malwarebytes error 707 (3,0)

Q: malwarebytes error 707 (3,0)

Hi there...I've got a virus because popup are being generated. I had Malwarebytes on the computer but it was throwing a 'can't find, etc' mbam.exe. I did some tracking on your site to: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=29028 but the randomized exe file is throwing a 'error 707 (3,0). AND nothing seems to be working to get around even with Mieke Verburgh Malwarebytes Assistant Director of Research suggestions. I see that there is a current post on the forum but no answer yet. HELP.

A: malwarebytes error 707 (3,0)

Actually looked around and found the SUPERAntiSpyware is catching the vundo ... think I may have got it.

Not sure whats going on, system is slow, Malwarebytes came back with error 714 (0,9), so uninstalled using add/remove programs - but even that continually showed error code thru process. Have now reinstalled Malwarebytes and running scan - nothing detected on scan yet. Tried to print on Dell 924 Photo printer (which has worked fine for 5 years) and came back printing error. Tried to add/remove MS SQL 2005 program, wouldn't allow me to uninstal...this program had error messages at startup, wasn't even sure what it was or how it got on the system, so decided to uninstal after inquiring on techguy software forum..but it wouldn't let me uninstal it. I think the program was probably related to high school technology class with the boys. Anyways, here is the hyjackthis log attached. Any help would be appreciated. This was the family PC, but now the kids are gone and I'm just trying to get it cleaned up so I can use it again. Dell Dimension 4550, Windows XP SP3, AVG antivirus. Thanks!

Very inexperienced in fixes and repairs. I rely on programs to work.
Windows XP
Nortons internet security
Malwarebytes (just downloaded 2 days ago)
CC cleaner
Just got the computer back 2 days ago after contracting some kind of trojan. Was reformated.

I loged on this morning, opened outlook, opened firefox-to facebook.

A malwarebytes window flashed up, closing all programs
.
It was the quarintine box, saying that it had found 2 seperate trojan...something sign something.

I tried to highlight and delete the 2 entries. Wouldn't do anything.

X it out and turned off the computer tried to bring it back in safe mode. Husband tried 12 times to get safe mode.
Tapping F9 would only bring it to some re-boot screen.

Had to msconfig to get to safe mode.

Tried to run malwarebytes in safemode, got the same runtime error code 50003

Use windows remove program to remove malwarebytes to (in my mind) get rid of corrupt program.

Doing a search found this site and used it to download Malewarebytes

in this process also downloaded rkillls from here, it found one thing

Then Installed maLWAREBYTES, tried to run it and still got run time error 50003

Help? Be gentle. I don't even understand how to copy log files to show you.

Thank you,
Glenna

That means you are infected and you won't be able to install any malware or Anti Virus programs or update the ones you have. Please click on the link in my signature for Virus Malware Help and do those things in Safe Mode and post the results to that section of the forum and not here please.

I've read a bunch of old topics and tried following the same instructions and I'm still having problems.

Malwarebytes freezes half way through the run.  I tried in safemode I get the same thing.  I tried combofix and I keep getting run errors/extract errors.  I read a lot of topics where people were having similar problems.  The only addition to mine is my hard drive is constantly saying low disk space.  Its no where near low, If I delete one or two things totally a few gigs within 20 minutes my disk space is back to 0 kb again.

Please help! Much appreciated! .

I have tried the automatic repairs of Windows in both safe mode and regular mode. I am unable to get either Norton 360 or PC Tools Registry Mechanic to open and run. I installed Malwarebytes Anti Malware and it ran until a "Run-Time error '6' " message appeared. I have tried uninstalling Norton 360 and Registry Mechanic, to no avail. I have tried reinstalling them over the old installations. I have tried uninstalling them in safe mode, in regular mode, and with a special program to uninstall themI have e mailed both Norton and PC Tools asking for advice. Can someone give me some more ideas? Thanks

Your Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log indicates you are using an outdated database version. Please update it through the program's interface (preferable method) or manually download the definition updates and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. Then perform a new Quick Scan in normal mode and check all items found for removal. Don't forgot to reboot afterwards. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. When done, click the Logs tab and copy/paste the contents of the new report in your next reply.Your database shows 1979. Last I checked it was 1989.Mbam-rules.exe is not updated daily. Another way to get the most current database definitions if you're having problems updating, is to install MBAM on a clean computer, launch the program, update through MBAM's interface, copy the definitions (rules.ref) to a USB stick or CD and transfer that file to the infected machine. Copy rules.ref to the location indicated for your operating system. If you cannot see the folder, then you may have to Reconfigure Windows to show it.XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareVista: C:\Documents and Settings\Users\All Users\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

