Malwarebytes Update Error

Q: Malwarebytes Update Error

Windows 7 x64
Firefox
Connected to wireless modem

Just got a brand new computer, within an hour, started having redirect issues. I assume the problem is located in the router.

Anyhow, I started by installing Malwarebytes, ran a scan with no results. I uninstalled and installed Hitman 3.5, again with no results. And eventually made my way back to Malwarebytes. But during the initial update, I got this error message...
"An error has occurred. Please report this error code to our support
team.

PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATING (11001,0, Host not found)

No such host is known."
I haven't been able to find that error in any Google searches.

Any ideas?

I saw Sendori listed in the add/remove list and got a bit nervous. Not sure where it came from. I tried to run Malwarebytes and it went to "connecting to the server" to update since it was 57 days overdue. They it locks up (nor responding) and never updates so I cannot run it. I have run it many times before with no issues. Any thoughts??

By the way, I also see Transmute and WinPcap and have no idea what those are either.

I hoped I would never have to post in this forum, but starting last Saturday I have been unable to update MBAM or SAS. I can run scans with both and they show no infections. I ran a thorough scan + archives with Avast and it shows no infections. The error I get with MBAM is 732 (0,0) which indicates it cannot access the Internet. I use only the Windows firewall and have never had this problem before - and obviously, I CAN access the Internet since I am here!

Also Revo Uninstaller and Sandboxie can't update either. I am not experiencing any popups or slowdowns and I always surf as a limited user; I use Firefox 3.5 (3.5.1 as of today) with NoScript and AdBlockPlus. Windows update has installed the latest patches last Tuesday. I am baffled. Can someone please take a look at this HJT log and help me out?

Many thanks in advance.....

I should add that this is a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop XP Home SP3. I never use IE. I ran this log on the limited user acct - should I post one from the admin acct? I cannot update MBAM etc from either acct.

(I deleted the log from limited acct and pasted a new log from admin acct - )

Hello, ComboFix is a tool that should only be run under the supervision of someone who has been trained in its use. Using it on your own can cause problems with your computer.for MBAM1. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.2. Restart your computer (very important).3. Download and run this utility. Mbam clean4. It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).5. After the computer restarts, install the latest version from here. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.phpNote: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent.Note: If using Free version, ignore the part about putting in your license key and activating.Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray and run a Quick Scan and post that log.

Then tried to install Malwarebytes, copied the setup file from my laptop on

Seemed to install OK, the control panel opens, but it can't access the
update files. I verified it's connected to the internet.

Have made sure Malwarebytes is allowed in her firewall.

Also tried to download newest version with no success, from the home MB site, also

Best AV

Sound like you have more than one security program installed in your system?
You never know what will happen but then again I don't think many people believe in installing more than one anti-virus program per computer. Just delete them all but one!
It takes up a lot of your ram. You only need about one antivirus program, just make it a program that runs from the time you start your computer untill you shut it down. A program like this is one that you will have to purchase.
instead of using multi anti virus and other security tools i would suggest be aware about spyware maleware and other malicious files Use any one good Anti-virus as you mentioned you are using lots of antispywares antivirus etc , using multiple AV can be result of false virus warnings and alerts conflicts and it will also consume your memory.
PC Health Advisor is exactly what you need security program, brings together high quality tools in one comprehensive program.

It is from CNET......also Compatible with Windows 7 Windows Vista and Windows XP

A:Malwarebytes can't update

Hi brseavey Did you try reinstalling Malwarebytes yet? Usually, resintalling it fixes a lot of issues. I suggest you to uninstall it from the Control Panel, and then run the mbam-clean.exe executable to clean the remnants of the install. Once done, restart your computer, download a new installer for it and install it. Then see if your scan still hangs on the database update.Link on how to fully uninstall Malwarebytes: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/122284-mbam-clean-removal-process/

I have a paid full version of the program. It is in my startup. I have it set to automatically do a daily scan and that works OK.

However, it NEVER updates - either the program or the Database Version. I have to manually "update" in order to get the latest data. I have it set to "Download and install update if available" and the Scheduler Updater is set to "hourly".

I have been told that it is supposed to automatically update. I have sent their Tech Support a query about this early Monday AM but so far no response.

When I try to update Malwarebytes, I get Error code 732 (12007, 0). Google research = malwarebytes can't access/reach the internet to update. this started around sat 02/06.

Tested IE8, Firefox, Chrome, even Opera. I have internet access. MS Vista updated. SuperAntiSpyware updated.

What's wrong with Mbam 1.44 or what's preventing it from updating?

Yes, I have both turned off firewall & anti-viris. Error code 732 rears its ugly head. LOL.

