Unknown Files Downloaded After Installing Download Accelerator Plus

Q: Unknown Files Downloaded After Installing Download Accelerator Plus

Hi ! I am new to this forum. I am here because I desperately want some advice.
I installed Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) free version 5 days back
After the very first time I used (DAP) and rebooted I found myself to be infected by virus W32/Almanahe.B
I used Avira in safe mode and with system restore turned off. Now Avira scan has no detections
I find these three files in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SpeedBit\DAP\Offers
1. mailinfo30.exe
2. spo3.exe
3. VA22_DAPSO.exe
I have never asked these files to be downloaded. Dont know how they got there. Are these viruses ?
I have Toshiba Satellite. Windows XP Home SP3. Intel Core2 Duo 1.8Ghz and RAM, WiFi Internet connection
Anti Virus: Avira Personal edition
Anitmalware: windows defender, Spybot S &D, a-squared

A: Unknown Files Downloaded After Installing Download Accelerator Plus

Sometimes programs like DAP come bundled with other software that users may not know about. For example spo3.exe appears to be related to SpeedOptimizer.Anytime you come across a suspicious file or one that you do not recognize, search the name using Google or the following links:? BC's File Database? BC's Startup Programs Database? ProcessLibrary.com? ThreatExpert Malware Search? File Research CenterAnytime you come across a suspicious file which you cannot find any information, the file has a legitimate name but is not located where it is supposed to be, or you want a second opinion, submit it to jotti's virusscan or virustotal.com. In the "File to upload & scan" box, browse to the location of the suspicious file and submit (upload) it for scanning/analysis.-- Then post back with the results of the file analysis.

I've done this before, and have searched, searched, and searched and can't find a way to do it again.
For example, I was downloading updates for Studio MX this morning. Only 2 downloads at a time would be active, and the rest would just sit there waiting. I know there is a registry tweak to fix this, but I can't find it. Google+Forum Searches=Nothing

----------------------------------------------------------------

And I know that some people who read this thread use download accelerators. I used DAP, but didn't like the ads. I used FlashGet, but didn't like the ads. Anyone else know of a good accelerator/leecher?

Hi Atomic Taco

You can download a file to do this for you here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Scroll down to line 55, right side of column.

Or, manually edit the Registry using the steps here:
http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/tune-120.html

Finally found the actual Microsoft article on this:

Let us know if that works for you.

Hi All,
I need help.
I have Download Accelerator Plus Ver8.5.
I wanted to download about 6 html files, the links of which are in a single page.
I used "Download All with DAP" option. All html files are downloaded. No problems.

But after downloading of each file, the html file is opened in a new IE window.
which means 6 new IE windows opened which I don't want.
Also I noted in the address bar of IE that the html address is the URL of internet and not the local folder address.

Another important aspect is when I use this feature to download multiple pdfs or pictures, this auto opening of files after download is not happening.

The issue is only with html files.

I am planning to download about 36 html files from a single web page.I don't want to see 36 new IE windows in my desktop.

Is there any way to disable this hindrance?

Thanks
R Balaji

A:Download Accelerator Plus Auto opening files

dialup download accelerators for the most part are a complete waste of time.
Also stop using IE. Get a better and safer browser like firefox or mozilla suite.

First noticed a problem when I downloaded an MP3 file from Amazon and it was deleted during the download security scan because it "contained a virus."  I figured it was a problem with Microsoft Security Essentials definitions so I went to Windows Update to see if there was an update.  Instead, I noticed that the latest MSE definitions update failed with error 0x80070643.  I also realized that MSE was not running as I expected.

Searching for that error code led me down a path that indicated I was infected with some type of malware.  I tried to restart MSE and it would not restart due to 'Access is denied' error.  Looking at running processes showed that there was a suspicious "iexploror.exe" running and that the folder "C:\Microsoft_SDK" contained the questionable file.

Ran MalwareBytes, which found some problems, and let it remove the files in question.  MSE still would not restart.  Then downloaded and ran HitmanPro, which also found some problems so I let it remove the files in question...seemingly the same files MB removed.  Once this was completed, MSE would now start and update to latest definitions.