The only reason I listed the error code for MB is because everywhere I've read, has advised me to use Malwarebytes. I received error code 372 and I get that in safe mode as well. I have tried to download a new fresh version but, my firewall is preventing me from this. I cannot turn off my firewall. I can't run avast or avg antivirus. I don't have the restoration cds. What do I do. Is there a fix? I can get online on the infected computer but, some websites are blocked because of a certificate issue. I've made system restore points in the past but, they aren't there now.

When I tried opening Malwarebytes to run a scan on my Dell Inspiron 1400 (operating Windows XP), I get the following error:

"Run-time error '372':
Failed to load control 'vbalGrid' from vbalsgrid6.ocx. Your version of vbalsgrid6.ocx may be outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provided with your application."

and I'm not able to open the program at all.

I tried uninstalling my current version, downloading the latest version (from this site), and installing that, but I kept getting the same error message when I was both uninstalling and installing. I looked into the program folder and I see the vbalsgrid6.ocx file in there, so I'm not sure why the program won't open. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

I'm pretty sure my machine is deeply infected with malware or something, as I had to boot to Safe Mode and run ComboFix just to get it to load in normal mode.  I'm installing v1.70 of mbam and have Vista 64bit.   I deal with a lot of these infections on a daily basis, but I just can't seem to figure this one out.

There have been quite a few WebSearches found and at least 1 virus.  I've already ran ComboFix and Eset Online Scanner.  It appears everything has been removed, but I still cannot install Malwarebytes and update...

Any ideas?

Please let me know how to proceed.

I am, or rather my friend who I set this up for, is running windows 7 sp 1 on a MacBook Pro, circa 2008/9. It's been running great until he lent the system to a friend who immediately got Monkey-Pak virus into it.

I managed to clear it out, but now I can't get MalwareBytes 2.x running, it gives me some kind of c++ error. I've reinstalled all of the run times all the way back to the 2005 version, but this may be a virus that targets that program and makes it fail to run.

The program actually starts, it's just when you try to run a scan or update the database when I get this error:

Any ideas?

OK... So i've got a malware infection, fake scanner is called Security Central. The infection is KILLING ALL .exe files and not allowing them to start. I've downloaded Malwarebytes randomized exe file and even changed the name as recommended by a couple of other fixes... but still, it gets killed.

Now EVERY other potential fix i've come accross is to DOWNLOAD a file and run it. WELL... that's the trick! nothing will run! The virus is killing them at startup.

PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS!!!!

A:Malwarebytes error 0xc000001d

Hello rodb.

This is not infection related.

The issue is seen on older machines with CPUs that are currently incompatible with the latest version of MBAM and one of it's components, QT.

Malwarebytes developers have a workaround in place that will allow you to run MBAM 2.1.8.1057
You'll first need to download and install it from here:
http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam/

At the final installation screen, do not click Finish. Leave that screen open, and continue below.

Next...download the file - Malwarebytes_2.1.8_SSE2_Hotfix.exe - from this link and save it to your desktop, or other easy to access location.

https://malwarebytes.box.com/s/7yxf8...qlvtevziq3ziut

Next...double click on the file to open it and follow the prompts.

A command window will open.
You should see several messages indicating files had been copied.
Click OK on the message box and press any key to close the command window which opened.

Now, click Finish on the installation screen, and MBAM should open without issue.

Let me know if that works.

When I try to open MBAM, I get this error. Then when I tried to uninstall from both Control Panel and Program files, I could not uninstall. Control Panel route recommends to install a new version and Program files route refuses to have the file deleted citing a component of it is being used in another program. And when I tried to install a new version, I could save the download but could not open(all of a sudden Windows is asking what program to use to open). I did system restore, to no avail. I did sfc /scannow, also to no avail.