About a week ago a thumb drive was used to add personal photos to my computer. Otherwise I have not transfered anything via thumb drive or from computer to computer in over a year.

I am currently running in safe mode and using Wyzo since explorer will not work. I cannot see most of my files although 'properties' shows they are there.

I have tried Rkill but it will not shut down the 'Security Essentials' Trojan window.

Please help

I just had a thought... Is it possible that the Microsoft Security Essentials Window is legit and not a Trojan. All of explorer applicstions have been blocked and quarantined. That is why I am using Wyzo.

I just did a search for 'Ramnit' and nothing came up.

Hello, and many thanks in advance for anyone willing to give of their time (and expertise); I really appreciate it. My OS is Windows XP Home SP3, and my defenses are avast! Home Edition, SUPERAntiSpyWare Free Edition, and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Free Edition, with only avast! running in real-time. I also use Windows firewall (edited 1 April to add this fact). To the best of my recollection here's what's transgressed. On 26 March I logged on, watched avast! automatically update, manually updated Superantispyware and Malwarebytes, then ran a Malwarebytes' quick scan, the results of which showed everything clean except for
Registry Data Items Infected:

After an hour-long Google session I decided to label these as 'Ignore.' On with my business, mostly typical surfing and emailing, the occasional music download, and everyday noting that avast! updated automatically within minutes of logging on. On 28 March I once again manually updated Superantispyware and Malwarebytes', but didn't run a scan with either. No problems, system running well. I am currently running Windows 7, with Malwarebytes as my main antivirus. I had been using a different version of malwarebytes and it was always great at keeping my computer running cleanly and quickly. It automatically updated to the Malwarebytes Premium and since then it's been incredibly slow while using google chrome and getting worse everyday. Malwarebytes scan finds nothing. I've run ccleaner and spybot without finding anything as well. If you can lead me in the right direction I would really appreciate it! I did a defrag about 6 months ago and my computer has been dusted/cleaned recently.

A:Possible Infection after Malwarebytes update

Hello Nancy..first you should know that MBAM is not an Antivirus, it's an antimalware.Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not meant to be a replacement for antivirus software. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a complementary but essential program which detects and removes zero-day malware and "Malware in the Wild". This includes malicious programs and files, such as virus droppers, worms, trojans, rootkits, dialers, spyware, and rogue applications that many antivirus programs do not detect or cannot fully remove. That being said, there are many infections that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware does not detect or remove which any antivirus software will, such as file infectors. It is important to note that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware works well and should run alongside antivirus software without conflicts. In some rare instances, exclusions may need to be set for your specific antivirus product to achieve the best possible system performance.https://helpdesk.malwarebytes.org/entries/20818081-Does-Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware-replace-antivirus-software-  Lets do a few scans and see what you have going on.Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.Checkmark the following checkboxes:Flush DNSReport IE Proxy SettingsReset IE Proxy SettingsReport FF Proxy SettingsReset FF Proxy SettingsList content of HostsList IP configurationList Winsock EntriesList last 10 Event Viewer logList Installed ProgramsList Users, Partitions and Memory size.Click Go and post the result ... I have had a redirection virus for over two weeks. I tried Microsoft Essentials, MalwareBytes, and Kaspersky to get rid of it and nothing did. Yesterday, I took my computer to a friend who reformatted the hard drive for me and I reinstalled my Windows7 Home Premium. I started IE8 and started downloading Windows updates. I also downloaded AVG 9.? (the latest). While I was online, I started getting redirected again. I would get blank Google Analytic screens and redirected to supposed shopping or ad sites. Computer is Vista 64 bit Home Premium. Cannot run update from Malwarebytes as it tells me that the firewall is blocking. Also cannot update AVG. Both immediately tell me they cannot connect. I can however browse to www.malwarebytes.org. I have done manual updates to both applications and run scans that come up clean. Of note, pc has mozilla firefox installed and this browser seems to work fine. IE7 32bit works fine as well but IE7 64bit gives me 403 forbidden errors for all sites including google. I have tried to set both IE and FF as the default browser and all results are the same. I have also installed superantispyware and cannot update that one either.

Ideas?

I've been encountering several problems on two different laptops. The first is described below - I'll make subsequent posts for others problems.

I downloaded Malwarebytes on to my wife's laptop (Windows XP 2002 version). When I attempt to update I receive the error: "MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12007, 0, WinHttpSendRequest". My inability to update, I suspect, is preventing me from tackling the other problem.

Reading other posts I realize this is not a unique problem, but one-on-one help would be much appreciated.

