After about a week of no success in getting it to work I went ahead and bought a recovery flash drive from dell. Everything worked fine after I did that until I tried updating my graphics card driver (keep in mind I have integrated graphics) after I did that the computer restarted and it worked like normal, I started downloading a game fom steam and came back an hour later only to find that it froze yet again. I'm completely stumped as to how to sole this issue. It anyone can come up with a fix for this I will be VERY grateful my computer specs are as follows:
Dell Optiplex 390
Intel for i5 2nd gen CPU @3.10 ghz
Intel HD 2000 graphics
4 GB DDR3 RAM
Dell 245 watt power supply
Western Digital 500 GB HDD

A:Computer completely locks up

to the Bleeping Computer forum.

A freezing issue can be caused by a variety of reasons. I could be either hardware or software but since you already recovered the OS to factory state, i suspect a hardware failure here. Let us test the hardware parts one by one.

Run Dell diagnostics.

Most Dell machines came with a built in diagnostics which offers a basic diagnostic on hardware parts. Although it is not much comprehensive, sometimes helpful in detecting hardware failures.

1. Press F12 during power on to bring the boot menu.

2. Select diagnostics and let it run.

If there are errors detected during the test, report it here. If not, proceed to the next step.

Run memory test using Memtest86+.

1. Download Memtest86+ CD image from the below link.

    http://www.memtest.org/download/4.20/memtest86+-4.20.iso.zip

2. Burn the ISO to a blank CD using Imgburn.

    Download link : http://download.imgburn.com/SetupImgBurn_2.5.8.0.exe

3. Boot from the CD and the test will start to execute immediately. For an accurate result, we should run at least 8 passes of memtest. Since it may take a long time to complete, you can let the test run overnight. Stop the test when either the test completes eight or more passes or there are errors detected.

Report the outcome of both tests in next reply.

Hello everyone I have a huge bug on my computer that is driving me nuts. My sister deleted some system files and messed up everything so I re-installed Windows onto my comp. Instead of fixing the problem it just made alot more. Now I have 2 OS'es running at the same time and they seem to clash alot. All my drivers and other apps are doubled also which leaves me with very little memory too. Also the newer install of the video driver is what everything uses to run but I can't seem to update it because updaters notice the old version of it which is already updated. I have a dell so no factory reset CD, and because I re-installed windows the recovery partition doesn't work anymore. Well that's my problem right now.

I was wondering if I do '...' in command and completely wipe the comp, will the CD-rom still be able to read my install CDs so I can re-install windows?

Also my BIOS somehow has admin-password activated so I can't change up BOOT orders. Is there anyway to figure out my pass or anyway to reset it?

A:Completely Wiping a computer

You have recovery CD's so you are sure that you don't need the recovery partition to reinstall?

During installation, you have the option to remove or format partitions. That is all you need to do. Read the directions as you go.

We can't help with any password issues.

Ok, so I just recently purchased the parts for a new computer, and I am going to build it soon. However, my current PC has a 500GB HD with Windows XP, and I would like to use the same HD in the new computer.

What will I need to know/do considering that I am introducing a new motherboard/graphics card/processor/more memory. I am also migrating from a single core to a quad core... Is it as easy as putting in the hard drive and booting up, installing new drivers (doubt it)? Or will I need to reformat and re-install windows, and then copy my files ()? Or is there something else that you recommend? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

A:Help with moving XP HD to a completely new computer

first you cannot move a harddrive from one computer to another and expect it to work. There are different drivers for the motherboard and other devices. you will have to purchase another copy of windows and install if the windows on the drive is oem or came from another computer.

If the drive has a full retail version of xp, you can do a repair install with the xp cd and it will install the new drivers leaving installed programs and files intact..

I've only had this computer for a little over 2 years. I'm using Windows Vista Home Edition.

Yesterday I booted up my computer and tried to log on. It took 30 minutes for me to log on, and I didn't reach my profile, just a temporary one. I created a new profile so I didn't have to wait through 30 minutes each time I logged on, but that's only a temporary fix.

My computer freezes at random. The mouse is movable but nothing loads or is clickable. I sometimes the freezing happens as soon as I log in. Sometimes it happens when I open a program, sometimes it happens when the screensaver is supposed to come on.

90% of the time the orange "loading" light on my computer is on during the lock-ups, but I don't hear anything coming from the computer.

Am I SOL and have to reinstall Vista or is there something I can do to fix this?

A:Computer completely dead?

try boot in safe mode and see if it works, if it does, then put in your vista disk, boot from it and try a repair on windows.

i would also run a scan for viruses

I'm pretty decent with software but this one has completely bemused me. I did a system restore to my computer and all of my usb ports are not responding to anything, at first I thought it was the stuff I already used i.e. mouse and keyboard, but nothing works within the usbs. Tht meant that i couldn't log back on after my system restore because I couldn't type my password in. Then, for some stupid reason I went to change the voltage setting which is random and stupid, and now the computer won't even turn on. Please help as I don't want to have to fork out for a new computer. Thanks.

