Error Message 0x80070005 critical error - windows will close in one minute

Q: Error Message 0x80070005 critical error - windows will close in one minute

I recently have been getting the Error message Windows has encountered a critical error and will close in one minute.
I do not have the Brazilian financial Active X control that became corrupted, or if I do, I cannot find it. I have Vista 32-bit on an Acer Aspire laptop. This message comes up after I login and I can either access the Internet via Safe mode w/Networking, or do a System Restore, at which time the laptop works for about two or three times and then the error message comes back.
Do I have a bug? Please help!!!!

A: Error Message 0x80070005 critical error - windows will close in one minute

I followed the preparation guide and when I tried to run dds.scr, the black screen came up really fast and then disappeared and nothing ever came up. When I tried to run RootRepeal.exe, I was able to tell it to scan, but then I never received a report. When I tried to run it again, it said that I didn't have permission, and when I tried to delete it, it said the same thing! I am the administrator...I have Vista 32bit and I am getting the error code 0x80070005 windows has encountered a critical error and will now close. I run system restore to get it to stop, but that only works a few times, and then I get the error message again.
What do I do now??

Hi,

My machine had a virus attack. I used the instructions for Anti-malaware bytes and tried to remove it. Now the machine shuts down as soon it is started. I get an error message saying, "windows has encountered a critical error and will close in one minute". That happens in all the different modes, safe, safe with networking, normal etc and happens with internet on or off.
I am not able to run any logs as recommended by you because I don't get enough time to run anything. The machine boots and just shuts down.

Please help. I have humongous amount of data, that I can't even access because of this issue.

Thanks

On Tuesday morning around 8:15 I got a little dialog box that stated (as close as I can recall) that Windows had encountered a critical problem and would restart in one minute, and that I should save my work. When I clicked my start button I saw that the restart option was grayed out, so I just had to sit there and wait for the restart to happen. Once it did and the computer was back, everything seemed normal. I looked in the Event Viewer and the nearest thing I could find to a cause was something about lsass.exe having stopped working. Also, later I noticed in the Windows update control panel that Windows Defender had updated itself at 8 AM that morning (at least according to my OS).

Relevant details: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit- I was running Firefox, iTunes and Steam at the time. My antivirus program is avast! free version. Everything is updated. My version of Java was one revision out of date (7 update 4 instead of 5--since fixed). I use FoxIt Reader and not Adobe so that's not a vector. I ran a full Malwarebytes scan and found nothing. Also ran TDSSkiller.exe and found no problems.

There has been no strange behavior since the forced reboot, and there were Windows updates installed yesterday, and everything seems to be behaving properly, but on another forum I frequent someone said this might be a rootkit, so I'm paranoid. Is there something I can do to be sure?

A:Win7 "critical error" restarting in 1 minute message--infection?

It looks like ZeroAccess rootkit. Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic. If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Just this afternoon, I went to use my PC and got the following error; Windows has experienced a critical error and will restart in 1 minute.

Running Windows 7 64 bit....With automatic updates so it should be the latest version of Windows...

My anti virus (Avira 2012 Internet Suite) pops up and states I have 2 viruses. But before the AV can do anything (delete the files) Windows shuts down....I finally got into Safe Mode and tried running my AV, while it was scanning I then got a BSOD. Had to start all over again; Running MalwareBytes now before trying to do the AV scan, just to see if MalwareBytes catches anything.

I have uninstalled the only application I've installed in 3 months, and problem still persists...

I have a Hijackthis log if it needs to be viewed...Just let me know and I'll upload it.

A:Windows has a critical error and will reboot in 1 minute

when you get the 1 minute warning, try typing from the start menu "shutdown -a" or "shutdown /a", and the countdown should go away, and you should be able to remove the viruses.

Be sure to disable your system restore backups (delete them), or the viruses may come back. Re-enable them as soon as you are sure you have gotten rid of the viruses.

Hi. I have recently had a few problems with my laptop which is only a couple of months old. A few days ago I received numerous warnings about Trojan threats through Windows Defender. My AVG scanner is not working (looking into this) so I am not yet certain if there is a real threat on my computer.

Anyway, starting yesterday and continuing today, when starting my laptop, I receive an error message saying that there has been a 'critical error' and that the laptop will restart in 1 minute. This morning, I received this message 4 times in a row and only on my 5th restart did I not get the message.