There seems to be whole lot of things wrong with my computer. Here they are:

1. First thing is that I no longer have a taskbar or start menu (though all my desktop icons are there).

2. Next is when I run Malwarebytes software I get the 372 error (vbalsgrid6.ocx error message)...I can't run it in Safe Mode as well. I tried running SuperAntiSpyware but nothing happnens there as well...it seems to startup initially, but then because it docks on the taskbar I can't activate it.

3. Also my search function is no longer working. "My Computer" icon is gone from my desktop (I have to open up the Trash folder to get into My Computer). When I try to download any other file (such as virus software, etc.) Firefox hangs and shows the "Not responding" so I have to shut it down.

By the way I run Windows XP Professional SP2. I think I might be infected with some trojan virus. I can't install HJThis since it tells me windows installer service could not be accessed.

Can someone help me out on how to go about fixing this issue? Thanks.

I have been using Malwarebytes for a number of years, however I went to run it on my wifes laptop today it was not working. So when I tried to unistall the old version I was using, and reinstall their newest version it would not allowed to do a uninstall of the older version. I am geting this message below, and not being allowed to do a uninstall of the older version:
Messages File "C:/Program Files (x86)Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware/unins000.msg" is missing. Please correct the problem or obtain a new copy of the program.

Has anyone seen this happen before, and maybe what I can do to get the old version uninstalled.

A:Malwarebytes Error Message Problem.

Two things to try.  First try downloading the current version and installing it.  If that doesn't work, try using the Revo uninstaller - it will uninstall a lot of things when nothing else will.

Good luck.

Ran malwarebytes and found 6 issues. I clicked fix issues and re booted. One of the issues was a problem going online...the bug changed settings to proxy setting. I noted a new folder on hard drive called AVENGER, and inside was one file called client.exe I deleted this folder not recognizing this folder as one I normally had on the computer. Now upon reboot I get this message:

windows cannot find c:\documents and settings\RAY\local settings\Application Data\Browser extensions\Client.exe
Make sure you typed correctly...etc.

I can close this box and computer runs fine..goes on internet, etc. No problems. I rescanned with Malwarebyte..shows no infection? How do get rid of this annoyance??

I took a picture of the error can someone please tell me what it means or how i can fix it??
BTW the picture is kinda crappy but whatever, i also get two different errors. How can i fix it thanks.

A:I ran Malwarebytes and now i get a error when i restart my computer?

Welcome to BC !

Likely something in your startup list is looking for it. In other words the missing .dll was quarantined but something was missed.

To get a clearer idea, post the scan results log from MBAM that contains the 107 items deleted/ quarantined. Look in the History tab.

I'm sure other scans will find more...well....that is the norm. I'm going to ask that this topic be moved to the Am I Infected forum.

Hi!This is my first post and I really appreciate bleeping computer team for providing such a wonderful service to people in need. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. I have Symantec Norton Antivirus 2011, Avast Free Antivirus and Comodo Firewall installed. I update my system (windows, antivirus, firewall, acrobat etc) regularly. Off late my system has been running slowly. The two antivirus catch infections every now and then (pendrives, malicious links). I run regular scans (both Norton and Avast), all of which almost never detect any infection and assure that my system is clean.Yesterday I installed Malwarebytes Anti Malware just to be sure that my computer doesn't have any infection. It was constantly (every 2-3 seconds) blocking outgoing connections from BitComet to different IPs located in China. Believing that the problem is in BitComet, I started utorrent, and the result was same for it as well, MBAM blocked outbound connections, albeit at a lower frequency. Then it blocked an inbound connection from svchost.exe. I just quit both the torrent clients and the notifications stopped. I then quit MBAB.I started Malwarebytes scan and while it was still running, it showed two infections. During the scan itself a blue screen came and my windows crashed. Ignoring it, after a while I again started the scan and the same thing happened. Now I am not sure whether whether its because of scan or infection, but during the 2 years life of my laptop, it was 2nd and 3rd time when Blue ... Read more

Malwarbytes would not run and just comes up with a box saying vd accelaerator S Grid II Control Run-time error 0 then when check that box another comes up saying Malwarebytes' Anti Malware Run-time error 440 Automation error.

I cannot get either to work and I am worried as they said on www.eurobichons site that someone had hacked in.

A:BSOD trying to scan with MalwareBytes, error code 24.