I have Malwarebytes on two laptops...both Dell running Windows 7. The only difference (that I know of) is that one Dell is 11 months old and the other one is 1 month old. The newest computer notifies me when Malwarebytes has updated the data base (automatically). The older laptop just has a little pop up that says it hasn't been updated for 2 days and then I have to click on that pop up and it will up date. Why would one update automatically and the other just give a pop up message to do the update manually?

Using the free version 2.2.0.1024 on Windows 7 SP1. There are some problems when attempting to update the definitions. They don't occur every time,  just randomly:

1- When updating is finished, the blue process bar won't disappear. No problem when restarting.

2- When going directly to "Scan now", it stucks while applying updates, so it never starts scanning.

I noticed this behaviour on several machines (Windows 7+Vista) with versions 2.x installed. No similar problems when using v. 1.75.

Any experiences? Thanks.

I have an odd assortment of problems. It started off like simple malware (not that it's ever simple but ...). I've had problems before and have always been able to find info on this website, follow the instructions given, and gotten rid of it but this is just different.

My browser was redirected a few days ago to ad sites but only a few times and it hasn't done it since. I deleted cookies, history, cookies, and defragged and thought maybe it had helped but then this other stuff started.

I cannot update my AVG Anti-Virus (Free, 9.0). It says that the update manager is active but then says "update failed, access is forbidden by the server" when I attempt to update manually.

Ad-Aware isn't finding anything wrong, and it wouldn't update at first but will now after I reinstalled it.

Spybot isn't finding anything wrong, but it will update.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will open but the program closes within 10 seconds. I tried reinstalling it and it still doesn't update and then closes again.

My Windows Firewall is down. When I go to the Security Center, this message is posted:
Currently unavailable b/c security center has not started or was stopped. Please close this window, restart the computer (or start the "Security Center" service) and then open Security Center again.

I've restarted it several times. Doesn't help. When I click on Windows Firewall, I get this message:

Hello.

My computer has acted really weird lately. Ever since I was on youtube, my computer was attacked by viruses. Avira "Supposedly" removed them, but after this, Firefox would show up saying that it cannot display the page despite IE working. I made sure im not working offline because it tends to activate on my computer periodically.

I restarted my computer and now it won't even open Firefox. I downloaded Trojan Remover and Malwarebytes. I then ran a scan with Avira and it found one item which it move to quarantine. Then I ran a scan with Trojan remover and it found nothing. When I clicked on Malware bytes it asked to update because it's 80 days out of date. When I click update it says...

Quote:

An error has occured. Please Report this error code to our support team.

PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATING (11004, 0, No address found)

The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found.

So then I try to run a search on it, and around File 230 it quits scanning and displays the same message from above.

THEN I tried to system restore to 3 days ago, but it seemed to take awhile restoring. When I turned back on it said it had a problem restoring so files were unaffected. I changed it to 4 weeks ago, and the same message pops up and nothing has happened. I've ran another search with Avira and still it finds nothing.

I tried to switch to Google Chrome even and everytime I run the installer it says it has stopped... Read more

I have a Dell Dimension E510 which had a malware called System Security. I found the exe file and deleted it. Because someone earlier on the board had recommended Malwarebytes and I have come to depend on it, I tried to load it on this computer. I loaded the install file from my memory stick but when I tried to load it the language window would come up but as soon as I click English there is a flash of the next screen and it stops.

When I open IE7 it opens fine, when is type malwarebytes into the search window and press the search icon IE7 shuts down.

He had Spybot Search and Destroy on the computer and I was able to update and run it. There were 167 malware files it found and deleted but I still get both the actions listed above, with the install file I still get the flash and IE7 shuts down when I search for malwarebytes.

For antivirus he has AVG8 free. When I try to open it either from the desktop icon or the notification area icon I get get the hour glass for a couple of seconds then nothing.

I tried booting in safe mode and the same events happened to both malwarebytes and AVG8.

I tried to do a system restore but there are no restore points older than today when I was working on it.

I pulled the hard drive, put it in a shell and scanned it with another computer with Malwarebytes. The scan found the System Security rogue malware and it was deleted but I am still blocked from installing Malwarebytes or updating AVG 8 free.

A:Malwarebytes blocked from installing, AVG can't update

Hello ,I am moving this from XP to Am I Infected forum..Try these to get it to run, then post a scan log..Some types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it. Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run. ***Another work around is by not using the mouse to install it, Just use the arrow keys, tab, and enter keys.