I have no idea whether this error is linked to Trojan threats or anything else but it is very worrying for me, seeing as my laptop is new.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Windows has encountered a critical error and will restart in one minute?
my computer says this each time it is started in normal start-up mode. I recently got the Doctor Malware virus and I downloaded the anti malware software to get rid of it but i cant update it or even find out if it did anything because now every time i try to start up in normal mode i get the message "windows has encountered a critical error and will restart in one minute" and it restarts.
also, i've already tried a system restore
also, unfortunately, i cant even run safe mode with networking. so no internet.
i tried a couple registry cleaner. it seemed to find and fix a lot stuff but then when i restarted the computer and it still shut down right away.

A:Windows has encountered a critical error and will restart in one minute?

Try getting to safe mode and do the following:
Just turn on your computer with F8 pressed.

Choose Safe Mode option.

Logon using your Administrator level user.

Next, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run...

Type MSCONFIG and click OK.

Go to the SERVICES tab and search for Gbp Service.

Uncheck it and click OK.

Restart and see if the problem is gone.

Thanks in advance for your help. It appears I have randomly picked up a virus of some sort wherein whenever I am connected to the internet, my computer gives the "Windows Has Recovered From a Critical Error and Will Restart in One Minute. Please Save your Work Now." message, and my computer restarts as the message states. I have run adaware and malwarebytes' antimalware with mixed results, and downloaded a windows malware removal tool, but none have completely eliminated the problem. I can turn the internet off via a switch on my netbook (it is a HP Mini 110-1100 with Windows 7 Starter), and when I have that turned off before I log in, the computer works as normal, but of course the internet is a much-needed tool. I'm not sure if I have a virus or just a corruption of something, but I get a constant looping of Windows beginning to open after I log in then shutting down and restarting back to the login page.  I was able to do F8 and get into the System Recovery Options.   I ran the Farbar Recovery Scan and have the FRST.txt log and the Search.txt logs, included.

I've been having memory shortage issues and really don't know in what state my backups are in (the backups ate up so much space I ended up deleting things I probably shouldn't have), so I'd really like to try to get into the system and do some data backups somehow.  I should have a running backup of my basic work files on my D drive via an online backup, but I don't have anything set to backup online on my C drive (mostly program files reside there, I keep most user data on my D).  Can I backup files somehow even if I can't run Windows?

Please advise on recommended steps for both data recovery (if possible) and virus removal.

THANKS!

Yesterday, while using my computer, my anti-virus 'Microsoft Security Essentials' popped up stating it had found a virus. Within a second, a windows update window popped up with an update ready to install, followed immediatly by 'AntiSpyware Doctor' and a window saying 'Windows has encountered a serious error and will shut down in one minute' which it then proceeded to do. This continues to appear everytime the computer is started.

Starting the computer in safe mode allowed me to use Malware Bytes to eliminate Antispyware docter, as it no longer appears when starting the computer, however the error message ,above, still continues. I believe the problem occurs only when the computer is connected to the internet as it does not occur if i am able to stop my computer from automatically connecting to the internet upon startup.

I tried a system restore, however it fails and reports a problem with a file in the drivers folder in the system 32 folder. I am unable to interact with this file at all as the computer tells me it is unable to find the source disc whenever i try.

I have access to a Windows Install disc.

Hi all,

My father is having desktop eMachine with Windows vista 32 bit home. AMD dual core some kind of from eMachine. There was some problem that his pc was getting slower and slower. So I did check his PC but there was no problem found on it as I have scanned it with Norton latest version which is installed on the same machine. Logs were clean. Also having SPYBOT on it. It was showing all clean logs. I have decided to install Microsoft security Essential with that as I did not find any virus/malware prob. As I have been using different kind of Antiviruses on different machines in real life with Microsoft Security essential and did not have any Compatibility issues.

But after installing that I found list of viruses Microsoft Security Essential have detected. Which was having same Virus but with different strings. sirefef.r

It quarantined almost half but then System gave Critical Error Msg and gave msg that it will restart in one minute. every time when I start it will restart in 1 minute. Then I have tried safe mode but it worked for twice only then it started giving same error in SAFE MODE too and restarted.

Now Its not giving Safe mode option. Its directly showing a screen and says 'Other user' And asking for ID and Password. Its ridiculous. Because there is no ID and Password set for the system.. Not even for ADMIN purpose as its f... Read more

Did this always happen, or is this something new? If it just happened, did it occur after a Windows update, or you updating a driver? Try restoring your computer to a date before any of this occurred. Does this address the problem?