On reboot, a command prompt opened up and indicated that C:\Microsoft_SDK\iexploror.exe could not be found so I knew everything wasn't resolved.  Running msconfig.exe showed a .js file and mssecex.exe on the Startup tab.  'Erased' those files, disabled the startup items, and tried to delete the... Hi I'm running XP pro with sp3 on a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop.

In the last 24 hours I've tried to download and install an Nvdia video card driver and Win media player 11 on my desktop by downloading them on my laptop. Both downloads where from the official software vendor sites.

Can download the files without any problem, but cannot install them....

...the error message mentions 'cannot unpack cab files - a lack of disk space - file maybe corrupted'. This is both on my laptop and my desktop (which isn't connected to the internet - XP pro sp2)

Notably xp isn't recognising the 'publisher' on new downloads but does on older downloads.

I've uninstalled all xp updates backdated till the 13/01/2010 - but with no success. I have also ran CCleaner, XP_Fix logon, Lavasoft, and a full Avira scan. Problem remains?

Any help appreciated
thanks dom

I am a novice but am assuming I have or had a bug that altered my hard drive.  I ran AVG and and vaulted anything suggested I also cleared all cookies and cleaned the recycle bin.  Everything seems to be running fine now EXCEPT that anything I try to download or run seems to be disappearing.
I regularly download zip files with pictures for work via YouSentIt.  Now when I download I get the usual dialog box, pick where I want the file to download and it looks like it completes the process.  Then I open my picture file and the download is not there.

Please don't suggest I download a file...because I can't! I've tried so many forums that give links to download and nothing happens.  I even tried in safe mode and still unable to do anything!

Please HELP! I dont know what to do next.

Thank you!

Hello, recently my computer has experienced incredibly reduced download speeds, to the point where it reached a low of about 300 bytes. My average download speed is between 2-3 megabytes. Also, when attempting to download anything from Google, upon opening the file i get an error message stating the file is corrupt, or the file simply doesn't download at all. I've ran multiple PC scans and cleanings to no avail. Attached is a log after I scanned my PC with Hijack-this, a program i have never used before which warned me to seek professional help before fixing any files, which brought me here. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance for your time.

A:Unable to open downloaded video files from download library.

Google "convert FLV to MPEG" without the quotation marks.
You should find a free converter at cnet in the first entry.
Don't forget to watch the install carefully to UNcheck the install of any "extras".

Hi,

When I click on an e-mail attachment, the download window opens, and the progress bar completes, but, the nothing opens.

Similaraly, when I try to press 'run' in the download window for install functions, the progress bar moves, but, nothing happens. For example, I was trying to download Mozilla, but, when pressing run, it bar progresses, but then, nothing.

This is weird (and maybe it will tell you want you need to know to answer), when I press SAVE on the download screen instead of run, and I specify a folder location and name, the progress bar progresses, but then, THE FILE IS NOT IN THE DIRECTORY???

What's my problem. I've disabled pop up blockers, and have entirely disabled windows security. Also, I DO have administrator rights.

Thank you!!!!

I just bought my PC yesterday and I've spent at least an hour today trying to install google chrome. It will download every time I try but when I press run on the tab at the bottom of the screen it will try to install then when it is finished it says google chrome could not install due to an unknown error. I have tried restarting my laptop, downloading both the 64 bit and 32 bit versions for windows 10 and nothing has changed. Each time it just won't install due to an "unknown error." Please help, I have been using chrome for years and everything I use is run through google.

Hi
found your site very useful in getting rid of about:blank, thanks for that. I have a new one for you, when I run spybot it shows me the following:
DSO exploit
Download Accelerator Plus Ads
SearchForIt

It says it fixes DSO and SearchForIt although they are found again when I run spybot for a second time (this also happens with Ad Aware SE), but only fixes 1 out of 8 issues with Download Accelerator Plus Ads. It tells me to run Spybot again at start up but this still fails to solve the problem. Also got this heinous 108search assitant silver tool bar stuck to IE that I can't get rid of. Tried removing it in add/remove programs, it's gone from the list but still in IE

CWShredder gives me a clean bill of health and I don't know what to delete from Hijack This. I have all the updated software you guys reccomend and have tried various combos but I am running out of hair to rip out. I'm running XP. I have included the HT report below.
Thanks for your help with this.