Four times today, I've seen this message pop up at the bottom of my screen, from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
Malicious Website Protection, IP, 72.21.91.29, 57216, Outbound, C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

I've just run a complete Malwarebytes scan; I'm up to date, and it reported no errors.

AVG 2015 has done a complete scan; it's also up to date and it also reported no errors.

Spyware Blaster reports it's running correctly and I'm being protected, from its point of view.

As far as I recall, I'm using whatever firewall comes with Win 8.1. I know I have never installed anything else.

In general, I'm running a Dell desktop, Win 8.1/64 bit, latest edition of the above security software; Firefox v43.0.4, which it says is up to date.

I'm a complete newbie. I have no idea what the Malwarebytes message means, or who to ask. I did send them a message like this one, but it's too soon for a reply, so I'm double-dipping by asking here also.

Thx in advance.

Tom

A:Pls decipher this error msg from Malwarebytes Anti Malware

It's a false positive and it's been resolved.

Update your MalwareBytes and it should no longer be detected.

Hello Everyone...
I found my problem in the Malwarebytes Forum Section here but it will not let me sign in,no matter how many times I 've tried ,so I thought I would try it here,I had to ask additional question anyway because their response seems to apply to the FREE version of MBAM....
I have Windows7 OS & have been using MBAM Premium for quite a while now, without a glitch.......I clicked on to check it as I do everyday or so and the permissions pop-up appeared as usual ,I approved & nothing happened.......Then after several times,I noticed it was no longer in my start up programs in WinPatrol & absent from the list of programs in Secunia PSI.....I noticed I needed to allow my automatic updates to start, I did them & then Secunia said I needed to manually update  Adobe Flash Player,it would not update ......Finally,since Adobe Flash Player always seems to be a problem anyway,I uninstalled it....then all my updates were in order.
I tried several times to re-install MBAM & I kept getting the runtime error message,,,,,I uninstalled MBAM & tried again, same thing.......I ran the Microsoft troubleshoot & it said I had update problems & recommended a systems restore....I did that & it said programs that may be affected were MBAM & Adobe Flash Player,,,,,,I did the restore,,,,no difference  & I cannot install MBAM.......I don't even know how anyway b... A:External exeption E0607363.....Runtime Error MalwareBytes

Hello newbleeping:
I'm guessing you probably meant to type E06D7363 in your title. No worries.
Please follow the instructions in the locked/pinned topic: Internal error: Expression error 'Runtime Error' / External exception E06D7363.

BTW - If you perform a MBAM Clean Removal Process 2.x using the "Free" version download, you merely need to activate MBAM2 with your license ID, and Key and MBAM2 immediately becomes a "Premium" version again.

Did you begin the registration process on the Malwarebytes forum, and did you complete the registration acknowledgement phase via email? These two forums use similar forum software, from IP.Board, but the forums are not linked together with common membership rights.

i had installed malwarebytes to rid of the adds and pop ups that I receive onto my web browser ( Google Chrome & Mozilla FireFox ) I let it scan my computer which had some effects of lagging my current in-use files. After it had finished scanning it asked me whether I wanted to delete the files or if I wanted to quarantine them, so I decided to quarantine all the files it had found a threat. It then had told me to restart my computer and after I had restarted my computer, everything was working fine but I couldn't connect to the internet due to : Unable to connect to the proxy server.
Since then I had uninstalled malwarebytes before I found the forum because I thought that were get rid of my issue. I had run my SRST scan and I also have attached my log for the malwarebytes run.
Since I am using a laptop to access the internet I am unable to do online scans on my insected computer.
I do not understand the functions on computers and such so well so I need greater assistance.
Thank you for any assistance that you give me.

Ok, Hello =)
I am not sure what to do but here goes nothing ^^
I shall start at the beginning.
I had a problem where a command prompt would appear for about half a second then disappear every 5-10 minutes. The title of this prompt was
C:DOCUME~1\Testing\LOCALS~1\Temp\TMP543.exe