Hi..I just bought a refurbished computer. Its an HP Desktop Computer COMPAQ 6005 PRO Phenom II X3 3.0 GHz 4 GB 250 GB HDD Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit .

In order to install windows for the first time on this refurbished machine, I have to choose "system restore" at boot.
It starts to go through the process of installing windows, then I get this message : "Windows Restore Critical Failure. This can be caused by a missing Windows image".
Anyone know how I can fix this. I cant get into windows, because I first have to install it using the system restore. So the only computer access I have, is when it boots up.

I have tried to contact Newegg...which is where I bought it, but no luck. All repairs and service is through the warranty company...cant get in touch with them either.

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks.

A:HELP!! error message: windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.

You've definitely got some nasty malware on your system there. Please click on and follow the directions in the 5 Steps link in my signature below to scan your system for malware and to post a Deckard's System Scanner log in the HijackThis forum section. Unfortunately we cannot advise about HijackThis logs in the XP section.

As far as the explorer error, if you have a Windows XP CD you can insert the cd and then go to Start > Run and type "cmd" w/o quotes. Then type in "sfc /scannow" without quotes to run the Windows File Checker. It will check the system files on your PC and if they have been altered they will be replaced with a copy from your XP cd.

Definitely follow the 5 steps link in my signature below though. You've got some nasties on your system.

I tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate and right after the big white window that says it's completing the installation, I get some error message that basically blinks on my screen so fast that I cannot read it. Also, I checked event viewer and see no recorded errors. The O/S completes installation and lets me use it just fine, but I am worried about this error since I have no glue what it says. It takes me about a half hour to regenerate the error message. I am using an IDE drive with a 10GB partition. I have tried deleting and reformatting it several times. Every time I installed the O/S, I get this error.

( I included a picture of the message, but I recorded it from a crappy camera and unfortunately the image is blurry, but maybe it looks familiar to someone..? )

Hi, everybody. I downloaded Windows 10 from the the Microsoft site, because I had reserved a free copy. I had Window 8.1 before this.

Up till now, it seems that most things worked fine. I tweaked it a little and allowed the new program to "get used to my desktop." After first being unable to transfer stuff over, Windows 10 finally began complying with requests for switching things, etc.

A brand-new problem has begun with the Start icon, which is the Micro "flag" at the lower left of the screen. Every time I hit it in order to sign off, I get a message..... "Critical Error. Your Start Menu button isn't working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in." It offers me a box to sign off within the error message, fortunately. I went on line and found that a number of people are experiencing this same problem. And many of their concerns are directed to others in the Microsoft Community website. By the way, it doesn't happen all the time, only most of the time. When it doesn't happen, it seems to be because I've cleared by temporary files, emptied my trash bin, and deleted the adware that has accumulated with each use. If I'm lucky, that is.

Another thing I've noticed. I use Superantispyware, among other malware detectors. I've used it for XP, 8.1 and now 10. Each time it has picked up a bit more adware and minor spyware. But, recently, I have found that when I'm done PC-ing and ready to shut down, af... Read more

A:(Resolved) Critical Error Message

One or two links here indicate there may be conflcts with installed programs, for example gravis.

http://groups.google.com/groups?q="CoInitialize(NULL)+failed+&hl=en

You can also try disabling dma mode in the cd-rom device manager properties>settings page, although it did not work for one person who tried it. It does sometimes resolve install problems.

Check with the vendor's support to see if there are any known install conflicts that would produce that error.

I was on my laptop today when I got a blue screen and my wallpaper changed to say that I have a critical warning. The exact desktop message reads: "YOUR SYSTEM IS INFECTED! System has been stopped due to a serious malfunction. Spyware activity has been detected. It is recommended to use spyware removal tool to prevent data loss. Do not use the computer before all spyware removed."I managed to get rid of the desktop message (using AntiVir until the scan stopped for no apparent reason. The scan did not complete and I can't get it to scan again.) Under Desktop, the "critical_warning" file still appears in the list. The current wallpaper is the blue screen without the message written out above and I can't change it because this Desktop/Background page is locked up.My homepage was changed (to google, oddly). I cannot access system restore, nor can I use Malewarebytes or other antivirus programs because I get a message that reads: "Windows cannot access the specified file. You may not have permissions to access the item." I have AntiVir PE Classic, which also won't fully run (it starts scanning, then stops).Fortunately, I have a desktop so that I can post here and try to resolve the problem. Would someone please walk me through fixing this problem? Thank you very much!Edit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

it installs just fine and says i need DirectX version 7.0 or higher, which it installs also...and i have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times...