hello everybody
i am using DAP 5.3.
i was downloading a linux.iso file. this DAP divided the file into 7 diff parts. now what has happened is 6 files has been comlpeted and 7th file only 6MB is remaining. now it is not connecting to any of the linux server. and this problem is with this file only. i can start new download from servers. have any of u faced this prob b4.

what is was thinking is taking backup of partially downloaded file and re-install DAP and then try to complete the file. can anyone tell me where does DAP saves its uncompleted files????

plzz do not suggest me to switch to another app or re-download coz i cannot download above 5.5KBs . so can imagine how much time it will take to download 650MB file.

anyways i am switching to Reget which is a very good app. after this is completed

A:Download Accelerator 5.3

Open DAP, go to Downloads, then Options/Configurations. In the left-hand pane, choose "Save To." That should tell you where it saves the partial files.

Have you tried uninstallin, then reinstalling the program?

If so, you may want to get OLEPRO32.DLL here:

However, just make sure you haven't got it anywhere on your system, by going to Find Files.

Its usually in c:\windows\system32

A new RC version of DAM is posted on official site.
Download Accelerator Manager - Fastest Download Manager!
Previously 2x speed was there in the free version. Now free version gives 10x speed. It seems clear of craps i.e no ads, popups, etc... And looks like IDM & good.

Anyone using DAM? Share your experience plzz.
I dont see much about DAM on the internet. Is DAM safe & trusted to use? If its safe to use will give it a try.
I tried under Shadow Defender & dont like that it requires .Net 3.2.

A:Download Accelerator Manager

It's safe and trusted. I didn't like it before because of it's 2 threads limitation and that of it's poor media download capability. Also it's free and paid software model, when there are plenty of better totally freeware alterantives like EagleGet, XDM, Download Ninja and FDM. I might check this version out.

NVIDIA says I should disable download accelerators before downloading a driver update. How do I disable the download accelerator that Mozilla says is incorporated in FireFox? (op. system = XP Home)

A:download accelerator -- disabling

FF does not have a built in download accelerator that I know of, but there are download accelerator add ons available.

If that is the case, you can disable any addon by clicking "Tools' and selecting "Add-Ons' from the drop down menu. Click the "Extensions" button at the top of the window and any installed plug-ins will be listed. If you find a download accelerator, just click the "Disable" button. You will have to restart FF in order for the change to take effect. There is a button In the window to do that. FF will close and the reopen all by itself to the site you were open to when it closed.

I downloaded this and installed it and I liked it a little, but one day (I guess I was sleepy or or really stupid) I made it the default download manager. I do not want it to be the default manager but I wouldn't mind having it for when I have to download patches and demos for games I play, it help the speed a little.

Anyway, I unistalled it and re-installed it and it was still the default download manager, does anyone know how I can turn it off so that it's not the download manager. Thanks in advance.

A:(Solved) Download Accelerator Plus

Hi.

I have DA also but have not used it since going onto a DSL Connection. However I just ran it to see how it could be configured. If you click Downloads > Options / Configurations - uncheck all the options. Then depending which version of Win you are using try Start > Run > type MSCONFIG and click on Startup - from there look for and remove any entries for DA. You will need to reboot for this to take effect - but it should then never even run unless you specifically run it from the Start Menu.

If you find it still does then post back here.

A:What is the best download manager or accelerator?

What do you need a download manager for? There are plenty of free download managers out there, especially for Firefox (which has loads of extensions).

I don't believe download accelerators really speed up downloads (unless a server is limiting you). Nonetheless, Firefox has those too.

Hi Y'all,
I've been really thinking, which download manager/accelerator is the best? I've tried DAP (Download Accelerator Plus), also tried Internet Download Manager and Free Download Manager but can't really say if I'm satisfied with 'em or not. My criteria borders mainly on speed (how many connections they can open to an independent server), and of course resumability of paused/interrupted downloads. Any ideas guys??? Gotta be malware free toooo. Thanks in expectation of your responses.

I have a LONG download queue in my DAP program, and in order to do things efficiently (multiple ongoinging tasks simultaneously) I want to download my files while I watch a long movie on my PC. However every time one d/l finishes the new download brings up the DAP dialogue box which interrups the movie and I must manually minimize it each time (a REAL pain.) Is there a feature in DAP which will let me watch my video without these constant interruptions while I am downloading with DAP? Thanks in advance.