What read in the box was something along the lines of
Bad command or .. .
I could never read the rest. After some basic troubleshooting and searching, I decided to post about it on computing.net. In which a helper on their site asked me to use ATF cleaner which i did, then suggested Malwarebytes, which i did as well. I posted the logs and apparently i was heavily infected. (i do not know) their helper then gave me instructions to use ComboFix, which I followed. He gave me various links and such of how to use ComboFix. . .about 11 hours into running Combofix, i restarted my computer, because it had been on the same screen for 8-9 hours now. It hadn't fixed the original problem and I had no taskbar at the bottom of the screen, it was only a sliver of it sometimes, i could not copy and paste files/text/folders. I was then instructed to uninstall ComboFix, then redo the previous instructions. I did. This time combofix went through fine, i got a log and the original problem was gone. however, the copy/paste and taskbar are still problematic. He told me to run malwarebytes again, when i attempted to it gave me this error

So I got a fake scan virus (Antivir Solutions Pro) probably a week or so ago. I rebooted in safe mode, ran a scan with AVG (the most recent free edition), and I thought that had taken care of the problem. Ever since, my computer has been acting up. When I try to run Malwarebytes, I get a run-time error 0 and 440. I have the google redirect problem as well. I read and tried to follow the BleepingComputer prep guide. It started with FireFox and IE8 redirecting clicks to somewhere different than listed URL. Updated Malwarebytes and ran scan. This corrected the redirect problem, but then on restart Malwarebytes came up with a warning about the ernel32.dll trojan. Even though I quarantine it, it comes up on every start up/restart of my computer. Hello, I became unable to run both McAfee SecurityCentre and MalwareBytes - they give the error 'This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator.'

The computer also runs very slow and I cannot turn on the windows firewall, as it is grabbed by McAfee.

Doing Live Chat with McAfee, they scanned and turned up a UqquKetug.dll file that was flagged as suspicious, but were unwilling to help without charging money for removal. I can do that as a last resort, but am not too impressed.

I tried to run in safe mode - and did a full scan with McAfee (which did start in safe mode), nothing showed up. When I tried to run Chameleon (MalwareBytes), it fell over at ntmarta.dll (?).

Anyway, I include my log files below if any kind person here can advise me. Many thanks for looking.

A:Mcafee, Malwarebytes won't run (Group Policy Error) - UqquKetug.dll to blame?

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Make sure that under Optional Scans, there is a checkmark on Addition.txt and Shortcut.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another two logs (Addition.txt and Shortcut.txt). Please attach these to your reply.

I am a long-time user of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.  Only today, I became acquainted with Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit which is a separate program from the standard, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program.  I purchased Anti-Exploit and it is now happily at work, protecting my computer right along with its big brother, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

So - what's the difference between the two programs?  I know that Anti-Exploit is constantly running in the background and, presumably, will sound off if something bad is trying to happen.  At least I think that's basically how it works.

But how is that any different from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?

What does one do that the other does not?

A:What's the Difference Between Malwarebytes and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit?

Hi pdmike
To put it simply (since I'm on my phone), Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is an Antimalware program which aims at protecting your system against known malware threats: adware, spyware, rootkits, etc. So your traditional Antimalware. All the threats detected by Malwarebytes are known threats. Which means that they exist in Malwarebytes database and have been documented by it. Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit is a mitigation program if I can call it like that. Its meant to prevent your programs (the ones supported by its free and paid versions) from being exploited by what we call Zero Day Exploits. Zero Days are in the wild exploits that haven't been patched yet and that can be used to like the name states, exploit a vulnerability in a program. Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit will therefore monitor the programs it supports and blocks any Zero-Day attempts if it detects a behavior associated with a known Zero Day method. Usually, Zero Days are meant to exploit a system in order to protect it, since they can be used to drop malware on a system. Malwarebytes Anti-Explpot protects these exploits from happening, while Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is used to protect your system against the malware that can be dropped by these exploits.
My explanation wasn't the best there is since I'm typing on my phone, but I hope you didn't understand it. Otherwise, I can go in a more in depth explanation.
Edit: gonzo from Malwarebytes gives a little explanation on the difference between the two products her... Read more

When my computer had rebooted, I ran a full scan using Mcafee and it quarantined a lot of files that seemed safe, including Windows Media Player, the explorer.exe file, and the divX video codec. When I restarted again, Windows was stuck in a log on/off loop, where it would ask me for my username and password, say it was loading my settings, and then promptly log off again leaving me at the log on prompt again.