everytime i go to open/play/run the program the screen goes black like it's about to start, then a critical error message pops up that reads: Invalid ID in load header

Hello!
My brothers computer has some serious problem I think
after booting up there is a message poping up which says
"System restored after critical error message"
when looking into details it says
"Problem signature:
BCCode: 100000d1 BCP1: 00000000 BCP2: 00000000C BCP3: 00000000
BCP4: BCP$: 81B84030 OSVer: 5_1_2000 SP: 2_0 Product: 768_1"
I have no idea about these things and dont know if you need anything else.
I reinstalled windows XP several times allready after this error occured but it didnt get better..
so i think it might be some hardware error. it is very hard to work on this pc right now, because the mouse isnt working either and it has gotten damn slow..
The pc is allready 5 years old too.. but he doesnt want to buy a new one, but he would like to buy some new hardware components if necessary. The PC got 1,66 ghz and 256 MB ram.

I allready changed the windows settings so it wont reboot automatically but give me a blue screen instead.
on the blue screen it says:

Technical information:

I just made a hijackthis log too, but im not sure if it is of any help..

Good Afternoon,

So Im fairly adept with computers but I cant seem to solve this problem.

On my VAIO FZN, there seems to be a virus which has taken control of my computer, most likely some sort of rootkit. When the computer starts

it says "You are about to be logged off - Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute. Please save your work now."

after about 3-5minutes. BUT the catch is that this only occurs when the computer has the front LAN switch turned on. when this switch is off it works fine except for that I cant connect to the internet. I have run multiple AV programs which have removed some viruses but obviously not the main problem.
I have also run Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 from my flashdrive which was successful in its scan but since the computer cant get online it wont run the full program (to update), at least I dont think it has.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions,

Thanks so much,
Blake

I have ran numerous anti virus scans and nothing cam up, so I know I am safe, but this icon wont go away. Hi and welcome
Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

A:Messenger Service: Critical Error Message!

Do the pop up advertisements look like the one in the example shown here? If so, it indicates your system is not secure and you should follow the instructions to "Disable Windows Messenger Service". The Messenger service is a network-based system notification service service that transmits net send messages and messages that are sent through the Alerter service between client computers and servers. It should not be confused with Windows Messenger which is a proprietary instant messaging client included in Windows XP, 2000 and 2003 Server.

I had been away for about a month. Before leaving, I had run cCleaner on my Windows XP Pro-SP3 desktop (but don't know whether this caused my current problem.) Upon returning, I tried doing four Microsoft Updates (KB2820917, KB2808735, KB2813170, and KB2813345) from an Administrator account. All failed with Installation Failure, Error Code: 0x80070005.

First, I tried the Microsoft Update Autofix from http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_update.
Issue persists.

Then, I contacted Microsoft Answer Desk; they said it could be Permissions or malware, but did not provide any solutions.

I clicked on the cCleaner backup to restore my registry, but that raised an error message: "Cannot import the file name. Error accessing the registry."

Can someone please help?

Thanks.

Try the following.

Click on the Start orb , type slmgr.vbs  in the Search programs and files.

When slmgr.vbs appears in Search programs and files ring click on it, then click on Run as administrator.

Hey,
I've been attempting to upgrade my Windows Vista Home Basic to Windows 7 home premium but during the process an error occurs saying it cannot create the installation file or something. So i then copied all the files from the disk onto my external hard drive although it couldn't transfer one or two read only files. I then used the external hard drive to upgrade vista to windows 7, i got to the stage of 'copying windows files' but it then came up with the error 'Windows cannot install required files. Network problems may be preventing Windows from accessing the file. Make sure the computer is connected to the network and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070005'. My network was functioning perfectly and i doubt that is the problem. I think it may be something to do with the registries. I have attempt once before to upgrade to Windows 7 but i then got the Black Screen Of Death so i then down graded back to Vista. Now im really desperate to upgrade as my laptop 'HP Pavillion dv6000' is really slow when running Vista. Thanks for the support!