How do i get DAP to scan a file for viruses after it downloads it.
I use AVG7 for virus scanning.
In DAP under Options, in the 'Command Line Parameters' window I have tried /SE as recommended by AVG7. I have also specified avgw.exe as the 'Antivirus Executable'.
All I get is the AVG7 Control Centre window after a file is downloaded.

I used the same parameters in FreshDownload and had no problems, the files were scanned automatically after downloading.

Hi Guys! Please does anybody know which of the various download accelerators/managers would work fastest esp for dial-up connections? Any reasonable contribution would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

A:Fastest Download Manager/accelerator

even if you use download managers and accelerators your speed would not change because whatever speed limit given to you by your ISP, this is what you will always get, sometimes less or sometimes a little more. accelerators are only used to duplicate or mutiply your download segments as if you have 2 or more different machines downloading, and can only be used if the server where the files are hosted limits download rates or have slow service.

Just click on the Stop Google Web Accelerator menu item. Note that when Google Web Accelerator is turned off, the Google Web Accelerator icon in the system tray goes away. To restart Google Web Accelerator, either go to the Google Web Accelerator Toolbar menu and click Start Google Web Accelerator or select Google Web Accelerator in your Windows Start menu.

If you've made the Google Web Accelerator Toolbar invisible in IE, to access its icon menu you'll have to make it visible again by clicking on View > Toolbars > Google Web Accelerator from your main browser menu toolbar.

Hi there
After spending 2hrs on the phone yesterday to my ISP trying to work out why I was only getting speeds 6-7 mbps instead of 24 (with the resultant answer being "Telstra cabling") I installed DAP 9.3.0.3 & Speedbit (as suggested in a current PC magazine)

I then decided DAP was too complicated, not really necessary for our household (majority music torrents) & uninstalled both (using Revo uninstaller). I seem to be stuck with a speedbit task bar + internet access (ADSL2+) appears to be even slower since installing these? (seems to load 90% then pause for a while?)

I've looked at a couple of forums (yours was recommended in same magazine ). Have downloaded & run HiJackthis log & deleted a couple of "no name" & "speedbit" toolbar entries (RO & 03 registry entries) based on forum responses) but got cold feet after that!

System was "clean" (AVG,Spybot, Malwarebytes & Ad-Aware) prior to above installs. Have attached HKT Log as starting point (not sure if necessary)

Any help much appreciated?

I recently downloaded the Download Accelerator Manager program to help me manage my downloads (especially large files which are liable to stop mid-download so that I could resume them). Part of the download was that it places the program symbol hovering above the taskbar where the wireless connection and sound setting utilities are by default. While it is not necessarily an issue, it is really unsightly and just simply a nuisance. Any suggestions on how to remove this icon?

uninstall it from windows. DAP is a joke, don't bother. You can't speed up most new 56K baud modems, they already have built in compression on the card itself.

My brother's laptop is a Toshiba w/ a 2.8GHz P4 and 512MB RAM running WinXp. I installed an old version of Download Accelerator Plus and it seemed to be working fine. Then he started complaining that he couldn't download files from websites or P2P programs -- it just gives an error that DAP couldn't be loaded. So I checked it out and his computer got infected w/ Search Extender and Home Shopping Assistant. I found instructions online and spent most of the day yesterday cleaning it up, and I'm pretty sure that I got rid of Search Extender and HSA. But I was still having the same problems w/ DAP. Apparently he uninstalled DAP, so I reinstalled it and noticed the GUI was different. It was also hijacking the browser -- in the past, I could always turn it on and off when I wanted, control what filetypes it downloads, etc. But now it's activated any time I tried to download anything. It also asked me if I wanted to update it, which it never did in the past. So I think he updated it and the newer version is much more of a malware program than the old version was.

So I found instructions here:here to remove DAP. They're pretty long and involve a lot of regedit. I cleaned everything up according to the instructions, and while I was in there, I noticed that were some remaining Search Extender entries that contained DAP entries. So that got me thinking... is it possible that Search Extender/HSA hijacked DAP and changed it?