I used something called BartPE to load an OS from a cd and I copied a new userinit.exe file into the C:\Windows\system32\ directory because whatever virus I downloaded apparently deleted the original. After I did that I could log on to Windows successfully. Now, I am experiencing the following issues:

-Windows Media Player was reset to a much earlier version (6.4)
-I can't bring up the task manager through the Run > taskmgr command, or Ctrl+Alt+Del
-Many websites are blocked, including antivirus sites, help forums, and even Microsoft.
-When I tried to install Malwarebytes to try and fix my computer I got the following error message: vbAccelerator SGrid II Control / Run-Time error '0'

There are probably more issues I haven't discovered yet. I think there are many systems files missing. I'm ... Read more

This will be my first time posting to this site. I am pretty stuck with a computer at work that I am as of yet unable to fix.The symptoms are these:The browsers (both IE and Firefox) take you to URLs when they are typed directly into the Address field, but when you click on a link within a page, you are redirected to one of many different seemingly random advertisement sites. I am not getting pop-up windows, however. The computer is not allowing a log-in script to map network drives on the computer; the same log-in script worked recently in the past, and the same network shares can be navigated to using start>run>\\path\folderAt unpredictable times, and somewhat rarely, there is a standard Windows error message pop-up saying something about a Win32 app has experienced problems and needs to close (send report, don't send, etc.). I will get the exact message if it is needed.I have used Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes, SUPERAntiSpyware, none of which have removed the infection completely, if at all. I have switched from McAfee to free avast! AV software and run a full scan and it finds no malware. I have tried all of this from both standard bootup and while in safe mode; same problems occur.I humbly request some help from your experts. Please advise how to proceed (i.e. what software logs you need first, etc). Thank you!-Aaron

Is Malwarebytes an anti-virus or should I also run an AV with it? I have CA Internet Security (free from Cablevision HS Internet) and it takes a minute to load and slows everything down. I also run the paid version of MWB and just uninstalled CA because its recent upgrade slowed booting even more. All is fairly snappy now on my OpteronX2 2.4, XPMCE. BTW, MWB is outstanding in every way.

I used the posted procedures here to download Process Explorer Download (and re-named it as directed to iexplorer.exe) and found tsc.exe in the list and deleted it. I then downloaded Malwarebytes to my desktop and that worked fine. When I go to run it however it only runs for a couple of seconds and then says "Malwarebytes was stopped for some reason if we figure it out Windows will send you a message".

I also have Norton Internet protection on my computer and at about the same time as all the other problems started occurring if I try to run Norton it just looks like it is moving but never checks any files and never closes. I have to go to Task manager to get it to stop or get it off my screen.

I am running Vista Premium and now I use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Can anyone help?

A:Malwarebytes Will Not Run - Help?

If you cannot run MBAM or complete a scan in normal mode, then try performing a Quick Scan in "safe mode". Scanning with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in safe or normal mode will work but removal functions are not as powerful in safe mode. MBAM is designed to be at full power when malware is running so safe mode is not necessary when using it. In fact, MBAM loses some effectiveness for detection & removal when used in safe mode because the program includes a special driver which does not work in safe mode. Further, scanning in safe mode prevents some types of malware from running so it may be missed during the detection process. Additionally, there are various types of malware infections which target the safeboot keyset so booting into safe mode is not always possible. For optimal removal, normal mode is recommended so it does not limit the abilities of MBAM but in some cases, there is no alternative but to do a safe mode scan. If that is the case, after completing a safe mode scan, reboot normally and try rescanning again.

I have a licensed version of MalwareBytes installed on all three of my computers. Each one is set up the exact same way. Each is scheduled to run a quick scan every 3 days and a full scan once every week as well as update daily. Unfortunately, every time that any scan runs and something is found, it is not removed. The scan runs, pops up the notepad report when finished showing what is found and what actions are taken. When I return to the MalwareBytes window, there is a popup window in the front that says "Scan Finished - All items removed" with an OK button. I click it and the entire window closes out. When I reopen the program and open the log again, it says next to each item found, no action taken.

I use the same settings on both Full Scan and Quick Scan in the scheduler:

[X] Wake computer from sleep to perform task.

[  ] Perform scheduled scan silently from system account.
[  ] Terminate program when scan completes successfully.
[X] Remove and quarantine all threats automatically.
[X] Save log file regardless of user settings.

[X] Restart the computer if required for threat removal.