If you want us to check the validity of your license, post an MGADiag report

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/Hardware.aspx

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.
As first steps in your problem installing SP1 (which is probably nothing to do with any non-genuine status) please follow these instructions...

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

CHKDSK C: /R

and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a ... Read more

Since perhaps Thanksgiving, this message has randomly been popping up when I right-click/close an IE window.

It's not a huge problem because it doesn't interrupt my work, but I worry about what it might mean (I don't want IE to suddenly blow up on me and mess up my new computer.) Does anyone know why such a message pops up and what can be done to make it go away? Thanks!

after several years this morning, I got a black screen with a message saying the OS was not genuine. It is I have the retail upgrade disk in front of me. I upgraded from Vista. I tried several of the recommendations in various threads here all to no avail.

The activation application gives the error 0x80070005 "access denied" regardless of whether I try online activation or by phone. I even spent over an hour with MS tech support after I tried to activate by phone. They all agreed that my product key is good and they took remote control and tried a few things that didn't work. I've got a call scheduled tomorrow night with the next level of tech. Also my Office 2010 applications refuse to run with the following error: "...cannot verify license for this product....repair via control panel..." I did that as well and still get the same error. Don't think this is coincidental...

Any advice would be much appreciated. I backed up all "user" files just last night as well (coincident?) I'll start new if I have to but would rather not.

I've been experiencing a particularly frustrating problem since upgrading from Windows 10 Pro v1511 Build 10586.494 to v1607 Build 14388 a few days ago (update: I am now on Build 14390 with the same issue; Build 14393 is downloading now but I suspect it will have the same issue as well). In fact, this is the second time I've installed a preview build since I had the same issue going from Build 10586 to 14385 and decided to restore my backup.

The issue is odd because Windows is otherwise working fine. I have no crashes or stability issues, games, programs and apps all run as expected and the Windows Store is finding updates for apps and games and installing them. The issue relates ONLY to the Windows Store and its apps and games, specifically with the installation of new ones. Windows Update is apparently working fine (although at the moment it is only finding and updating Windows Defender anti-virus definition updates). The problem is if I attempt to install any new Windows Store app or game, where the storage location is anywhere but C: (I have the default apps location under Settings > System > Storage set to H, then they fail after a small sub-1 MB download with error 0x80070005.

What I have determined is the following:

1. If I change the Storage location for apps back to C: (which is my Windows boot drive on an SSD by the way) then new apps and games will download fine, even those which previously repeatedly failed with error 0x800700005 when the location was set... Read more

A:Windows Store error 0x80070005 when using a different location to C:

Regarding the Account_Unknown entries in my opening post, I've seen these accounts in the security permissions of folders on my C drive but they just show as S entries (i.e. with the Account_Unknown() part).

I checked for updates on the Store this morning and it found 6 updates; 5 for apps on my C drive and 1 for Forza Motorsport 6: APEX, which is located on my H drive. Needless to say, all 5 apps on the C drive downloaded and updated fine but Forza again threw up the 0x80070005 error.

This issue is absolutely infuriating me at the moment. I know I could delete Forza and with the Storage location for apps set to C redownload. However, while it would update from my C drive I would be unable to move it to my H drive.

If I try to take ownership of the H:\WindowsApps folder then I get a failed message which, I believe, is due to the actual Microsoft.Apex folder because if I try to manually apply Administrators permissions to that folder then I get an error for every file in the folder.

Can anyone help me with this please?

(P.S. This issue still remains if I restore my v1511 backup for a week or so ago so it may not just be an issue specific to the Insider Preview builds after all.)

When playing online games at Pogo.com (and a couple of other sites)...my XP and Firefox both close down suddenly during the game setup procedure. On Pogo I get as far as the game box with the last ad in it while the game loads but then suddenly either browser will just shut off.
I also noted yesterday that on a site using DirectX control to display I just get the display box with a 3D grid in it instead of whatever was supposed to display in the box.
I downloaded IE7 and didn't like the interface so unloaded it and went back to IE6. This began happening after the unload. So I reloaded IE7 and it is still happening. I have gone back on system restore to a point before all this but the problem is still going on.
Help.

I am suddenly (for a week or so) having problems with outlook.
I get the error message about "a problem" and that outlook "needs to close". If I click on the message to get it off the screen, outlook closes, and the whole cycle repeats in less than a minute, but if I just drag the error message to one corner, I can continue writing and reading and sending e mails.