Ok, last night I had a visit from Antivirus Live and luckily I think, or I HOPE, that I caught it before it really wrecked stuff up thanks to Malwarebytes. Well today, I was just surfing the internet and I decided to try to get into Yahoo Messenger Chat and low and behold, nothing would load. So I knew something was up, and I went to start scanning stuff. Well, I'm scanning without updates because BOTH Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware wouldn't update...AND I thought I'd try updating YIM to it's newest version and as predictable...no dice. So I know that something's still on my computer and I don't know what, so that's why I need help. Right now, I'm running both CA Yahoo Anti-spy and SUPERAntiSpyware to see what they get. But I do have a HiJackThis Log, and I can also try to get a log of my last 2 Malwarebytes Scans. Help me Tech Support Guy, you're my only hope.

Recently this laptop has gotten slower and slower - even though we've been regularly scanning with Malwarebytes and AVG and (we thought) successfully cleaning objects that were found. Last night however, Malwarebytes ceased functioning - which is a telltale sign to me that something has gotten past it,. Did a hard shutdown - and upon rebooting, Windows attempted to run a full scandisk and invoke Windows recovery - but this morning it shoed unsuccessful. However - I did click through the screens and reboot - and as you can see - Windows did start back up again after all. I have manually gone through the Control Panel list of programs to see if anything jumped out at me - only one item - *Rocket Tab* - which I searched for on another computer and followed steps to manually remove from each of the three browsers that are on this laptop - IE, Chrome and Firefox - but it was not active on any of them - and when I tried to manually do an uninstall from Control Panel - it said it had already been removed.

I then tried running Malwarebytes again - and again it won't even open. From past experience I know to stop trying to fix things myself at this point and to start a forum thread to get assistance from smarter people than me So - help please!

Many thanks in advance! This is my fiancee's laptop and he's been fighting with it now for the last couple of months as performance has downgraded significantly.

Well, I had a monster of a virus the other day, I think it was a rootkit. Well, I tried using MBAM to scan but it didn't start, so I installed a new one and renamed it, still didn't work. I used combofix and it fixed some things, one of which being MBAM. I ran a scan and it found about 72 infections. I deleted them all and rebooted.

I ran SAS and it found 32 more infections, deleted those too and rebooted. I then tried to do another scan with MBAM but I couldn't update anymore. I checked SAS and I couldn't update that either. Both programs are in my firewalls list and are allowed. I use windows firewall. The only antivirus I use is avast right now. I uninstalled MBAM and installed it again, still couldn't update. I tried with Revo and still. I even did the winsockfix and still cannot update. I keep getting error 732. I wonder if the infections I had somehow deleted something tied to the updating of MBAM and SAS. I just ran a quick scan with MBAM and it found no infections.

Hello,

currently I am fighting an infection by the smart hdd malware on my PC following the self help instructions on this site.

My wlan-manager seems not to work in the safe mode and so I have no Internet connection on the infected computer. I downloaded Malwarebytes to an USB-stick and ran the setup from there. Without Internet connection, Malwarebytes could not update and I could only run the version as downloaded, which i got informed is 76 days old.

Malwarebytes - as rrkill before - did not find any infection as yet. Could this be because Malwarebytes was not updated ? If so, how can I bring the update information onto the infected computer ?

Thanks for your support.

My laptop has begun to act "funny" in just the past couple of days. It will still boot up and connect me to the internet wirelessly - after that I'm never sure what exactly will happen. It could freeze while I am doing things, or.....the other day I was on the internet and going from one webpage to another when all of a sudden Internet Explorer shut down, and my computer decided to log off/shut down all by itself. Once that happened I figured I would run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to see if it would find any culprits - before running a scan I tried to update it. It connected to their server and informed me that a new version was available - when I chose to download and install the new version, the computer would not do it. It didn't quite "freeze" as I could still open up other things, but it would not let me update Malwarebytes. I then jumped on Internet Explorer and downloaded the new Malwarebytes (v. 1.42) setup file onto the desktop and ran it from there, but the computer would not allow it to run for some reason. I then ran Malwarebytes with the "old" definitions (from approx. 12/1/09) and it did not find any malware. I ran an AVG free scan and all it came back with were cookies. I don't know what's going on ....I hope someone out there can help me!

I don't know if this helps, but when the computer freezes, the only thing available for me to do eventually is to shutdown by pressing and holding the power butto... Read more

Had a few viruses recently and ran malwarbytes and superantispyware and they apparently got rid of them but now my Internet Explorer isnt working and i cant update either of the antivirus programs. IE says it cannot display webpage as if i was offline but im positive my connection is good because firefox works fine. Superantispyware says definitions are up to date even though its been about a month since my last update and malwarbytes gives an error code 732 (0,0). Im not sure if I'm still infected or if maybe I just need to reinstall these things. When I had the previous viruses it was very difficult to run the both super and malware and I was only able to after I ran malwarebytes in safe mode and got rid of a virus that way. Any advice?