After I followed all the instru... Read more

First I want to emphasize that the program I'm talking about is Internet Download Accelerator and not Download Accelerator Plus (DAP). That being said I've tried everything to get rid of this damn thing but it still keeps trying to catch my downloads even though it's uninstalled. I also want to mention that I've tried many of the suggested fixes that were recommended for DAP but none have worked.

Here's a list of what I've tried so far:
-Uninstalling it using CCleaner and Your Uninstaller
-Re-installing it, rebooting, uninstalling it, and rebooting
-Removing it from the startup list of programs
-Cleaning my registry
-Disabling browser integration (I use Firefox)
-Looking for an option to disable it as my main or default download accelerator/manager (it doesn't have one that I could find)

The only things that have worked are Alt+clicking on whatever I want to download (which is an ok but temporary solution, I'd like to find a permanent one) or using another download manager which overrides it. But neither of those things makes this evil piece of crap go away. I want it removed from my computer.

Also (and maybe I deserve a kick in the pants for asking this) but can anyone recommend a download manager (doesn't have to be an accelerator or whatever) that doesn't contain spyware, and that doesn't automatically intercept all my downloads (i.e. I have to specifically do something in order for it to add something to its downlo... I'm not 100% sure on this, I doubt anyone completely understands intel's labeling but intel.
Largely these are meant for GMA integrated graphics chips though. Based on the release information I would say the 9xx series specifically. It's really hard to say though based just on the release date and ID in the file name.

At the end of the day generally they will simply refuse to install if you don't have the supported hardware though.

The numbered extensions make it sound like one large avi file was split into smaller files for downloading purposes. You will need a file joiner utility program to combine them into a single file before you can play it. There are various free and non-free joiner programs that can be downloaded from the Internet. I have not used them often enough to offer any specific recommendations.

Hello,

For a while now I've been having problems with downloaded files on my computer. There are various problems:
- general: when downloading a file on my computer, it downloads the file fine. The problems starts when executing the file.
Most of the times I get to read an UAC warning that the file I try to execute is from an unknown publicer (which is not the case for many files I execute (cross checked this with a friends computer where the UAC shows the proper publicer)
Sometimes when I execute the file to try install a program I get an error reading the file has been corrupted. This problem continues to excist with new downloads. It has been the case for example for: java; emsisoft anti-malware. However when I download the exact same file from my friends computer and put it on my computer through USB the problems aren't occuring and everything installs fine.
- steam: has problems maintaining a download; every 100-200mb the download stops and tells me the game needs an update. I hit the update button and 100-200mb later the same happens

I don't know how long this problem has been going on. I started noticing it with steam and didn't think much of it. The problem listed with steam sometimes occurs when the servers are busy. My estimated guess is that the problems has been happening for about a month.

Now I've been trying to fix this problem. I've scanned with emsisoft antimalware, malwarebytes anti-malware; mcafee antivirus plus. Almost all of th... Read more

I'm going to help someone install SP2 on their computer in a day or two. He says SP2 downloaded to his computer, he started the install but stopped it almost immediately to backup his files. It didn't install anything. He said he clicked Cancel or Exit to stop it and saw no prompt to save it anywhere, it just stopped and went away.

Where do we look to find the SP2 download? What is it called, and will I know what icon to click on to activate the install process?

A:Where is the SP2 download saved, when it's downloaded but not installed?

Hi,

To give you some back story, I built my computer the end of August 2012. Ran Smoothly. I decided to get a 60 gig SSD to be the partition that stored Windows. I didnt have much stored on the Main HD so I deleted my original 2TB HD and tried installing on the SSD... found that the SSD was bad and sent it back. Decided just to stick with the 2TB HD. Had some issues installing windows back onto the HD as it would just hang up. Finally managed to get windows installed, had some "Not genuine" issues but that resolved after multiple restarts. That brings me to where I am at today and I feel as though the system has been getting worse. I would normally be fine with just a clean install but with all the issues I had with that initially I am very skeptical of trying it again. I have 5 important updates and 7 optional updates all of which do not install. The Installer just sits on Downloading updates and I have left it overnight with still no result. I am not sure if this is even my main issue but I am beyond the point of figuring it out myself so any help would be appreciated

I downloaded the System Readiness Tool and it Ran. I tried running the sfc /scannow in Admin cmd prompt mode and get a "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation" I attached my CBS file. Any help you could give or guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

A:Windows Updates Not Installing : Error Unknown (Sits on Installing)

Hello and welcome Faticus just as matter of interest why did you give up on the SSD? was not it under warranty?