I haven't changed any firewalls; I am running XP pro on a 3 computer router dsl set up.

My friend has been having some trouble with his Internet Explorer. Everytime he closes an IE window, the Microsoft error window pops up that says "Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close" or something to that effect. Here are a couple of his minidumps. Thank you.

A:IE Error Message Everytime I Close It

Both minidumps crash at ialmdd5.DLL. This is the DirectDraw(R) Driver for Intel(R) Graphics Technology. They also reference rings.exe. Is this the only game that is causing this problem?

Tell your friend to update his videocard drivers. If the problem is only with the War of the rings game. Try uninstalling, and reinstalling the game. also, check with the game manufacturers website for any updates/patches.

Both minidumps have a bugcheck of 8E.

0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler didn?t catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).

I can`t see any reference to IE. Maybe doing a Windows repair as per this thread HERE will solve the IE problem.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post and this problem's got me stumped.

Just replaced my computer with a new one running vista and I get this error message:-

"AXWIN Frame Window:bcont_nm.exe - no disk

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive E:."

Does anyone know what it could mean? I had a similar thing come up in my old computer that ran XP and I'm worried it may be something I've downloaded but my anti- virus scan comes up with nothing. Also, no amount of clicking on the Cancel, Try again or continue buttons within the frame will close it!

Any ideas?

Running uTorrent, you are high-risk for infection. If it wasn't the e-mail, it would have been something else, eventually.

Those are two of the malware. There's probably more. You can always assume that the only executables running from temporary and documents folders are malware.

Hello!

I have been getting a really annoying error lately every time I reboot.

The error message "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" appears a few minutes after start-up.

I click "To see what data this error report contains, click here." and it shows this:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156 ModName: ws2_32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 0000664d

I have run Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware Professional and Trend Micro OfficeScan but i still get the problem whenever I restart my computer.

Although my windows seems to be working properly after I click "don't send report" (due to restore settings?), the error message annoys me every time i restart my computer.

What shall I do to repair the problem? Please let me know if you need my HJT log. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon!

Hello to everyone.

Since Windows 10 1607 update I am driven crazy with this error (0x800070005) which appears when I try to download new app.

Old Windows Store apps are working normally, but I can't download any new one. I tried several solutions I found on internet, without success:
1) powershell and command prompt commands for manual resseting store
2) WSReset.exe
3) that WIndows Repair software that is often mentioned
4) Changing permisions on packages folder, WindowsApps folder etc...

Not a single solution worked. I tried system restore, but once system updates to 1607, it starts again. It is clean Windows 10 install...

Only thing that worked: I made other account, local one. On that account, I logged in Windows Store with my normal account I otherwise use. On that local account, signed only to Windows Store, I can download apps normally. When I return to my standard account, I can install only apps that I downloaded to my local account before - but not other one...

Except reinstalling whole damn thing, migrating account to new one would maybe help... But it is a little too much to do now, so is there any other solution that I maybe missed? I really can not believe that I have to reinvent wheel (to create new my account) just to use damn Windows Store normally?

Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to install the Windows 7 SP1 x64 update and it is failing.  It runs through the install, then shuts down to apply more of the update, runs for quite a while, but ultimately fails.  When Windows restarts, it says the update process failed
with error_access_denied (0x80070005).
I've tried running the SP1 update readiness tool KB947821 and retried the SP1 update but I get the same error.
Microsoft documentation on this error says to try disabling your antivirus.  I'll admit I haven't tried that, simply because the only AV I'm running is MSE -- and I am assuming that Microsoft's own AV is compatible with their service pack.
Any suggestions or advice?  Thanks in advance.
Lawrence

Hi Everyone

Apologies for not including any Log files at this stage, but I would appreciate your thoughts on the following:

I've just installed Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium on a new SSD for my aged Acer Aspire 5920G. Following installation, many updates, including SP1 were automatically added through Windows update.
I then came to Activating, and when it was refused, suddenly realised and remembered (after all these years) that I had in fact purchased a retail version of the Upgrade, and had originally installed it over the top of Vista.

After searching Seven Forums I found and used the work-around binary file, provided on these forums for such a situation. With this I successfully Activated.

After continuing to install s/w and generally set things up, I realised that Windows update was no longer running. I manually set it going, and it has just continued to search for updates for hours without anything else happening. Further investigation using the MS Fixit tool revealed the Error code 0x8007005, (Access Denied, as I've since found out).