Have you tried logging in to safemode? To get in to safemode gently tap F8 as the computer reboots. When you see the menu, select safemode with networking.

I've recently been having an issue with my Dell Inspiron N5110 running Windows 7 Home. It has been running very hot lately (I've been concentrating on keeping the intake and exhaust vents clear while using it and shutting it down when not in use). Yesterday, a few minutes after clicking on a notification to update MBAM, i got a BSOD and the system would not recover from the dump, I had to shut down manually. Ever since the issue, the system runs extremely slow and is incapable of doing much of anything.
When I first start it up, I'm able to open the start menu and even get into the resource monitor, which spikes initially, then calms down. As soon as I open Chrome, it jumps to 100% Highest Active Usage and won't load any pages. It hangs when I try to type in the address bar, and even switching between active windows is slow. It remains at 100% for several minutes after closing Chrome, then settles back down to zero. The problem also occurs in safe mode.

I attempted an MBAM scan, but it took over 6 hours and didn't complete, and never found any malicious objects. Initial google searching led me to suspect an HD issue, but an attempted disk check reported the following error: Disk Check cannot function do to a recent software package installation. Run System Restore to a point before the software installation.
I checked system restore, but the most recent restore point was 7/2, and the only items were AVG, Firefox, and Chrome updates. I tried to restore to that point, b... Read more

Hello, I was using my Dad's computer to print something when I noticed a very funny default homepage for Firefox. something to do with "Rival Gaming" an addon I have disabled but not been able to delete this far. None of the instructions I found on removing this addon worked, and when I tried to scan with Malwarebytes it would not update. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it still will not update. I found instructions on updating it manually, but it was still outdated by 10 days, and even though a scan at that point revealed one infection which I removed, it still will not update. I tried copying and pasting the database and rules files from an up to date clean computer's malwarebytes, and a full scan revealed no infections, but it still will not update.

Additionally, I noticed that Windows Firewall is disabled, and all attempts to enable it have yielded an error message. This seems to indicate that this machine has a malware problem :(

I hope I have written this post correctly according to forum specifications, if I have not done so I apologize ahead of time and will modify it as directed. The DDS text is listed below, and the attach.zip and ark.zip are attached as well.

Hello everyone. Thank you in advance for looking at this for me. I have tried multiple scans using MalwareBytes, AVG, Ad Aware, tdsskiller, UnHack Me and none of them seem to find this bugger. I am hoping that my log will allow you guys to see something that I cannot see. I am running Window 7 (64 bit) Home Premium on an Acer system. I noticed I was getting an inordinate amount of pop-ups, went to run Spybot and it wouldn't open. Went to open AVG and it wouldn't update... Same with Adaware. Found this site, decided to try malwarebytes... it installed, but wouldn't run afterward.

I then tried a system restore, but when I click the final "next" in order to get the process on the way... Nothing happens.

I also tried all of the above in Safe mode... but willing to try again. I'm barely savvy, just know a few things.

Where do I even start with this problem?

Recently I was infected with Antivirus Soft and I used your self help guide to remove the infection, however, since then, when I use Google, and click on a link, I get redirected to a different site. Also, now when I attempt to update Malwarebytes, it gives me an error message.

Hi all,
a few days ago I did the usual and clicked update on malwarebytes ... it told me it couldn't connect to the server .... as I have an intermittent intenet connection I ignored that for a couple of days but recently scanned using malwarebytes and what normally takes 20 mins and scans 10s of 1000s of files took 30 secs and scanned just 4000 files ... It seems the not connecting to the server isn't to do with an internet connection as I can connect using firefox etc, it's just malwarebytes that can't.

I have various anti virus software on my computer which may be cuasing problems including AVG free and Sophos (possibly others), each of which occassionaly tells me its stopped me from being infected so I've been reluctant to remove any of them ...

?? what's up??

Please help ...

I have no problem accessing web pages with Firefox; it works very well without issues so far.

IE7 started giving sporadic problems with certain web pages about a week ago and it got progressively worse until it now displays "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" on all pages. Also, MalwareBytes displays "Update failed. Make sure you are connected to the internet . . ."

Windows firewall is turned off. We're running Norton Antivirus and I cannot find anything about how to temporarily disable it. I cannot figure out which version it is; but, I suspect 2007. We are not using any kind of "Internet Security", just Antivirus.

IE must work. Many of the sites we use for business will not work with Firefox.

Cannot download or update various antivirus tools. I have been scouring various forums for weeks to try and download and run chameleon versions, etc. and nothing works. Please help.