That is heck of a drive to be installing on mate just how did you prepare it for the install?

You can run a chkdsk in Windows too > My Computer > right click on the drive > Properties > Tools > Check now - then follow the points in my pic.
You then reboot and it will start a chkdsk (in DOS).

Hello, Please help me. I have Windows 2000 Professional. I'm pretty new to all this as I have only had a computer for about a week. I got some adware threats detected by Norton Antivirus 2004 and have done a lot of reading up and I am now tring to delete them.

One of the removal instructions provided by Norton promps me to delete a file in C:\Winnt\Downloaded Program Files but when I go to view this folder it looks like there are no files inside. Now, I know there are files in there as Norton Antivirus has picked up one in there and when I view the proporties for that folder it states there are 12 files inside but when I view the folder with Windows Explorer it appears empty!

I've gone into folder option and changed the settings so it shows hidden files and hidden system files yet this still doesn't let me view the files in this folder. How can I delete this file if I am unable to view it?

If anyone can point me to a turorial that explains this or explain it to me I would really appreciate this.

Please help a n00b.

Cheers, Luke.

A:Unable to view files in C:\Winnt\Downloaded Program Files

I'm assuming you have done this to Show hidden files and folders:
Go to Control Panel/Folder Options/View and select "Show hidden files and folders"

Also, place a check in "Display the contents of system folders"
And,uncheck "Hide protected operating system files(Recommended)"

If the above doesn't work try this:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced.
Create the REG_DWORD ShowSuperHidden (if it doesn't already exist) Set the value to 1, click OK, and close the Registry editor

I loaded up explorer and opened up my C:/ drive to start a game in my program files, accidentally pressing "Downloads" finding this file there, my operating system is Swedish so the folder should be named "Hämtningar" (Swedish for downloads). The file is 93 kb in size and was created on the 27th january, there is also an account named "Unknown account(S-1-5-21-a bunch of numbers)" with total control, I also have no ability to remove it. Hi. I have downloaded a legal program but don't understand how to install it. The instructions said to extract the rar file which I've done but no joy. The instructions seem to assume some knowledge! I have the following files: an nfo file, 21 files named *.r00, *.r01 etc, an sfv file and a rar file which I have extracted...there are now a bin file and a cue file in an extracted files folder. What on earth do I do next? Please can someone help me with step by step instructions for a complete dummy !! Thanks.

So at the beginning of this week, the Outlook 2003 installed on our computer began re-downloading the same two messages from our server again and again, bringing them in about every 5 minutes. It also does not download any message that we have received since those two emails.

Outgoing messages still send normally.

I was able to access the webmail client for our server, so we can get to our messages (and I deleted the two two repeaters to keep them from constantly showing up) but we really need to be able to get Outlook working as it is an office account that gets a lot of traffic.

I have checked the account settings in Outlook, and everything (server name, port #, etc) seems to still be correct so I don't think the problem is there. Running "Test account settings" reports that everything is working. I'm also not aware of any changes to our computer before this started happening, so I'm stumped as to why this started happening. The problem continues if I try It with the firewall and antivirus software turned off so I don't think that the cause is interference from either of those (although perhaps it is in a way I'm not seeing).

Does anybody have any advice? Thanks in advance.

A:Outlook 2003 downloaded repeat messages, won't download more

Try running the Detect and Repair function in Outlook to see if there are any problems. Has the problem returned after you deleted the emails from the webserver?

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium

I recently got this Samsung R440 laptop and I've been having trouble installing downloaded programs, (ex. AOL IM, iTunes).
Itunes won't even appear when I run the installer. AOL will say "NSIS Error: Error Launching Installer".

I've tried numerous things: run as admin, cmd.exe (force install), and changed .exe into .msi. I'm wondering if this may be a problem with the registry, however I've even used Registry Cleaner with no luck.

Does anyone have a solution? Do you need to look at my cmd.exe (/ stat)? hijack this? anything else?