What am I missing here to make the program actually remove all threats instead of taking no action against them?

If you're using the standard version then it should not be an issue. The standard version uses passive scanning so it should not interfere with normal operation of McAfee.

This post is for information for Security team members dealing with
Malwarebytes' Antimalware ( known simply as mbam ) .

While an anti virus program will not scan the hidden files of the Restore
Files which are shadow copies, i found out from a Staff Member of
Mbam that mbam will scan these files and remove the threat. Now, it should
be noted that as this will make that restore pt useless, he has recommended
that after the files are cleaned up for users to delete all the old restore
points and as files are clean, at this time, make a new restore pt to be
used if needed.

" It is by using the Full Scan option, but honestly, actually removing infections
from System Restore points is pointless as it will generally break those restore points,
rendering them useless. If an infection resides in one or more of your restore points,
the best option once you're system is otherwise clean and running normally, to create a
fresh restore point and then delete all of the older restore points,
thus removing the older restore points that contained the infection(s). "

A:Malwarebytes

Members of this forum, suggest that you dont use restore points that have been affected, . MBAM and any antivirus can not guarantee that a virus has been removed. In many cases, its not that easy. Our head security person suggests in some cases a reformat is the only sure cure.

Hi,
My son allowed Windows Antivirus Pro to run on our pc, overriding Mcafee. I've spent the last few hours trying to get rid of it before I found you. Earlier (before getting rid of any of this prog's components) I was able to run a macafee scan, in the middle of this the pc shut down. I rebooted, after this some components of Windows Antivirus had gone (some remained such as the red around icons on desktop) but thereafter if I double click an icon it won't run and the 'select which programme to open this file' menu appears. Rundll32 is missing. So, this means that even if downloading Malwarebytes antimalware and trying to run it directly from the site it simply won't. I have it installed, and the .exe file is also on my machine but of course those meet the same problem. This also affects all other programmes. And obviously I can't system restore either. Any help would be truly appreciated. The source of the problem initially, Windows Antivirus Pro is mostly gone, it's the after effects I'm now trying to solve. Please help I'm being driven slightly mad
Thanks.

I've been noticing strangeness with google search links the past day or so. Then tonight, pop-ups for "System Protection" scareware started appearing. Was unable to launch Malwarebytes to kill it.

Did some digging and found three bogus files in WINDOWS/system32 and renamed them which stopped the popups. But, still no joy running Malwarebytes, even using the renaming tricks mentioned elsewhere. And, browser is still being hijacked.

Much obliged for your help... maybe I'll learn something from this and be able to give back!

Malwarebytes does work. But it isn't something that scans as you use your computer. Its only a scanner you can run periodically. Unless of course you purchase the paid version for like $20. But yes its a good application. You may get false and true information regarding it as alot of us have our own opinions.

Best way to actually protect your system is Using Golden's advice.

Hello,

I had a paid version of MBAM on my system (Windows XP 2002 SP3), and it seemed to work fine for the year or so that it was installed. However, recently my computer would suddenly slow down to a crawl - for example, it would suddenly take 2 minutes to open a folder when I double-clicked on it. This would happen at seemingly random times, when I wasn't doing anything except reading email via a remote shell account.

I investigated the running processes on my PC and discovered that MBAM was running at 100% of CPU time. I was not doing a scan, or using any other feature of MBAM, at the time. It did run as an ongoing background process to monitor potentially malicious sites trying to gain access, but that has never hogged the CPU.

This made me suspicious, so I uninstalled MBAM, and voila - the PC now runs at a normal speed!

Has this happened to anyone else? It is possible that shortly before this started to happen, I got a popup message alerting me to an update for MBAM, but I don't remember exactly when that was or even whether it was MBAM at all (I get alerts about upgrades for various software and I wasn't keeping track of which ones happened when).

Even though I uninstalled MBAM and the PC is now running normally, is it possible that malware is still active on my PC? I'm not seeing any abnormal behavior at the moment.