A:Cannot update malwarebytes, rogue killer, kaspersky, etc.

Try using Rkill before attempting the updates. Do Not reboot after running Rkill.

RKill is a program that was developed at BleepingComputer.com that attempts to terminate known malware processes so that your normal security software can then run and clean your computer of infections. When RKill runs it will kill malware processes and then removes incorrect executable associations and fixes policies that stop us from using certain tools. When finished it will display a log file that shows the processes that were terminated while the program was running.
As RKill only terminates a program's running process, and does not delete any files, after running it you should not reboot your computer as any malware processes that are configured to start automatically will just be started again. Instead, after running RKill you should immediately scan your computer using some sort of anti-malware or anti-virus program so that the infections can be properly removed. Use this obfuscated link to download Rkill: iExplore.exe Download Link

Hello,When I perform a Google search, the results show up, but when I click on the link, I am re-directed to another site. I also recently noticed that my AVG virus scanner is no longer updating because it could not find an Internet connection. I uninstalled it and tried to re-install it, but it will not install because it cannot find the connection. I attempted to install Malwarebytes and it seemed to install, but when I open it up to perform the scan, it just shuts down. I have a laptop that's infected with some malware I've never seen before, it has successfully stopped my from running the setup for malwarebytes (and has screwed up Chameleon EVERY TIME it tries to do anything) it also seems to prevents the GUI of MalwareBytes and keeps it from running in the background. Thought it does NOTHING to stop MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) from doing anything which is odd.

See if using RKill will allow you to update MBAM and scan with it. Once you have completed the RKill scan....DO NOT REBOOT until after completing

About three days ago, my laptop got infected with something. Avira started popping up messages about infected.webpage.gen and EXP/Pidief.GI [exploit. I tried some stuff, and when I use MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Avira the results are clean. However, there is still clearly a problem. Two specific websites that I used to visit semi-frequently get redirected. I know these sites themselves are fine since I've visited them on my iTouch. They get redirected to various places such as Yahoo Hot Jobs, etc. Also, any antivirus/spyware/malware sites I can not open, it says the page cannot be found. This is the issue I had before I tried anything. Other than that I can browse the internet just fine. Also, can not update MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, etc. Although Avira appears to work fine. Other than this, the computer appears to be in perfectly working order. I probably did some things without seeking proper help first so I don't know if I did a incomplete job of fixing it, absolutely nothing worth anything, or what, and that was probably stupid, but I need help. Please.Edit: It seems the Group Policy has been messed with.Edit2: Looked at a few things with VirusTotal. So far: PEV.exe gets "(Suspicious) - DNA Scan" and "Suspicious File" from Cat-QuickHeal and eSafe respectively. zip.exe gets "Virus in password protected archive" by eSafenircmd.exe "Application.Win32.Nircmd" "NirCmd" from Comodo and SophosSWXCACLS.exe "... This topic can be closed now. I managed to get to malwarebytes.org by going to the website through a proxy website, found a link to the malwarebytes manual updater, opened it on the proxy website and got new definitions. Ran malwarebytes and found 3 registry keys for Trojan.DNSChanger, quarantined, deleted. Cleaned everything with CCleaner, etc , disabled then renabled System restore made new restore point, uninstalled combofix, etc. Updated malwarebytes, SuperAntispyware and did another scan. All clean. Now everything appears to working and all clean so yeah.Case closed.

Hi - Running MS Windows XP Pro SP2; IE7 and Firefox; tried to update to SP3 (on IE7) and found I could not access microsoft updates page. Been working on this problem for 2 days and seems I can't update Malwarebytes either. Ran Malwarebytes and it picked up DNS trojans and removed them but still can't access updates. I'm on WildBlue satellite Internet connection (don't think I'm on a proxy server; it's not checked on my screen). Tried a few free anti-whatever applications and they did not come up with anything (sorry, can't remember which ones; one was for a worm that was known for blocking security sites). Anyway, I'd be happy to repeat anything. I have this same problem on my laptop (is it something to do with Wild Blue?) I only have basic knowledge of running system reports, so I'd need step by step instructions. THANKS!! Have a great day!

As of this post I have only seen this problem arise when Mbam's upgrade is installed with a stand alone XP OS, and not with a Windows 7 - XP dual-boot system, but that is not to say it cannot happen.

There has already been one SevenForums member that has had problems, and that is what prompts me to post.

This is what happened to me:

On my XP Pro SP3 machine I went to upgrade to the new version today (1.60.0.1800) through the program, and it generated a program crash report. Task manager could not end it because it was not listed.