I've tried every fix I can find, including SFC Scannow and SubInAcl, without any joy.

Am I correct to assume this has been caused by my clean install of an upgrade version? Can anyone suggest a remedy without me having to start again with a new full copy of Windows 7?

Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions.

I have a problem opening a Word document. I get an error message "The command cannot be performed because a dialogue box is open." So far as I can see there are not any dialogue boxes open.

I tried getting the keyboard shortcut ALT TAB (doesn`t work on my desk top) by following a Windows 7 Forum link but it appears that this facility is not available in Windows 7 Home Premium.

Can you advise me how to either find the Open Dialogue Box, or get rid of this error message ?

Hi there,
I have been having several errors- one being a Blue Screen Error (which has been occuring for probably over a year now, every so often) and another one occuring only on my other account on this computer (which says something along the lines of "Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute.") right after logging in (after some programs have loaded). I never really bothered with resolving the Blue Screen Error because it wasn't that serious to me- though it was very annoying, but this new critical error when I log into my other account is REALLY frustrating to deal with. I am not new to computers and have quite a bit of knowledge about them, so don't worry about holding back any details or technical explanations, I'll probably understand most of it. Install, update and run a full scan with Malwarebytes declining the trial version unless you want to buy it later.

Run SFC /SCANNOW Command to check system file integrity.

If these are clean, go Control Panel>Programs and Features>Windows Features to Turn Off Media Center, reboot, and then Turn it back On from the same place.

Report back results.

Basically when I tried to do a windows update, it downloaded about 5 other updates and installed them, but 2 updates did not download. Instead of "Downloading [updatename]... complete!" it says it failed. I tried to download/install them again after a system restart (had to restart for the updates that DID install) but no luck. I tried disabling my firewall and antivirus and tried again, didn't do anything. The error code is 0x80070005, and it just says to install the update again (which I can't do...). Specifically, the updates are "Update for Windows XP (KB951072)" and "Security Update for Windows XP (KB950974)"

Is anyone else having this problem or have any idea what to do?

First thing this morning, I opened Firefox as usual, and it gave me an alert:

"Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (weather) isn't associated with any program."

I can click OK, or the x-box, or hit escape, as many times as I want, but the dialog box won't close. I have to open Task Manager and end task. But Task Manager doesn't say it's not respoding. Sometimes it just closes it, and other times it tells me Firefox is waiting for a response from me.

I've re-downloaded and reinstalled the program, but it doesn't help.

When shutting down laptop, get Program Failure to Close windows. When I hit end process, it does shut down. I looked up some of the various ones I get (not same every time) and they appear to be part of system32 driver strings - I searched on 2 of them and they were in one of the blogs. 4e8 and 8d8 were 2 of the recent "programs that failed to close. Happens most every time I shut down. Any suggestions?

A:Shutting down get error message program failure to close

Let's find out which specific programs are the problem

Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming procedure, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.
After you've isolated the cause, do not use msconfig to permanently disable the process. Instead, if it is a service go to START - RUN and type: services.msc (then press enter) and disable the service OR, if it a program, you can download & run a simple app such as Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml) to enable, disable, or otherwise manage startup programs.

As suggested from the title I've been battling with this error for a while now.
I am not sure when it started but this Windows 10 installation was a clean one directly from an .iso file from Microsoft meaning no tampering was done with it.
It is a legit activation from the start, so no tampering there either.
My Windows Update works (actual system updates), but any updates/installations regarding Windows Store just refuses to work.
I've tried multiple fixes I've found online:
Relogged in the Store - achieved nothing
Tried wsreset - achieved nothing
Took ownership and tried switching it around multiple times - achieved nothing
Removed registry keys as suggested on another thread - achieved nothing
Tried sfc /scannow - achieved nothing (it did find a dll file it tried to fix regarding gpu drivers but thats another problem in itself)
Tried running apps.diagcab (not the latest diagnostic app but it provided info which the latest one did not)
Interestingly enough it showed a problem:
"Service registration is missing or corrupt"
It ofcourse failed to fix it and now I'm stuck with no idea how to proceed further, I feel like I've tried pretty much everything.

Worthy note: Since the clean install back then I didn't immediately use my email account with the System knowing that it would create a user folder with the name of my email account, so I made a local account and then later just signed in with my email and associated the system with that.