Thanks.

I would check for:
1. Viruses (Microsoft Security Essentials is FREE for home and small-business use)
2. Integrity of system files
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Option TWO, point three (3.)

There is also an interesting FREE solution by Kaspersky Labs called GetSystemInfo Parser 2.96
It troubleshoots with the report:

Installation Issues
Activation Issues
Computer has become slow
Update Issue
Web Browsing Issues
Blue Screens
Malware

Hello experts,

I have a unique problem. I have a PC with windows vista installed. I recently bought windows 7 home premium and installed a fresh copy of it. Every time I download some software like Chrome, VLC, iTunes , it downloads fine, but when it has to install it gives starnge errors. I have seen all kinds of errors.
eg: VLC gives NSIS error.
Microsoft Security Essentials gives "File Corrupt Error".
got certificate invalid error for some other software. if I download zip files, they fail with CRC check

Just to be sure t wasnt hardware issue, I installed vista as a second OS and that works fine. I am really uncertain what is causing the issue(seems network related though).

I had an old router and just purchased a new linksys router. other configurations are:
Core 2 Quad, EVGA SLI ready motherboard, 4GB DDR2 ram, ASUS EN210 gphx card.

I am really lost as what can be the issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.

thank you.

Recently I have been trying to download trial versions of video editing software. With two of them the download finishes, but when I run the installation process I am informed that some of the downloaded files are corrupt. I have sought help on the relevant help forums but am always told to keep repeating the downloads until the installation finally works. I have done this many times (with my anti-virus on and off) but without any luck. The third trial downloaded successfully (like the others) but when I click on the application in order to install it, nothing happens. There is obviously a problem on my computer but I don't know what it is.

My daughter's Dell 8400 PC went blue screen. Since the hardware tested OK, I reinstalled XP from CD, downloaded and installed SP3 and other security updates (making it current), then reinstalled Office 2007 and updated it online. Since she had no CD for the driver for her HP 5150 printer (installed via USB port), I went to the HP website and downloaded a driver for it. I see it on the hard drive, but I know of no way to install it. MSFT repeatedly recognizes its presence and offers to help install a driver, but expects it to be on a CD drive, and complains about not finding it there. I guess that I could burn a CD to contain the driver (which is at the end of a sequence of about 6 subdirectories). But is there another way to skin this cat? Thanks.

Where do downloaded updates go to before installation takes place?
I'm getting truckloads of updates downloaded but they won't install; the process begins and then locks up. Is there a file I can empty or delete and start again?

A:installing downloaded updates (RESOLVED)

I would make sure that all spyware/adware is removed before attempting to install an update. Run programs like Adaware and spybot before installing windows updates. These programs can sometimes hault the update process.

A:Mac Downloaded Rar Expander from download cnet Now crhome acting strange

Good evening.
Cnet has been guilty in the past of creating custom installers that come with bundled software as well as the original program that you were expecting. You may be able to uncheck the appropriate box if you use the custom install method but by default you may not have a choice.
It's a little late to say "don't use Cnet", but don't use Cnet - sorry!

Please go here, follow the instructions as best you can skipping those that you cannot run for any reason, and then start a new thread and post accordingly.
Please include a brief description of your problem in the new thread, just to keep everything in one place, and somebody will be along as soon as they can to help.

I have Windows 7 32 bit OS. The PC runs well and I have checked the memory and keep the machine clean from viruses and garbage using Advanced System Care and Avast. Here is what happens. I download a software program and when the download completes, I click on run and the little blue circle starts as if it is beginning the install.
This hangs up forever unless I hit ctrl-alt-delete and then the window comes up to allow the program to continue. Closing out the ctrl-alt-delete window, the program continues and installs as it should. I have never had to go through these steps before and am stumped as to what is causing this and why? Any help or suggestions are most appreciated.

A:A puzzling glitch with installing downloaded programs

I'm not saying this is the solution, but I always download software and save it before I install it.

This serves two purposes:

1. You can scan the software for viruses before you install it.

2. You have a copy that you can re-install should you ever re-install Windows.

You say you are using Advanced System Care and Avast. Are they both anti-virus programs? If so, you need to ditch one of them because running two A/V programs at the same time can cause problems.