I then un-installed it, downloaded a fresh copy, re-installed, and it generated the same report.
Researched "Mbam xp crash" Found this: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=103207

I finally just removed it, and will wait until MBAM figures it out.

In the meantime I saw this:

A:Malwarebytes v1.60.1800 Program Update Freezing with XP

It has been a little over three hours since I have been running Mbam, and MSE together, and I turned off MSE's Real-Time Protection.

What I noticed was every time I went to preview/edit one of my posts/replies or go to another web site the browser (IE8) would switch to the new site, but it hung until I clicked on an open part of the tab's window.
Then the title bar would flash quickly, and the new site would snap open.

I turned off MSE's Real-Time Protection, and left the Pro version of Mbam run. I watched as the performance of the browser slowly improved to, where now the response is instantaneous with my mouse clicks to move forward or back a page/tab/or site.

Without further research I can only surmise that Mbam has a learning curve.

To give you an idea of my XP machine:

Later today I will run a full scan with Mbam, and post the results.
Until then, it is getting late for me, and I am signing off for now....

Not sure whats going on, system is slow, Malwarebytes came back with error 714 (0,9), so uninstalled using add/remove programs - but even that continually showed error code thru process. Have now reinstalled Malwarebytes and running scan - nothing detected on scan yet. Tried to print on Dell 924 Photo printer (which has worked fine for 5 years) and came back printing error. Tried to add/remove MS SQL 2005 program, wouldn't allow me to uninstal...this program had error messages at startup, wasn't even sure what it was or how it got on the system, so decided to uninstal after inquiring on techguy software forum..but it wouldn't let me uninstal it. I think the program was probably related to high school technology class with the boys. Anyways, here is the hyjackthis log attached. Any help would be appreciated. This was the family PC, but now the kids are gone and I'm just trying to get it cleaned up so I can use it again. Dell Dimension 4550, Windows XP SP3, AVG antivirus. Thanks!

Every time I try to update Malwarebytes on this system, it crashes. I've never installed it on this system before, so it's kind of strange.
Even in Safe Mode with Networking.

Gmer crashed while I was clicking inbetween the tabs at the top, so I started it again and then when I walked away and came back, Windows had BSOD, but rebooted before I had a chance to catch the error message.

Combofix runs without a problem, and has removed some things.
MSE is fine...runs but never seems to detect anything...but then again, it's MSE.

Windows 7 x64 (Service Pack 1)

What should I try/do next?

A:Malwarebytes crashes when attempting to update, Gmer crashed too...

I had an infection about 10 days ago and thought it was gone, but it seems not. It was called win32 or something like that. Malwarebytes runs and scans ok at the moment, but it was patchy for the last week or so. Some times it would run ok and some times it would run and instantly terminate after I tried initiating a scan. However, when I click 'check for updates' the relevant update pop up box appears for about 1 second before terminating along with the entire program. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, including using the MBAM cleanup tool, but to no avail. A full scan with malwarebytes reveals nothing of note. There are just a few casino and poker PUPs, which I was previously aware of, and don't think are malicious in any way. Any help much appreciated. Thank you.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002, updating to SP3, with all critical updates installed (to date). IE8 and Firefox. ESET Smart Security, COMODO Firewall, Wired DSL (Belkin) modem/router. (System Summary at the end of this post.)

My two main concerns that I'd like to address right now are listed directly below. Other anomalies and steps I have already taken are explained further down. You might like to know upfront that I did have a rootkit several months ago. Since then, I have reformatted twice.

1. When trying to install MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware I receive the following error message:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

An error occured while trying to create a file in the destination directory:
Access is denied

2. When trying to update Spybot - Search & Destroy I receive -two- error messages, both indicating the same problem. (ie. unable to copy certain files across.) I am currently unable to replicate the error to provide exact error codes as Spybot - S&D says that there are no updates available. But I fear the updates were not properly implemented because of these two error messages.

----------

Other Anomalies

. I am unable to rename or copy some of my files & folders. I have noticed this seems to happen to files and folders I have recently been working on. The windows error message states that it is being used by another program.

. My computer's fan is peddling its little heart out, soundin... Read more

A:Cannot install MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware or Update my Spybot - S&D

Problem abated.

Infection Trojan.Agent removed.

Trojan.Agent
Date spotted:
First seen on 2008-01-15.
Last seen on 2009-09-13.

Detection statistics:
This object is 6.34% of all objects detected.
109,666,256 instances detected worldwide.

The reason why various files and folders couldn't be copied/moved/renamed was do to Comodo's Proactive Defense system.