And I would like to reinstall a legitimate version of MBAM, but I'm not sure how to protect myself from accessing... Read more

A:Malwarebytes seemed to take over my CPU

Hello Bastette, and Welcome -

This may be of little help, but the main problems of this type are involved with older, or smaller XP units only. It may pay to note that although similar to XP, Windows 2000 support was dropped a few years ago due to the fact that the newer technology is not correctly applied to earlier / smaller computers. I can best leave you with a current quote from Malwarebytes Forum, and a link to the forum area for you to post any MBAM specific problem -

I have been a member there for many years, and seen the need for changes as technology slowly upgraded (I had Windows 98 at the time), and the program has slowly moved from Win98 to Win2000 to XP and Vista. Now it is on to Windows 7 today with Windows 8 soon being covered -

(QUOTE)

What I think may be happening is that our database size has increased quite a bit and it is probably pushing some of these computers capabilities and thus making it obvious that there is an issue. Most of the newer Windows 7 or those running XP on high end computers may not be seeing this issue.
Inside MBAM try unchecking the Web blocker and set don't load it on reboot. Then reboot and see if it can load at normal speed. Then after the computer has booted and things have calmed down (you can look at your Task Manager and watch CPU usage and as it goes back to low usage and stable you can go to the next step) Then right click on the MBAM tray icon and enable the Web... So I didn't update my MBAM for a week. Today I decided to update it and I got a message saying the definitions is missing or corrupt and asked if I would like to download a new copy. I said yes, and it seemed to update fine. It told me that the definitions version updated from a buncha 0s to the current one. My questions are:
1) Why did it tell me the definitions are missing/corrupt?
2) Since it seemed to update correctly, does that mean the program will work fine?

A:Malwarebytes

Hello -
If you are not sure if your program is current or if it updated fully, please read This Topic from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware FAQ area, and do a Clean Reinstall of your version (paid version or free version).
Follow the Free Version directions if this is what you want.
You may lose some history of old scans, but that is nothing to worry about.

Often you may find this the easy way if you had not updated for a while.

I installed and ran the free version. It found about 11 Candy PUP stuff which it deleted. Nothing else. Good.

But, two things:

1. Just before running, Malwarebytes advised turning off my antivirus for the default 10 minutes offered by AVG Cloudcare. (I know. It came free for a year when my computer was built for me and that sevenforums describes it as rubbish and I will soon be choosing a better one.) Having told me earlier that it was compatible with AVG, Malwarebytes took about 10 minutes to complete before telling me to restart (to complete the removal of the PUPs). AVG Cloudcare re-activated itself. But 10 minutes without any antivirus running worried me. (AVG detected a MSIL Trojan Horse two days ago and neutered it.)

-- Is 10 minutes without any antivirus worrying? And what should I do next time?

2. AVG Cloudcare reported as in the attached image. I had installed Acronis, and uninstalled it about 6 weeks ago using its uninstall program. I know what a digital signature is (but not in detail). The file is Hidden. My system is 64 bit, not 32. I will never want Acronis.

--Should I simply delete the file?

Thanks.

In case you don't feel like clicking the link, I'll explain. I had this red-x on the bottom right corner of my PC, from which text would pop up every couple of minute warning me of a virus. It suggested that I install its program, Antivirus XP 2009 (or something like that). Then I started getting internet pages popping up. Well, from the link above, I downloaded Malwarebytes' Anit Malware for free. And below is my log. I'm hoping someone could help me, because I'm not if everything is copasetic or not. I'd like to know if I've gotten rid of the problem or not. Is there anything else I should do? Thanks,JasonMalwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.30Database version: 1355Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 211/4/2008 6:04:59 PMmbam-log-2008-11-04 (18-04-59).txtScan type: Quick ScanObjects scanned: 82690Time elapsed: 14 minute(s), 53 second(s)Memory Processes Infected: 0Memory Modules Infected: 2Registry Keys Infected: 25Registry Values Infected: 4Registry Data Items Infected: 3Folders Infected: 0Files Infected: 25Memory Processes Infected:(No malicious items detected)Memory Modules Infected:C:\WINDOWS\system32\rqRKCrOG.dll (Trojan.Vundo.H) -> Delete on reboot.C:\WINDOWS\system32\urqPhICR.dll (Trojan.Vundo.H) -> Delete on reboot.Registry Keys Infected:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\C... I did not renew Norton 360 but got malwarebytes.  Is this the same kind of protection.  Or what else do I need?

A:Malwarebytes

No, MalwareBytes is not a full blown anti virus app. Even with MalwareBytes you still need an anti virus app installed and resident.