Right now, my computer is probably really bugged. I can't delete anything from control panel OR anything from the task manager (via End Process). It says access denied. I can't download anything which I tried to get malwarebytes. Can someone please help me? I also noticed Picexa which is probably the root of the problem. everything I try won't work. I basically can't control what I do and I also noticed ads everywhere that Adblock can't block. Oh and also Microsoft word and other applications won't open.

A:Computer Completely bugged

Speaking for ME ONLY, I would wipe the disk and reinstall everything, but then I do have all disks as well as up to date image backups. Btw, your post sounds too BAD to be true!

Hello all, this is my first time posting here, and I'm starting right away with my question.

I'm running windows XP with online armor and the computer froze all of a sudden completely and upon reboot was running quite slow. I did a few system restores, one to a single day ago and the other to more than that, the latter of which seems to have worked for the most part. However I'm still worried that whatever got onto the computer is still there as the first restore (to a day ago) left the computer still being really slow and whatnot...so, please help. I'll post the logs I need to but forgive me if there's a sticky on that already (I must have missed it).

Thanks so much for reading this
I will try to give as much detail as possible(I am new to this so will try to follow the guidelines) firstly just to let you know my computer does not have much disk space i am not sure if this has caused the problem but have ordered a potable hard drive so i can move some of my files when it comes.
when i started my computer this morning after entering my password it showed a blue screen which stated it was loading my personalized setting (not the usual one i get) it then said it could not do something (sorry to be vague but cant remember the actual words) I thought it could be a space issue so decided to delete some photos. the home screen has changed completely and when i tried to open my documents it said the path didnt exist, i then went through my computer and found my photos. i pressed delete but they didnt go to recycle bin as it is empty, i restarted the computer and the same thing happened. i opened internet explorer and it said welcome to internet explorer 8. my homepage and all my settings are different. Am i being daft and this is just an update???

Hello molliemoo060304 and welcome,

If you look at this file path, you will see that another user was created by Windows:

Quote:

c:\documents and settings\[B]administrator.your-44c319464b.000[/B

]This typically happens when there is a problem loading your existing user profile.

This is most likely a problem you'll need to post in the Windows XP Support section, but before we do, is there any reason you suspect malware to be the cause? Did any of your onboard tools detect anything prior to this happening?

Also, please run dds.scr again. It produces 2 reports - I would like to see the 2nd report it produces, named Attach.txt. Please post that in your next reply.

I've completely messed up my computer. I was trying to fix my CD/DVD drive and went into system registry. I must have changed something that disables the mouse and keyboard as they are not functioning.

Whenever i start up windows i cannot control the mouse or keyboard making the computer useless. I can use the keyboard at the beginning and go into options and boot menu.

Heres the things ive tried and failed at:

Safe mode - failed

Last known good configuration - failed

Reinstalling windows failed as it asks me to reboot pc by pressing f1 but i cant, it just repeats itself.

Resetting CMOS - dint achieve anything

Shouting at it - failed

If you have any other ideas please please help!

Thankyou,

Smandge

A:my computer has been hijacked completely!!

we need a bit more info in order to us to help you out. do you get any errors?

if your internet is working fine, then check out www.majorgeeks.com and click on the spyware section on the left hand side. then download both spybot and adware SE, install them on your computer, update them, and run both spybot and adware SE. see if they detect spyware and let them get rid of it.

i also recommend an online virus scan from trend-micro's website:

see if this helps get rid of your problem.

My pc for the last couple of weeks has been freezing randomly and quite frequently at that. I have checked the error logs and i couldn't find anything. I downloaded the burnintest software to test out my hardware and even switched OS. Eventually narrowed it down to either the video card or video drivers but this happens with windows 7 64bit and vista 64bit. The video drivers i have installed are the latest 195.62 drivers for both OS's even went back to older drivers and that didn't work maybe i just haven't gone back far enough i don't know. Im wondering if this is a hardware or software issue. Could it maybe be the hard drive even? Would appreciate the help.
My PC:
ASUS P6T6 Revolution
Intel Core i7 920
4GB Corsair RAM
250GB Western Digital. (about 2 years old now)
ASUS GeForce 295GTX
850 Watt Thermaltake XT

A:Computer locks up completely

It can be either hardware or software.

I'd disable the video card and see if the lock up disappears. If it does, then it's the video card. It is possible that it's the video driver but for the drivers for both Win7 and Vista to both be bad is unlikely (still possible) More likely it's the video card if isolated.