When you first load Comodo Internet Security (version 3.11), you should be on the "summary" tab. Near the bottom right you will find, Proactive Defense. Undernearth Proactive defense, click "waiting for your review".

I had over a thousand entries in the My Pending Files window, so I ticked the "All" box to select them all. Then I clicked the "Move to" button and selected, "My own safe files". Then I was able to install MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware, which is what found the above-mentioned Trojan, which incidently, was a file called:

EXE.exe

So if anyone else is having similar problems, particularly with noticing a blue dot intermittently appearing on or under your mouse pointer, search your computer for this file. Of course, it is more than likely to be called something else on your system; obviously it would be best to run MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware, as the following listed programs (to date) didn't pick it up:

ESET Smart Security
COMODO Anti-Virus (part of COMODO internet security)
SpyBot Search & Destroy

That means the online scan or the software you get and install like Trend Micro , kaspersky , pandasecurity , Malwarebytes are NT base .They will no longer run on win95/98/ME .

Even the new AVG will not run on win95/98/ME .Only adware SE ,spybot and zone alrm will work on any OS.
Also there is a new malware going around called yieldmanager and other one I read that cannot be removed that is like this one but forgot the name , has it is very new and the malware removers have not updated the siganture.

After reading all the comments, I thought, \"Jeez I guess I need to change my email addy\". Then I got the results of the scan. I got one for you. Just finished scanning my puter with spyhunter 3 and guess where my ad yieldmanager came from? The stupid games that are loaded on every vista operating system!!

I've been working on a friend's laptop with this devilish problem; she's not computer savvy, so I've no idea where she picked it up. Still haven't gotten rid of it; used spybot search and destroy, AVG, Ad-Aware, and Zone Alarm. Can't shake the thing. As for reliable web-based email, I use mail.com and myway.com. I'd had great luck with both...no hitch hikers. Good luck with this monster.

When you're having issues with Malwarebytes, one of the solutions generally suggested by the Help Desk to try first is to uninstall/reinstall as follows:How to fully Uninstall/Reinstall Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x

I'm running Malwarebytes Pro on Win XP. Constantly during the day I get a pop-up window that the database has been updated, and I have stop what I'm doing to click on the pop-up to make it go away.

Is there any way at all -- even a registry change -- that can either make the pop-up turn itself off after one second or not appear at all? (Yes I know I need to be aware that I'm up to date, but I can do that manually.)

A:Can I disable/change Malwarebytes update notification window?

Hi,

Yes, you can disable automatic updates in Malwarebytes.
Open Malwarebytes > Protection tab > scheduler button > Update tab and there you can adjust the frequency for update checks, or just delete the scheduled task instead.

2 Days ago the computer would not reboot because it said:

Waiting for MBAM ..

and forget the rest that it said but .. was something about how it was waiting for it to either shut down or update or something .. and it said it was "preventing Windows from restarting".

Anyway after reboot it said that there was an update so I updated it and it was successful. That was last night.. Then today after another reboot (was trying to fix a video driver issue) I tried to run a scan and it stopped working.

I'd go to the Programs and Features applet of the Control Panel and uninstall Malwarebytes, then reboot and reinstall it.  After that I'd run chkdsk on my hard drive and let it check for and attempt repair of any bad sectors.

Good luck.

Hi, I had a recycler problem, that I couldn't access my main harddrive, this has now been fixed by Autorun Eater.
I have since installed and run the latest AVG which has also removed a Trojan from the recycler: SHeur2.PEB. And another two of those from other files.

Then I downloaded malwarebytes, but not from their website, as I could not access it, page not found etc, I'm also having problems with the avg/google toolbar btw. I don't want it, lol.
Anyway, when I tried to update malwarebytes it shows me error 273, no connection to the internet.
I have the windows firewall turned off, as it did not allow avg to update either.
I have system restore turned off right now.

I need to update malwarebytes and fix the redirect problem with my firefox browser.
Which has been a problem for a while, I always need to click google links at least twice not to get redirected to totally unrelated pages.
Here is my HJT Logfile, done after the last avg scan.
Please HELP!!

Thanks in advance

Some types of malware will disable Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and other security tools. If MBAM will not run, try renaming it first.Open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files.Right-click on the mbam.exe file and rename it to myscan.exe.Double-click on myscan.exe to launch the program. If that did not work, then try renaming and changing the file extension. <- click this link if you do not see the file extensionOpen the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files.Right-click on the mbam.exe file, rename it to myscan and change the .exe extension to .scr, .com, .pif, or .bat.Double-click on myscan.scr (or whatever extension you renamed it) to launch the program. If using Windows Vista, refer to How to Change a File Extension in Windows Vista.