A:Computer Completely Shut Down

Save your Hijackthis log to a floppy disk and post it via your work PC.If you think you are infected submit a hijackthis log to the HJT Forum. How to submit a hijackthis logDownload HijackthisTry running the following from safe mode (Getting to safe-mode) Sysclean you'll also need the virus template file from here lpt***.zip remember to extract the contents of the zip file into the same folder as Sysclean.comorDrWeb CureITorKASFX which is powered by the Kaspersky AV engine, you will need internet access to update it. If you haven't got net access in safe mode, update it before you use it.If your good with the command line also try Sophos Command Line scanner this command will scan all of your hdd's SAV32CLI.EXE -F -di -remove -dn -mbr -all -zip -p=avscanlog.txt and give you a log file to review afterwards. Also try installing and running A2 Free and Ewido again run from safe mode.I'd also run Spybot(Spybot Tutorial) and AdawareIf your using Win2K/XP run adaware/spybot from "safe mode with command prompt" If your using Win9x just run it from safe mode the command line options aren't needed..At the C:\ prompt type the following:-cd\C:\progra~1\spybot~1\spybotsd.exe /autocheck /autofixcd\C:\progra~1\lavasoft\ad-awa~1\ad-aware.exe

Hi,

I got infected with a very bad virus. HOT SEX, Error Cleaner, Privacy Protector, Spyware&Malware Protection icons appeared on my desktop while some windows were opening/closing from nowhere. I panicked and pushed the Restart button, and from now on, 10 seconds after the computer's startup, it freezes completely; I even hear the fan/HDD inside the computer case slow down. The mouse still works, but that's all.

Even if I try to boot in safe mode, when it comes the time to choose the safe mode, the keyboard no longer responds; enter, arrows, I cannot choose the mode.

Now, I'm on my Mac (thank god Macs exist) and still searching how to get rid of this ****.

I can't even run HijackThis! : ( I know that I'm in the forum "HijackThis Log Help", but since I can't run HijackThis, I post this here with the hope that someone will know a solution.

I have Windows XP Home, Core2Duo, 1024 RAM.

Well... I have exhausted my resources on this one. A friend and I have been working on my computer for about a month and a half now, and we cannot figure out what the problem is. Basically, here is the problem. My computer, in general, seems to work. I can boot up, use the internet, copy files, etc.... what I CAN'T do is:

- install any NFTS operating system
- install MANY programs, such as warcraft 3, half life, office, etc...

After working for a long time, reformatting, swapping hardware, I still have the same basic problems. I first thought it was a problem with the O.S., so I took off XP and tried to put on 2000. I got an error that said my hard drive might be damaged, so I installed 98, which worked fine. I can format with FAT32 now, and even upgrade to 2k keeping it FAT32, but if I try to partition the drive with NFTS, it fails. Okay... so, I figure it MUST be a problem with the hard drive.

After this I installed a fresh hard drive, actually, it's an old 1.2gb one that I have tested on other comps, so I know it works. I tried the same thing, installing half life and wc3, and neither of them worked. I know they DO work, becuase I have used the same CDs on other computers, and they work fine. After this, I tried swapping my TDK 32x with my HP 8x from my other computer, and it still didn't work. I still couldn't install anything.

I have tried formatting the drive, running diags on it from western digital, (the drive is a WD drive), (I get "no... Read more

Hey Techsupportforum,

First off, thanks for concerning my issue.
Recently, my computer has just been starting to do funny things.
Google Chrome stopped working first.
I did everything to try and fix it, but nothing worked.
Then later, I came home after having it on all day, and my background was changed to something saying :DANGEROUS SPYWARE:
Then telling me to download some program to fix it.
I never downloaded this program.

Theres this new program on my computer now though.
Its called AntivirusXP2009 or something.
Ive seen it before I think. Im pretty sure its causing most of the problem.
I tried removing it, but its nowhere to be found on my computer.
Not in the Add Remove Programs list either.

Oh, and whenever I try to open Task manager a box pops up and says :Your administrator has disabled Task Manager: Which I have not done.

Firefox, and IE no longer work at all.
I can still ping and everything.
But No browsers work.
MSN works still.

But yeah, thats my story.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Okay, here's the deal.

I wanted to reformat my wife's computer so that when we sell it to her mother, it will be nice and clean and newish. So I set my BIOS to load to cd, and loaded via my XP Home installation cd. It said it needed a partition to load into, so I deleted my old partitions, and then told it to load onto a new partition. It then installed, loaded XP and VIOLA!

... nothing works.

It doesn't recognize my ethernet card, I can't get on the internet, doesn't know that my graphics card can handle more than 16 bit and roughly 600 x 400 resolution... It has no knowledge of any hardware on the system apparently. Nothing will work right...

what did I do? and how do I fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
